Description

[Technical field]

[0001] This application claims the benefit of priority based on Korean Patent Application No. 10-2021-0145041 filed on October 27, 2021, and all contents disclosed in the documents of that Korean patent application are incorporated herein by reference.

[0002] The present invention relates to a pouch forming device, in which a second stripper uniformly and strongly pressurizes a pouch film around a cup portion forming position of the pouch film, thereby minimizing the occurrence of wrinkles around the cup portion and preventing cracks and breaks that may occur due to wrinkles, thereby improving forming quality, achieving space efficiency of the cup portion, and maximizing energy density. [Background technology]

[0003] A secondary battery is a battery that can be charged and discharged, unlike a primary battery that cannot be charged, and the types of secondary batteries include nickel-cadmium batteries, nickel-metal hydride batteries, lithium-ion batteries, and lithium-ion polymer batteries. These secondary batteries are used not only in small products such as digital cameras, notebook computers, mobile phones, PDAs (registered trademarks), and E-bikes, but also in large products that require high output such as electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles, power storage devices that store surplus generated power and renewable energy, and backup power storage devices.

[0004] These secondary batteries are classified into pouch type and can type depending on the material of the battery case that houses the electrode assembly. The pouch type houses the electrode assembly in a pouch made of a flexible polymer material that has no uniform shape, while the can type houses the electrode assembly in a case made of a material such as metal or plastic that has a uniform shape.

[0005] The pouch, which is the case of the pouch-type secondary battery, is manufactured by pressing a flexible pouch film to form a cup portion. After the cup portion is formed, an electrode assembly is placed in the receiving space of the cup portion and the sides are sealed to manufacture the secondary battery.

[0006] The drawing during press processing is performed by inserting a pouch film into a forming device such as a press device, applying pressure to the pouch film with a punch, and stretching the pouch film. A pouch forming device can be divided into a stripper area that fixes the pouch, and a punch area. Ideally, the pouch is fixed in the stripper area by applying uniform surface pressure, and then the pouch film is formed by applying pressure to it with a punch. However, the flatness of the pressing surface in the stripper area is not uniform, or surface pressure is applied through a wide pressing surface, so the pouch film cannot be held tightly around the cup where the pouch film stretches.

[0007] Fig. 1 is a diagram showing the appearance of wrinkles or cracks in a conventional pouch. Fig. 2 is a diagram showing the appearance of wrinkles concentrated in the cup part of a conventional pouch. In other words, as shown in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2, the inflow of the pouch film occurs unevenly around the cup part, which causes the problem of wrinkles (W) occurring around the pouch forming part as shown in Fig. 1 (a) and (b).

[0008] In particular, referring to Fig. 2, wrinkles are formed intensively at the corners of the cup part of the pouch where the pouch film is stretched intensively, and such wrinkles may cause cracks (C) due to impact during transportation (see Fig. 1(c)), which may lead to problems in battery performance and safety. Therefore, there is a demand for the development of a pouch forming device to solve the above-mentioned problems. Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]

FIG. 9 is a perspective view showing the first stripper and the stripper back plate in a transparent manner among the partial configuration of the pouch forming apparatus according to the first embodiment of the present invention.

[0033] 3 to 5, a pouch forming apparatus 10 according to the present invention includes a die plate 100, a first stripper 200, a punch unit 300, and a second stripper 400. The die plate 100 includes a die plate 100, a first stripper 200, a punch unit 300, and a second stripper 400.

[0034] First, the die plate 100 is formed in a flat plate shape so that a pouch film is placed on the upper part, and a cup portion forming hole 100a is formed in a shape penetrating the upper and lower surfaces. That is, in a state where the pouch film is placed on the upper part, a punch unit 300 (described later) passes through the cup portion forming hole 100a to form the cup portion of the pouch. Therefore, the die plate 100 serves to support or fix the pouch film from below. Meanwhile, the die plate 100 is formed in a flat plate shape so that a uniform surface pressure is applied to the pouch film placed on the die plate 100, and can support or fix the pouch film.

[0035] The first stripper 200 presses and fixes the pouch film from the upper part of the die plate 100, and a punch hole 200a is formed in a shape penetrating the upper and lower surfaces at a position corresponding to the cup portion forming hole 100a. That is, the pouch film may be supported by the die plate 100 from the lower part and pressed and fixed by the first stripper 200 from the upper part. Meanwhile, the pouch film is not necessarily limited to being placed on the upper part of the die plate 100 and the first stripper 200 presses and fixes the pouch film from the upper part of the die plate 100, and conversely, the pouch film may be placed on the upper part of the first stripper 200 and the die plate 100 presses and fixes the pouch film from the upper part of the first stripper 200.

[0036] The punch unit 300 forms a pouch film by being drawn into and drawn out of the punch hole 200a of the first stripper 200 and the cup portion forming hole 100a of the die plate 100. In this case, the punch unit 300 can form a cup portion by first being drawn into the punch hole 200a of the first stripper 200, and then being drawn into the cup portion forming hole 100a of the die plate 100 to pressurize the pouch film, and when the formation of the cup portion is completed, the punch unit 300 can be drawn out of the cup portion forming hole 100a of the die plate 100, and then being drawn out of the punch hole 200a of the first stripper 200.

[0037] The second stripper 400 is provided to protrude from the lower surface of the first stripper 200 and is provided along the periphery of the punch hole 200a to pressurize and fix the pouch film. As a result, the second stripper 400 applies uniform and strong pressure to the pouch film around the cup portion forming position of the pouch film, thereby minimizing the occurrence of wrinkles around the cup portion and preventing cracks and breaks that may occur due to wrinkles, thereby improving the forming quality, achieving space efficiency of the cup portion, and maximizing energy density.

[0038] Each component of the pouch forming apparatus 10 according to the present invention will be described in more detail below.

[0039] 5 and 7, the second stripper 400 can be formed in a ring shape having an inner peripheral edge and an outer peripheral edge, and the inner peripheral edge can be formed larger than the peripheral edge of the punch hole 200a. Since the second stripper 400 is provided along the peripheral edge of the punch hole 200a, if the inner peripheral edge is formed smaller than the peripheral edge of the punch hole 200a, the second stripper 400 will interfere with the punch part 300 passing through the punch hole 200a of the first stripper 200, and therefore the second stripper 400 may move or the punch part 300 may not punch properly, which may reduce the molding quality of the cup part of the pouch. Therefore, by forming the inner peripheral edge of the second stripper 400 larger than the peripheral edge of the punch hole 200a, the second stripper 400 does not interfere with the punch part 300, and the pouch film can be uniformly and effectively pressed.

[0040] The second stripper 400 may have a friction coating layer formed on a surface facing the die plate 100. Since a pouch film is placed on the die plate 100, the surface of the second stripper 400 facing the die plate 100 may be understood to be the same as the pressing surface where the second stripper 400 presses the pouch film. As a result of the friction coating layer being formed on the surface of the second stripper 400 facing the die plate 100, the friction force between the second stripper 400 and the pouch film is increased, and as a result, the second stripper 400 can press the pouch film more uniformly and strongly, thereby suppressing the occurrence of wrinkles around the cup portion forming position.

[0041] The friction coating layer may include a material capable of increasing the frictional force between the second stripper 400 and the pouch film, and may preferably include silicone. However, it is not necessarily limited to silicone, and any material that is not likely to react physicochemically with the pouch film and has a higher friction coefficient than the second stripper 400 may be selected. Meanwhile, in addition to including a specific material to have a high friction coefficient, the friction coefficient may be increased by diversifying the shape and roughness of the surface.

[0042] 5 and 6, the first stripper 200 may have an insertion groove 200b formed along the periphery of the punch hole 200a and indented from the bottom to the top. The indented shape from the bottom to the top may be understood as the indented shape from one surface of the first stripper 200 having a thickness to the other surface. Here, the one surface may be the surface of the first stripper 200 on which the second stripper 400 is provided, and the other surface may be the surface opposite to the one surface of the first stripper 200. As described above, the insertion groove 200b is formed in the first stripper 200, so that the second stripper 400 can be pulled into or pulled out from the inside of the insertion groove 200b, as described below, and thus the pressure of the second stripper 400 can be appropriately adjusted.

[0043] Continuing to refer to FIGS. 6 to 8, the insertion groove 200b may be formed to have a horizontal cross section having a shape corresponding to the horizontal cross section of the second stripper 400, and the second stripper 400 may be provided to protrude from the lower surface of the first stripper 200 and be provided to be retracted or drawn into the insertion groove 200b so as to be movable in the up and down direction. The insertion groove 200b provides a space in which the second stripper 400 can be retracted or drawn into the first stripper 200, and for this reason, is formed to have a shape corresponding to the horizontal cross section of the second stripper 400. Here, the insertion groove 200b having a shape corresponding to the horizontal cross section of the second stripper 400 may mean that the size of the insertion groove 200b has the same shape as the horizontal cross section of the second stripper 400, but is wider by the offset size. If the width of the insertion groove 200b is the same as the width of the second stripper 400, the second stripper 400 will not be inserted into the insertion groove 200b, or even if it is inserted, it will be interfered with by the insertion groove 200b and will not move smoothly, making it impossible to apply an appropriate pressure. Conversely, if the width of the insertion groove 200b is excessively larger than the width of the second stripper 400, the second stripper 400 will vibrate in the lateral direction while being inserted into the insertion groove 200b and pressing the pouch film, making it impossible to apply an appropriate pressure. Therefore, it is preferable that the offset has a suitable width that allows the second stripper 400 to be easily inserted into the insertion groove 200b and does not vibrate inside the insertion groove 200b after insertion. In practice, the offset can be determined experimentally according to the width of the second stripper 400 to be manufactured.

[0044] In this manner, the second stripper 400 is provided in a protruding state from the lower surface of the first stripper 200, and can be partially inserted into the insertion groove 200b as the second stripper 400 pressurizes the pouch film, thereby appropriately pressurizing the pouch film to prevent the occurrence of wrinkles, and improving the molding quality by preventing the shape of the second stripper 400 from remaining around the cup portion molding position.

[0045] Referring to FIG. 8, the pouch forming apparatus 10 according to the present invention may further include an upper plate 700 and a lower plate 800. The upper plate 700 may be provided on the upper part of the first stripper 200, and the lower plate 800 may be provided on the lower part of the die plate 100. In this case, the upper plate 700 and the lower plate 800 may be connected to each other by a connecting member 900 having a length in the up-down direction at the edge. That is, the upper plate 700 may be provided on the upper end of the pouch forming apparatus 10, and the punch unit 300 and a stripper back plate 500 described later may be connected and fixed to the upper plate 700. The lower plate 800 may be provided on the lower end of the pouch forming apparatus 10, and may play a role in supporting the entire pouch forming apparatus 10 from below.

[0046] Also, the pouch forming apparatus 10 may further include a stripper back plate 500 and a die back plate 600. The stripper back plate 500 is provided between the first stripper 200 and the upper plate 700, and may fix at least one of the first stripper 200 or the second stripper 400. The die back plate 600 is provided between the lower plate 800 and the die plate 100, and may support the die plate 100 from below. In this manner, the first stripper 200, the second stripper 400, and the die plate 100 directly contact the pouch film to pressurize the pouch film, and the stripper back plate 500 and the die back plate 600 are provided on the upper or lower part of the above-mentioned stripper and die plate 100, and allow the first and second strippers and the die plate 100 to be stably fixed to the pouch forming apparatus 10.

[0047] The manner in which the second stripper 400 is fixed will now be described in detail with reference to FIGS.

[0048] First, as shown in Fig. 6, the first stripper 200 may have a through hole 200c formed along the periphery of the punch hole 200a and penetrating the upper and lower surfaces. In this case, the second stripper 400 may be fixed to the stripper back plate 500 by a fixing member 410 penetrating the through hole 200c, as shown in Figs. 8 and 9. Although the second stripper 400 is provided under the first stripper 200 or inside the insertion groove 200b of the first stripper 200, the second stripper 400 is not directly coupled to the first stripper 200 but is fixed to the stripper back plate 500, and thus can move in the vertical direction independently of the first stripper 200, thereby allowing an appropriate pressure to be applied to the pouch film. In this case, multiple through holes 200c may be formed, and multiple fixing members 410 may also be formed, but the number of fixing members 410 may be the same as or less than the number of through holes 200c, and the second stripper 400 can be fixed.

[0049] The fixing member 410 may be a stopper type whose length varies and is fixed without varying below a preset length or above a preset length. Here, being fixed without varying above a preset length may mean that the second stripper 400 is fixed so as to protrude from the lower surface of the first stripper 200, but does not vary beyond a length at which the second stripper 400 protrudes and is fixed to an extent that the pouch film cannot be placed between the die plate 100 and the first stripper 200. Also, being fixed without varying below a preset length may mean that the second stripper 400 is inserted into the insertion groove 200b formed in the first stripper 200, but is completely inserted into the insertion groove 200b, and does not vary below a length at which the second stripper 400 does not protrude when viewed from the side.

[0050] Meanwhile, the second stripper 400 may adjust the pressure applied to the pouch film by the pressure adjusting member 420 provided through the through hole 200c in addition to the fixing member 410. The pressure adjusting member 420 is provided separately from the fixing member 410 and applies a force in the opposite direction to the direction in which the second stripper 400 is inserted into the insertion groove 200b of the first stripper 200, thereby providing a pressure so that the second stripper 400 can press the pouch film. Therefore, the pressure adjusting member 420 may continuously increase the pressure applied by the second stripper 400 as the second stripper 400 is inserted into the insertion groove 200b. The pressure adjusting member 420 may be provided so that one side is in contact with the second stripper 400 and the other side is coupled to the stripper back plate 500. A plurality of pressure adjusting members 420 may also be provided, so that the pressure can be adjusted according to the position.

[0051] The pressure adjusting member 420 may include a spring having elasticity in the length direction. Since the elastic force of a spring increases as it is compressed, when a spring is selected as the pressure adjusting member 420, the pressure of the second stripper 400 may continuously increase as the second stripper 400 is inserted into the insertion groove 200b. Meanwhile, the pressure adjusting member 420 may further include a spring fixing member for fixing the other side of the spring to the stripper back plate 500 in addition to the spring.

[0052] Next, the punch unit 300 may include a punch body 320 and a punch 310 provided at the lower part of the punch body 320 and having a pressing surface for pressing the pouch film. The punch body 320 may be configured to fix the punch unit 300 to the pouch forming apparatus 10, and the punch 310 having the pressing surface is configured to directly press the pouch film and can correspond to the shape and size of the cup portion to be formed.

[0053] On the other hand, when punch body 320 is fixed and does not move in pouch forming apparatus 10 and moves up and down with the pouch film interposed between die plate 100 and first stripper 200, a cup portion can be formed in the pouch film as punch body 320 and punch 310 of punch unit 300 pass through punch hole 200a and cup portion forming hole 100a. However, conversely, die plate 100 and first stripper 200 may be fixed with the pouch film interposed, and punch unit 300 may move to form a cup portion.

[0054] Second embodiment The second embodiment of the present invention is different from the first embodiment in that one side of the pressure adjusting member 420 of the first embodiment is provided to contact the second stripper 400 and the other side is provided to be coupled to the upper plate 700. The second embodiment will be described focusing on the differences while omitting the contents common to the first embodiment as much as possible. In other words, if any contents not described in the second embodiment are necessary, they will obviously be regarded as contents of the first embodiment.

[0055] FIG. 10 is a side view showing, in a transparent state, a first stripper and a stripper back plate of a pouch forming apparatus according to a second embodiment of the present invention.

[0056] The pouch forming apparatus 10 according to the second embodiment of the present invention includes a die plate 100, a first stripper 200, a punch unit 300, and a second stripper 400. In addition, the pouch forming apparatus 10 may further include a stripper back plate 500, a die back plate 600, an upper plate 700, and a lower plate 800.

[0057] The first stripper 200 is formed along the periphery of the punch hole 200a and has a through hole 200c penetrating the upper and lower surfaces, and the second stripper 400 can be fixed to the stripper back plate 500 by a fixing member 410 provided to penetrate the through hole 200c.

[0058] In addition, the second stripper 400 can adjust the pressure applied to the pouch film by a pressure adjustment member 420 provided through the through hole 200c. In this case, the pressure adjustment member 420 of the pouch forming apparatus 10 according to the second embodiment of the present invention can be provided so that one side is in contact with the second stripper 400 and the other side is connected to the upper plate 700.

[0059] As such, by coupling the other side of the pressure adjusting member 420 to the upper plate 700, a more stable pressure can be provided compared to when the pressure adjusting member 420 is coupled to the stripper back plate 500, and when the pressure adjusting member 420 includes a spring, the length of the spring can be made longer, thereby providing a wider variety of pressures. Meanwhile, the pressure adjusting member 420 may further include a spring fixing member for fixing the other side of the spring to the stripper back plate 500 in addition to the spring.
