A system and method for registering the location of items when they are placed and using a mobile device to guide the user to that location when the user picks up the items.

Abstract

The luggage management system comprises an area having a support surface used to hold luggage; a computing system including at least one processor configured to process luggage label data associated with luggage to identify luggage placed on the surface, retrieve luggage information from luggage labels associated with luggage, register the location where the identified luggage is placed on the surface, and notify the recipient of the luggage that the luggage is in the area awaiting retrieval; and a mobile device placed within the area. The mobile device includes a wireless communication transceiver and a processor configured to cause the mobile device to retrieve label information by scanning luggage labels.
