Description

DEVICES AND METHODS OF COMMUNICATIONTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] Embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to the field of telecommunication, and in particular, to devices and methods of communication for mobility robustness optimization (MRO) for layer 1 (L1) or layer 2 (L2) triggered mobility (LTM) .BACKGROUND

[0002] Self-organizing networks (SON) , which encompasses solutions for network self-configuration and self-optimization, has been introduced to support deployment of system and performance optimization. One of the SON function is MRO, which aims at detecting and enabling correction of connection failure due to intra-system or inter-system mobility, inter-system unnecessary handover (HO) , inter-system HO ping-pong, or primary secondary cell (PSCell) change failure. For detection of a sub-optimal successful mobility, MRO additionally enables observability of successful HO due to intra-new radio (NR) and inter-radio access technology (RAT) mobility, and successful PSCell change. With introduction of LTM as a new mobility procedure, the MRO function for SON needs to be further enhanced for better LTM performance.SUMMARY

[0032] In the context of the present disclosure, the term “a cell switch” may be interchangeably used with “reconfiguration with sync for secondary cell group (SCG) or master cell group (MCG) ” or “a cell change” . The term “PSCell” refers to a special cell (SpCell) of a SCG, the term “primary cell (PCell) ” refers to a SpCell of an MCG, and the term “SpCell” refers to a primary cell of an SCG or MCG. The term “secondary cell (SCell) ” refers to a secondary cell. The term “lower-layer signaling” may be interchangeably used with “L1 / L2 signaling” . The term “RRC reconfiguration” may be interchangeably used with “RRC reconfiguration message” . The term “candidate cell” may be interchangeably used with “LTM candidate cell” or “candidate cell allowing LTM” .  The term “target cell” may be interchangeably used with “target candidate cell” , “candidate target cell” , or “LTM target candidate cell” .

[0033] When a terminal device moves from a coverage area of one cell to another cell, a serving cell change may need to be performed at some point. Conventionally, a serving cell change is triggered by layer 3 (L3) measurements and is done by an RRC signaling triggered reconfiguration with synchronization for change of PCell and PSCell. All these cases involve complete L2 (and L1) resets, leading to longer latency, larger overhead and longer interruption time than beam switch mobility. A goal of LTM is to enable a serving cell change via L1 / L2 signaling, in order to reduce the latency, overhead and interruption time.

[0034] LTM is a procedure in which a network device (e.g., gNB) receives L1 measurement report (s) from a terminal device (e.g., UE) , and on their basis the network device changes the terminal device’s serving cell by a cell switch command signaled via a MAC CE. The cell switch command indicates an LTM candidate cell configuration that the network device previously prepared and provided to the terminal device through an RRC signaling. Then the terminal device switches to a target cell according to the cell switch command.

[0035] The network device indicates in the cell switch command whether the terminal device accesses the target cell with a random access (RA) procedure if a timing advance (TA) value is not provided or with a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) transmission using an indicated TA value. For random access channel (RACH) -less LTM, the terminal device may access the target cell via a configured grant (CG) provided in the RRC signaling and selects a CG occasion associated with a beam indicated in the cell switch command. If the terminal device does not receive the CG in the RRC signaling, the terminal device may monitor a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) for dynamic scheduling from the target cell upon LTM cell switch.

[0036] For the LTM cell switch procedure, an MRO function for SON needs to be further enhanced for better performance of the LTM cell switch procedure.

[0037] Embodiments of the present disclosure provide solutions of communication for MRO for LTM. In one aspect, a terminal device may store information of an LTM cell switch procedure from a source cell to a target cell, and report the information to a network device. The information may comprise at least one of the following: L1 measurement  results collected until a failure of the LTM cell switch procedure or successful completion of the LTM cell switch procedure; received information in an LTM cell switch command triggering the LTM cell switch procedure; a TA value measured by the terminal device; a difference between a TA value received from the LTM cell switch command and the TA value measured by the terminal device; an indication of whether the LTM cell switch procedure skips an RA procedure; an indication of whether an uplink grant used for an initial uplink transmission of the LTM cell switch procedure skipping the RA procedure is a configured grant or a dynamic grant; a configuration of the configured grant used during the LTM cell switch procedure skipping the RA procedure; a set of activated TCI states of the target cell; time elapsed since initiation of the LTM cell switch procedure until the successful completion of the LTM cell switch procedure; time elapsed since a last LTM cell switch procedure until a connection failure; time elapsed since the failure of the LTM cell switch procedure; or time elapsed since reception of a latest LTM configuration until the initiation of the LTM cell switch procedure. In this way, the network device may use the information reported by the terminal device to optimize LTM configuration and performance.

[0038] In another aspect, DU of a network device may determine a configuration for a storing of information of an LTM cell switch procedure from a source cell to a target cell, and transmit the configuration to a CU of the network device. The CU may transmit the configuration to a terminal device. The configuration may comprise at least one of the following: a number threshold for number of RLC retransmissions, a measurement threshold for an L1 measurement of a serving cell, a counter threshold for a counter for a preamble transmission of an RA procedure for the source cell or the target cell, a timer threshold for a timer for a configured grant, a first ratio threshold for a ratio between a value of elapsed time of a timer for a reconfiguration with sync procedure and a configured value of the timer for the reconfiguration with sync procedure, a second ratio threshold for a ratio between a value of elapsed time of a timer for an RLF detection and a configured value of the timer for the RLF detection, a third ratio threshold for a ratio between a value of elapsed time of a timer for an RLF recovery and a configured value of the timer for the RLF recovery, or an indication indicating the storing of the first information upon successful completion of the LTM cell switch procedure. In this way, DU may configure a triggering condition of reporting an LTM cell switch procedure for a terminal device. With a lower layer parameter based triggering condition, information of a sub-optimal LTM cell  switch may be collected and reported to a network for further enhancement of LTM performance.

[0039] Principles and implementations of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the figures.

[0040] EXAMPLE OF COMMUNICATION NETWORK

[0041] FIG. 1 illustrates a schematic diagram of an example communication network 100 in which some embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. As shown in FIG. 1, the communication network 100 may include a terminal device 110 and network devices 120 and 130. The network device 120 may provide one or more cells (cells 122-1, 122-2, 123-1, and 123-2 as shown) to serve one or more terminal devices. The network device 130 may also provide one or more cells (not shown) to serve one or more terminal devices.

[0042] As shown in FIG. 1, the network device 120 may comprise a CU 121 and DUs 122 and 123. The CU 121 may communicate with the DUs 122 and 123. It is to be understood that the two DUs 122 and 123 are shown only for illustration, and more or less DUs may also be provided for implementation of embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0043] As shown in FIG. 1, the DU 122 provides the cells 122-1 and 122-2 and the DU 123 provides the cells 123-1 and 123-2. It is to be understood that this is merely an example, and any of the DUs 122 and 123 may provide more or less cells. The terminal device 110 may communicate with any of these cells. In this example, the terminal device 110 is located in the cell 123-1 and served by the network device 120.

[0044] Although not shown, the network device 130 may comprise a CU and one or more DUs as described in connection with the network device 120. Alternatively, the network device 130 may not be implemented in a CU-DU architecture, and may be implemented in an integrated architecture as shown.

[0045] The CU 121 may communicate with the network device 130. In some embodiments where the network device 130 comprises a CU and one or more DUs, the CU 121 may communicate with the CU of the network device 130.

[0046] As shown in FIG. 1, the communication network 100 may further include a core network (CN) 135. The terminal device 110 may communicate with the CN 135 via the network device 120 and / or the network device 130. In this example, the terminal device  110 may communicate with the CU 121 via the DU 123 and the CU 121 may further communicate with the CN 135.

[0047] It is to be understood that the number of devices or cells or CUs or DUs in FIG. 1 is given for the purpose of illustration without suggesting any limitations to the present disclosure. The communication network 100 may include any suitable number of network devices and / or terminal devices and / or cells and / or CUs and / or DUs adapted for implementing implementations of the present disclosure.

[0048] A CU (e.g., the CU 121) may be responsible for accomplishing functionalities of RRC, SDAP and PDCP entities, and a DU (e.g., the DU 122 or 123 may be responsible for accomplishing functionalities of the RLC entity, the MAC entity and the PHY entity. In some embodiments, a CU and a DU may be implemented in separate devices. In some embodiments, a CU and a DU may be implemented in the same device. In some embodiments, different DUs may be implemented in separate devices. In some embodiments, different CUs are implemented in separate devices.

[0049] In the context of the present disclosure, a CU (also referred to as a gNB-CU herein) is a logic node hosting RRC, SDAP and PDCP protocols of a gNB or RRC and PDCP protocols of an en-gNB that controls operation of one or more DUs (also referred to as gNB-DUs herein) . The gNB-CU terminates a F1 interface connected with the gNB-DU. A DU is a logical node hosting RLC, MAC and PHY layers of the gNB or en-gNB, and its operation is partly controlled by gNB-CU. One gNB-DU supports one or multiple cells. One cell is supported by only one gNB-DU. The gNB-DU terminates a F1 interface connected with the gNB-CU.

[0050] The communications in the communication network 100 may conform to any suitable standards including, but not limited to, global system for mobile communications (GSM) , long term evolution (LTE) , LTE-evolution, LTE-advanced (LTE-A) , new radio (NR) , wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) , code division multiple access (CDMA) , GSM EDGE radio access network (GERAN) , machine type communication (MTC) and the like. The embodiments of the present disclosure may be performed according to any generation communication protocols either currently known or to be developed in the future. Examples of the communication protocols include, but not limited to, the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , 2.5G, 2.75G, the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , 4.5G, the fifth generation (5G) communication  protocols, 5.5G, 5G-advanced networks, or the sixth generation (6G) networks.

[0051] Continuing to refer to FIG. 1, in some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may be located within the coverage of the cell 123-1, and the terminal device 110 may communicate with the DU 123 of the network device 120 based on a network configuration. In this case, the cell 123-1 may be referred to as a serving cell of the terminal device 110. Other cells such as the cells 122-1, 122-2 and 123-2 may be referred to as candidate cells of the terminal device 110.

[0052] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may establish a dual connection (i.e., simultaneous connection) with the network device 120 and the network device 130. In some embodiments, the network device 120 may serve as a master node (MN) . In these embodiments, the terminal device 110 may communicate with the network device 120 via a set of serving cells. The set of serving cells form an MCG, and a primary cell in the MCG is called as PCell. In some scenarios, the PCell may be changed from the cell 123-1 to the cell 131. This is called as a handover (HO) . In some embodiments, the network device 120 may serve as a secondary node (SN) . In these embodiments, the set of serving cells provided by the network device 120 form an SCG, and a primary cell in the SCG is called as PSCell. In some scenarios, the PSCell may be changed from the cell 123-1 to the cell 131. This is called as a PSCell change.

[0053] In some scenarios, the network device 120 may receive L1 measurement reports from the terminal device 110. Based on the L1 measurement reports, the network device 120 may change a serving cell of the terminal device 110 through a MAC CE. This procedure is called as LTM. The network device 120 may prepare one or multiple candidate cells and provides candidate cell configurations to the terminal device 110 through an RRC message. Then an LTM cell switch procedure is triggered by selecting one of the candidate cell configurations as a target configuration for LTM by the network device 120.

[0054] MRO aims at detecting and enabling correction of the following problems: connection failure due to intra-system or inter-system mobility; inter-system unnecessary HO, i.e., too early inter-system HO from NR to evolved universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS) terrestrial radio access network (E-UTRAN) with no radio link failure; inter-system HO ping-pong; or PSCell change failure. MRO provides means to distinguish the above problems from NR coverage related problems and other  problems unrelated to mobility. For detection of a sub-optimal successful mobility, MRO additionally enables observability of: successful HO due to intra-NR and inter-RAT mobility; or successful PSCell change. With introduction of LTM as a new mobility procedure, the MRO function for SON needs to be further enhanced as well for better performance of an LTM cell switch procedure.

[0055] Embodiments of the present disclosure provide solutions of communication for MRO for LTM. More details will be described with reference to FIGs. 2 and 3 below.

[0056] EXAMPLE IMPLEMENTATION OF INFORMATION COLLECTION

[0057] Currently, it is still unclear what information is collected for an LTM cell switch procedure for SON purpose. Thus, embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution of collecting and reporting information of an LTM cell switch procedure. The solution will be described in connection with FIG. 2 below.

[0058] FIG. 2 illustrates a signaling chart illustrating an example process 200 of communication for information collection according to embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the process 200 will be described with reference to FIG. 1. The process 200 may involve the terminal device 110 and the network device 120 as illustrated in FIG. 1. In this example, the network device 120 provides a serving cell for the terminal device 110 and also provides one or more candidate cells for the terminal device 110. The serving cell may be SpCell, PCell or PSCell of the terminal device 110. It is assumed that an LTM cell switch procedure from a source cell (e.g., the cell 122-1) to a target cell (e.g., the cell 123-1) is performed.

[0059] As shown in FIG. 2, the terminal device 110 may store 210 information of an LTM cell switch procedure from a source cell to a target cell. In other words, the terminal device 110 may set a value of an information field in UE variable based on the LTM cell switch procedure.

[0060] In some embodiments, the information of the LTM cell switch procedure may include L1 measurement results collected until a failure of the LTM cell switch procedure or successful completion of the LTM cell switch procedure, i.e., L1 measurement results collected up to the moment the terminal device 110 detected the failure of the LTM cell switch procedure or the successful completion of the LTM cell switch procedure.

[0061] In some embodiments, the L1 measurement results may include an L1 reference signal received power (L1-RSRP) value of a list of synchronization signal and physical  broadcast channel blocks (SSBs) for a list of neighboring cells including LTM candidate cells. The list of SSBs may include at least one SSB configured to be used for L1 measurements of the LTM candidate cell (i.e., ltm-SSB-Config) .

[0062] In some embodiments, the L1 measurement results may include an L1-RSRP value of a list of SSBs of an LTM source cell or target cell. The list of SSBs may include an SSB associated with a TCI state indicated in an LTM cell switch command, at least one SSB configured to be used for L1 measurements of the LTM target cell, and at least one SSB associated with the activated TCI state indicated by TCI states activation / deactivation MAC CE.

[0063] In some embodiments, the information of the LTM cell switch procedure may include received information in the LTM cell switch command triggering the LTM cell switch procedure, i.e., information indicated in the received LTM cell switch command. In some embodiments, the received information may include TCI state information including a TCI state index (ID) or uplink (UL) TCI state ID. In some embodiments, the received information may include a timing advance command value.

[0064] In some embodiments, the information of the LTM cell switch procedure may include a TA value measured by the terminal device 110, if the terminal device 110 is configured with TA measurement.

[0065] In some embodiments, the information of the LTM cell switch procedure may include a difference between a TA value received from the LTM cell switch command and the TA value measured by the terminal device 110.

[0066] In some embodiments, the information of the LTM cell switch procedure may include an indication of whether the LTM cell switch procedure skips an RA procedure, i.e., an indication of whether the LTM cell switch procedure is random access channel (RACH) -less. In some embodiments, the indication may be an explicit indication. In some embodiments, the indication may be an implicit indication. For example, if the LTM cell switch procedure is RA-based, the terminal device 110 may include RA information which provides information on random access attempts. Otherwise, the terminal device 110 does not include the RA information.

[0067] In some embodiments, the information of the LTM cell switch procedure may include an indication of whether a UL grant used for an initial UL / PUSCH transmission of the LTM cell switch procedure skipping the RA procedure is a configured grant (CG) or a  dynamic grant (DG) . In other words, the information of the LTM cell switch procedure may include an indication of whether CG or DG (e.g., UL grant addressed to cell-radio network temporary identity (C-RNTI) ) is used for initial UL / PUSCH transmission of the RACH-less LTM cell switch procedure.

[0068] In some embodiments, the information of the LTM cell switch procedure may include a configuration of the CG used during the LTM cell switch procedure skipping the RA procedure.

[0069] In some embodiments, the information of the LTM cell switch procedure may include a set of activated TCI states of the LTM target cell (e.g., upon reception of the LTM cell switch command) .

[0070] In some embodiments, the information of the LTM cell switch procedure may include time elapsed since initiation of the LTM cell switch procedure until the successful completion of the LTM cell switch procedure, e.g., elapsed T304 timer value when the LTM cell switch procedure is successfully completed.

[0071] In some embodiments, the information of the LTM cell switch procedure may include time elapsed since a last LTM cell switch procedure until a connection failure (timeConnFailure) .

[0072] In some embodiments, the information of the LTM cell switch procedure may include time elapsed since the failure of the LTM cell switch procedure, i.e., time elapsed since the LTM execution failure (TimeSinceFailure) .

[0073] In some embodiments, the information of the LTM cell switch procedure may include time elapsed since reception of a latest LTM configuration until the initiation of the LTM cell switch procedure, i.e., time between initiation of the LTM cell switch execution towards the target cell and the reception of the latest LTM configuration.

[0074] In some embodiments, the LTM cell switch procedure may be successfully completed or unsuccessfully completed.

[0075] It is to be understood that the information of the LTM cell switch procedure may include any combination of the above information and any other suitable information of the LTM cell switch procedure.

[0076] Continuing to refer to FIG. 2, in some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may receive 211, from the network device 120, a configuration for the storing of the information  of the LTM cell switch procedure (e.g., a successful completed LTM cell switch procedure) .

[0077] In some embodiments, the configuration may include a number threshold for number of RLC retransmissions. In some embodiments, the number threshold may be configured by the source cell.

[0078] In some embodiments, the configuration may include a measurement threshold for an L1 measurement of a serving cell. In some embodiments, the L1 measurement may include L1-RSRP of at least one SSB, for example, the L1 RSRP of the best SSB of the serving cell. In some embodiments, the measurement threshold may be configured by the source cell.

[0079] In some embodiments, the configuration may include a counter threshold for a counter (e.g., PREAMBLE_TRANSMISSION_COUNTER) for a preamble transmission of an RA procedure for the source cell or the target cell. In some embodiments, the counter threshold may be configured by the source cell. In some embodiments, the counter threshold may be configured by the target cell.

[0080] In some embodiments, the configuration may include a timer threshold for a timer (e.g., configuredGrantTimer) for a CG. In some embodiments, the timer threshold may be configured by the target cell.

[0081] In some embodiments, the configuration may include a first ratio threshold for a ratio between a value of elapsed time of a timer (e.g., timer T304) for a reconfiguration with sync procedure and a configured value of the timer for the reconfiguration with sync procedure.

[0082] In some embodiments, the configuration may include a second ratio threshold for a ratio between a value of elapsed time of a timer (e.g., timer T310) for a radio link failure (RLF) detection and a configured value of the timer for the RLF detection.

[0083] In some embodiments, the configuration may include a third ratio threshold for a ratio between a value of elapsed time of a timer (e.g., timer T312) for an RLF recovery and a configured value of the timer for the RLF recovery.

[0084] In some embodiments, the configuration may include an indication indicating the storing of the first information upon successful completion of the LTM cell switch procedure and expiry of the timer for the configured grant while executing the LTM cell switch procedure. In some embodiments, the indication may be configured by the target  cell.

[0085] It is to be understood that the configuration may include any combination of the above information and any other suitable information.

[0086] With reference to FIG. 2, in some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may determine 212 whether the information of the LTM cell switch procedure is to be stored. In some embodiments, if an RA procedure triggered for the LTM cell switch procedure is successfully completed, the terminal device 110 may determine whether the information is to be stored. In some embodiments, if an indication that the LTM cell switch procedure has been successfully completed is received from a lower layer, the terminal device 110 may determine whether the information is to be stored.

[0087] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may receive the configuration for the storing of the information of the LTM cell switch procedure from the network device 120, apply an RRCReconfiguration message including reconfigurationWithSync for MCG or SCG due to an LTM cell switch execution, and perform determination of whether to store the information of the LTM cell switch procedure upon successfully completing the RA procedure triggered for the reconfigurationWithSync, or upon an indication from lower layer (e.g., MAC layer) that the LTM cell switch execution has been successfully completed.

[0088] In some embodiments, if the number of RLC retransmissions fulfills a condition associated with the number threshold, the terminal device 110 may determine that the information is to be stored. For example, if the number of RLC retransmissions is above the number threshold, the terminal device 110 may determine that the information is to be stored.

[0089] In some embodiments, if the L1 measurement of the serving cell fulfills a condition associated with the measurement threshold, the terminal device 110 may determine that the information is to be stored. For example, if the L1 measurement of the serving cell is below the measurement threshold, the terminal device 110 may determine that the information is to be stored.

[0090] In some embodiments, if the counter for the preamble transmission of the RA procedure for the source cell or the target cell fulfills a condition associated with the counter threshold, the terminal device 110 may determine that the information is to be stored. For example, if the preamble transmission counter is above the counter threshold, the terminal device 110 may determine that the information is to be stored.

[0091] In some embodiments, if the timer for CG (e.g., configuredGrantTimer) fulfills a condition associated with the timer threshold, the terminal device 110 may determine that the information is to be stored. For example, if configuredGrantTimer is above the timer threshold, the terminal device 110 may determine that the information is to be stored. In another example, if a ratio between a value of configuredGrantTimer and a configured value of the configuredGrantTimer is above the timer threshold, the terminal device 110 may determine that the information is to be stored.

[0092] In some embodiments, if the timer for the CG expires, the terminal device 110 may determine that the information is to be stored.

[0093] In some embodiments, if the timer for the CG expires and the indication is received, the terminal device 110 may determine that the information is to be stored. The indication indicates that the terminal device 110 generates / stores the information of the LTM cell switch procedure upon successful completing the LTM cell switch procedure and if the timer for the CG expires while executing the LTM cell switch procedure.

[0094] In some embodiments, if the ratio between the value of elapsed time of the timer for the reconfiguration with sync procedure and the configured value of the timer for the reconfiguration with sync procedure is above the first ratio threshold, the terminal device 110 may determine that the information is to be stored. For example, if a ratio between the value of the elapsed time of the timer T304 and the configured value of the timer T304 is greater than thresholdPercentageT304, the terminal device 110 may determine that the information is to be stored.

[0095] In some embodiments, if the ratio between the value of elapsed time of the timer for an RLF detection and the configured value of the timer for the RLF detection is above the second ratio threshold, the terminal device 110 may determine that the information is to be stored. For example, if a ratio between the value of the elapsed time of the timer T310 and the configured value of the timer T310 is greater than thresholdPercentageT310, the terminal device 110 may determine that the information is to be stored.

[0096] In some embodiments, if the ratio between the value of elapsed time of the timer for the RLF recovery and the configured value of the timer for the RLF recovery is above the third ratio threshold, the terminal device 110 may determine that the information is to be stored. For example, if a ratio between the value of the elapsed time of the timer T312 and the configured value of the timer T312 is greater than thresholdPercentageT312, the  terminal device 110 may determine that the information is to be stored.

[0097] Upon determination that the information is to be stored, the terminal device 110 may store the information of the LTM cell switch procedure. In some embodiments, the information of the LTM cell switch procedure may be stored as an RLF report, SCGFailureInformation, successful handover report (SHR) , successful PSCell change / addition report (SPR) , or successful LTM report (SLR) .

[0098] Continuing to refer to FIG. 2, the terminal device 110 may report 220 the information of the LTM cell switch procedure to the network device 120. In some embodiments, the information of the LTM cell switch procedure may be reported as the RLF report, SCGFailureInformation, SHR, SPR, or SLR. It is to be understood that the information of the LTM cell switch procedure may be reported in any other suitable ways.

[0099] With reference to FIG. 2, in some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may transmit 221, to the network device 120, an indication of availability of the information of the LTM cell switch procedure. In some embodiments, the network device 120 may transmit 222, to the terminal device 110, a request for obtaining the information of the LTM cell switch procedure. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may transmit 223, to the network device 120, the information of the LTM cell switch procedure in a response to the request.

[0100] For example, the terminal device 110 may indicate the availability of the information of the LTM cell switch procedure to the network device 120, e.g., by including an availability indication in the RRCReconfigurationComplete, RRCSetupComplete, RRCResumeComplete, RRCRestablishmentComplete message, or UEAssistanceInformation message. The RRCReconfigurationComplete message may be transmitted by signaling radio bearing 1 (SRB1) or signaling radio bearing 3 (SRB3) .

[0101] The network device 120 may fetch the information of the LTM cell switch procedure by sending UEInformationRequest message with a request indication. The terminal device 110 may response the network device 120 with the information of the LTM cell switch procedure by sending UEInformationResponse message with the information.

[0102] Continuing to refer to FIG. 2, based on the information of the LTM cell switch procedure, the network device 120 may perform 230 MRO for LTM, e.g., for LTM configuration and performance.

[0103] As such, collection of information of an LTM cell switch procedure may be  achieved, and the network may use the collected information to optimize LTM configuration and performance.

[0104] EXAMPLE IMPLEMENTATION OF CONFIGURATION OF TRIGGERING CONDITION

[0105] In some scenarios where a network device has a CU-DU architecture, it is beneficial to report information of sub-optimal successful completed LTM cell switch, for DU to enhance a timing to trigger LTM cell switch. However, which node decides on a triggering condition of storing information of an LTM cell switch procedure, and how to configure the triggering condition are still unclear.

[0106] In view of this, embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution for configuring a triggering condition of storing information of an LTM cell switch procedure. The solution will be described below in connection with FIG. 3.

[0107] FIG. 3 illustrates a signaling chart illustrating an example process 300 of communication for configuration of a triggering condition of information collection according to embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the process 300 will be described with reference to FIG. 1. The process 300 may involve the terminal device 110 and the CU 121 and one of DUs (e.g., the DU 122) of the network device 120 as illustrated in FIG. 1. In this example, the network device 120 provides a serving cell for the terminal device 110 and also provides one or more candidate cells for the terminal device 110. The serving cell may be SpCell, PCell or PSCell of the terminal device 110. The DU 122 may be an LTM candidate DU or serving DU.

[0108] As shown in FIG. 3, the DU 122 may determine 310 a configuration for a storing of information of an LTM cell switch procedure (e.g., a successful completed LTM cell switch procedure) from a source cell to a target cell. The configuration may comprise at least one of the following: a number threshold for number of RLC retransmissions, a measurement threshold for an L1 measurement of a serving cell, a counter threshold for a counter for a preamble transmission of an RA procedure for the source cell or the target cell, a timer threshold for a timer for a configured grant, a first ratio threshold for a ratio between a value of elapsed time of a timer for a reconfiguration with sync procedure and a configured value of the timer for the reconfiguration with sync procedure, a second ratio threshold for a ratio between a value of elapsed time of a timer for an RLF detection and a configured value of the timer for the RLF detection, a third ratio threshold for a ratio between a value of elapsed time of a timer for an RLF recovery and a configured value of  the timer for the RLF recovery, or an indication indicating the storing of the first information upon successful completion of the LTM cell switch procedure and expiry of a timer for a CG while executing the LTM cell switch procedure. Other details of the configuration are the same as that described in step 211 in FIG. 2, and thus are omitted here for conciseness.

[0109] Continuing to refer to FIG. 3, the DU 122 may transmit 320 the configuration to the CU 121. In some embodiments, the DU 122 may transmit the configuration via an F1AP message such as UE CONTEXT SETUP RESPONSE message, or UE CONTEXT MODIFICATION RESPONSE message, or UE CONTEXT MODIFICATION REQUIRED message.

[0110] With reference to FIG. 3, the CU 121 may transmit 330 the configuration to the terminal device 110. In some embodiments, the CU 121 may transmit the configuration in an RRC reconfiguration message. For example, the CU 121 may transmit the configuration to the terminal device 110 in an information element (IE) otherConfig of the RRC reconfiguration message directly.

[0111] In some embodiments, the CU 121 may transmit the configuration to the terminal device 110 in a configuration for the target cell comprised in an LTM configuration for the LTM cell switch procedure. For example, the CU 121 may transmit the configuration to the terminal device 110 in an IE otherConfig of an RRC reconfiguration message of a LTM configuration for the target cell. It is to be understood that any other suitable ways may also be feasible.

[0112] Continuing to refer to FIG. 3, the terminal device 110 may store and report 340 the information of the LTM cell switch procedure to the CU 121 based on the configuration. In some embodiments, the information may comprise at least one of the following: L1 measurement results collected until a failure of the LTM cell switch procedure or successful completion of the LTM cell switch procedure; received information in an LTM cell switch command triggering the LTM cell switch procedure; a TA value measured by the terminal device; a difference between a TA value received from the LTM cell switch command and the TA value measured by the terminal device; an indication of whether the LTM cell switch procedure skips an RA procedure; an indication of whether an uplink grant used for an initial uplink transmission of the LTM cell switch procedure skipping the RA procedure is a configured grant or a dynamic grant; a configuration of the configured grant used  during the LTM cell switch procedure skipping the RA procedure; a set of activated TCI states of the target cell; time elapsed since initiation of the LTM cell switch procedure until the successful completion of the LTM cell switch procedure; time elapsed since a last LTM cell switch procedure until a connection failure; time elapsed since the failure of the LTM cell switch procedure; or time elapsed since reception of a latest LTM configuration until the initiation of the LTM cell switch procedure. Other details of the storing and reporting of the information of the LTM cell switch procedure are the same as that described in steps 210 and 220 of FIG. 2, and thus are omitted here for conciseness.

[0113] With reference to FIG. 3, the CU 121 may transmit 350 the information of the LTM cell switch procedure to the DU 122. In some embodiments, the CU 121 may transmit the configuration using an access and mobility indication message. It is to be understood that any other suitable messages may also be feasible.

[0114] Continuing to refer to FIG. 3, based on the information of the LTM cell switch procedure, the DU 122 may perform 360 MRO for LTM, e.g., for LTM configuration and performance.

[0115] As such, a configuration of triggering condition for information collection may be achieved. With a lower layer parameter based triggering condition, information of a sub-optimal LTM cell switch may be collected and reported to a DU for further enhancement of LTM performance.

[0116] It is to be understood that operations of the processes 200 and / or 300 may be carried out separately or in any suitable combination.

[0117] EXAMPLE IMPLEMENTATION OF METHODS

[0118] Accordingly, embodiments of the present disclosure provide methods of communication implemented at a terminal device and at a DU and a CU of a network device. These methods will be described below with reference to FIGs. 4 to 6.

[0119] FIG. 4 illustrates a flowchart of an example method 400 of communication implemented at a terminal device in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For example, the method 400 may be performed at the terminal device 110 as shown in FIG. 1. For the purpose of discussion, in the following, the method 400 will be described with reference to FIG. 1. It is to be understood that the method 400 may include additional blocks not shown and / or may omit some blocks as shown, and the scope of the present disclosure is not limited in this regard.

[0120] At block 410, the terminal device 110 stores information of an LTM cell switch procedure from a source cell to a target cell.

[0121] In some embodiments, the information may comprise at least one of the following: L1 measurement results collected until a failure of the LTM cell switch procedure or successful completion of the LTM cell switch procedure; received information in an LTM cell switch command triggering the LTM cell switch procedure; a TA value measured by the terminal device; a difference between a TA value received from the LTM cell switch command and the TA value measured by the terminal device; an indication of whether the LTM cell switch procedure skips an RA procedure; an indication of whether an uplink grant used for an initial uplink transmission of the LTM cell switch procedure skipping the RA procedure is a configured grant or a dynamic grant; a configuration of the configured grant used during the LTM cell switch procedure skipping the RA procedure; a set of activated TCI states of the target cell; time elapsed since initiation of the LTM cell switch procedure until the successful completion of the LTM cell switch procedure; time elapsed since a last LTM cell switch procedure until a connection failure; time elapsed since the failure of the LTM cell switch procedure; or time elapsed since reception of a latest LTM configuration until the initiation of the LTM cell switch procedure.

[0122] In some embodiments, if an RA procedure triggered for the LTM cell switch procedure is successfully completed, the terminal device 110 may determine whether the information is to be stored. In some embodiments, if an indication that the LTM cell switch procedure has been successfully completed is received from a lower layer, the terminal device 110 may determine whether the information is to be stored.

[0123] In some embodiments, if a determination that number of RLC retransmissions fulfills a condition associated with a number threshold, the terminal device 110 may determine that the information is to be stored. In some embodiments, if the number of RLC retransmissions is above the number threshold, the terminal device 110 may determine that number of RLC retransmissions fulfills the condition associated with the number threshold.

[0124] In some embodiments, if an L1 measurement of a serving cell fulfills a condition associated with a measurement threshold, the terminal device 110 may determine that the information is to be stored. In some embodiments, if the L1 measurement of the serving cell is below the measurement threshold, the terminal device 110 may determine that the L1  measurement of the serving cell fulfills the condition associated with the measurement threshold.

[0125] In some embodiments, if a counter for a preamble transmission of an RA procedure for the source cell or the target cell fulfills a condition associated with a counter threshold, the terminal device 110 may determine that the information is to be stored. In some embodiments, if the counter for the preamble transmission of the RA procedure for the source cell or the target cell is above the counter threshold, the terminal device 110 may determine that the counter for the preamble transmission of the RA procedure for the source cell or the target cell fulfills the condition associated with the counter threshold.

[0126] In some embodiments, if a timer for a CG fulfills a condition associated with a timer threshold, the terminal device 110 may determine that the information is to be stored. In some embodiments, if the timer for the CG is above the timer threshold, the terminal device 110 may determine that the timer for the CG fulfills the condition associated with the timer threshold. In some embodiments, if a ratio between a value of the timer for the CG and a configured value of the timer for the CG is above the timer threshold, the terminal device 110 may determine that the timer for the CG fulfills the condition associated with the timer threshold.

[0127] In some embodiments, if the timer for the CG expires, the terminal device 110 may determine that the information is to be stored. In some embodiments, if the timer for the CG expires and an indication indicating the storing of the first information upon successful completion of the LTM cell switch procedure and expiry of the timer for the configured grant while executing the LTM cell switch procedure is received, the terminal device 110 may determine that the information is to be stored.

[0128] In some embodiments, if a ratio between a value of elapsed time of a timer for a reconfiguration with sync procedure and a configured value of the timer for the reconfiguration with sync procedure is above a first ratio threshold, the terminal device 110 may determine that the information is to be stored. In some embodiments, if a ratio between a value of elapsed time of a timer for an RLF detection and a configured value of the timer for the RLF detection is above a second ratio threshold, the terminal device 110 may determine that the information is to be stored. In some embodiments, if a ratio between a value of elapsed time of a timer for an RLF recovery and a configured value of the timer for the RLF recovery is above a third ratio threshold, the terminal device 110 may  determine that the information is to be stored.

[0129] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may receive, from the network device 120, a configuration for the storing of the information. The configuration may comprise at least one of the following: the number threshold; the measurement threshold; the counter threshold; the timer threshold; the first ratio threshold; the second ratio threshold; the third ratio threshold; or the indication indicating the storing of the first information upon the successful completion of the LTM cell switch procedure and expiry of the timer for the configured grant while executing the LTM cell switch procedure.

[0130] At block 420, the terminal device 110 reports the information to the network device 120.

[0131] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may transmit, to the network device 120, an indication of availability of the information. The terminal device 110 may receive, from the network device 120, a request for obtaining the information. The terminal device 110 may transmit the information in a response to the request.

[0132] With the method 400, collection of information of an LTM cell switch procedure may be achieved, and the network may use the collected information to optimize LTM configuration and performance.

[0133] FIG. 5 illustrates a flowchart of an example method 500 of communication implemented at a DU of a network device in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For example, the method 500 may be performed at the DU 122 as shown in FIG. 1. For the purpose of discussion, in the following, the method 500 will be described with reference to FIG. 1. It is to be understood that the method 500 may include additional blocks not shown and / or may omit some blocks as shown, and the scope of the present disclosure is not limited in this regard.

[0134] At block 510, the DU 122 determines a configuration for a storing of information of an LTM cell switch procedure from a source cell to a target cell.
