[0044] AI, at least including machine learning (ML) is used to learn and perform certain tasks via training neural networks (NNs) with vast amounts of data, which is successfully applied in computer vison (CV) and nature language processing (NLP) areas. Deep learning, which is a subordinate concept of ML, utilizes multi-layered NNs as an “AI model” to learn how to solve problems and / or optimize performance from vast amounts of data. If AI models used on AI-based methods are well trained, the AI-based methods can obtain better performance than the traditional methods. Thus, 3rd generation partnership program (3GPP) has been considering to introduce AI into 3GPP since 2016, e.g., for UE positioning in wireless communication, which is also referred to as AI / ML based positioning.

[0045] Regarding AI / ML based positioning, it includes direct AI / ML positioning and AI / ML assisted positioning. For direct AI / ML positioning, there are two LMF-side model cases, e.g., Cases 2b and 3b. Regarding Case 2b, it is related to UE-assisted / LMF-based positioning with LMF-side model, direct AI / ML positioning. Regarding Case 3b, it is related to next generation (NG) -radio access network (RAN) node assisted positioning with LMF-side model, direct AI / ML positioning. In accordance with 3GPP release (Rel) 19 AI for air interface work item (WI) , it will be supported that an LMF determines UE's location using an AI model operated at LMF side with inputs (e.g., measurement or assisting information) collected from UE or gNB side.

[0046] For example, in order to train an LMF-side model, LMF may initiate an LPP session towards the UE and configures the UE to measure and transmit required training data via LPP messages. In legacy 3GPP specification, both uplink and downlink LPP messages, e.g., containing measurement and / or estimation results for one time positioning estimation are transmitted as non access stratum (NAS) messages piggybacked in UL / DL radio resource control (RRC) messages (e.g., UL / DL information transfer messages) transmitted by SRB2 or SRB1, which may be related to LPP capability exchange, LPP assistance data exchange, or LPP location information exchange etc. exemplary procedures. However, the training data may have more relaxed latency requirements than these legacy LPP message transmissions. Thus, the training data may not need the radio bearer with high priority, e.g., SRB2 or SRB1 etc. A radio bearer with a proper priority for transmitting the training data via LPP messages will improve the network throughout and capability than the legacy solution.

[0047] Although the aforementioned issue is illustrated in view of training data collection via LPP messages, the LMF may require UE to report other collected data via LPP messages. Similarly, in some other scenarios, considering the network throughout and capability, LPP messages for carrying the collected data besides training data may not need SRB2 or SRB1 as the legacy LPP message transmissions either.

[0048] Thus, various aspects of the present disclosure propose using a dedicated radio bearer for data collection and reporting by LPP messages. The dedicated radio bearer is a radio bearer different from SRB1, SRB2 and SRB3, and has a lower priority than SRB1, SRB2 and SRB3. An exemplary dedicated radio bearer may be SRB4, or SRB5, or a new  SRB (e.g., SRB6) , or a data radio bearer (DRB) etc., which may be configured by NE, e.g., gNB.

[0049] For example, in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure, LMF or the like may configure UE (which may be a position reference unit (PRU) in some scenarios) to perform data collection and report via a dedicated radio bearer collected data by LPP messages, e.g., periodically, or one-time (also referred to as on-demand) , or in an event-triggered manner. The data collection and report configuration information configured by LMF may be transmitted by an LPP message. The collected data may be used by LMF for the sake of AI / ML operations like AI / ML model training, updating and / or monitoring, which has relaxed latency requirements. Exemplary data to be collected and reported may include measurement results, label types, assistance information, or any combination thereof (e.g., combination of measurement results and label types, or combination of measurement results, label types and assistance information etc. ) . Exemplary measurement results may include: uplink (UL) -based or downlink (DL) -based channel impulse response (CIR) , UL-based or DL-based power delay profile (PDP) , UL-based or DL-based delay profile (DP) ; or include: DL-positioning reference signal (PRS) reference signal received power (RSRP) , DL-PRS reference signal received path power (RSRPP) , UL sounding reference signal (SRS) RSRP, or UL SRS RSRPP, DL-reference signal time difference (RSTD) , DL UE receiving (Rx) -transmitting (Tx) time difference, DL gNB Rx-Tx time difference, UL-relative time of arrival (RTOA) , or UL-angle of arrival (AOA) , or DL-AoD, or SS / PBCH Block (SSB) RSRP, channel state information (CSI) -reference signal (RS) RSRP, DL received signal code power (RSCP) , DL reference signal carrier phase difference (RSCPD) , and UL RSCP. Exemplary label types may include: location coordinates; timing estimation; line of sight (LOS) or non line of sight (NLOS) indicator including soft indicator in terms of probability of LOS / NLOS, e.g., [0, 0.1, 0.2, …1] and / or hard indicator in terms of a binary Boolean indicator LOS or NLOS, e.g., [True (LOS) , False (NLOS) ] . Exemplary assistance information may include: time stamp, measurement or label quality indicator, and reference signal (RS) configuration etc.

[0050] After receiving the data collection and report configuration information in LPP messages, UE will perform data collection and determine whether to report the collected data  via the dedicated radio bearer. For example, UE may determine whether the dedicated radio bearer is available. In the case that the dedicated radio bearer is available and there is another data reporting via the dedicated radio bearer, UE may further determine whether to report the collected data via the dedicated radio bearer based on configured or predefined priority for reporting the collected data. Only in the case of determining to report the collected data via the dedicated radio bearer, UE will report the collected data by LPP messages via the dedicated radio bearer. Otherwise, UE may transmit the collected data by LPP messages via another radio bearer, e.g., via SRB2 or SRB1 as legacy solution, or not transmit the collected data while transmit to LMF information related to the data collection (also by another radio bearer) indicating that reporting the collected data via the dedicated radio bearer fails.

[0051] Considering that the dedicated radio bearer needed for reporting the collected data by LPP messages will be configured by NE, e.g., a gNB, two schemes are proposed to ensure the NE, e.g., gNB to know that a dedicated radio bearer is needed. One is, LMF indicates to NE the need of a dedicated DRB for reporting the collected data by LPP messages (scheme 1) ; and the other is, UE indicates to gNB the need of a dedicated DRB for reporting the collected data by LPP messages (scheme 2) . Thus, for a UE that is expected to report collected data by LPP messages via the dedicated radio bearer, gNB may receive information indicating need of dedicated radio bearer associated with the UE from the LMF or the UE. gNB may determine whether to configure the needed dedicated radio bearer, e.g., based on configured or predefined QoS requirements for reporting collected data by LPP messages. In the case that gNB determines to configure the dedicated radio bearer, gNB will transmit configuration of the dedicated radio bearer to the UE.

[0052] Aspects of the present disclosure are described in the context of a wireless communications system.

[0053] Figure 1 illustrates an example of a wireless communications system 100 in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The wireless communications system 100 may include one or more NE 102, one or more UE 104, and a core network (CN) 106. The wireless communications system 100 may support various radio access technologies. In some implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a 4G network, such as an LTE network or an LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network. In some other implementations, the  wireless communications system 100 may be a NR network, such as a 5G network, a 5G-Advanced (5G-A) network, or a 5G ultrawideband (5G-UWB) network. In other implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a combination of a 4G network and a 5G network, or other suitable radio access technology including Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 (Wi-Fi) , IEEE 802.16 (WiMAX) , IEEE 802.20. The wireless communications system 100 may support radio access technologies beyond 5G, for example, 6G. Additionally, the wireless communications system 100 may support technologies, such as time division multiple access (TDMA) , frequency division multiple access (FDMA) , or code division multiple access (CDMA) , etc.

[0054] The one or more NE 102 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region to form the wireless communications system 100. One or more of the NE 102 described herein may be or include or may be referred to as a network node, a base station, a network element, a network function, a network entity, a radio access network (RAN) , a NodeB, an eNodeB (eNB) , a next-generation NodeB (gNB) , or other suitable terminology. An NE 102 and a UE 104 may communicate via a communication link, which may be a wireless or wired connection. For example, an NE 102 and a UE 104 may perform wireless communication (e.g., receive signaling, transmit signaling) over a Uu interface.

[0055] An NE 102 may provide a geographic coverage area for which the NE 102 may support services for one or more UEs 104 within the geographic coverage area. For example, an NE 102 and a UE 104 may support wireless communication of signals related to services (e.g., voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcast, etc. ) according to one or multiple radio access technologies. In some implementations, an NE 102 may be moveable, for example, a satellite associated with a non-terrestrial network (NTN) . In some implementations, different geographic coverage areas 112 associated with the same or different radio access technologies may overlap, but the different geographic coverage areas may be associated with different NE 102.

[0056] The one or more UE 104 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region of the wireless communications system 100. A UE 104 may include or may be referred to as a remote unit, a mobile device, a wireless device, a remote device, a subscriber device, a transmitter device, a receiver device, or some other suitable terminology. In some  implementations, the UE 104 may be referred to as a unit, a station, a terminal, or a client, among other examples. Additionally, or alternatively, the UE 104 may be referred to as an Internet-of-Things (IoT) device, an Internet-of-Everything (IoE) device, or machine-type communication (MTC) device, among other examples.

[0057] A UE 104 may be able to support wireless communication directly with other UEs 104 over a communication link. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a device-to-device (D2D) communication link. In some implementations, such as vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) deployments, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) deployments, or cellular-V2X deployments, the communication link 114 may be referred to as a sidelink. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a PC5 interface.

[0058] An NE 102 may support communications with the CN 106, or with another NE 102, or both. For example, an NE 102 may interface with other NE 102 or the CN 106 through one or more backhaul links (e.g., S1, N2, N2, or network interface) . In some implementations, the NE 102 may communicate with each other directly. In some other implementations, the NE 102 may communicate with each other or indirectly (e.g., via the CN 106. In some implementations, one or more NE 102 may include subcomponents, such as an access network entity, which may be an example of an access node controller (ANC) . An ANC may communicate with the one or more UEs 104 through one or more other access network transmission entities, which may be referred to as a radio heads, smart radio heads, or transmission-reception points (TRPs) .

[0059] The CN 106 may support user authentication, access authorization, tracking, connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The CN 106 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) , or a 5G core (5GC) , which may include a control plane entity that manages access and mobility (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME) , an access and mobility management functions (AMF) ) and a user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW) , a Packet Data Network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , or a user plane function (UPF) ) . In some implementations, the control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as mobility,  authentication, and bearer management (e.g., data bearers, signal bearers, etc. ) for the one or more UEs 104 served by the one or more NE 102 associated with the CN 106.

[0060] The CN 106 may communicate with a packet data network over one or more backhaul links (e.g., via an S1, N2, N2, or another network interface) . The packet data network may include an application server. In some implementations, one or more UEs 104 may communicate with the application server. A UE 104 may establish a session (e.g., a protocol data unit (PDU) session, or the like) with the CN 106 via an NE 102. The CN 106 may route traffic (e.g., control information, data, and the like) between the UE 104 and the application server using the established session (e.g., the established PDU session) . The PDU session may be an example of a logical connection between the UE 104 and the CN 106 (e.g., one or more network functions of the CN 106) .

[0061] In the wireless communications system 100, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may use resources of the wireless communications system 100 (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) ) to perform various operations (e.g., wireless communications) . In some implementations, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support different resource structures. For example, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support different frame structures. In some implementations, such as in 4G, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support a single frame structure. In some other implementations, such as in 5G and among other suitable radio access technologies, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures (i.e., multiple frame structures) . The NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures based on one or more numerologies.

[0062] One or more numerologies may be supported in the wireless communications system 100, and a numerology may include a subcarrier spacing and a cyclic prefix. A first numerology (e.g., μ=0) may be associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. In some implementations, the first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with the first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may utilize one slot per subframe. A second numerology (e.g., μ=1) may be associated with a second subcarrier spacing (e.g., 30 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A third numerology (e.g., μ=2) may be associated with a third subcarrier spacing (e.g., 60 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix or an extended cyclic prefix. A  fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) may be associated with a fourth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 120 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A fifth numerology (e.g., μ=4) may be associated with a fifth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 240 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix.

[0063] A time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to frames (also referred to as radio frames) . Each frame may have a duration, for example, a 10 millisecond (ms) duration. In some implementations, each frame may include multiple subframes. For example, each frame may include 10 subframes, and each subframe may have a duration, for example, a 1 ms duration. In some implementations, each frame may have the same duration. In some implementations, each subframe of a frame may have the same duration.

[0064] Additionally or alternatively, a time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to slots. For example, a subframe may include a number (e.g., quantity) of slots. The number of slots in each subframe may also depend on the one or more numerologies supported in the wireless communications system 100. For instance, the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth numerologies (i.e., μ=0, μ=1, μ=2, μ=3, μ=4) associated with respective subcarrier spacings of 15 kHz, 30 kHz, 60 kHz, 120 kHz, and 240 kHz may utilize a single slot per subframe, two slots per subframe, four slots per subframe, eight slots per subframe, and 16 slots per subframe, respectively. Each slot may include a number (e.g., quantity) of symbols (e.g., OFDM symbols) . In some implementations, the number (e.g., quantity) of slots for a subframe may depend on a numerology. For a normal cyclic prefix, a slot may include 14 symbols. For an extended cyclic prefix (e.g., applicable for 60 kHz subcarrier spacing) , a slot may include 12 symbols. The relationship between the number of symbols per slot, the number of slots per subframe, and the number of slots per frame for a normal cyclic prefix and an extended cyclic prefix may depend on a numerology. It should be understood that reference to a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may be used interchangeably between subframes and slots.

[0065] In the wireless communications system 100, an electromagnetic (EM) spectrum may be split, based on frequency or wavelength, into various classes, frequency bands, frequency channels, etc. By way of example, the wireless communications system 100 may  support one or multiple operating frequency bands, such as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz –7.125 GHz) , FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) , FR3 (7.125 GHz –24.25 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz –114.25 GHz) , FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz –71 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz –300 GHz) . In some implementations, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may perform wireless communications over one or more of the operating frequency bands. In some implementations, FR1 may be used by the NEs 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for cellular communications traffic (e.g., control information, data) . In some implementations, FR2 may be used by the NEs 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for short-range, high data rate capabilities.

[0066] FR1 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least three numerologies) . For example, FR1 may be associated with a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) , which includes 15 kHz subcarrier spacing; a second numerology (e.g., μ=1) , which includes 30 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing. FR2 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least 2 numerologies) . For example, FR2 may be associated with a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) , which includes 120 kHz subcarrier spacing.

[0067] Figure 2 illustrates an example of data collection and reporting procedure under scheme 1 in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure.

[0068] Referring to Figure 2, in some implementations of the present disclosure (scheme 1-1) , before or during configuring the UE to perform data collection and report over (or by or the like) LPP messages (hereinafter, also referred to as LPP data collection and reporting or the like for simplification) , which is expected to be transmitted via a dedicated radio bearer, LMF may inform gNB the need of dedicated radio bearer for LPP data collection and reporting, e.g., by an NRPPa message in step 201. The information indicating need of dedicated radio bearer will be firstly transmitted to AMF from LMF in step 201a, and then will be transferred to gNB by AMF in step 201b.

[0069] In accordance with TR38.843, for positioning application cases, when considering LMF-side inference, it is assumed that the LPP protocol should be applied to the  data collected by UE and terminated at LMF, while the NRPPa protocol should be applied to the data collected by gNB and terminated at LMF. For LMF-side performance monitoring, it is assumed that the LPP protocol should be applied to the data collected by UE and terminated at LMF, while the NRPPa protocol should be applied to the data collected by gNB and terminated at LMF. Thus, herein, communications by or over LPP messages also mean communications between UE and LMF (may be forwarded via gNB and / or AMF etc. ) , and communications by NRPPa messages also mean communications between gNB and LMF (may be forwarded via AMF etc. ) .

[0070] LMF may require the dedicated radio bear for one or more UEs via one NRPPa message (or in one NRPPa procedure) .

[0071] For example, for a single UE, LMF may generate a UE associated NRPPa message which includes information indicating need of dedicated radio bearer. The UE associated NRPPa message may be a legacy one, e.g., NRPPa Positioning Information Request message or a new NRPPa message (compared with the legacy one) . The NRPPa message is then contained as an NRPPa PDU with UE ID information (e.g., a subscription permanent identifier (SUPI) of the UE) in a message sent from LMF to AMF, e.g., Namf_Communication_N1N2MessageTransfer. AMF will forward the received NRPPa PDU etc. towards the serving gNB of this UE, e.g., in a next generation application protocol (NGAP) message (e.g., NGAP DL UE Associated NRPPa Transport) which includes the NRPPa PDU and the associated UE ID information (e.g., UE NGAP ID corresponding to the SUPI) .

[0072] In the case of requesting dedicated radio bearer configurations for multiple UEs in one NRPPa procedure, LMF may generate a non-UE associated NRPPa message, which includes information indicating need of dedicated radio bearer as well as ID information of a set of UEs (e.g., a list of SUPIs) . Similarly, the non-UE associated NRPPa message may be a legacy one or a new NRPPa message (compared with the legacy one) . The non-UE associated NRPPa message is then contained as an NRPPa PDU with the ID information of the set of UEs in a message sent from LMF to AMF, e.g., Namf_Communication_NonUeN2MessageTransfer. AMF will forward the received NRPPa  PDU etc. towards the serving gNB (s) of those UEs in an NGAP message (e.g., NGAP DL Non UE Associated NRPPa Transport) .

[0073] The information (or indicator) indicating need of dedicated radio bearer can be in various forms. For example, in some implementations of the present disclosure, the information may indicate the need of dedicated radio bearer for LPP data transmissions (e.g., for those have relaxed latency requirements) as a generic indicator. In some implementations of the present disclosure, the information may indicate LPP data collection (e.g., those have relaxed latency requirements) is to be triggered, or collected data (e.g., that has relaxed latency requirements) is expected to be reported by LPP messages etc. In some implementations of the present disclosure, the need of dedicated radio bearer may be indicated by other information element (IE) related to data collection configuration.

[0074] LMF may also configure QoS requirements for LPP data collection and reporting, and transmit information related to the QoS requirements to gNB, e.g., in the same NRPPa message. An example of information related to the QoS requirements may include QoS related information which may enable gNB to configure the dedicated radio bearer accordingly. In some cases, QoS requirements for LPP data reporting are specified (or predefined) by default configurations. The gNB may configure the radio bearer according to a default configuration that has been specified in the 3GPP specification. For example, the default configuration of a radio bearer may include a radio link control (RLC) mode and value (s) of timer (s) (e.g., packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) discard timer) of the radio bearer. Accordingly, in these cases, exemplary information related to the QoS requirements may include latency related information, or reliability related information, or both, which may enable gNB to, e.g. configure a RLC mode or timers (e.g., PDCP discard timer) of a radio bearer based on the predefined QoS requirements.

[0075] After receiving the information indicating need of dedicated radio bearer, gNB may determine whether to configure the dedicated radio bearer in step 203. In the case that gNB determines to configure the dedicated radio bearer, which may be based on the configured or predefined QoS requirements as aforementioned, gNB will configure the dedicated radio bearer for UE (the single UE or each UE of the set of UEs) in step 205, e.g., via RRC reconfiguration procedure or the like over air interface. For example, in the case  that the information indicating need of dedicated radio bearer is related to a single UE, gNB may determine to configure the UE with a dedicated radio bearer, e.g., used for LPP data collection and reporting (e.g., which has relaxed latency requirements) . In the case that the information indicating need of dedicated radio bearer is for a set of UEs, gNB may determine to configure each UE with a dedicated radio bearer, e.g., used for LPP data collection and reporting (e.g., which has relaxed latency requirements) . However, in some cases, gNB may refuse to configure the needed dedicated radio bearer, e.g., due to lack of radio resources etc.

[0076] In step 207, gNB may reply information (or indicator) in response to the received NRPPa message, e.g., "Acknowledge" or "Not Acknowledge" by another NRPPa message to the LMF, indicating whether the dedicated radio bearer is configured or not (or, success or failure of the dedicated radio bearer configuration) , e.g., for the UE (or the set of UEs) . For example, in the case that information indicating need of dedicated radio bearer is related to a single UE, the NRPPa message carrying the response may be transmitted as an NRPPa PDU, e.g., conveyed by NGAP UL UE Associated NRPPa Transport message from gNB to AMF in step 207a, and by Namf_Communication_N2InfoNotify message from AMF to LMF in step 207b. In the case that information indicating need of dedicated radio bearer is related to a set of UEs, the NRPPa message carrying the response may be transmitted as an NRPPa PDU, e.g., conveyed by NGAP UL Non UE Associated NRPPa Transport message from gNB to AMF in step 207a, and by Namf_Communication_NoeUeN2InfoNotify message from AMF to LMF in step 207b.

[0077] In some implementations of the present disclosure, it may be predefined that gNB may only transmit information indicating that the dedicated radio bearer is not configured (or failure) , or only transmit information indicating that the dedicated radio bearer is configured (or success) . LMF may also determine whether the dedicated radio bearer is configured or not based on the predefine rules.

[0078] In the case that the dedicated radio bearer is configured for the UE, e.g., receiving "Acknowledge" (or LMF assumes that the dedicated radio bearer is configured) , LMF will initiate or start an LPP procedure (e.g., a Location Information Transfer procedure) and send an LPP message (e.g., RequestLocationInformation) to configure the UE to perform data collection and report the collected data by LPP messages via the configured dedicated radio  bearer in step 209. For example, LMF may transmit an LPP message (or as a PDU) including configuration of the LPP data collection and reporting via the dedicated radio bearer in a message, e.g., Namf_Communication_N1N2MessageTransfer to AMF in step 209a, and then AMF will forward the LPP PDU including the configuration of LPP data collection and reporting via the dedicated radio bearer in a message, e.g., NGAP NAS Transport to gNB in step 209b, and then gNB will forward the LPP PDU including the configuration of LPP data collection and reporting via the dedicated radio bearer in a message, e.g., RRC DL Information Transfer to UE in step 209c.

[0079] In the case that the information related to data collection indicates that the dedicated radio bearer is not configured for the UE, e.g., receiving "Not Acknowledge" (or LMF assumes that the dedicated radio bearer is not configured) , LMF may not configure any LPP data collection and reporting for UE in some implementations of the present disclosure. In some other implementations of the present disclosure, LMF may configure LPP data collection and reporting by a legacy procedure, which uses NAS-based signaling over SRB2 or SRB1 to request and receive the collected data from the UE.

[0080] In some implementations of the present disclosure, LMF may have transmitted configuration of LPP data collection and reporting to UE before or during transmitting information indicating need of dedicated radio bearer to gNB, but not activated the configuration yet. In the case that gNB indicates that the dedicated radio bearer is configured for the UE, e.g., receiving "Acknowledge" (or LMF assumes that the dedicated radio bearer is configured) , LMF will send an "activate" message to UE to activate the configuration, so that UE will start or initiate an LPP data collection and reporting procedure. Otherwise, LMF will not activate the configuration.

[0081] In the UE side, in the case of receiving an LPP message that configures UE to perform data collection and report the collected data by LPP messages via the dedicated radio bearer (and "activate message" if necessary) , UE may determine how to log and report the requested data (e.g., measurement result) taking into account the availability of the dedicated radio bearer, e.g., by LPP layer in step 211.

[0082] Although the dedicated radio bearer is available at the UE when receiving the LPP message configuring LPP data collection and reporting under scheme 1-1, for an LPP  message for reporting the collected data, UE may further determine whether the LPP message has a lower priority (or importance) than other LPP messages based on configured or predefined priority for reporting the collected data. For example, in the case that the LPP message for reporting the collected data has relaxed latency requirements, it may be considered to be with a low priority, and UE may transmit the LPP message for reporting the collected data over the dedicated radio bearer. Otherwise, UE may transmit the LPP message for reporting the collected data over SRB2 or SRB1 as specified in legacy 3GPP specification.

[0083] In some implementations of the present disclosure, the related priority of LPP message may be configured by LMF. For example, in the LPP message from LMF (e.g., RequestLocationInformation message) which configures the LPP data collection and reporting, an IE may be used to indicate the priority level (or importance level) of the corresponding LPP messages for transmitting the LLP data report (e.g., ProvideLocationInformation message corresponding to RequestLocationInformation message) . In some implementations of the present disclosure, the related priority or importance of LPP message for reporting the collected data may be specified or predefined in 3GPP standards or specifications. For example, the LPP message from UE to LMF containing data (e.g., measurement results) for offline AI / ML training is considered to have a lower priority than other LPP messages, e.g., those for capability exchange, assistance data exchange, location information exchange.

[0084] Figure 3 illustrates another example of data collection and reporting procedure under scheme 1 in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure.

[0085] Referring to Figure 3, in some implementations of the present disclosure (scheme 1-2) , LMF may transmit the information indicating need of dedicate radio bearer to gNB during an LPP procedure. For example, when LMF initiates an LPP procedure and sends an LPP message to configure the UE to perform data collection and report the collected data by LPP messages, which is expected to be transmitted via dedicated radio bearer. LMF may include the LPP message of configuring LPP data collection and reporting via dedicated radio bearer in a message transmitted from LMF to AMF in step 301. The LPP message of configuring the UE to perform LPP data collection and reporting and the information indicating need of dedicated radio bearer will be firstly transmitted to AMF from LMF in  step 301a, then will be transferred to gNB by AMF in step 301b, and then will be transferred to UE by gNB in step 301c. LMF may include the information indicating need of dedicated radio bearer in the same message from LMF to AMF in step 301.

[0086] For example, in some implementations of the present disclosure, LMF may generate an LPP message (e.g., RequestLocationInformation) to configure the UE to perform data collection and reporting over LPP, which may be further included as an LPP PDU in a message from LMF to AMF, e.g., Namf_Communication_N1N2MessageTransfer. In the same message from LMF to AMF, e.g., Namf_Communication_N1N2MessageTransfer that conveys the LPP message of configuring the UE to perform LPP data collection and reporting as an LPP PDU, LMF may also include the information indicating need of dedicated radio bearer, which can be in various manners as illustrated in view of scheme 1-1 and is used to indicate that the conveyed LPP message or PDU is related to an LPP procedure that is expected to be transmitted via a dedicated radio bearer over air interface. Similarly, LMF may also transmit information related to the QoS requirements associated with the needed dedicated radio bearer to gNB, e.g., in the same message from LMF to AMF (e.g., Namf_Communication_N1N2MessageTransfer) that conveys the LPP message as LPP PDU. AMF will then forward the LPP message as well as the information indicating need of dedicated radio bearer and QoS requirement related information (if provided) to gNB via an NGAP procedure or message (e.g., by NGAP DL NAS Transport) .

[0087] After receiving the message from AMF, e.g., NGAP DL NAS Transport, gNB will deliver or forward the LPP message that configures UE to perform LPP data collection and reporting to UE. For the received information indicating need of dedicated radio bearer and QoS requirement related information (if provided) , gNB may determine whether to configure the dedicated radio bearer in step 303, which is similar to aforementioned step 203, and thus will repeat.

[0088] In the case that gNB determines to configure the dedicated radio bearer, gNB may configure the dedicated radio bearer for UE in step 305, e.g., via RRC reconfiguration procedure or the like over air interface. However, in some cases, gNB may refuse to configure the needed dedicated radio bearer, e.g., due to lack of radio resources etc.

[0089] In the UE side, after UE receives the LPP message configuring UE to perform LPP data collection, which is expected to be reported over dedicated radio bearer, UE may determine how to log and report the requested data (e.g., measurement result) taking into account the availability of the dedicated radio bearer, e.g., by LPP layer. For example, UE may first check whether the dedicated radio bearer is available (or configured by the gNB) in step 307. If the dedicated radio bearer is not available (or not configured by the gNB) , UE may start a timer and wait for gNB to configure the dedicated radio bearer, e.g., which is expected to be received in step 305.

[0090] The timer and its value may be configured by gNB and run at RRC layer, or configured by LPP layer and run at LPP layer. UE may start the timer in response to receiving the LPP message configuring the LPP data collection and reporting which is expected to be transmitted over dedicated radio bearer while the dedicated radio bearer is not available or not configured at UE, e.g., as determined in step 307.

[0091] In step 309, UE may further determine whether to report the collected data by LPP messages via dedicated radio bearer as configured, and transmit information related to data collection to LMF in step 311, which may be LPP data reporting via the dedicated radio bearer, or LPP data reporting via another radio bearer (non-dedicated radio bearer) , or information indicating starting of LPP data reporting via the dedicated radio bearer, or information indicating failure or stop of LPP data reporting via the dedicated radio bearer etc. For example, UE may generate an LPP message or PDU including the information related to data collection, which is contained in a message, e.g., RRC UL Information Transfer from UE to gNB in step 311a, and then the LPP message or PDU is contained in a message, e.g., NGAP UL NAS Transport from gNB to AMF in step 311b, and then is forwarded to LMF by AMF in a message, e.g., Namf Communication_N1MessageNotify in step 311c.

[0092] For example, in the case that the dedicated radio bearer is available at UE already (e.g., gNB has configured the dedicated radio bearer in advance for other reasons) in step 307, or the dedicated radio bearer is configured at UE in step 305 before the timer expires, UE may further determine whether to perform LPP data reporting via dedicated radio bearer based on priority etc. as illustrated in scheme 1-1, and thus will not repeat.

[0093] In the case that the dedicated radio bearer is not configured until the timer expires (or UE determines that the dedicated radio bearer will not be configured by the gNB by other manners) , that is the dedicated radio bearer is not available at UE even after the timer expires, UE will consider that the LPP data reporting via dedicated radio bearer is not going to happen.

[0094] In accordance with some aspects of the present disclosure, considering that the dedicated radio bearer is unavailable, UE may not perform measurement for data collection. In other word, UE will only start performing measurement for data collection in the case that the dedicated radio bearer is available. UE may generate an LPP message including information related to the LPP data collection and transmit the LPP message to inform LMF that the configured LPP data collection and reporting fails, e.g., via explicit indicator IE or cause value. Exemplary LPP message carrying information indicating the failure of configured LPP data collection and reporting may be an LPP ProvideLocatoinInformation message, or Error message, or Abort message. The indicator IE or cause value may indicate that the failure is due to the missing of dedicated radio bearer or other reason (s) .

[0095] In accordance with some other aspects of the present disclosure, even in the case that the dedicated radio bearer is unavailable, UE may start performing data collection as configured (e.g., performing measurement and log the measurement results) , e.g., when determining there is no available dedicated radio bearer in step 307 or in step 309 (e.g., the timer expires) . There are various schemes to further handle the collected data by UE.

[0096] For example, in some implementations of the present disclosure, for the collected data, UE may buffer the LPP data report in UE memories until the dedicated radio bearer is available at the UE. If the UE memories are full, UE may discard the collected data in the memories following the order of: from old data to new data, or from data type of low priority (or importance) to data type of high priority, or both. Exemplary data type may be type of measurements, such as PRS measurement or SSB measurement, or measurement of a specific cell. The priority (or importance) of the data type may be configured by LMF. In some cases, if the UE memories are full, UE may switch to another radio bearer (backup radio bearer, e.g., SRB2 or SRB1 or SRB3 etc. ) for transmitting the buffered LPP data reports. Regarding whether and which backup radio bearer is used for transmitting the buffered LPP data reports, it may be configured by gNB or specified (or predefined) in 3GPP standards or specifications.

[0097] In some implementations of the present disclosure, for the collected data, UE may not buffer the LPP data reports, while directly transmit the LPP data reports via another configured or predefined radio bearer (e.g., SRB2 or SRB1 etc. ) .

[0098] In accordance with some other aspects of the present disclosure, UE may also start performing data collection as configured (e.g., performing measurement and log the measurement result) when determining there is no available dedicated radio bearer in step 307. UE may also start a timer and wait for gNB to configure the dedicated radio bearer. If UE considers the LPP data collection report is not going to happen, e.g., no dedicated radio bearer configuration is received until the timer expires or if UE determines the dedicated radio bearer will not be configured by gNB, UE will stop any on-going data collection (e.g., measurements) . UE may discard all collected data. Similarly, UE may generate an LPP message to inform LMF that the configured LPP data collection and reporting fails, e.g., via explicit indicator IE or cause value.

[0099] Figure 4 illustrates an example of data collection and reporting procedure under scheme 2 in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure.

[0100] Referring to Figure 4, scheme 2 is similar to scheme 1-2, and the main difference therebetween is that in scheme 2, LMF will not transmit the information indicating need of dedicated radio bearer to gNB, and instead, UE will transmit information indicating need of dedicated radio bearer to gNB if UE determines that there is no available dedicated radio bearer for the configured LPP data collection and reporting, which is expected to be transmitted via dedicated radio bearer.

[0101] For example, LMF may initiate an LPP procedure and send an LPP message to configure the UE to perform data collection and report the collected data by LPP messages in step 401. The LPP message of configuring the UE to perform LPP data collection and reporting will be firstly transmitted to AMF from LMF in step 401a, then will be transferred to gNB by AMF in step 401b, and then will be transferred to UE by gNB in step 401c.

[0102] After UE receives the LPP message configuring UE to perform LPP data collection, which is expected to be reported over dedicated radio bearer, UE may determine whether to report the collected data by LPP messages via dedicated radio bearer as configured,  e.g., by LPP layer. For example, UE will first check whether the dedicated radio bearer is available (or configured by the gNB) in step 403. If the dedicated radio bearer is not available, UE may indicate gNB the need of dedicated radio bearer in step 404, e.g., via RRC UEAssistanceInformation message. UE may also include information related to QoS requirements for configured LPP data collection and reporting in the same message, which is similar to those illustrated in view of schemes 1-1 and 1-2. Similarly, UE may also start a timer and wait for gNB to configure the dedicated radio bearer.

[0103] For the received information indicating need of dedicated radio bearer from UE, gNB may determine whether to configure the dedicated radio bearer in step 405, e.g., based on configured or predefined QoS requirements, which is similar to aforementioned step 203, and thus will repeat.

[0104] In step 409, UE may further determine whether to report the collected data by LPP messages via dedicated radio bearer as configured, and transmit information related to data collection to LMF in step 411. For example, UE may generate an LPP message or PDU including the information related to data collection, which is contained in a message, e.g., RRC UL Information Transfer from UE to gNB in step 411a, and then the LPP message or PDU is contained in a message, e.g., NGAP UL NAS Transport from gNB to AMF in step 411b, and then is forwarded to LMF by AMF in a message, e.g., Namf Communication_N1MessageNotify in step 411c. More detailed operations in UE are also similar to those illustrated in view of scheme 1-2, and thus will not repeat.

[0105] In addition, regarding the LPP data collection and reporting within UE, as illustrated above, UE LPP layer may determine whether a UL LPP message will be sent via the dedicated radio bearer or not. In some implementations of the present disclosure, UE LPP layer may deliver the UL LPP message to the corresponding radio bearer directly. In some implementations of the present disclosure, UE LPP layer may deliver the UL LPP message as a NAS PDU to RRC layer and indicate to UE RRC layer whether the NAS PDU will be transmitted over the dedicated radio bearer.

[0106] In the case that UE starts the LPP data collection and reporting via the dedicated radio bearer, since the priority of the dedicated radio bearer is lower than SRB1, SRB2, SRB3, UE may have to prioritize other transmissions and keeps buffering the LPP data report in UE  memories. If the UE memories are full, UE may discard the LPP data report in the memories following the order of: from old data to new data, or from data type of low priority (or importance) to data type of high priority, or both; which is similar to those illustrated in scheme 1-2 where the memories are full in the case of the dedicated radio bearer being unavailable. Similarly, UE may also switch to another radio bearer (backup radio bearer, e.g., SRB2 or SRB1 or SRB3 etc. ) for transmitting the LPP data reports in the case of UE memories being full due to low priority of the dedicated radio bearer.

[0107] Moreover, considering UE's mobility, handovers may occur during LPP data collection and reporting procedure.

[0108] Figure 5 illustrates an example of data collection and reporting procedure during a handover in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure.

[0109] Referring to Figure 5, a UE, which is performing LPP data collection and reporting via source gNB may be handed over to a target gNB, via either intra-gNB or inter-gNB mobility procedure.

[0110] For example, during an inter-gNB mobility procedure, when source gNB wants to handover the UE to a target cell at a target gNB, in step 501, the source gNB may explicitly indicate that a dedicated radio bearer has been configured at the UE in the source cell, e.g., in XnAP HANDOVER REQUEST message, or provide the configuration of the dedicated radio bearer in the source gNB in an inter-node RRC message. In some implementations of the present disclosure, the source gNB may transmit the information indicating need of dedicated radio bearer received from LMF or gNB to the target gNB in step 501.

[0111] Correspondingly, in step 503, the target gNB is expected to provide the dedicated radio bearer configuration as well as the target gNB configuration etc., e.g., in the HANDOVER REQUEST ACKNOWLEDGE message, which will be forwarded to UE in step 505, e.g., via RRCReconfiguration message.

[0112] In step 507, UE will handle the LPP data report buffered in the memories. In some implementations of the present disclosure, during either intra-gNB or inter-gNB mobility procedure, when UE receives the RRCReconfiguration message for handover in step 505, UE may discard the LPP data report (or segment) which has been delivered to and  in the memories waiting for transmission. UE may retransmit the discarded LPP data report (or segment) to the target gNB after the completion of handover, e.g., after transmitting RRC reconfiguration complete message in step 509. In some implementations of the present disclosure, during either intra-gNB or inter-gNB mobility procedure, when UE receives the RRCReconfiguration message for handover in step 505, UE may not discard any LPP data report (or segment) which has been delivered to and in the memories waiting for transmission. UE may resume transmitting the LPP data report (or segment) which has been delivered to and in the memories on the target cell after the completion of handover, e.g., after transmitting RRC reconfiguration complete message in step 509. For instance, during the intra-gNB handover, the reset of RLC radio bearer or PDCP may not be always necessary.

[0113] Figure 6 illustrates an example of a UE 600 in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The UE 600 may include a processor 602, a memory 604, a controller 606, and a transceiver 608. The processor 602, the memory 604, the controller 606, or the transceiver 608, or various combinations thereof or various components thereof may be examples of means for performing various aspects of the present disclosure as described herein. These components may be coupled (e.g., operatively, communicatively, functionally, electronically, electrically) via one or more interfaces.

[0117] In some implementations, the processor 602 and the memory 604 coupled with the processor 602 may be configured to cause the UE 600 to perform one or more of the functions described herein (e.g., executing, by the processor 602, instructions stored in the memory 604) . For example, the processor 602 may support wireless communication at the UE 600 in accordance with examples as disclosed herein. The UE 600 may be configured to support a means for receiving a first LPP message that configures the UE to perform data collection and report via a dedicated radio bearer collected data by LPP messages; means for determining whether to report the collected data via the dedicated radio bearer; and means for reporting the collected data by LPP messages via the dedicated radio bearer in response to determining to report the collected data via the dedicated radio bearer.

[0118] The controller 606 may manage input and output signals for the UE 600. The controller 606 may also manage peripherals not integrated into the UE 600. In some implementations, the controller 606 may utilize an operating system such as or other operating systems. In some implementations, the controller 606 may be implemented as part of the processor 602.

[0119] In some implementations, the UE 600 may include at least one transceiver 608. In some other implementations, the UE 600 may have more than one transceiver 608. The transceiver 608 may represent a wireless transceiver. The transceiver 608 may include one or more receiver chains 610, one or more transmitter chains 612, or a combination thereof.
