[0069] In order to explain the operation of supplying power from an external power supply device through each of two or more connectors to an electronic device (201), a description will be made with reference to FIGS. 3a and 3b.
[0070] FIG. 3A is a drawing for explaining an operation when an external power supply device of a first rated power is coupled to an electronic device according to one embodiment and an external power supply device of a second rated power lower than the first rated power is coupled, and FIG. 3B is a drawing for explaining an operation when an external power supply device of a first rated power is coupled to an electronic device according to one embodiment and an external power supply device of a rated power equal to the first rated power is coupled.
[0071] Referring to FIG. 3a, an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101 or 201)) may be electrically connected to an external power supply via a first connector (or first port) (305a).
[0072] As illustrated in FIG. 3A, when the electronic device is supplied with power from an external power supply device connected through the first connector (305a), the connection of another external power supply device can be detected through the second connector (or second port) (306a). When the connection of another external power supply device is detected, the electronic device can compare the rated power of the external power supply device connected to the first connector (305a) with the rated power of the external power supply device connected through the second connector (306a). For example, when the rated power of the external power supply device connected to the first connector (305a) is 65 W and the rated power of the external power supply device connected through the second connector (306a) is 45 W, the electronic device can perform parallel control at twice the rated power of the smaller of the two external power supply devices. According to one embodiment, although the case where parallel control is possible twice due to input through two interfaces (e.g., the first connector (305a), the second connector (306a)) has been described as an example, if there are three or more (e.g., four) interfaces for charging, the corresponding multiple (e.g., a multiple corresponding to the number of connected external power supply devices) can of course be adjusted. The electronic device can control the on / off of the power switch to supply power to the entire system, while simultaneously preventing current from flowing in the reverse direction even if the voltage of either the first connector (305a) or the second connector (306a) is high, and supplying power. For example, instead of 110W, which is the sum of 65W and 45W, 45W * 2 = 90W power can be supplied.
[0073] For example, if the rated power of the external power supply connected to the first connector (305a) is 65 W and the rated power of the external power supply connected via the second connector (306a) is 25 W, the electronic device can only receive 25 W * 2 = 50 W, not 90 W, which is the sum of 65 W and 25 W, if twice the rated power of the smaller of the two external power supplies is smaller than the rated power of the other larger external power supply. In other words, even if a 25 W external power supply is additionally connected while a 65 W external power supply is connected, the actual power supply cannot be expected to be expanded.
[0074] As shown in Fig. 3a, when the rated power of the two external power supply devices is different, control over the power imbalance is not possible, so the maximum power, which is the sum of the rated power of the two external power supply devices, cannot be used, and there may be restrictions on power supply.
[0075] In Fig. 3b, a case in which the rated power of two external power supplies is the same is exemplified. For example, if the rated power of the external power supply connected to the first connector (305b) is 65 W and the rated power of the external power supply connected via the second connector (306b) is 65 W, power should be supplied at 130 W, which is the sum of 65 W and 65 W. However, depending on the degree of output voltage imbalance in the external power supplies, it may be difficult to actually supply power at the maximum power of 130 W. For example, even if the output voltage of the external power supply is 20 V, the output voltages output from each of the two external power supplies may be different (e.g., about 20.0 V, about 19.7 V) due to the tolerance of the output voltage (e.g., about 5%), and the voltages formed at each of the first connector (305b) and the second connector (306b) may also be different (e.g., about 19.6 V, about 19.5 V) due to the occurrence of a slight voltage difference due to the cable / connector resistance component. The numerical values in Fig. 3b are for exemplary purposes only, and various modifications or variations thereof may be possible.
[0076] Therefore, since an imbalance in the power supplied to an electronic device may occur depending on the degree of voltage imbalance formed at the connector due to a difference in the output voltage of the external power supply, when an external power supply is connected through two or more connectors, it is necessary to control the power so that the maximum power can be supplied from the external power supply.
[0077] In one embodiment, an electronic device for power control, a method of operation thereof, and a storage medium may be provided so that maximum power can be supplied from an external power supply device when the external power supply device is connected through two or more connectors.
[0078] FIG. 4a is an internal block diagram of an electronic device including a plurality of connectors according to one embodiment, and FIG. 4b is a circuit diagram of the internal block diagram of the electronic device of FIG. 4a.
[0079] Referring to FIGS. 4A and 4B , according to one embodiment, an electronic device (201) (e.g., the electronic device (101) of FIG. 1 , the electronic device (201) of FIG. 2 ) may include a first connector (405), a second connector (406), a control circuit (417), a charger circuit (418), and a battery (419) (e.g., the battery (189) of FIG. 1 ). According to one embodiment, the electronic device (201) may further include a first power switch (413a), a second power switch (413b), and a processor (420) (e.g., the processor (120) of FIG. 1 ).
[0080] Referring to FIGS. 4A and 4B , the operation of the electronic device (201) according to one embodiment may be controlled by the control circuit (417) or the processor (420) of the electronic device (201). The electronic device (201) performing a specific operation may be that the electronic device (201) or a component included in the electronic device (201) is controlled by the control circuit (417) or the processor (420) of the electronic device (201). In the following description, the operation of controlling the output voltage of the external power supply device is described as being controlled by the control circuit (417) of the electronic device (201).
[0081] Referring to FIGS. 4A and 4B, the electronic device (201) may include two or more connectors (405, 406). Each of the connectors (405, 406) may be connected to an external power supply device (407a, 407b). For example, the connectors (405, 406) may be connectors that support USB Type C.
[0082] When the electronic device (201) is electrically connected to an external power supply device (407a, 407b), it can receive power from the external power supply device (407a, 407b). For example, the electronic device (201) can be driven by receiving power from the external power supply device (407a, 407b) through a power terminal of the connector (405, 406) (e.g., VBUS of a USB connector).
[0083] According to one embodiment, the control circuit (417) may be a separate component from the processor (420), and may be a circuit in which a power management IC (PMIC) (414) and an identification circuit (416) are integrated into one. According to one embodiment, the control circuit of the electronic device (201) may include the processor (420). The identification circuit (416) of FIG. 4A may be referred to as a PD controller and may include at least one of a micro-USB interface controller (MUIC), a power delivery integrated circuit (PDIC), or a configuration channel (CC) logic. In addition, the power management circuit (414) of FIG. 4A may be a micom.
[0084] In one embodiment, at least a portion of the power management circuit (414), the processor (420), and the identification circuit (416) may be implemented as a single IC. In one embodiment, at least a portion of the power management circuit (414) and the identification circuit (416) may be implemented as a single IC, and the IC including the processor (420) may be configured as a separate IC.
[0085] A first external power supply device (407a) may be connected to the first connector (405), and a second external power supply device (407b) may be connected to the second connector (406). Each of the first external power supply device (407a) and the second external power supply device (407b) may be capable of adjusting the output voltage in real time.
[0086] Each of the two or more connectors (405, 406) may include one or more signal terminals, for example, a power terminal for supplying or receiving power, or an identification terminal for identifying an external power supply device. Here, the terminals may also be referred to as pins.
[0087] According to one embodiment, the control circuit (417) can recognize the physical connection of the first external power supply (407a) as the first external power supply (407a) is coupled through the first connector (405). The control circuit (417) can recognize the connection of the first external power supply (407a) and identify the first external power supply through at least one pin among a plurality of signal pins included in the first connector (405), for example, an identification terminal (e.g., a configuration channel (CC) pin). In addition, the control circuit (417) can receive power information related to the first external power supply (407a) through the first connector (405). For example, during the initial connection in the power negotiation phase, the control circuit (417) can receive at least one piece of power information (e.g., a current value, a voltage value) that is supportable by the first external power supply (407a).
[0088] The identification circuit (416) can determine whether an external power supply device is attached or detached using at least one of the first connector (405) and the second connector (406). The identification circuit (416) can adjust the output voltage of the external power supply device connected via at least one of the first connector (405) and the second connector (406).
[0089] The charging circuit (418) may be a circuit that provides power received using at least one of the first connector (405) and the second connector (406) to the battery (419). The output voltage of the charging circuit (418) may be an input voltage (e.g., a charging voltage) of the battery (419). The battery (419) may be charged based on the output voltage (e.g., a charging voltage) of the charging circuit (418).
[0090] A first power switch (413a) and a second power switch (413b) connected in series to each of the connectors (405, 406) can be enabled or disabled under the control of a control circuit (417). Each of the power switches (413a, 413b) is connected to an input of a power management circuit (414) and can serve to short-circuit or connect a path for charging the battery (419) and transmitting power required for the system. For example, the first power switch (413a) and the second power switch (413b) can serve to prevent current from flowing in the reverse direction even when the voltage of either of the connectors (405, 406) is high, while at the same time supplying power required for the system.
[0091] The power management circuit (414) can control the voltage of the power supplied to each component included in the electronic device (201). The power management circuit (414) can output a preset voltage. In FIGS. 4A and 4B , 'voltage' is described as an example for the purpose of explaining one embodiment, but 'voltage' can be used interchangeably with any one of 'current', 'power', or 'impedance'.
[0092] The processor (420) may control the operation of the electronic device (201) and / or the signal flow between blocks of the electronic device (201), and may perform a data processing function for processing data. For example, the processor (420) may be a central processing unit (CPU), an application processor (AP), a microcontroller unit (MCU), or a microprocessor unit (MPU). The processor (420) may be formed as a single core processor or a multi-core processor.
[0093] Meanwhile, an external power supply device can be electrically connected through at least one of the connectors (405, 406), and the electronic device (201) can perform a power negotiation step with the external power supply device. In the power negotiation step, when the external power supply device notifies the electronic device (201) of one or more power information (e.g., current value and voltage value) that can be supported, the electronic device (201) selects one of the power information that can be supported and notifies the external power supply device, thereby enabling a setting based on power information that is optimized for each other.
[0094] For example, when the identification circuit (416) receives first power information that can be supported by the first external power supply device (407a) through the first connector (405), the control circuit (417) can determine the output voltage of the first external power supply device (407a) based on the first power information. Accordingly, the control circuit (417) can control the first external power supply device (407a) to supply power to the charging circuit (418) through the first connector (405) with the determined output voltage. For example, when the first external power supply device (407a) having a rated power of 65 W is connected solely to the electronic device (201), power supply of up to 65 W can be possible from the first external power supply device (407a). The control circuit (417) can receive power of up to 65 W through an input current limit function using power information of the first external power supply device (407a).
[0095] The control circuit (417) can detect the connection of the second external power supply device (407a) through the second connector (406) while being supplied with power at the determined output voltage through the first connector (405). When the connection of the second external power supply device (407b) is detected through the second connector (406), the control circuit (417) can receive second power information that can be supported by the second external power supply device (407b) from the second external power supply device (407b) through the identification circuit (416). The control circuit (417) can identify the second power information of the second external power supply device (407b) and determine the output voltage of the second external power supply device (407b) based on the second power information. Accordingly, the control circuit (417) can control the second external power supply device (407b) to supply power to the charging circuit (418) through the second connector (406) with the determined output voltage.
[0096] For example, if a second external power supply device (407b) having a rated power of 45 W is additionally connected to the electronic device (201), the control circuit (417) can calculate a rated power ratio between the first external power supply device (407a) and the second external power supply device (407b) using the second power information. For example, the identification circuit (416) can transmit the power information of the second external power supply device (407b) to the power management circuit (414), and the power management circuit (414) can calculate the rated power ratio. In addition, the control circuit (417) can control the first power switch (413a) and / or the second power switch (413b) so that power from the second external power supply device (407b) can be supplied to the system or charging circuit (418) of the electronic device (201). The control circuit (417) can control the first power switch (413a) and / or the second power switch (413b) to simultaneously supply power from the first external power supply device (407a) and the second external power supply device (407b) while preventing current from flowing in the reverse direction, for example, from the electronic device (201) toward the second external power supply device (407b).
[0097] As illustrated in FIG. 4a, when a first external power supply device (407a) (e.g., a 65 W external power supply device) is coupled to a first connector (405) and a second external power supply device (407b) (e.g., a 45 W external power supply device) is coupled to a second connector (406), if the rated powers of the two external power supply devices (407a, 407b) are different, power may not be supplied up to the maximum power, which is the sum of the rated powers of the two external power supply devices (407a, 407b), due to various external factors such as the degree of voltage imbalance formed at the connectors (405, 406).
[0098] According to one embodiment, the control circuit (417) can control the power supplied to the charging circuit (418) to be maximized according to the output voltage of the first external power supply device (407a) and the output voltage of the second external power supply device (407b) when the first external power supply device (407a) and the second external power supply device (407b) are connected through two or more connectors (405, 406).
[0099] To this end, the control circuit (417) monitors the power supplied from the first external power supply device (407a) and the second external power supply device (407b), and based on the monitoring result, adjusts at least one of the output voltage of the first external power supply device (407a) and / or the output voltage of the second external power supply device (407b).
[0100] According to one embodiment, the first current amount of the first connector (405) and the second current amount of the second connector (406) may be used as a criterion for adjusting at least one of the output voltage of the first external power supply device (407a) and / or the output voltage of the second external power supply device (407b). For example, the control circuit (417) may monitor the first current amount of the first connector (405) and the second current amount of the second connector (406) in monitoring the power supplied from the first external power supply device (407a) and the second external power supply device (407b). For example, when a first external power supply device (407a) having a rated power of 65 W is connected to an electronic device (201), and a second external power supply device (407b) having a rated power of 45 W is additionally connected to the electronic device (201), the control circuit (417) can monitor the amount of current supplied through each connector (405, 406) while maintaining the 65 W set when connected alone, and calculate the input current ratio of each connector (405, 406). The control circuit (417) can compare the current ratio and the power ratio, and when the difference is greater than a threshold range, adjust at least one of the output voltage of the first external power supply device (407a) and / or the output voltage of the second external power supply device (407b) so that the current ratio and the power ratio match or become similar within the threshold range.
[0101] Meanwhile, the control circuit (417) can check the rated power of each of the first external power supply device (407a) and the second external power supply device (407b) as the first external power supply device (407a) and the second external power supply device (407b) are connected. The control circuit (417) can use the first power information and the second power information indicating the rated power of each of the first external power supply device (407a) and the second external power supply device (407b) to determine (or calculate, obtain) the rated power ratio between the first external power supply device (407a) and the second external power supply device (407b). For example, if the rated power of the first external power supply device (407a) is 65 W and the rated power of the second external power supply device (407b) is 45 W, the rated power ratio between the first external power supply device (407a) and the second external power supply device (407b) may be 45 / 65 = approximately 0.692. For example, when supplying 100 W of power, the first external power supply device (407a) may be 100*65 / (65+45) = 59.1 W, and the second external power supply device (407b) may be 100*45 / (65+45) = 40.9 W, so the power ratio may be determined as 40.9 / 59.1 = approximately 0.692.
[0102] The control circuit (417) can adjust the output voltage of at least one of the first external power supply device (407a) and the second external power supply device (407b) so that the ratio between the first amount of power supplied from the first external power supply device (407a) and the second amount of power supplied from the second external power supply device (407b) corresponds to the determined power ratio.
[0103] The control circuit (417) can monitor (410, 411) the first current amount of the first connector (405) and the second current amount of the second connector (406) to determine a ratio between the first power amount supplied from the first external power supply device (407a) and the second power amount supplied from the second external power supply device (407b). Since the power (P) is the product of the current (I) and the voltage (V), and the magnitude of the power (P) is proportional to the magnitude of the current (I), the power amount can be compared through the current amount supplied to each connector (405, 406).
[0104] The control circuit (417) can determine (or calculate, obtain) a ratio between the first amount of power supplied from the first external power supply device (407a) and the second amount of power supplied from the second external power supply device (407b) based on the first amount of current and the second amount of current. Accordingly, the control circuit (417) can adjust an output voltage of at least one of the first external power supply device (407a) and the second external power supply device (407b) so that the ratio between the first amount of current and the second amount of current corresponds to the determined power ratio (e.g., about 0.692).
[0105] Referring to FIGS. 4A and 4B, the first external power supply device (407a) and the connector (405) are connected in series, so that the current flowing between the first external power supply device (407a) and the connector (405) is the same and does not differ, so that the current (I) of the first external power supply device (407a) is the same regardless of whether the output voltage is adjusted. 407a ) and the first current amount (I) measured at the output terminal of the connector (405) 410 ) can always be the same (e.g. I 407a = I 410, I 407b = I 411) Therefore, the control circuit (417) measures the first current amount (I) measured at the output terminal of the first connector (405) as the ratio of the rated power of the first external power supply device (407a) to the rated power of the second external power supply device (407b). 410 ) and the second current amount (I) measured at the output terminal of the second connector (406) 411 ) so that the output voltage (V) of the first external power supply (407a) is similar to or within a critical range. IN1 ) and / or the output voltage (V) of the second external power supply (407b) IN2 ) can be controlled so that at least one output voltage is adjusted.
[0106] As described above, the control circuit (417) can monitor the current amount of each connector (405, 406) and adjust the output voltage of at least one of the first external power supply device (407a) and the second external power supply device (407b) so that the ratio between the monitored first current amount and the monitored second current amount corresponds to a determined power ratio (e.g., about 0.692) between the first external power supply device (407a) and the second external power supply device (407b). The control circuit (417) can adjust the output voltage of at least one of the first external power supply device (407a) and the second external power supply device (407b) in a specified unit. The specified unit can be, for example, about 0.02 V to 0.1 V.
[0107] According to one embodiment, the control circuit (417) can compare the current ratio between the first current amount and the second current amount with the determined power ratio to determine whether they correspond within a threshold range. If the current ratio does not correspond within the threshold range with the determined power ratio, that is, if the current ratio and the determined power ratio are compared and differ by exceeding the threshold range, the control circuit (417) can control the output voltage of at least one of the first external power supply device (407a) and the second external power supply device (407b) to be finely adjusted in a specified unit so that the current ratio and the determined power ratio match or become similar to each other within the threshold range. At this time, since the higher the voltage formed at the connectors (405, 406), the more power is supplied, and the lower the voltage formed at the connectors (405, 406), the less power is supplied, the control circuit (417) can control the output voltage of the low-capacity external power supply device to be lowered or the output voltage of the high-capacity external power supply device to be higher so that the current ratio and the rated power ratio become equal or similar. Accordingly, the control circuit (417) can upwardly adjust the output voltage of the first external power supply device (407a) to be higher by a specified unit, and can downwardly adjust the output voltage of the second external power supply device (407b) to be lower by a specified unit.
[0108] On the other hand, if the result of comparing the current ratio between the first current amount and the second current amount and the determined power ratio is within a threshold range, the control circuit (417) may stop the operation of adjusting the output voltage of at least one of the first external power supply device (407a) and the second external power supply device (407b), since this indicates that the power from the first external power supply device (407a) and the power from the second external power supply device (407b) are being supplied at maximum. In addition, if the result of comparing the current ratio between the first current amount and the second current amount and the determined power ratio after the initial connection is within a threshold range, the control circuit (417) may not perform the operation of adjusting the output voltage of at least one of the first external power supply device (407a) and the second external power supply device (407b).
[0109] On the other hand, after adjusting the output voltage of at least one of the first external power supply device (407a) and the second external power supply device (407b) to a specified unit, since the power supplied may vary depending on the adjusted output voltage, the control circuit (417) may monitor the third current amount of the first connector and the fourth current amount of the second connector. The control circuit (417) may determine (or calculate, obtain) a current ratio between the third current amount and the fourth current amount, and may identify whether a result of comparing the current ratio between the third current amount and the fourth current amount and the determined power ratio is within a threshold range.
[0110] If the compared result is within the threshold range, the control circuit (417) may stop the operation of adjusting the output voltage of at least one of the first external power supply device (407a) and the second external power supply device (407b). Accordingly, at least one of the first external power supply device (407a) and the second external power supply device (407b) may supply power to the electronic device (201) while maintaining the adjusted output voltage, so that the electronic device (201) may receive maximum power. On the other hand, if the result of comparing the current ratio between the third current amount and the fourth current amount and the determined power ratio is outside the threshold range, the control circuit (417) may repeatedly perform the operation of adjusting the output voltage of at least one of the first external power supply device (407a) and the second external power supply device (407b) by a specified unit.
[0111] Meanwhile, in the above-described case, when the difference between the first power information and the second power information is not large, such as when the rated power of the first external power supply device (407a) is 65 W and the rated power of the second external power supply device (407b) is 45 W, the case where the output voltage of the first external power supply device (407a) is adjusted upward by the specified unit or the output voltage of the second external power supply device (407b) is adjusted downward by the specified unit was described as an example. However, there may also be cases where the difference between the first power information and the second power information is large, such as when the rated power of the first external power supply device (407a) is 65 W and the rated power of the second external power supply device (407b) is 25 W.
[0112] Accordingly, when the control circuit (417) obtains first power information from the first external power supply device (407a) and second power information from the second external power supply device (407b), the control circuit (417) can compare the first power information with the second power information. When the first power information is greater than the second power information, the control circuit (417) can identify whether the first power information is greater than twice the second power information. For example, assuming that the rated power of the first external power supply device (407a) connected to the first connector (405) is 65 W and the rated power of the second external power supply device (407b) connected via the second connector (406) is 25 W, if the first power information is greater than twice the second power information, the control circuit (417) may monitor the first current amount of the first connector (405) and the second current amount of the second connector (406) after adjusting the output voltage of the first external power supply device (407a) upward by a specified voltage or adjusting the output voltage of the second external power supply device (407b) downward by the specified voltage.
[0113] Meanwhile, when the first power information and the second power information are the same, a connector having a large current amount among the connectors (405, 406) can be identified, and the output voltage of at least one of the first external power supply device (407a) and the second external power supply device (407b) can be adjusted according to the current amount of the identified connector. A detailed description thereof will be given with reference to FIG. 10.

[0129] FIG. 5 is a flowchart illustrating an operation of an electronic device for power control according to an embodiment. Referring to FIG. 5, an operation method may include operations 505 to 535. Each operation of the operation method of FIG. 5 may be performed by an electronic device (e.g., the electronic device 101 of FIG. 1, the electronic device 201 of FIG. 2, the electronic device 201 of FIG. 4A), at least one processor of the electronic device (e.g., at least one of the processor 120 of FIG. 1, the control circuit 417 of FIG. 4A, and the processor 420 of FIG. 4A). In an embodiment, at least one of operations 505 to 535 may be omitted, the order of some operations may be changed, another operation may be added, or at least two operations may be performed in parallel.
[0130] In one embodiment, in operation 505, the electronic device (201) (or control circuit (417)) may detect the connection of the first external power supply device through the first connector (405) to which the first external power supply device may be connected.
[0131] When the connection of the first external power supply device is detected, in operation 510, the electronic device (201) can identify the first power information of the first external power supply device.
[0132] In operation 515, the electronic device (201) can control the first external power supply device to supply power through the first connector at a first voltage, based at least on the first power information.
[0133] In operation 520, the electronic device (201) can detect the connection of a second external power supply device through a second connector (406) to which the second external power supply device can be connected while being powered with the first voltage through the first connector.
[0134] If the connection of the second external power supply device is detected, in operation 525, the electronic device (201) can identify the second power information of the second external power supply device. If, in operation 520, the connection of the second external power supply device is not detected through the second connector (406) to which the second external power supply device can be connected while receiving power at the first voltage through the first connector, the electronic device (201) can terminate the operation for power control for two or more external power supply devices.
[0135] In operation 530, the electronic device (201) can determine a power ratio between the first external power supply device and the second external power supply device based on the first power information and the second power information.
[0136] According to one embodiment, the electronic device (201) can monitor a first current amount of the first connector and a second current amount of the second connector. Based on the first current amount and the second current amount, the electronic device (201) can determine (or calculate) a ratio between the first power amount supplied from the first external power supply device and the second power amount supplied from the second external power supply device.
[0137] In operation 535, the electronic device (201) can adjust the output voltage of at least one of the first external power supply device and the second external power supply device so that the ratio between the first amount of power supplied from the first external power supply device and the second amount of power supplied from the second external power supply device corresponds to the determined power ratio.
[0138] According to one embodiment, the electronic device (201) can determine (or calculate) a current ratio between the first current amount and the second current amount. The electronic device (201) can identify whether the current ratio between the first current amount and the second current amount corresponds to the determined power ratio within a threshold range. Based on identifying that the current ratio between the first current amount and the second current amount does not correspond to the determined power ratio within the threshold range, the electronic device (201) can adjust an output voltage of at least one of the first external power supply device and the second external power supply device so that the current ratio between the first current amount and the second current amount corresponds to the determined power ratio.
[0139] According to one embodiment, the electronic device (201) may stop adjusting the output voltage of at least one of the first external power supply device and the second external power supply device based on identifying that the current ratio between the first current amount and the second current amount corresponds to the determined power ratio and within the threshold range.
[0140] According to one embodiment, the output voltage of at least one of the first external power supply device and the second external power supply device may be adjusted in a specified unit.
[0141] According to one embodiment, the electronic device (201) may compare the first power information with the second power information. If the first power information and the second power information are different, the electronic device (201) may adjust the output voltage of the first external power supply device upward by the specified unit or adjust the output voltage of the second external power supply device downward by the specified unit so that the ratio between the first power amount supplied from the first external power supply device and the second power amount supplied from the second external power supply device corresponds to the determined power ratio.
[0142] According to one embodiment, the electronic device (201) can identify a connector having a larger current amount among the first current amount of the first connector and the second current amount of the second connector when the first power information and the second power information are the same. When the connector having the larger current amount is the first connector, the electronic device (201) can adjust the output voltage of the first external power supply device downward or the output voltage of the second external power supply device upward so that the current ratio between the first current amount and the second current amount corresponds to the determined power ratio.
[0143] According to one embodiment, the electronic device (201) may monitor a third current amount of the first connector and a fourth current amount of the second connector after adjusting an output voltage of at least one of the first external power supply device and the second external power supply device to the specified unit. The electronic device (201) may determine a current ratio between the third current amount and the fourth current amount. The electronic device (201) may identify whether the current ratio between the third current amount and the fourth current amount corresponds to the determined power ratio within a threshold range. The electronic device (201) may maintain the adjusted at least one output voltage based on identifying that the current ratio between the third current amount and the fourth current amount corresponds to the determined power ratio within the threshold range.
[0144] According to one embodiment, the electronic device (201) may adjust the output voltage of at least one of the first external power supply device and the second external power supply device to the specified unit based on identifying that the current ratio between the third current amount and the fourth current amount does not correspond to the determined power ratio within the threshold range.
[0145] FIG. 6 is a flowchart illustrating an operation of an electronic device for adjusting an output voltage of an external power supply device according to an embodiment. Referring to FIG. 6, the operation method may include operations 605 to 625. Each operation of the operation method of FIG. 6 may be performed by an electronic device (e.g., the electronic device 101 of FIG. 1, the electronic device 201 of FIG. 2, or the electronic device 201 of FIG. 4A), at least one processor of the electronic device (e.g., at least one of the processor 120 of FIG. 1, the control circuit 417 of FIG. 4A, or the processor 420 of FIG. 4A). In an embodiment, at least one of operations 605 to 625 may be omitted, the order of some operations may be changed, another operation may be added, or at least two operations may be performed in parallel.
[0146] To help understand the description of FIG. 6, reference may be made to FIGS. 8A and 8B. FIG. 8A is a measurement table for explaining a method for upwardly adjusting the output voltage of an external power supply device according to one embodiment, and FIG. 8B is a measurement table for explaining a method for downwardly adjusting the output voltage of an external power supply device according to one embodiment.
[0147] In operation 605, the electronic device (201) can collect rated power information of two or more external power supply devices (e.g., the first external power supply device (407a) and the second external power supply device (407b) of FIG. 4A) connected to two or more connectors (e.g., the connectors (405, 406) of FIG. 4A).
[0148] In operation 610, the electronic device (201) can calculate the rated power ratio between external power supply devices.
[0149] In operation 615, the electronic device (201) can monitor the current amount of each connector.
[0150] In operation 620, the electronic device (201) can identify whether the current ratio of the connector matches or is similar to the power ratio of the external power supply. For example, the electronic device (201) can identify whether the difference between the current of the connector and the power ratio of the external power supply is within a threshold range. If the current ratio of the connector matches or is similar to the power ratio of the external power supply, the electronic device (201) can terminate the operation for adjusting the power imbalance.
[0151] On the other hand, if the current ratio of the connector does not match or is similar to the power ratio of the external power supply, the electronic device (201) may, in operation 625, fine-tune the output voltage of the external power supply by a specified unit. For example, the electronic device (201) may downwardly adjust the output voltage of a low-capacity external power supply by a specified unit, and may upwardly adjust the output voltage of a high-capacity external power supply by a specified unit. After fine-tune the output voltage of the external power supply by the specified unit, the electronic device (201) may return to operation 615 and repeat the operation of monitoring the current amount of each connector.
[0152] For example, as shown in FIGS. 8A and 8B , it may be assumed that the rated power of the first external power supply device (A) is 65 W and the rated power of the second external power supply device (B) is 45 W, and the rated power ratio between the external power supplies may be 45 / 65 = approximately 0.692. The numbers in FIGS. 8A and 8B are for exemplary purposes only, and various modifications or variations thereof may be possible.
[0153] For example, when supplying 100W of power, the first external power supply device (A) may have 100*65 / (65+45) = 59.1W, and the second external power supply device (B) may have 100*45 / (65+45) = 40.9W, so that the power ratio can be determined as 40.9 / 59.1 = approximately 0.692. If the voltage setting values of each of the first external power supply device (A) and the second external power supply device (B) are set to be the same as 20.0V, the actual power measurement value (or current measurement value) of the connector to which the first external power supply device (A) is connected is 50.2W, which corresponds to 77% of the rated power, and the actual power measurement value of the connector to which the second external power supply device (B) is connected is predicted to be 50.5W, which may cause a situation in which the allowable power is exceeded. The electronic device (201) can identify whether the current ratio of the connector (e.g., about 1.0) matches or is similar to the power ratio of the external power supply (e.g., about 0.692). For example, the electronic device (201) can identify whether the difference between the current of the connector and the power ratio of the external power supply is within a threshold range (e.g., about 0.692 ± 10%). If the voltage setting value of the first external power supply device (A) is set to 20.3 V and the voltage setting value of the second external power supply device (B) is set to 20.0 V by fine-tuning in a specified unit, the actual power measurement value (or current measurement value) of the connector to which the first external power supply device (A) is connected is measured as 61.8 W, and the actual power measurement value of the connector to which the second external power supply device (B) is connected is measured as 40.0 W, and the current ratio of the connector (e.g., about 0.64) is within a critical range (e.g., about 0.692 ± 10%) of the power ratio of the external power supply device (e.g., about 0.692), and therefore, the operation of adjusting the output voltage of at least one of the first external power supply device (A) and the second external power supply device (B) can be stopped. Therefore, the output voltage of the external power supply device (A) can be maintained at 20.3 V, and the output voltage of the second external power supply device (B) can be maintained at 20.0 V.
[0154] As described above, when the optimal operating point is found, the electronic device (201) can change the settings to 110 W (= 65 W + 45 W), which is the sum of the rated power of the connected external power supply device (A) and the second external power supply device (B), through the input current limiting function, so that the electronic device (201) can use the maximum power that the connected first external power supply device (A) and the second external power supply device (B) can supply. Here, after confirming the optimal operating point, the electronic device (201) can further adjust the optimal operating point for fine voltage adjustment by re-checking the current amount of each connector. According to one embodiment, when the first external power supply device (A) is connected alone, only a maximum of 65 W can be used, but by additionally connecting the second external power supply device (B), a maximum of 110 W can be stably used, which can contribute to improving the battery charging time and the performance of the electronic device (201).
[0155] In Fig. 8a, the case where the output voltage of a high-capacity external power supply device (A) is upwardly adjusted by a specified unit is exemplified, but as in Fig. 8b, the power imbalance can also be adjusted by downwardly adjusting the output voltage of a low-capacity external power supply device (B) by a specified unit as in direction ⓐ. Conversely, the power imbalance can also be adjusted by first lowering the output voltage of a low-capacity external power supply device (B) by a specified voltage (e.g., approximately 0.7 V) and then upwardly adjusting it by a specified unit as in direction ⓑ.
[0156] Additionally, FIGS. 8a and 8b illustrate a case where the output voltage of an external power supply device (A) or an external power supply device (B) is adjusted, but the output voltages of both the external power supply device (A) and the external power supply device (B) may be adjusted simultaneously.
[0157] In the above, the case where the control is performed based on the same voltage (e.g., 20 V) when adjusting the output voltage of each or at least one of the two external power supply devices when connecting the two external power supply devices has been described as an example, but the control may also be performed based on a voltage that increases or decreases one of the output voltages by a specified voltage, and this will be described with reference to FIG. 7.
[0158] FIG. 7 is a flowchart illustrating an operation of an electronic device for protecting an external power supply device having a low rated power according to an embodiment. Referring to FIG. 7, the operation method may include operations 705 to 750. Each operation of the operation method of FIG. 7 may be performed by an electronic device (e.g., the electronic device 101 of FIG. 4A). In an embodiment, at least one of operations 705 to 750 may be omitted, the order of some operations may be changed, another operation may be added, or at least two operations may be performed in parallel.
[0159] In Fig. 7, a method for adjusting power imbalance when twice the rated power of the smaller of the two external power supplies is smaller than the rated power of the other larger external power supply is illustrated. For example, assuming that the rated power of the first external power supply is 65 W and the rated power of the second external power supply is 25 W, when the two external power supplies attempt to supply power, the second external power supply with a lower capacity may exceed its rated capacity, which may cause an Over Current Protection (OCP) error. To prevent this, in one embodiment, the output voltage of the lower capacity external power supply may be adjusted downward by a specified voltage (e.g., approximately 0.7 V) or the output voltage of the higher capacity external power supply may be adjusted upward by a specified voltage (e.g., approximately 0.7 V) or more, and then power control may be performed after the voltage difference is set to occur.
[0160] In operation 705, the electronic device (201) may be connected to an external power supply device (D1) (e.g., the first external power supply device (407a) of FIG. 4a) via one of two or more connectors (e.g., connectors (405, 406) of FIG. 4a).
[0161] In operation 710, the electronic device (201) receives the rated power information (P) of the external power supply (D1). A ) and the rated power information (P) of the external power supply device (D2) additionally connected (e.g., the first external power supply device (407b) of FIG. 4a) B ) can be collected.
[0162] In operation 715, the electronic device (201) provides rated power information (P A ) and rated power information (P B ), comparing the rated power information (P A ) is the rated power information (P B ) can be identified as being greater than that.
[0163] Rated power information (P A) is the rated power information (P B ), in operation 720, the electronic device (201) can be set to generate a voltage difference by upwardly adjusting the output voltage of the external power supply device (D1) to a specified voltage (e.g., about 0.7 V) or more or downwardly adjusting the output voltage of the external power supply device (D2) to a specified voltage (e.g., about 0.7 V) or more.
[0164] On the other hand, the rated power information (P A ) is the rated power information (P B ), in operation 725, the electronic device (201) may be configured to generate a voltage difference by lowering the output voltage of the external power supply device (D1) by a specified voltage (e.g., about 0.7 V) or more or by upwardly adjusting the output voltage of the external power supply device (D2) by a specified voltage (e.g., about 0.7 V) or more.
[0165] After setting the voltage difference to occur as described above, in operation 730, the electronic device (201) can connect the external power supply device (D2). In operation 735, the electronic device (201) can calculate the rated power ratio between the two external power supply devices. In operation 740, the electronic device (201) can monitor the current amount of each connector, and in operation 745, can identify whether the current ratio matches or is similar to the power ratio. If the current ratio matches or is similar to the power ratio, the operation for power adjustment can be terminated. On the other hand, if the current ratio does not match or is similar to the power ratio, that is, if the current ratio does not correspond to the rated power ratio within a threshold range, in operation 750, the electronic device (201) can upwardly adjust the output voltage of the low-capacity external power supply device among the two connected external power supply devices, or downwardly adjust the output voltage of the high-capacity external power supply device so that it corresponds to within the threshold range. Additionally, the electronic device (201) may also adjust the output voltage of a high-capacity external power supply downward while adjusting the output voltage of a low-capacity external power supply upward.
[0166] FIG. 9 is a flowchart illustrating an operation of an electronic device for adjusting an output voltage of an external power supply device to a specified unit according to an embodiment. Referring to FIG. 9, the operation method may include operations 905 to 935. Each operation of the operation method of FIG. 9 may be performed by an electronic device (e.g., the electronic device 101 of FIG. 1, the electronic device 201 of FIG. 2, the electronic device 201 of FIG. 4A)) and at least one processor of the electronic device (e.g., at least one of the processor 120 of FIG. 1, the control circuit 417 of FIG. 4A, and the processor 420 of FIG. 4A). In an embodiment, at least one of operations 905 to 935 may be omitted, the order of some operations may be changed, another operation may be added, or at least two operations may be performed in parallel.
[0167] Since operations 905 to 915 of FIG. 9 are identical to operations 605 to 615 of FIG. 6, their detailed descriptions will be omitted.
[0168] In operation 920, the electronic device (201) can compare the current ratio (i) of the connector and the power ratio (p) of the external power supply device. Here, the difference between the current ratio (i) of the connector and the power ratio (p) of the external power supply device is K n It can be said that.
[0169] In operation 925, the electronic device (201) can identify whether the difference between the n-1th and the nth comparison values is greater than 0. For example, the difference between the previous current ratio (i-1) of the connector and the power ratio (p) of the external power supply is K n-1 K is the difference between the current ratio (i) of the connector and the power ratio (p) of the external power supply. n It can identify whether the difference compared is greater than 0.
[0170] If the difference between the (n-1)th and the (n)th comparison values is greater than 0, in operation 935, the electronic device (201) can fine-tune the output voltage of the external power supply device by a specified unit. For example, the electronic device (201) can downwardly adjust the output voltage of a low-capacity external power supply device by a specified unit (e.g., approximately 0.1 V), and can upwardly adjust the output voltage of a high-capacity external power supply device by a specified unit. After fine-tuning the output voltage of the external power supply device by the specified unit, the electronic device (201) can return to operation 915 and repeat the operation of monitoring the current amount of each connector.
[0171] FIG. 10 is a flowchart illustrating an operation of an electronic device for adjusting an output voltage of an external power supply when the rated power is the same according to an embodiment. Referring to FIG. 10, an operation method may include operations 1005 to 1025. Each operation of the operation method of FIG. 10 may be performed by an electronic device (e.g., the electronic device (101) of FIG. 1, the electronic device (201) of FIG. 2, the electronic device (201) of FIG. 4A)), at least one processor of the electronic device (e.g., at least one of the processor (120) of FIG. 1, the control circuit (417) of FIG. 4A, and the processor (420) of FIG. 4A). In an embodiment, at least one of operations 1005 to 1025 may be omitted, the order of some operations may be changed, another operation may be added, or at least two operations may be performed in parallel.
[0172] Operations 1005 to 1020 of FIG. 10 are identical to operations 605 to 620 of FIG. 6, and operations 1005 to 1015 of FIG. 10 are also identical to operations 905 to 915 of FIG. 9, so a detailed description thereof will be omitted.
[0173] In Fig. 10, it can be assumed that the first power information of the first external power supply device and the second power information of the second external power supply device are the same.
[0174] In operation 1005, the electronic device (201) may collect rated power information of two or more external power supply devices connected to connectors. For example, based on the collected rated power information, it may be assumed that the rated power of a first external power supply device connected to a first connector among the two or more connectors is 65 W, and the rated power of a second external power supply device connected via a second connector among the two or more connectors is 65 W.
[0175] In operation 1010, the electronic device (201) can calculate the rated power ratio between external power supplies. For example, the rated power ratio between external power supplies may be 65W / 65W = 1.
[0176] In operation 1015, the electronic device (201) can monitor the current amount of each connector.
[0177] In operation 1020, the electronic device (201) can identify whether the current ratio of the connector matches or is similar to the power ratio of the external power supply. If the current ratio of the connector matches or is similar to the power ratio of the external power supply, the operation for adjusting the power imbalance can be terminated. On the other hand, if the current ratio of the connector does not match or is similar to the power ratio of the external power supply, for example, if the result of comparing the current ratio of the connector and the power ratio of the external power supply does not fall within a threshold range, the electronic device (201) can perform operation 1025. In operation 1025, the electronic device (201) can finely adjust the output voltage of the external power supply in a specified unit. For example, the electronic device (201) can identify a connector having a larger current amount among the first current amount of the first connector and the second current amount of the second connector. The electronic device (201) can adjust the output voltage of the first external power supply device downward or the output voltage of the second external power supply device upward so that the current ratio between the first current amount and the second current amount corresponds to the determined power ratio when the connector having the large current amount is the first connector.
[0178] According to one embodiment, when two external power supplies with different rated capacities are connected, maximum power can be used without power constraints. According to one embodiment, when two external power supplies with the same rated capacity are connected, maximum power can be used without load bias. According to one embodiment, when implementing a product with increased power using a USB Type-C connector, there is an advantage in that it can be implemented without a back-to-back charger structure.
[0179] Meanwhile, the method for controlling the output voltage of two or more external power supply devices has been described in the above, but when the output voltages of two or more external power supply devices are different, the voltage imbalance can be resolved by boosting or lowering the output voltage of one of the devices to obtain the same output voltage.
[0180] FIG. 11 is an internal block diagram of an electronic device for power control using a buck-boost converter when the output voltage of an external power supply device is different according to one embodiment.
[0181] Referring to FIG. 11, the electronic device (201) can compare the output voltage of the first external power supply device (407a) with the output voltage of the second external power supply device (407b). When the output voltage of the first external power supply device (407a) is supplied through the first connector (405), the electronic device (201) can compare the current amount of the first connector (405) with the current amount of the second connector (406). For example, when the first external power supply device (407a) (e.g., a 65 W external power supply device) is coupled to the first connector (405) and the second external power supply device (407b) (e.g., a 45 W external power supply device) is coupled to the second connector (406), the output voltages may be different from each other. In one embodiment, a buck-boost converter (1100) may be used for step-down or step-up. For this purpose, the buck-boost converter (1100) may be connected in series with the output terminal of the first connector (405). For example, when the output voltage of the first external power supply device (407a) is 5.0 V and the output voltage of the second external power supply device (407b) is 20.0 V, the voltage of the first connector (405) can be boosted to 20.0 V through the buck-boost converter (1100), thereby achieving power balance and enabling stable operation.
[0182] FIG. 12 is an internal block diagram of an electronic device for power control when power is supplied in different ways from an external power supply according to one embodiment.
[0183] In Fig. 12, the operation is shown when an external power supply device of a first rated power supplied through a charging circuit (418) is coupled with an external power supply device of a second rated power supplied without going through the charging circuit (418) (or supplied directly).
[0184] Referring to FIG. 12, when the output voltage of the first external power supply device (407a) is 17.5 V and the output voltage of the second external power supply device (407b) is 20.0 V, the charging circuit (418) is connected in series to the output terminal of the second connector (406) so as to provide power to the battery (419) at 17.5 V under the control of a control circuit (e.g., a power management circuit (414).
[0185] According to one embodiment, when an external power supply device is connected via two or more connectors, the current amount of the connectors can be monitored, and based on the monitored current amount, the power can be controlled so that the power from the external power supply device can be supplied to the maximum. Accordingly, even if an imbalance in the power supplied to an electronic device occurs depending on the degree of voltage imbalance formed at the connector due to a difference in output voltage between external power supply devices with different rated capacities, the maximum power can be stably provided. Furthermore, according to one embodiment, by resolving the power imbalance that occurs when external power supply devices with the same rated capacity are connected, a stable power supply is possible while maximizing the power.
