AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Current technologies face challenges in enabling subsequent conditional primary secondary cell (PSCell) changes without reconfiguration and re-initialization, leading to increased signaling overhead and delay, especially in frequency range 2 (FR2) operations.

Method used

The proposed solution involves a terminal device that determines whether a subsequent CPAC is performed and, if a bearer type for a data radio bearer (DRB) is changed, performs operations such as re-establishing PDCP or RLC entities, configuring ciphering or integrity protection algorithms, and updating security keys based on the type of cell change (inter-SN or intra-SN).

Benefits of technology

This approach reduces signaling overhead and interrupting time for secondary cell group changes by allowing subsequent CPACs without explicit network reconfiguration, ensuring loss-less data transmission for acknowledged mode DRBs.

Abstract

Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to devices and methods of communication. In one aspect, upon determination that a subsequent CPAC is performed, a terminal device determines whether a bearer type for a DRB is changed for the subsequent CPAC. If the bearer type is changed, the terminal device performs L2 handling. In this way, during a subsequent CPAC, a terminal device may perform the L2 handling in case of a bearer type change without an explicit indication from a network. Thus, loss-less may be supported for AM DRBs.

Description

DEVICES AND METHODS OF COMMUNICATIONTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] Embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to the field of telecommunication, and in particular, to devices and methods of communication for a conditional cell change.BACKGROUND

[0002] For a conditional primary secondary cell (PSCell) addition or change (CPAC) in third generation partnership project (3GPP) Release 17, a CPAC-configured terminal device has to release a CPAC configuration when completing random access towards a target PSCell. Hence the terminal device has no chance to perform subsequent CPAC without prior CPAC reconfiguration and re-initialization from the network side. This will increase a delay for a cell change and increase signaling overhead, especially in the case of frequent secondary cell group (SCG) changes when operating in frequency range 2 (FR2) . Therefore, multi-random access technology dual connectivity (MR-DC) with selective activation of cell groups aims at enabling subsequent CPAC after SCG change, without reconfiguration and re-initialization on a CPAC preparation from the network side. This results in a reduction of signaling overhead and an interrupting time for SCG change. However, a solution of a subsequent CPAC is still incomplete and needs to be further developed.SUMMARY

[0039] Recently, it has been agreed that, for SN-initiated and MN-initiated SCG selective activation, a candidate SN generates execution conditions for a subsequent CPC. However, it is unclear how to support the generation of the execution conditions for a subsequent CPC for the SN-initiated SCG selective activation. Further, it has been agreed to support update of a security key counter at inter-SN mobility based on pre-configured multiple security key counters. However, it is unclear when the security key counter needs to change.

[0040] In view of this, embodiments of the present disclosure provide solutions of communication for a subsequent CPAC so as to overcome the above and other potential issues. In one aspect, upon determination that a subsequent CPAC is performed, a terminal device determines whether a bearer type for a DRB is changed for the subsequent CPAC. If the bearer type is changed, the terminal device performs a first operation comprising at least one of the following: re-establishing a PDCP entity of the DRB; in accordance with a determination that the PDCP entity of the DRB is not configured with ciphering disabled, configuring the PDCP entity with a ciphering algorithm and a key for ciphering of data associated with a master key or a secondary key; in accordance with a determination that the PDCP entity of the DRB is configured with integrity protection, configuring the PDCP entity with an integrity protection algorithm and a key for integrity  protection of data associated with a master key or a secondary key; or re-establishing at least one RLC entity for at least one RLC bearer associated with the DRB. In this way, during a subsequent CPAC, a terminal device may perform layer 2 (L2) handling in case of a bearer type change without an explicit indication from a network. Thus, loss-less may be supported for acknowledged mode (AM) DRBs.

[0041] In another aspect, upon determination that a subsequent CPC is to be performed from a first cell to a second cell, a terminal device determines whether the first cell is a candidate PSCell for the subsequent CPC. If the first cell is not a candidate PSCell for the subsequent CPC, the terminal device perform an operation comprising one of the following: determining that the subsequent CPC is an inter-SN subsequent CPC or an intra-SN subsequent CPC by determining a first identity value as an identity value of a serving cell and comparing the first identity value and a second identity value for the second cell; determining that the subsequent CPC is the inter-SN subsequent CPC; and determining that the subsequent CPC is the intra-SN subsequent CPC. In this way, during a subsequent CPAC, a terminal device may identify intra-SN subsequent CPC and inter-SN subsequent CPC. This may facilitate performing different behaviors on security key update and L2 handling for the case of intra-SN subsequent CPC and the case of inter-SN subsequent CPC.

[0042] In still another aspect, a terminal device receives, from an MN, a first configuration of a subsequent CPAC associated with a first candidate PSCell of a candidate SN. The first configuration comprises a set of configurations. A configuration in the set of configurations comprises an MCG configuration. The MCG configuration comprises execution conditions for a subsequent CPC from the first candidate PSCell to a set of second candidate PSCells, or the first configuration further comprises the execution conditions for the subsequent CPC from the first candidate PSCell to the set of second candidate PSCells. In this way, generation of execution conditions for a subsequent CPC by candidate SNs may be supported.

[0043] Principles and implementations of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the figures.

[0044] It is to be understood that the present solution may be applied in a SCG change, and also may be applied in an MCG change. That is, the present solution may be applied for a subsequent CPC or a subsequent conditional handover. The subsequent CPC or  subsequent conditional handover may also be referred to as a selective activation of cell groups, a selective activation of SCGs, a subsequent SCG change, a subsequent cell group change or a subsequent conditional cell change. For convenience, embodiments of the present disclosure will be described by taking a subsequent CPC as an example.

[0045] EXAMPLE OF COMMUNICATION NETWORK

[0046] FIG. 1 illustrates a schematic diagram of an example communication environment 100 in which embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. As shown in FIG. 1, the communication environment 100 may comprise a network device 110 and a terminal device 120. The network device 110 provides a cell 111 and the terminal device 120 is located in the cell 111 and served by the network device 110.

[0047] The communication environment 100 may also comprise one or more other network devices such as network devices 130, 140 and 150. The network device 130 provides cells 131, 132 and 133. The network device 140 provides cells 141, 142 and 143, and the network device 150 provides cells 151, 152 and 153. It should be noted that the number of the cells are not limited to three, and more or less cells may be provided by the network devices 130, 140 and 150.

[0048] Assuming that the terminal device 120 may establish a dual connection (i.e., simultaneous connection) with two network devices. For example, the network device 110 may serve as an MN (for convenience, also referred to as MN 110 below) , and the network device 130 may serve as a SN (for convenience, also referred to as SN 130 below) . Although only the cell 111 is shown, the MN 110 may provide multiple cells, and these cells may form an MCG for the terminal device 120. Assuming that the cell 111 is a primary cell (i.e., PCell) in the MCG. Further, the cells 131, 132 and 133 provided by the network device 130 may form a SCG for the terminal device 120. Assuming that the cell 131 is a primary cell (i.e., PSCell) in the SCG.

[0049] The SN 130 may communicate with the terminal device 120 via a channel such as a wireless communication channel. Similarly, the MN 110 may also communicate with the terminal device 120 via a channel such as a wireless communication channel. The SN 130 may communicate with the MN 110 via an Xn interface.

[0050] It is to be understood that the number of devices or cells in FIG. 1 is given for the purpose of illustration without suggesting any limitations to the present disclosure. The communication environment 100 may involve any suitable number of network devices  and / or terminal devices and / or cells adapted for implementing implementations of the present disclosure.

[0051] The communications in the communication environment 100 may conform to any suitable standards including, but not limited to, Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) , Long Term Evolution (LTE) , LTE-Evolution, LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) , Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) , Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) , GSM EDGE Radio Access Network (GERAN) , Machine Type Communication (MTC) and the like. The embodiments of the present disclosure may be performed according to any generation communication protocols either currently known or to be developed in the future. Examples of the communication protocols include, but not limited to, the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , 2.5G, 2.75G, the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , 4.5G, the fifth generation (5G) communication protocols, 5.5G, 5G-Advanced networks, or the sixth generation (6G) networks.

[0052] In some embodiments, the network device 110 may configure, to the terminal device 120, a conditional reconfiguration supporting a subsequent CPAC.

[0053] Assuming that the cells 131-133, 141-143 and 151-153 are configured to the terminal device 120 as candidate cells. In some scenarios, the terminal device 120 may initially communicate with only the network device 110. As the terminal device 120 moves, when a condition for a candidate cell (for example, the cell 131) is fulfilled, the terminal device 120 may be caused to establish the dual connection with the network device 110 and the network device 130. This process of SN addition may be called as a conditional PSCell addition (CPA) .

[0054] In some scenarios, the terminal device 120 may establish a dual connection with the network devices 110 and 130. The network device 110 serves as an MN and the network device 130 serves as an SN. As the terminal device 120 moves, an SN serving the terminal device 120 may be changed from the network device 130 (also referred to as a source SN or current SN 130 hereinafter) to the network device 140 (also referred to as a target SN 140 hereinafter) . This process of PSCell change may be called as a CPC.

[0055] In some scenarios, after the terminal device is configured with a conditional reconfiguration and with a subsequent CPC being enabled, and before at least one execution condition is fulfilled for any candidate PSCell, the terminal device 120 may receive an radio resource control (RRC) reconfiguration message containing  reconfigurationWithSync for SCG from the network device 110, and the terminal device 120 may perform a PSCell change or addition accordingly. This procedure is called as a legacy PSCell change or addition. As an example, after the legacy PSCell change or addition procedure, the SN serving the terminal device 120 is the network device 140.

[0056] After the above CPA, CPC or legacy PSCell change or addition procedure, the terminal device 120 does not release the conditional reconfiguration supporting a subsequent CPAC, and continues to perform a conditional reconfiguration evaluation. As the terminal device 120 further moves, when a condition for still another candidate cell (for example, the cell 151) is fulfilled, an SN serving the terminal device 120 may be changed from the network device 140 to the network device 150 (also referred to as a target SN 150 hereinafter) . This process of SN change may be called as a subsequent CPC.

[0057] As shown in FIG. 1, as the terminal device 120 further moves, the terminal device 120 may move out of coverage of an SN. The network device 110 (i.e., the MN) may indicate the terminal device 120 to release a previous SN (e.g., the network device 150) . In this case, the terminal device 120 may not release the conditional reconfiguration supporting the subsequent CPAC, and continue to perform a conditional reconfiguration evaluation for subsequent CPA.

[0058] Continuing to refer to FIG. 1, as the terminal device 120 further moves, when a condition for a candidate cell (for example, the cell 141) is fulfilled, the terminal device 120 may be caused to establish a dual connection with the network device 110 and the network device 140. This process may be called as a subsequent CPA.

[0059] Embodiments of the present disclosure provide solutions of communication for a subsequent CPAC so as to enhance a subsequent CPAC procedure. The solutions will be described in connection with FIGs. 2 to 4 below.

[0060] EXAMPLE IMPLEMENTATION OF L2 HANDLING

[0061] In some scenarios, during a subsequent CPAC, a bearer type of a DRB may be changed or unchanged. Different L2 handling (e.g., PDCP reestablishment or recovery, or RLC reestablishment) needs to be performed in case of the bearer type changed or unchanged. However, for a candidate PSCell, whether the bearer type is changed or unchanged depends on a moving trajectory of a terminal device for a subsequent CPAC. So it is impossible to configure L2 handling in an RRC signaling as that in a conventional CPAC.

[0062] In view of this, embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution of L2 handling for a subsequent CPAC. The solution will be described in connection with FIG. 2 below. FIG. 2 illustrates a schematic diagram illustrating an example process 200 of a subsequent CPAC according to embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the process 200 will be described with reference to FIG. 1. The process 200 may involve the terminal device 120 and the network device 110. In this example, the network device 110 is an MN serving the terminal device 120.

[0063] As shown in FIG. 2, the terminal device 120 may determine 210 that a subsequent CPAC is performed. In some embodiments, the network device 110 may transmit 211, to the terminal device 120, a configuration (e.g., a conditional reconfiguration) of a subsequent CPAC comprising execution conditions for the subsequent CPAC to a set of candidate PSCells. The terminal device 120 may perform 212 a conditional reconfiguration evaluation based on the execution conditions.

[0064] In some embodiments, after a CPA or CPC or legacy PSCell change or addition procedure, when an execution condition for a candidate PSCell (e.g., the cell 142) is fulfilled, the terminal device 120 may determine that a subsequent CPC is performed. In some embodiments, after a CPA or CPC or legacy PSCell change or addition procedure, when an execution condition for a candidate PSCell (e.g., the cell 141) is fulfilled after an SN release, the terminal device 120 may determine that a subsequent CPA is performed.

[0065] Upon determination that the subsequent CPAC is performed, the terminal device 120 may determine 220 whether a bearer type for a DRB is changed for the subsequent CPAC. In other words, upon execution of the subsequent CPAC, the terminal device 120 may determine if the bearer type of one DRB is changed.

[0066] In some embodiments, the change of the bearer type may comprise a change from an MN terminated bearer to an SN terminated bearer. In some embodiments, the change of the bearer type may comprise a change from an SN terminated bearer to an MN terminated bearer.

[0067] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 may determine whether the bearer type for the DRB is changed based on a key to be used for the DRB (e.g., keyToUse associated with the DRB) . In some embodiments, if the key to be used for the DRB is changed, the terminal device 120 may determine that the bearer type for the DRB is changed. If the key to be used for the DRB is unchanged, the terminal device 120 may  determine that the bearer type for the DRB is unchanged. For example, if the key to be used for the DRB is changed from master to secondary, or from secondary to master, the terminal device 120 may determine that the bearer type for the DRB is changed. Otherwise, the terminal device 120 may determine that the key to be used for the DRB is unchanged.

[0068] Continuing to refer to FIG. 2, if the bearer type for the DRB is changed, the terminal device 120 may perform 230 L2 handling (also refer to as a first operation herein) . In some embodiments, if the bearer type for the DRB is changed, the terminal device 120 may re-establish a PDCP entity of the DRB.

[0069] In some embodiments, if the bearer type for the DRB is changed and if the PDCP entity of the DRB is not configured with ciphering disabled, the terminal device 120 may configure the PDCP entity of the DRB with a ciphering algorithm and a key for ciphering of data associated with a master key or a secondary key. The master key or the secondary key may be indicated in the key to be used for the DRB (e.g., keyToUse) . That is, the ciphering configuration may be applied to all subsequent PDCP protocol data units (PDUs) received and sent by the terminal device 120.

[0070] In some embodiments, if the bearer type for the DRB is changed and if the PDCP entity of the DRB is configured with integrity protection, the terminal device 120 may configure the PDCP entity with an integrity protection algorithm and a key for integrity protection of data associated with a master key or a secondary key. The master key or the secondary key may be indicated in the key to be used for the DRB (e.g., keyToUse) .

[0071] In some embodiments, if the bearer type for the DRB is changed, the terminal device 120 may re-establish at least one RLC entity for at least one RLC bearer associated with the DRB. It is to be noted that the above operations upon DRB bearer type change may be carried out separately or in any combination.

[0072] Continuing to refer to FIG. 2, if the bearer type for the DRB is unchanged, the terminal device 120 may perform 240 L2 handling (also referred to as a second operation herein) . In some embodiments, if the bearer type for the DRB is unchanged, the terminal device 120 may trigger the PDCP entity of the DRB to perform data recovery. In some embodiments, if the bearer type for the DRB is unchanged, the terminal device 120 may re-establish at least one RLC entity for at least one SCG RLC bearer associated with the DRB.

[0073] In some embodiments, the network device 110 may restrict or avoid the bearer type change during the subsequent CPAC based on a proper configuration.

[0074] With the process 200, during a subsequent CPAC, a terminal device may perform L2 handling in case of a bearer type change without an explicit indication from a network. Thus, loss-less may be supported for AM DRBs.

[0075] EXAMPLE IMPLEMENTATION OF INTER-SN OR INTER-SN SUBSEQUENT CPC

[0076] In some scenarios, during a subsequent CPC, whether a terminal device performs security key update and L2 handling depends on whether the subsequent CPC is an inter-SN subsequent CPC or an intra-SN subsequent CPC. However, it is still unclear how to determine whether the subsequent CPC is the inter-SN subsequent CPC or the intra-SN subsequent CPC, and what kinds of L2 handling are to be performed for the inter-SN subsequent CPC or the intra-SN subsequent CPC.

[0077] In view of this, embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution of security key update and L2 handling for a subsequent CPC. The solution will be described in connection with FIG. 3 below. FIG. 3 illustrates a schematic diagram illustrating an example process 300 of a subsequent CPC according to embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the process 300 will be described with reference to FIG. 1. The process 300 may involve the terminal device 120 and the network device 110. In this example, the network device 110 is an MN serving the terminal device 120.

[0078] As shown in FIG. 3, the terminal device 120 may determine 310 that a subsequent CPC is to be performed from a first cell to a second cell. In some embodiments, the network device 110 may transmit 311, to the terminal device 120, a configuration (e.g., a conditional reconfiguration) of a subsequent CPAC comprising execution conditions for the subsequent CPAC to a set of candidate PSCells. The terminal device 120 may perform 312 a conditional reconfiguration evaluation based on the execution conditions. After a CPA or CPC or legacy PSCell change or addition procedure, the terminal device 120 is changed into the first cell (e.g., the cell 142) . When an execution condition for a candidate PSCell (i.e., the second cell (e.g., the cell 151) ) is fulfilled, the terminal device 120 may determine that the subsequent CPC from the cell 142 to the cell 151 is performed.

[0079] Upon determination that the subsequent CPC is performed, that is, upon execution of the subsequent CPC, the terminal device 120 may determine if the subsequent CPC is  inter-SN subsequent CPC or intra-SN subsequent CPC. In some embodiments, the determination may be based on an identity (ID) value configured by the network device 110 for a target candidate PSCell (i.e., the second cell) , and an ID value of a serving PSCell or source PSCell (i.e., the first cell) maintained by the terminal device 120.

[0080] Continuing to refer to FIG. 3, the terminal device 120 may determine 320 whether the first cell (i.e., the serving PSCell or source PSCell) is a candidate PSCell for a subsequent CPAC. In some embodiments, if the first cell is a candidate PSCell supporting a subsequent CPAC, the terminal device 120 may set an ID value of a serving cell as an ID value configured for the candidate PSCell. If the first cell is not a candidate PSCell for a subsequent CPAC, the terminal device 120 may perform an operation according to embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0081] As shown in FIG. 3, in some embodiments, if the first cell is not a candidate PSCell for a subsequent CPAC, the terminal device 120 may determine 330 a first ID value as the ID value of the serving cell.

[0082] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 may receive 331, from the network device 110 (i.e., MN) , a configuration of the first ID value. Alternatively, the terminal device 120 may receive the configuration of the first ID value from the network device 150 (i.e., target SN) . In other words, if the serving PSCell or source PSCell (e.g. the cell 142) is not a candidate PSCell, the network device 110 may also configure an ID value for the serving PSCell or source PSCell. Upon reception of the configuration, the terminal device 120 may set the ID value maintained for the serving PSCell or source PSCell as the ID value configured by the network device 110. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may maintain the ID value of the serving PSCell or source PSCell in a UE variable.

[0083] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 may determine 332 the first ID value as a default value. In other words, if the serving PSCell or source PSCell is not a candidate PSCell, the terminal device 120 may set the ID value of the serving cell as a default value.

[0084] Upon determination of the first ID value, the terminal device 120 may compare 340 the first ID value and a second ID value of the second cell. If the first ID value is the same as the second ID value, the terminal device 120 may determine that the subsequent CPC is the intra-SN subsequent CPC. If the first ID value is different from the second ID value, the terminal device 120 may determine that the subsequent CPC is the inter-SN  subsequent CPC. In other words, if the ID value of the serving PSCell or source PSCell is the same as the ID value of the target candidate PSCell, the terminal device 120 determines the subsequent CPC as intra-SN. If the ID value of the serving PSCell or source PSCell and the ID value of the target candidate PSCell are different, the terminal device 120 determines the subsequent CPC as inter-SN.

[0085] In some embodiments, if the subsequent CPC is the inter-SN subsequent CPC, the terminal device 120 may replace the ID value of the serving cell with the second ID value (i.e., the ID value of the target candidate PSCell) .

[0086] Continuing to refer to FIG. 3, in some embodiments, if the first cell (i.e., the serving PSCell or source PSCell) is not a candidate PSCell for a subsequent CPAC, the terminal device 120 may determine 350 that the subsequent CPC is the inter-SN subsequent CPC. In some alternative embodiments, if the first cell (i.e., the serving PSCell or source PSCell) is not a candidate PSCell for a subsequent CPAC, the terminal device 120 may determine 360 that the subsequent CPC is the intra-SN subsequent CPC.

[0087] In some embodiments, if the first cell and the second cell is not configured with ID values, the terminal device 120 may determine that the subsequent CPC is the inter-SN subsequent CPC. In other words, if at least one of the serving PSCell / source PSCell or target candidate PSCell is not configured with ID values, the terminal device 120 may determine that the subsequent CPC as inter-SN. In some alternative embodiments, if the first cell and the second cell is not configured with ID values, the terminal device 120 may determine that the subsequent CPC is the intra-SN subsequent CPC. In other words, if at least one of the serving PSCell / source PSCell or target candidate PSCell is not configured with ID values, the terminal device 120 may determine that the subsequent CPC as intra-SN.

[0088] In some embodiments, for each ID value, the network device 110 may configure a list of security key counters (e.g., sk-counter) to derive or update a secondary key. Upon reception of the list of security key counters, the terminal device 120 may store, in a UE variable, the list of security key counters for each ID value. For the inter-SN subsequent CPC and the intra-SN subsequent CPC, the terminal device may perform different operations for security key update and L2 handling.

[0089] Continuing to refer to FIG. 3, if the subsequent CPC is the inter-SN subsequent CPC, the terminal device 120 may perform 370 security key update. In some  embodiments, the terminal device 120 may derive a secondary key by using a security key counter in a list of security key counters associated with the second ID value (i.e., the ID value of the target candidate PSCell) . In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 may discard the used security key counter from the stored list of security key counters associated with the ID value of the target candidate PSCell or the updated ID value of the serving PSCell.

[0090] Continuing to refer to FIG. 3, if the subsequent CPC is the inter-SN subsequent CPC, the terminal device 120 may perform 380 L2 handling.

[0091] In some embodiments, for an SN terminated DRB (e.g., for each SN terminated DRB) , the terminal device 120 may re-establish a PDCP entity of the DRB. The SN terminated DRB is a DRB with keyToUse that is secondary. In some embodiments, if the PDCP entity of the DRB is not configured with ciphering disabled, the terminal device 120 may configure the PDCP entity with a ciphering algorithm and a key for ciphering of data associated with a secondary key. That is, the ciphering configuration may be applied to all subsequent PDCP PDUs received and sent by the terminal device 120. In some embodiments, if the PDCP entity of the DRB is configured with integrity protection, the terminal device 120 may configure the PDCP entity with an integrity protection algorithm and a key for integrity protection of data associated with a secondary key. That is, the integrity protection configuration may be applied to all subsequent PDCP PDUs received and sent by the terminal device 120. In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 may re-establish at least one RLC entity for at least one RLC bearer associated with the DRB. It is to be understood that any combination of the above operations is also feasible.

[0092] In some embodiments, for at least one signaling radio bearer (SRB) between an SN (e.g., the network device 150) corresponding to the second cell (e.g., the cell 151) and the terminal device 120 (e.g., for each direct SRB between the SN and the terminal device 120) , e.g., SRB3, the terminal device 120 may re-establish a PDCP entity for the at least one SRB. In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 may configure the PDCP entity to apply a ciphering algorithm and a key for ciphering of an RRC signaling associated with a secondary key. That is, the ciphering configuration may be applied to all subsequent messages received and sent by the terminal device 120, including a message used to indicate successful completion of the ciphering configuration procedure. In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 may configure the PDCP entity to apply an integrity protection algorithm and a key for integrity protection of the RRC signaling associated with  the secondary key. That is, the integrity protection configuration may be applied to all subsequent messages received and sent by the terminal device 120, including a message used to indicate successful completion of the integrity protection configuration procedure. In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 may re-establish at least one RLC entity for at least one RLC bearer associated with the at least one SRB. It is to be understood that any combination of the above operations is also feasible.

[0093] In some embodiments, for an MN terminated DRB (e.g., for each MN terminated DRB) , the terminal device 120 may re-establish at least one RLC entity for at least one SCG RLC bearer associated with the MN terminated DRB. The MN terminated DRB is a DRB with keyToUse that is master.

[0094] In some embodiments, for an SRB between an MN (i.e., the network device 110) and the terminal device 120 (e.g., for each MCG SRB or direct SRB between the MN and the terminal device 120) , e.g., SRB1 or SRB2, the terminal device 120 may re-establish at least one RLC entity for at least one SCG RLC bearer associated with the SRB. In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 may re-establish RLC entities for all SCG RLC bearers.

[0095] Continuing to refer to FIG. 3, if the subsequent CPC is the intra-SN subsequent CPC, the terminal device 120 may perform 390 L2 handling. In some embodiments, for an SN terminated DRB (e.g., for each SN terminated DRB) , the terminal device 120 may trigger a PDCP entity of the DRB to perform data recovery. In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 may re-establish at least one RLC entity for at least one SCG RLC bearer associated with the DRB. The SN terminated DRB is a DRB with keyToUse that is secondary.

[0096] In some embodiments, for an SRB between the SN (e.g., the network device 150) and the terminal device 120 (e.g., for each direct SRB between the SN and the terminal device 120) , e.g., SRB3, the terminal device 120 may trigger a PDCP entity of the SRB to perform a service data unit (SDU) discard. In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 may re-establish at least one RLC entity for at least one SCG RLC bearer associated with the SRB.

[0097] In some embodiments, for an MN terminated DRB (e.g., for each MN terminated DRB) , the terminal device 120 may re-establish at least one RLC entity for at least one SCG RLC bearer associated with the MN terminated DRB. The MN terminated DRB is a  DRB with keyToUse that is master.

[0098] In some embodiments, for an SRB between an MN (i.e., the network device 110) and the terminal device 120 (e.g., for each MCG SRB or direct SRB between the MN and the terminal device 120) , e.g., SRB1 or SRB2, the terminal device 120 may re-establish at least one RLC entity for at least one SCG RLC bearer associated with the SRB. In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 may re-establish RLC entities for all SCG RLC bearers.

[0099] In some embodiments, upon execution of subsequent CPC, if the ID value of the serving cell is available, the terminal device 120 may ignore an information element (IE) for PDCP re-establishment (e.g., reestablishPDCP IE) , an IE for PDCP recovery (e.g., recoveryPDCP IE) and an IE for PDCP discard (e.g., discardOnPDCP IE) configured for SN terminated DRBs and direct SRBs between the SN and the terminal device 120 (e.g. SRB3) . In some embodiments, for an MN terminated DRB, the terminal device 120 may re-establish at least one RLC entity for at least one SCG RLC bearer associated with the DRB. In some embodiments, for an MCG SRB or a direct SRB between the MN and the terminal device 120 (e.g., SRB1, SRB2) , the terminal device 120 may re-establish at least one RLC entity for at least one SCG RLC bearer associated with the SRB. In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 may re-establish RLC entities for all SCG RLC bearers.

[0100] With the process 300, during a subsequent CPAC, a terminal device may perform different behaviors on security key update and L2 handling for the case of intra-SN subsequent CPC and the case of inter-SN subsequent CPC.

[0101] EXAMPLE IMPLEMENTATION OF EXECUTION CONDITION FOR SUBSEQUENT CPC

[0102] In some scenarios, for an SN-initiated subsequent CPAC, execution conditions for a subsequent CPC may be generated by candidate SNs. However, it is still unclear how to generate the execution conditions for a subsequent CPC.

[0103] In view of this, embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution for configuring execution conditions for a subsequent CPAC. The solution will be described in connection with FIG. 4 below. FIG. 4 illustrates a schematic diagram illustrating another example process 400 of a subsequent CPAC according to embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the process 400 will be described with reference to FIG. 1. The process 400 may involve the terminal device 120 and the  network devices 110 and 140. In this example, the network device 110 is an MN serving the terminal device 120, and the network device 140 is a target candidate SN.

[0104] As shown in FIG. 4, the network device 110 (i.e., MN) may transmit 410 an SN addition request message to each of candidate SNs (e.g., the network device 140) . The SN addition request message may comprise a list of recommended candidate PSCells of the candidate SN and candidate PSCells of other candidate SNs (e.g., the network device 150) .

[0105] Continuing to refer to FIG. 4, the network device 140 (i.e., target candidate SN) may transmit 420 an SN addition request acknowledgement message to the network device 110 (i.e., MN) . The SN addition request acknowledgement message may comprise execution conditions for subsequent CPC from one of candidate PSCells of the target candidate SN (e.g., the cell 142) to another candidate PSCell of the target candidate SN (e.g., the cell 143) or another candidate PSCell of another target candidate SN (e.g., the cell 151) .

[0106] As shown in FIG. 4, the network device 110 (i.e., MN) may transmit 430, to the terminal device 120, a configuration of a subsequent CPAC comprising the execution conditions for subsequent CPC received from the network device 140. The configuration of the subsequent CPAC may comprise a first configuration associated with a first candidate PSCell (e.g., the cell 142) of the target candidate SN. The first configuration may comprise a set of configurations, and a configuration in the set of configurations may comprise an MCG configuration.

[0107] In some embodiments, the MCG configuration may comprise execution conditions for a subsequent CPC from the first candidate PSCell (e.g., the cell 142) to a set of second candidate PSCells. In other words, upon generation of an RRC reconfiguration including a conditional reconfiguration for the first candidate PSCell (e.g., the cell 142) , the MN may include the execution conditions for subsequent CPC from the first candidate PSCell (e.g., the cell 142) into the MCG configuration of an RRC reconfiguration in the conditional reconfiguration. Then the MN may transmit the RRC reconfiguration to the terminal device 120.

[0108] That is, in the MCG configuration, the execution conditions for subsequent CPC are set as execution conditions associated with conditional reconfiguration for candidate PSCells (e.g., the cell 141, the cell 151, etc. ) .

[0109] For illustration, an example procedure may be described as below.

[0110] The MN sends to the UE an RRCReconfiguration message including the CPAC configuration, i.e. a list of RRCReconfiguration*messages and associated execution conditions, in which each RRCReconfiguration*message contains an SCG configuration in an RRCReconfiguration**message received from a candidate SN and an MCG configuration. The MCG configuration may include execution conditions for subsequent CPC. Besides, the RRCReconfiguration message may also include an updated MCG configuration, as well as a NR RRCReconfiguration***message generated by the source SN, e.g., to configure the required conditional measurements.

[0111] In some embodiments, the MCG configuration may further comprise an indication of suspending or deactivating one or more configurations in the set of configurations associated with one or more second candidate PSCells. In other words, the MN may also include, in the MCG configuration, an indication of suspend or deactivation or invalidity of one conditional reconfiguration.

[0112] In some embodiments, if the target candidate SN (e.g., the network device 140) does not provide an execution condition for a subsequent CPC from a first candidate PSCell (e.g., the cell 142) to a second candidate PSCell (e.g., the cell 152) , or if the target candidate SN indicates in the SN addition request acknowledgement message that the subsequent CPC is not supported from the first candidate PSCell (e.g., the cell 142) to the second candidate PSCell (e.g., the cell 152) , the MN may include, in the MCG configuration, the indication of suspend or deactivation or invalidity of a conditional reconfiguration associated with the second candidate PSCell (i.e., the cell 152) . In some embodiments, the indication may be included in the conditional reconfiguration associated with the second candidate PSCell (i.e., the cell 152) .

[0113] With reference to FIG. 4, upon reception of the indication, or upon determination that no execution conditions for the subsequent CPAC from the first candidate PSCell to the one or more second candidate PSCells are received, the terminal device 120 may suspend or deactivate 440 the one or more configurations in the set of configurations. In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 may suspend or deactivate a conditional reconfiguration evaluation for the conditional reconfiguration associated. Alternatively or additionally, the terminal device 120 may consider the conditional reconfiguration as being suspended or deactivated or invalid.

[0114] In some embodiments, the first configuration may comprise the execution  conditions for the subsequent CPC from the first candidate PSCell (e.g., the cell 142) to the set of second candidate PSCells received from the network device 140 (i.e., the target candidate SN) . In other words, upon generation of an RRC reconfiguration including a conditional reconfiguration for a first candidate PSCell (e.g., the cell 142) of the target candidate SN (e.g., the network device 140) , the MN may include the execution conditions for subsequent CPC from the first candidate PSCell (i.e., the cell 142) into a conditional configuration for the first candidate PSCell (i.e., the cell 142) . Then the MN may transmit the RRC reconfiguration to the terminal device 120. The terminal device 120 receives the execution conditions for subsequent CPC, and stores it in a UE variable.

[0115] For illustration, an example procedure may be described as below.

[0116] The MN sends to the UE an RRCReconfiguration message including the CPAC configuration, i.e. a list of RRCReconfiguration*messages and associated execution conditions, and execution conditions for subsequent CPC, in which each RRCReconfiguration*message contains an SCG configuration in an RRCReconfiguration**message received from a candidate SN and an MCG configuration. Besides, the RRCReconfiguration message may also include an updated MCG configuration, as well as a NR RRCReconfiguration***message generated by the source SN, e.g., to configure the required conditional measurements.

[0117] Continuing to refer to FIG. 4, if a PSCell change or addition to the first candidate PSCell (e.g., the cell 142) is to be performed, the terminal device 120 may update 450 execution conditions stored for the set of second candidate PSCells with the execution conditions for the subsequent CPC from the first candidate PSCell to the set of second candidate PSCells. In other words, upon the PSCell change or addition to the first candidate PSCell, the terminal device 120 may update or set the execution conditions of the conditional reconfigurations associated with other candidate PSCells as the execution conditions for subsequent CPC.

[0118] In some embodiments, the PSCell change or addition may be a conditional PSCell change or addition. In some embodiments, the PSCell change or addition may be a non-conditional PSCell change or addition. In other words, upon successfully completing a random access procedure triggered for the reconfiguration with sync in SpCell configuration of the SCG, and the target PSCell is a candidate PSCell (e.g., the cell 142) . For example, the terminal device 120 may replace execution conditions of a conditional  reconfiguration associated with another candidate PSCell (e.g. the cell 151) in a UE variable with the execution conditions for subsequent CPC from the candidate PSCell (e.g., the cell 142) to the other candidate PSCell (e.g., the cell 151) .

[0119] In some embodiments, the first configuration may comprise an indication of suspending or deactivating one or more configurations in the set of configurations associated with one or more second candidate PSCells.

[0120] With reference to FIG. 4, upon reception of the indication, or upon determination that no execution conditions for the subsequent CPAC from the first candidate PSCell to the one or more second candidate PSCells are received, the terminal device 120 may suspend or deactivate 451 the one or more configurations in the set of configurations. In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 may suspend or deactivate a conditional reconfiguration evaluation for the conditional reconfiguration associated. Alternatively or additionally, the terminal device 120 may consider the conditional reconfiguration as being suspended or deactivated or invalid.

[0121] For example, if no execution conditions to trigger subsequent CPC from a conditional reconfiguration or a first candidate PSCell (e.g., the cell 142) to another conditional reconfiguration or a second candidate PSCell (e.g., the cell 152) is received, or an explicit indication of suspend or deactivation or invalidity of the other conditional reconfiguration or the second candidate PSCell is received, upon a PSCell change or addition to the first candidate PSCell (e.g., the cell 142) , the terminal device 120 may consider the other conditional reconfiguration or the second candidate PSCell (e.g., the cell 152) as being invalid or suspended or deactivated. Alternatively, the terminal device 120 may suspend or deactivate a condition reconfiguration evaluation for the other conditional reconfiguration or the second candidate PSCell (e.g., the cell 152) .

[0122] Based on the execution conditions for the subsequent CPAC, the terminal device 120 may perform a conditional reconfiguration evaluation.

[0123] With the process 400, generation of execution conditions for a subsequent CPC by candidate SNs may be supported.

[0124] It is to be understood that the steps and the order of the steps in FIGs. 2 to 4 are merely for illustration, and not for limitation. More or less steps may also be feasible.

[0125] EXAMPLE IMPLEMENTATION OF METHODS

[0126] Accordingly, embodiments of the present disclosure provide methods of communication implemented at a terminal device and an MN. These methods will be described below with reference to FIGs. 5 to 8.

[0127] FIG. 5 illustrates an example method 500 of communication implemented at a terminal device in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For example, the method 500 may be performed at the terminal device 120 as shown in FIG. 1. It is to be understood that the method 500 may include additional blocks not shown and / or may omit some blocks as shown, and the scope of the present disclosure is not limited in this regard.

[0128] As shown in FIG. 5, at block 510, the terminal device 120 determines that a subsequent CPAC is performed.

[0129] At block 520, the terminal device 120 determines that a bearer type for a DRB is changed for the subsequent CPAC. In some embodiments, if a key to be used for the DRB is changed, the terminal device 120 may determine that the bearer type for the DRB is changed. If the key to be used for the DRB is unchanged, the terminal device 120 may determine that the bearer type for the DRB is unchanged.

[0130] At block 530, the terminal device 120 performs a first operation. In some embodiments, the first operation may comprise re-establishing a PDCP entity of the DRB. In some embodiments, the first operation may comprise configuring the PDCP entity with a ciphering algorithm and a key for ciphering of data associated with a master key or a secondary key if the PDCP entity of the DRB is not configured with ciphering disabled. In some embodiments, the first operation may comprise configuring the PDCP entity with an integrity protection algorithm and a key for integrity protection of data associated with a master key or a secondary key if the PDCP entity of the DRB is configured with integrity protection. In some embodiments, the first operation may comprise re-establishing at least one RLC entity for at least one RLC bearer associated with the DRB. It is to be understood that the first operation may comprise any combination of the above operations.

[0131] In some embodiments, if the bearer type for the DRB is unchanged for the subsequent CPAC, the terminal device 120 may perform a second operation. In some embodiments, the second operation may comprise triggering the PDCP entity of the DRB to perform data recovery. In some embodiments, the second operation may comprise re-establishing at least one RLC entity for at least one SCG RLC bearer associated with the  DRB. It is to be understood that the second operation may comprise any combination of the above operations.

[0132] In this way, during a subsequent CPAC, a terminal device may perform L2 handling in case of a bearer type change without an explicit indication from a network. Thus, loss-less may be supported for AM DRBs.

[0133] FIG. 6 illustrates another example method 600 of communication implemented at a terminal device in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For example, the method 600 may be performed at the terminal device 120 as shown in FIG. 1. It is to be understood that the method 600 may include additional blocks not shown and / or may omit some blocks as shown, and the scope of the present disclosure is not limited in this regard.

[0134] As shown in FIG. 6, at block 610, the terminal device 120 determines that a subsequent CPC is to be performed from a first cell to a second cell.

[0135] At block 620, the terminal device 120 determines that the first cell is not a candidate PSCell for the subsequent CPC.

[0136] At block 630, the terminal device 120 performs an operation. In some embodiments, the operation may comprise determining that the subsequent CPC is the inter-SN subsequent CPC. In some embodiments, the operation may comprise determining that the subsequent CPC is the intra-SN subsequent CPC.

[0137] In some embodiments, the operation may comprise: determining that the subsequent CPC is an inter-SN subsequent CPC or an intra-SN subsequent CPC by determining a first identity value as an identity value of a serving cell and comparing the first identity value and a second identity value for the second cell.

[0138] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 may determine the first identity value based on a configuration of the first identity value from an MN (e.g., the network device 110) or an SN (e.g., the target candidate SN) . In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 may determine the first identity value as a default value.

[0139] In some embodiments, if the first identity value is the same as the second identity value, the terminal device 120 may determine that the subsequent CPC is the intra-SN subsequent CPC. In some embodiments, if the first identity value is different from the second identity value, the terminal device 120 may determine that the subsequent CPC is  the inter-SN subsequent CPC. In some embodiments, if the subsequent CPC is the inter-SN subsequent CPC, the terminal device 120 may replace the identity value of the serving cell with the second identity value.

[0140] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 may determine that the subsequent CPC is the inter-SN subsequent CPC based on at least one of the following: the first cell is not configured with the first identity value, or the second cell is not configured with the second identity value. In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 may determine that the subsequent CPC is the intra-SN subsequent CPC based on at least one of the following: the first cell is not configured with the first identity value, or the second cell is not configured with the second identity value.

[0141] In some embodiments, if the subsequent CPC is the inter-SN subsequent CPC, the terminal device 120 may derive a secondary key by using a security key counter in a list of security key counters associated with the second identity value, and discard the security key counter from the list of security key counters.

[0142] In some embodiments, if the subsequent CPC is the inter-SN subsequent CPC, the terminal device 120 may perform, for a DRB as an SN terminated DRB, an operation comprising at least one of the following: re-establishing a PDCP entity of the DRB; configuring the PDCP entity with a ciphering algorithm and a key for ciphering of data associated with a secondary key if the PDCP entity of the DRB is not configured with ciphering disabled; configuring the PDCP entity with an integrity protection algorithm and a key for integrity protection of data associated with a secondary key if the PDCP entity of the DRB is configured with integrity protection; or re-establishing at least one RLC entity for at least one RLC bearer associated with the DRB.

[0143] In some embodiments, if the subsequent CPC is the inter-SN subsequent CPC, the terminal device 120 may perform, for at least one SRB between an SN corresponding to the second cell and the terminal device, an operation comprising at least one of the following: re-establishing a PDCP entity for the at least one SRB; configuring the PDCP entity to apply a ciphering algorithm and a key for ciphering of a radio resource control (RRC) signaling associated with a secondary key; configuring the PDCP entity to apply an integrity protection algorithm and a key for integrity protection of the RRC signaling associated with the secondary key; or re-establishing at least one RLC entity for at least one RLC bearer associated with the at least one SRB.

[0144] In some embodiments, if the subsequent CPC is the inter-SN subsequent CPC, the terminal device 120 may perform an operation comprising at least one of the following: re-establishing at least one radio link control (RLC) entity for at least one SCG RLC bearer associated with a DRB as an MN terminated DRB; re-establishing at least one RLC entity for at least one SCG RLC bearer associated with an SRB between the MN and the terminal device; or re-establishing RLC entities for all SCG RLC bearers.

[0145] In some embodiments, if the subsequent CPC is the intra-SN subsequent CPC, the terminal device 120 may perform, for a DRB as an SN terminated DRB, an operation comprising at least one of the following: triggering a PDCP entity of the DRB to perform data recovery; or re-establishing at least one RLC entity for at least one SCG RLC bearer associated with the DRB.

[0146] In some embodiments, if the subsequent CPC is the intra-SN subsequent CPC, the terminal device 120 may perform, for an SRB between an SN and the terminal device, an operation comprising at least one of the following: triggering a PDCP entity of the SRB to perform an SDU discard; or re-establishing at least one RLC entity for at least one SCG RLC bearer associated with the SRB.

[0147] In some embodiments, if the subsequent CPC is the intra-SN subsequent CPC, the terminal device 120 may perform an operation comprising at least one of the following: re-establishing at least one RLC entity for at least one SCG RLC bearer associated with at least one SRB between an MN and the terminal device; re-establishing at least one RLC entity for at least one SCG RLC bearer associated with a DRB as an MN terminated DRB; or re-establishing RLC entities for all SCG RLC bearers.

[0148] In this way, during a subsequent CPAC, a terminal device may identify intra-SN subsequent CPC and inter-SN subsequent CPC. This may facilitate performing different behaviors on security key update and L2 handling for the case of intra-SN subsequent CPC and the case of inter-SN subsequent CPC.

[0149] FIG. 7 illustrates still another example method 700 of communication implemented at a terminal device in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For example, the method 700 may be performed at the terminal device 120 as shown in FIG. 1. It is to be understood that the method 700 may include additional blocks not shown and / or may omit some blocks as shown, and the scope of the present disclosure is not limited in this regard.

[0150] As shown in FIG. 7, at block 710, the terminal device 120 receives, from an MN, a first configuration of a subsequent CPAC associated with a first candidate PSCell of a candidate SN. The first configuration comprises a set of configurations and a configuration in the set of configurations comprises an MCG configuration.

[0151] In some embodiments, the MCG configuration may comprise execution conditions for a subsequent CPC from the first candidate PSCell to a set of second candidate PSCells. In some embodiments, the MCG configuration may further comprise an indication of suspending or deactivating one or more configurations in the set of configurations associated with one or more second candidate PSCells. In some embodiments, if the indication is received or no execution conditions for the subsequent CPAC from the first candidate PSCell to the one or more second candidate PSCells are received, the terminal device 120 may suspend or deactivate the one or more configurations in the set of configurations.

[0152] In some embodiments, the first configuration may comprise the execution conditions for the subsequent CPC from the first candidate PSCell to the set of second candidate PSCells. In some embodiments, if a PSCell change or addition to the first candidate PSCell is to be performed, the terminal device 120 may update execution conditions stored for the set of second candidate PSCells with the execution conditions for the subsequent CPC from the first candidate PSCell to the set of second candidate PSCells.

[0153] In some embodiments, the first configuration may further comprise an indication of suspending or deactivating one or more configurations in the set of configurations associated with one or more second candidate PSCells. In some embodiments, if the indication is received or no execution conditions for the subsequent CPAC from the first candidate PSCell to the one or more second candidate PSCells are received, the terminal device 120 may suspend or deactivate the one or more configurations in the set of configurations.

[0154] In this way, generation of execution conditions for a subsequent CPC by candidate SNs may be supported.

[0155] FIG. 8 illustrates an example method 800 of communication implemented at an MN in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For example, the method 800 may be performed at the network device 110 as shown in FIG. 1. It is to be understood that the method 800 may include additional blocks not shown and / or may omit  some blocks as shown, and the scope of the present disclosure is not limited in this regard.
