[0001] CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 63 / 229,489, filed August 4, 2021, and U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 63 / 239,908, filed September 1, 2021.
[0002] Technical Field SUMMARY OF THE DISCLOSURE An embodiment of the present invention relates to a makeup device that automatically moves a spray device in multiple directions to spray skin spray on a user. [Background technology]
[0003] It takes skill to apply makeup that suits you. For those who are not used to wearing makeup, applying makeup can be frustrating and the results can be far from what you expected. Not everyone has the time or money to seek professional help when they need makeup.
[0004] Advances in robotics, artificial intelligence, and control technology may enable the automation of makeup application. For example, it has been shown that it is possible to train a robot to use an eyeshadow brush on a human face. A practical makeup device for a user needs characteristics such as versatility, compactness, ease of use, and safety. However, compactness and versatility can sometimes be conflicting goals. A device with versatile characteristics may be large. On the other hand, a small device usually does not have the space to satisfy all of the desired characteristics.
[0005] Furthermore, small devices such as handheld displays require manual movements by the user, making it difficult to apply cosmetics accurately. This accuracy can be improved by using stationary, small devices, but compactness often hampers coverage of large areas, such as applying cosmetics to the user's face. Users of stationary, small devices may be required to physically reposition their heads (e.g., facing forward, facing right, facing left, etc.) multiple times to allow the device to reach all sides of the user's face. This repositioning may cause the device to misalign various aspects of the user's face, resulting in undesirable results.
[0006] Therefore, the design and manufacture of a makeup device that is both versatile and compact has become a challenge. Summary of the Invention
[0007] In one embodiment, the makeup device includes a housing, a rotating platform, a spray head, a moving means, and a control circuit. The rotating platform is operable to rotate within the housing about a vertical central axis. The spray head is coupled to the rotating platform and operable to receive a spray cartridge and cause the spray cartridge to spray a substance contained within the spray cartridge against a target area of a user's skin. The moving means is operable to move the spray head vertically and horizontally relative to the target area. The moving means is coupled to the rotating platform and rotates with the rotating platform. The control circuit is within the housing and controls the operation of the rotating platform and the moving means.
[0008] In another embodiment, the makeup application device includes a housing, a rotating platform, a spray head, a z-slider arm, a y-slider arm, an x-slider track, and a control circuit. The rotating platform is operable to rotate within the housing about a vertical central axis. The spray head is coupled to the rotating platform and operable to receive the spray cartridge and cause the spray cartridge to spray a substance contained within the spray cartridge onto a target area of the user's skin. The z-slider arm is attached at an upper end to the spray head such that the spray head undergoes vertical motion. The y-slider arm has a horizontal track along which the z-slider arm slides. The y-slider arm slides along the x-slider track. The x-slider track is mounted on the rotating platform and is perpendicular to the z-slider arm and the y-slider arm. The control circuit is within the housing and controls the movement of the rotating platform, the y-slider arm, and the z-slider arm.
[0009] Other aspects and features will become apparent to those of ordinary skill in the art upon review of the following description of specific embodiments in conjunction with the accompanying figures. [Brief description of the drawings]

[0013] Disclosed herein is a makeup device having a compact housing that can be placed on a tabletop or countertop with a minimal footprint. The housing of the device is stationary and does not move during operation of the device. The components of the device, such as the spray head, are automatically deployed to extend outwardly of the housing when in use and retracted inside the housing when not in use. A spray cartridge containing a skin spray can be inserted into the spray head before use and removed after use. The spray head is supported by a moving mechanism, which is mounted on a rotating platform within the housing. The moving mechanism and rotating platform allow the spray head to be moved to an optimal position for spraying the target area. As described below, the makeup device is compact, versatile, easy to use, and safe. The moving mechanism and rotating platform move along multiple dimensions, allowing for coverage of a large area, such as the user's entire face. The user can be stationary in one position during operation of the device. The moving mechanism moves the spray head around the user's face. Thus, the user can apply the skin spray over the entire face with great precision without having to reposition their head and without the alignment problems discussed above.
[0014] The makeup device applies a skin spray to a target area (e.g., an area of human skin, such as a human face). The skin spray is also referred to as a spray-on skin product, and includes cosmetics, skin care products, pharmaceutical skin products, dermatological products, and the like. In some embodiments, the skin spray is a liquid, fluid, or liquid-like material, and the liquid material includes any material of any viscosity that can be sprayed by compressed air, such as a solution, a fluid mixture, an oil, or a lotion. For simplicity of the following description, the skin spray may be referred to as a liquid. The process of applying atomized liquids to a user's skin may be referred to as an "application process." Although the term "makeup process" may be used in this disclosure, it is understood that this "makeup" is a non-limiting example of the use of the device of the present disclosure to spray the liquid contents in a spray cartridge onto a user's skin. In the following, the focus will be on the user's face, however the apparatus and method of the present invention may be applied to any part of the human body.
[0015] The spray cartridge disclosed herein can be used in any device capable of spraying atomized liquid onto the skin of a user, and the makeup device disclosed herein can also use other types of spray cartridges, including but not limited to those shown and described in this disclosure. In the drawings accompanying the detailed description of the invention, a round spray disk is illustrated as an example of a spray cartridge. It is understood that the makeup device can use any shape of spray cartridge, including but not limited to round shapes.
[0016] FIG. 1 is a diagram of a makeup device 100 according to an embodiment. The makeup device 100 includes a housing 110 and a rotating platform, such as an inner cylinder 120. In alternative embodiments, the rotating platform may have other shapes than a cylinder. The housing 110 may be cylindrical or generally cylindrical. In some embodiments, the cross section of the housing 110 is not circular, but may be a teardrop shape, a generally oval shape, or other geometric shapes obtained by stretching a circle. The cross sections of the housing 110 at different heights may be the same shape, generally the same shape, or different shapes.
[0017] The inner barrel 120 extends longitudinally along the height dimension (also referred to as the vertical direction) of the housing 110 and has a circular cross section. The inner barrel 120 rotates about its central axis (also referred to as the cylindrical axis) to allow the spray head 130 to be positioned on the inner barrel 120 and other components attached to the inner barrel 120 to rotate about the cylindrical axis as well. The housing 110 and / or the inner barrel 120 may have one or more internal cavities (not shown) that house electrical, mechanical and / or electronic components, including, but not limited to, one or more of a motor, a battery, an air compressor, electrical wires, a communication device providing wireless connectivity (e.g., Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, etc.), one or more processors, and a memory module. In some embodiments, some of these components (e.g., the air compressor) may be located outside the housing 110 and connected to components within the housing via electrical and / or mechanical means. The memory module stores software executable by the one or more processors. The software may include a user navigation interface to assist a user in using the device 100, and control software to control the operation of the device. Components housed or embedded within the inner barrel 120 may rotate with the rotational movement of the inner barrel 120 or may remain stationary as the inner barrel 120 rotates. In one embodiment, the upper ledge 150 of the housing 110 may be used by a user as a chin support or chin rest to secure the user's head. It is understood that FIG. 1 illustrates a non-limiting example of a makeup device. The scope of the present disclosure encompasses makeup devices of various dimensions, shapes and / or sizes.
[0018] In the example of FIG. 1, a spray cartridge such as a spray disk 132 is shown inserted into a spray head 130 to spray one or more skin spray substances on a target area, such as a user's face. The spray disk 132 has one or more nozzles 135 located on its periphery. In one embodiment, the spray disk 132 has a plurality of partitions, each partition having a liquid tank for containing a liquid and a nozzle 135 for spraying the liquid contained in the corresponding liquid tank. Different liquid tanks may contain different skin spray substances. Some nozzles 135 may have different shapes and / or sizes. In another embodiment, the spray disk 132 may have one nozzle and one liquid tank containing one liquid substance. In such an embodiment, the spray disk 132 may be referred to as a pod. During operation of the makeup application device 100, a motor may drive the spray head 130 to rotate the spray disk 132 so that a selected nozzle 135 faces a target area of a user (hereinafter referred to as a target area). As mentioned above, the spray disk 132 is a non-limiting example of a spray cartridge having a shape that may be different from a disk shape (i.e., round). If necessary for the spraying action, the makeup application device 100 may rotate a spray cartridge of any shape.
[0019] In one embodiment, the side of the spray head 130 facing the user (also referred to as the front side) includes an imaging system 131 that uses depth-sensing technology to detect depth and pop-out of a target area, such as the user's face. The imaging system 131 may include multiple cameras, such as stereo cameras or other types of depth-sensing cameras, and may include sensors, such as frequency sensors (e.g., sensors operating in ultrasonic, infrared, low-frequency ultraviolet frequency ranges, and / or other frequency ranges). Depth detection allows the imaging system 131 to create an accurate 3D mesh and accurately map the 3D mesh to the target area. For example, when applying makeup to the user's face, the accurate 3D mesh allows the device 100 to accurately apply a 3D makeup design on the face. The imaging system 131 may also include circuitry and / or software for detecting depth using methods such as a contrast ratio method, a laser meter method, a focusing method, and the like. Images captured by the imaging system 131 can be used by hardware and / or software within the device 100 to locate the area of interest, create a 3D profile (e.g., a 3D mesh) of the user's face, and / or identify the user's identity, among other functions. The imaging system 131 may also include lighting, which may include one or more of light emitting diode (LED) lighting, diffuse lighting, and the like, to illuminate the area of interest. The imaging system 131 may also include one or more of a motion sensor, a temperature sensor, a light sensor, an ultrasonic sensor, and the like. It is understood that the device 100 may include any number of cameras, sensors, lighting, and / or other user interface modules, which may be located anywhere on the spray head 130 and / or other portions of the device 100 (e.g., mounted or embedded in the housing 110, within the observation element 140, described below, etc.).
[0020] In one embodiment, the device 100 has an audio user interface, such as a speaker. During operation, the device 100 may provide step-by-step audio commands via the speaker to guide the user. For example, the device 100 may generate audio commands via the speaker to remind the user to keep their eyes closed while spraying makeup. The audio commands may also include suggestions, warnings, music, and other audio signals.
[0021] In one embodiment, an element with a viewing surface (referred to as viewing element 140) is attached to housing 110. The front side (side facing the user) of viewing element 140 has a viewing surface that may occupy the entire front surface of viewing element 140 or may occupy a portion of the front surface of viewing element 140. In one embodiment, the viewing surface may be a mirror that reflects a reflected image of the user. The mirror may be a flat mirror or a magnifying mirror. In another embodiment, viewing element 140 is or includes a digital display panel that displays digital images. In yet another embodiment, viewing element 140 may include a combination of a mirror and a digital display panel. The display panel may be the same as or similar to a display screen of a computer and / or a smart phone. The digital image may be a digital image of the user captured by imaging system 131 or another camera, an augmented reality (AR) digital image (e.g., makeup or styling options superimposed on the image of the user), an image or sequence of images (e.g., a video) recommended to or selected by the user, a real-time online consulting session with a makeup coach or other party, a website such as a social media site, etc. Observation elements 140 may include cameras, sensors, microphones, speakers, and lights. In one embodiment, observation elements 140 include lights that can change, for example, automatically in response to sensor input from sensors embedded in observation elements 140 or elsewhere on device 100, or in response to user input. Observation elements 140 may also include a software interface embedded in the viewing surface to assist a user in operating many of the functions of device 100.
[0022] The viewing element 140 is attached to the housing 110 via an attachment means, such as two arms as shown in FIG. 1. Referring to FIG. 1, each arm 142 has an upper portion connected to a lower portion by a middle joint. The upper portion is attached to the viewing element 140 by an upper joint, and the lower portion is attached to the housing 110 by a lower joint. The upper, middle, and lower joints allow both portions of the arm 142 to rotate clockwise and counterclockwise about their respective joint axes, thereby allowing the viewing element 140 to be positioned and oriented appropriately for a user. In one embodiment, the arm 142 can be adjusted to move the viewing element 140 to a first position on the distal side of the housing 110 (i.e., the back side, which is the side furthest from the user), a second position on the proximal side of the housing 110 (i.e., the front side, which is the side closest to the user), and other positions between the first and second positions. During an ejection operation of the device 100, the viewing element 140 can be located in the first position. When the viewing element 140 is in the second position, the user is able to see themselves more closely in the mirror before and after the ejection action.
[0023] In one embodiment, each arm 142 may have a built-in mechanical belt that can be driven to automatically adjust the position and orientation of the viewing element 140, for example to a user preset position. In an alternative embodiment, the arms 142 may be manually adjusted by a user.
[0024] It is understood that the observation element 140 and arm 142 of FIG. 1 provide a non-limiting example. It is understood that the observation element 140 and / or the observation surface may have any shape, such as rectangular, round, square, etc., and the observation element 140 may be attached to the housing 110 by a different attachment means than the arm 142 shown in FIG. 1. For example, the attachment means may be a single arm, a telescopic pole, or another mechanism. The attachment means may be fixed to one or both sides of the observation element 140, or to the back surface of the observation element 140. The attachment means may be arranged along any suitable dimension. The attachment means allows the observation element 140 to be folded and stored, and allows the observation element 140 to be placed in any predetermined position for each make-up step.
[0025] The spray head 130 can translate in three orthogonal directions, namely along the x-axis, y-axis, and z-axis. The z-axis is parallel to the cylindrical axis of the inner cylinder 12. The x-axis and y-axis define an XY plane (i.e., a horizontal plane) that is perpendicular to the z-axis. The x-axis, y-axis, and z-axis are not fixed axes. All of these axes rotate with the inner cylinder 120. When the inner cylinder 120 is in the initial position (i.e., zero degree rotation), the y-axis faces the user sitting in front of the device 100. The y-axis motion of the spray head 130 moves the spray head 130 closer to or farther from the target area. The x-axis motion of the spray head 130 moves the spray head 130 in a direction perpendicular to the y-axis motion in the horizontal plane, and the z-axis motion of the spray head 130 moves the spray head 130 up and down relative to the target area. As will be described below with reference to FIG. 2, the x-axis, y-axis and z-axis are aligned with x-slider track 201, y-slider arm 202 and z-slider arm 203, respectively.
[0026] 2, 3A and 3B, the z-slider arm 203 is oriented vertically on the top of the inner cylinder 120 and extends longitudinally along a z-axis parallel to the cylindrical axis. The upper end of the z-slider arm is attached to the spray head 130. The height of the z-slider arm 203 is adjustable (i.e., made longer or shorter) so that the spray head 130 can be positioned at a suitable height for the target area. In one embodiment, the z-slider arm 203 is made of a set of telescopic tubes that can be extended or shortened longitudinally for height adjustment.
[0027] 2, 4A and 4B, the y-slider arm 202 includes a first horizontal track on which the z-slider arm 203 and the spray head 130 thereon can be moved toward or away from the target area. One end of the y-slider arm 202 is attached to the x-slider track 201, and the other end of the y-slider arm 202 can extend longitudinally beyond the outer periphery of the housing 110. The extension of the y-slider arm 202 allows the z-slider arm 203 to slide beyond the outer periphery of the housing 110 to increase the distance between the spray head 130 and the target area, thereby increasing the spray coverage.
[0028] 2, 5A and 5B, the x-slider track 201 is a horizontal track installed on a rotating platform such as the inner cylinder 120. The x-slider track 210 is perpendicular to the y-slider arm 202 and the z-slider arm 203. The y-slider arm 202 slides on the x-slider track 201, so that the z-slider arm 203 and the spray head 130 thereon can be moved left and right relative to the target area. The x-slider track 201 in the fully closed position is located under the upper ledge 150 of the housing 110, and can rotate the upper ledge 150 in accordance with the rotational movement of the inner cylinder 120.
[0029] In addition to the three translational movements, the device 100 can also perform three rotational movements. In operation, the device 100 can combine any of these translational and rotational movements to orient the nozzle 135 at an optimal angle for spray application. With reference to Figures 6A and 6B, the inner barrel 120 can be actuated to perform a first rotational movement by rotating clockwise and counterclockwise about the cylindrical axis. This first rotational movement moves the spray head 130 about the cylindrical axis.
[0030] 7A and 7B, the device 100 can perform a second rotational motion by rotating the spray head 130 horizontally clockwise and counterclockwise at the base of the spray head 130 where it connects to the z-slider arm 203. The axis of rotation for the second rotational motion is the z-axis along the z-slider arm 203. The first and second rotational motions change the orientation of the spray head 130 relative to the target area.
[0031] Furthermore, as shown in Figures 8A and 8B, the device 100 can perform a third rotational motion by rotating the spray disk 132 (i.e., and the nozzle 135) clockwise and counterclockwise during spraying to create a spreading effect, or by selecting different nozzles on the spray disk 132. In the third rotational motion, the orientation of the spray head 130 does not change. It is the spray disk 132 that is rotated by the spray head 130. The rotation axis of the third rotational motion is the disk central axis of the spray disk 132. These three types of rotational motions can be performed independently of each other. These rotational motions can be performed simultaneously or sequentially in any order.
[0032] 9A, 9B, and 9C respectively show a fully open, partially closed, and fully closed makeup device according to one embodiment. In the fully open position, the z-slider arm 203 extends upward, moving the spray head 130 above the upper ledge 150 of the housing 110, and the observation element 140 unfolds with its front side facing the target area. When partially or fully closed, the spray head 130, the x-slider track 201, the y-slider arm 202, and the z-slider arm 203 can retract (or remain) within the internal cavity of the housing 110, and the top surface of the spray head 130 is aligned with the upper ledge 150 of the housing 110. When the makeup device 100 is fully closed, the observation element 140 can be folded with its front side facing the upper side of the housing 110, more specifically, on the top surface of the upper ledge 150 and the spray head 130. In one embodiment, the observation element 140 may have the same or approximately the same size as the top surface of the housing 110 .
[0033] In one embodiment (not shown), the lower portion of arm 142 can slide past a lower joint and move downward along housing 110 toward the bottom surface of housing 110. When viewing element 140 reaches the fully closed position, 140 is placed on the housing 110 with the front side facing down, and each arm 142 is placed on the side of the housing 110 with the upper and lower portions aligned substantially vertically. For this reason, in this embodiment, the arm 142 (more specifically, the central joint) in the fully closed position does not protrude from the side of the housing 110.
[0034] An example of the operation of the makeup device 100 is described below with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2. In this example, the makeup device 100 is in a position to spray a skin spray onto a target area (e.g., the left cheek of a user). The operations can be performed in any order, including but not limited to the order described herein. In some embodiments, some of the operations can be performed simultaneously. The device 100 performs a z-axis motion to raise the spray head 130 above the upper ledge 150 of the housing 110. The device 100 also performs a y-axis motion to move the z-slider arm 203 (and the spray head 130) to the distal end of the y-slider arm 202 (away from the target area). The device 100 also performs an x-axis motion to move the y-slider arm 202 (and the spray head 130) to the left end of the x-slider track 201. The device 100 also performs a first rotational motion by rotating the inner cylinder 120 about the cylindrical axis to position the spray head 130 at an appropriate angle relative to the target area. The first rotational motion can rotate the spray head 130 180 degrees or more around the cylindrical axis. The y-slider arm 202 can extend longitudinally such that the z-slider arm 203 and the spray head 130 are located outside the outer periphery of the housing 110. The device 100 can also perform a second rotational motion by rotating the spray head 130 around its base. The device 100 can also perform a third rotational motion by rotating the spray disc 132 around the central axis of the spray disc to select the appropriate nozzle 135 and / or create a diffusion effect.
[0035] FIG. 10 shows an integrated chin rest 1010 according to one embodiment. With reference to FIGS. 1 and 2, the chin rest 1010 is configured to extend from the front of the housing 110 to a position above the upper ledge 150 of the housing 110, thereby supporting the user's chin and helping position the user's head at the correct height and distance from the spray head 130. The chin rest 1010 functions to position the user's head in an optimal use position (e.g., in terms of depth and height) and posture (for optimal spray function on the skin to prevent twisting). The chin rest 1010 may be provided with a sensor that detects whether the user's chin is on the chin rest 1010 and, as a safety feature, stops operation of the device if the user removes it for any reason. In one embodiment, the top end of the chin rest 1010 is hinged to the front of the housing 110, and the bottom end is unhinged and may be extended and swing upward to a locked position on the top ledge. When not in use, the chin rest portion 1010 can be folded and pushed back to the front of the housing 110.
[0036] 11A and 11B show a removable chin rest according to one embodiment. Referring again to FIG. 1, the illustrated chin rest 1110 is attached to the side of the housing 110 facing the user (i.e., the front side) and extends longitudinally along the front side of the housing 110. The chin rest 1110 has an upper end for supporting the user's chin and a lower end aligned with the bottom surface of the housing 110. The chin rest 1110 is removable from the housing 110. In some embodiments, the chin rest 1110 is not limited to the makeup apparatus 100 and can be attached to any device or machine. The attachment mechanism can include a magnet, a notch, and the like. In one embodiment, the chin rest 1110 has a main body 1120 and a pair of arched arms 1130. The main body 1120 has an elongated shape with an upper surface for supporting the user's chin and a base for installation. In one embodiment, the body 1120 has an arched profile from the top to the base, with the largest cross section at the base. The larger base ensures that the device 100 will not tip over when the weight of the user's head rests on the top. In another embodiment, the body 1120 may have the same cross section along the longitudinal direction.
[0037] In one embodiment, one end of the arched arm 1130 is attached to the body 1120. When not in use, the arched arm 1130 can wrap around the housing 110. When in use, the arched arm 1130 can be swung upwards towards a user and pressed against the user's head or ear. The arched arm 1130 can help secure the user's head during operation of the device 100. In one embodiment, the arched arm 1130 includes earphone wiring and audio electronics. The end of the arched arm 1130 can extend and be pressed against the user's ear to provide the user with audio signals such as suggestions, alerts, music, or other audio.
[0038] 12A and 12B show a top view of a makeup device (e.g., device 100) according to one embodiment. For ease of illustration, the top ledge of the housing 110 is not shown in this example. The housing 110 (also referred to as a body shell) has an outer wall and an inner wall. The outer wall in this example is generally cylindrical. In alternative embodiments, the outer wall is not limited to a cylindrical shape and can have any shape. As a non-limiting example, the top view of the outer wall can have a teardrop shape, with the tip of the teardrop notched to accommodate a chin rest. The outer and inner walls of the housing can have different shapes. For example, the top view of the outer wall can be teardrop shaped with a notch, and the top view of the inner wall can be circular or approximately circular. Inside the housing 110 is a rotating platform, which in this example is an inner cylinder 120. In alternative embodiments, the rotating platform is not limited to a cylindrical shape and can have any shape.
[0039] In FIG. 12A, the inner cylinder 120 is in an initial position, i.e., the inner cylinder 120 is rotated zero degrees. The Y-slider arm 202 extends outside the outer wall of the housing 110. In FIG. 12B, the inner cylinder 120 rotates counterclockwise from the initial position, such that the positions of the x-slider track 201, the y-slider arm 202, and the z-slider arm 203 also rotate with the inner cylinder 120. It is understood that FIG. 12A and FIG. 12B provide non-limiting examples. A makeup device according to an embodiment of the present invention may have dimensions similar to or different from the embodiments shown in FIG. 12A and FIG. 12B.
[0040] FIG. 13A shows a top view of a makeup device 1300 according to another embodiment. In this embodiment, the device 1300 includes a swing arm 1310 instead of an x-slider track and a y-slider arm. The base of the swing arm 1310 is connected to the top end of a z-slider arm 1330. The swing arm 1310 can rotate clockwise and counterclockwise around the base. In one embodiment, the swing arm 1310 can be telescopic, i.e., it can extend and retract to adjust the position of the spray head 130. The rotation of the swing arm 1310 and the rotation of the inner barrel 120 can move the spray disc 130 left and right relative to the target area. Additionally, the spray head 130 can rotate around its base, where the spray disc 130 is connected to the swing arm 1310. The rotational and Z-axis movement of the spray head 130 along the swing arm 1310 can move the spray head 130 to a wide range of positions. The spray head 130 is operable to house the spray disc 132 and rotate the spray disc 132 about a vertical disc central axis to project a skin spray substance contained in the spray disc 132 onto a target area of the user's skin. The rotation of the spray disc 132 can create a spreading effect and / or allow for the selection of different nozzles of the spray disc 132.
[0041] FIG. 13B is a diagram showing a spray head 1320 of a makeup device 1300 according to an embodiment. The spray head 1320 in this example is a circular case that can rotate around its center. In one embodiment, the spray head 1320 has an upper cover that can be opened upward when storing the spray disc 132. In one embodiment, the spray head 1320 has a lower cover that can be opened downward when storing the spray disc 132. In FIG. 13A, the spray head 130 is a semicircular case with a slit opening on the side through which the spray disc 132 can be inserted. It is understood that the spray disc and spray head used in the makeup device disclosed herein can have any shape, and examples of the spray disc 132 and spray head 1320 are not limited.
[0042] FIG. 14 is a block diagram illustrating an automated makeup device 1400 ("device 1400") according to one embodiment. Device 1400 may be an example of device 100 and device 1300 described above. It is understood that the embodiment of FIG. 14 is simplified for illustrative purposes. Additional hardware components may be included. Device 1400 includes a spray head 1440 into which a spray cartridge 1430 is inserted and removed after use. In one embodiment, spray cartridge 1430 may include multiple liquid tanks and corresponding nozzles. In one embodiment, spray cartridge 1430 may have one liquid tank and one nozzle. Spray head 130 and spray disk 132 of FIG. 1 are non-limiting examples of spray head 1440 and spray cartridge 1430, respectively.
[0043] The device 1400 includes a controller 1410, which may further include processing hardware such as one or more general-purpose processors, dedicated circuitry, or a combination thereof. The controller 1410 is connected to a memory 1415. The memory 1415 may include dynamic random access memory (DRAM), SRAM, flash memory, or other non-transitory computer-readable storage media, such as volatile or non-volatile memory devices. In one embodiment, the memory 1415 may store instructions that, when executed by the processing hardware of the controller, cause the controller 1410 to control the movement and automatic makeup operation of the device 1400, and the movement and spray operation of the spray cartridge 1430. The controller 1410 may automatically control an air pump valve or air pump to output the amount of air required for optimal performance to control the flow of skin spray to the nozzle of the spray cartridge 1430.
[0044] The device 1400 further includes a motor module 1450 that includes multiple motors. The motor module 1450 allows for the movement of the spray head 1440 and the rotation of the spray cartridge 1430 under the control of the controller 1410. Although FIG. 14 illustrates the motor module 1450 as a single block, it is understood that the motor module 1450 may include multiple motors located at multiple locations within the device 1400 to control different movements of the spray head 1440 and the spray cartridge 1430. The device 1400 further includes an air compressor 1420 that provides compressed air to the spray cartridge 1430 under the command of the controller 1410. In some embodiments, the air compressor 1420 may be located outside the housing of the device 1400 and connected to components within the device housing via electrical wiring or air tubing. In some embodiments, the air compressor 1420 and the device housing may be located on different surfaces. For example, the device housing may be located on a tabletop and the air compressor 1420 may be located on the floor. Locating the air compressor 1420 outside the device housing reduces vibrations and noise that can be unpleasant to a user and can reduce the accuracy of the spraying action. The device 1400 further includes a mechanical component 1460, such as a robotic component, that moves the spray head 1440 under the commands of the controller 1410. In one embodiment, the machine 1400 further includes an observation element and attachment means 1470. Non-limiting examples of these are the observation element 140 and arm 142 shown in FIG. 1.
[0045] The controller 1410 executes control software 1416 stored in the memory 1415 to control the makeup process, including determining and customizing the operation of the device. In one embodiment, the device 1400 further includes an imaging system 1411 (e.g., imaging system 131 of FIG. 1) capable of capturing a 3D profile of a target area, such as a 3D facial image of a user. According to the 3D profile, the controller 1410 can execute the control software 1416 to determine a series of positions and orientations of the spray head 1440 for applying or spraying liquid from the spray cartridge 1430. The controller 1410 then instructs the motor module 1450 to move the spray head 1440 according to the series of positions and orientations. The imaging system 1411 can also be used to monitor the liquid application process (e.g., the makeup process). The controller 1410 can use information from the camera to ensure the safety and proper use of the device 1400. In one embodiment, the spray cartridge 1430 or spray head 1440 may be marked with a number of fiduciary markings. One or more disk-facing cameras may be located on a portion of the device 1400 facing the spray head 1440, such that during an application session, the disk-facing cameras may continuously monitor the placement and orientation of the spray disk 1430 based on the fiduciary markers. One or more user-facing cameras may monitor the placement and orientation of the user's face. From the monitored data, the controller 1410 may determine the distance and angle between the spray cartridge 1430 and the user's face to further determine whether it is safe to apply makeup to the face.
[0046] In one embodiment, the device 1400 includes a user interface 1412, such as a graphical user interface (GUI), through which the controller 1410 can communicate with the user regarding, for example, the makeup application process and color options to guide the user through the makeup application process. In one embodiment, the device 1400 can also include a network interface 1413 for connecting to a wired and / or wireless network for transmitting and receiving voice, digital data, and / or media signals. For example, the device 1400 can communicate with a user device 1480 via the network interface 1413. The user device 1480 can execute user apps 1490 through which a user can communicate with the device 1400. In one embodiment, the device 1400 can be remotely controlled via the network interface 1413 by the user device 1480 or another device, which can be a remote control device.
[0047] Further details of the operation of the controller 1410 are described below. The controller 1410 executes the control software 1416 to instruct the different device components to operate during a skin spray application session. The controller 1410 instructs the motor module 1450 to move the spray head 1440 along a three-dimensional trajectory and position the spray cartridge 1430 at an appropriate distance and angle relative to the target area (e.g., the user's face). The distance and angle may be determined based on 3D imaging of the face. The controller 1410 instructs the motor module 1450 to rotate the spray cartridge 1430 about a central axis (coincident with the z-axis) and point a selected nozzle at the face. The sequence of spray head movements and spray disk rotation may be determined based on a preselected makeup template (i.e., makeup pattern). For example, a preselected gala style makeup template may include foundation, highlight, two-tone eyeshadow, and blush. Accordingly, the controller 1410 determines the activation sequence (nozzles A-B-C-D-E) and flow rate of each liquid tank. The controller 1410 instructs the motor module 1450 to move the spray head 1440 in front of the target area of the face according to the 3D face image and rotate the spray cartridge 1430 by a predetermined angle. For example, when a foundation is selected, the spray cartridge 1430 rotates so that the partition containing the selected foundation faces the user and the corresponding nozzle is directed toward the target area of the user's face. The air compressor 1420 injects compressed air into the intake of the selected partition to spray the foundation onto the user's face.
[0048] 15 is a flow diagram illustrating a method 1500 for controlling an automatic makeup operation according to one embodiment. The method 1500 may be performed by an automatic makeup device to spray a skin spray liquid contained in a multi-nozzle spray disk onto a user. With reference to FIGS. 1, 2, 13A, 13B, and 14, the steps of the method 1500 may be performed by components of the device 100, 1300, or 1400 under the control of the controller 1410.
[0049] When an application session is initiated, the method 1500 starts. In step 1510, the device determines the placement and orientation of a set of corresponding nozzles of the spray cartridge to spray the skin spray on the target area. In step 1520, the device moves the spray head to one of the positions. The device controls the movement of the rotation platform and the moving means (e.g., y-slider arm 202, z-slider arm 203, swing arm 1310 and / or other movements described above) according to the set of positions. In step 1530, the device rotates the spray cartridge about the central axis of the spray cartridge to aim the corresponding nozzles at the target area. In step 1540, the device supplies compressed air to the corresponding nozzles to spray the liquid on the target area.
