An electric fishing reel comprising: a reel body having left and right frames and side plates covering the left and right frames; an operating unit provided on the left frame side or the right frame side of the reel body and capable of being rotated; a handle shaft of the operating unit; a drive gear having a cylindrical portion and a toothed surface provided on the outer periphery of the cylindrical portion and frictionally coupled to the handle shaft so as to be rotatable; and a drag washer fitted to the handle shaft so as to prevent rotation and provided at an end of the drive gear on the handle shaft direction side, an electric fishing reel, characterized in that a protrusion is provided that protrudes in the direction of the drive gear from the inside of a side plate that covers the left frame or the right frame, and an end of the protrusion is formed so as to be spaced 3.0 mm or less from an upper surface of the tooth surface of the drive gear as viewed in the handle axis direction, and the protrusion is formed in an area excluding the pinion as viewed in the handle axis direction.
