Abstract
Description
[0001] AN ADDRESS REFERENCING SYSTEM AND METHOD
[0002] Technical Field
[0003] The invention relates to an address referencing system and method designed for use in the communication sector, which reformats coordinate data obtained from global positioning systems (GPS) into unique words such as color or other memorable names. This system makes it easier for users to remember and share location information.
[0004] Background of the Art
[0005] GPS technology has become indispensable in the modern age. Location sharing, map applications, and navigation systems have been integrated into our daily lives. GPS coordinates allow for the precise determination of any point on Earth. However, sharing and remembering these coordinates present some disadvantages.
[0006] Long and Complex Codes: GPS coordinates are usually expressed as a long and complex numerical sequence. For example, a location like 40.7128° N, 74.0060° W requires four separate numbers. Such codes are difficult for people to remember and prone to errors when written. Compared to addresses, street names, and numbers are more understandable and easier to remember.
[0007] No Visual Image: GPS coordinates make it challenging to comprehend the exact location visually. For example, "40.7128° N, 74.0060° W does not directly convey a visual image of where that point is. In contrast, an expression like "Istanbul, Taksim Square" immediately creates a location image in people's minds.
[0008] Language and Cultural Barriers: Coordinates, being numerical expressions, struggle to overcome language and cultural barriers. People use multiple words and symbols in different languages and cultures to express the exact location. This makes international communication and understanding among travelers difficult. Error-Prone Copying and Sharing: Complex coordinate information increases the likelihood of errors during the copying and sharing processes. An incorrect digit or wrong direction information can lead a person to an entirely different place. Such errors can have serious consequences in emergencies or disrupt planned events. Additionally, in social media applications, the location information users share is address-based. If the shared location is not close to an address like a street or door number, applications take the middle of the neighborhood as a reference. In the map program used by the recipient, if there is no address information or only a neighborhood / district / village name is shared, it can lead the person to the middle of that area.
[0009] Difficulty in Updates: Maps and address systems are updated and changed over time. Coordinates remain fixed. Address changes are usually updated in a central database, whereas coordinates must be changed manually. This makes it difficult to keep track of updates in a coordinate-based system, leading to incorrect addressing.
[0010] In newly established settlements without street names, existing but unaddressed places (bridges, transformers, parks, mines, open areas like fields, meadows, etc.), temporary areas created due to disasters like earthquakes without addresses or with very rough addresses, and very long routes or wide areas (such as Taksim or Kizilay Square) complicate communication and access.
[0011] In conclusion, while GPS coordinates are helpful for precise location determination, they are not practical for addressing and location sharing. Their length, complexity, and difficulty in remembering lead to errors and incomprehensible expressions among people. Considering these disadvantages, there is a need to develop more user-friendly and understandable addressing systems.
[0012] Therefore, due to the aforementioned disadvantages and the inadequacy of existing solutions, it has been deemed necessary to develop an improvement in the relevant technical field.
[0013] The objective of the Invention
[0014] The primary objective of the invention is to transform GPS coordinates into user-friendly addresses, enabling people to communicate more efficiently, and with more memorable information about locations. Instead of complex numerical sequences, the system uses more familiar and understandable words, such as colors and names, to define addresses. This way, people will no longer need to remember or write down GPS coordinates while navigating or sharing addresses in their daily lives.
[0015] It is a fact that addressing systems are constantly changing and need to be updated. In cases such as constructing new buildings, opening roads, or naming changes, address information is updated. Another significant objective of the invention is to track address changes automatically. Thus, the mobile application synchronizes with continuously updated databases, directing users to accurate and up-to-date addresses.
[0016] GPS technology is widely used globally, and people can share GPS coordinates while traveling or communicating in different countries. However, due to language and cultural barriers, coordinates can cause difficulties in international communication. The invention aims to ensure international compatibility by making addresses more easily understandable. People in different languages and cultures can use the same words to express the same address.
[0017] Since GPS coordinates are complex numerical sequences, they can create data storage and processing difficulties. This invention facilitates data storage and processing using shorter more understandable addresses. Users and systems can obtain more information with less data. Additionally, this new addressing system occupies less space in databases and applications, enabling them to operate more efficiently.
[0018] Another objective of the invention is to create a universal addressing system. Urban and rural areas worldwide can be addressed using this new system. As a result, people can be easily located anywhere, and disagreements or misdirections in shared addresses can be prevented.
[0019] In conclusion, this invention, which converts GPS coordinates into addresses, aims to establish a user-friendly, up-to-date, and universal addressing system. Considering the importance of GPS technology in our daily lives, this invention can be seen as a significant step towards developing an easier, more memorable, and more understandable addressing system. [0029] Detailed Description of the Invention
[0030] In this detailed description, the preferred embodiments of the invention are explained solely to facilitate a better understanding of the subject without imposing any limiting effects.
[0031] Referring to Figure-1 , the invention comprises at least one mobile device (2) capable of receiving and utilizing GPS location data, at least one positioning chip (2.2) that receives GPS signals from positioning satellites (1) and determines the real-time location of the mobile device (2), at least one database (4) where letters, colors, city names, or names that will mask the coordinate data of cities, streets, buildings, and other locations to be addressed are stored, at least one location algorithm (3) that matches the received GPS coordinates with the addressing information in the database (4), masking the coordinate numbers with variables such as letters, colors, city names, or names and re-addressing them, and at least one location application (2.1) receives the re-addressed coordinate information from the location algorithm (3) and presents it to the user. To explain these components in order:
[0032] Positioning satellites (1) are structures orbiting and capable of precisely determining locations on Earth. These satellites (1) help mobile devices (2) determine their location by sending GPS signals. GPS satellites identify locations in different regions of the Earth's surface and transmit this information to mobile devices (2).
[0033] Mobile devices (2) are smartphones, tablets, or other portable devices capable of receiving and utilizing GPS location data. These devices (2) have the necessary applications and hardware to convert location data into user-friendly addresses.
[0034] A location application (2.1) running on mobile devices (2) receives GPS coordinates via the positioning chip (2.2) and processes these coordinates through the location algorithm (3) to convert them into addresses. The location application (2.1) interacts with the information in the database (4) to present understandable and memorable addresses to the user.
[0035] A positioning chip (2.2) inside the mobile devices (2) receives GPS signals from positioning satellites (1) and determines the real-time location of the device (2). This chip (2.2) captures signals from GPS satellites and determines the GPS coordinates of the mobile device (2). The obtained GPS coordinates are sent to the location application (2.1), initiating the address conversion process.
[0036] The invention uses a specific location algorithm (3) to convert GPS coordinates into addresses. The location algorithm (3) matches the received GPS coordinates with the addressing information in the database (4) to determine the most appropriate and understandable address. This algorithm (3) selects user-friendly words instead of complex addresses to provide easy-to-understand addresses.
[0037] The database (4) forms the basis of the invention's working principle, and contains various addressing information. This database (4) includes information such as the names and numbers of cities, streets, buildings, and other locations. The location algorithm (3) converts GPS coordinates into addresses by matching them with the information in this database (4).
[0038] The working method of the invention involves the mobile device (2) receiving coordinate information from positioning satellites (1) via the positioning chip (2.2), the coordinate information being sent to the location algorithm (3) via the location application (2.1), the location algorithm (3) matching the coordinate information with the address information in the database (4), re-addressing the matched address information by masking the coordinate numbers with variables such as colors or names and presenting the masked address information to the user via the location application (2.1).
[0039] The user runs the location application (2.1) on the mobile device (2) and uses the positioning chip (2.2) to receive GPS coordinates. The positioning chip (2.2) captures signals from the positioning satellites (1) and determines the real-time location of the mobile device (2). The obtained GPS coordinates are processed by the location algorithm (3) and matched with the addressing information in the database (4). The location algorithm (3) determines the most appropriate and memorable address and presents it to the user. Thus, the user does not need to remember or share complex GPS coordinates and can navigate or communicate more easily using more understandable addresses.
[0040] An example of the comprehensibility of this system is as follows:
[0041] Example: 1
[0042] For the coordinate (X) 33.1723, 39.4254 according to GPS:
[0043] The 33.1723 coordinate is split as 33 17 23.
[0044] 33 > A Letter (I) or a Color or a City (Ankara)
[0045] 17 > Ali > (100 known male names from 00 to 99)
[0046] 23 > Can, with a preference for short names.
[0047] The result will be “I Ali Can” or “Ankara Ali Can.”
[0048] Example: 2
[0049] For the coordinate 39.4254:
[0050] 39 > A Number (5) or a Name or a City
[0051] 42 > A girl’s name Ece > 100 known short girl names
[0052] 54 > A girl’s name Elif > 100 known short girl names
[0053] The result will be “5 Ece Elif.”
[0054] It does not matter what the variable is masked with. It can be names, colors, objects, etc. The important thing is to choose memorable words and match them with coordinates. In conclusion, this address referencing system (A) converts GPS coordinates into addresses and allows users to communicate with more easily understandable and memorable information about locations. Combining the power of GPS technology with the addressing information in the database (4) successfully completes the transformation into user-friendly addresses. This enables people to navigate more easily and effectively, share, and communicate with others daily.
