Alignment of multiple series of intravascular images

Abstract

This disclosure provides a method for processing intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) images from different runs through a vessel to generate a mapping between frames of each IVUS run and a graphical user interface (GUI) that graphically presents the IVUS runs in relation to each other. In some examples, a vascular reference is identified in the frame of each IVUS run, and one or both runs are offset in time, distance, and / or angle so that the frames are aligned to the identified vascular reference. Furthermore, this disclosure provides a method for angularly aligning intravascular images to the viewpoint of external images of the vessel.
