[0010] Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described in more detail with reference to the drawings. Although specific embodiments of the present invention are shown in the drawings, the present invention can be implemented in various forms and should not be construed as being limited to the embodiments described herein. Rather, these embodiments are provided for a more thorough and complete understanding of the present invention. It should be understood that the drawings and embodiments of the present invention are for illustrative purposes only and are not used to limit the protection scope of the present invention.

[0011] In the description of the embodiments of the present invention, the term "including" and its similar terms are open-ended inclusion of "including but not limited to". The term "based on" should be understood as "based at least in part on". The term "one embodiment" or "the embodiment" should be understood as "at least one embodiment". The term "some embodiments" should be understood as "at least some embodiments". There may be other explicit and implicit definitions hereinafter.

[0012] As described above, in the process of using a social application, a user may expect to be timely notified of content published by publishers with a higher social intimacy with the user within the social application. In particular, in the case of content with some predetermined time limits, these contents can only be accessed for a limited period after being published.

[0013] Currently, after usually opening the application, a user can only view content published by publishers with a higher social intimacy with the user or only receive recommended prompts for these contents. In such cases, the user is highly likely to miss some newly published content of interest.

[0014] Some other support means associated with social applications, such as mobile desktop applets or plugins, can also provide users with prompts regarding recommended published content. However, the recommended content is often motivated by specific commercial purposes and is not something that expects users to pay meticulous attention.

[0015] According to each embodiment of the present invention, a video recommendation solution is proposed. For example, an electronic device can determine video content that can only be accessed within one or more predetermined periods and select at least one candidate video content to be recommended therefrom. The electronic device can use a widget to present a thumbnail of the candidate video content to the user. When the user clicks on the thumbnail, the user can directly enter the application and view the video content corresponding to the thumbnail.

[0016] According to the implementation of the present invention, by using widgets, it is possible to present to the user the content published by content publishers who have a higher social intimacy with the user within the application. As a result, on the one hand, the user can timely know that these content publishers have published the corresponding content, and on the other hand, without entering the application, the user can quickly view the corresponding published content by clicking on the widget presentation.

[0017] [Exemplary Environment] First, referring to FIG. 1, a schematic diagram of an exemplary environment 100 in which an exemplary implementation form according to the present invention can be implemented is schematically shown.

[0018] FIG. 1 shows a schematic diagram of an exemplary environment 100 in which an embodiment of the present invention can be implemented. In the exemplary environment 100, an application 120 is installed on an electronic device 110. The user 102 can interact with the application 120 via the electronic device 110 and / or a device connected to the electronic device 110. The application 120 may be a content sharing application that can provide the user 102 with services related to the consumption of multimedia content, including browsing, commenting, transferring, creating (e.g., photographing and / or editing), and publishing multimedia content. In this specification, "multimedia content" may be various forms of content including videos, audios, images, image collections, texts, and the like.

[0019] In the environment 100 of FIG. 1, when the application 120 is active, the electronic device 110 can present a page 140 of the application 120 to the user 102. The page 140 may be various pages that the application 120 can provide, such as a presentation page for multimedia content, a content creation page, a content editing page, a message page, a personal page, a mall page, and the like.

[0020] In some embodiments, the electronic device 110 communicates with the server 130 to implement the provision of services for the application 120. The electronic device 110 may be any type of mobile terminal, fixed terminal, or portable terminal, including a mobile phone, desktop computer, laptop computer, notebook computer, netbook computer, tablet computer, media computer, multimedia tablet, personal communication system (PCS) device, personal navigation device, personal digital assistant (PDA), audio / video player, digital camera / video camera, positioning device, television receiver, radio receiver, e-book device, game device, or any combination of the foregoing, including accessories and peripherals of these devices or any combination thereof. In some embodiments, the electronic device 110 can also support any type of interface for the user (such as a "wearable" circuit). The server 130 is various types of computing systems / servers that can provide computing functions, including but not limited to mainframes, edge computing nodes, computing devices in cloud environments, etc.

[0021] It should be understood that the structure and function of the environment 100 are described only for illustrative purposes and do not imply any limitation on the scope of the present invention.

[0022] [Video Recommendation Process] FIG. 2 shows a flowchart of a process 200 for video recommendation according to some embodiments of the present invention. The process 200 may be implemented on the electronic device 110. For ease of discussion, the process 200 will be described with reference to the environment 100 of FIG. 1.

[0023] As shown in FIG. 2, in the box 210, the electronic device 110 selects at least one candidate video to be recommended from among one or more videos of a predetermined type published by the application 120. The one or more videos of the predetermined type are accessible within a predetermined period.

[0024] Currently, the application 120 can support publishers to publish various different types of videos. For example, some video contents have a predetermined access period limit. That is, when a predetermined period has elapsed since these video contents were published, the video contents become invisible and users other than the publisher cannot access them. It should be understood that the predetermined period may be set by the publisher or may be preset by the application 120. For example, when creating video content, the user can first be guided to select the type of video content to be published, and the access period limit corresponding to the selected video content type can be presented to the user.

[0025] In some embodiments, the one or more videos of a predetermined type are those published by a publisher having a higher social intimacy with the user 102 within the application 120. For example, these publishers may be users who mutually follow the user 102 within the application 120. These publishers may also be users selected by the user 102 as users having a higher social intimacy within the application 120.

[0026] In some embodiments, the respective publication times of the one or more videos can be used to select at least one candidate video to be recommended. For example, the video that was most recently published among the one or more videos can be selected as the candidate video. In this way, the user can timely know what kind of video content of a predetermined type has been published by a publisher having a higher social intimacy.

[0027] In some other implementations, the remaining accessible time of each of the one or more videos can be utilized to select at least one candidate video to be recommended. For example, by selecting a video with approaching accessible time among the one or more videos as a candidate video, it is possible to prevent the user from missing the last time when these videos can be viewed.

[0028] In box 220, the electronic device 110 presents a corresponding image of each of the at least one candidate video by utilizing a widget associated with the application 120.

[0029] Generally speaking, a widget is code that can be executed on any hypertext markup language - based web page. Currently, widgets are generally regarded as an important means for customizing the home screen of the electronic device 110. Widgets can be presented in the form of videos, images, maps, news, or mini - games, etc., and can intuitively display the data and functions of an application, and the user can access the corresponding application by using the widget.

[0030] The term "widget" used in the present invention can include a program or a plugin installed on the interface of the electronic device 110. For example, it can be a mobile desktop applet, etc. Schematic diagrams of exemplary widgets according to embodiments of the present invention are shown in FIGS. 3A - 3C.

[0031] As shown in FIG. 3A, the widget 311 on the interface 310 of the electronic device 110 can present an image corresponding to one candidate video to be recommended. Optionally or additionally, while presenting the image, the remaining accessible time corresponding to the candidate video of the image can be further presented on the widget 311. For example, by presenting an indication of "10 hours remaining" for the image 312, it indicates that the candidate video corresponding to the image 312 has a remaining accessible time of 10 hours. By presenting the remaining accessible time, the user can clearly know the remaining time for viewing the public content, and can avoid missing the public content that the user is interested in.

[0032] In some embodiments, images corresponding to each of a plurality of candidate videos can be further presented on the widget. As shown in FIG. 3B, the widget 321 on the interface 320 of the electronic device 110 can present images 322-324 corresponding to different candidate videos respectively.

[0033] Similarly, optionally or additionally, the remaining accessible time corresponding to the candidate video of the image and / or the presentation of the public time of the candidate video can be further presented on the widget 321. For example, by presenting an indication of "10 hours remaining" for the image 322, it indicates that the candidate video for the image 322 has a remaining accessible time of 10 hours. For the image 324, by presenting an indication of "to be published 1 minute ago", the public time of the candidate video corresponding to the image 324 is indicated. In this way, since the recommendation of a plurality of candidate videos can be provided to the user based on the different public states of the candidate videos, the video recommendation function of the application is more diverse and personalized, and the customer experience is further improved.

[0034] In some embodiments, the image of the candidate video presented on the widget may be an image extracted from any frame of the candidate video. For example, the first frame of the candidate video can be selected as the image to be presented on the widget. The frame in the extracted candidate video can be scaled or cropped to generate an image to be presented on the widget.

[0035] Optionally or additionally, when presenting images corresponding to a plurality of candidate videos on the widget, as shown in FIG. 3B, these images may be presented so as to partially overlap each other. It should be understood that these images may be displayed separately from each other. Optionally or additionally, the sizes of the images corresponding to different candidate videos may be designed to be the same or different. Optionally or additionally, the arrangement and form in which the images are presented may be implemented based on the selection of the user 102.

[0036] Optionally or additionally, the electronic device 110 may simultaneously present a plurality of widgets associated with the application 120. These widgets may be presented in different sizes. As shown in FIG. 3C, both the widget 331 and the widget 333 of the interface 330 of the electronic device 110 may be associated with the application 120. The images 332 and 334 presented on the widget 331 and the widget 333 respectively may be the same. The widget 331 and the widget 333 both have different presentation sizes on the interface 330. Optionally or additionally, the size at which the widget is presented may be implemented based on the selection of the user 102.

[0037] The different presentation forms of the widgets and the images on the widgets as described above can further improve the degree of personalization of the user interface.

[0038] Referring back to FIG. 2, in box 230, when a selection for one of the presented images is detected, in box 240, the electronic device 110 presents a candidate video corresponding to the selected image as a recommended video in application 120.

[0039] For example, when the image 312 in FIG. 3A is selected by the user, as shown in FIG. 4, the candidate video corresponding to the selected image 312 is presented as the recommended video 410 on page 400 of the application 120 of the electronic device 110.

[0040] In some embodiments, the electronic device 110 can receive a video switching command from the user 102 when the current recommended video 410 is being presented, for example, when the playback of the current recommended video 410 ends. When the video switching command is received, the electronic device 110 can present another video different from the current recommended video 410 to the user 102. The other video is determined from a plurality of videos that can be accessed only within a predetermined type, i.e., a predetermined period.

[0041] In response to the received video switching command, the other video to be switched may be published by the same publisher as the current recommended video 410, or may be published by a publisher different from the current recommended video 410. The video switching command input by the user may be input, for example, by the user's slide gesture on the page for presenting the current recommended video 410. For example, as shown in FIGS. 5A - 5D respectively, the user 102 may input a video switching command by performing a left slide 501, a right slide 502, an upward slide 503, or a downward slide 504 on page 400 of the current recommended video 410 presented in application 120.

[0042] For example, when user 120 performs an upward slide 503 or a downward slide 504, the publisher of another video presented after the switch may be the same as the publisher of the currently recommended video 410. When user 120 performs a leftward slide 501 or a rightward slide 502, the publisher of another video presented after the switch may be different from the publisher of the currently recommended video 410. For example, when user 120 performs an upward slide 503, as shown in FIG. 5E, the publisher of another video 511 presented on the application page 510 after the switch may be the same as the publisher of the currently recommended video 410. When user 120 performs a leftward slide 501, as shown in FIG. 5F, the publisher of another video 521 presented on the application page 520 after the switch may be different from the publisher of the currently recommended video 410.

[0043] Similarly, it should be understood that when user 120 performs an upward slide 503 or a downward slide 504, the publisher of another video presented after the switch may be different from the publisher of the currently recommended video 410. When user 120 performs a leftward slide 501 or a rightward slide 502, the publisher of another video presented after the switch may be the same as the publisher of the currently recommended video 410.

[0044] In this way, when the user enters the application and starts browsing the recommended video, other predetermined types of candidate videos can be browsed together, providing the user with an easy way to browse videos of a predetermined type.

[0045] In some embodiments, the widget associated with application 120 can provide guidance to user 102 for taking a video of a predetermined type. Optionally or additionally, when it is determined that there are no candidate videos of a predetermined type to be recommended within application 120 by electronic device 110, the widget can provide guidance to user 102 for taking a video of this type. Similarly, the predetermined type of video may be a video that is accessible only within a predetermined period of time. As shown in FIG. 6A, on interface 610 of electronic device 110, widget 611 can present a guidance icon 612 for shooting.

[0046] Optionally or additionally, electronic device 110 can present multiple widgets simultaneously. These widgets may be presented in different sizes and may all guide the user to take a video of a predetermined type. As shown in FIG. 6B, widgets 621 and 623 on interface 620 of electronic device 110 may each present icons 622 and 624 for guiding shooting. Widgets 621 and 623 have different sizes on interface 620. Optionally or additionally, the size at which the widget is presented may also be implemented based on the selection of user 102.

[0047] Similarly, it should be understood that when there are multiple widgets on the interface, for example, when there are two widgets, one widget may present an icon for guiding shooting, and another widget may present an image corresponding to a recommended video. In this way, different application functions can be provided to the user, and the widget function can be enhanced.

[0048] When user 102 selects an icon for guiding the shooting presented on the widget, as shown in FIG. 7, an interface 700 for executing a shooting operation within application 120 on electronic device 110 may be presented. When user 102 selects the shooting button 710, shooting of a video of a predetermined type may be started.

[0049] In some embodiments, user 102 can obtain guidance for adding a widget to electronic device 110 within application 120. The guidance may include, for example, a prompt presenting steps of a home screen interface for adding the widget to electronic device 110 to user 102. The guidance may be presented, for example, after receiving a command to add the widget input by user 102. For example, on a predetermined page of application 120, a button for triggering a widget addition operation may be presented, and when user 102 selects the button, guidance can be presented to user 102.

[0050] As shown in FIG. 8A, for example, on message page 810 of application 120 of electronic device 110, a button 811 for triggering a widget addition operation is presented. When user 102 selects the button 811, a prompt for guiding the user to add a widget can be presented.

[0051] As shown in FIGS. 8B to 8D, when user 102 selects button 811, presentation 821 in FIG. 8B can be presented. The presentation 821 instructs, for example, the first step in the process of adding a widget. After user 102 obtains the information of the presented first step, by selecting button 822 in presentation 821, the presentation can be switched to the next presentation 823. The presentation 823 can instruct, for example, the second step in the process of adding a widget. Similarly, after user 102 obtains the information of the presented second step, by selecting button 824 in presentation 823, the presentation can be switched to the next presentation 825. The presentation 825 can instruct, for example, the second step in the process of adding a widget. After user 102 obtains the information of the presented third step, by selecting button 826 in presentation 825, the guidance process for adding the widget presented to user 102 to electronic device 110 can be terminated.

[0052] For example, presentations 821, 823, and 825 may be presented to user 102 in the form of, for example, a pop-up window. The presentation of the operation steps presented in presentations 821, 823, and 825 may be presented in the form of text and / or animation. Also, by repeatedly providing the guidance process to user 102, user 102 can be made to accurately execute the widget addition operation.

[0053] It should be understood that FIGS. 8B to 8D show only an exemplary embodiment presenting a guidance process for adding a widget to electronic device 110. Adding a widget to electronic device 110 may include more or fewer steps. Accordingly, the number of presented guidance presentations may also be increased or decreased.

[0054] In some embodiments, after receiving an instruction to add a widget entered by user 102 when the system environment of electronic device 110 meets the requirements, application 120 may directly add the widget to electronic device 110.

[0055] Referring again to FIG. 8A, when user 102 selects button 811, by presenting a prompt, it is possible to ask the user whether to add a widget to electronic device 110, such as the home screen of electronic device 110. For example, as shown in FIG. 8E, when user 102 selects button 811, by presenting prompt 827 on page 810, it is possible to ask user 102 "Do you want to add the widget to the home screen?" When it is determined by user 102 to add the widget to the home screen, for example, by selecting button 828 in prompt 827, application 120 can add the widget onto the home screen of electronic device 110. The interface of electronic device 110 where the widget is added is shown in FIGS. 3A - 3C and FIGS. 6A and 6B, for example, and thus the description will not be repeated here.

[0056] By providing guidance to the user for adding a widget or directly completing the addition of the widget according to the user instruction, excellent assistance regarding the use of the application function can be provided to the user, and the user experience can be further improved.

[0057] According to the solution of the present invention, it is possible to present to the user, using a widget, content published by a content publisher having a higher social intimacy with the user within the application. Thereby, on the one hand, the user can timely know that these content publishers have published the corresponding content, and on the other hand, without entering the application, the user can quickly view the corresponding published content by clicking on the presentation of the widget.

[0058] [Exemplary Apparatuses and Devices] Embodiments of the present invention further provide corresponding apparatuses for implementing the methods or processes described above.
