A site server is provided with information stored thereon including preferences, roles, and details related to users. A database separate from the site server is also provided. The database has information stored thereon including preferences, roles, and details relating to the users. An identity of one of the users is authenticated. A single interface is displayed which provides the user access to both the site server and the database upon authentication of the identity of the user. The user is allowed to view and change the information that is stored on the site server and the database and that is associated with the user. The single interface is tailored based on the information associated with the user.

A system, method, and software product provide a wireless communications device with a markup language based man-machine interface. The man-machine interface provides a user interface for the various telecommunications functionality of the wireless communication device, including dialing telephone numbers, answering telephone calls, creating messages, sending messages, receiving messages, establishing configuration settings, which is defined in markup language, such as HTML, and accessed through a browser program executed by the wireless communication device. The system and method described herein may identify one or more virtual desktop extensions available in a cloud computing environment and launch virtual machine instances to host the available virtual desktop extensions in the cloud. For example, a virtual desktop extension manager may receive a virtual desktop extension request from a client desktop and determine whether authentication credentials for the client desktop indicate that the client desktop has access to the requested virtual desktop extension. In response to authenticating the client desktop, the virtual desktop extension manager may then launch a virtual machine instance to host the virtual desktop extension in the cloud and provide the client desktop with information for locally controlling the virtual desktop extension remotely hosted in the cloud.

Some embodiments provide a method for initiating a video conference using a first mobile device. The method presents, during an audio call through a wireless communication network with a second device, a selectable user-interface (UI) item on the first mobile device for switching from the audio call to the video conference. The method receives a selection of the selectable UI item. The method initiates the video conference without terminating the audio call. The method terminates the audio call before allowing the first and second devices to present audio and video data exchanged through the video conference.

A computing device runs multiple activities concurrently and provides at least two modes for interacting with the activities. The user may toggle between the modes as desired. In a full-screen mode, one activity occupies substantially an entire display screen. In a windowed mode, the activity is visible within a window, and a portion of at least one other window is also visible. In the windowed mode, the user can cause windows to move, thereby changing focus from one activity to another. For example, the window having focus can be moved off the screen, to be replaced by a new window that is then given focus. An interface apparatus includes a touchscreen unit that displays a screen including a second region for presenting a toolbar having at least one User Interface (UI) element representing a specific function and a first region for activating, when the UI element is dragged from the toolbar and dropped in the first region on the touchscreen, the function represented by the UI element. The interface apparatus also includes a control unit which detects a drag and drop action of the UI element and activates, when the drag and drop action is detected, the function associated with the UI element in the form of an active function object. The interface apparatus of the present invention registers the frequently used functions with the toolbar in the form of icons such that, when an icon is dragged from the toolbar to the main window, the function represented by the icon is activated.

A system and method for simulating a wireless application for subsequent deployment on a mobile device, the mobile device configured for using the deployed application to communicate over a network with a data source through a transaction server. The method and system comprising executing the simulated application to generate at least one message configured for receipt by the simulated communication interface of the transaction server; simulating the server communication interface for receiving the message and for transmitting the asynchronous message intended for transmission to the data source via the interface; establishing a connection to the network by a development tool and transmitting the asynchronous message over the network to the data source; wherein the simulated server communication interface is used to monitor the status (i.e. a return value if any) of the transmitted asynchronous message.

A method and system for generating variable modality child windows. An application is executed utilizing a graphical user interface (GUI) which enables a parent window. One or more child windows may be available to the user during execution. The level of modality of the child window is determined during programming by the application developer. The operating system is modified to permit a variable level of modality during application execution. The developer selects variable modality for one or more of the child windows. When the child window is opened, the user is allowed to interact with the other windows based on the developers determination of level of modality. The variability may be either application or system-wide. The user is thus permitted to interface with only some of the functions on the other windows on the desktop while the child window is open.

Presented is a web-based enterprise management compliant management framework whose back end components are decoupled from the various user interfaces available for accessing the management system. In the Windows environment, the management system of the instant invention is also compliant with the Windows management instrumentation (WMI) requirements. A virtual assistant system includes a mobile device to receive an input command corresponding to a function to be performed at one or more external services, to translate the input command into a semantic atom representing the command, and to transmit the semantic atom, and an assistant server configured to receive the transmitted semantic atom, the assistant server including a plurality of plugins, each plugin corresponding to a respective one of the external services and configured to generate a proprietary language command corresponding to the received semantic atom for each external service in which the function is to be performed.

A user-activatable dashboard (also referred to as a unified interest layer) contains any number of user interface elements, referred to herein as “widgets,” for quick access by a user. In response to a command from a user, the dashboard is invoked and the widgets are shown on the screen. The user can activate the dashboard at any time, causing the dashboard to temporarily replace the existing user interface display on the user's screen. Once the dashboard has been activated, the user can interact with any or all of the widgets, and can configure the dashboard by adding, deleting, moving, or configuring individual widgets as desired. When the user wishes to return to the normal user interface he or she was working with, the user issues a command causing the dashboard to be dismissed. Once the dashboard has been dismissed, the previous user interface state is restored, allowing the user to resume normal interactions with the operating system.

The present solution includes a method for dynamically translating application prompts to internationalize software applications for a non-native language that is not specifically supported by the application. In the solution, application prompts can be identified that are associated with a software application. Each application prompt can include text written in an original language. An attempt of the software application to render one of the application prompts can be intercepted and dynamically translated. The translated text can be substituted for the original text. The application prompt can then be rendered.
