Description

Dental polymerizable composition

[0001] The present invention relates to a dental polymerizable composition, particularly to a dental polymerizable composition for stereolithography containing a large amount of a photopolymerization initiator. More specifically, the composition can provide cured products that are excellent in strength, toughness, water resistance, and color tone, and have minimal elution from the cured product, resulting in excellent biological safety. The composition is ideal for dental stereolithography materials, particularly dental occlusal splints, denture base materials, and treatment devices for sleep apnea syndrome.

[0002] Dental polymerizable compositions are used as filling and restorative materials for tooth defects and carious cavities, as adhesives for fixing the filling and restorative materials to teeth, as restorative materials for metal or ceramic crowns called inlays or crowns, as luting agents for fixing the restorative materials for crowns to teeth, and as dental materials such as dental occlusal splint materials and denture base materials. Dental polymerizable compositions generally contain a (meth)acrylic polymerizable monomer, a polymerization initiator, and, if necessary, a filler such as an inorganic compound, and other additives.

[0003] Photopolymerization initiators and chemical polymerization initiators are used as polymerization initiators, and dental polymerizable compositions are broadly classified into photopolymerizable compositions containing a photopolymerization initiator, chemically polymerizable compositions containing a chemical polymerization initiator, and compositions having both photopolymerizability and chemical polymerizability containing both initiators, but photopolymerization initiators are an essential component of most dental materials.

[0004] In recent years, many proposals have been made regarding a method for producing a three-dimensional object by repeating the steps of supplying a required amount of controlled light energy to a liquid photocurable resin composition containing a photopolymerization initiator to cure it into a thin layer, supplying another liquid photocurable composition on top of it, and then irradiating it with light under control to cure the layer into a thin layer, known as an optical three-dimensional modeling method (stereolithography).

[0005] A typical method for optically producing a three-dimensional object is liquid vat stereolithography, in which the liquid surface of a liquid photocurable composition placed in a container is selectively irradiated with a computer-controlled ultraviolet laser to obtain a desired pattern, curing the composition to a predetermined thickness and forming a cured layer, and then a layer of liquid photocurable composition is supplied on top of the cured layer, irradiated with an ultraviolet laser in the same manner as above and cured in the same manner to form successive cured layers, repeating this lamination process to produce a three-dimensional object of the final shape. This method has attracted considerable attention in recent years because it can produce the desired three-dimensional object easily, in a relatively short time, and with high accuracy, even if the shape of the object is quite complex.

[0006] The applications of three-dimensional objects obtained by stereolithography have expanded from mere concept models to test models, prototypes, and final products. In particular, in the field of dental materials, applications of stereolithography are expected to be expanded for dental occlusal splints, denture bases, and mouthpiece-shaped materials for treating sleep disorders, such as devices to prevent teeth grinding and treat sleep apnea syndrome, because the shapes vary from patient to patient and are complex.

[0007] Dental occlusal splints are devices worn to correct the alignment of teeth and jaw position, such as orthodontic mouthpieces and aligners, devices worn on the teeth to prevent tooth wear due to teeth grinding, and mouthguards worn in the oral cavity to reduce trauma caused by large external forces applied to the teeth and jawbone during contact sports and to protect the stomatognathic system and brain. In recent years, the use of orthodontic devices has rapidly expanded due to their aesthetic appeal and the ability to be removed whenever desired.

[0008] Denture base materials are materials used in the gum area when wearing dentures due to tooth loss. In recent years, the demand for dentures has increased dramatically due to the increase in the elderly population.

[0009] A device for treating sleep apnea syndrome is an apparatus (oral appliance: OA) that is attached to the teeth while sleeping at night to treat obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS), and its use is rapidly increasing.

[0010] Dental materials, particularly dental occlusal splints, denture base materials, and OAs, are commonly required to have strength, toughness, water resistance, and color tone. Low strength leads to significant deflection and deformation during use, resulting in an uncomfortable fit. Loss of toughness leads to problems such as increased susceptibility to breakage due to occlusal loads and deformation during use, necessitating frequent remaking. Loss of water resistance also leads to problems such as a decline in mechanical properties during use, resulting in increased susceptibility to deformation and breakage during use, making the material unsuitable for practical use.

[0011] Furthermore, oral impressions are typically required when producing dental occlusal splints, denture base materials, and sleep apnea treatment devices. However, these procedures pose challenges, such as the discomfort they cause to patients and the need for skilled technicians. In recent years, advances in digital technology have led to the application of optical intraoral scanning for impression taking and the use of optical 3D modeling for molding. Photocurable resin compositions are typically used in modeling, but the stronger a resin composition is, the more brittle it tends to become. On the other hand, attempts to impart toughness (i.e., flexibility) to a resin composition result in a flexible molecular structure that allows for moisture penetration, leading to not only a decrease in strength but also the significant problem of photopolymerization initiator degradation products leaching. In particular, dental materials using materials for stereolithography require the incorporation of large amounts of photopolymerization initiator due to the extremely short light exposure time compared to dental materials not designed for stereolithography. Consequently, the large amount of photopolymerization initiator can sometimes cause yellowing. The problems of elution from the cured product and color tone such as discoloration and yellowing are particularly important, and it has been difficult to fully satisfy these properties, including toughness and water resistance.

[0012] Against this background, Patent Document 1, for example, discloses a photopolymerizable resin composition containing a hydrogen abstraction photopolymerization initiator having an ethylenically unsaturated group, as a technology for obtaining a cured product that is excellent in mechanical properties and transparency, does not bleed out, and is highly safe.

[0013] International Publication No. 2023 / 074620

[0014] However, the photopolymerization initiator described in Patent Document 1 is difficult to obtain, and there are concerns about storage stability because it contains a polymerizable group. Furthermore, Patent Document 1 does not describe the strength and toughness of the cured product of the photopolymerizable resin composition, and the inventors have conducted research and found that there is room for improvement.

[0015] Therefore, an object of the present invention is to provide a dental polymerizable composition that is excellent in toughness and water resistance and produces little eluate, and a stereolithography material comprising the dental polymerizable composition.

[0020] The dental polymerizable composition of the present invention contains a polyfunctional (meth)acrylic polymerizable compound (A) and a photopolymerization initiator (B) that does not contain a phosphine oxide skeleton.

[0021] [Polyfunctional (meth)acrylic polymerizable compound (A)] In the dental polymerizable composition of the present invention, the polyfunctional (meth)acrylic polymerizable compound (A) is used to impart curability to the dental polymerizable composition by combining it with the photopolymerization initiator (B), thereby imparting strength and toughness to the cured product. The polyfunctional (meth)acrylic polymerizable compound (A) preferably contains a polyfunctional (meth)acrylic polymerizable compound (A)-I having a molecular weight of less than 1,000 (also simply referred to as the "polyfunctional (meth)acrylic polymerizable compound (A)-I") and / or a polyfunctional (meth)acrylic polymerizable compound (A)-II having a molecular weight of 1,000 or more (also simply referred to as the "polyfunctional (meth)acrylic polymerizable compound (A)-II"). [0090] The dental polymerizable composition of the present invention is not only easily curable, but also exhibits excellent strength, toughness, and water resistance of the cured product, and produces little leachable material. Therefore, the dental polymerizable composition of the present invention can be used in applications that utilize these advantages, such as intraoral applications. Examples of intraoral applications include dental materials such as dental adhesives, dental cements, dental filling and restorative materials, denture base materials, and dental occlusal splints; and materials for treating sleep disorders (particularly, devices for treating sleep apnea syndrome). The dental polymerizable composition of the present invention is suitable as a material for stereolithography, and is particularly suitable for dental occlusal splints, denture base materials, and devices for treating sleep apnea syndrome, which are fabricated by stereolithography. An example of a preferred embodiment of a dental adhesive is shown below. An example of a preferred embodiment of a dental adhesive is a dental polymerizable composition containing a polyfunctional (meth)acrylic polymerizable compound (A), a photopolymerization initiator (B), a monofunctional (meth)acrylic polymerizable compound (C), and, as optional components, water, a water-soluble organic solvent such as ethanol or acetone, a polymerization accelerator, and an inorganic filler. [0091] The shape of a cured product obtained using the dental polymerizable composition of the present invention can be changed depending on the intended use. Furthermore, the types and contents of the polyfunctional (meth)acrylic polymerizable compound (A), the photopolymerization initiator (B), and various optional components (monofunctional (meth)acrylic polymerizable compound (C), polymerization accelerator, filler, polymer, softener, stabilizer, additive, etc.) can be adjusted as needed for each intended use, such as a dental occlusal splint, a denture base material, or a treatment device for sleep apnea syndrome.

[0092] The dental polymerizable composition of the present invention can be used in a variety of applications by taking advantage of its properties, such as the fact that when cured by light, it can give molded articles or three-dimensional objects, as well as other shaped articles, which have a small volumetric shrinkage rate and excellent dimensional accuracy, and which have excellent strength, toughness, and water resistance when cured. For example, it can be used in the production of three-dimensional objects by optical three-dimensional modeling, the production of various molded articles such as film-like articles or molded articles by casting or casting, and molds for coating and vacuum forming.

[0093] Among these, the dental polymerizable composition of the present invention is suitable for use in the above-mentioned three-dimensional modeling method, and in this case, a three-dimensional model that has excellent dimensional accuracy, toughness, and mechanical properties can be smoothly produced while maintaining a small volumetric shrinkage rate upon photocuring.

[0094] The dental polymerizable composition of the present invention is excellent in strength, toughness, and water resistance, has not too high mechanical properties, has appropriate flexibility, and produces little eluate. Therefore, among intraoral uses, the dental polymerizable composition is particularly suitable for use as an orthodontic mouthpiece or aligner for the purpose of correcting the dentition and / or jaw position, or a dental soft splint such as a sports mouthguard.

[0095] Another embodiment of the present invention is a method for producing a three-dimensional object by photolithography using any of the dental polymerizable compositions described above. The photolithography method is not particularly limited, and a liquid vat photopolymerization method such as a laser-based stereolithography apparatus (SLA) or a digital light processing (DLP)-based SLA can be used. Low Force Stereolithography (LFS) can also be used as the SLA.

[0096] When performing stereolithography using the dental polymerizable composition of the present invention, any known stereolithography method and device (e.g., a stereolithography machine such as DIGITALWAX (registered trademark) 028J-Plus manufactured by DWS) can be used. Among these, in the present invention, it is preferable to use active energy rays as the light energy for curing the resin. "Active energy rays" refers to energy rays capable of curing the dental polymerizable composition, such as ultraviolet rays, electron beams, X-rays, radioactive rays, and high frequency rays. For example, active energy rays may be ultraviolet rays having a wavelength of 300 to 400 nm. Examples of light sources for active energy rays include lasers such as Ar lasers and He—Cd lasers; and lighting such as halogen lamps, xenon lamps, metal halide lamps, LEDs, mercury lamps, and fluorescent lamps. Lasers are particularly preferred. When a laser is used as a light source, it is possible to increase the energy level and shorten the modeling time, and the excellent focusing properties of the laser beam can be utilized to obtain a three-dimensional object with high modeling accuracy.

[0097] As described above, when performing optical three-dimensional modeling using the dental polymerizable composition of the present invention, any known method and known optical modeling system may be used, and there are no particular limitations. However, a representative example of an optical three-dimensional modeling method preferably used in the present invention is a method in which a step of selectively irradiating a dental polymerizable composition with an active energy ray to form a cured layer having a desired pattern, followed by a lamination step of supplying an uncured liquid dental polymerizable composition to the cured layer and similarly irradiating it with an active energy ray to form a new cured layer continuous with the cured layer, is repeated to finally obtain the desired three-dimensional object. The three-dimensional object obtained thereby may be used as is, or, in some cases, may be further post-cured by light irradiation or heat to further improve its mechanical properties or shape stability, etc., before use.

[0098] The structure, shape, size, etc. of a three-dimensional object obtained by the optical three-dimensional modeling method are not particularly limited and can be determined depending on the respective applications. Typical applications of the optical three-dimensional modeling method of the present invention include the production of models for verifying the appearance design during the design process, models for checking the functionality of parts, resin molds for producing casting molds, base models for producing metal molds, and direct molds for prototype molds. More specifically, examples include the production of models or processing models for precision parts, electrical parts, electronic parts, furniture, architectural structures, automotive parts, various containers, castings, metal molds, master molds, etc. In particular, the excellent strength and toughness of the molded objects of the dental polymerizable composition can be utilized to extremely effectively use them in applications such as cushioning materials with complex shapes in structures (e.g., architectural structures), vacuum forming molds, etc.

[0099] Next, the present invention will be explained in more detail by way of examples, but the present invention is not limited to these examples in any way, and many modifications can be made by a person having ordinary skill in the art within the scope of the technical idea of the present invention.

[0111] [Examples 1 to 13 and Comparative Examples 1 and 2] Dental polymerizable compositions according to Examples 1 to 13 and Comparative Examples 1 and 2 were prepared by mixing the components in the amounts (parts by mass) shown in Tables 1 and 2 at room temperature (20°C ± 15°C, JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards) Z 8703:1983).

[0112] The resulting dental polymerizable composition was used to fabricate a test piece (length 64.0 mm, width 10.0 mm, thickness 3.3 mm) having the dimensions described in 6.4 of JDMAS 253:2020 (Photopolymerizable resin for 3D printers for dental hard splints) using a stereolithography machine (DIGITALWAX® 020D manufactured by DWS). Various tests were performed on this test piece as a cured product of the dental polymerizable composition.

[0113] <Strength (Flexural Modulus, Flexural Strength), Toughness (Flexural Displacement at Break)> For the cured products of the dental polymerizable compositions according to each Example and Comparative Example, after storage in air for one day, strength (flexural modulus, flexural strength) and toughness (flexural displacement at break) were measured. Measurements were performed using a universal testing machine (Shimadzu Corporation, Autograph AG-I 100kN) at a fulcrum distance of 50 mm and a crosshead speed of 5 mm / min (n=5) in accordance with JDMAS 253:2020 (Photopolymerizable Resins for 3D Printers for Dental Hard Splints). The flexural strength test was performed in accordance with 6.4. The measurements were performed using a universal testing machine (Shimadzu Corporation, Autograph AG-I 100kN) at a fulcrum distance of 50 mm and a crosshead speed of 5 mm / min (n=5). The average values of the measured values are shown in Tables 1 and 2. The flexural modulus is preferably in the range of 300 MPa to less than 2000 MPa, more preferably 400 MPa to 1500 MPa, and even more preferably 500 MPa to 1000 MPa, because these compositions are particularly suitable for use as dental occlusal splints. The bending strength (three-point bending strength) is preferably 10 MPa or more, more preferably 15 MPa or more, and even more preferably 20 MPa or more. As for the displacement at break, it is preferable that no break occurs. The displacement at break is evaluated according to the following criteria, with "A" (good toughness) and "B" (moderate toughness) being considered acceptable. <Evaluation criteria> A: The cured product broke with a displacement of 15 mm or more. B: The cured product broke with a displacement of more than 10 mm but less than 15 mm. C: The cured product broke with a displacement of 10 mm or less.

[0114] <Water Resistance> The cured products of the dental polymerizable compositions according to each Example and Comparative Example were immersed in water at 37°C for 168 hours, and then the flexural strength was measured in the same manner as in the flexural strength test (n=5). The average values of the measured values are shown in Tables 1 and 2. When the flexural strength measurement result (unit: MPa) in the flexural strength test above is taken as the "initial flexural strength," the flexural strength after storage in air for one day and then immersion in water at 37°C for 168 hours is considered to be excellent in water resistance if the change rate (decrease rate) in flexural strength shown below is 20% or less. In Tables 1 and 2, the flexural strength after immersion in water at 37°C for 168 hours is referred to as the "flexural strength after immersion." Change rate (decrease rate) in flexural strength (%) = [{initial flexural strength (MPa) - flexural strength after immersion in water at 37°C for 168 hours (MPa)} / initial flexural strength (MPa)] × 100

[0115] <Dissolution Properties> The obtained dental polymerizable composition was used to form disks with a diameter of 15 mm and a thickness of 1.0 mm using a stereolithography machine (DIGITALWAX (registered trademark) 020D, manufactured by DWS). One of the obtained disks was immersed in 2.0 ml of ethanol at 50°C for 72 hours in a 10 ml glass bottle, after which the disk was removed, the ethanol was distilled off, and the mass of the extract was measured (n = 1). The obtained extract was dissolved in THF, and the main components were identified using GC-MS (apparatus: GCMS-QP2010 Ultra, manufactured by Shimadzu Corporation; column: Ultra ALLOY-1, inner diameter 0.25 mm, length 15 m, film thickness 0.15 μm, manufactured by Frontier Labs).

Furthermore, when the eluted substances from the objects formed using the dental polymerizable compositions of Examples 1 to 13 were analyzed by GC-MS, the detected amounts were small, making it difficult to identify the components. Meanwhile, trimethylbenzaldehyde, trimethylbenzoic acid, and diphenylphosphine derivatives were detected as eluted substances from the objects formed using the dental polymerizable compositions of Comparative Examples 1 and 2. This confirms that the dental polymerizable compositions of Examples 1 to 13 had significantly lower levels of eluted substances and were therefore safer than the dental polymerizable compositions of Comparative Examples 1 and 2.

[0119] The dental polymerizable composition of the present invention has excellent strength, toughness, and water resistance when cured, and produces little elution from the cured product, and is therefore ideal for intraoral applications such as various dental materials (particularly dental occlusal splints and denture base materials produced by stereolithography) or various sleep disorder treatment materials (particularly treatment devices for sleep apnea syndrome).
