Abstract

A method for feeding small adult dogs, comprising supplying one serving of dry kibble to a small adult dog weighing up to approximately 11 kg, wherein approximately 20% to 100% of the individual dry kibble pieces in one serving are donut-shaped and have an average inner hole diameter of approximately 3 mm to approximately 8 mm, an average diameter of approximately 1.3 cm to approximately 2.0 cm, and an average thickness of approximately 3 mm to approximately 6 mm.

Claims

1. A method for feeding a small adult dog, comprising supplying one serving of dry kibble to a small adult dog weighing up to approximately 11 kg, wherein approximately 20% to 100% of the individual dry kibble pieces in one serving are donut-shaped and have an average inner hole diameter of approximately 3 mm to approximately 8 mm, an average diameter of approximately 1.3 cm to approximately 2.0 cm, and an average thickness of approximately 3 mm to approximately 6 mm.

2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the average diameter is approximately 1.3 cm to approximately 1.6 cm.

3. The method according to claim 1, wherein the average diameter is approximately 1.6 cm to approximately 2.0 cm.

4. The method according to claim 1, wherein each of the dry kibble pieces in one serving has an average diameter of about 1.3 cm to about 1.6 cm and an average thickness of about 3 mm to about 5 mm.

5. The method according to claim 1, wherein the small adult dog exhibits, on average, a decrease in feeding rate and an increase in feeding duration compared to the feeding rate of a comparative solid, round dry kibble of the same volume having a diameter of approximately 1 cm or less.

The method according to claim 1, wherein the small adult dog exhibits, on average, a decrease in the frequency of labored swallowing and an increase in the duration of chewing during feeding, compared to when it is fed a comparative solid, round dry kibble of the same volume having a diameter of approximately 1 cm or less.

7. The method according to claim 1, wherein the dry kibble has a water content of about 4 wt% to about 10 wt%.
