Description

[Technical field]

[0001] The present invention relates generally to an apparatus suitable for ultra-high purity liquid analysis applications, and more particularly to an improved bottle cap that allows for easy removal of air or bubbles from the interior of a bottle or container, and a bottle or container that cooperates with such a bottle cap. [Background technology]

[0002] Recent advances in modern analytical equipment have improved the sensitivity of analysis. Trace elements are now measured at ppt or sub-ppt levels. These levels can be achieved if careful control of the analytical protocol is maintained. Contamination can come from anything that comes into contact with the sample, for example, the laboratory environment, the air, and anything used during sample preparation.

[0003] Water quality has a considerable impact on instrumental analysis. Studies on ultratrace analysis have shown that blank optimization is only achievable when ultrapure water with sub-ppt levels of contamination for most of the elements is used. The risk of contamination increases significantly when ultrapure water is stored. Results clearly show that the quality of highly pure water decreases with storage time.

[0004] One study has shown that when ultrapure water is left open to the atmosphere, anion concentrations of about 0.1 ppb can be detected within 1 hour, and anion concentrations of about 1 ppb can be detected after 8 hours of storage. Naturally, there will be differences in concentrations depending on the room environment.

[0005] Conventionally, after ultrapure water is sampled in a sample container, air bubbles may remain inside the container after the lid or bottle cap is closed. Even if the air bubbles seem to be successfully removed, a small amount of air bubbles may still remain on the inside sidewall of the container. It is desirable to use the ultrapure water as soon as possible after collection and not to store it. If storage is unavoidable, the container should preferably be covered with ultrapure water and sealed to eliminate contamination from the atmosphere.

[0006] It has been reported that the air sealed in the sample container can be contaminated. Although there are several contamination sources in ultrapure water trace analysis, contamination from the environment (atmosphere) is also considered to be a problem. Therefore, there is a strong need in the art to provide improved devices for ultrapure liquid analysis applications to address such problems. [Prior art documents] [Patent documents]

[0033] In the following detailed description of the disclosure, reference is made to the accompanying drawings which form a part hereof, and in which is shown, by way of illustration, specific embodiments in which the invention may be practiced. These embodiments are described in sufficient detail to enable those skilled in the art to practice the invention.

[0034] Other embodiments may be utilized and structural, logical, and electrical changes may be made without departing from the scope of the present invention, and therefore the following detailed description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, and the embodiments contained herein are defined by the appended claims.

[0035] The semiconductor industry is rapidly advancing with increasing demands for more chips per wafer and finer line widths in the single-digit nanometer range. To address these challenges, monitoring and control of ultra-high purity liquids, such as UltraPure Water (UPW), may be preferably implemented to detect ionic impurities, among other things that can adversely affect wafer yield. Ensuring that contamination levels of ultrapure water used in semiconductor fabrication processes remain as low as possible is a significant challenge.

[0036] Thanks to newly developed instruments, lower and lower detection limits are being reached by trace analysis. Ultrapure water or Highly Purified Water (HPW) is water that has been purified to extremely stringent specifications. Ultrapure water is a term commonly used in the semiconductor industry to emphasize the fact that the water has been treated to the highest level of purity for all contaminant types, including organic compounds, inorganic compounds, dissolved matter, particulate matter, volatile, non-volatile, reactive, inert, hydrophilic, hydrophobic, and dissolved gases.

[0037] For ultrapure water analysis, it is desirable to use the ultrapure water as soon as possible after collection, rather than storing it. If storage is unavoidable, the sample container may preferably be covered with ultrapure water and sealed to eliminate contamination from the atmosphere. Because the air sealed in the sample container may be contaminated, it is desirable to remove any residual air or bubbles left inside the sample container before the collected ultrapure water is stored or used. However, even when the air or bubbles appear to have been successfully removed, a small amount of air or bubbles may still remain on the inner sidewall of the sample container. Conventional sample containers do not allow for easy removal of air or bubbles from inside the sample container after collection of ultrapure water. The present invention addresses this problem.

[0038] The present invention relates to a screw cap for closing a bottle or container, which can easily remove or expel residual air or bubbles from inside the bottle or container. The improved screw cap has a small profile, is cost-effective, and is easy to operate. The present invention can be applied in technical fields including, but not limited to, semiconductor manufacturing, water treatment, medical treatment, research and development, biotechnology, thermal power generation, nuclear power generation, etc. The screw cap has a structure for removing bubbles inside the bottle without impairing the functionality of the sample container, and anyone can easily remove the bubbles remaining inside the container by operating the novel screw cap.

[0039] FIG. 1 is a schematic cross-sectional view showing an improved bottle cap adapted to cooperate with a bottle neck of a bottle according to an embodiment of the present invention. As shown in FIG. 1, according to one embodiment, a bottle 2 comprises a bottle neck 21 onto which a bottle cap 1 is screwed. According to one embodiment, the bottle cap 1 comprises a cap body 10 having a cover plate 11 and a cylindrical part 12. The cylindrical part 12 is integrally formed with the cover plate 11 to form a cap enclosure. According to one embodiment, the cover plate 11 can have a circular shape and the cylindrical part 12 can have an inner area with threads for mounting on a cylindrical bottle neck 21 of a bottle 2 or container with threads. According to one embodiment, the bottle cap 1 is screwed onto the bottle neck 21 of the bottle 2 to seal the mouth 210 of the bottle 2.

[0040] According to one embodiment, the cap body 10 may be made of, but is not limited to, high density polyethylene or fluororesin. According to one embodiment, the bottle 2 may be made of, but is not limited to, high density polyethylene or fluororesin. According to one embodiment, the cap body 10 and the bottle 2 may be made of the same material. According to one embodiment, the cap body 10 may be made of a material different from that of the bottle 2.

[0041] According to one embodiment, the bottle cap 1 further comprises a stop member 13, which protrudes axially from an inner surface 11i of the cover plate 11 of the bottle cap 1 towards the mouth 210 of the bottle 2. According to one embodiment, the stop member 13 comprises a sealing part 131, which may be mechanically supported by a support structure 132. According to one embodiment, the support structure 132 may be integrally formed with the cover plate 11.

[0042] According to one embodiment, the bottle cap 1 further comprises an annular guide plate 14 projecting laterally inwardly from the sidewall surface 12s of the cylindrical part 12. According to one embodiment, the annular guide plate 14 is inclined towards the stop member 13 for engaging with the sealing part 131. When the bottle cap 1 is fitted onto the bottle neck 21 of the bottle 2, the annular guide plate 14 only covers an annular peripheral area of the mouth 210 of the bottle 2. According to one embodiment, the annular guide plate 14 defines a central opening 140 that is sealed by the sealing part 131.

[0043] According to one embodiment, the sealing piece 131 comprises a bottom surface 131b capable of sealing the central opening 140 defined by the annular guide plate 14. According to one embodiment, the bottom surface 131b is a convexly curved surface that facilitates the removal of air or bubbles after the collection of pure liquid. According to one embodiment, the sealing piece 131 further comprises a central bulge portion 131c, a peripheral bulge portion 131p surrounding the central bulge portion 131c, and an annular recessed area 131r between the central bulge portion 131c and the peripheral bulge portion 131p. The peripheral bulge portion 131p is integrally formed with the central bulge portion 131c, and the central bulge portion 131c defines the bottom surface 131b.

[0044] According to some embodiments, the upper edge 14r of the annular guide plate 14 presses against the annular recessed area 131r. In other words, the upper edge 14r of the annular guide plate 14 is positioned in the annular recessed area 131r in a plan view when the bottle cap 1 is not screwed. The bottle cap 1 may have a space between the upper edge 14r of the annular guide plate 14 and the annular recessed area 131r when the bottle cap 1 is not screwed. According to some embodiments, the peripheral bulging portion 131p rests against the upper part 14a of the annular guide plate 14. In other words, the peripheral bulging portion 131p is positioned overlapping the upper part 14a of the annular guide plate 14 in a plan view when the bottle cap is not screwed. The bottle cap 1 may have a space between the peripheral bulging portion 131p and the upper part 14a of the annular guide plate 14 when the bottle cap 1 is not screwed.

[0045] According to one embodiment, the support structure 132 comprises a vertical portion 1321 formed integrally with the cover plate 11 and a horizontal portion 1322 coupled to the vertical portion 1321. According to one embodiment, the support structure 132 further comprises a flexible post 1323 fixed to the inner surface 11i of the cover plate 11. According to one embodiment, the horizontal portion 1322 is fixed to a lower surface of the post 1323. According to one embodiment, the sealing piece 131 is fixed to the horizontal portion 1322 and is opposite the post 1323.

[0046] According to one embodiment, the sealing component 131 and the support posts 1323 may be made of a resilient material, including but not limited to low density polyethylene. According to one embodiment, the vertical portion 1321 and the horizontal portion 1322 are made of the same material as the cap body 10. For example, the vertical portion 1321 and the horizontal portion 1322 of the support structure 132 may be made of, but is not limited to, high density polyethylene or a fluororesin.

[0047] Please also refer to Figures 2 and 3. Figure 2 is a perspective view of the stop member 13 in a normal position according to one embodiment of the present invention. For clarity, the cap body 10 is not depicted in this view according to one embodiment of the present invention. Figure 3 is a perspective view of the stop member 13 in a compressed position during an air or bubble releasing operation according to one embodiment of the present invention.

[0048] As shown in Fig. 2, according to one embodiment, the vertical portion 1321 may include a plurality of bars 1321r. For example, four bars 1321r are depicted in this figure. For example, each of the four bars 1321r may have a cylindrical shape, but is not limited to this. An end surface 1321s of each of the plurality of bars 1321r is connected and fixed to the cover plate 11, although not depicted in the figure.

[0049] According to one embodiment, the support 1323 is fixed to the inner surface 11i of the cover plate 11 and is surrounded by a plurality of rods 1321r. According to some embodiments, the horizontal portion 1322 includes at least one recess on the upper surface to engage with the vertical portion 1321. For example, as shown in FIG. 2, the horizontal portion 1322 includes four recess structures 1322r, which respectively receive the lower ends of the four rods 1321r to buffer the vertical movement of the vertical portion 1321 during operation. During operation, as shown in FIG. 2 and FIG. 3, the four rods 1321r can guide the horizontal portion 1322 to move vertically, like a piston in an engine. By providing such a configuration, the airtightness of the bottle 2 can be improved when the bottle cap 1 is attached.

[0050] Optionally, each of the four bars 1321r may have a groove or slot 1321st on the surface along the length of each of the four bars 1321r. As seen in FIG. 3, when the support 1323 is slightly compressed due to the stress F from the upper edge 14r (shown in FIG. 1) of the annular guide plate 14, the lower ends of the four bars 1321r are received by the four recessed structures 1322r, and the lower ends of the four bars 1321r can reach the bottom surfaces of the four recessed structures 1322r, thereby engaging with the horizontal portion 1322. In this case, the slot 1321st facilitates the discharge of air in the recessed structures 1322r during operation. The stop member 13 does not apply excessive pressure to the annular guide plate 14, so as to prevent the deformation of the annular guide plate 14 and improve the durability of the annular guide plate 14.

[0051] Referring back to FIG. 1, according to some embodiments, the bottle cap 1 may further include an elastic sealing membrane 141 adhered to the underside of the annular guide plate 14. According to one embodiment, a gasket or elastic sealing membrane 211 is attached to the top surface of the bottle neck 21. The elastic sealing membrane 141 and the elastic sealing membrane 211 together seal the space between the two mating surfaces between the bottle cap 1 and the bottle neck 21, thereby preventing leakage from or into the bottle 2 during compression. The elastic sealing membrane 141 may be used alone, without the elastic sealing membrane 211, although both the elastic sealing membrane 141 and the elastic sealing membrane 211 are depicted in FIG. 1.

[0052] According to one embodiment, the bottle cap 1 may further include an annular fastening structure 15 integrally formed with the cap body 10. According to one embodiment, the annular fastening structure 15 may be disposed adjacent to the cylindrical part 12.

[0053] Please also refer to Figures 4 and 5. Figure 4 is a perspective view showing only the annular fastening structure 15 according to one embodiment of the present invention. Figure 5 is a plan view of the bottle cap 1 having the annular fastening structure 15 cut along the horizontal plane L1 in Figure 1. It is understood that the cross-sectional view of the bottle cap 1 in Figure 1 is cut along the cutting line L3 in Figure 5. For clarity, Figure 4 only depicts the annular fastening structure 15, and the cap body 10 and the stop member 13 are not depicted. As shown in Figures 4 and 5 and briefly shown in Figure 1, the annular fastening structure 15 surrounds the stop member 13 and is positioned in a position that is approximately aligned with the top surface in the bottle neck 21 when the bottle cap 1 is screwed onto the bottle neck 21.

[0054] When the bottle cap 1 is screwed onto the bottle neck 21, the annular fixing structure 15 presses the annular guide plate 14 to close the elastic sealing membrane 141 and the elastic sealing membrane 211 together, so that the space between the annular guide plate 14 and the upper end surface of the bottle neck 21 is sealed, thereby avoiding leakage of the collected liquid from inside the bottle 2. For example, the elastic sealing membrane 141 may be used alone without the elastic sealing membrane 211 if leakage can be effectively avoided.

[0055] The annular fixing structure 15 may also include at least one passage 151 to facilitate removal of residual air from the inside of the bottle 2. For example, four passages 151 positioned at the bottom of the annular fixing structure 15 are shown in FIG. 5. As best seen in FIG. 1, when the bottle cap 1 is screwed onto the bottle neck 21, the interior space between the cover plate 11, the cylindrical part 12, the stop member 13, and the annular guide plate 14 of the bottle cap 1 may be divided into a first space S1 and a second space S2 by the annular fixing structure 15. The at least one passage 151 communicates the first space S1 with the second space S2. For example, the number of passages 151 may be two, three, four, five or more if the strength of the annular fixing structure may be improved.

[0056] FIG. 6 is a plan view of the bottle cap 1 cut along the horizontal plane L2 in FIG. 1. For the sake of understanding, FIG. 6 only depicts the sealing part 131 of the stop member 13 and the central opening 140 of the annular guide plate 14 with dashed lines, and the sealing part 131 and the central opening 140 are not originally cut along the horizontal plane L2 and depicted in the illustrated FIG. 1, since they are located behind L2 in the view from the bottom of the bottle 2. The central opening 140 of the annular guide plate 14 is surrounded by the outer periphery of the sealing part 131 in the plan view. As shown in FIG. 6, according to one embodiment, the annular guide plate 14 and the elastic sealing membrane 141 may be provided with at least one perforation 143 for discharging air and / or liquid from the internal space between the cover plate 11, the cylindrical part 12, the stop member 13 and the annular guide plate 14. For example, the number of the perforations 143 can be two, three, four, or five or more if the strength of the annular guide plate 14 can be improved. In other words, at least one perforation 143 can communicate the internal space between the cover 11, the cylindrical part 12, the stopper member 13, and the annular guide plate 14 with the outside of the bottle cap 1. For example, as shown in FIG. 6, four perforations 143 are depicted. According to one embodiment, preferably, the four perforations 143 correspond to the four passages 151 of the annular fixing structure 15. According to one embodiment, preferably, the four perforations 143 are disposed close to the cylindrical part 12 and aligned with the four passages 151 in the radial direction, respectively.

[0057] Please refer to FIG. 7 and briefly refer to FIG. 1. FIG. 7 is a side view showing a screw bottle neck of a bottle according to one embodiment of the present invention. As shown in FIG. 1 and FIG. 7, according to one embodiment, the cylindrical part 12 of the bottle cap 1 has a helical internal thread portion 121 mounted under the annular guide plate 14, which cooperates with a complementary helical external thread portion 213 of the bottle neck 21 of the bottle 2. As shown in FIG. 7, the bottle neck 21 has a helical external thread portion 213. The helical external thread portion 213 is not continuous and has a slit 215 in the vertical direction for discharging air and / or liquid from the inside of the bottle cap 1. The slit 215 of the helical external thread portion 213 is for easily discharging the liquid and air inside the bottle cap 1 to the outside.

[0058] According to one embodiment, the helical male thread portion 213 includes at least one protrusion near its lower end to prevent the bottle cap 1 from being closed properly or from being closed too tightly due to personal differences of the user. For example, a smaller protrusion 216a and a larger protrusion 216b may be provided near the lower end of the helical male thread portion 213.

[0059] Please refer to Figures 8-11. Figures 8-11 show the operation of dispensing foam from inside a bottle having an improved bottle cap according to an embodiment of the present invention, where like elements, layers or regions are indicated by like reference numerals. As shown in Figure 8, the bottle 2 is filled with a liquid 300, such as ultrapure water. As shown in Figure 9, the bottle cap 1 is then loosely screwed onto the bottle neck 21 of the bottle 2. At this point, the bottle cap 1 is not tightly closed, and air remaining inside the bottle 2 may be collected in a small central region AC between the top surface 300c of the liquid 300, the slightly upwardly inclined surface 141c of the elastic sealing membrane 141 bonded to the lower surface of the annular guide plate 14, and the curved bottom surface 131b of the central bulge portion 131c.

[0060] According to one embodiment, the curved chamfer 218 around the top surface of the bottle neck 21 makes it easier to collect bubbles in the central area AC. Furthermore, rounding (curving) the top corners of the container mouth can prevent air from being trapped and facilitate its escape. According to one embodiment, the central area AC is designed to be as small as possible.

[0061] As shown in FIG. 10, the bottle 2 can be squeezed and pressure can be applied to the bottle 2 to expel the remaining air and liquid from the inside of the bottle 2 through the path shown by the arrow 400. Because the central bulge portion 131c of the stop member 13 has a curved bottom surface 131b, the bubbles can easily escape from the inside of the bottle 2. After the air is expelled, the airtightness of the inside of the bottle 2 is increased. As shown in FIG. 11, after the air and liquid are expelled to the outside, the bottle cap 1 is tightly closed into a tightly locked position to tightly close the mouth of the bottle 2. Therefore, the mouth of the bottle 2 is sealed by the bottle cap 1. At the same time, the bottom of the vertical portion 1321 can be directly contacted with the upper surface of the recess 1322r of the horizontal portion 1322. Furthermore, the bottom of the annular fixing structure 15 can be directly contacted with the upper surface of the annular guide plate 14. In one or both of the above contacts, the excessive force on the flexible support 1323 can be effectively reduced. Here, as shown in Fig. 11, the residual liquid RL may remain in the first space S1 and the second space S2, which is not an ideal case. Even if there is residual liquid RL in the internal space of the bottle cap 1 when the bottle cap 1 is screwed, the residual liquid RL may flow toward the outside of the bottle cap 1 along the annular guide plate 14, the perforation 143, and the inner surface of the cylindrical part 12 when the bottle cap 1 is twisted to reopen the bottle 2. Therefore, even if the residual liquid RL is contaminated by the remaining air, gas, etc., the mixture of the residual liquid RL and the liquid 300 such as ultrapure water may be prevented.

[0062] Fig. 12 is a schematic diagram showing a double-layer bottle with a bottle cap according to another embodiment of the present invention. As shown in Fig. 12, according to one embodiment, the bottle 3 includes a double-wall structure 310 including an inner wall 311 and an outer wall 312. A gap 313 is provided between the inner wall 311 and the outer wall 312. Providing the bottle 3 with such a double-wall structure 310 can improve airtightness while absorbing forces due to the expansion or contraction of the liquid 300. Preferably, the elasticity of the inner wall 311 can be less than that of the outer wall 312 to absorb the forces.

[0063] It is advantageous to use the present invention because the bottle cap or screw cap has a structure for removing or discharging bubbles or residual air inside the sample bottle without impairing the functionality of the sample bottle, and anyone can easily remove the bubbles left inside the sample bottle by operating the novel bottle cap or screw cap. By simply applying a suitable pressure to the bottle, the air bubbles can escape from the inside of the sample bottle. In addition, the elasticity of the inner wall 311, which is smaller than the outer wall 312, can reduce the unnecessary force inside the bottle 3, and can relieve the unnecessary force of some parts of the bottle cap 1. For example, some parts are the sealing part 131, the vertical part 1321, the horizontal part 1322, the flexible support 1323, and the annular guide plate 14, etc.

[0064] In summary, the improved bottle cap has an improved structure with a function for removing air from the bottle and the cap. The structure of the bottle and the bottle cap makes it difficult for air to remain and allows air or bubbles to easily escape. Closing the bottle cap increases airtightness. The bottle cap can prevent the bottle from being damaged and can prevent the seal (packing) from deteriorating prematurely when the cap is opened. Also, the bottle cap can be closed with the same tightening torque regardless of who closes it. Furthermore, the bottle cap has a structure that prevents water from accumulating inside the cap. The bottle cap also has a function for preventing damage to the bottle or container due to the expansion and contraction of the liquid. Contamination that affects the analysis results can be reduced, and the reliability of the analysis results can be improved.
