Abstract
Description
Communication system including multiple subscriber identification modules and method of operation thereof
[0001] This document relates to a communication system and / or an electronic device, and more particularly, to a communication system including a plurality of subscriber identity modules (SIMs) and a method of operating the same. The communication system may include, for example, an electronic device and / or a server.
[0002] Electronic devices may include a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) that manages personal information related to various functions such as user authentication, billing, and security features.
[0003] An electronic device can perform wireless communication based on subscriber identification information stored in a subscriber identification module (or SIM). If the electronic device includes multiple subscriber identification modules, the electronic device can perform wireless communication based on subscriber identification information stored in each subscriber identification module.
[0004] Electronic devices can utilize dual SIMs for wireless communication. Dual SIMs can include two SIM card slots or an eSIM (eSIM) in addition to the physical SIM. Using dual SIMs, electronic devices can utilize two lines on a single device.
[0005] Dual SIM support can take a variety of forms depending on the hardware architecture of the device. The electronic device described in this document utilizes the DSDS (dual SIM dual standby) method, where multiple SIMs are simultaneously in standby mode and, when one SIM is in a call mode, the remaining SIMs become unusable.
[0006] When terminal A is on a call with terminal B, and terminal C requests a call from terminal A, the communication system can notify terminal C that terminal A will not be able to answer the call if it does not answer the call within a certain period of time. Thereafter, when terminal A becomes available for a call, the communication system can send a text message to terminal A notifying that there has been a call attempt from terminal C.
[0007] Alternatively, the communication system may automatically forward a call to a number corresponding to the second subscriber identification module of terminal A when the call is not answered, so that the call can be received by a number corresponding to the first subscriber identification module of terminal A. The communication system may provide a call forwarding service so that terminal C can confirm that terminal A is on a call, and may also inform terminal A that terminal C is attempting to make a call.
[0008] However, services provided by communication systems can only be initiated after a call connection tone has been ringing for a certain period of time (e.g., 15 seconds or 30 seconds) and the voicemail connection phase has been reached. Therefore, if a call ends before the voicemail connection phase is reached, the electronic device has difficulty identifying a missed call from the number corresponding to the first subscriber identification module (SIM) while the call was being made from the number corresponding to the second subscriber identification module (SIM).
[0009] Furthermore, electronic devices may experience delays or failure to receive call notification texts if calls to numbers corresponding to the first subscriber identification module extend beyond the designated time. Furthermore, the services provided by the communication system described above are limited to those that require separate subscriptions to a separate plan.
[0010] An IMS (IP multimedia subsystem) server includes a memory and a processor, and the processor receives a message requesting IMS (IP multimedia subsystem) registration of the electronic device from an electronic device including a first subscriber identification module storing first subscriber identification information and a second subscriber identification module storing second subscriber identification information, performs IMS registration for the second subscriber identification module of the electronic device based on the second subscriber identification information included in the message, requests a call connection using the second subscriber identification module to the electronic device based on receiving a call request for the electronic device from an external electronic device, transmits a message indicating that the electronic device is on a call to the external electronic device based on a call connection request time for the electronic device exceeding a specified level, receives a message including information about a call start time and a call end time using the first subscriber identification module from the electronic device, and determines whether a call connection request using the second subscriber identification module has occurred between the call start time and the call end time using the first subscriber identification module based on the received message.
[0011] A communication system may include an electronic device supporting a DSDS (dual standby subscriber identity module), a first server responsible for registering a first subscriber identity module with an IP multimedia subsystem (IMS), a second server responsible for registering a second subscriber identity module with an IMS, and a processor. The processor controls the first subscriber identification module to transmit a message indicating call termination to the second subscriber identification module based on the termination of a call between the electronic device using the first subscriber identification module and the first external electronic device, transmits information about the start time and the end time of the call using the first subscriber identification module to a second server using the second subscriber identification module, verifies call history requested to the second subscriber identification module between the start time and the end time of the call using the first subscriber identification module using the second server, transmits a message notifying that there has been a call attempt from the second external electronic device to the electronic device based on the existence of a call request from the second external electronic device, and verifies the call history requested to the second subscriber identification module between the start time and the end time of the call using the first subscriber identification module using the second server.
[0012] In a method of operating a communication system, when a first subscriber identity module is registered in an IMS on a first server and an electronic device registers a second subscriber identity module in an IMS, an operation of transmitting a SIP (session initiation protocol) REGISTER message including a UUID (universally unique ID) of the first subscriber identity module to a second server using the second subscriber identity module; an operation of transmitting information including a UUID (universally unique ID) of the first subscriber identity module to the first server using the second server after the second subscriber identity module is registered in an IMS on the second server; an operation of transmitting information notifying that the first subscriber identity module is in a call to the second server in a situation where a call connection is established between a first external electronic device and an electronic device using the first subscriber identity module; and an operation of transmitting a message notifying that the electronic device is currently in a call to the second external electronic device using the second server based on a call request using the second subscriber identity module detected from the second external electronic device in a situation where the first subscriber identity module is in a call. The operation may include storing the missed call of the second external electronic device on the second server.
[0013] A communication system including a plurality of subscriber identification modules according to the present document and an operating method thereof can immediately notify a called party of missed calls that may be missed due to functional and structural limitations of an electronic device using a dual sim dual standby (DSDS) method.
[0014] A communication system including a plurality of subscriber identification modules according to the present document and an operating method thereof can immediately provide information indicating to a caller that a called party is on a call when the called party of an electronic device using a DSDS (dual sim dual standby) method is on a call.

Additionally, according to one embodiment, the first communication processor (212) or the second communication processor (214) may establish a communication channel corresponding to another designated band (e.g., about 6 GHz or less) among the bands to be used for wireless communication with the second network (294), and support 5G network communication through the established communication channel. According to one embodiment, the first communication processor (212) and the second communication processor (214) may be implemented in a single chip or a single package. According to one embodiment, the first communication processor (212) or the second communication processor (214) may be formed in a single chip or a single package with the processor (120), the auxiliary processor (123), or the communication module (190).
[0057] In one embodiment, the first communication processor (212) can transmit and receive data with the second communication processor (214). For example, data classified to be transmitted via the second network (294) may be changed to be transmitted via the first network (292).
[0058] In this case, the first communication processor (212) can receive transmission data from the second communication processor (214). For example, the first communication processor (212) can transmit and receive data to and from the second communication processor (214) through an inter-processor interface. For example, the inter-processor interface can be implemented as a universal asynchronous receiver / transmitter (UART) (e.g., high speed-UART (HS-UART)) or a peripheral component interconnect bus express (PCIe) interface, but there is no limitation on the type thereof. For example, the first communication processor (212) and the second communication processor (214) can exchange control information and packet data information using a shared memory. For example, the first communication processor (212) can transmit and receive various information, such as sensing information, information on output strength, and RB (resource block) allocation information, with the second communication processor (214).
[0059] Depending on the implementation, the first communication processor (212) may not be directly connected to the second communication processor (214). In this case, the first communication processor (212) may transmit and receive data with the second communication processor (214) through the processor (120) (e.g., application processor). For example, the first communication processor (212) and the second communication processor (214) may transmit and receive data with the processor (120) (e.g., application processor) through an HS-UART interface or a PCIe interface, but there is no limitation on the type of interface. For example, the first communication processor (212) and the second communication processor (214) may exchange control information and packet data information with the processor (120) (e.g., application processor) using shared memory. In one embodiment, the first communication processor (212) and the second communication processor (214) may be implemented within a single chip or a single package. In one embodiment, the first communication processor (212) or the second communication processor (214) may be formed within a single chip or a single package with the processor (120), the auxiliary processor (123), or the communication module (190).
[0060] The first RFIC (222) may, upon transmission, convert a baseband signal generated by the first communication processor (212) into a radio frequency (RF) signal of about 700 MHz to about 3 GHz used in the first network (292) (e.g., a legacy network). Upon reception, the RF signal may be acquired from the first network (292) (e.g., a legacy network) via an antenna (e.g., the first antenna module (242)) and preprocessed via an RFFE (e.g., the first RFFE (232)). The first RFIC (222) may convert the preprocessed RF signal into a baseband signal so that it may be processed by the first communication processor (212).
[0061] The second RFIC (224) may, upon transmission, convert a baseband signal generated by the first communication processor (212) or the second communication processor (214) into an RF signal (hereinafter, a 5G Sub6 RF signal) of a Sub6 band (e.g., about 6 GHz or less) used in the second network (294) (e.g., a 5G network). Upon reception, the 5G Sub6 RF signal may be acquired from the second network (294) (e.g., a 5G network) via an antenna (e.g., the second antenna module (244)) and preprocessed via an RFFE (e.g., the second RFFE (234)). The second RFIC (224) may convert the preprocessed 5G Sub6 RF signal into a baseband signal so that the preprocessed 5G Sub6 RF signal may be processed by a corresponding communication processor among the first communication processor (212) or the second communication processor (214).
[0062] The third RFIC (226) can convert a baseband signal generated by the second communication processor (214) into an RF signal (hereinafter, 5G Above6 RF signal) of a 5G Above6 band (e.g., about 6 GHz to about 60 GHz) to be used in the second network (294) (e.g., 5G network). Upon reception, the 5G Above6 RF signal can be acquired from the second network (294) (e.g., 5G network) via an antenna (e.g., antenna (248)) and preprocessed via the third RFFE (236). The third RFIC (226) can convert the preprocessed 5G Above6 RF signal into a baseband signal so that it can be processed by the second communication processor (214). According to one embodiment, the third RFFE (236) can be formed as a part of the third RFIC (226).
[0063] The electronic device (101) may, according to one embodiment, include a fourth RFIC (228) separate from or at least as a part of the third RFIC (226). In this case, the fourth RFIC (228) may convert a baseband signal generated by the second communication processor (214) into an RF signal (hereinafter, referred to as an IF signal) of an intermediate frequency band (e.g., about 9 GHz to about 11 GHz) and then transmit the IF signal to the third RFIC (226). The third RFIC (226) may convert the IF signal into a 5G Above6 RF signal. Upon reception, the 5G Above6 RF signal may be received from the second network (294) (e.g., a 5G network) via an antenna (e.g., antenna (248)) and converted into an IF signal by the third RFIC (226). The fourth RFIC (228) can convert the IF signal into a baseband signal so that the second communication processor (214) can process it.
[0064] According to one embodiment, the first RFIC (222) and the second RFIC (224) may be implemented as a single chip or at least a portion of a single package. According to one embodiment, the first RFFE (232) and the second RFFE (234) may be implemented as a single chip or at least a portion of a single package. According to one embodiment, at least one antenna module of the first antenna module (242) or the second antenna module (244) may be omitted or combined with another antenna module to process RF signals of corresponding multiple bands.
[0065] In one embodiment, the third RFIC (226) and the antenna (248) may be disposed on the same substrate to form a third antenna module (246). For example, the wireless communication module (192) or the processor (120) may be disposed on the first substrate (e.g., the main PCB). In this case, the third RFIC (226) may be disposed on a portion (e.g., the lower surface) of a second substrate (e.g., the sub PCB) separate from the first substrate, and the antenna (248) may be disposed on another portion (e.g., the upper surface) of the second substrate, thereby forming the third antenna module (246). By disposing the third RFIC (226) and the antenna (248) on the same substrate, it is possible to reduce the length of the transmission line therebetween. This can reduce, for example, the loss (e.g., attenuation) of signals in the high-frequency band (e.g., about 6 GHz to about 60 GHz) used in 5G network communications due to transmission line transmission. As a result, the electronic device (101) can improve the quality or speed of communication with the second network (294) (e.g., the 5G network).
[0066] In one embodiment, the antenna (248) may be formed as an antenna array including a plurality of antenna elements that may be used for beamforming. In this case, the third RFIC (226) may include a plurality of phase shifters (238) corresponding to the plurality of antenna elements, for example, as part of the third RFFE (236). Upon transmission, each of the plurality of phase shifters (238) may shift the phase of a 5G Above6 RF signal to be transmitted to an external source (e.g., a base station of a 5G network) of the electronic device (101) via its corresponding antenna element. Upon reception, each of the plurality of phase shifters (238) may shift the phase of a 5G Above6 RF signal received from the external source via its corresponding antenna element to the same or substantially the same phase. This enables transmission or reception via beamforming between the electronic device (101) and the external source.
[0067] The second network (294) (e.g., a 5G network) may operate independently (e.g., stand-alone (SA)) or connectedly (e.g., non-stand-alone (NSA)) from the first network (292) (e.g., a legacy network). For example, the 5G network may only have an access network (e.g., a 5G radio access network (RAN) or next generation RAN (NG RAN)) and no core network (e.g., next generation core (NGC)). In this case, the electronic device (101) may access an external network (e.g., the Internet) under the control of the core network (e.g., evolved packed core (EPC)) of the legacy network after accessing the access network of the 5G network. Protocol information for communication with a legacy network (e.g., LTE protocol information) or protocol information for communication with a 5G network (e.g., new radio (NR) protocol information) may be stored in the memory (130) and accessed by other components (e.g., the processor (120), the first communication processor (212), or the second communication processor (214)).

[0077] According to one embodiment, a 4G network (392) may include a long term evolution (LTE) base station (340) and an evolved packed core (EPC) (342). [0080] FIG. 4 is a block diagram of an electronic device supporting multiple subscriber identification modules according to one embodiment.
[0081] According to one embodiment referring to FIG. 4, the electronic device (101) may include a processor (400), a first subscriber identity module (SIM) (410), a second subscriber identity module (420), a communication circuit (430), and / or a memory (440). According to one embodiment, the processor (400) may be substantially the same as the processor (120) of FIG. 1 or may be included in the processor (120). The first subscriber identity module (410) and the second subscriber identity module (420) may be substantially the same as the subscriber identity module (196) of FIG. 1 or may be included in the subscriber identity module (196). The communication circuit (430) may be substantially the same as the wireless communication module (192) of FIG. 1 or may be included in the wireless communication module (192). The memory (440) may be substantially the same as the memory (130) of FIG. 1 or may be included in the memory (130). According to one embodiment, the processor (400) may be operatively, functionally, and / or electrically connected to a first subscriber identification module (410), a second subscriber identification module (420), a communication circuit (430), and / or a memory (440). According to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) includes, but is not limited to, a first subscriber identification module (410) and a second subscriber identification module (420). The electronic device (101) may also include three or more subscriber identification modules.
[0082] According to one embodiment, the subscriber identification modules (410 and 420) may store subscriber identification information (e.g., international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI)) for connection, authentication, billing, and / or security of the wireless network.
[0083] According to one embodiment, the first subscriber identification module (410) may store first subscriber identification information (e.g., international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI)) for the electronic device (101) to use for connection (or communication) with a first cellular network and / or a second cellular network operated by a first communication service provider (or a first mobile communication service provider). For example, the first cellular network and / or the second cellular network may include at least one of a second generation (2G) network, a third generation (3G) network, a fourth generation (4G) network (e.g., long term evolution (LTE)), or a fifth generation (5G) network (e.g., new radio (NR)).
[0084] The first IMS stack (or protocol stack) corresponding to the first subscriber identification module (410) can recognize the first subscriber identification module (410) and transmit and receive a message (e.g., a SIP (session initiation protocol) message) to attempt IMS registration to an external server or external electronic device.
[0085] In one embodiment, the second subscriber identification module (420) may store second subscriber identification information (e.g., IMSI) for the electronic device (101) to use for connection (or communication) with a third cellular network and / or a fourth cellular network operated by a second communication service provider (or a second mobile communication service provider). For example, the third cellular network and / or the fourth cellular network may include at least one of a 2G network, a 3G network, a 4G network (e.g., LTE), or a 5G network (e.g., NR).
[0086] A second IMS stack (or protocol stack) corresponding to the second subscriber identification module (420) can recognize the second subscriber identification module (420) and transmit and receive a message (e.g., a SIP (session initiation protocol) message) to attempt IMS registration to an external server or external electronic device.
[0087] According to one embodiment, the first subscriber identification module (410) and / or the second subscriber identification module (420) may be configured in the form of a first type (e.g., an embedded SIM (eSIM) or an embedded universal integrated circuit card (eUICC)) directly embedded in the electronic device (101). For example, when the first subscriber identification module (410) and / or the second subscriber identification module (420) are configured in the form of the first type, the electronic device (101) may store information related to the first subscriber identification module (420) and / or the second subscriber identification module (530) in a security chip disposed on a circuit board of the electronic device (101) through remote SIM provisioning during the manufacturing process of the electronic device (101).
[0088] According to one embodiment, the first subscriber identification module (410) and / or the second subscriber identification module (420) may be configured in the form of a second type (e.g., an integrated circuit (IC) card) and may be mounted in a slot of the electronic device (101).
[0089] According to one embodiment, the processor (400) may control components of the electronic device (101) (e.g., the first subscriber identification module (410), the second subscriber identification module (420), the communication circuit (430), and / or the memory (440)). According to one embodiment, the processor (400) may include an application processor (AP) (e.g., the main processor (121) of FIG. 1) and / or a communication processor (CP) (e.g., the auxiliary processor (123) of FIG. 1 or the communication module (190) of FIG. 1).
[0090] Alternatively, the electronic device (101) may include a server. For example, the electronic device (101) may be an IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) server that performs IMS registration for a subscriber identity module (SIM).
[0091] The server may include a processor (e.g., processor (120) of FIG. 1) and memory (e.g., memory (130) of FIG. 1). The processor (120) of the server may have a different configuration from the processor (400) of the electronic device (e.g., terminal).
[0092] According to one embodiment, the processor (120) may receive a message requesting IMS (IP multimedia subsystem) registration of the electronic device (e.g., terminal A) including a first subscriber identification module storing first subscriber identification information and a second subscriber identification module storing second subscriber identification information, and may perform IMS registration for the second subscriber identification module of the electronic device based on the second subscriber identification information included in the message. The processor (120) may request a call connection using the second subscriber identification module to the electronic device based on receiving a call request for the electronic device from an external electronic device (e.g., terminal B), and may transmit a message indicating that the electronic device is on a call to the external electronic device based on a call connection request time for the electronic device exceeding a designated level.
[0093] According to one embodiment, the processor (120) may receive a message including information about a call start time and a call end time using the first subscriber identification module from the electronic device, and may determine, based on the received message, whether a call connection request using the second subscriber identification module has occurred between the call start time and the call end time using the first subscriber identification module. The processor (120) may transmit a message indicating that a missed call has occurred by an external electronic device to the electronic device based on whether a call connection request using the second subscriber identification module has occurred between the call start time and the call end time using the first subscriber identification module.
[0094] According to one embodiment, the processor (120) may receive a message including information about a call start time and a call end time using a first subscriber identification module from an electronic device (e.g., terminal A), and, based on the received message, determine whether a call connection request using a second subscriber identification module has occurred between the call start time and the call end time using the first subscriber identification module. Based on the presence of a call connection request using the second subscriber identification module between the call start time and the call end time using the first subscriber identification module, the processor (120) may transmit a message indicating that a call of the electronic device is possible to an external electronic device (e.g., terminal B).
[0095] According to one embodiment, the processor (120) may store the time at which a call request was received on the memory (130) based on the fact that a call connection request using the second subscriber identification module occurred between the call start time and the call end time using the first subscriber identification module.
[0096] The processor (120) may receive a message requesting IMS (IP multimedia subsystem) registration of the electronic device (e.g., terminal A) including a first subscriber identification module storing first subscriber identification information and a second subscriber identification module storing second subscriber identification information, and may perform IMS registration for the second subscriber identification module of the electronic device based on the second subscriber identification information included in the message. If the message includes the first subscriber identification information, the processor (120) may determine that the electronic device supports a DSDS (dual SIM dual standby) mode.
[0097] When the processor (120) receives a message from another IMS server corresponding to the first subscriber identification information indicating that the electronic device is performing a call via the first cellular network corresponding to the first subscriber identification information, the processor (120) can confirm that the electronic device is performing a call via the first cellular network. The processor (120) can transmit a message indicating that the electronic device is performing a call to the external electronic device (e.g., terminal B) based on receiving a call request for the electronic device from the external electronic device.
[0098] According to one embodiment, when the processor (120) receives a message from an IMS server corresponding to the first subscriber identification information indicating that a call has been terminated through a first cellular network corresponding to the first subscriber identification information, the electronic device (e.g., terminal A) may confirm that the call has been terminated through the first cellular network and transmit a message indicating that a missed call has occurred by an external electronic device to the electronic device.
[0099] According to one embodiment, when the processor (120) receives a message from an IMS server corresponding to the first subscriber identification information indicating that a call has been terminated through the first cellular network corresponding to the first subscriber identification information, the electronic device may confirm that the call has been terminated through the first cellular network and transmit a message indicating that a call is possible through the electronic device to an external electronic device.
[0100] According to one embodiment, the processor (120) may transmit a message indicating that a missed call has occurred from an external electronic device (e.g., terminal B) to an electronic device (e.g., terminal A) using a session initiation protocol (SIP) message, and / or may transmit a message indicating that a call from the current electronic device is possible to an external electronic device using a session initiation protocol (SIP) message.
[0101] According to one embodiment, the processor (120) may store the time at which the call request is received from the external electronic device on the memory (130) based on receiving a call request for the electronic device from the external electronic device while the electronic device is making a call over the first cellular network.
[0102] FIG. 5a and FIG. 5b illustrate an embodiment of controlling a plurality of subscriber identification modules on a communication system according to the present document.
[0103] The communication system may include an electronic device (101), a first server (501), a second server (503), a first external electronic device (505), and a second external electronic device (507). The electronic device (101) may include a first subscriber identification module (410) and a second subscriber identification module (420). The first subscriber identification module (410) and the second subscriber identification module (420) have been described in FIG. 4.
[0104] The first server (501) may include an IMS (IP multimedia subsystem) server of the first subscriber identification module (410). The second server (503) may include an IMS server of the second subscriber identification module (420). IMS registration may refer to a process in which an electronic device (101) registers on a network to use a service within a communication system. A service provider may determine which services can be provided to the electronic device (101) based on the IMS registration.
[0105] Below, the procedure for registering an IMS on the first server (501) and the operations (operations 511 to 552) for registering an IMS on the second server (503) will be described. The order of each operation may be changed, some of the operations may be omitted, or they may be performed in parallel.
[0106] The first server (501) and the second server (502) may be capable of information linkage through an inter-operator contract. In a state where neither the first subscriber identification module (410) nor the second subscriber identification module (420) are IMS registered, the first IMS stack (or protocol stack) corresponding to the first subscriber identification module (410) may transmit a message to the first server (501) to attempt IMS registration.
[0107] In operation 511 of FIG. 5a, the first IMS stack (or protocol stack) corresponding to the first subscriber identification module (410) may transmit a message (e.g., SIP REGISTER) for attempting IMS registration to the first server (501). At this time, the message (e.g., SIP REGISTER) for IMS registration may not include information (e.g., UUID (universally unique ID)) of the second subscriber identification module (420).
[0108] In operation 513 of FIG. 5a, the first server (501) may transmit a message (e.g., SIP REGISTER 200 OK) indicating that IMS registration has been completed to the first subscriber identification module (410).
[0109] When the IMS registration of the first subscriber identification module (410) is completed, the second IMS stack corresponding to the second subscriber identification module (420) can transmit a message for attempting IMS registration to the second server (503). In operation 515, the second IMS stack corresponding to the second subscriber identification module (420) can transmit a message (e.g., SIP REGISTER) for attempting IMS registration to the second server (503). At this time, the message for IMS registration (e.g., SIP REGISTER) may include information (e.g., UUID (universally unique ID)) of the first subscriber identification module (410). Specifically, information (e.g., UUID (universally unique ID)) of the first subscriber identification module (410) may be included in the Ex-contacts field of the SIP REGISTER message.
[0110] The SIP REGISTER message transmitted from the second IMS stack corresponding to the second subscriber identification module (420) to the second server (503) may include information as shown in [Table 1].
[0111] REGISTER sip:example.com SIP / 2.0Via: SIP / 2.0 / TCP 192.0.2.2;branch=z9hG4bK-bad0ce-11-1036Max-Forwards: 70From Bob sip:bob@example.com;tag=d879h76To: Bob sip:bob@example.comCall-ID: 8921348ju72fe840.204CSeq: 1 REGISTERSupported: path, outboundContact: sipline1@192.0.2.2;transport=tcp; reg-id=1;;+sip.instance=””Content-Length: 0 / Add contact header information of SIM1Ex-Contacts: +sip.instance=””
[0112] The second server (503) can use the information (e.g., universally unique ID (UUID)) of the first subscriber identification module (410) to confirm that the electronic device (101) is currently using the first subscriber identification module (410) as a dual SIM and is registered with the IMS.
[0113] If the first subscriber identification module (410) is not registered with the IMS at the time the second subscriber identification module (420) attempts to register with the IMS, the information (e.g., universally unique ID (UUID)) of the first subscriber identification module (410) may not be included in the SIP REGISTER message. The above-described operations may be performed by sharing the IMS registration status among the IMS stacks within a modem that manages multiple subscriber identification modules. Alternatively, the above-described operations may be performed in the IMS upper layer of the application processor.
[0114] In operation 517 of FIG. 5a, the second server (503) may transmit a message (e.g., SIP REGISTER 200 OK) indicating that IMS registration of the second subscriber identification module (420) has been completed.
[0115] Thereafter, in operation 519 of FIG. 5a, the second server (503) may transmit a message to the first server (501) indicating that the first subscriber identification module (410) and the second subscriber identification module (420) of the electronic device (101) have been IMS registered with dual SIM.
[0116] The second server (503) can transmit the UUID of the first subscriber identification module (410) to all IMS servers and determine that the server from which the response is received is the first server (501).
[0117] Alternatively, the second server (503) may distinguish the business operator based on a specific value of the UUID and determine the first server (501) based on the distinguished business operator information.
[0118] Alternatively, the second server (503) may receive the UUID of the first subscriber identification module (410) from the electronic device (101), and may also receive, separately from the UUID, operator-related information that can identify the operator of the first subscriber identification module (410). The second server (503) may search for the first server (501) based on the received operator-related information and transmit the UUID of the first subscriber identification module (410).
[0119] In this process, the first server (501) and the second server (503) can confirm (or recognize) that the first subscriber identification module (410) and the second subscriber identification module (420) are dual SIMs.
[0120] In operation 520 of FIG. 5B, the electronic device (101) may use the first subscriber identification module (410) to determine whether a call is being attempted to an external electronic device (e.g., the first external electronic device (505)). The first external electronic device (505) may include a terminal capable of providing call service.
[0121] The electronic device (101) may repeat operation 520 based on not attempting to make a call to the first external electronic device (505) (operation 520-No). The electronic device (101) may perform operation 522 based on attempting to make a call to the first external electronic device (505) (operation 520-Yes).
[0122] In operation 522 of FIG. 5b, the first subscriber identification module (410) may request a call connection with the first external electronic device (505) to the first server (501).
[0123] In operation 524 of FIG. 5B, the electronic device (101) can perform a call connection with the first external electronic device (505) using the first subscriber identification module (410). Operation 526 indicates a state in which the electronic device (101) is in a call connection with the first external electronic device (505) using the first subscriber identification module (410). Operations 520 to 524 have been described assuming a situation in which the electronic device (101) requests a call connection to the external electronic device (505), but the call connection can also be performed by operation 526 in a situation in which the electronic device (101) receives a call connection request from the external electronic device (505).
[0124] In operation 528 of FIG. 5b, the first server (501) may transmit a message to the second server (503) indicating that the electronic device (101) is making a call using the first subscriber identification module (410).
[0125] In operation 530 of FIG. 5b, the second server (503) can confirm that the electronic device (101) is making a call using the first subscriber identification module (410) based on a message received from the first server (501).
[0126] In a subsequent operation 532 of FIG. 5B, a call request may be generated from a second external electronic device (507) to a second subscriber identification module (420). The second server (503) may receive the call request from the second external electronic device (507). The second external electronic device (507), like the first external electronic device (505), may include a terminal capable of providing call services.
[0127] In operation 534 of FIG. 5B, the second server (503) may transmit a message to the second external electronic device (507) indicating that the electronic device (101) is currently on a call. The second server (503) may use a SIP message indicating that the call is in progress or may use another SIP message indicating that the call is in progress due to the dual SIM status.
[0128] Thereafter, in operation 536 of FIG. 5b, the second server (503) may store the missed call received from the second external electronic device (507) in memory (e.g., memory (440) of FIG. 4). The second server (503) may store the time at which the missed call was attempted from the second external electronic device (507) in memory (440).
[0129] In operation 540 of FIG. 5B, the electronic device (101) can check whether the call with the first external electronic device (505) has ended. If the call with the first external electronic device (505) has not ended (operation 540-No), the electronic device (101) can periodically repeat operation 540.
[0130] Based on the termination of the call with the first external electronic device (505) (operation 540-Yes), in operation 542, the electronic device (101) may transmit a message (e.g., a SIP message) to the first server (501) indicating that the call with the first external electronic device (505) has been terminated. In operation 544, the first server (501) may confirm that the call between the electronic device (101) and the first external electronic device (505) has been terminated.
[0131] In operation 546 of FIG. 5B, the first server (501) may transmit a message to the second server (503) indicating that the call using the first subscriber identification module (410) has ended. In operation 548, the second server (503) may confirm that the call using the first subscriber identification module (410) has ended based on the message received from the first server (501).
[0132] In operation 550 of FIG. 5B, the second server (503) may transmit a message to the second external electronic device (507) indicating that the call with the electronic device (101) has ended and that a call is now possible. Operation 550 may not be a mandatory operation, and operation 550 may be omitted after operation 548 and operation 552 may be performed.
[0133] In operation 552 of FIG. 5b, the second server (503) may transmit a message indicating that there has been a missed call from the second external electronic device (507) to the second subscriber identification module (420). The method for transmitting the message indicating that there has been a missed call on the second server (503) may utilize a text value-added service or a SIP message.
[0134] FIG. 6a and FIG. 6b illustrate an embodiment of controlling multiple subscriber identification modules on a communication system according to the present document.
[0135] The operations of FIGS. 6a and 6b can be performed independently of FIGS. 5a and 5b.
[0136] The operations in FIGS. 6A and 6B may be performed in different order, some operations may be omitted, or may be performed in parallel.
[0137] The communication system may include an electronic device (101), a first server (601), a second server (603), a first external electronic device (605), and a second external electronic device (607). The electronic device (101) may include a first subscriber identification module (410) and a second subscriber identification module (420). The first subscriber identification module (410) and the second subscriber identification module (420) have been described in FIG. 4.
[0138] The first server (601) may include an IMS (IP multimedia subsystem) server of the first subscriber identification module (410). The second server (603) may include an IMS server of the second subscriber identification module (420). IMS registration may refer to a process in which an electronic device (101) registers on a network to use a service within a communication system. A service provider may determine which services can be provided to the electronic device (101) based on the IMS registration.
[0139] In operation 611 of FIG. 6a, the first subscriber identification module (410) may transmit a message (e.g., SIP REGISTER) for attempting IMS registration to the first server (601). At this time, the message (e.g., SIP REGISTER) for IMS registration may not include information (e.g., UUID (universally unique ID)) of the second subscriber identification module (420).
[0140] In operation 613 of FIG. 6a, the first server (601) may transmit a message (e.g., SIP REGISTER 200 OK) indicating that IMS registration has been completed to the first subscriber identification module (410).
[0141] When the IMS registration of the first subscriber identification module (410) is completed, the protocol stack of the second subscriber identification module (420) can transmit a message for attempting IMS registration to the first server (601). In operation 615, the second subscriber identification module (420) can transmit a message (e.g., SIP REGISTER) for attempting IMS registration to the second server (603). At this time, the message (e.g., SIP REGISTER) for IMS registration may not include information (e.g., UUID (universally unique ID)) of the first subscriber identification module (410).
[0142] In operation 617 of FIG. 6a, the second server (603) may transmit a message (e.g., SIP REGISTER 200 OK) indicating that the IMS registration of the second subscriber identification module (420) has been completed. Through operation 617, the IMS registration of the second subscriber identification module (420) may be completed.
[0143] In operation 620 of FIG. 6A, the electronic device (101) can use the first subscriber identification module (410) to determine whether a call is being attempted to an external electronic device, for example, a first external electronic device (605). The first external electronic device (605) may include a terminal capable of providing call service.
[0144] The electronic device (101) may repeat operation 620 based on not attempting to make a call to the first external electronic device (605) (operation 620-No). The electronic device (101) may perform operation 622 based on attempting to make a call to the first external electronic device (605) (operation 620-Yes).
[0145] In operation 622 of FIG. 6A, the first subscriber identification module (410) may request a call with the first external electronic device (605) to the first server (601). In operation 624, the electronic device (101) may establish a call connection with the first external electronic device (605) using the first subscriber identification module (410). The first server (601) may confirm that the electronic device (101) is on a call using the first subscriber identification module (410).
[0146] In operations 620 to 624, the situation in which the electronic device (101) requests a call connection to an external electronic device (505) is described, but a call connection can also be made in a situation in which the electronic device (101) receives a call connection request from an external electronic device (605).
[0147] In operation 630 of FIG. 6b, the second external electronic device (607) may transmit a message requesting a call connection to the second server (603) for a call connection with the electronic device (101).
[0148] In operation 632 of FIG. 6B, the second server (603) may request a call reception to the second subscriber identification module (420) based on a call connection request from the second external electronic device (607). At this time, the second server (402) may not have confirmed that the electronic device (101) is on a call using the first subscriber identification module (410). The electronic device (101) may not be able to respond to the call reception request to the second subscriber identification module (420) due to antenna occupancy while on a call using the first subscriber identification module (410).
[0149] In operation 640 of FIG. 6B, the second server (603) may request an incoming call to the second subscriber identification module (420) and determine whether the connection attempt time exceeds a specified time (e.g., n seconds). The second server (603) may repeat operation 640 based on (operation 640-No) that the call connection attempt time is less than the specified time (e.g., n seconds). The specified time (e.g., n seconds) may vary depending on the setting. The second server (603) may perform operation 642 based on (operation 640-Yes) that the call connection attempt time is equal to or greater than the specified time (e.g., n seconds).
[0150] In operation 642 of FIG. 6b, the second server (603) may transmit a message to the second external electronic device (607) indicating that the call connection has failed.
[0151] In subsequent operation 650, the electronic device (101) can check whether the call with the first external electronic device (605) has ended. If the call with the first external electronic device (605) has not ended (operation 650-No), the electronic device (101) can periodically repeat operation 650.
[0152] The electronic device (101) may, based on the termination of the call with the first external electronic device (605) (operation 650-Yes), transmit a message to the first server (601) indicating that the call with the first external electronic device (605) has been terminated in operation 652.
[0153] After the call between the electronic device (101) and the first external electronic device (605) is terminated, in operation 654, the first protocol stack (or IMS stack) including the first subscriber module (410) may notify the second protocol stack (or IMS stack) including the second subscriber module (420) that the call of the first protocol stack including the first subscriber identification module (410) has been terminated. At this time, the first protocol stack and the second protocol stack may include a dedicated module in charge of call service at the modem end.
[0154] The first protocol stack and the second protocol stack may utilize dedicated messages between the multiple stacks to indicate call termination. Alternatively, the first protocol stack and the second protocol stack may update call status between the multiple stacks to indicate call termination. Alternatively, a processor (e.g., processor (400) of FIG. 4) may manage all of the multiple protocol stacks and indicate that the call of the first protocol stack, including the first subscriber identification module (410), has been terminated.
[0155] In operation 656 of FIG. 6b, the protocol stack of the second subscriber identification module (420) may transmit a message indicating that a call using the first subscriber identification module (410) has ended to the second server (603). The message indicating that a call using the first subscriber identification module (410) has ended may include information about the call start time and call end time using the first subscriber identification module (410).
[0156] At this time, the electronic device (101) can transmit information about the call start time and call end time using the first subscriber identification module (410) to the second server (603) using a message as shown in [Table 2] below.

[0158] The call time and end time can be indicated as the "start-time" tag and the "end-time" tag, respectively, within the "call-info-data" XML. The call time can be indicated, for example, in the Unix time format. In operation 658 of FIG. 6b, the second server (603) can check the call history to determine whether a call request was made to the second subscriber identification module (420) during the call time using the first subscriber identification module (410) based on the received information.
[0159] In operation 660 of FIG. 6B, the second server (603) may transmit a message indicating a reason for a call failure to the second external electronic device (607) based on the presence of a call request to the second subscriber identification module (420) during a call time using the first subscriber identification module (410). The message indicating a reason for a call failure may include information indicating that a call was in progress using the first subscriber identification module (410). Operation 660 may not be a mandatory operation, and operation 660 may be omitted after operation 658 and operation 662 may be performed.
[0160] The second server (603) can transmit a message indicating that the current call of the electronic device (101) has ended and / or a message indicating that the current call of the electronic device (101) is possible to the second external electronic device (607).
[0161] In operation 662 of FIG. 6B, the second server (603) may transmit a message indicating that there has been a missed call from the second external electronic device (607) to the electronic device (101). The method for transmitting the message indicating that there has been a missed call on the second server (603) may utilize a text value-added service or a SIP message.
[0162] FIG. 7 illustrates a configuration for managing missed calls on a communication system according to one embodiment.
[0163] Reference number 700 illustrates a database (DB) that stores call records on a second server (e.g., the second server (603) of FIG. 6a).
[0164] In operation 710 of FIG. 7, the second server (603) may store call requests received from at least one external electronic device in a database (DB). When the electronic device (e.g., the electronic device (101) of FIG. 1) is capable of making a call, the second server (603) may use the second subscriber identification module (e.g., the second subscriber identification module (420) of FIG. 4) to establish a call connection between the external electronic device and the electronic device (101).
[0165] In operation 712 of FIG. 7, the second server (603) may store in the database (DB) a call request received from an external electronic device as a missed call when the electronic device (101) is on a call using the first subscriber identification module (e.g., the first subscriber identification module (410) of FIG. 4). In addition, the second server (603) may store in the database (DB) the time at which the missed call was received.
[0166] In operation 714 of FIG. 7, the second server (603) may receive a message from the first server (e.g., the first server (601) of FIG. 6) indicating that a call using the first subscriber identification module (410) has ended. The second server (603) may check information about the start time and end time of the call using the first subscriber identification module (410).
[0167] In operation 716 of FIG. 7, the second server (603) can check whether there is a missed call record for the second subscriber identification module (420) between the start time and end time of the call using the first subscriber identification module (410).
[0168] In operation 718 of FIG. 7, the second server (603) may transmit a message to the first server (601) indicating that there was a missed call based on the existence of a missed call record between the start time and the end time of the call using the first subscriber identification module (410).
[0169] The processor (120) of the second server (603) receives a message requesting IMS (IP multimedia subsystem) registration of the electronic device (e.g., terminal A) including a first subscriber identification module storing first subscriber identification information and a second subscriber identification module storing second subscriber identification information, and may perform IMS registration for the second subscriber identification module of the electronic device (e.g., terminal A) based on the second subscriber identification information included in the message. The processor (120) may request a call connection to the electronic device (e.g., terminal A) using the second subscriber identification module based on receiving a call request for the electronic device (e.g., terminal A) from an external electronic device (e.g., terminal B), and may transmit a message indicating that the electronic device (e.g., terminal A) is on a call to the external electronic device (e.g., terminal B) based on a call connection request time for the electronic device (e.g., terminal A) exceeding a specified level.
[0170] The processor (120) of the second server (603) may receive a message including information about a call start time and a call end time using the first subscriber identification module from an electronic device (e.g., terminal A), and may determine, based on the received message, whether a call connection request using the second subscriber identification module has occurred between the call start time and the call end time using the first subscriber identification module. The processor (120) may transmit a message indicating that a missed call has occurred by an external electronic device (e.g., terminal B) to the electronic device (e.g., terminal A), based on whether a call connection request using the second subscriber identification module has occurred between the call start time and the call end time using the first subscriber identification module.
[0171] The processor (120) of the second server (603) may receive a message including information about a call start time and a call end time using the first subscriber identification module from an electronic device (e.g., terminal A), and may determine, based on the received message, whether a call connection request using the second subscriber identification module has occurred between the call start time and the call end time using the first subscriber identification module. The processor (120) may transmit a message indicating that a call is possible from the electronic device (e.g., terminal A) to an external electronic device (e.g., terminal B) based on whether a call connection request using the second subscriber identification module has occurred between the call start time and the call end time using the first subscriber identification module.
[0172] The processor (120) of the second server (603) can store the time at which the call request was received in the memory (130) based on the fact that a call connection request using the second subscriber identification module was made between the call start time and the call end time using the first subscriber identification module.
[0173] FIG. 8 is a flowchart illustrating an embodiment of controlling multiple subscriber identification modules on a second server according to this document.
[0174] The operations described through FIG. 8 may be implemented based on instructions that may be stored in a computer recording medium or memory (e.g., memory (130) of FIG. 1). The illustrated method may be executed by an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101) of FIG. 1) described above through FIGS. 1 to 7, and the technical features described above will be omitted below. The order of each operation of FIG. 8 may be changed, some operations may be omitted, and some operations may be performed simultaneously.
[0175] In operation 810 of FIG. 8, a second server (e.g., the second server (603) of FIG. 6) may receive a message requesting IMS (IP multimedia subsystem) registration of an electronic device (101). The second server (603) may receive a message requesting IMS (IP multimedia subsystem) registration of an electronic device (101) from an electronic device (101) including a first subscriber identification module (410) storing first subscriber identification information and a second subscriber identification module (420) storing second subscriber identification information.
[0176] The first server (e.g., the first server (601) of FIG. 6) may include an IMS (IP multimedia subsystem) server of the first subscriber identification module (410). The second server (603) may include an IMS server of the second subscriber identification module (420). IMS registration may refer to a process in which an electronic device (101) registers on a network to use a service within a communication system. A service provider may determine which services can be provided to the electronic device (101) based on the IMS registration.
[0177] The first server (601) and the second server (603) may be able to link information through an inter-operator agreement. When neither the first subscriber identification module (410) nor the second subscriber identification module (420) are registered with the IMS, the protocol stack of the first subscriber identification module (410) may transmit a message to the first server (601) to attempt IMS registration.
[0178] When the IMS registration of the first subscriber identification module (410) is completed, the protocol stack of the second subscriber identification module (420) can transmit a message to the second server (603) to attempt IMS registration.
[0179] In operation 820 of FIG. 8, the second server (603) may perform IMS registration for the second subscriber identification module (420) based on second subscriber identification information included in a message for attempting IMS registration.
[0180] In operation 830 of FIG. 8, the second server (603) may request a call connection to the electronic device (101) using the second subscriber identification module (420) based on a call request from an external electronic device (e.g., the second external electronic device (607) of FIG. 6A).
[0181] In operation 840 of FIG. 8, the second server (603) may transmit a message indicating that the electronic device (101) is on a call to the external electronic device (607).
[0182] The second server (603) may transmit a message to the external electronic device (607) indicating that the electronic device (101) is on a call based on the call connection request time for the electronic device (101) exceeding a specified level.
[0183] The second server (603) can receive call connection information from the first server (601) when a call connection is established with the electronic device (101) using the first subscriber identification module (410). Based on the received call connection information, the second server (603) can confirm that the electronic device (101) is on a call using the first subscriber identification module (410).
[0184] The second server (603) may receive a message from the first server (601) indicating that a call using the first subscriber identification module (410) has been terminated. The second server (603) may confirm that the call using the first subscriber identification module (410) has been terminated based on the message received from the first server (601). The second server (603) may transmit a message to the second external electronic device (507) indicating that the call of the electronic device (101) has been terminated and that a call is currently possible. The second server (603) may use a SIP (session initiation protocol) message to notify the electronic device (101) that there has been a call attempt from the second external electronic device (607) and / or may transmit a message to the second external electronic device (607) indicating that a call is currently possible from the electronic device (101).
[0185] In operation 850 of FIG. 8, the second server (603) can verify whether a call connection request using the second subscriber identification module (420) occurred between the call start time and the call end time. The call time and end time can be indicated as the "start-time" tag and the "end-time" tag, respectively, within the "call-info-data" XML. The call time can be indicated, for example, in the Unix time format.
[0186] The second server (603) can receive a message containing information about the call start time and call end time using the first subscriber identification module (410) from the electronic device (101).
[0187] The second server (603) can check whether there was a call connection request using the second subscriber identification module (420) between the call start time and the call end time using the first subscriber identification module (410) based on the received message.
[0188] The second server (603) may transmit a message to the electronic device (101) indicating that a missed call has occurred by an external electronic device (607) based on the fact that a call connection request using the second subscriber identification module (420) has occurred between the call start time and the call end time using the first subscriber identification module (410).
[0189] The second server (603) may receive a call request for the electronic device (101) from an external electronic device (607), determine that the electronic device (101) is on a call based on the call connection request time for the electronic device (101) exceeding a specified level, and store the time at which the call request was received from the external electronic device (607) in the memory (130).
[0190] FIG. 9 is a flowchart illustrating an embodiment of controlling multiple subscriber identification modules on a communication system according to this document.
[0191] The operations described through FIG. 9 can be implemented based on instructions that can be stored in a computer recording medium or memory (e.g., memory (130) of FIG. 1). The illustrated method can be executed by the electronic device described above through FIGS. 1 to 7 (e.g., electronic device (101) of FIG. 1), and the technical features described above will be omitted below. The order of each operation of FIG. 9 can be changed, some operations can be omitted, and some operations can be performed simultaneously.
[0192] In operation 910 of FIG. 9, the electronic device (101) may transmit a message instructing call termination to the second subscriber identification module (e.g., the second subscriber identification module (420) of FIG. 4) using the first subscriber identification module (410) of FIG. 4). The electronic device (101) may use the first subscriber identification module (410) to determine whether a call is being attempted to the first external electronic device (605). The first external electronic device (605) may include a terminal capable of providing a call service.
[0193] An electronic device (101) can establish a call connection with a first external electronic device (e.g., the first external electronic device (605) of FIG. 6) using the first subscriber identification module (410). A first server (e.g., the first server (601) of FIG. 6) can confirm that the electronic device (101) is on a call using the first subscriber identification module (410).
[0194] The electronic device (101) can determine whether the call with the first external electronic device (605) has ended. Based on the end of the call with the first external electronic device (605), the electronic device (101) can transmit a message to the first server (601) indicating that the call with the first external electronic device (605) has ended.
[0195] In operation 920 of FIG. 9, the electronic device (101) may transmit information about the start time and end time of a call using the first subscriber identification module (410) to a second server (e.g., the second server (603) of FIG. 6). The message indicating that the call using the first subscriber identification module (410) has ended may include information about the start time and end time of the call using the first subscriber identification module (410).
[0196] Call duration and end time can be indicated using the "start-time" and "end-time" tags, respectively, within the "call-info-data" XML file. Call duration can be expressed in Unix time format, for example.
[0197] In operation 930 of FIG. 9, the second server (603) can check the call history requested by the second subscriber identification module (420) between the start time and end time of the call using the first subscriber identification module (410).
[0198] According to one embodiment, the second server (603) may store information about a call request on a database of the second server (603) based on the presence of a call request from a second external electronic device (607) via the second subscriber identification module (420).
[0199] According to one embodiment, the second server (603) may transmit information about whether a call was attempted by the second external electronic device (607) and the call attempt time to the electronic device (101) based on the detection of a call request by the second external electronic device (607) between the start time and the end time of the call using the first subscriber identification module.
[0200] According to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) may store information about the start time and end time of a call using the first subscriber identification module (410) on the database of the second server (603) based on the termination of a call between the electronic device (101) and the first external electronic device (605) using the first subscriber identification module (410).
[0201] The second server (603) can check whether there was a call request from the second external electronic device (607) between the start time and end time of the call using the first subscriber identification module (410) on the database.
[0202] In operation 940 of FIG. 9, the second server (603) may transmit a message to the electronic device (101) indicating that there has been a call attempt from another external electronic device (e.g., the second external electronic device (607) of FIG. 6) based on the presence of a call request. The processor (400) may receive a message from the second server (603) indicating that there has been a missed call.
[0203] According to one embodiment, the second server (603) may check the call history requested by the second subscriber identification module (420) between the start time and the end time of the call using the first subscriber identification module (410), and based on the existence of the call history from the second external electronic device (607), may transmit a message to the second external electronic device (607) notifying that the call connection failed because the electronic device (101) was on a call with another external device.
[0204] In one embodiment, the second server (603) may transmit a message to the external electronic device (607) indicating that the electronic device (101) has ended a call with another external device and is now available for a call.
[0205] FIG. 10 is a flowchart illustrating an embodiment of controlling multiple subscriber identification modules on a second server according to this document.
[0206] The operations described through FIG. 10 may be implemented based on instructions that may be stored in a computer recording medium or memory (e.g., memory (130) of FIG. 1). The illustrated method may be executed by an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101) of FIG. 1) described above through FIGS. 1 to 7, and the technical features described above will be omitted below. The order of each operation of FIG. 10 may be changed, some operations may be omitted, and some operations may be performed simultaneously.
[0207] In operation 1010, a second server (e.g., the second server (503) of FIG. 5A) may receive a message requesting IMS (IP multimedia subsystem) registration of an electronic device (101).
[0208] The second server (503) may include an IMS server of the second subscriber identification module (420). IMS registration may refer to the process by which an electronic device (101) registers on a network to use a service within a communication system. A service provider may determine which services can be provided to the electronic device (101) based on the IMS registration.
[0209] The first server (501) and the second server (503) may be capable of information linkage through an inter-operator contract. When neither the first subscriber identification module (410) nor the second subscriber identification module (420) are registered with the IMS, the protocol stack of the first subscriber identification module (410) may transmit a message to the first server (501) to attempt IMS registration.
[0210] The protocol stack of the second subscriber identification module (420) can transmit a message to the second server (603) to attempt IMS registration when the IMS registration of the first subscriber identification module (410) is completed.
[0211] In operation 1020, the second server (503) may proceed with IMS registration for the second subscriber identification module.
[0212] The second server (503) can receive a SIP (session initiation protocol) REGISTER message including the UUID (universally unique ID) of the first subscriber identification module (410) when the second subscriber identification module (420) is registered in the IMS on the first server (e.g., the first server (501) of FIG. 5a).
[0213] The second server (503) can transmit a message containing the UUID of the first subscriber identification module (410) to the first server (501).
[0214] The second server (503) can transmit the UUID of the first subscriber identification module (410) to all IMS servers and determine that the server from which the response is received is the first server (501).
[0215] Alternatively, the second server (503) may distinguish the business operator based on a specific value of the UUID and determine the first server (501) based on the distinguished business operator information.
[0216] Alternatively, the second server (503) may receive the UUID of the first subscriber identification module (410) from the electronic device (101), and may also receive, separately from the UUID, operator-related information that can identify the operator of the first subscriber identification module (410). The second server (503) may search for the first server (501) based on the received operator-related information and transmit the UUID of the first subscriber identification module (410).
[0217] The second server (503) can transmit a message including the UUID (universally unique ID) of the first subscriber identification module (410) to the first server (501) after the second subscriber identification module (420) is IMS registered on the second server (503). Specifically, information (e.g., UUID (universally unique ID)) of the first subscriber identification module (410) can be included in the Ex-contacts field of the SIP REGISTER message.
[0218] At operation 1030, the second server (503) can verify that the electronic device (101) supports DSDS (dual SIM dual standby) mode.
[0219] The second server (503) can use the information (e.g., universally unique ID (UUID)) of the first subscriber identification module (410) to confirm that the electronic device (101) is currently using the first subscriber identification module (410) as a dual SIM and is registered with the IMS.
[0220] The second server (503) can transmit a message to the first server (501) indicating that the first subscriber identification module (410) and the second subscriber identification module (420) have been registered with the IMS as dual SIMs. In this process, the first server (501) and the second server (503) can confirm that the first subscriber identification module (410) and the second subscriber identification module (420) are dual SIMs.
[0221] At operation 1040, the second server (503) can verify that the electronic device (101) is making a call via the first cellular network.
[0222] When the second server (503) receives a message from another IMS server (e.g., the first server (501)) corresponding to the first subscriber identification information indicating that the electronic device (101) is making a call via the first cellular network corresponding to the first subscriber identification information, the second server (503) can confirm that the electronic device (101) is making a call via the first cellular network.
[0223] In operation 1050, the second server (503) may transmit a message indicating that the electronic device (101) is on a call to the external electronic device (507). The second server (503) may transmit a message indicating that the electronic device (101) is on a call to the external electronic device (507) based on receiving a call request for the electronic device (101) from the external electronic device (507).
