AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing battery pack configurations fail to effectively protect battery cells from side impact loads and maintain cooling performance during side impacts, particularly in frame vehicles.

Method used

A battery pack design for frame vehicles that includes a side EA material protecting the battery pack in the vehicle width direction, with a lower case having a flow path and step portion to direct impact loads away from the battery cells, and a cooler and heat conductive materials positioned outside the battery cells to enhance cooling.

Benefits of technology

The design improves cooling performance and protects battery cells from side impact loads by redirecting collision forces to more rigid end plates and increasing heat transfer efficiency.

Abstract

To protect a battery cell from a collision load at a side projection while improving a cooling performance of the battery cell.SOLUTION: A battery pack is mounted to a frame vehicle to which a side EA material is provided to a locker, and an outside of a vehicle width direction is protected by the side EA material. A battery module includes: a flow channel formation part in which a lamination body is laminated to a vehicle width direction, and a lower case forms a flow channel circulating water to a flooding inspection part; and a step part that is bent downward from a bottom plate part where the battery cell is mounted, to the flow channel formation part. In the step part, a part bent downward is arranged on an outer side in a vehicle width direction from the end part of the lamination body and on a lower side of an end plate, and a cooling device and a thermal conductive material are arranged on a lower side of the end part of the lamination body.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
