CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS
[0001] This application claims the benefit of priority from Chinese Patent Application No. 202510674079.4, filed on May 23, 2025. The content of the aforementioned application, including any intervening amendments made thereto, is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.TECHNICAL FIELD
[0002] This application relates to tunnel engineering, and more particularly to a shield cutterhead for cutting a diaphragm wall with a steel I-beam.BACKGROUND
[0003] With the continuous development of urban subway construction, newly built subway lines frequently pass beneath existing subway lines, especially in subway transfer stations where shield tunneling is widely used to traverse beneath the existing subway lines. Due to various reasons, many existing stations were not designed to accommodate shield tunneling underneath. In particular, the underground diaphragm walls with I-beam joints cast in existing stations pose significant obstacles to new shield tunneling projects.
[0004] Current solutions typically involve constructing clearance wells to manually break down and backfill the diaphragm walls before allowing the shield machine to pass through. However, these methods face significant challenges due to surrounding environments, existing pipelines, and ground traffic diversion, resulting in high construction difficulty, substantial costs, prolonged schedules, and elevated safety risks. Although there have been successful cases in China where shield machines traversed diaphragm walls without I-beam joints, issues such as severe cutter wear, excessively long cutting steel bars, and steel bar entanglement around the cutterhead remain prevalent. These problems need to stop the machine opening the cutterhead chamber for tool inspection and replacement, causing construction delays and increased risks.
[0005] To date, there are no domestic cases or experiences regarding shield tunneling directly through diaphragm walls with I-beam steel joints. When the shield machine directly traverses the diaphragm walls with I-beam steel joints, it is highly prone to tool damage and cutterhead jamming caused by large I-beam sections. Conventional cutterhead and tool configurations face multiple challenges, including low cutting efficiency, rapid tool wear, inability to effectively cut I-beam steels, and failure to efficiently transport overly long I-beam steels and steel bars into the soil chamber. Moreover, excessively long steel bars and I-beam steels risk jamming the screw conveyor, further hindering shield tunneling progress.SUMMARY
[0006] To address the aforementioned problems, this application provides a shield cutterhead for cutting a diaphragm wall with a steel I-beam. The concept involves the composite multi-tiered conical cutterhead that employs roller cutters as the primary cutting tools while rationally configuring other tools such as ripper cutters, thereby addressing the challenge of insufficient capability in cutting I-beams when the shield machine traverses diaphragm walls with steel I-beams.

[0040] Compared to the prior art, the present disclosure has the following beneficial effects.
[0041] 1. Through the composite multi-tiered conical cutterhead design and the rational configuration of various tools such as roller cutters and ripper blades in graded heights, the shield machine can break through underground diaphragm walls and cut I-beams and reinforcing bars. This ensures the feasibility of shield tunneling beneath existing stations with diaphragm walls with steel I-beams, significantly reducing construction cycles and costs.
[0042] 2. The multi-tiered conical cutterhead design achieves stepwise cutting of reinforced concrete and I-beams from the center outward. Uncut sections are rolled and curled toward the edge of the cutterhead body under the action of the roller cutters and eventually discharged outside the tunnel, effectively preventing large steel plates from obstructing excavation. This approach solves the problem that while shield tunneling through the diaphragm walls with steel I-beams, the rear I-beam flange plates cannot be cut properly due to insufficient support, and large I-beam sections jam the cutterhead.
[0043] 3. The tool arrangement of the conical cutterhead provides extremely high cutting performance, durability, and reliability of the cutters. It not only effectively addresses the lack of endurance in ripper cutters but also resolves the problem of ineffective segmentation and cutting of large sections fallen from the bottom flange of I-beams, thereby realizing continuous cutting through multiple diaphragm walls without tool replacement.
[0044] 4. The conical cutterhead configuration combines roller cutters, modified ripper blades, scrapers, and cutting knives, thereby ensuring the cutting length of I-beam plates and reinforcing bars within a preset range, while extensively using rippers to replace roller cutters, thereby reducing the overall weight of the cutterhead. The design also maintains the ability to excavate in soft soil and directly cut through concrete diaphragm walls with steel I-beams. The design is also capable of traversing composite ground conditions and reduces the risk that the shield machine falls head down during tunneling through soft soil areas.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
