Abstract

The present invention provides vending machines and beverage dispensers that enable consumers to select and dispense products without requiring them to physically touch the vending machines or beverage dispensers. [Solution] The vending machine includes a housing that defines a product storage compartment for storing products. The vending machine housing includes a dispensing outlet and a front portion having a transparent panel configured to allow consumers to see the products in the product storage compartment. Rows of products are arranged within the product storage compartment. Proximity sensors are located within the product storage compartment and correspond to the rows of products. The proximity sensors are configured to detect a consumer's hand within a predetermined detection distance from the proximity sensor, and when a consumer's hand is detected within the predetermined detection distance of the proximity sensor, a product from the row of products is selected. The vending machine includes a dispensing mechanism configured to transport the selected product to the dispensing outlet.
