[0001] CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 384,433, entitled "Enzyme Stability and Phosphonate Types," filed September 7, 2016, which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.

Specifically, solid detergent compositions containing an enzyme, a phosphonate, an alkaline source, and optionally other ingredients. The enzymes in these detergent compositions exhibit excellent stability after dissolving in the use solution of the composition. The enzyme stability allows the enzyme to function for a longer period of time, thus providing more effective soil removal / redeposition prevention. While enzyme-containing products have evolved from simple powders containing alkaline proteases to more complex granular compositions containing multiple enzymes and even liquid compositions, there remains a need for alternative cleaning applications using stabilized enzymes. Numerous mechanisms have been used to improve enzyme stabilization for storage in detergent compositions. However, improvements remain necessary to ensure that detergent composition use solutions retain their detergency and cleaning performance when exposed to the high temperatures and pH of actual cleaning applications for extended periods of time.

[0006] Therefore, it is an objective to develop detergent compositions containing enzymes and stabilizers that are capable of maintaining suitable enzyme stability for a much longer period of time under the high temperature and high pH conditions in which the use solutions are used.

[0007] It is a further object to develop multi-use solid detergent compositions that not only have storage, shelf, and dimensional stability, but also provide excellent enzyme stability under high temperature and high pH conditions within the solid compositions and in their use solutions, providing improved cleaning performance. Enzyme activity in these compositions or their use solutions is retained for extended periods under high temperature and high pH conditions.

[0008] It is an objective to develop methods for the use of stabilized enzymes either in the detergent composition itself and in the use solution for improved cleaning performance.

[0013] An advantage of the present disclosure is that the enzymes in the solid detergent composition can retain their activity for extended periods of time not only during storage of the solid composition but also in the use solution of the composition.

[0014] Surprisingly, it has been discovered that adding a specific type of phosphonate or its salt, or another specific type of amine phosphonate salt, to detergent compositions containing enzymes can maintain the enzyme activity in the use solution of the composition for a long period of time during the actual use of the composition for cleaning purposes.It has also been discovered surprisingly that the enzyme in the use solution of the detergent composition of the present disclosure has excellent stability.This discovery leads to a more effective composition due to the prolonged enzyme activity for removing soil.Advantageously, this improvement also allows the elimination or reduction of the use of enzymes, stabilizers, or some other ingredients that are commonly found in detergent compositions.
