[0019] (Configuration of the Summary Generation Support System) The configuration of the summary generation support system 10 will be described with reference to FIG. 3. FIG. 3 is a block diagram showing the configuration of the summary generation support system 10. As shown in FIG. 3, the summary generation support system 10 includes a summary generation support device 1A and a user terminal 2. The summary generation support device 1A and the user terminal 2 are communicatively connected via a network NW. The network NW may be configured to include, for example, a wireless or wired LAN (Local Area Network) installed in a medical organization (e.g., a hospital). Furthermore, external connections to the network NW may be disabled. Furthermore, external connections to the network NW may require authentication. Furthermore, communications on the network NW may be encrypted. However, the network NW is not limited to the above-described example.

[0020] The summary generation support device 1A is a device that supports the generation of summaries about patients. The user terminal 2 is a terminal used by a user who uses the summary generation support device 1A to generate summaries about patients. The user of the user terminal 2 may be, for example, a doctor, a nurse, or other staff member in a medical organization. While one user terminal 2 is shown in FIG. 3, the summary generation support system 10 may include multiple user terminals 2.

[0021] The configuration of the summary document generation support device 1A will be described with reference to Fig. 3. As shown in Fig. 3, the summary document generation support device 1A includes a control unit 110, a storage unit 120, and a communication unit 130. The control unit 110 controls all the units of the summary document generation support device 1A. The storage unit 120 stores various data used by the control unit 110. The communication unit 130 communicates with the user terminal 2 via the network NW under the control of the control unit 110.

[0022] The control unit 110 includes an acquisition unit 11, a generation unit 12, and a display control unit 13. Each of these functional blocks is configured in substantially the same manner as in the summary document generation support device 1, but differences will be described in detail below. The storage unit 120 stores one or more medical documents, one or more summary documents, and a language model.

[0023] The medical document indicates medical information about a patient. The medical document is generated based on a user's operation by a medical document generation function provided by the control unit 110. Examples of the medical document include examination information about the patient's medical examination, nursing information about the patient's care, examination information about the patient's examination, prescription drug information about the patient's prescribed medication, and basic patient information indicating basic information about the patient. However, the types of medical documents are not limited to these.

[0024] A medical document is associated with a patient ID, a user ID, and time information. The patient ID is information that identifies a patient. The user ID is information that identifies a user who created the medical document. The time information indicates the time when the medical document was created or updated.

[0025] The summary document indicates a summary of medical information related to a patient. The summary document is generated based on user operation by a summary document generation function provided by the control unit 110. Examples of summary documents include an interim summary, a discharge summary, or a referral letter. An interim summary indicates a summary that is referenced to generate other types of summary documents. However, the types of summary documents are not limited to these. The summary document is associated with a patient ID, a user ID, and time information. The patient ID is information that identifies the patient. The user ID is information that identifies the user who generated the summary document. The time information indicates the time when the summary document was generated or updated.

[0026] A language model is a model that takes one or more medical documents as input and outputs a sentence summarizing the one or more medical documents. The language model is, for example, a model generated by machine learning. As an example, the language model may be configured using a large-scale language model. The large-scale language model may be a general-purpose large-scale language model or a large-scale language model fine-tuned for the medical field. For example, by inputting a prompt to the large-scale language model instructing it to generate a summary from one or more medical documents, a sentence indicating the summary can be obtained as output. An example of a prompt includes, for example, a prompt including one or more example medical documents, example summaries corresponding to the example medical documents, and one or more documents from which a summary is desired. However, the prompt is not limited to these examples.

[0027] The control unit 110 provides the user terminal 2 with a medical document generation function that generates medical documents related to patients based on user operations. The medical document generation function may be provided for each type of medical document. Specifically, as the medical document generation function, the control unit 110 causes the display control unit 13 to display on the user terminal 2 a medical document generation screen that accepts input and editing of text to be included in the medical document. Furthermore, the control unit 110 stores newly generated or updated medical documents in the storage unit 120 based on user operations on the medical document generation screen.

[0028] The control unit 110 also provides the user terminal 2 with a summary document generation function that generates a summary document related to a patient based on user operations. The summary document generation function may be provided for each type of summary document. Specifically, as the summary document generation function, the control unit 110 causes the display control unit 13 to display on the user terminal 2 a summary document generation screen that accepts input and editing of text to be included in the summary document. The summary document generation screen includes an editing area for inputting or editing the summary document. The control unit 110 also stores the newly generated or updated summary document in the storage unit 120 based on user operations on the summary document generation screen.

[0029] The acquisition unit 11 is configured similarly to the summary document generation support device 1, and is also configured as follows. The acquisition unit 11 acquires, as one or more medical documents, one or more medical documents that meet predetermined conditions. For example, the predetermined conditions may include a condition that the medical document is of a predetermined type. Furthermore, the predetermined conditions may include a condition that the medical document is associated with a predetermined user ID. Furthermore, the predetermined conditions may include a condition that the medical document is associated with time information included in a predetermined period. The predetermined period may be, for example, a period of a predetermined length in the most recent period (the most recent month, the most recent year, etc.). However, the predetermined conditions are not limited to these.

[0030] The display control unit 13 has the same configuration as the summary document generation support device 1, but is also configured as follows. In response to the generation or update of at least one medical document among one or more medical documents, the display control unit 13 displays the text generated by the generation unit 12 and the text generated by the user in a manner that allows them to be distinguished from each other. The display control unit 13 also displays an editing area that includes the text generated by the generation unit 12 in an editable manner, and displays the text generated by the generation unit 12 and the edited parts of the text by the user in a manner that allows them to be distinguished from each other. The display control unit 13 also displays an editing area that includes the text generated by the generation unit 12 and an unupdated summary document generated by the user regarding the patient in an editable manner, and displays the text generated by the generation unit 12 and the unupdated summary document in a manner that allows them to be distinguished from each other. Hereinafter, the text generated by the generation unit 12 will also be referred to as "automatically generated text." In other words, the editing area on the summary document generation screen includes the automatically generated text and the unupdated summary document. The user can update the summary document by editing the automatically generated text and the summary document before updating.

[0031] Here, specific examples of mutually distinguishable aspects will be described. Examples of mutually distinguishable aspects may be, for example, different background colors. For example, in the editing area, the background color of the automatically generated text may be gray, and the background color of the summary document before updating may be white. Furthermore, the background color of the user-edited portion of the automatically generated text with a gray background may be white. Furthermore, examples of mutually distinguishable aspects may be, instead of or in addition to the background color, differences in some or all of the text color, background color, text size, text underlining, bolding, italics, text animation, and other text decorations. Furthermore, examples of mutually distinguishable aspects may be, for example, differences in the windows on the screen containing the text. However, specific examples of mutually distinguishable aspects are not limited to the above examples.

[0032] For example, when an operation to terminate the medical document generation function is received on the medical document generation screen, the display control unit 13 may transition the display on the display unit 250 from the medical document generation screen to a summary document generation screen. For example, when an operation to terminate the medical document generation function is received on the medical document generation screen, a medical document is generated or updated. The acquisition unit 11 then acquires one or more medical documents including the generated or updated medical document, and the generation unit 12 generates automatically generated text summarizing the one or more medical documents. As a result, the automatically generated text displayed in the editing area of the summary document generation screen after the transition is expected to reflect the content of the medical document generated or updated on the medical document generation screen before the transition. The transition from the medical document generation screen to the summary document generation screen is not limited to an operation to terminate the medical document generation function, but may also be an operation to save the medical document, an operation to instruct a transition to the summary document generation screen, or the like.

[0033] The configuration of the user terminal 2 will be described with reference to FIG. 3 . As shown in FIG. 3 , the user terminal 2 includes a control unit 210, a storage unit 220, a communication unit 230, an input unit 240, and a display unit 250. The control unit 210 controls the various units of the user terminal 2. The storage unit 220 stores various data used by the control unit 210. The communication unit 230 communicates with the summary document generation support device 1A via the network NW under the control of the control unit 210. The input unit 240 accepts operations by a user using the user terminal 2. The input unit 240 may be configured, for example, by a mouse, a keyboard, a touchpad, a microphone, or a combination of some or all of these. The display unit 250 is an example of a display device. The display unit 250 displays images under the control of the control unit 210. The display unit 250 may be configured, for example, by a liquid crystal display or an organic electroluminescence (EL) display. The input unit 240 and the display unit 250 may be an integrated touch panel. One or both of the input unit 240 and the display unit 250 are not limited to being built into the user terminal 2, and may be connected to the user terminal 2 as a peripheral device.

[0034] (Flow of summary generation support method S1A) The summary generation support system 10 configured as described above executes the summary generation support method S1A. The flow of the summary generation support method S1A will be described with reference to FIG. 4. FIG. 4 is a flowchart showing the flow of the summary generation support method S1A. The summary generation support method S1A is a method for supporting the generation of a summary by transitioning from a medical document generation screen to a summary generation screen. As shown in FIG. 4, the summary generation support method S1A includes steps S101 to S115.

[0035] In step S101, the control unit 210 of the user terminal 2 receives an operation to invoke a medical document generation function from the input unit 240. For example, assume that the menu screen displayed on the display unit 250 includes UI objects for invoking the medical document generation function for each type of medical document. The user may invoke a desired type of medical document generation function by operating the UI object corresponding to the desired type of medical document on the menu screen. Upon receiving this operation, the control unit 210 transmits request information requesting a medical document generation screen corresponding to the desired type to the summary document generation support device 1A. The request information may include, for example, the target patient ID, the user ID for generating the medical document, and the type of medical document. The patient ID and user ID may be information specified by the user's operation. Hereinafter, the patient ID and user ID transmitted in this step will be referred to as the target patient ID and target user ID.

[0036] In step S102, the display control unit 13 of the summary document generation support device 1A generates a medical document generation screen of the requested type and transmits it to the user terminal 2. For example, the display control unit 13 may include a patient name corresponding to the target patient ID on the medical document generation screen. The display control unit 13 may also include a user name corresponding to the target user ID on the medical document generation screen. The display control unit 13 may also include time information indicating the current time on the medical document generation screen. The display control unit 13 may also include various information and various UI objects for generating a medical document of the type included in the request information on the medical document generation screen.

[0037] In step S103, the control unit 210 of the user terminal 2 displays the medical document generation screen received from the summary document generation support device 1A on the display unit 250. An example of the medical document generation screen displayed in step S103 will be described with reference to FIG. 5 . FIG. 5 is a diagram showing a specific example of a medical examination information input screen, which is an example of a medical document generation screen. As shown in FIG. 5 , screen example G1, which is a specific example of the medical examination information input screen, may be displayed on the display unit 250, for example, when a doctor who is the user of the user terminal 2 examines a patient. The screen example G1 includes a patient name G11, a person who writes the entry G12, and an entry date and time G13. The patient name G11, the person who writes the entry G12, and the entry date and time G13 may be editable. The screen example G1 also includes an input area G14 in which the user can input a doctor's progress note. In this example, the input area G14 is configured with text fields in which the user can enter record items S (subjective), O (objective), A (assessment), and P (plan) based on the SOAP method. Furthermore, the example screen G1 includes a UI object G15 that accepts an operation to "end examination." The UI object G15 is operated by the user (doctor) when the doctor ends the patient's examination. The operation on the UI object G15 ends the generation of examination information. In other words, the UI object G15 is a UI object that accepts an example of an operation to end the medical document generation function.

[0038] In step S104, the control unit 210 accepts an operation to edit the medical document on the medical document generation screen from the input unit 240. For example, in the example of Fig. 5, the control unit 210 accepts input to the input field G14 of the example screen G1. The control unit 210 also displays the input information in the input field G14.

[0039] In step S105, the control unit 210 accepts an operation to terminate the medical document generation function. For example, in the example of FIG. 5, the control unit 210 accepts an operation on the UI object G15 of the example screen G1. Furthermore, upon accepting this operation, the control unit 210 transmits request information requesting the generation or update of a medical document to the summary document generation support device 1A. The request information includes input information entered by the user on the medical document generation screen. For example, in the example of FIG. 5, the request information may include the patient name G11, the name of the person who wrote the entry G12, the entry date and time G13, and the input content of the input field G14. Furthermore, the control unit 210 terminates the display of the medical document generation screen.

[0040] In step S106, the control unit 110 of the summary document generation support device 1A generates or updates a medical document based on the information received from the user terminal 2. For example, in the example of Fig. 5, the control unit 110 may associate the target patient ID, target user ID, and entry date and time G13 with the medical document including the patient name G11, the name of the person writing G12, and the input content of the input field G14, and store the medical document in the storage unit 120.

[0041] In step S107, the acquisition unit 11 acquires from the storage unit 120 one or more medical documents that match a predetermined condition from among the medical documents associated with the target patient ID.

[0042] In step S108, the generation unit 12 generates an automatically generated sentence that summarizes one or more medical documents acquired in step S107, using the language model.

[0043] In step S109, the display control unit 13 generates a summary document generation screen including the automatically generated text and the pre-update summary document in a manner that allows them to be distinguished from each other, and transmits the generated summary document generation screen to the user terminal 2. The display control unit 13 may also include a patient name corresponding to the target patient ID and a user name corresponding to the target user ID in the generated summary document generation screen.

[0044] Here, the pre-update summary document refers to a summary document that is already stored in the storage unit 120 in association with the target patient ID. For example, a summary document may already be stored in the storage unit 120 as a result of the execution of the summary document generation support method S1A during the patient's previous medical examination. In this case, the summary document previously stored in the summary document generation support method S1A executed during the patient's current medical examination is the "pre-update summary document." Note that the "pre-update summary document" does not necessarily have to be stored in the storage unit 120. In this case, the "pre-update summary document" may be treated as being empty.

[0045] In step S110, the control unit 210 of the user terminal 2 displays the received summary document generation screen on the display unit 250. An example of the summary document generation screen displayed in step S110 will be described with reference to Fig. 6. Fig. 6 is a diagram showing a specific example of an intermediate summary editing screen, which is an example of a summary document generation screen.

[0046] As shown in FIG. 6 , screen example G2, which is a specific example of the interim summary editing screen, is displayed on the display unit 250 when, for example, a doctor, who is a user, operates the UI object G15 of screen example G1 at the end of a consultation. Screen example G2 includes a patient name G21, a name of the person who wrote the entry G22, and an entry date and time G23. The patient name G21, the name of the person who wrote the entry G22, and the entry date and time G23 may be editable. Screen example G2 also includes an editing area G24 that can be edited by the user. The editing area includes an automatically generated text G25 and an interim summary G26 before updating. In this example, the automatically generated text G25 is shaded and displayed in a manner that makes it distinguishable from the interim summary G26 before updating. In the editing area G24, the automatically generated text G25 and the interim summary G26 before updating can be edited. Screen example G2 also includes a UI object G27 that accepts a “save” operation. The UI object G27 is operated by the doctor who is the user to save the intermediate summary.

[0047] In step S111, the control unit 210 accepts an operation to edit the summary document on the summary document generation screen from the input unit 240. For example, in the example of Fig. 6, the control unit 210 may accept an editing operation on the automatically generated text G25, or an editing operation on the pre-update interim summary G26. An editing operation is an operation for adding, deleting, or changing characters. The control unit 210 also transmits information indicating the editing operation to the summary document generation support device 1A.

[0048] In step S112, the display control unit 13 of the summary document generation support device 1A controls the display of the edited portion in the automatically generated sentence in a manner that makes it distinguishable from the automatically generated sentence, based on the information indicating the editing operation received from the user terminal 2. Specifically, for example, the display control unit 13 transmits display control information that controls the manner of the edited portion to the user terminal 2.

[0049] In step S113, the control unit 210 of the user terminal 2 displays the edited portion of the automatically-generated text in a display manner that distinguishes it from the automatically-generated text based on the display control information received from the summary text generation assistance device 1A. An example of the summary text generation screen during editing, displayed in step S113, will be described with reference to FIG. 7 . FIG. 7 is a diagram showing a specific example of an intermediate summary editing screen, which is an example of a summary text generation screen during editing. As shown in FIG. 7 , screen example G2a, which is a specific example of the intermediate summary editing screen during editing, includes an edited portion G28 in addition to the same configuration as screen example G2. The edited portion G28 is a portion where the user added the text "one week later" to the automatically-generated text G25. The edited portion G28 is displayed against a white background, in bold, and underlined, so that it is distinguishable from the shaded automatically-generated text G25. Editing of the automatically-generated text is not limited to adding text, but may also include deleting or changing text.

[0050] Here, the process of step S112 for controlling the display mode of the edited portion may be executed by the user terminal 2 instead of by the summary document generation support device 1A. In other words, the summary document generation screen transmitted from the summary document generation support device 1A to the user terminal 2 may include a function for causing the user terminal 2 to execute a process for controlling the display mode of the edited portion in the automatically generated text.

[0051] In step S114, the control unit 210 accepts an operation to terminate the summary document generation function. For example, in the examples of FIGS. 6 and 7, the control unit 210 accepts an operation on the UI object G27. Furthermore, upon accepting this operation, the control unit 210 transmits request information requesting the generation or update of a summary document to the summary document generation support device 1A. The request information includes information indicating the edits made by the user on the summary document generation screen. For example, in the examples of FIGS. 6 and 7, the request information includes the patient name G21, the name of the person who made the entry G22, the entry date and time G23, and the edited content in the editing area G24. Furthermore, the control unit 210 terminates the display of the summary document generation screen.

[0052] In step S115, the control unit 110 of the summary document generation support device 1A generates or updates a summary document based on the information received from the user terminal 2. For example, in the examples of Figures 6 and 7, the control unit 110 may associate the target patient ID, target user ID, and entry date and time G23 with the summary document including the patient name G21, the name of the person who wrote it G22, and the edited content of the editing area G24, and store the associated summary document in the storage unit 120. This completes the summary document generation support method S1A.

[0053] The summary document generated or updated in step S115 may be displayed in the editing area of the summary document display screen as the "pre-update summary document" the next time the summary document generation support method S1A or the summary document generation support method S1B described below is executed for the patient.

[0054] (Variation 1) The second exemplary embodiment can be modified as follows. In the above-described second exemplary embodiment, an example has been described in which a medical document generation screen is transitioned to and a summary document generation screen is displayed. However, the summary document generation screen does not necessarily have to be transitioned from the medical document generation screen, and may be displayed independently. In other words, the summary document generation function may be callable independently of the medical document generation function.

[0055] In the second exemplary embodiment described above, the summary document generation function includes a function for automatically generating a summary. However, the function for automatically generating a summary may be invoked independently of the summary document generation function. Hereinafter, the function for automatically generating a summary will also be referred to as an automatic summary function.

[0056] For example, the control unit 110 provides the user terminal 2 with an automatic summarization function that generates automatically generated text summarizing one or more documents related to a patient based on a user instruction. Specifically, as the automatic summarization function, the control unit 110 causes the display control unit 13 to display on the user terminal 2 an automatic summary screen that accepts operations such as specifying conditions for one or more medical documents from which a summary is desired and instructing the generation of automatically generated text. Furthermore, the control unit 110 causes the acquisition unit 11 and the generation unit 12 to function to generate automatically generated text based on the user's operation on the automatic summary screen.

[0057] In the second exemplary embodiment described above, the display control unit 13 includes the automatically generated text in the editing area on the summary document generation screen. However, the display control unit 13 may display the display area for displaying the automatically generated text and the editing area for editing the summary document in a manner that allows them to be distinguished from each other. The distinguishable manner may be a manner in which they are included in different windows on the screen. For example, the display area for the automatically generated text is included in an automatic summary screen generated by the automatic summarization function. Furthermore, the editing area for editing the summary document is included in a summary document generation screen generated by the summary document generation function. By displaying the automatic summary screen and the summary document generation screen as different windows, the display area and the editing area are displayed in a manner that allows them to be distinguished from each other. Furthermore, part or all of the automatically generated text displayed in the display area of the automatically generated text may be imported into the editing area of the summary document generation screen by a user operation.

[0058] In the second exemplary embodiment described above, the acquisition unit 11 acquires one or more medical documents that meet predetermined conditions from the storage unit 120. However, the one or more medical documents that the acquisition unit 11 acquires are not limited to the predetermined conditions, and may also be one or more medical documents that meet conditions specified by a user.

[0059] The flow of the summary document generation support method S1B according to this modified example will be described with reference to Fig. 8. Fig. 8 is a flow diagram showing the flow of the summary document generation support method S1B. The summary document generation support method S1B is a method for supporting the generation of a summary document by independently calling an automatic summarization function and a summary document generation function. As shown in Fig. 8, the summary document generation support method S1B includes steps S201 to S215.

[0060] In step S201, the control unit 210 of the user terminal 2 receives an operation to activate the automatic summary function from the input unit 240. For example, a menu screen displayed on the display unit 250 may include a UI object that invokes the automatic summary function. The user may perform an operation on the UI object on the menu screen. Upon receiving the operation, the control unit 210 transmits request information requesting an automatic summary screen to the summary document generation support device 1A. The request information may include, for example, the target patient ID. Note that the patient ID may be information specified by a user operation. Hereinafter, the patient ID transmitted in this step will be referred to as the target patient ID.

[0061] In step S202, the display control unit 13 of the summary document generation support device 1A generates an automatic summary screen and transmits it to the user terminal 2. For example, the display control unit 13 may include a patient name corresponding to the target patient ID on the automatic summary screen.

[0062] In step S203, the control unit 210 of the user terminal 2 displays the automatic summary screen received from the summary document generation support device 1A on the display unit 250. An example of the automatic summary screen displayed in step S203 will be described with reference to Fig. 9. Fig. 9 shows a specific example of the automatic summary screen and a specific example of the summary document generation screen.

[0063] As shown in FIG. 9 , screen example G3, which is a specific example of an automatic summary screen, includes a patient name G31, a condition specification area G32 for specifying the conditions of the medical document to be summarized, a UI object G35 for receiving an operation to instruct "automatic summary," and an automatically generated area G36 for displaying automatically generated text. The condition specification area G32 includes UI objects G33 and G34. The UI object G33 receives an operation to specify a period including time information associated with the medical document. In this example, the start date of the period, "August 1, 2023," and the end date of the period, "November 12, 2023," are specified. The UI object G32 receives an operation to specify the type of medical document. In this example, basic patient information, examination information, and nursing information are specified, but test information and prescription drug information are not specified. In response to an operation on the UI object G35, automatically generated text is displayed in the automatically generated area G36. Note that in screen example G3, the automatically generated text displayed in the automatically generated area G36 is not editable but can be inserted into screen example G4, described below.

[0064] In step S204, the control unit 210 accepts an operation on the automatic summary screen from the input unit 240 specifying conditions for the medical document to be summarized. The control unit 210 also transmits information indicating the specified conditions to the summary document generation support device 1A. In the example of Fig. 9, the control unit 210 accepts operations on UI objects G33 and G34 on screen example G3. Furthermore, upon accepting an operation on UI object G35, the control unit 210 transmits information indicating the conditions specified by the operations on UI objects G33 and G34 to the summary document generation support device 1A.

[0065] In step S205, the acquisition unit 11 of the summary document generation support device 1A acquires from the memory unit 120 one or more medical documents associated with the target patient ID that match the conditions indicated by the information received from the user terminal 2.

[0066] In step S206, the generation unit 12 generates a sentence summarizing one or more medical documents acquired in step S205, using the language model.

[0067] In step S207, the display control unit 13 transmits the automatically generated sentence to the user terminal 2.

[0068] In step S208, the control unit 210 of the user terminal 2 displays the received automatically generated sentence on the summary document generation screen. For example, in the example of Fig. 9, the automatically generated sentence is displayed in the automatically generated area G36 of the example screen G3.

[0069] In step S209, the control unit 210 receives an operation to invoke the summary document generation function from the input unit 240. For example, assume that the menu screen displayed on the display unit 250 includes UI objects for invoking the summary document generation function for each type of summary document. The user may invoke the desired type of summary document generation function by operating the UI object corresponding to the desired type of summary document on the menu screen. Upon receiving this operation, the control unit 210 transmits request information to the summary document generation assistance device 1A, requesting a summary document generation screen corresponding to the desired type. The request information may include, for example, the target patient ID, the user ID of the person editing the summary document, and the type of summary document. The target patient ID may be the same as that used in the automatic summary function, or may be specified by the user. The user ID may also be information specified by the user. Hereinafter, the user ID transmitted in this step will also be referred to as the target user ID.

[0070] In step S210, the display control unit 13 of the summary document generation support device 1A generates a summary document generation screen of the requested type and transmits it to the user terminal 2. For example, the display control unit 13 may include a patient name corresponding to the target patient ID on the summary document generation screen. The display control unit 13 may also include a user name corresponding to the target user ID on the summary document generation screen. The display control unit 13 may also include various information and various UI objects for generating a summary document of the type included in the request information on the summary document generation screen.

[0071] In step S211, the control unit 210 of the user terminal 2 displays the summary document generation screen received from the summary document generation support device 1A on the display unit 250. A specific example of the summary document generation screen displayed in step S211 will be described with reference to FIG. 9 . In FIG. 9 , screen example G4 is a specific example of a discharge summary editing screen, which is an example of a summary document generation screen. For example, screen example G4 is displayed on the display unit 250 as a window separate from the window of screen example G3. Screen example G3 and screen example G4 may be displayed simultaneously in different areas of the display unit 250, either partially or entirely, or may be displayed switchably on the display unit 250. In this way, the automatically generated text generated by the generation unit 12 is displayed on screen example G3 in a manner that is distinguishable from screen example G4, which is used by the user to edit the summary document.

[0072] The example screen G4 includes a patient name G41, a name of the person who wrote the entry G42, and an entry date and time G43. The patient name G41, the name of the person who wrote the entry G42, and the entry date and time G43 may be editable. The example screen G4 also includes an editing area G44. The editing area G44 is an area for editing the summary document. The editing area G44 accepts text input by the user. The editing area G44 may also include the summary document before updating. The example screen G4 also includes a UI object G45. The UI object G45 accepts an operation to import automatically generated text into the editing area G44. The example screen G4 also includes a UI object G46. The UI object G46 accepts an operation to save the summary document including the content of the editing area G44.

[0073] In step S212, the control unit 210 accepts an operation to import the automatically generated text displayed on the automatic summary screen into the editing area of the summary document generation screen. In the example of screen G4, when an operation on UI object G45 is accepted, the automatically generated text displayed in the automatically generated area G36 of screen G3 is imported into the editing area G44 of screen G4.

[0074] The automatically generated sentence imported into the editing area G44 may be displayed in a manner that allows it to be distinguished from the sentence that was included in the editing area G44 before it was imported. In this case, the edited portion of the imported automatically generated sentence may be displayed in a manner that allows it to be distinguished from the imported automatically generated sentence.

[0075] In step S213, the control unit 210 accepts an operation to edit the summary document on the summary document generation screen from the input unit 240. In the example of Fig. 9, the control unit 210 accepts editing operations such as addition, deletion, and change while using the automatically generated text imported into the editing area G44 of the example screen G4.

[0076] In step S214, the control unit 210 accepts an operation to terminate the summary document generation function. For example, in the example of FIG. 9, the control unit 210 accepts an operation on the UI object G46 of the example screen G4. Furthermore, upon accepting this operation, the control unit 210 transmits request information requesting the generation or update of a summary document to the summary document generation support device 1A. The request information includes information indicating the edits made by the user on the summary document generation screen. For example, in the example of FIG. 9, the request information includes the patient name G41, the name of the person who wrote the entry G42, the entry date and time G43, and the edits in the editing field G44. Furthermore, the control unit 210 terminates the display of the summary document generation screen.

[0077] In step S215, the control unit 110 of the summary document generation support device 1A generates or updates a summary document based on the information received from the user terminal 2. For example, in the example of Fig. 9, the control unit 110 may associate the target patient ID, target user ID, and entry date and time G43 with the summary document including the patient name G41, the name of the person who wrote it G42, and the edited content in the editing area G44, and store the associated summary document in the storage unit 120. This completes the summary document generation support method S1B.

[0078] In addition, the summary document stored in step S215 may be displayed in the editing area of the summary document generation screen as the ``summary document before update'' the next time the summary document generation support method S1A or S1B is executed for the patient.

[0079] (Variation 2) The second exemplary embodiment can also be modified as follows. The generation unit 12 may use a language model to generate a new sentence summarizing one or more medical documents newly acquired by the acquisition unit 11 for the patient or another patient, by referring to a summary document generated by the user based on the automatically generated sentence generated by the generation unit 12. For example, the generation unit 12 may include, as an example of a prompt to be input to the language model, edits made by the user to the automatically generated sentence already generated by the generation unit 12. Note that Variation 2 can also be applied to Variation 1.

[0080] (Variation 3) The second exemplary embodiment can also be modified as follows. For example, some or all of the functional blocks included in the control unit 110 of the summary document generation support device 1A may be included in the control unit 210 of the user terminal 2. In other words, some or all of the functions of the summary document generation support system 10 may be implemented as terminal applications on the user terminal 2. Furthermore, a user may use the functions of the summary document generation support system 10 by using an input device and a display device connected to or built into the summary document generation support device 1A, without using the user terminal 2.

[0081] (Effects of the Summary Generation Support System) As described above, the summary generation support system 10 is configured such that, in response to the generation or update of at least one of one or more medical documents, the display control unit 13 displays the text generated by the generation unit 12 and the text generated by the user in a manner that allows them to be distinguished from each other. Therefore, in addition to the effects achieved by the summary generation support device 1, the summary generation support system 10 also provides the effect that, when a user generates or updates a medical document, the user can generate a summary while effectively utilizing text that is automatically generated to reflect the content of the generated or updated medical document.

[0082] Furthermore, in the summary generation support system 10, the display control unit 13 displays an editing area containing the text generated by the generation unit 12 in an editable manner, and in this editing area displays the text generated by the generation unit 12 and the parts of the text that have been edited by the user in a manner that allows them to be distinguished from each other. Therefore, in addition to the effects achieved by the summary generation support device 1, the summary generation support system 10 has the effect that the user can distinguish between the text generated by the generation unit 12 and the parts that he or she has edited, thereby enabling the user to more effectively use the text generated by the generation unit 12 when editing.

[0083] Furthermore, in the summary generation support system 10, the display control unit 13 displays an editing area that includes, in an editable manner, the text generated by the generation unit 12 and the unupdated summary generated by the user for the patient, and displays the text generated by the generation unit 12 and the unupdated summary in a manner that allows them to be distinguished from each other. Therefore, in addition to the effects achieved by the summary generation support device 1, the summary generation support system 10 provides the effect that, since the user can distinguish between the text generated by the generation unit 12 and a summary generated by the user in the past, the user can update a summary generated by the user in the past while more effectively utilizing the text generated by the generation unit 12.

[0084] Furthermore, in the summary document generation support system 10, the display control unit 13 is configured to display the display area for displaying the text generated by the generation unit 12 and the editing area for editing the summary document in a manner that allows them to be distinguished from each other. Therefore, in addition to the effects achieved by the summary document generation support device 1, the summary document generation support system 10 has the effect that the user can refer to the text generated by the generation unit 12 while distinguishing it from the text that the user is editing, thereby enabling the text to be more effectively used to generate a summary document.

[0085] Furthermore, in the summary generation support system 10, the acquisition unit 11 is configured to acquire, as the one or more medical documents, one or more medical documents that meet conditions specified by the user. Therefore, in addition to the effects achieved by the summary generation support device 1, the summary generation support system 10 provides the effect that the user can utilize text generated by the generation unit 12 from more appropriate medical documents to generate a summary.

[0086] Furthermore, the summary generation support system 10 is configured so that at least one of the one or more medical documents is examination information related to the patient's examination, nursing information related to the patient's care, test information related to the patient's tests, prescription drug information related to the patient's prescribed medication, or basic patient information indicating basic information about the patient. Therefore, in addition to the effects achieved by the summary generation support device 1, the summary generation support system 10 provides the effect that the user can utilize text generated by the generation unit 12 from a more appropriate type of medical document to generate a summary.

[0087] Furthermore, the summary generation support system 10 is configured such that the generation unit 12 uses a language model to generate a new sentence that summarizes one or more medical documents newly acquired by the acquisition unit 11 for the patient or other patients, by referring to a summary created by the user based on the sentence generated by the generation unit 12. Therefore, in addition to the effects achieved by the summary generation support device 1, the summary generation support system 10 can provide the effect of being able to feed back edited content by the user to the language model, thereby enabling the generation of a sentence that more accurately summarizes one or more medical documents.

[0088] [Example of implementation using software] Some or all of the functions of the summary document generation support device 1, 1A, and the user terminal 2 (hereinafter also referred to as "each of the above devices") may be implemented using hardware such as an integrated circuit (IC chip), or may be implemented using software.

[0089] In the latter case, each of the above devices is realized by, for example, a computer that executes instructions of a program, which is software that realizes each function. [0092] The computer C may further include a RAM (Random Access Memory) for expanding the program P during execution and for temporarily storing various data. The computer C may also include a communication interface for transmitting and receiving data to and from other devices. The computer C may also include an input / output interface for connecting input / output devices such as a keyboard, a mouse, a display, and a printer.

[0093] The program P can also be recorded on a non-transitory, tangible recording medium M that can be read by the computer C. Such a recording medium M can be, for example, a tape, a disk, a card, a semiconductor memory, or a programmable logic circuit. The computer C can acquire the program P via such a recording medium M. The program P can also be transmitted via a transmission medium. Such a transmission medium can be, for example, a communication network or broadcast waves. The computer C can also acquire the program P via such a transmission medium.
