Description

COMPLETE SPECIFICATIONTitle of the invention:AN ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE FOR A VEHICLE WITHAN INTEGRATED DC-DC CONVERTERComplete specification:The following specification particularly describes the invention and the manner in which it is to be performed.Field of the invention:

[0001] The present disclosure relates to an anti-lock braking system (ABS) module for a vehicle, and particularly to the ABS module with an integrated DC- DC converter. Background of the invention:

[0002] An ABS module is an advanced braking technology installed on the vehicles to prevent wheel lock-up and uncontrollable skidding. The ABS module is also known as an Anti-skid braking system module. The ABS module prevents wheel lock-up and uncontrollable skidding by pulsating the braking force, in such a manner that the maximum braking force is applied to prevent wheel-slip.

[0003] The ABS module for a vehicle comprises four main components: a pump, a motor to operate the pump, at least one valve and a control unit. As the ABS module operates at a specific voltage, an external DC-DC converter is employed to step down the voltage from a primary power source to the specific voltage of a secondary power source which is connected to the ABS module. In addition to this, a wiring harness to charge the secondary power source is also required.

[0004] CN214255797 U discloses a power supply circuit and a power supply system, which are used for supplying power to an anti-lock braking system through a power battery pack, a DC / DC converter, a current-limiting resistor and the anti-lock braking system which are connected in sequence. The output current of the power battery pack is adjusted through the DC / DC converter and the current-limiting resistor to charge the power supply battery, then the power supply battery supplies power to the ABS system, the power supply battery can meet the large current condition for supplying power to the ABS system, the electric vehicle supports the ABS system, the driving safety is improved, and in addition, the power supply battery can be used for supplying power to the ABS system. Compared with a DC / DC converter capable of meeting the power supply condition of the ABS system, the power supply battery adopted by the utility model is lower in cost.

[0005] As known in the art, implementing the ABS module in the vehicle requires stepping down the voltage from the primary power source to a lower voltage, say twelve volts, at which the ABS module operates. The requirement of stepping down the voltage for the ABS module requires the external DC-DC converter, a battery as the secondary power source, and the wiring harness to charge the battery for steady power supply to the ABS module. The problem posed by employing the external DC-DC converter with the battery and additional wiring harness is that it increases the total cost and weight of the vehicle and increases the possibility of electric failures.

[0006] The present invention solves all the above-mentioned problems in a manner as described in the claims.Brief description of the accompanying drawings:

[0007] An embodiment of the disclosure is described with reference to the following accompanying drawings.

[0008] Fig. 1 illustrates block diagram of an ABS module assembly with an external DC-DC converter with a battery, as already known in the art; and

[0009] Fig. 2 illustrates block diagram of an ABS module with an integrated DC- DC converter, according to an embodiment of the present invention.Detailed description of the embodiments:

[0010] Fig. 1 illustrates block diagram of an ABS module 100 assembly, as already known in the art. The ABS module 100 is connected an external DC-DC converter 114 and a battery 116 for an implementation in the vehicle. The external DC-DC converter 114 steps down the voltage from a primary power source 112 and charges the battery 116, using a wiring harness (not shown). The battery 116 provides a steady power supply to the ABS module 100 at a lower voltage for its operation. The ABS module 100 comprises a control unit 110 and a hydraulic unit which comprises at least one pump 102 coupled to at least one electric motor 106 and at least one valve 108, to enable the functionality of anti- lock braking.

[0011] Fig. 2 illustrates block diagram of an ABS module with an integrated DC- DC converter, according to an embodiment of the present invention. The ABS module 200 for the vehicle comprises at least one pump 102 connectable to a brake master cylinder 104, at least one electric motor 106 to operate at least one pump 102, at least one valve 108 in fluid communication with at least one pump 102, and a control unit 110, powered by the primary power source 112 through the DC-DC converter 114, to operatively control at least one electric motor 106 and at least one valve 108, characterized in that the DC-DC converter 114 is integrated within the control unit 110 of the ABS module 200. The internal component of the ABS module 200 is not explained in detail due to being state of the art, however the same must not be understood in limiting manner. The ABSmodule 200 illustrated in Fig. 2 can be referred to as modified ABS module 200 or improved ABS module 200 due to being an improved variant of the existing or conventional ABS module 100 explained in Fig. 1.

[0012] In an embodiment of the present invention, the power to at least one electric motor 106 is supplied through the DC-DC converter 114. In another embodiment of the present invention, the power to at least one valve 108 is supplied through the DC-DC converter 114. In yet another embodiment of the invention, the stepped down voltage from the DC-DC converter 114 is suppliable to any peripheral component within the ABS module 200. The peripheral component includes any input / output component within the ABS module 200.

[0013] The ABS module 200 is for the vehicle selected from a group comprising of an electric two-wheeler, an electric three-wheeler, an electric four-wheeler, and an electric multi-wheel vehicle.

[0014] In an embodiment of the present invention, the primary power source 112 is a forty-eight volts battery. In another embodiment of the present invention, the DC-DC converter 114 steps down the voltage of the primary power source 112 to twelve volts.

[0015] In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, the ABS module 200 is implementable for any voltage source as per requirement which eliminates the use of the external DC-DC converter and a low voltage battery. Although, an example of forty-eight volts battery is provided, but the ABS module 200 is configurable to be designed for higher voltages as well, such as fifty-six volts, seventy-two volts, ninety-six volts, and the like. Similarly, as the lower voltage is mentioned to be twelve volts, but again, the integrated DC-DC converter 114 is possible to be designed for lower voltages as well such as twenty-four volts, five volts, and the like.

[0016] According to the present invention, the ABS module 200 with the DC-DC converter 114 integrated within the control unit 110 is disclosed. The present invention solves the problems present in the state of art. In addition to this, thepresent invention by integrating the DC-DC converter 114 in the ABS module 200 removes the requirement of employing an external DC-DC converter 114, a battery 116 and the wiring harness thereby reducing the total cost and weight of the ABS module 200 assembly along with the probability of electric failures. Further, the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) are provided with a plug- and-play type of assembly.

[0017] It should be understood that the embodiments explained in the description above are only illustrative and do not limit the scope of this invention. Many such embodiments and other modification and changes in the embodiment explained in the description are envisaged. The scope of the invention is only limited by the scope of the claims.
