[0002] Swimming is the skill in which a person floats under the buoyancy of water, and the body regularly moves in the water through limbs by virtue of the buoyancy. A person may float in a body of water where the person may move through the water via changes to the body of water such as, but not limiting to, pool jets in a pool, water current, waves from another person interacting with the body of water, or any other water movement caused directly or indirectly, or any combination thereof. Swimming can enhance cardiac muscle function, the resistance, and the lung function of a human body, and is one of the most effective means for losing weight.

[0003] Swimming can aid in enhancing cardiovascular health, conditioning, and strengthening of muscles in the body, building confidence, improving mental health. Swimming as a sport is becoming more popular, the need for swimming lessons continue to grow. As aquatic activities are becoming more popular some people may want to learn how to swim. However, fear of water is a common phenomenon for persons who do not know how to swim and in some cases aquaphobia. As a person learns how to swim or enter into any body of water, they may experience discomfort, panic, or fear. This may be readily apparent in many children and adults when learning how to swim.BRIEF SUMMARY

[0004] Examples of the present disclosure relate generally to apparatuses for a water flotation device, more particularly to a portable float, especially adopted for use by infants, young children, and adults in swimming pools, lakes, or other bodies of water. Adults can use the water floatation device as an education and recreational resource tool.

[0005] Apparatuses are described for a flotation device that may safely support an infant, young child, or adult, in a body of water. The flotation device may include one or more buoyant structures that form an arch or a tunnel at which may be associated with an infant, young child, or adult. The flotation device may comprise one or more anchors. One or more elongated tubes, each having both ends, may be secured to the anchors, wherein the anchors may provide weight to the floatation device. The one or more elongated tubes may extend above a user (e.g., an infant, small child, or adult), creating an arch from one anchor to another. At the top of the arc, the floatation device may further comprise an item, such as but not limited to, a mirror, a toy, or any object or any combination thereof that may distract, ease, or entertain the user.

The swimming aid 10 is preferably configured in an arch or tunnel shape, but it can also be any other shape such as a square, triangle, or the like. In some examples the swimming aid 10 may comprise only one opening on a first end or a second end of the swimming aid 10, thus creating a dome like structure associated with the one or more tubes 14, wherein one side of the flotation device may not allow the user to see through the device. Tubes 14 and anchors 12 may be configured to be positioned on opposite sides of the user. In some examples, the tubes 14 may be comprised of swim noodles, rubber, plastic, or any other suitable material.

In some examples, anchors 12 may be attached to swimming aid 10 via a rope, string, wire apparatus, hook and loop fasteners, or any other attachment mechanism or any combination thereof. In some examples, the attachment associated with anchors 12 to swimming aid 10 may be customizable and variable in length. In some examples, the distance between each side of tubes 14 may be variable and customizable to allow for maximum open area 20 for freedom of movement of the user's body, for example, a user of longer length may require a greater distance between tubes 14 than a user who is shorter.

[0022] Swimming aid 10 is designed so as to be unobtrusive to the user, thereby providing the user with maximum open area 20 for freedom of movement of the user's limbs while also safely supporting them on the water's surface. In some examples, the height of swimming aid 10 may be variable and customizable based on a length associated with the attachment of anchors 12 to swimming aid 10. For example, the top of swimming aid 10 may be closer to the water's surface or submerged in the body of water when the length of the attachment associated with anchors 12 is less than the depth of the body of water.

These anchors 12 may comprise one or more steel nonporous loads, sand, or any other objects to add weight to swimming aid 10 to allow for adjustability of the level at which the swimming aid 10 may sit on the water. In some other examples, anchors 12 may be made of a solid buoyant material, such as but not limited to foam, rubber, plastic, wood, steel, or any combination thereof. In some other examples, anchors 12 may further comprise one or more nonporous loads, wherein anchors 12 may be attached, via braces 16 or physically connected to tubes 14, to add weight to the swimming aid 10. For example, the one or more weights may be a bag of sand, steel nonporous load, or any other material that is not buoyant and can add weight to swimming aid 10 for height adjustment associated with the height of the swimming aid 10 above the water surface. Anchors 12 may be configured to or positioned to unnoticeably submerge one or more portions of tubes 14 into the body of water. In some alternate examples, tubes 14 may be fixed to prevent floating or movement of swimming aid 10 via the weight associated with anchors 12. An example, anchors 12 associated with swimming aid 10 may be illustrated with FIG. 4A, FIG. 4B, and FIG. 4C. Fixed tubes 14 may prevent the movement of swimming aid 10 such that when the swimming aid 10 may experience motion or movement associated with the water the swimming aid 10 may not move.

[0025] Tubes 14 may aid in providing buoyance to swimming aid 10. These tubes 14 may be made of tubing, including hollow tubing, such as plastic piping, or they may include foam (e.g., polyurethane foam or any other suitable foam) covered supports (e.g., the supports being solid or hollow with the foam providing the necessary buoyancy). Tubes 14 may further block a view of the sky from the user. In some examples, tubes 14 may contain a metal rod in the hollow portion of tube 14 where the metal rod may extend from a first end of the tube 14 to a second end of tube 14. In such examples, the metal rod may create and maintain the curve or shape of swimming aid 10.

Tubes 14 may comprise one or more parallel tubes 15, wherein one or more parallel tubes 15 are positioned and configured to be parallel to the body of water to aid in the surface area of swimming aid 10, thus increasing the buoyancy of swimming aid 10.

In some examples, tubes 14 may be of many different bright colors to further help calm or ease the emotions of the user to allow for an easier method of teaching users how to swim.

For example, item 18 may be attached to swimming aid 10 via hook and loop fasteners to allow for variability and customization of the placement of item 18. In some other examples, item 18 may be attached to swimming aid 10 via a pole, wherein the pole may be comprised of any suitable material and be of any suitable length such that the item 18 may be positioned above or below the water's surface. The pole may also be attached to the swimming aid 10 via braces 16. In another example, item 18 may be attached to swimming aid 10 via a rope, string, or wire apparatus that may act as a pulley system such that the item 18 may be ratcheted up or down for customization and variability of the positioning of item 18 relative to the water's surface. For example, as shown in FIG. 2 a pull apparatus 22 may be utilized to attach item 18 to the swimming aid 10.

[0030] In the example of FIG. 3, the item 18 may be above the user (e.g., infant, small child, or adult) or at the peak of the arch formed by the tubes 14 to help the user remain calm during learning how to swim using the backstroke technique. In an example, item 18 may be moved based on the swimming technique the user is learning or practicing. In an example, item 18 may be positioned closer to the water's surface and to one side of swimming aid 10 for when the user is practicing sidestroke swimming techniques, wherein the item 18 is positioned so that the user may view item 18. In another example, item 18 may be positioned toward the front end of swimming aid 10 and closer to the water surface when the user may be practicing floating (e.g., floating upward or floating downward), wherein the item 18 is positioned so that the user may view item 18. In an alternate example, where swimming aid 10 is attached to the user, item 18 may be positioned toward the front end of the swimming aid 10 and closer to the water surface when the user may be practicing breaststroke or butterfly swimming techniques, wherein the item 18 is positioned so that the user may view item 18. In yet another example, there may be two items 18 positioned on opposite sides of swimming aid 10 and closer to the water surface when the user is practicing freestyle swimming techniques, wherein each of the items 18 are positioned so that the user may view items 18 (e.g., item 18 on the left side of swimming aid 10 or item 18 on the right side of swimming aid 10) as the user floats or swims.

[0031] In some examples the tubes 14 may include hollow tubing, such as plastic piping, or they can include foam covered supports (e.g., the supports being solid or hollow with the foam providing the necessary buoyancy). The length of the tubes 14 may aid in the customization or variability in the distance between anchors 12 or opposite side of tubes 14 allowing for maximum area 20 for a user (e.g., infant, small child, or adult) to move. It is preferable for anchors 12 or tubes 14 to be wrapped or enclosed within a soft outer foam 13 so as to protect the user (as well as others) from injury. Such a soft outer foam padding may be desired so that anchors 12 or tubes 14 may be hit or kicked without harming the user. Anchors 12, tubes 14, and braces 16 may be wrapped in or made of any suitable material, such as but not limiting to, rubber, foam, or any other suitable material. to protect the materials of swimming aid 10 from warping due to consistent use in water. The use of a sturdy but flexible foam or the like as described herein may allow for swimming aid 10 to maintain its shape and not shift or distort.

[0032] Anchors 12 may be connected to tubes 14, as illustrated in FIG. 4A. The left side view 41 and the right-side view 42, of FIG. 4A, of the swimming aid 10 may illustrate a connection between the tubes 14 and anchors 12. The connection between tubes 14 and anchors 12 may be facilitated by a series of braces 16. Further braces 16 may connect each of the one or more tubes 14 together to minimize spacing between each of the tubes 14. The braces 16 may be constructed of any material such as but not limited to the same material as tubes 14, zip ties, plastic, or any other suitable material. In some examples, braces 16, anchors 12, or tubes 14 may be bolted, glued, welded, or otherwise secured together depending upon the material from which anchors 12, tubes 14, or braces 16 are constructed.

Swimming aid 10 may utilize braces 16 to otherwise avoid the tendency of tubes 14 to flatten out, depending on the material. For example, swimming aid 10, may comprise tubes 14 and anchors 12 made of rubber, wherein the surface area of the rubber may allow for floating on a water's surface. In many instances, rubber has a tendency to stretch back to its intended position or manufactured positioning, wherein the use of braces 16 may maintain the shape necessary for swimming aid 10, whether that shape is an arc, square, triangle, or any other suitable shape. It is contemplated that braces 16 may be attached to other braces 16 to further increase rigidity and connectiveness of swimming aid 10.

In an example, swimming aid 10 may be configured to float on the surface of the water above the user, where a helper may move swimming aid 10 to stay above the view of the user. In this example, the configuration of the anchors 12 and tubes 14 as seen in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the large area 20 between the anchors 12 may remain open and unobstructed, thereby enabling the user to swim or otherwise use their limbs for play or exercise and enable a helper to aid the user in the water.

Although, while swimming aid 10 is ideal for use by an infant or small child, it may also be successfully used by any person, regardless of age.

At box 1, a manufacturer (e.g., a user, a helper, or the like or any combination thereof) may tie together a group of tubes comprising one or more tubes 14, via braces 16. In an example, the one or more tubes 14 of the group of tubes may be tied in a manner such that the one or tubes 14 are tied along a shorter horizontal end. In some examples, the manufacturer may utilize a number of braces 16 at a number of different places or points along the one or more tubes 14, such as the braces 16 may be tied at a first end and a second end associated with the one or more tubes 14 of the group of tubes, braces 16 at a middle point associated with the one or more tubes 14, or braces 16 at equidistant places along the length of the one or more tubes 14. In some examples a particular number of tubes 14 may be tied together before all of the one or more tubes 14 of the group of tubes are tied together. For example, two tubes 14 may be tied together before those two tubes 14 are tied to more tubes 14 of the group of tubes. In some examples, the one or more tubes 14 may be of many different bright colors to help distract the user (e.g., infant, small child, or adult).

The sets of tubes (e.g., parallel tubes 15) may be tied, via braces 16, any number of times to ensure support or connection between each set of tubes and the group of tubes. In an example, it is contemplated that the steps of box 1 and box 2 may be performed in any suitable order, e.g., a manufacturer may tie the one or more of a first set of tubes and a second set of tubes together prior to tying together the one or more tubes 14 of the group of tubes.

[0041] Swimming aid 10 may be utilized to aid with the learning process by improving a user's technique, strength, and confidence while in a body of water. The swimming aid 10 may further provide a resource for instructors to use to help with a more efficient learning session, e.g., more efficient swimming lessons. It is contemplated that although many of the practical applications described in the disclosure may reflect or refer to swimming lessons, the swimming aid 10 may be utilized for any suitable purpose, such as but not limited to a recreational tool for all ages to enjoy.

[0042] At box 2, anchors 12 may be attached to the swimming aid 10 (e.g., one or more tubes 14 or one or more parallel tubes 15), via braces 16 or any other suitable apparatus or material, to add weight and / or stability to swimming aid 10. The method at which anchors 12 may be attached may allow for variability and adaptability of the position associated with the anchors 12 relative to length of the one or more tubes 14 and the weight associated with anchors 12. It is contemplated that anchors 12 may be attached to swimming aid 10 such that the anchors may be in contact with the bottom of a body of water, e.g., a pool.

In some alternate examples, the method of manufacture 5 may also comprise attaching a rope or any other form of attachment to the swimming aid 10, wherein the rope may be configured to attach to the user or a helper such that when a user swims or floats the swimming aid 10 may move with the user. It is to be contemplated that any step or moment in the method of manufacture 5 may occur in any order suitable to the swimming aid 10.

1. A flotation device comprising:one or more anchors, wherein the anchors limit a level for which the flotation device may float in a body of water;one or more tubes, wherein each end of the one or more tubes are secured via one or more braces to one of the one or more anchors; andan item attached to at least one of the one or more tubes, wherein the item is selected to mitigate a fear associated with use of the floatation device.

2. The flotation device of claim 1, wherein the one or more anchors and the one or more tubes form an arch.

3. The flotation device of claim 1, wherein the one or more anchors and the one or more tubes form a tunnel shape.

4. The flotation device of claim 2, wherein the arch comprises at least two openings.

5. The flotation device of claim 3, wherein the tunnel-shape comprises at least two openings.

6. The flotation device of claim 1, wherein the floatation device comprises hollow tubes.

7. The flotation device of claim 1, wherein the floatation device comprises solid tubes.

16. The method of claim 14, wherein the one or more anchors and the one or more tubes are surrounded by soft padding comprised of a material that resists warping due to exposure to water.

17. The method of claim 14, wherein the one or more tubes are selected from the group of hollow piping, hollow tubing, solid piping, and solid tubing.
