Description

[Technical Field]

[0001] The present invention relates to exterior vehicle components, and more particularly to improvements in structures suitable for bonding to vehicle body panels. [Background technology]

[0002] Vehicle exterior components are fixed to vehicle body panels with clips or the like, and are also adhered with double-sided adhesive tape. The garnish (exterior part) disclosed in Patent Document 1 has a plurality of ridges on the back surface of a plate-shaped main body, extending longitudinally of the main body at approximately regular intervals. One adhesive surface of a common double-sided adhesive tape is adhered to the tip surfaces of these ridges. The other adhesive surface of the double-sided adhesive tape is covered with a release sheet. The release sheet is peeled off immediately before attaching the garnish to the vehicle body panel, and the garnish is pressed against the vehicle body panel, thereby adhering the garnish to the vehicle body panel via the double-sided adhesive tape. [Prior art documents] [Patent documents]

[0003] [Patent Document 1] Japanese Patent Publication No. 2020-280246 Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]

[0004] The multiple protrusions in Patent Document 1 extend in straight lines or gentle curves, so that even when double-sided adhesive tape is attached to the tip surfaces of these protrusions, no undue force is applied to the release sheet, and the release sheet can cover the other adhesive surface of the double-sided adhesive tape without peeling off from the double-sided adhesive tape until immediately before the process of adhering the garnish to the vehicle body panel is carried out.

[0005] However, when the protrusions are curved with a relatively small radius of curvature, the circumferential length of the inner protrusions is shorter than that of the outer protrusions, and therefore, when the double-sided adhesive tape is applied to the tip surfaces of the multiple protrusions, excessive force is applied to the release sheet. That is, a longitudinal compressive force is applied to the release sheet at the portion corresponding to the inner protrusions. As a result, the release sheet peels off, and the other adhesive surface of the double-sided adhesive tape remains exposed until the garnish is attached to the vehicle body panel, resulting in a deterioration of the adhesive performance of the double-sided adhesive tape. [Means for solving the problem]

[0006] In order to solve the above-mentioned problems, the present invention provides an exterior vehicle component that includes a plate-shaped main body and a plurality of ridges that protrude from the back surface of the main body and extend at approximately regular intervals from one another, and that is adhered to a vehicle body panel with a common double-sided adhesive tape that is affixed to the tip surfaces of the plurality of ridges, wherein the plurality of ridges have a curved region, and the tip surfaces of the ridges that are located inside this curved region form a wave shape such that the height from the main body varies.

[0007] According to the above-mentioned configuration, the difference in circumferential length between the outer ridges and the inner ridges in the curved shape can be offset or alleviated by making the tip surfaces of the inner ridges corrugated, which prevents excessive force from being applied to the release sheet when the double-sided adhesive tape is attached to the multiple ridges, preventing the release sheet from peeling off. As a result, deterioration of the adhesive performance of the double-sided adhesive tape can be avoided, and the exterior part can be reliably adhered to the vehicle body panel.

[0008] Preferably, the apex of the tip end surface of the ridge located inside the curved shape is located on an extension of the tape application surface of the ridge located outside the curved shape. With this configuration, in the curved region of the plurality of ridges, not only the ridges on the outer side of the curved shape but also the peaks of the ridges on the inner side of the curved shape can contribute to bonding the exterior part to the vehicle body panel.

[0009] In one embodiment, the protrusion located on the outside of the curved shape comprises a flange located on the periphery of the body, and the protrusion located on the inside of the curved shape comprises a rib extending along the flange. [Effects of the Invention]

[0010] According to the present invention, even if a common double-sided adhesive tape is attached to the tip surfaces of multiple curved protrusions, the release sheet does not peel off, and deterioration of the adhesive performance of the exterior part to the vehicle body panel can be prevented. [Brief explanation of the drawings]

[Figure 6] 5A and 5B are cross-sectional views showing a state in which the garnish is attached to a vehicle body panel, where (A) shows a portion corresponding to FIG. 5A, and (B) shows a portion corresponding to FIG. 5B. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0012] An embodiment of the present invention will be described below with reference to the drawings. Fig. 1 is a view of a fender garnish 10 (a vehicle exterior part; hereinafter simply referred to as the garnish) as seen from the back. The garnish 10 is made of an injection-molded resin product and has a curved, plate-shaped main body 11. A plurality of clip seats 12 are integrally disposed on the back surface of the main body 11 and are dispersed therein.

[0013] A flange that protrudes toward the vehicle body is formed integrally with the main body 11 around substantially the entire periphery of the periphery of the main body 11. In this embodiment, only the flange located on the outside of the curved shape of the main body 11 is provided for bonding to a vehicle body panel 20 (FIG. 6) described below. This flange (protrusion) is indicated by the reference numeral 15 in the drawing. The flange 15 extends over the entire length of the outer edge of the curved shape of the main body 11.

[0014] Furthermore, the main body 11 has ribs 16 (protrusions) formed on the inside of the flange 15. The ribs 16 extend along the flange 15, and the distance between the flange 15 and the ribs 16 is approximately constant over the entire length. In this embodiment, the ribs 16 are thinner than the flange 15.

[0015] In this embodiment, the flange 15 and the rib 16 have two small convex curved portions, designated by the symbol R. The other portions of the flange 15 and the rib 16 are straight or gently curved.

[0016] As shown in Fig. 5, the main area of the tip surface of the flange 15 is formed by a flat tape application surface 15a. This tape application surface 15a faces the outer surface of the vehicle body panel 20 with a small gap when the garnish 10 is attached to the vehicle body panel 20 (Fig. 6), as will be described later. Furthermore, the tip surface of the flange 15 is formed with a positioning protrusion 15b located outside the curved shape of the garnish 10 and extending along the tape application surface 15a.

[0017] In areas other than the curved portion R, the tip surfaces of the ribs 16 are located on an extension of the tape application surface 15a of the flange 15 and are flat. As shown in Figures 2 and 5, in the curved portion R, the tip surfaces of the ribs 16 are smoothly wavy as shown in Figure 2, with peaks 16a and valleys 16b alternating. The peaks 16a are located on an extension of the tape application surface 15a of the flange 15. The valleys 16b are lower than this extension (closer to the main body 11).

[0018] To attach the garnish 10 to the vehicle body panel 20, clips 30 (FIG. 6) are attached to the clip seats 12 of the garnish 10. As shown in FIGS. 3 to 5, one adhesive surface of a common double-sided adhesive tape 40 is attached to the tape application surface 15a of the flange 15 and the tip surface of the rib 16 over the entire length, including the curved portion R. The other adhesive surface of the double-sided adhesive tape 40 is covered with a release sheet 41. In this embodiment, the base material of the double-sided adhesive tape 40 is made of a foam material.

[0019] In the curved portion R, the inner rib 16 is shorter than the outer flange 15. Therefore, if the tip surface of the rib 16 were flat, when one adhesive surface of the common double-sided adhesive tape 40 was attached to the tape application surface 15a of the flange 15 and the tip surface of the rib 16, a longitudinal compressive force would act on the portion of the release sheet 40 on the rib 16 side, causing the release sheet 40 to peel off from the other adhesive surface of the double-sided adhesive tape 16. However, in this embodiment, the tip surface of the rib 16 is corrugated in the curved portion R, and the length of this corrugated tip surface is longer than in a flat case, so the difference in length between the flange 15 and the rib 16 can be offset or reduced. As a result, no excessive force is applied to the release sheet 41 of the double-sided adhesive tape 40 even in the curved portion R, preventing the release sheet 41 from peeling off and exposing the other adhesive surface of the double-sided adhesive tape 40, thereby maintaining the adhesive performance of the double-sided adhesive tape 40.

[0020] The garnish 10, to which the clips 30 are attached and the double-sided adhesive tape 40 is applied as described above, is attached to the vehicle body panel 20 as shown in FIG. 6. More specifically, immediately before the attachment operation, the release sheet 41 is peeled off from the double-sided adhesive tape 40, and the garnish 10 is brought close to the vehicle body panel 20 with the clips 30 and the double-sided adhesive tape 40 facing the vehicle body panel 20. This causes the clips 30 to engage with the engagement holes 21 in the body panel 20, and the other adhesive surface of the double-sided adhesive tape 40 is adhered to the outer surface of the body panel 20. The flange 15 is adhered to the vehicle body panel 20 over substantially its entire length via the double-sided adhesive tape 40. The rib 16 is also adhered to the vehicle body panel 20 over substantially its entire length via the double-sided adhesive tape 40, except for the curved portion R. At the curved portion R, the top portion 16a of the rib 16 is adhered to the vehicle body panel 20 via the double-sided adhesive tape 40.

[0021] The present invention is not limited to the above-described embodiment, and various other aspects are possible. For example, the plurality of ridges may be formed at a location away from the periphery of the main body. The number of ridges may be three or more. The present invention can be applied to exterior parts other than garnishes. [Industrial Applicability]

[0022] The present invention can be applied to a structure for attaching an exterior vehicle part, such as a garnish, to a vehicle body. [Explanation of symbols]
