Surgical knife with a retractable blade

Abstract

A surgical knife for ear surgery includes a handle containing a control mechanism and a shaft coupled to the distal end of the handle and extending distally therefrom. A rod is positioned within the shaft, including a distal end and a proximal end opposite the distal end, the proximal end of which is coupled to the control mechanism, and the rod is configured to translate along the longitudinal axis of the shaft when the control mechanism is activated. The surgical knife further includes a straight knife coupled to the distal end of the rod, the translation of which causes the straight knife to extend or retract from the distal end of the shaft. The surgical knife further includes a round knife attached to the distal end of the shaft.
