Abstract
Description
Network node, terminal, and communication method
[0001] The present invention relates to a network node, a terminal, and a communication method in a communication system.
[0002] 3GPP (registered trademark) (3rd Generation Partnership Project) is currently studying a wireless communication system called 5G or NR (New Radio) (hereinafter, the wireless communication system will be referred to as "5G" or "NR") in order to achieve a larger system capacity, a higher data transmission speed, and a lower latency in wireless sections. Various wireless technologies are being studied for 5G to meet the requirements of achieving a throughput of 10 Gbps or more while keeping latency in wireless sections to 1 ms or less.
[0003] In NR, a network architecture including 5GC (5G Core Network) corresponding to EPC (Evolved Packet Core), which is the core network in the network architecture of LTE (Long Term Evolution), and NG-RAN (Next Generation - Radio Access Network) corresponding to E-UTRAN (Evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network), which is the RAN (Radio Access Network) in the network architecture of LTE, is being considered (for example, Non-Patent Document 1).
[0004] Furthermore, studies have begun on systems beyond 5G, or even 6G. In these future systems, diversified requirements are expected regarding power consumption, latency, communication speed, etc., for diversified devices such as ambient IoT (e.g., wireless tags) and XR (extended reality) with functions that extend virtual reality.
[0005] 3GPP TS 23.501 V18.2.2 (2023-07) 3GPP TS 23.502 V18.2.0 (2023-06) 3GPP TS 33.501 V18.2.0 (2023-06) 3GPP TS 38.331 V17.5.0 (2023-06) 3GPP TS 24.501 V18.2.1 (2023-03) GSMA, SGP. 21, RSP Architecture, version 3.0, 28 March 2022GSMA, SGP. 22, RSP Technical Specification, version 3.0, 19 October 2022
[0006] A terminal equipped with an eSIM (embedded subscriber identifier module) can switch between multiple profiles containing subscriber information. Before starting to use the network using an operational profile (OP), the terminal accesses the network using a configuration profile (PP) for pre-configuration. Because a PP is used by a terminal to temporarily access the network, the same PP may be used by multiple terminals. If multiple terminals simultaneously connect to the network using the same PP, the network will be unable to distinguish between the multiple terminals and properly process the connection.
[0007] The present invention has been made in view of the above points, and has as its object to define a procedure for appropriate connection to a network by a plurality of terminals using the same configuration profile in a communication system.
[0008] According to the disclosed technology, there is provided a network node having a receiving unit that receives a registration request sent from a terminal and that includes a shared subscriber identifier corresponding to a configuration profile, a control unit that associates the shared subscriber identifier with an additional subscriber identifier generated for the terminal and stores information about the terminal, and a transmitting unit that transmits a message regarding the registration of the terminal, that includes the shared subscriber identifier and the additional subscriber identifier, to another network node.
[0009] According to the disclosed technology, it is possible to define a procedure for multiple terminals in a communication system to appropriately connect to a network using the same configuration profile.

[0011] Hereinafter, an embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. Note that the embodiment described below is an example, and the embodiment to which the present invention is applied is not limited to the following embodiment.
[0012] In the operation of the wireless communication system according to the embodiment of the present invention, existing technology is used as appropriate. However, the existing technology is, for example, the existing LTE, but is not limited to the existing LTE. Furthermore, the term "LTE" used in this specification has a broad meaning including LTE-Advanced, and systems subsequent to LTE-Advanced (e.g., NR), or wireless LAN (Local Area Network), unless otherwise specified.
[0013] Furthermore, in the embodiments of the present invention, "configuring" radio parameters and the like may mean that predetermined values are pre-configured, or that radio parameters notified from the network node 30 or the terminal 20 are set.
[0014] Fig. 1 is a diagram illustrating an example of a communication system. As shown in Fig. 1, the communication system is composed of a UE, which is a terminal 20, and multiple network nodes 30. Hereinafter, it is assumed that one network node 30 corresponds to each function, but multiple functions may be realized by one network node 30, or multiple network nodes 30 may realize one function. Furthermore, the "connection" described below may be a logical connection or a physical connection.
[0015] The RAN (Radio Access Network) is a network node 30 having a radio access function, which may include a base station 10, and is connected to a UE, an AMF (Access and Mobility Management Function), and a UPF (User plane function). The AMF is a network node 30 having functions such as terminating the RAN interface, terminating the NAS (Non-Access Stratum), registration management, connection management, reachability management, and mobility management. The UPF is a network node 30 having functions such as a PDU (Protocol Data Unit) session point to the outside that interconnects with a DN (Data Network), packet routing and forwarding, and user plane QoS (Quality of Service) handling. The UPF and the DN constitute a network slice. In the wireless communication network according to the embodiment of the present invention, multiple network slices are constructed.
[0016] The AMF is connected to the UE, RAN, SMF (Session Management function), NSSF (Network Slice Selection Function), NEF (Network Exposure Function), NRF (Network Repository Function), UDM (Unified Data Management), AUSF (Authentication Server Function), PCF (Policy Control Function), and AF (Application Function). The AMF, SMF, NSSF, NEF, NRF, UDM, AUSF, PCF, and AF are network nodes 30 that are mutually connected via interfaces based on their respective services, Namf, Nsmf, Nnssf, Nnef, Nnrf, Nudm, Nausf, Npcf, and Naf.
[0017] The SMF is a network node 30 having functions such as session management, UE IP (Internet Protocol) address allocation and management, DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) function, ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) proxy, and roaming function. The NEF is a network node 30 having a function of notifying other NFs (Network Functions) of capabilities and events. The NSSF is a network node 30 having functions such as selecting a network slice to which a UE connects, determining an allowed NSSAI (Network Slice Selection Assistance Information), determining an NSSAI to be set, and determining an AMF set to which a UE connects. The PCF is a network node 30 having a function of controlling network policies. The AF is a network node 30 having a function of controlling application servers. The NRF is a network node 30 having a function of discovering NF instances that provide services. The UDM is a network node 30 that manages subscriber data and authentication data. The UDM is connected to a UDR (User Data Repository) that stores the data. The UDM may also include an ARPF (Authentication Credential Repository and Processing Function) that has the function of processing and managing authentication information, and a SIDF (Subscription Identifier De-concealing Function) that has the function of decrypting encrypted identification information. Alternatively, the UDM may perform these functions by accessing another network node that has an ARPF or SIDF.
[0018] Fig. 2 is a diagram illustrating an example of a communication system in a roaming environment. As shown in Fig. 2, the network is composed of a UE, which is a terminal 20, and multiple network nodes 30. Hereinafter, it is assumed that one network node 30 corresponds to each function, but multiple functions may be realized by one network node 30, or multiple network nodes 30 may realize one function. Furthermore, the "connection" described below may be a logical connection or a physical connection.
[0019] The RAN is a network node 30 having a radio access function, and is connected to the UE, the AMF, and the UPF. The AMF is a network node 30 having functions such as RAN interface termination, NAS termination, registration management, connection management, reachability management, and mobility management. The UPF is a network node 30 having functions such as a PDU session point to the outside that interconnects with the DN, packet routing and forwarding, and user plane QoS handling. The UPF and the DN constitute a network slice. In the wireless communication network according to the embodiment of the present invention, multiple network slices are constructed.
[0020] The AMF is connected to the UE, RAN, SMF, NSSF, NEF, NRF, UDM, AUSF, PCF, AF, and SEPP (Security Edge Protection Proxy). The AMF, SMF, NSSF, NEF, NRF, UDM, AUSF, PCF, and AF are network nodes 30 that are interconnected via respective service-based interfaces, Namf, Nsmf, Nnssf, Nnef, Nnrf, Nudm, Nausf, Npcf, and Naf.
[0021] The SMF is a network node 30 having functions such as session management, UE IP address allocation and management, DHCP function, ARP proxy, and roaming function. The NEF is a network node 30 having a function of notifying other NFs of capabilities and events. The NSSF is a network node 30 having functions such as selecting a network slice to which a UE connects, determining an allowed NSSAI, determining a configured NSSAI, and determining an AMF set to which a UE connects. The PCF is a network node 30 having a function of controlling network policies. The AF is a network node 30 having a function of controlling application servers. The NRF is a network node 30 having a function of discovering NF instances that provide services. The vSEPP shown in FIG. 2 is a SEPP in the visited network, and the hSEPP is a SEPP in the home network.
[0022] As shown in Figure 2, a UE is in a roaming environment connected to a RAN and an AMF in a Visited PLMN (VPLMN). The VPLMN and a Home PLMN (HPLMN) are connected via a vSEPP and an hSEPP. The UE can communicate with a UDM in the HPLMN via the AMF in the VPLMN, for example.
[0023] (Example 1) Example 1 will be described. In Example 1, a procedure for appropriate connection to a network by multiple terminals using the same configuration profile in a communication system will be described. FIGS. 3 to 5 are diagrams showing examples of first to third sequence diagrams, respectively, according to an embodiment of the present invention. The eUICC (embedded Universal Integrated Circuit Card) in FIGS. 3 to 5 has a configuration profile (Provisional Profile, PP) and an operational profile (Operational Profile, OP). The configuration profile (PP) is a profile used to perform pre-configuration before starting to use the network using the operational profile (OP). The operational profile (OP) is a profile used to use services provided by a mobile operator. Furthermore, a subscriber identifier (e.g., Subscription Permanent Identifier (SUPI) or Subscription Concealed Identifier (SUCI)) assigned to a PP is a subscriber identifier commonly used by multiple terminals 20 using the PP, and therefore may be referred to as a shared subscriber identifier.
[0024] The registration procedure for the terminal 20 to connect to the network using the configuration profile (PP) will be described below, firstly by explaining the processing of each step in the sequence diagram of FIG.
[0025] Step S301: The terminal 20 (UE) transmits a request to read a PP to the eUICC.
[0026] Step S302: The eUICC reads the PP and transmits a response to the received request to the terminal 20. Furthermore, the terminal 20 uses the read PP to start a registration procedure for connecting to the network. For details on the existing processing of the registration procedure executed in the following steps, refer to section 4.2.2.2 of Non-Patent Document 2. For details on authentication in the registration procedure, refer to section 6 of Non-Patent Document 3.
[0027] Step S303: The terminal 20 transmits an RRC Setup Request to the base station 10 (gNB). This message is based on the RRC protocol (see Non-Patent Document 4). This message may also be referred to as a radio connection setup request message.
[0028] Step S304: The base station 10 transmits RRC Setup to the terminal 20.
[0029] First, the existing procedure for steps S305-S306 will be described below.
[0030] Step S305: The terminal 20 sends an RRCSetupComplete message to the base station 10. The message includes SUCI, which is a subscriber identifier for the terminal 20 making a registration request to the network.
[0031] Step S306: The base station 10 sends an Initial UE Message to the AMF, which includes the SUCI received in step S305. This message may also be referred to as an Initial UE Message.
[0032] In the above steps S305 and S306, in the first embodiment, either the following method A (steps S305A to S306A) or method B (steps S305B to S306B) is executed.
[0033] (Method A) Step S305A: The terminal 20 generates an additional subscriber identifier, which is an additional identifier for identifying a subscriber, in order to distinguish between subscribers who connect to the network using the same PP. The terminal 20 generates, for example, a random number and sets the generated random number as the additional subscriber identifier. The terminal 20 transmits an RRCSetupComplete message to the base station 10. This message includes the additional subscriber identifier and SUCI, which is a subscriber identifier for the terminal 20 making a registration request to the network.
[0034] Step S306A: The base station 10 sends an Initial UE Message to the AMF, which includes the SUCI and additional subscriber identifier received in step S305A. This message may also be referred to as an Initial UE Message.
[0035] (Method B) Step S305B: The terminal 20 transmits RRCSetupComplete to the base station 10. The message includes SUCI, which is a subscriber identifier for the terminal 20 requesting registration with the network. The message also includes, as a setting value, a value of "PP-using registration," which is a newly defined type of 5GS registration type (see Section 9.11.3.7 of Non-Patent Document 5), indicating that registration with the network is using PP.
[0036] Step S306B: The base station 10 sends an Initial UE Message to the AMF. This message includes the SUCI received in step S305B and the setting value of the 5GS registration type (PP use registration). This message may also be referred to as an initial terminal message. Furthermore, in response to the 5GS registration type being PP use registration, the AMF generates an additional subscriber identifier, which is an additional identifier for identifying subscribers, in order to distinguish between subscribers connecting to the network using the same PP. The AMF, for example, generates a random number and sets the generated random number as the additional subscriber identifier.
[0037] Step S307: The base station 10 stores information (terminal context) about the terminal 20 that connects to the network using PP, in association with the SUCI and the additional subscriber identifier. In the following steps, the terminal context, SUCI, SUPI obtained by decoded the SUCI, and the additional subscriber identifier are information and identifiers related to the terminal 20.
[0038] Step S308: The AMF sends a Nausf_UEAuthentication_Authenticate request to the AUSF, which includes the SUCI and the additional subscriber identifier.
[0039] Step S309: The AUSF stores the terminal context in association with the SUCI and the additional subscriber identifier.
[0040] Step S310: AUSF sends a Nudm_UEAuthentication_Get request to UDM, which includes the SUCI and the additional subscriber identifier.
[0041] Step S311: The UDM causes the SIDF to decrypt the SUCI received in step S310 and obtain the SUPI.
[0042] Step S312: The UDM sends a Nudm_UEAuthentication_Get response to the AUSF, which includes the SUPI and the additional subscriber identifier.
[0043] Step S313: The AUSF updates and stores the terminal context in association with the SUCI, SUPI and additional subscriber identifier.
[0044] Step S314: AUSF sends a Nausf_UEAuthentication_Authenticate response to AMF.
[0045] Step S315: The AMF sends a Downlink NAS Transport to the base station 10. The message includes information indicating a request to perform authentication (hereinafter referred to as an authentication request).
[0046] Step S316: The base station 10 sends a DLInformationTransfer message to the terminal 20. The message includes an authentication request.
[0047] Step S317: The terminal 20 sends a ULInformationTransfer to the base station 10. The message includes an authentication request.
[0048] Step S318: The base station 10 sends an Uplink NAS Transport message to the AMF, which message includes an authentication request.
[0049] Step S319: The AMF sends a Nausf_UEAuthentication_Authenticate request to the AUSF.
[0050] Step S320: The AUSF sends a Nausf_UEAuthentication_Authenticate response to the AMF, which includes the SUPI and the additional subscriber identifier.
[0051] Step S321: The AMF updates and stores the terminal context in association with the SUPI and the additional subscriber identifier.
[0052] Step S322: The AUSF sends a Nudm_UEAuthentication_ResultConfirmation request to the UDM, which includes the SUPI and the additional subscriber identifier.
[0053] Step S323: The UDM stores the authentication status (the authentication result is successful) in association with the SUPI and the additional subscriber identifier.
[0054] Step S324: The UDM sends a Nudm_UEAuthentication_ResultConfirmation response to the AUSF.
[0055] Next, the processing of each step following step S324 will be described with reference to the sequence diagram of FIG.
[0056] Step S401: The AMF sends an Initial Context Setup request to the base station 10.
[0057] Step S402: The base station 10 transmits a SecurityModeCommand to the terminal 20.
[0058] Step S403: The terminal 20 transmits a SecurityModeComplete to the base station 10.
[0059] Step S404: The base station 10 sends an Initial Context Setup response to the AMF.
[0060] Step S405: The AMF sends a Downlink NAS Transport message to the base station 10. The message includes a Security Mode Command.
[0061] Step S406: The base station 10 transmits a DLInformationTransfer message to the terminal 20. The message includes a Security Mode Command.

[0068] Step S413: The UDM sends a Nudm_SDM_Get response to the AMF, which includes the subscriber information corresponding to the SUPI.
[0069] The processing in steps S411, S412, and S413 is processing in which the AMF acquires subscriber information from the UDM. The subscriber information is common to the same PP, and there is no need to distinguish between multiple terminals 20. Therefore, there is no need to include an additional subscriber identifier in the message sent in the processing of steps S411, S412, and S413.
[0070] Step S414: The AMF sends a Downlink NAS Transport to the base station 10. The message includes information indicating that the registration of the terminal 20 has been approved (hereinafter referred to as registration approval).
[0071] Step S415: The base station 10 sends a DLInformationTransfer message to the terminal 20. The message includes a registration acceptance.
[0072] Next, a procedure for establishing a PDU session using a configuration profile (PP) will be described with reference to the sequence diagram of Fig. 5. The processing of each step in Fig. 5 will be described below.
[0073] Step S501: The terminal 20 transmits a ULInformationTransfer to the base station 10. The message includes information requesting the establishment of a PDU session (hereinafter referred to as a PDU session establishment request).
[0074] Step S502: The base station 10 sends an UPlink NAS Transport message to the AMF, which message includes a PDU session establishment request.
[0075] Step S503: The AMF sends an Nsmf_PDUSession_CreateSMContext request to the SMF, which includes the SUPI and the additional subscriber identifier.
[0076] Step S504: The SMF sends a Nudm_SDM_Get request to the UDM, which includes the SUPI.
[0077] Step S505: The UDM sends a Nudm_SDM_Get response to the SMF, which includes the subscriber information corresponding to the SUPI.
[0078] The processing in steps S504 and S505 is processing in which the SMF acquires subscriber information from the UDM. The subscriber information is common to the same PP, and there is no need to distinguish between multiple terminals 20. Therefore, there is no need to include an additional subscriber identifier in the message sent in the processing of steps S504 and S505.
[0079] Step S506: The SMF stores the terminal context in association with the SUPI and the additional subscriber identifier.
[0080] Step S507: The SMF sends an Nsmf_PDUSession_CreateSMContext response to the AMF.
[0081] Step S508: The SMF sends a PFCP Session Establishment request to the UPF.
[0082] Step S509: The UPF sends a PFCP Session Establishment response to the SMF.
[0083] Step S510: The SMF sends a Namf_Communication_N1N2MessageTransfer request to the AMF, which includes the SUPI and the additional subscriber identifier.
[0084] Step S511: AMF sends Namf_Communication_N1N2MessageTransfer response to SMF.
[0085] Step S512: The AMF sends a PDU_Session_Resource_Setup request to the base station 10.

[0089] Step S516: The AMF sends an Nsmf_PDUSession_UpdateSMContext request to the SMF.
[0090] Step S517: The SMF sends a PFCP Session Modification request to the UPF.
[0091] Step S518: The UPF sends a PFCP Session Modification response to the SMF.
[0092] Step S519: The SMF sends a Nudm_UECM_Registration request to the UDM, which includes the SUPI and the additional subscriber identifier.
[0093] Step S520: The UDM stores the registration status (registration successful) in the SMF in association with the SUPI and the additional subscriber identifier.
[0094] Step S521: The UDM sends a Nudm_UECM_Registration response to the SMF.
[0095] Step S522: The SMF sends an Nsmf_PDUSession_UpdateSMContext response to the AMF.
[0096] With the above processing, even when multiple terminals using the same PP register to the network, it is possible to properly perform registration processing and PDU session establishment processing by using an additional subscriber identifier assigned to each terminal.

[0147] The information, signals, etc. described in the present disclosure may be output from a higher layer (or a lower layer) to a lower layer (or a higher layer), or may be input / output via multiple network nodes.
[0148] Input and output information may be stored in a specific location (for example, memory) or may be managed using a management table. Input and output information may be overwritten, updated, or added to. Output information may be deleted. Input information may be transmitted to another device.
[0149] In the present disclosure, the determination may be made by a value represented by one bit (0 or 1), by a Boolean value (true or false), or by a comparison of numerical values (e.g., comparison with a predetermined value).
[0150] Software shall be construed broadly to mean instructions, instruction sets, code, code segments, program code, programs, subprograms, software modules, applications, software applications, software packages, routines, subroutines, objects, executable files, threads of execution, procedures, functions, etc., whether referred to as software, firmware, middleware, microcode, hardware description language, or otherwise.

[0170] The "means" in the configuration of each of the above devices may be replaced with "part," "circuit," "device," etc.
[0171] When the terms "include," "including," and variations thereof are used in this disclosure, these terms are intended to be inclusive, similar to the term "comprising." Furthermore, when the term "or" is used in this disclosure, it is not intended to be an exclusive or.
[0172] In this disclosure, where articles are added by translation, such as a, an, and the in English, the disclosure may include that the nouns following these articles are in the plural form.
[0173] In the present disclosure, the term "A and B are different" may mean "A and B are different from each other." The term may also mean "A and B are each different from C." Terms such as "separate" and "coupled" may also be interpreted in the same way as "different."
[0174] The aspects / embodiments described in this disclosure may be used alone, in combination, or switched depending on the implementation. Notification of predetermined information (e.g., notification that "X is true") is not limited to explicit notification, but may be implicit (e.g., not notifying the predetermined information).
[0175] Although the present disclosure has been described in detail above, it is clear to those skilled in the art that the present disclosure is not limited to the embodiments described herein.
