AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing video coding technologies face challenges in efficiently encoding and decoding high-definition and ultra-high-definition video data while maintaining image quality, particularly in managing the relationships between luma and chroma components.

Method used

Implementing cross-component sample adaptive offset (CCSAO) filters that reconstruct and process luma and chroma components separately with parallel filters, utilizing classifiers to determine sample offsets, and applying these offsets within a bit depth dynamic range to enhance coding efficiency.

Benefits of technology

Improves coding efficiency by effectively utilizing cross-component correlations, reducing bitrates, and maintaining image quality in high-definition and ultra-high-definition video encoding and decoding processes.

Abstract

An electronic device performs a method for decoding video data, the method including: receiving a picture frame from a video signal, the picture frame including a first component and a second component, reconstructing samples of the first component through a first in-loop filter, reconstructing samples of the second component through a second in-loop filter, determining a classifier for the first component from one or more reconstructed samples of the second component associated with each reconstructed sample of the first component, selecting a first sample offset for each reconstructed sample of the first component according to the classifier, applying a plurality of filters in parallel with the selection of the first sample offset to obtain a plurality of parallel offsets, and extracting an output of a combination of each reconstructed sample of the first component, the first sample offset, and the plurality of parallel offsets from the plurality of filters.
