System and method for dynamic distribution of intrusion signatures

A system and method for the dynamic distribution of intrusion signatures to aid in protecting a network system from harmful activities. An analysis function includes means for identifying one or more intrusion signatures to be dynamically distributed to an intrusion detection function for monitoring. The analysis function and/or the intrusion detection function may be centralized or distributed. Monitoring may be prioritized, localized, and made operational or non-operational. The intrusion detection function may be embodied in either or both of an appliance and a network forwarding device. The analysis function may distribute the intrusion detection function in addition to the intrusion signatures. In one embodiment of the invention, the system includes an intrusion detection function and a dynamic intrusion signatures function. The intrusion detection function monitors for and reports detected intrusion signatures. The dynamic intrusion signatures function determines whether reported intrusion signatures exist in a library of signatures associated with a particular intrusion detection function. If the reported signature does not exist in the library, the library is updated. Detected intrusion signatures are reported to similarly enabled devices for library analysis and updating, if necessary. The related method includes the steps of monitoring for intrusion signatures or other triggering events, analyzing the events and updating IDS signature libraries as necessary. Optional steps of the method include verifying that reported information has been received and acted upon, and recording of the detection, reporting, and updating information in a central repository. The system and method enable dynamic distribution of IDS signatures enabling improved network IDS coverage while limiting the processing and storage requirements of network devices, particularly forwarding devices such as switches and routers that may include the IDS function. That capability enables broader coverage, faster and better tuned responses to harmful activities.

Speckle reduction in optical coherence tomography by path length encoded angular compounding

Speckle, a factor reducing image quality in optical coherence tomography (“OCT”), can limit the ability to identify cellular structures that are important for the diagnosis of a variety of diseases. Exemplary embodiments of the present invention can facilitate an implementation of an angular compounding, angular compounding by path length encoding (“ACPE”) for reducing speckle in OCT images. By averaging images obtained at different incident angles, with each image encoded by path length, ACPE maintains high-speed image acquisition and implements minimal modifications to OCT probe optics. ACPE images obtained from tissue phantoms and human skin in vivo demonstrate a qualitative improvement over traditional OCT and an increased signal-to-noise ratio (“SNR”). Accordingly, exemplary embodiments of an apparatus probe catheter and method can be provided for irradiating a sample. In particular, an interferometer may forward forwarding an electromagnetic radiation. In addition, a sample arm may receive the electromagnetic radiation, and can include an arrangement which facilitates a production of at least two radiations from the electromagnetic radiation so as to irradiate the sample. Such exemplary arrangement can be configured to delay a first radiation of the at least two radiations with respect to a second radiation of the at least two radiations.

Replacing chamber components in a vacuum environment

An apparatus and method are provided for replacing parts in a vacuum chamber without venting the vacuum. A transfer system is used to transfer a removably mounted component from a processing module that is attached to a transfer system and replacing the component with another component from a maintenance system that is connected through an isolation assembly to a transfer module. The maintenance system may include a supply of replacement parts and receive expended or otherwise serviceable items that are to be replaced. These serviceable items may include chamber component that has a tendency to degrade during processes being performed in the processing module. Typically, such items are etched or eroded away or accumulate coatings, requiring occasional removal and replacement. Focus rings, chamber shields, dark space shields, insulators, deposition baffles and adaptors are some of the items requiring periodic replacement. Such items are installed in the process module in a way that permits their removal and replacement by a transfer arm or other transfer mechanism of the transfer system or otherwise by robotic mechanisms. The processing module may be an etching, deposition, ALD, patterning, developing, metrology, thermal processing, cleaning or other module used in a vacuum process, particularly for processing of semiconductor wafers.
