Abstract
Description
[Technical field]
[0001] The present invention relates to a cell stack assembly including a plurality of stacked battery cells and a battery pack including the cell stack assembly. More specifically, the present invention is characterized in that a partition wall for partitioning the cell stack assembly is removed from the battery pack and a support block structure capable of replacing the partition wall is used to enhance utilization of the internal space of the battery pack.
[0002] This application claims the benefit of priority based on Korean Patent Application No. 10-2022-0053655 dated April 29, 2022, and all contents disclosed in the documents of that Korean patent application are incorporated herein by reference. [Background technology]
[0003] Currently, types of secondary batteries that are widely used include lithium ion batteries, lithium polymer batteries, nickel cadmium batteries, nickel metal hydride batteries, and nickel zinc batteries. The operating voltage of such a unit secondary battery cell, i.e., a unit battery cell, is about 2.5V to 4.5V. Therefore, when a higher output voltage is required, a battery pack may be configured by connecting a plurality of battery cells in series. Also, a battery pack may be configured by connecting a number of battery cells in parallel according to the charge / discharge capacity required for the battery pack. Therefore, the number of battery cells included in the battery pack may be variously set according to the required output voltage or charge / discharge capacity.
[0004] Meanwhile, when constructing a battery pack by connecting a plurality of battery cells in series / parallel, a common method is to first construct a battery module including at least one battery cell, and then use this at least one battery module to add other components to construct the battery pack.
[0005] A conventional battery module generally includes at least one cell stack including battery cells, and a box-shaped metal housing structure, i.e., a module frame, that houses the at least one cell stack. This conventional battery module structure has problems in that the weight and volume of the module frame itself reduce the energy density of the entire battery pack, and increase the weight of the entire battery pack.
[0006] Due to the above-mentioned problems, a conventional method was attempted in which the module frame configuration that encases and protects the cell stack was eliminated, and instead, a method was attempted in which a bus bar frame and end plates were attached to the front and rear faces, respectively, of the cell stack on which the electrode leads are formed, to store and arrange the cell stack in a battery pack.
[0007] Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a cell stack assembly including a cell stack, a bus bar frame, and an end plate, excluding the module frame. However, the cell stack assembly having the structure shown in Fig. 1 has problems in that it is difficult to handle and not easy to fix inside a battery pack.
[0008] Therefore, there is a need to find a way to provide a cell stack assembly that is lightweight, thereby reducing the overall weight and thereby increasing the energy density, and that is easy to fix and handle, and a battery pack including the cell stack assembly. Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]
[0009] Therefore, an object of the present invention is to increase the space utilization rate inside a battery pack by eliminating the conventional module frame.
[0010] Another object of the present invention is to provide a structure that can support a cell stack in which a plurality of battery cells are stacked without a module frame, and can couple and fix the cell stack to a battery pack.
[0011] Another object of the present invention is to provide a structure capable of connecting and fixing a plurality of cell stacks together.
[0012] Other objects and advantages of the present invention can be understood from the following description and will become more apparent from the embodiments of the present invention. Also, it will be easily understood that the objects and advantages of the present invention can be realized by the means and combinations thereof as set forth in the claims. [Means for solving the problem]

[0014] The fastening grooves may be formed in a plurality of locations spaced apart from each other at predetermined intervals along a longitudinal direction of the support block.
[0015] The support blocks on both sides of the cell stack may include fastening grooves at positions facing each other.
[0016] The cell stack may further include a cover coupled to the support block to cover at least one of the open upper and lower portions of the cell stack, and the cover may include a through hole corresponding to the fastening groove of the support block in an area where the cover is in contact with and coupled to the support block.
[0017] The support block and the cover may be screwed together by a bolt that passes through the through hole and is inserted into the fastening groove.
[0018] According to the present invention, there is provided a battery pack including the cell stack assembly and a pack case in which a plurality of the cell stack assemblies are arranged, wherein the cell stack assembly is arranged such that at least one side of a support block of the cell stack assembly is in contact with one side of the support block of an adjacent cell stack assembly.
[0019] The pack case includes a bottom hole formed through the bottom corresponding to the position of a fastening groove formed at the bottom of the cell stack assembly, and the cell stack assembly can be coupled to the pack case by bolts inserted into the fastening groove and bottom hole.
[0020] The pack case further includes a fixing member that is coupled to a support block of each of the cell stack assemblies so as to fix the at least two cell stack assemblies arranged in the pack case, the fixing member including fixing holes formed therethrough at positions corresponding to the fastening grooves of each of the support blocks, and the fixing member can be screwed to the support block by bolts inserted into the fixing holes and the fastening grooves corresponding to the fixing holes.
[0021] The fixing member may be coupled at both ends to two adjacent support blocks to fix the pair of cell stack assemblies.
[0022] The fixing member may be formed to extend along a longitudinal direction of two adjacent support blocks, and the fixing holes may be formed spaced apart along the longitudinal direction of the fixing member to correspond to the fastening grooves of each support block.
[0023] The fixing member may be extended in a width direction of the support block to fix a plurality of cell stack assemblies, and may be coupled to at least four support blocks.
[0024] The fixing member may extend across a cell stack included in the cell stack assembly and support an upper portion of the cell stack.
