Abstract
Description
[0001] FIELD OF THE INVENTION This invention relates to a mobile device peripheral accessory, particularly a mobile device protective case assembly. Background: With the increasing frequency of modern mobile device use, a wide variety of protective cases are now available on the market to protect mobile devices from damage or malfunction caused by accidental drops. These cases are designed to be attached to mobile devices such as mobile phones, tablets, e-book readers, personal digital assistants, smart watches, and wireless charging cases for headphones. Conventional protective cases typically have side frames that form a complete ring, completely covering the edges of the mobile device (excluding openings provided for various functional areas of the mobile device). SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION: Research has revealed that when a mobile device is dropped or subjected to other impacts, the corners of the device are often the most vulnerable areas. However, when impact forces are applied to the corners of existing protective covers, the circular side frames are unable to quickly distribute the impact force to the side rails. This results in a significant amount of the impact force being transferred to the interior of the mobile device, potentially damaging internal components. Consequently, the cushioning and protective effects of existing protective covers have long been difficult to improve. In light of the aforementioned shortcomings of the prior art, the applicant, feeling that they are not yet perfect, has devoted considerable effort to research and overcome these shortcomings, successfully developing a mobile device protective case assembly that can quickly distribute the forces applied to the corners to both sides, preventing the impact force from being concentrated in the corners of the mobile device. To achieve these and other objectives, the present invention provides a mobile device protective case assembly comprising a body having a frame surrounded by a plurality of side rails, wherein a notch is formed between two adjacent side rails; and corner pieces disposed within the notch, with the ends of the corner pieces respectively connected to the two adjacent side rails. In the mobile device protective case assembly, the corner pieces cover the outer periphery of the frame and conceal the notch. In the aforementioned mobile device protective case set, the number of corner pieces can correspond to the number of notches, so that each notch can be positioned with a single corner piece. In the aforementioned mobile device protective case set, the body can include a back panel, the frame can be connected to the circumferential edge of the back panel, the frame has a front flange, and the notch can extend rearward from the front flange to penetrate the rear surface of the back panel and extend toward the center of the back panel. In the aforementioned mobile device protective case set, the body can include a back panel, the frame can be connected to the circumferential edge of the back panel, the frame has a front flange, and the notch can extend rearward from the front flange to a point where it connects to the back panel, without penetrating the back panel. In the above-mentioned mobile device protective case assembly, the main body may consist of only a back plate, the frame may be connected to the circumferential edge of the back plate, the frame may have a front flange, and the notch may extend rearward from the front flange, but not extending to the point where the frame connects to the back plate. In the above-mentioned mobile device protective case assembly, each of the two side bars adjacent to the notch may have at least one positioning hole, and each end of the corner piece may be provided with at least one positioning post, with the positioning posts at each end of the corner piece respectively assembled and engaged with the positioning holes located on either side of the notch. In the above-mentioned mobile device protective case assembly, the positioning holes may pass through the inner and outer surfaces of the frame, and the positioning posts may include a through post and a latch head, the through post passing through the positioning hole, and the latch head latching onto the inner surface of the frame. In the above-mentioned mobile device protective case assembly, the positioning hole may have a large diameter section and a small diameter section, the large diameter section being closer to the inner surface of the frame than the small diameter section, the positioning post may include a through post and a latch head, the through post being located opposite the small diameter section. The latch head is retained in the large-diameter section. In the aforementioned mobile device protective case assembly, the positioning hole may be recessed from the outer surface of the frame but not extend through the inner surface of the frame. In the aforementioned mobile device protective case assembly, the positioning post may be sized to conform to the opening provided in the frame corresponding to the functional portion of the mobile device, and the positioning post may be provided with at least one hole. In the aforementioned mobile device protective case assembly, the corner piece and the frame may be integrally formed and connected. In the aforementioned mobile device protective case assembly, the frame and the corner piece may be made of materials with a hardness difference. In the aforementioned mobile device protective case assembly, the surface of the corner piece facing the frame may be recessed to form at least one air pocket. Accordingly, the mobile device protective case assembly of the present invention can absorb impact force from the corner piece and quickly distribute the impact force to the two adjacent side strips to which the corner piece is connected, thereby effectively enhancing the overall cushioning and protection performance of the mobile device protective case assembly. Furthermore, the cavity formed by the notch not only provides a buffering and energy dissipation effect, but also effectively prevents the impact force from being directly concentrated on the corners of the mobile device. Therefore, the mobile device protective case assembly of the present invention can provide more effective protection for the mobile device and prevent it from being damaged. [0016] The following, with reference to the accompanying drawings, further describes the mobile device protective case assembly, its main frame, and assembly components according to embodiments of the present invention. The aforementioned and other technical aspects, features, and functions of the present invention will be clearly presented in the following detailed description of the preferred embodiments with reference to the accompanying drawings. It is worth noting that the use of the quantifiers "a" or "an" in the components and members described herein is merely for convenience and to provide a general understanding of the scope of the present invention. Throughout the present invention, the term "one" or "an" should be interpreted as including one or at least one, and a single concept also includes the plural unless it is obvious that it implies otherwise. Throughout the present invention, similar terms such as "combine," "assemble," or "assemble" primarily encompass connection that allows for separation without damaging the components, or connection that renders the components inseparable. Those skilled in the art can select the appropriate term based on the materials of the components to be connected or assembly requirements. Furthermore, in the following embodiments, identical or similar components will be referenced using the same or similar reference numerals. The mobile device protective case assembly of the present invention is suitable for being mounted on a mobile device. The mobile device may be, for example, but not limited to, a mobile phone, a tablet computer, an e-book reader, a personal digital assistant, a smart watch, or a wireless charging case for headphones. Although the following embodiments are presented using a mobile device protective case assembly suitable for a mobile phone as an example, this does not limit the present invention. Please refer to FIG1 , which is a first embodiment of the mobile device protective case assembly of the present invention. The mobile device protective case assembly includes a wooden body 1 and at least one corner piece 2. The wooden body 1 has a frame 1a, which is surrounded by a plurality of side strips 11. The side strips 11 and 24 together form a chamber S suitable for accommodating the mobile device. A notch 12 is formed between two adjacent side strips 11 of the frame 1a. The notch 12 extends through the inner and outer surfaces of the frame 1a. The corner piece 2 is disposed in the notch 12, with its ends connected to the two adjacent side strips 11. In this embodiment, When a mobile device encased in this mobile device protective case assembly is dropped or otherwise impacted, the corner pieces 2 absorb the impact force acting on the corners and quickly distribute the force to the two adjacent side bars 11 to which they connect, effectively enhancing the overall cushioning and protection provided by the mobile device protective case assembly. Furthermore, the cavity formed by the notch 12 not only provides a buffering and energy dissipation effect, but also effectively prevents the impact force from being concentrated directly on the corners of the mobile device. Therefore, the mobile device protective case assembly of this embodiment provides more effective protection for the mobile device, making it less susceptible to damage.More specifically, taking a non-foldable upright mobile phone as an example, a mobile device typically has a display screen, side edges, and a back side. The display screen is opposite the back side, and the side edges can be connected between the display screen and the back side. When the mobile device protective case assembly of the present invention is mounted on the mobile device, the body 1 can cover the mobile device and, during use, at least the touch screen of the mobile device is exposed. In this invention, the direction perpendicular to the plane of the small screen can be defined as the Z direction, with the display screen being the forward direction and the back side being the rear direction. The side edge of the mobile device has two sets of opposing edges, and the relative directions of the two sets of opposing edges are perpendicular to each other and to the Z direction. In one embodiment of the present invention, one set of opposing sides is the two short sides of the side edge, and they intersect simultaneously. The direction of the two short sides is defined as the Y direction; the other set of opposing sides is the two long sides of the side edge, and the direction perpendicular to the two long sides is defined as the X direction. In some embodiments, the side edge of the mobile device does not necessarily have long and short sides. Referring to Figures 1 and 2, in one embodiment of the present invention, the main body 1 may include a back panel 1b, and the frame 1a is connected to the circumferential edge of the back panel 1b, so that the frame 1a and the back panel 1b can jointly form the aforementioned chamber S. In this embodiment, the frame 1a is integrally formed and connected to the circumferential edge of the back panel 1b; in other embodiments, the frame 1a is detachably connected to the circumferential edge of the back panel 1b (for example, using an embedded structure), and the present invention is not limited thereto. The front end of the frame 1a in the Z direction may form a front flange 13 protruding toward the chamber S. Accordingly, the mobile device assembled in the chamber S can be aligned with the back panel 1b from the back side. The side edge of the mobile device can then be aligned with the frame body 1a, and the side edge of the mobile device can be constrained between the flange 13 and the back panel 1b. Furthermore, in one embodiment of the present invention, the cross-section of the frame body 1a in the XY plane can be roughly a hollow rectangle. Therefore, the frame body 1a can be formed by four side bars 11. Any two adjacent side bars 11 can form arc-shaped or nearly right-angled corners at adjacent locations. In this embodiment, the number of notches 12 can be four, each aligned with the four corners of the frame body 1a.However, the present invention is not limited to this. For example, in other embodiments, the notches 12 may be formed only at the two upper corners of the frame 1a, only at the two lower corners of the frame 1a, or selectively at two corners of one pair of corners of the frame 1a. In other words, the notches 12 are preferably located at the corners of the frame 1a, but the number is not limited. The number and location of the notches 12 can be adjusted based on the overall structural configuration or appearance of the mobile device protective case assembly. Referring to Figures 2 and 3, in one embodiment of the present invention, the frame 1a is provided with several positioning holes 14 for assembling the corner piece 2. Specifically, each of the two side bars 11 adjacent to the notch 12 has at least one positioning hole 14, respectively, for assembling the two ends of the corner piece 2. It is worth noting that the positioning holes 14 can be openings provided in the frame 1a to accommodate various functional areas of the mobile device, such as speaker holes, sound receiving holes, or pendant holes. Alternatively, the positioning holes 14 can be additional openings that can be adjusted based on the number of openings surrounding the notch 12, and are not limited to the configuration shown in the drawings of this embodiment. In one embodiment, the positioning holes 14 can extend through both the inner and outer surfaces of the frame 1a. In other embodiments, the positioning holes 14 can be recessed from the outer surface of the frame 1a but not extend through the inner surface N of the frame 1a (as shown in FIG. 12 , described in detail below). The corner piece 2 can be a thin plate with a generally curved or nearly right-angled shape to match the corner shape of the frame 1a. The number of corner pieces 2 can correspond to the number of notches 12 provided in the frame 1a, so that each notch 12 can be positioned with a single corner piece 2. The corner pieces 2 are positioned in the notches 12, and the ends of the corner pieces 2 are respectively connected to the two adjacent side strips 11 adjacent to the notches 12, so that the corner pieces 2 cover the outer perimeter of the frame 1a and conceal the notches 12.
[0017] In one embodiment of the present invention, at least one positioning post 21 may be provided at each end of the corner piece 2, so that the positioning posts 21 at both ends of the corner piece 2 can be respectively assembled and coupled to the positioning holes 14 located on both sides of the notch 12. Referring to Figures 3 and 5, for example but not limitation, the positioning post 21 of this embodiment may include a through post 211 and a K latch 212. The through post 211 can pass through the positioning hole 14, and the F latch 212 can be engaged with the inner surface N of the frame 1a. Referring to Figure 6, taking the corner piece 2 in the upper right corner as an example, the positioning post 21 located at the speaker hole can partially protrude from the end edge of the corner piece 2, and the positioning post 21 can engage and buckle the side edge of the speaker hole. In addition, when the positioning hole 14 is small, the corner piece 2 can also be provided with multiple positioning posts 21 for aligning a single side strip 11; for example, the corner piece 2 can be provided with two adjacent positioning posts 21. The positioning posts 21 can be respectively engaged with the pendant holes forming the two positioning holes 14 (right side of Figure 6 ). Alternatively, referring to Figure 13 , in other embodiments, the positioning posts 21 can be sized to match the dimensions of the openings provided in the frame 1a corresponding to the functional areas of the mobile device, such as the dimensions of a speaker hole. Furthermore, the positioning posts 21 can also be provided with sound holes. Thus, the positioning posts 21 can completely fill the speaker holes, enhancing the strength and stability of the connection between the corner piece 2 and the positioning holes 14 (the speaker holes) while also maintaining the original functionality of the positioning holes 14 (the sound transmission function of the speaker holes). Referring to Figures 3 and 4 , in one embodiment of the present invention, the notch 12 can extend rearward from the front flange 13 of the frame 1a to penetrate the rear surface 15 of the back panel 1b (indicated in Figure 4 ), creating a truncated corner of the frame 1a. Furthermore, the notch 12 can further extend a predetermined distance toward the center of the back panel 1b. In this manner, The notch 12 effectively interrupts the transmission of impact forces to the corners of the mobile device. Furthermore, the larger cavity formed by the notch 12 provides improved energy dissipation and cushioning. Referring to Figure 7 , in one embodiment of the present invention, the notch 12 can extend rearward from the front flange 13 of the frame 1a to the point where it connects to the back panel 1b, without penetrating the back panel 1b. This makes the notch 12 virtually invisible from the back of the mobile device protective case assembly, providing a visual effect distinct from the embodiment of Figure 4 .Referring to Figure 8 , in one embodiment of the present invention, the notch 12 can extend rearward from the front flange 13 of the frame 1a by a predetermined distance, but not yet extending to the point where the frame 1a connects to the back panel 1b. This allows the notch 12 and the corner piece 2 to achieve the aforementioned enhanced protection of the mobile device while largely preserving the original structure of the wooden body 1, while also reducing the chance of dust and other foreign matter accumulating between the mobile device and the main body 1. Furthermore, the materials of the main body 1 (particularly the frame 1a) and the corner piece 2 can differ only in hardness. For example, the corner piece 2 can be made harder than the wooden body 1, making it more impact-resistant and easier to disassemble. Alternatively, the corner piece 2 can be made harder than the main body 1, providing better shock absorption. Please refer to Figures 9 and 10, which illustrate a second embodiment of the mobile device protective case assembly of the present invention. This embodiment is substantially similar to the first embodiment described above, with the primary difference being that the corner piece 2 of this embodiment is integrally connected to the frame 1a of the main body 1. Therefore, this embodiment eliminates the need for the aforementioned positioning holes 14 and positioning posts 21 (both shown in Figure 3), eliminates the need for assembling the corner piece 2 to the frame 1a, and prevents the corner piece 2 from falling off or being lost. The main body 1 (particularly the frame 1a) and the corner piece 2 of this embodiment may still be made of materials with different hardnesses. For example, the corner piece 2 may be fabricated first, and then the main body 1 may be formed using an overmolding process to achieve the configuration shown in this embodiment. Furthermore, the main body 1 of the aforementioned embodiments may also be provided without the back panel 1b, so that the frame 1a covers and positions the side edges of the mobile device, leaving the back of the mobile device exposed. When the main body 1 lacks the back panel 1b, The notch 12 is preferably as shown in Figure 8 . The front flange 13 of the frame 1a extends rearward and does not extend to the point where the frame 1a connects to the back panel 1b, thereby enhancing product reliability. Referring to Figure 11 , this shows a second embodiment of the mobile device protective case assembly of the present invention. This embodiment is substantially similar to the first embodiment described above, with the primary difference being that the inner side of the corner piece 2 (the surface facing the frame 1a) in this embodiment can be recessed to form at least one air pocket G, enhancing the impact absorption capability of the corner piece 2 and contributing to its lightweight design. Please refer to Figure 12, which shows a fourth embodiment of a mobile device protective case assembly according to the present invention. This embodiment is substantially similar to the first embodiment described above, with the primary difference being that the positioning hole 14 of this embodiment is recessed from the outer surface of the frame 1a but does not extend through the inner surface N of the frame 1a. Specifically, the inner wall of the positioning hole 14 of this embodiment can be stepped, comprising a large-diameter section 141 and a small-diameter section 142. The large-diameter section 141 is closer to the inner surface N of the frame 1a than the small-diameter section 142. Consequently, the positioning post 21 of the corner fitting 2 can be inserted into the positioning hole 14, with the through-post 211 aligned with the small-diameter section 142, while the latch head 212 remains within the large-diameter section 141, enhancing the secure connection of the corner fitting 2. Furthermore, the latch head 212 of the positioning post 21 does not protrude from the inner surface N of the frame 1a and into the chamber S, thereby minimizing interference with the installation of the mobile device. It is worth mentioning that in certain embodiments, the positioning holes 14 extending through the inner and outer surfaces of the frame 1a can also be formed into a structure having a large-diameter section 141 and a small-diameter section 142 as shown in FIG12 . This can also achieve the technical effect of not interfering with the movement of the device when installing the corner piece 2. The above description is merely an embodiment of the present invention and is not intended to limit the scope of the present invention.
