Method of manufacturing devices to protect election components

Devices capable of protecting electronic components during the occurrence of a disturbance event using printed circuit board manufacturing techniques. A three (3) layer structure is formed comprising a polymer-based formulation sandwiched between two electrode layers. The devices can be manufactured in panel form providing high quantities of devices which can be removed from the panel and applied directly to the component to be protected. Desired patterns can be formed on either one of the electrode layers by photo-etch techniques thereby providing a process that can be tailored to a large number of applications.

Arrangement for laying cables in the floor area of a passenger transport aircraft

A conduit system for laying cables along the floor of a passenger cabin of an aircraft includes longitudinal and transverse cable guide elements respectively forming cable channels, and cable branch junctions at intersections of the longitudinal and transverse guide elements. Each guide element includes a lower part secured to the cabin floor, and an upper part secured (e.g. snap fitted) onto the lower part to cover the cable channel. The cable branch junction includes a lower section secured to the floor and covered by an upper section, and allows the cables to continue straight through the junction or to be deflected by 90° or by 180°. With this arrangement, a greater number and greater diameter of cables can be laid out with a minimal installation effort. The components of the system are easily adaptable to any required installation layout, while providing a continuous covered protected enclosure for the cables.

Corrugated tube fitting

A fitting for an end of a length of corrugated tubing forms a gas-tight metal-to-metal seal by rolling and folding an endmost corrugation into a axially extending annular groove in the fitting body. A ridged retainer grips the tubing corrugations above the endmost corrugation and is axially advanced into the fitting body by a nut. The cut end at the endmost corrugation of the tubing encounters the axially facing end of a tubular stub inside the fitting body and folds over itself and into the annular groove between the stub and the inside surface of the fitting body. A seal member is thus formed with a pair of substantially parallel sealing surfaces, and resides between the retainer and the outside surface of the tubular stub. The seal member forms a metal / metal seal with the tubular stub.

Methods and algorithms for cell enumeration in a low-cost cytometer

The enumeration of cells in fluids by flow cytometry is widely used across many disciplines such as assessment of leukocyte subsets in different bodily fluids or of bacterial contamination in environmental samples, food products and bodily fluids. For many applications the cost, size and complexity of the instruments prevents wider use, for example, CD4 analysis in HIV monitoring in resource-poor countries. The novel device, methods and algorithms disclosed herein largely overcome these limitations. Briefly, all cells in a biological sample are fluorescently labeled, but only the target cells are also magnetically labeled. In addition, non-magnetically labeled cells are imaged for viability in a modified slide configuration. The labeled sample, in a chamber or cuvet, is placed between two wedge-shaped magnets to selectively move the magnetically labeled cells to the observation surface of the cuvet. An LED illuminates the cells and a CCD camera captures the images of the fluorescent light emitted by the target cells. Image analysis performed with a novel algorithm provides a count of the cells on the surface that can be related to the target cell concentration of the original sample. The compact cytometer system provides a rugged, affordable and easy-to-use technique, which can be used in remote locations.

Hole saw slug removal device

The hole saw slug removal device is a device constructed to fit within a hole saw that provides for automatic ejection of waste slugs from within the hole saw. The hole saw slug removal device generally consists of two discs affixed on either end of a compression spring. The device is then inserted into the hole saw, and one disc retains the compression spring within the hole saw by locking onto the drill bit or against the inner surface of the hole saw. Upon operation of the hole saw, the spring compresses and the other disc is pushed down by the force of the sawing. After the sawing is completed, the spring decompresses, and the disc is pushed forward, automatically ejecting the waste slug that has become trapped within the hole saw. The slug removal device may lack one disc and instead be permanently affixed to a hole saw.

Fuel filter assembly

A fuel filter assembly that provides a constant level of least restricted fuel flow through the fuel filter assembly during the useful life of the filter media by utilizing the least possible amount of filter media to provide the least possible pressure differential over the filter media while also providing a constant level of fuel additive by exposing an amount proportional to the filter media required for the least possible restricted fuel flow. The fuel filter assembly utilizes a vertically upward housing that houses a filter media and a fuel additive. The fuel level slowly rises in the housing as the filter media becomes obstructed with contaminants and as the fuel additive dissolves over the life of the filter media. The top portion of the housing is made of a transparent material so that the level of fuel may be easily determined, thereby allowing for an accurate and simple assessment of the useful life of the filter media and the fuel additive. The housing also provides a multi-purpose aperture provided in the top of the housing to provide for removal and / or replacement of the fuel additive and venting and priming of the housing. The filter media and fuel additive are entirely fabricated from combustible materials so that both may be easily discarded without cost and environmental concerns.
