Apparatus for communicating information across a solid wall has one or two outside ultrasonic transducers coupled to an outside surface of the wall and connected to a carrier generator for sending an ultrasonic carrier signal into the wall and for receiving an output information signal from the wall. One or two inside ultrasonic transducers are coupled to an inside surface of the wall and one of them introduces the output information signal into the wall. When there are two inside transducers inside the wall, one receives the carrier signal and the second transmits the carrier after it is modulated by the output information from the sensor. When there is one inside transducer, the output information from the sensor is transmitted by changing the reflected or returned signal from the inside transducer. A power harvesting circuit inside the wall harvests power from the carrier signal and uses it to power the sensor.

A computer implemented method on a computer readable media is provided for determining the source of a problem in a complex system of managed components based upon symptoms. The problem source identification process is split into different activities. Explicit configuration non-specific representations of types of managed components, their problems, symptoms and the relations along which the problems or symptoms propagate are created that can be manipulated by executable computer code. A data structure is produced for determining the source of a problem by combining one or more of the representations based on information of specific instances of managed components in the system. Computer code is then executed which uses the data structure to determine the source of the problem from one or more symptoms.

A beam and power allocation method for a MIMO system transmitting multiple data streams from a transmitter having a plurality of transmit antennas to a receiver having at least two receive antennas, the transmit antennas being grouped based on feedback information from the receiver, includes obtaining covariance matrices for respective transmit antenna group, and allocating beam and power to the transmit antenna groups according to the covariance matrices of the respective antenna groups. A multi-mode internal combustion engine and method of operating the engine is provided which is capable of operating in a variety of modes based on engine operating conditions to enhance fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. The multi-mode engine include a fuel delivery system and control system for permitting the engine to operate in a diesel mode, a homogeneous charge dual fuel transition mode, a spark ignition or liquid spark ignition mode and/or a premixed charge compression ignition mode. The control system and method permits the engine operation to transfer between the various modes in an effective and efficient manner by controlling one or more fuel delivery devices or other engine components so as to move along a continuous transfer path while maintaining engine torque at a substantially constant level.

A method and apparatus are provided for the selection of sequences used for the transmission of signals from user equipments in a cellular communication system. The sequences can be selected either through planning or through pseudo-random hopping among a set of sequences. With planning, the serving Node B signals the sequence assignment for each cell, which remains invariable in time. With pseudo-random sequence hopping, which has the same pattern in all cells, the serving Node B signals the initial sequence, from a set of sequences, which can be different among cells. The signals can be transmitted either through a data channel or through a control channel. The initial sequence used in the control (or data) channel is signaled by the serving Node B. The initial sequence used in the data (or control) channel is selected to be the sequence in a set of sequences with number equal to a shift value relative to the first sequence as signaled by the serving Node B for the control (or data) channel.

A data storage system having protocol controller for converting packets between PCIE format used by a storage processor and Rapid IO format used by a packet switching network. The controller includes a PCIE end point for transferring atomic operation (DSA) requests, a data pipe section having a plurality of data pipes for passing user data; and a message engine section for passing messages among the plurality of storage processors. An acceleration path controller bypasses a DSA buffer in the absence of congestion on the network. Packets fed to the PCIE end point include an address portion having code indicating an atomic operation. An encoder converts the code from a PCIE format into the same atomic operation in SRIO format. Each one of a plurality of CPUs is adapted to perform a second DSA request during execution of a first DSA request.

A conduit system for laying cables along the floor of a passenger cabin of an aircraft includes longitudinal and transverse cable guide elements respectively forming cable channels, and cable branch junctions at intersections of the longitudinal and transverse guide elements. Each guide element includes a lower part secured to the cabin floor, and an upper part secured (e.g. snap fitted) onto the lower part to cover the cable channel. The cable branch junction includes a lower section secured to the floor and covered by an upper section, and allows the cables to continue straight through the junction or to be deflected by 90° or by 180°. With this arrangement, a greater number and greater diameter of cables can be laid out with a minimal installation effort. The components of the system are easily adaptable to any required installation layout, while providing a continuous covered protected enclosure for the cables.

The invention relates to a heat exchanger arrangement for heating of air, with a heat exchanger (8) which is integrated into a refrigerant circuit (60), configured to be able to have refrigerant flow through it and able to be impinged on by air. The heat is transferred from the refrigerant to the air. The heat exchanger (8) exhibits two components (8a, 8b) configured to be segregated from each other. The first component (8a) is configured with a condensation surface and a heat-removal surface. The second component (8b) exhibits a supercooling surface. Between the components (8a, 8b) on the refrigerant side, a refrigerant phase separation element is placed. The heat exchanger is configured as a tubular heat exchanger with tubes situated in rows, wherein the first component (8a) is configured with at least two rows and the second component (8b) with at least one row.

A modular electric vehicle system, allowing for the assembly of many different vehicle configurations using a plurality of interchangeable vehicle assembly modules, including at least two powered vehicle assembly modules in an assembled vehicle each of which has self-contained drive and power systems and controls which can be connected together by a central network bus on the vehicle. At least one of the powered vehicle assembly modules will be a steering module, with the necessary additional controls and components to steer the axle thereon and in turn steer the assembled vehicle. A fitting for an end of a length of corrugated tubing forms a gas-tight metal-to-metal seal by rolling and folding an endmost corrugation into a axially extending annular groove in the fitting body. A ridged retainer grips the tubing corrugations above the endmost corrugation and is axially advanced into the fitting body by a nut. The cut end at the endmost corrugation of the tubing encounters the axially facing end of a tubular stub inside the fitting body and folds over itself and into the annular groove between the stub and the inside surface of the fitting body. A seal member is thus formed with a pair of substantially parallel sealing surfaces, and resides between the retainer and the outside surface of the tubular stub. The seal member forms a metal/metal seal with the tubular stub.

An apparatus and method is provided for efficiently determining the source of problems in a complex system based on observable events. By splitting the problem identification process into two separate activities of (1) generating efficient codes for problem identification and (2) decoding the problems at runtime, the efficiency of the problem identification process is significantly increased. Various embodiments of the invention contemplate creating a causality matrix which relates observable symptoms to likely problems in the system, reducing the causality matrix into a minimal codebook by eliminating redundant or unnecessary information, monitoring the observable symptoms, and decoding problems by comparing the observable symptoms against the minimal codebook using various best-fit approaches. The minimal codebook also identifies those observable symptoms for which the greatest benefit will be gained if they were monitored as compared to others.

By defining a distance measure between symptoms and codes in the codebook, the invention can tolerate a loss of symptoms or spurious symptoms without failure. Changing the radius of the codebook allows the ambiguity of problem identification to be adjusted easily. The invention also allows probabilistic and temporal correlations to be monitored. Due to the degree of data reduction prior to runtime, extremely large and complex systems involving many observable events can be efficiently monitored with much smaller computing resources than would otherwise be possible.

Disclosed is a method for acquiring synchronization in a mobile communication system using an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) scheme. The method includes modeling a power delay profile in time-varying frequency selective fading channel conditions by a specific function; detecting a log probability distribution function of a timing offset and a frequency offset in consideration of a correlation between a received signal and the received multi-path signal in the time-varying frequency selective fading channel conditions having the power delay profile modeled as the specific function; and estimating a timing offset and a frequency offset which maximize the log probability distribution function of the timing offset and the frequency offset.

Methods, systems and apparatuses are provided for transmitting and receiving space-time block coded data in a wireless communications system with co-operative relays. A source node transmits RF signals representing first and second sets of data symbols in respective first and second channels (in time frequency code or any combination) of a wireless communications system, the first and second sets of data symbols being for transmission from separate antennas respectively according to a space-time block code. A relay node receives the RF signals representing the first set of data symbols in the first channel and transmits RF signals representing the first set of data symbols in the second channel. A destination node received the RF signals representing the second set of data symbols from the source node and the RF signals representing the first set of data symbols from the relay node. This enables decoding of the received RF signals representing the first and second sets of data symbols according to the space-time block code.

A host channel adapter includes a transport layer module, a link layer module, and buffer memory having memory portions configured for storage of transmit data packets output by the transport layer module for transmission by the link layer module on identified virtual lanes. The transport layer module is configured for identifying a virtual lane for each transmit data packet, and for storing the transmit data packet in the corresponding memory portion assigned to the corresponding identified virtual lane. Hence, the transmit data packets output by the transport layer module are stored in the memory portions based on their respective identified virtual lanes, where each memory portion stores the transmit data packets for the corresponding identified virtual lane. The link layer module retrieves the transmit data packets from a selected memory portion corresponding to a currently-serviced virtual lane based on a prescribed virtual lane arbitration. A computer implemented method and apparatus for determining the source of at least one observed event occurring among a plurality of types of components is disclosed. The method, operable on a computer system, utilizes a data structure produced for determining the source of a problem by mapping a plurality of observed events and a plurality of known causing events, wherein the mapping represents a correlation between the observed events and the causing events, determines a distance measure based on mapped correlation values and determines at least one causing event based on a distance measure within a known tolerance above a minimum distance measure.

Equipment generates a discovery message containing its address/node identification (ID) and/or other information. Adjacent equipment (e.g., physically adjacent equipment) monitors control overhead bytes (section trace (J0) bytes, Data Communication Channel (DCC) control overhead, General Communication Channel (GCC) control overhead, etc.) for this message, but does not generate a corresponding response message as called for in the standards/implementation agreements. Rather, it records the address/node ID and/or other information in order to identify its neighbor, and uses an alternative mechanism to either record the adjacency separately (e.g., at a Network Management System (NMS) in order to populate or verify its topology database) or communicate an out-of-band control message to the neighbor (e.g., using the received address/node ID as the destination address for the out-of-band control message, which carries its own address/node ID and link information). Such automated population and/or verification of node and/or NMS topology databases improves the speed and accuracy of network resource allocation.

In a system comprising a plurality of components, characteristic data is stored on programmable read-only-memories (PROMS) on each component. The PROMs are coupled together via a simple bus, and data is retrieved from the PROMs using the bus. The collection of data from the PROMs provides the component characteristic data, and a portion of the component characteristic data is stored in one or more persistent media devices in the system, creating a last known good copy. The persistent storage device could be any device that does not lose data in the event of a loss of power.

A dual pumping element fluid system for an engine or other system which reduces the driving power consumption by unloading one pumping element through the use of recirculation when a fluid pressure target value is achieved. A cross-over port fluid system prevents cavitation of the unloaded pump. A pressure-activated flow control valve mechanism is utilized to open and close the passageways from the secondary pump.
