[0022] Other systems, methods, configurations, and advantages of the present invention will become apparent to one of ordinary skill in the art upon examination of the following drawings and detailed description. The components illustrated in the drawings are not necessarily to scale, and emphasis may have been placed on better illustrating the key features of the present invention.

[0023] The systems, devices and methods described herein relate to a bottle that can blend or mix liquids and contain the blended or mixed liquids. Conventional bottles can only contain liquids. Conventionally, a separate blender must be used to make beverages that contain solid ingredients that are blended into a liquid or semi-liquid form. Using a separate blender is inefficient because of the extra cleaning and preparation associated with the separate blender, as well as the need to store the separate blender, which takes up storage space in the kitchen or home. Other bottles have wire stirrers to mix powders and liquids, but the fragile nature of the wire stirrers makes them extremely inefficient. Instead of blending the powders and liquids, the powders clump together in the wire stirrer. Additionally, these wire stirrers cannot blend solid ingredients such as fruit or ice.

[0024] The self-blending bottle described herein has a mixer within the bottle that can blend solid ingredients into liquid or semi-liquid forms. The mixer can better mix powders into liquids compared to conventional bottles. The self-blending bottle can be powered by a motor or by a user manually turning a crank.

[0025] The self-blending bottle allows one to create a perfectly blended beverage anywhere, including at the gym, in the office, on an outdoor trail, or in a vehicle, where electricity and a blender may not be readily available.

[0026] 1 shows an exploded view of a motorized self-blend ("motorized" or "electric") bottle 100. The self-blend bottle 100 includes a bottle body 102, a bottle lid 108, a mouthpiece lid 110, a power supply 116, and a base 118.

[0027] The bottle body 102 may be constructed from aluminum, stainless steel, or any other material that thermally insulates the contents of the bottle 100. The bottle body 102 may be double-walled to improve the insulating performance of the bottle 100. The bottle body 102 may have a top opening that is attached to the bottle lid 108 and a bottom opening that is attached to the base 118.

[0028] Between the bottle body 102 and the bottle lid 108 are an attachment ring 104 and a sealing ring 106. The sealing ring 106 is configured to form a seal between the bottle body 102 and the bottle lid 108 and may be made of silicone, rubber, or any other sealing material. The attachment ring 104 is configured to connect the bottle 100 to an attachment device, such as a carabiner 112.

[0029] The bottle lid 108 includes a mouthpiece lid 110 configured to cover and protect the mouthpiece of the bottle 100. The mouthpiece lid 110 may be fixedly attached to the bottle lid 108 such that the mouthpiece lid 110 is not lost when not engaged with the bottle lid 108. The mouthpiece lid 110 may be attached to the bottle lid 108 by a hinge, cord, or any other device that allows the mouthpiece lid 110 to move away from the mouthpiece in a first position and cover the mouthpiece in a second position.

[0030] A power supply 116 is connected to the mixer 114 (shown as an auger). The power supply 116 powers the mixer 114 with electrical power to mix or blend the contents of the bottle 100 into a liquid or semi-liquid state.

[0031] The base 118 includes a bottom ring 120 made of a material having a relatively high coefficient of friction (eg, rubber) to prevent the bottle 100 from sliding along surfaces.

[0032] The mouthpiece lid portion 110 is located above the bottle lid portion 108, which is located above the sealing ring 106, which is located above the mounting ring 104, which is located above the bottle body 102, which is located above the power supply 116, which is located above the base 118, which is located above the bottom ring 120.

[0033] The bottle lid 108 , the sealing ring 106 , the mounting ring 104 , the bottle body 102 , the power supply 116 , the base 118 , and the bottom ring 120 are all formed in a generally circular or annular shape around the central axis of the bottle 100 .

[0034] 2 shows an on / off switch (power switch) 122 and a charging port 124 of the bottle 100. The power switch 122 may be activated by pressing or holding. In some embodiments, the power switch 122 may be activated by voice or in response to a motion or gesture by a user. The charging port 124 may connect to a power source via a Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable. In some embodiments, the charging port 124 is waterproof. In some embodiments, the charging port 124 is configured to have a cover attached to protect the charging port 124 and prevent debris buildup.

[0035] The power switch 122 and charging port 124 may be located on the sidewall of the base 118 such that they are perpendicular to the bottom ring 120 and the top and bottom surfaces of the bottle 100.

[0036] 3A shows an exploded view of the top of the bottle 100. The bottle body 102 forms a cavity 149 for containing and mixing liquids. The bottle lid 108 covers the top opening of the bottle body 102 and includes a mouthpiece 126 and a gripping surface 128. The mouthpiece 126 is where the contents of the bottle 100 can exit the bottle 100. The gripping surface 128 may be configured to provide greater grip for a user to twist the bottle lid 108 to remove it from the bottle body 102. The gripping surface 128 may be made of rubber, silicone, or any other material with relatively high friction. The gripping surface 128 may surround the circumference of the bottle lid 108. The gripping surface 128 may be patterned to increase the area that comes into contact with a user's hand when gripping and rotating the bottle lid 108 to remove it from the bottle body 102.

[0037] The sealing ring 106 may provide a seal between the bottle lid 108 and the bottle body 102 to prevent liquid leakage when the bottle 100 is tilted and when the contents of the bottle 100 exit the bottle 100 through the mouthpiece 126.

[0038] To secure the bottle lid 108 to the bottle body 102, the bottle body 102 may have a threaded portion 130 and the bottle lid 108 may have a corresponding threaded portion.

[0039] 3B shows an exploded view of the top of the bottle 100 according to another embodiment. As described herein, the bottle lid 108 covers the cavity 149 at the top opening of the bottle body 102 and includes a mouthpiece 126 and a gripping surface 128. A seal ring similar to the seal ring 106 shown in FIG. 3A may also be provided.

[0040] The mouthpiece lid 110 may be connected to a mouthpiece cap 132. The mouthpiece cap 132 may cover a mouthpiece lid opening 145 and also the mouthpiece 126, which fits through the mouthpiece lid opening 145 when the mouthpiece lid 110 is closed. The mouthpiece 126 has a mouthpiece opening 143 where the contents of the bottle 100 can exit the bottle 100. The mouthpiece opening 143 may be covered by a filter 142. The filter 142 may have a filter grade that corresponds to the size of the opening in the filter 142. The filter 142 allows liquids and objects smaller than the filter grade to exit the bottle 100 while preventing objects larger than the filter grade (e.g., chunks of fruit, ice, or other solid objects) from exiting the bottle 100.

[0041] The filter 142 may be attached to the mouthpiece 126 by adhesive, an interference fit, a connector, or may be integrally formed with the mouthpiece 126 in a mold. A mouthpiece sealing ring 139 (having an opening 147 corresponding to the other openings 145 and 143) may prevent liquid from leaking from the bottle 100 through the mouthpiece 126 when the mouthpiece lid 110 is in the closed position. The mouthpiece sealing ring 139 may be part of the mouthpiece cap 132, may be attached to the mouthpiece 126, or may be attached to the mouthpiece lid 110 around the mouthpiece lid opening 145.

[0042] The bottle body 102 may have threads 130 and the bottle lid 108 may have corresponding threads to secure the bottle lid 108 to the bottle body 102. The mouthpiece 126 may have threads 141 and the mouthpiece cap 132 may have corresponding threads to secure the mouthpiece lid 110 to the mouthpiece 126 when the mouthpiece lid 110 is in the closed position.

[0043] The attachment loop 134 may be integrally formed with the bottle lid 108 and may function similarly to the attachment ring 104. In some embodiments, the attachment loop 134 is part of the attachment ring, and the attachment ring may rotate around the circumference of the bottle lid 108 via a groove located around the circumference of the bottle lid 108.

[0044] FIG. 3C illustrates the bottle lid 108 of FIG. 3B in an unexploded state, with the mouthpiece lid 110 in a closed position covering the mouthpiece 126.

[0045] Figure 4 shows mouthpiece lid 110 with mouthpiece cap 132. Mouthpiece cap 132 may be screwed to secure mouthpiece lid 110 to mouthpiece 126, thereby securing mouthpiece lid 110 to bottle lid 108. Also shown in Figure 4 is attachment ring 104 with attachment loop 134 for attaching an attachment device such as carabiner 112.

[0046] The mouthpiece lid 110 may have a peg 191 configured to fit into a slot 193 in the bottle lid 108, allowing the mouthpiece lid 110 to pivot from a closed position to an open position and any position therebetween about an axis defined by the peg 191.

[0047] The mouthpiece lid 110 may pivot about an axis perpendicular to the central axis of the bottle. The pivot axis of the mouthpiece lid 110 may be defined by a peg 191.

[0048] 5 shows the attachment loop 134 of the attachment ring 104. The attachment loop 134 has an opening 136 through which the attachment device can be inserted.

[0049] 6 shows the mouthpiece with a filter 142, a top cap 138, and a sealing ring 140. The sealing ring 140 prevents leaks between the bottle lid 108 and the top cap 138. The filter 142, as described herein, prevents any chunks larger than the opening in the filter 142 from leaving the bottle 100.

[0050] 7 shows the mouthpiece filter separated from the mouthpiece 126. The top cap 138, sealing ring 140, and filter 142 are removable. The filter 142 can be removed for cleaning or to be replaced with another filter 142. Multiple filters 142 with different sized filtering openings may be provided and used. The top cap 138 and sealing ring 140 may be attached to the bottle lid 108 by threading or by being pressed on via an interference fit.

[0051] 8 shows the power supply 116. The power supply 116 includes a frame 150, a printed circuit board 144, a motor 146, and a battery 148. Pressing the power switch 122 may activate the printed circuit board 144 to power the motor 146 via the battery 148 to rotate the mixer 114. The printed circuit board may be configured to power the mixer 114 for a predetermined period of time. Pressing the power switch 122 before the period of time may stop the mixer 114. The speed at which the motor 146 rotates and the length of time the mixer 114 operates may be user adjustable. The battery 148 may be any rechargeable battery. The battery 148 may be charged by connection to a power grid (e.g., an electrical outlet) or by connection to another battery or power source (e.g., a solar charger).

[0052] In some embodiments, the printed circuit board 144 directs the motor 146 to periodically blend or mix the contents of the bottle 100 to maintain a liquid or semi-liquid consistency within the bottle 100. The printed circuit board 144 may vary the torque provided by the motor 146 depending on the contents of the bottle 100. For example, a greater torque may be provided when ice is present and a lesser torque may be provided when powder and liquid are present. The contents of the bottle may be identified automatically or may be specified by a user. In some embodiments, the printed circuit board 144 includes a processor configured to execute instructions stored in a non-transitory memory. In some embodiments, the printed circuit board 144 includes a set of hardware control circuits to implement the functions described herein.

In some embodiments, the mixer 114 may have an opening at a first end of a shaft of the mixer 114, the opening having threads around an inner periphery of the opening that are configured to receive corresponding threads around the shaft of the motor 146. This allows the mixer 114 (shown as an auger) to be removed and replaced with another mixer of a different configuration (e.g., a whisk).

[0054] The battery 148 and printed circuit board 144 may be disposed along the length of the bottle 100 (i.e., perpendicular to the bottom and top of the bottle), thereby conserving space within the power supply 116 and allowing the power supply 116 to have a compact design.

[0055] 9 shows an exploded view of the power supply 116. The printed circuit board 144, motor 146, and battery 148 may be mounted to a frame 150, which may be secured to the bottle body 102 by a base 118. In some embodiments, the power supply 116 is assembled separately and then fixedly attached to the base 118 by connectors (e.g., screws) or adhesives prior to attaching the power supply 116 to the bottle body 102.

[0056] The power supply 116 (i.e., the frame 150 of the power supply 116) is attached to the lower end of the bottle body 102 and covers the cavity 149 at the bottom opening of the bottle body. A thread and a seal ring may be provided between the frame 150 and the bottle body 102 to prevent liquid in the bottle body 102 from leaking out of the cavity 149 through the bottom opening of the bottle body 102.

[0057] In some embodiments, one or more sensors may be provided that are configured to detect when the power supply 116 and / or the base 118 are detached from the bottle body 102. When the one or more sensors detect that the power supply 116 and / or the base 118 are detached from the bottle body 102, they may automatically shut off power to the motor to prevent the mixer from operating and causing injury to the user. The one or more sensors may be located near the base 118 and / or the power supply 116, or near the bottom end of the bottle body 102.

[0058] In some embodiments, one or more sensors may be provided that are configured to detect when the bottle lid is removed from the bottle body 102. When the one or more sensors detect that the bottle lid is removed from the bottle body 102, they may automatically cut power to the motor to prevent the mixer from operating and injuring the user. For example, fresh fruit may be stored within the container 170 and added to the bottle 100 along with ice and liquid to create a fruit drink. The container 170 may be insulated to ensure the freshness of the ingredients contained therein.

[0076] 19 shows a container 170. A top surface 175 of the lid 166 prevents the bottom of the base 118 from contacting the contents contained within the body 168.

[0077] 20 and 21 show side views of a bottle 100 according to various embodiments described herein.

[0078] 22 shows the bottle lid 108 separated from the bottle body 102. In some embodiments, the bottle body 102 has a sloped portion 176 at the top end where the bottle body 102 connects to the bottle lid 108. The sloped portion 176 is sloped toward the central axis of the bottle 100. The bottle 100 may be easily gripped in the tilted position, and this sloped configuration may aid in separating the bottle lid 108 from the bottle body 102 by providing a larger surface area for a user to grip.

[0079] FIG. 23 shows a top perspective view of bottle 100 with carabiner 112 attached.

[0080] FIG. 24 shows a top perspective view of the bottle 100 with the paracord 178 attached.

[0081] 25 shows a bottom perspective view of the bottle 100, showing the bottom ring 120. The bottom ring 120 can be made of any material that can increase friction between the bottom of the bottle and a flat surface. For example, the bottom ring 120 can be made of rubber or silicone. The bottom ring 120 inhibits the bottle 100 from sliding along a flat surface.

[0082] 26A shows a manual (or "hand crank") bottle 200. The manual bottle 200 is powered by a user turning a crank to a motor that powers a mixer 114 to mix and blend the contents of the bottle.

[0083] The bottle 200 includes a bottle lid portion 208 similar to the bottle lid portion 108, and a bottle body 202 similar to the bottle body 102. The bottle lid portion 208 is attached to the top of the bottle body 202.

[0084] Figure 26B shows a top perspective view of the manual bottle 200. The manual bottle 200 includes a cap 210 that is attached to a bottle lid 208 and covers a mouthpiece, and a crank 216 that is attached to the bottle lid 208. As shown in Figures 26A and 26B, the crank 216 is in a retracted position, but can be moved to a deployed position for mixing, as described further below.

[0085] Bottle 200 may also include an attachment ring 204 similar to attachment ring 104. Attachment ring 204 may include attachment loops 234 similar to attachment ring 104 and attachment loops 134. Attachment ring 204 may be disposed in a groove between bottle lid 208 and bottle body 202 and may rotate around the central axis of bottle 200 along the circumference of bottle 200.

[0086] 27 shows a side view of the bottle 200. The bottle lid 208 includes a hub 284 that connects the crank 216 to the top of the bottle lid 208. The hub 284 remains stationary while the crank 216 rotates about its central axis.

[0087] The hub 284 includes a bumper 211. The bumper 211 is disposed near the mouthpiece of the bottle lid 208 and prevents the crank 216 from colliding with the mouthpiece or the cap 210 as the crank 216 rotates. More specifically, when the crank 216 is in the extended position (shown in FIG. 30A ), the top surface 213 of the bumper 211 contacts the bottom surface 215 of the crank 216, preventing the crank 216 from contacting the cap 210.

[0088] FIG. 28 shows another front view of the bottle 200 with the crank 216 in the retracted position and the carabiner 212 attached to the bottle 200.

[0089] 29 shows the bottle 200 with the carabiner 212 engaged with the attachment loop 234 by an opening 236. The bottle lid 208 includes one or more gripping portions 228 similar to the gripping surface 128. The one or more gripping portions 228 are configured to assist in attaching or removing the bottle lid 208 from the bottle body 202. A user can grasp the one or more gripping portions 228 when attaching or removing the bottle lid 208 from the bottle body 202 (e.g., by twisting the bottle lid 208 and the bottle body 202 in different rotational directions).

[0090] FIG 30A shows the crank 216 in a deployed position. The crank 216 includes a handle 280, a lever 282, and a hub 284. The handle 280 may pivot about the hub 284 to rotate a mixer disposed within the bottle 200 and attached to the hub 284. The handle 280 of the crank 216 may be received by a slot 286 in a stored position, as shown in FIG 29.

[0091] As described herein, the hub 284 includes a bumper 211 that prevents the lever 282 from contacting the cap 210 when the crank 216 rotates. The top surface 213 of the bumper 211 is in contact with the bottom surface 215 of the lever 282. The bottom surface 215 of the lever 282 is parallel to the top surface 213 of the bumper 211 and the top surface of the bottle lid portion 208 when the crank 216 is in the deployed position. The bumper 211 forms a clearance channel 223 between the cap 210 and the lever 282, allowing the crank 216 to rotate without contacting the cap 210.

[0092] 30A, the lever 282 has an offset configuration such that a first end connected to the hub 284 is lower than a second end connected to the handle 280 when the crank is in the deployed position. This offset configuration also allows for a smaller profile of the bottle 200 when the crank is in the retracted position. When the crank 216 is in the retracted position, the second end connected to the handle 280 is lower than the first end connected to the hub 284.

[0093] The crank 216 may be moved from the stowed position to the deployed position by pivoting the crank 216 in a direction 281 away from the slot 286 toward the cap 210. The crank 216 may be moved from the deployed position by pivoting the crank 216 in a direction 209 away from the cap 210 toward the slot 286.

[0094] 30B shows a lever 282 connected to a hub 284 via a pin 283, which allows the crank 216 to move between a deployed position and a retracted position, as described herein. At its opposite end, the lever 282 is connected to a handle 280 via a connector 285. The handle 280 may rotate about the connector 285 such that as the user rotates the handle 280 about the hub 284, the handle 280 does not move relative to the user's fingers within the user's grasp.

[0095] FIG. 30C shows that the crank 216 can be rotated in a first rotational direction 219 or a second rotational direction 221 about a central axis 263 of the bottle 200 .

[0096] In Figure 30D, the cap 210 is shown separated from the mouthpiece 233. The cap 210 and mouthpiece 233 may have complementary threads so that the cap 210 can be rotatably secured to the mouthpiece 233. The mouthpiece 233 may also be provided with a filter 231 similar to the filter 142. The filter 231 may be attached to the mouthpiece 233 and / or the bottle lid in a manner similar to the filter 142 described herein.

[0097] In Figure 30E, the bottle lid portion 208 is shown separated from the bottle body 202. The bottle body 202 defines a cavity 241 for containing and mixing liquids and solids.

[0098] FIG. 31A shows the exterior of the bottle 200 with the paracord 278 attached, and FIG. 31B shows the interior of the bottle 200. The mixer 214 is shown inside the bottle body 202. The mixer 214 is detachably attached to a shaft 271 connected to a hub 284. Thus, when the handle is rotated as shown in FIG. 30C, the lever 282 also rotates, which rotates the shaft 271 and the mixer 214. The mixer 214 may be a general-purpose mixer, similar to the mixer 114. A gear box configured to convert one rotation of the crank 216 into multiple rotations of the shaft 271 and the mixer 214 may be built into the bottle lid 208.

[0099] The mixer 214 may be removably mounted to the shaft 271 at a mounting location 273, similar to the mixer 114 being removably mounted to the motor 146. In some embodiments, the mixer 214 may have an opening at a first end of the shaft of the mixer 214, the opening having threads around the inside of the opening that are configured to receive corresponding threads around the shaft 271. This allows the mixer 214 (shown as an auger) to be removed and replaced with another mixer of a different configuration (e.g., a whisk, etc.).

[0100] The mixer used in the electric bottle 100 can be used in the hand crank bottle 200 interchangeably. That is, the threads of the shaft 271 connecting the shaft 271 to the mixer 214 are similar to the threads of the shaft of the motor 146. Similarly, the threads around the mixer 214 are similar to the threads around the mixer 114. In the hand crank bottle 200, the base 275 of the mixer 214 is located above the tip 277 of the mixer 214, but when the mixer 214 is used in the electric bottle 100, the base 275 of the mixer 214 is located below the tip 277 of the mixer 214.

[0101] The fact that the mixers are interchangeable between the electric bottle 100 and the hand crank bottle 200 allows users to purchase one set of mixers and use them with either the electric bottle 100 or the hand crank bottle 200, thus reducing costs for users.

[0102] FIG 32A shows the exterior of bottle 200, and FIG 32B shows the interior of bottle 200 with alternative mixer 254 attached. Alternative mixer 254 may be a cone mixer and may be used to mix powders and liquids, similar to mixer 154. In some embodiments, mixer 154 or mixer 160 may be used in bottle 200. Alternative mixer 254 and any mixers described herein (e.g., mixers 114, 154, 160) may be used in bottle 200 as described herein for mixer 214.

[0103] Similarly, the mixer 254 may be used in the electric bottle 100. The mixer 254 includes a number of arms 255 spaced equally around the circumference of the mixer 254. In some embodiments, six arms 255 are provided. Each arm may be connected to the shaft of the mixer 254 at a location near the base 275 of the mixer 254 and a location near the tip 277 of the mixer 254. Each arm may protrude from the shaft of the mixer 254, extend toward the base 275 of the mixer 254, bend at an angle toward the tip 277 of the mixer 254 away from the central axis of the shaft 271, bend toward the tip 277 and toward the central axis of the shaft 271, and be connected to the tip 277 of the mixer 254.

[0104] This particular configuration of the arms 255 allows for aeration into the liquid and also breaks up and mixes the contents of the bottle body 202.

[0105] 33 shows a container 270 similar to container 170. Container 270 includes a lid 266 similar to lid 166 and a body 268 similar to body 168. A bottom end 279 of bottle body 202 is configured to connect to a top end 287 of container 270 in a manner similar to that described herein for container 170 and base 118. In some embodiments, a single container may be used for both the electric bottle 100 and the hand crank bottle 200.

[0106] The bottle 200 may also include a bottom ring 297 attached to the lower end 279 of the bottle body 202, similar to the bottom ring 120 of the electric bottle 100.

[0107] FIG. 34 shows the bottle body 202 connected to a container 270 .

[0108] Any of the components described herein (eg, bottle body, bottle lid, crank, mixer, etc.) may be constructed from durable, hard materials such as steel or plastic.

[0109] Where reference is made to any mixer (eg, mixer 114), any other mixer (eg, mixers 154, 160, 254) may be used interchangeably.

[0110] In the case of the electric bottle 100, the mixer may be disposed near the bottom end of the bottle body with the tip end of the mixer positioned higher than the base end. In the case of the hand crank bottle 200, the mixer may be disposed near the bottom end of the bottle body with the base end of the mixer positioned higher than the tip end.
