3518 results about "First light" patented technology

In astronomy, first light is the first use of a telescope (or, in general, a new instrument) to take an astronomical image after it has been constructed. This is often not the first viewing using the telescope; optical tests will probably have been performed in daylight to adjust the components.

Grating-based sensor combining label-free binding detection and fluorescence amplification and readout system for sensor

A grating-based sensor is disclosed that has a grating structure constructed and designed for both evanescent resonance (ER) fluorescence detection and label-free detection applications. Some embodiments are disclosed which are optimized for ER detection in an air mode, in which the sample is dry. Other embodiments are optimized for ER detection in liquid mode, in which the sample is suspended in liquid medium such as water. One and two-dimensional gratings are also disclosed, including gratings characterized by unit cells with central posts, central holes, and two-level, two-dimensional gratings. A readout system for such sensors is also disclosed. One embodiment includes a first light source optimized for collecting label-free detection data, a second light source optimized for collecting ER fluorescence amplification data, and at least one detector. In one embodiment, the detector is an imaging system and includes a CCD camera for collecting both ER and label-free data. In other embodiments, the at least one detector takes the form of a spectrometer for collection of label-free data and a photomultiplier for collecting ER data. In other embodiments, a single light source such as a tunable laser or broad band light source is used.

Light guide, illumination system, backlighting system and display device

The invention relates to a light guide (10) for illuminating a light output window (120) of an illumination system (100), the illumination system, a backlighting system (100) and a display device (200). The light guide comprises a first light guide part (10A) comprising a first light guide extension (70A) extending from a first edge wall (40A) of the first light guide part (10A), and comprises a second light guide part (10B) comprising a second light guide extension (70B) extending from a second edge wall (40B) of the second light guide part (10B), the first light guide extension (70A) being configured for positioning a first light input window (80A) at a side of the second light guide part (10β) facing a rear wall (30B) of the second light guide part (10B), the second light guide extension (70B) being configured for positioning a second light input window (80B) at a side of the first light guide part (10A) facing the rear wall (30A) of the first light guide part. An effect of the light guide according to the invention is that due to the configuration of the first light guide extension and the second light guide extension, the first light input window of the first light guide part is arranged behind the second light guide part, and the second light input window of the second light guide part is arranged behind the first light guide part.

Illumination device and liquid crystal display device

A backlight (illumination device; 2) of the present invention includes: multiple light sources (5); multiple light guide plates (7, 17, . . . ) for causing surface emission of light from the light sources (5); and a diffusing plate (8) for diffusing light from the light guide plates (7, 17, . . . ), the diffusing plate (8) being provided so as to be separate from and face the light guide plates (7, 17, . . . ). Each of the light guide plates (7, 17, . . . ) includes: a light-emitting section (7b) having a light-emitting surface (7a); and a light guide section (7c) for guiding, to the light-emitting section (7b), light from the light sources (5), a light-emitting section (17b) of the first light guide plate (17) being provided above a light guide section (7c) of the second light guide plate (7) adjacent to the first light guide plate (17). A light amount adjusting section (11) for reducing the amount of light incident on it is provided so as to be separate from the diffusing plate (8) and so that the orthogonal projection of the light amount adjusting section (11) onto the light-emitting region covers the boundary between any adjacent light guide plates (7, 17, . . . ). This allows for production of a tandem-type illumination device having further improved luminance uniformity.

Large-angle secondary light-distribution lens of LED streetlamp and manufacturing method thereof

The invention provides a large-angle secondary light-distribution lens of LED streetlamp and a manufacturing method thereof. The secondary light-distribution lens comprises a first light-distribution lens and a second light-distribution lens, wherein the first light-distribution lens is a semi-spherical surface or an elliptical non-spherical surface, while the second light-distribution lens is a peanut shell-shaped asymmetrical curved surface and is formed by a main curved surface and a glare elimination curved surface with two ends jointed; according to the actual streetlamp illumination demand, a matching method of controlling network node normal vectors through the curved surface is utilized to obtain the normal vectors of each point on the two curved surfaces; and accordance relationship of an included angle between corresponding incidence rays in x and y directions and a vertical optical axis and an included angle between emergent rays passing through the two curved surface is combined to obtain the grid line profiles of the two surfaces, so as to form a whole free curved surface. The obtained secondary light-distribution lens can be used for distributing an LED beam into an even rectangular facula which is distributed in 0-+/-71degrees along horizontal X direction and in 0-+/-30 degrees along Y direction, and the horizontal glare is effectively eliminated to accord with the road surface illumination demand.

Vehicular headlamp unit

A vehicular headlamp unit using a light-emitting element as a light source includes a projection lens arranged on an optical axis that extends in a vehicle longitudinal direction, and first and second light source units arranged rearward of the projection lens. The first light source unit includes a first light-emitting element arranged in a vicinity of the optical axis further rearward than a rear-side focal point of the projection lens, a first reflector arranged so as to cover the first light-emitting element from above and structured so as to reflect light from the first light-emitting element forward toward the optical axis, and a first mirror component having an upward-facing reflective surface that extends rearward generally along the optical axis from a vicinity of the rear-side focal point so as to reflect a portion of the reflected light from the first reflector upward. The second light source unit includes a second mirror component including a downward-facing reflective surface that extends diagonally downward toward a lamp rear side from a front end edge of the upward-facing reflective surface, a second light-emitting element arranged on the second mirror component facing forward and diagonally downward below the optical axis, a second reflector structured so as to reflect light from the second light-emitting element upward and generally converge such light at a region in a vicinity of the rear-side focal point on the downward-facing reflective surface, and a third reflector arranged downward of the second light-emitting element which reflects light from the second light-emitting element forward so that such light passes through a lower space of the projection lens.
