[0024] Broadly speaking, the concepts described herein may provide a unique opportunity to augment physical articles, such as footwear or clothing articles, personal accessories, and wearables, by displaying digital images, NFTs, digital collectibles, or other digital identities and artifacts on the article itself. The upper 32 is depicted as having a closed, clamshell-like toe and heel configuration for encasing a human foot.
