Description

METHOD FOR CHANNEL STATE INFORMATION (CSI) FEEDBACK BASED ON TYPE 2 CODEBOOK AND MULTIPLE CSI REFERENCE SIGNAL (CSI-RS) RESOURCESFIELD

[0001] This disclosure relates generally to wireless communications and, more particularly, to channel state information (CSI) feedback.BACKGROUND

[0002] This background description is provided for the purpose of generally presenting the context of the disclosure. Work of the presently named inventors, to the extent as described in this background section, as well as aspects of the description that may not otherwise qualify as prior art at the time of filing, is neither expressly nor impliedly admitted as prior art against the present disclosure.

[0003] In multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems, channel state information (CSI) enables a network entity (NE) to select the digital precoder for a user equipment (UE) . Usually, the NE configures the UE to provide a CSI report using RRC signaling, e.g., CSI-ReportConfig. The NE configures the UE to use channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) as channel measurement resource (CMR) for the UE to measure the downlink channel. The NE may also configure interference measurement resource (IMR) for the UE to measure interference.

[0004] Based on the configured CMR and its associated IMR, the UE is able to identify the CSI, which may include at least one of rank indicator (RI) , precoder matrix indicator (PMI) , channel quality indicator (CQI) and layer indicator (LI) . RI and PMI are used to indicate the digital precoder, CQI is used to indicate the signal-to-interference plus noise (SINR) status in order to assist the NE to determine the modulation and coding scheme (MCS) , and LI is used to identify the strongest layer for the reported precoder indicated by RI and PMI.

[0005] Currently, the NE may transmit the CSI-RS from up to 32 ports by one CSI-RS resource. The NE may configure the UE to measure and report CSI based on a Type2 codebook and a CSI-RS resource. The UE sends the CSI measurements in the CSI report to the NE for precoders or beams selection. To improve the cell coverage and spectrum efficiency (SE) , the NE may transmit the downlink signals using more than 32 antenna ports. As a result, the current CSI reporting scheme might not be able to process the increased number of ports.SUMMARY

[0006] The present disclosure provides methods, systems, and techniques for reporting channel state information (CSI) measurements on multiple CSI reference signal (CSI-RS) resources. Current systems support a network entity to transmit a CSI-RS via up to 32 configured antenna ports per CSI-RS resource. In order to improve cell coverage and spectrum efficiency, network entities may transmit signals from a greater number of antenna ports (e.g., more than 32 antenna ports) than the current limit. The present disclosure provides methods for a user equipment (UE) to measure and report CSI based on multiple CSI-RS resources in a CSI-RS resource set and a codebook configuration for multiple beams / multiple ports (e.g., a Type II codebook or Type 2 codebook) . For example, the network entity configures four CSI-RS resources (each with 32 antenna ports per CSI-RS resource) for one CSI measurement based on a codebook configuration for 128 antenna ports. As such, the disclosed method supports improvement with additional ports and beams that are not supported by the current systems.

[0007] According to general aspects of this disclosure, a method for wireless communications by a user equipment (UE) includes receiving, from a network entity, a control signaling configuring a channel state information (CSI) report. The control signaling indicates a CSI reference signal (CSI-RS) resource set including a plurality of CSI-RS resources for channel measurement and a Type 2 codebook configuration. The UE receives, from the network entity, the plurality of CSI-RS resources. The UE transmits, to the network entity, the CSI report including at least one CSI measured from multiple CSI-RS resources of the plurality of CSI-RS resources and based on the Type 2 codebook configuration.

[0036] The present disclosure provides methods, systems, and techniques for reporting channel state information (CSI) measurements on multiple CSI reference signal (CSI-RS) resources.

[0037] In addition to using multiple CSI-RS resources in a single CSI, the disclosed methods further provide techniques for different uses of the reported CSI. In one configuration, the network entity uses CSI for selecting downlink precoder and configures the UE to measure and report CSI for CSI acquisition. In another configuration, the network entity uses CSI for collecting data used in training or implementing machine learning based CSI compression and / or prediction. In such a data collection configuration, the UE reports CSI (according to the configuration specific parameters and formats) for monitoring and / or training the associated machine learning models. This disclosure offers tailored configurations for the CSI measurement and report when the CSI is used for different purposes (e.g., CSI acquisition and data collection) . For example, the network entity may require a more frequent trigger for CSI acquisition than for data collection, while the network entity may require a higher measurement accuracy for data collection than for CSI acquisition.

[0038] In another aspect, the disclosed methods of CSI reporting address overhead and error issues related to an increased number of ports used in multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) operation. As the number of ports of the CSI-RS resources in a CSI-RS resource set increases, the beams in the beam grid become narrower. The present disclosure provides detailed examples for reducing the report overhead and minimizing quantization errors when the CSI reporting is used for different purposes. Furthermore, this disclosure sets forth conditions for reporting CSI based on multiple CSI-RS resources. For example, to avoid the UE reporting an outdated CSI, a requirement of a minimum processing time not exceeding a threshold is implemented. Similarly, the UE may not report a CSI if a number of occupied CSI processing units (CPU) exceeds a limit.

[0039] At a high level, aspects of this disclosure for reporting CSI based on multiple CSI-RS resources in a CSI-RS resource set include a wireless communication method by a UE. The example method includes receiving, from a network entity, a control signaling configuring the UE to report CSI. The control signaling indicates at least one of: a list of CSI-RS resource set of a plurality of CSI-RS resources for channel measurement, and a Type 2 codebook configuration. For example, a Type 2 codebook refers to Type II, Type 2, Enhanced Type II (or eType2) , Further Enhanced Type II (or FeType2) , or other codebooks that support multiple beams (e.g., in MIMO configuration) . The method further includes receiving, from the network entity, a plurality of CSI-RS resources for channel measurement. The UE then transmits, to the network entity, a CSI report including a CSI measured from the plurality of CSI-RS resources and based on the Type 2 codebook configuration.

[0040] Complimentary aspects of the disclosure include an example method of configuring CSI reporting by a network entity. The example method includes transmitting, to a UE, a control signaling configuring the UE to report CSI and a Type 2 codebook configuration. The network entity transmits a plurality of CSI-RS resources to the UE. The network entity then receives, from the UE, a CSI report including a CSI measured from the plurality of CSI-RS resources and based on the Type 2 codebook configuration.

[0041] The present disclosure improves cell coverage and spectrum efficiency by enabling a network entity to transmit downlink signals from more antenna ports than the limit of current systems, such as, 128 ports. The network entity may configure the UE to measure and report CSI  based on CSI-RS from those multiple antenna ports. According to aspects of this disclosure, the network entity may configure the UE to report a CSI based on multiple CSI-RS resources in a CSI-RS resource set. In one example, the network entity may configure 4 CSI-RS resources with 32 ports per resource for a CSI measurement and report based on a 128 ports codebook. Example methods are disclosed to configure the UE to measure the CSI based on a Type2 codebook and multiple CSI-RS resources in a CSI-RS resource set.

[0042] The NE may configure the UE to report the CSI based on the multiple CSI-RS resources in a CSI-RS resource set. In one use case, the CSI may be used for the downlink precoder selection for physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) transmission. This is denoted as CSI acquisition herein. In another use case, the CSI may be used for data collection for machine learning (ML) based CSI compression and / or prediction. This is denoted as data collection, when the UE may report the CSI for model monitoring and / or model training. The different use cases correspond to different requirements. For example, in cases of CSI acquisition, the NE may trigger the CSI report more frequently than in cases of data collection. In another example, the NE may require a lower quantization accuracy for cases of CSI acquisition than in cases of data collection. In yet another example, the NE may require a lower overhead for CSI report in cases of CSI acquisition than in cases of data collection.

[0043] The present disclosure further provides methods of configuring the CSI report for the CSI based on the narrow beams with regard to the report overhead and quantization error for the CSI for different functionalities. As the number of ports for the CSI-RS resources in the CSI-RS resource set increases, the beams in the beam grid becomes narrower, causing potential difficulties for existing CSI report overhead costs and quantization errors.

[0044] Further, the present disclosure provides for determining a minimum processing time for the CSI report based on multiple CSI-RS resources and Type2 codebook. The minimum processing time addresses the minimum offset between the last symbol of physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) scheduling CSI report and the first symbol of the uplink channel with the CSI report (Z) and the minimum offset between the last symbol of CMR / IMR for the CSI report and the first symbol of the uplink channel with the CSI report (Z’ ) . If the scheduling offset does not meet the requirement of Z and Z’ , the UE may report outdated CSI or refrain from  reporting the CSI in the CSI report. The minimum processing time may be common or different for CSI report for different functionalities.

[0045] The present disclosure also provides for determining the number of occupied CSI processing units (CPU) for the CSI report based on multiple CSI-RS resources and Type2 codebook could be another problem. If the total number of occupied CPUs exceeds the maximum number of CPUs that the UE supports, the UE may report outdated CSI or refrain from reporting the CSI in the CSI report. The CPU occupancy rule may be common or different for CSI report for different functionalities. Detailed aspects of CSI-RS resources configuration, CSI report configuration and quantization, and determining the minimum processing delay for the CSI report and CPU occupancy rule for the CSI report are discussed in various examples below.

[0046] Fig. 1 illustrates a diagram 100 of a wireless communications system associated with multiple cells 190. The wireless communications system includes user equipments (UEs) 102 and base stations / network entities 104. Some base stations may include an aggregated base station architecture and other base stations may include a disaggregated base station architecture. The aggregated base station architecture utilizes a radio protocol stack that is physically or logically integrated within a single radio access network (RAN) node. A disaggregated base station architecture utilizes a protocol stack that is physically or logically distributed among two or more units (e.g., radio unit (RU) 106, distributed unit (DU) 108, central unit (CU) 110) . For example, a CU 110 is implemented within a RAN node, and one or more DUs 108 may be co-located with the CU 110, or alternatively, may be geographically or virtually distributed throughout one or multiple other RAN nodes. The DUs 108 may be implemented to communicate with one or more RUs 106. Any of the RU 106, the DU 108 and the CU 110 may be implemented as virtual units, such as a virtual radio unit (VRU) , a virtual distributed unit (VDU) , or a virtual central unit (VCU) . The base station / network entity 104 (e.g., an aggregated base station or disaggregated units of the base station, such as the RU 106 or the DU 108) , may be referred to as a transmission reception point (TRP) .

[0047] Operations of the base station (BS) 104 and / or network designs may be based on aggregation characteristics of base station functionality. For example, disaggregated base station architectures are utilized in an integrated access backhaul (IAB) network, an open-radio access  network (O-RAN) network, or a virtualized radio access network (vRAN) , which may also be referred to a cloud radio access network (C-RAN) . Disaggregation may include distributing functionality across the two or more units at various physical locations, as well as distributing functionality for at least one unit virtually, which may enable flexibility in network designs. The various units of the disaggregated base station architecture, or the disaggregated RAN architecture, may be configured for wired or wireless communication with at least one other unit. For example, the base stations (BSs) 104d, 104e and / or the RUs 106a, 106b, 106c, 106d may communicate with the UEs 102a, 102b, 102c, 102d, and / or 102s via one or more radio frequency (RF) access links based on a Uu interface. In examples, multiple RUs 106 and / or BSs 104 may simultaneously serve the UEs 102, such as by intra-cell and / or inter-cell access links between the UEs 102 and the RUs 106 / BSs 104.

[0048] The RU 106, the DU 108, and the CU 110 may include (or may be coupled to) one or more interfaces configured to transmit or receive information / signals via a wired or wireless transmission medium. For example, a wired interface may be configured to transmit or receive the information / signals over a wired transmission medium, such as via the fronthaul link 160 between the RU 106d and the baseband unit (BBU) 112 of the BS 104d associated with the cell 190d. The BBU 112 includes a DU 108 and a CU 110, which may also have a wired interface (e.g., midhaul link) configured between the DU 108 and the CU 110 to transmit or receive the information / signals between the DU 108 and the CU 110. In further examples, a wireless interface, which may include a receiver, a transmitter, or a transceiver, such as an RF transceiver, configured to transmit and / or receive the information / signals via the wireless transmission medium, such as for information communicated between the RU 106a of the cell 190a and the BS 104e of the cell 190e via cross-cell communication beams 136-138 of the RU 106a and the BS 104e.

[0049] The RUs 106 may be configured to implement lower layer functionality. For example, the RU 106 is controlled by the DU 108 and may correspond to a logical node that hosts RF processing functions, or lower layer PHY functionality, such as execution of fast Fourier transform (FFT) , inverse FFT (iFFT) , digital beamforming, physical random access channel (PRACH) extraction and filtering, etc. The functionality of the RU 106 may be based on the functional split, such as a functional split of lower layers.

[0050] The RUs 106 may transmit or receive over-the-air (OTA) communication with one or more UEs 102. For example, the RU 106b of the cell 190b communicates with the UE 102b of the cell 190b via a first set of communication beams 132 of the RU 106b and a second set of communication beams 134b of the UE 102b, which may correspond to inter-cell communication beams or, in some examples, cross-cell communication beams. For instance, the UE 102b of the cell 190b may communicate with the RU 106a of the cell 190a via a third set of communication beams 134a of the UE 102b and a fourth set of communication beams 136 of the RU 106a. DUs 108 may control both real-time and non-real-time features of control plane and user plane communications of the RUs 106.

[0051] Any combination of the RU 106, the DU 108, and the CU 110, or reference thereto individually, may correspond to a BS 104. Thus, the BS 104 may include at least one of the RU 106, the DU 108, or the CU 110. The BSs 104 provide the UEs 102 with access to a core network. The BSs 104 may relay communications between the UEs 102 and the core network (not shown) . The BSs 104 may be associated with macrocells for higher-power cellular base stations and / or small cells for lower-power cellular base stations. For example, the cell 190e may correspond to a macrocell, whereas the cells 190a-190d may correspond to small cells. Small cells include femtocells, picocells, microcells, etc. A network that includes at least one macrocell and at least one small cell may be referred to as a “heterogeneous network. ”

[0052] Transmissions from a UE 102 to a BS 104 / RU 106 are referred to as uplink (UL) transmissions, whereas transmissions from the BS 104 / RU 106 to the UE 102 are referred to as downlink (DL) transmissions. Uplink transmissions may also be referred to as reverse link transmissions and downlink transmissions may also be referred to as forward link transmissions. For example, the RU 106d utilizes antennas of the BS 104d of cell 190d to transmit a downlink / forward link communication to the UE 102d or receive an uplink / reverse link communication from the UE 102d based on the Uu interface associated with the access link between the UE 102d and the BS 104d / RU 106d.

[0053] Communication links between the UEs 102 and the BSs 104 / RUs 106 may be based on multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) antenna technology, including spatial multiplexing, beamforming, and / or transmit diversity. The communication links may be associated with one or more carriers. The UEs 102 and the BSs 104 / RUs 106 may utilize a spectrum bandwidth of Y  MHz (e.g., 5, 10, 15, 20, 100, 400, 800, 1600, 2000, etc. MHz) per carrier allocated in a carrier aggregation of up to a total of Yx MHz, where x component carriers (CCs) are used for communication in each of the uplink and downlink directions. The carriers may or may not be adjacent to each other along a frequency spectrum. In examples, uplink and downlink carriers may be allocated in an asymmetric manner, with more or fewer carriers allocated to either the uplink or the downlink. A primary component carrier and one or more secondary component carriers may be included in the component carriers. The primary component carrier may be associated with a primary cell (Pcell) and a secondary component carrier may be associated with a secondary cell (Scell) .

[0054] Some UEs 102, such as the UEs 102a and 102s, may perform device-to-device (D2D) communications over sidelink. For example, a sidelink communication / D2D link utilizes a spectrum for a wireless wide area network (WWAN) associated with uplink and downlink communications. Such sidelink / D2D communication may be performed through various wireless communications systems, such as wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) systems, Bluetooth systems, Long Term Evolution (LTE) systems, New Radio (NR) systems, etc.

[0055] The UEs 102 and the BSs 104 / RUs 106 may each include multiple antennas. The multiple antennas may correspond to antenna elements, antenna panels, and / or antenna arrays that may facilitate beamforming operations. For example, the RU 106b transmits a downlink beamformed signal based on a first set of communication beams 132 to the UE 102b in one or more transmit directions of the RU 106b. The UE 102b may receive the downlink beamformed signal based on a second set of communication beams 134b from the RU 106b in one or more receive directions of the UE 102b. In a further example, the UE 102b may also transmit an uplink beamformed signal (e.g., sounding reference signal (SRS) ) to the RU 106b based on the second set of communication beams 134b in one or more transmit directions of the UE 102b. The RU 106b may receive the uplink beamformed signal from the UE 102b in one or more receive directions of the RU 106b. The UE 102b may perform beam training to determine the best receive and transmit directions for the beamformed signals. The transmit and receive directions for the UEs 102 and the BSs 104 / RUs 106 may or may not be the same.

[0056] In further examples, beamformed signals may be communicated between a first base station / RU 106a and a second BS 104e. For instance, the BS 104e of the cell 190e may transmit  a beamformed signal to the RU 106a based on the communication beams 138 in one or more transmit directions of the BS 104e. The RU 106a may receive the beamformed signal from the BS 104e of the cell 190e based on the RU communication beams 136 in one or more receive directions of the RU 106a. In further examples, the BS 104e transmits a downlink beamformed signal to the UE 102e based on the communication beams 138 in one or more transmit directions of the BS 104e. The UE 102e receives the downlink beamformed signal from the BS 104e based on UE communication beams 130 in one or more receive directions of the UE 102e. The UE 102e may also transmit an uplink beamformed signal to the BS 104e based on the UE communication beams 130 in one or more transmit directions of the UE 102e, such that the BS 104e may receive the uplink beamformed signal from the UE 102e in one or more receive directions of the BS 104e.

[0057] The BS 104 may include and / or be referred to as a network entity. That is, “network entity” may refer to the BS 104 or at least one unit of the BS 104, such as the RU 106, the DU 108, and / or the CU 110. The BS 104 may also include and / or be referred to as a next generation evolved Node B (ng-eNB) , a next generation NB (gNB) , an evolved NB (eNB) , an access point, a base transceiver station, a radio base station, a radio transceiver, a transceiver function, a basic service set (BSS) , an extended service set (ESS) , a TRP, a network node, network equipment, or other related terminology. The BS 104 or an entity at the BS 104 may be implemented as an IAB node, a relay node, a sidelink node, an aggregated (monolithic) base station, or a disaggregated base station including one or more RUs 106, DUs 108, and / or CUs 110. A set of aggregated or disaggregated base stations may be referred to as a next generation-radio access network (NG-RAN) . In some examples, the UE 102a operates in dual connectivity (DC) with the BS 104e and the base station / RU 106a. In such cases, the BS 104e may be a master node and the base station / RU 160a may be a secondary node.

[0058] Uplink / downlink signaling may also be communicated via a satellite positioning system (SPS) 114. In an example, the SPS 114 associated with the cell 190c may be in communication with one or more UEs 102, such as the UE 102c, and one or more BSs 104 / RUs 106, such as the RU 106c. The SPS 114 may correspond to one or more of a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) , a global position system (GPS) , a non-terrestrial network (NTN) , or other satellite position / location system. The SPS 114 may be associated with LTE signals, NR  signals (e.g., based on round trip time (RTT) and / or multi-RTT) , wireless local area network (WLAN) signals, a terrestrial beacon system (TBS) , sensor-based information, NR enhanced cell ID (NR E-CID) techniques, downlink angle-of-departure (DL-AoD) , downlink time difference of arrival (DL-TDOA) , uplink time difference of arrival (UL-TDOA) , uplink angle-of-arrival (UL-AoA) , and / or other systems, signals, or sensors.

[0059] In Fig. 1, any of the UEs 102 may include a CSI report component 140 configured to receiving, from the BS 104, a control signaling configuring a CSI report. The control signaling indicates: a CSI-RS resource set including a plurality of CSI-RS resources for channel measurement, and a Type 2 codebook configuration. The CSI report component 140 may receive, from the BS 104, the plurality of CSI-RS resources and transmit, to the BS 104, the CSI report including at least one CSI measured from multiple CSI-RS resources of the plurality of CSI-RS resources and based on the Type 2 codebook configuration. Correspondingly, the BS 104 includes a CSI configuration component 150 for transmitting the control signaling and receiving the CSI report from the UE 102.

[0060] Accordingly, Fig. 1 describes a wireless communication system that may be implemented in connection with aspects of one or more other figures described herein. Further, although the following description may be focused on 5G NR, the concepts described herein may be applicable to other similar areas, such as 5G-Advanced and future versions, LTE, LTE-advanced (LTE-A) , and other wireless technologies, such as 6G.

[0061] Fig. 2 illustrates an example diagram 200 of precoder selection based on the Type 2 codebook for one layer, in accordance with aspects of this disclosure. In the graph 210, N1 and N2 are determined by the number of antenna ports in respective horizontal and vertical directions (e.g., corresponding to the horizontal and vertical beams) . O1 (number of horizontal oversampled beams) and O2 (number of vertical oversampled beams) may determine the sweeping steps of a beam and correspond to discrete Fourier transform (DFT) oversampling. As shown, a network entity may select wideband selected beams by combining the matrices of each subband precoder (of subbands 1, . . ., N3) of the graphs 220 and 230 (additional graphs therebetween not shown) . N1, N2, O1, and O2 are further discussed in view of equations 1-7 below.

[0062] In MIMO systems, the channel state information (CSI) may provide the key information for a network entity (NE) to select the digital precoder for a UE. Often, the network  entity configures a CSI report using RRC signaling, e.g., CSI-ReportConfig, in which CSI-RS is used as channel measurement resource (CMR) for the UE to measure the downlink channel. The network entity may also configure some interference measurement resource (IMR) for UE to measure interference. Based on the configured CMR and its associated IMR, the UE is able to identify the CSI, which may include at least one of rank indicator (RI) , precoder matrix indicator (PMI) , channel quality indicator (CQI) and layer indicator (LI) . RI and PMI are used to indicate the digital precoder, CQI is used to indicate the signal-to-interference plus noise (SINR) status in order to assist the network entity to determine the modulation and coding scheme (MCS) , and LI is used to identify the strongest layer for the reported precoder indicated by RI and PMI.

[0063] In current systems, the network entity may transmit the CSI-RS from up to 32 ports by one CSI-RS resource. The network entity may configure the UE to measure and report CSI based on a Type2 codebook and a CSI-RS resource. The Type2 codebook may be one of the followings: Type2 codebook, Type2 port selection codebook, eType2 codebook, eType2 port selection codebook, FeType2 port selection codebook, eType2 codebook for coherent joint transmission, FeType2 port selection codebook for coherent joint transmission, eType2 codebook for predicted PMI, or FeType2 port selection codebook for predicted PMI (e.g., various examples provided in 3GPP Technical Specification (TS) 38.214, sections 5.2.2.2.3-11) .

[0064] For CSI report based on Type2 codebook, the UE may report the PMI for each subbands by reporting the coefficients indicating a list of wideband beam index (es) indicating the spatial-domain (SD) basis and a beam combining matrix for each subband for each layer as equation 1. W=W1W2                     (1)

[0065] In equation 1, W1 indicates the SD basis, and W2 indicates the beam combining matrix for a subband and a layer. The UE selects L wideband beams from a codebook based on the number of horizontal antenna ports (N1) , number of vertical antenna ports (N2) , oversampling factor for horizontal beams (O1) and oversampling factor for vertical beams (O2) . B=[b1 b2 … bL]                          (3)

[0066] In the above,  denotes Kronecker product, m and n indicate the beam index in horizontal and vertical respectively.

[0067] For some Type2 codebooks, e.g., eType2 / FeType2 codebook, the UE may report the beam combining matrices for all the subbands by reporting a compressed beam combining matrix for each layer and a list of frequency-domain (FD) basis. For eType2 / FeType2 codebook for predicted PMI, the UE may report the beam combining matrix for each layer for multiple slots by reporting a compressed beam combining matrix for all the subbands, a list of FD basis and a list of Doppler-domain (DD) basis.

[0068] Fig. 3 illustrates an example diagram 300 of CSI report based on Type2 codebook and multiple CSI-RS resources, in accordance with aspects of this disclosure. As shown, the UE 102 may optionally report 302, to the NE 104, the UE capabilities indicating the supported configurations for the CSI feedback based on Type2 codebook and multiple CSI-RS resources. The UE 102 may report at least one of the UE capabilities: the supported Type2 codebook (s) for the CSI report based on multiple CSI-RS resources; the maximum total number of antenna ports across CSI-RS resources within a CSI-RS resource set for a CSI report; the maximum number of CSI-RS resources in a CSI-RS resource set; supported time-domain behavior (e.g., periodic,  semi-persistent, aperiodic) for the CSI-RS resources; supported time-domain behavior (e.g., periodic, semi-persistent, aperiodic, UE-initiated / event-driven) for the CSI report. The UE may report the UE capabilities separately for CSI report for CSI acquisition and data collection. The UE may report the UE capabilities commonly or separately for data collection for model monitoring and model training.

[0069] Based on the received UE capabilities, the NE 104 transmits 304, to the UE 102, a control signaling. The control signaling configures at least one CSI report configuration for CSI acquisition and / or data collection including a list of CSI-RS resource set (s) for channel measurement, a Type2 codebook configuration based on the total number of antenna ports for CSI-RS resources in one of the configured CSI-RS resource set for channel measurement, and port configuration for each CSI-RS resource for channel measurement.

[0070] In some aspects, the NE 104 may configure at least one of the parameters: a list of CSI-RS resources for interference measurement, and a list of CSI-IM for interference measurement. The NE may transmit the control signaling by RRC signaling, e.g., RRCReconfiguration or CSI-ReportConfig. In some implementations, the NE may refrain from configuring the CSI report based on multiple CSI-RS resources when the number of ports for the Type2 codebook is smaller than or equal to a threshold, where the threshold may be predefined or reported by the UE capability. Thus, the UE may not expect the NE configure the CSI report based on multiple CSI-RS resources when the number of ports for the Type2 codebook is smaller than or equal to the threshold. In some implementations, the NE may refrain from configuring CSI report based on multiple CSI-RS resources and Type2 codebook if the number of antenna ports (2*N1*N2) for the Type2 codebook is below or equal to a threshold, where the threshold may be reported by the UE capability or predefined, e.g., 32.

[0071] In some implementations, for semi-persistent CSI report or aperiodic CSI report, the NE 104 may transmit 306 a MAC CE or DCI for activating or triggering the CSI report. For semi-persistent CSI-RS or aperiodic CSI-RS, the NE may transmit MAC CE or DCI for activating or triggering the CSI-RS. When the NE 104 configures multiple CSI-RS resource sets for channel measurement, the NE 104 may indicate at least one of the CSI-RS resource sets for channel measurement by the MAC CE or DCI. In one example, the NE may indicate the CSI-RS resource set (s) for channel measurement by the aperiodic CSI trigger state corresponding to the  value of the DCI field CSI request indicated by the DCI. In one example, the NE may trigger the aperiodic CSI by one of the DCI format 0_1, 0_2, or 0_3.

[0072] The NE 104 transmits 308, to the UE 102, the configured CSI-RS resource sets for channel measurement, and / or the configured CSI-RS or CSI-IM resource sets for interference measurement. In some examples, the UE 102 then determines whether to report the CSI for the received CSI-RS resources and / or CSI-IM resources based on whether the scheduling offset meets the minimum processing delay requirement and the CPU occupancy rule.

[0073] When the conditions are met and the UE 102 determines to report the CSI, the UE 102 transmits 310 the CSI report based on the CSI report configuration by an uplink channel, e.g., Physical Uplink Shared Channel (PUSCH) or Physical Uplink Control Channel (PUCCH) . In the CSI report, the UE may transmit the CSI based on the Type2 codebook configuration and the received CSI-RS resource set for channel measurement. In some aspects, the CSI report is further based on one or multiple CSI-RS / CSI-IM resources for interference measurement.

[0074] Fig. 4 illustrates an example diagram 400 of UE behavior in reporting CSI based on Type2 codebook and multiple CSI-RS resources, in accordance with aspects of this disclosure. As shown, the UE optionally transmits 402, to a NE, the UE capability on supported configurations for CSI report for CSI acquisition and data collection based on Type 2 codebook and multiple CSI-RS resources.

[0075] The UE receives 404 a control signaling from the NE (e.g., based on the UE capability) . The control signaling configures at least one CSI report configuration for CSI acquisition and / or data collection, which includes a list of CSI-RS resource sets for channel measurement, a Type 2 codebook configuration based on the total number of ports for the CSI-RS resources in a CSI-RS resource set, and port configuration for the list of CSI-RS resources. The control signaling may optionally include a list of CSI-RS and / or CSI-IM resource set (s) for interference measurement.

[0076] The UE, in some cases, receives 406 a MAC CE or DCI triggering the configured CSI report (s) and / or the configured CSI-RS resource set (s) for channel measurement and / or the configured CSI-RS / CSI-IM resource set (s) for interference measurement.

[0077] The UE receives 408 configured CSI-RS resource set (s) from the NE, and performs channel measurements and / or interference measurements. The UE determines 410 whether the scheduled CSI report meets the processing delay requirement and whether the number of occupied CPUs exceed the maximum number of CPUs (per a CPU occupancy rule) .

[0078] When the requirements are met, the UE transmits 410 CSI report based on the received CSI-RS resources in a CSI-RS resource set, or one or more CSI-RS / CSI-IM resource for interference measurement. The CSI report may further be based on the Type 2 codebook configuration determined based on the determined status of processing delay and the CPU occupancy rule.

[0079] In this disclosure, unless specified, a RRC signaling may indicate a RRC reconfiguration message from gNB to UE, or a System Information Block (SIB) , where the SIB may be an existing SIB (e.g., SIB1) or a new SIB (e.g., SIB J, where J is an integer above 21) transmitted by gNB. In some implementations, the NE may receive the UE capability from a UE or from a core network (e.g., Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF) ) or another NE.

[0080] Fig. 5 illustrates an example diagram 500 of NE behavior in configuring CSI report based on Type2 codebook and multiple CSI-RS resources, in accordance with aspects of this disclosure. The NE behavior is complementary to the UE behavior shown in Fig. 4. As shown, a NE receives 502 the UE capability (optional) about supported configurations for CSI report based on Type 2 codebook and multiple CSI-Rs resources. The CSI report may be used for CSI acquisition and / or data collection.

[0081] Based on the UE capability, the NE transmits 504 a control signaling to the UE. configures at least one CSI report configuration for CSI acquisition and / or data collection, which includes a list of CSI-RS resource sets for channel measurement, a Type 2 codebook configuration based on the total number of ports for the CSI-RS resources in a CSI-RS resource set, and port configuration for the list of CSI-RS resources. The control signaling may optionally include a list of CSI-RS and / or CSI-IM resource set (s) for interference measurement.

[0082] The NE, in some cases, transmits 506 a MAC CE or DCI triggering the configured CSI report (s) and / or the configured CSI-RS resource set (s) for channel measurement and / or the configured CSI-RS / CSI-IM resource set (s) for interference measurement.

[0083] The NE transmits 508 configured CSI-RS resource set (s) to the UE, and performs channel measurements and / or interference measurements. The NE determines 510 whether the scheduled CSI report meets the processing delay requirement and whether the number of occupied CPUs exceed the maximum number of CPUs (per a CPU occupancy rule) . When the requirements are met, the NE receives CSI report based on the received CSI-RS resources in a CSI-RS resource set, or one or more CSI-RS / CSI-IM resource for interference measurement. The CSI report may further be based on the Type 2 codebook configuration determined based on the determined status of processing delay and the CPU occupancy rule.

[0084] Referring to Figs. 3-5, in an embodiment, the NE 104 configures the UE 102 to measure the CSI based on a CSI-RS resource set for channel measurement. The NE 104 may configure one or multiple CSI-RS resource sets for channel measurement by the RRC signaling, e.g., CSI-ReportConfig. If the NE 104 configures multiple CSI-RS resource sets for channel measurement, the NE 104 may indicate one of the configured CSI-RS resource sets for a CSI report by the MAC CE or DCI. In one example, the NE 104 may indicate different CSI-RS resource sets for channel measurement by indicating different values of DCI field CSI request, where different values may correspond to different aperiodic CSI request states corresponding to different CSI-RS resource sets for channel measurement. The total number of antenna ports for the CSI-RS resources in the CSI-RS resource set for channel measurement is 2*N1*N2.

[0085] In some implementations, the NE 104 may configure a CSI-RS resource for interference measurement and / or a CSI-IM resource for interference measurement associated with each CSI-RS resource or CSI-RS resource set for channel measurement. The NE may configure one or multiple CSI-RS / CSI-IM resource sets for interference measurement by the RRC signaling, e.g., CSI-ReportConfig. If the NE 104 configures multiple CSI-RS / CSI-IM resource sets for interference measurement, the NE 104 may indicate one of the configured CSI-RS / CSI-IM resource sets for a CSI report by the MAC CE or DCI. In one example, the NE 104 may indicate different CSI-RS / CSI-IM resource sets for interference measurement by indicating different value of DCI field CSI request, where different values may correspond to different aperiodic CSI request states corresponding to different CSI-RS / CSI-IM resource sets for interference measurement.

[0086] The UE measures the CSI based on the CSI-RS resources in a CSI-RS resource set for channel measurement and the associated CSI-RS / CSI-IM resource (s) . The UE applies the same spatial domain filter to receive the CSI-RS resources in the CSI-RS resource set and the associated CSI-RS / CSI-IM resource (s) .

[0087] In some implementations, the NE 104 transmits the CSI-RS resources within the CSI-RS resource set based on the same time domain behavior. The NE configures the same value for at least one of the parameters for the CSI-RS resources within the CSI-RS resource set: bandwidth, subcarriers, periodicity, number of antenna ports, EPRE ratio between PDSCH and the CSI-RS (e.g., powerControlOffset) , EPRE ratio between the CSI-RS and SSS (e.g., powerControlOffsetSS) , scrambling ID or TCI state. The NE may transmit the CSI-RS resources within the CSI-RS resource set in one slot or S consecutive slots, e.g., S=2. Thus, the UE 102 (or UE in general) may expect the NE 104 configure the same value for at least one of the parameters for the CSI-RS resources within the CSI-RS resource set: bandwidth, subcarriers, periodicity, number of antenna ports, EPRE ratio between PDSCH and the CSI-RS (e.g., powerControlOffset) , EPRE ratio between the CSI-RS and SSS (e.g., powerControlOffsetSS) , scrambling ID or TCI state. The UE may further expect the NE 104 transmits the CSI-RS resources within the CSI-RS resource set in one slot or S consecutive slots, e.g., S=2.

[0088] In an embodiment, the NE may configure (explicitly) the antenna port location for the Type2 codebook for each antenna port for each CSI-RS resource in a CSI-RS resource set. The NE may configure the antenna port location in each CSI-RS resource or in the codebook configuration or in the CSI report configuration.

[0089] For example, the NE may configure the antenna port location by 2*N1*N2 bits, where bit x indicates whether the antenna port x for the Type2 codebook is transmitted by the CSI-RS resource or not. The UE determines the order of the antenna ports in the codebook used for the CSI-RS resource based on the antenna port index for the CSI-RS resource. In one example, if the antenna port {x1, x2, …, xPj} for the CSI-RS resource j are used by the CSI-RS resource, the UE calculate the CSI from the antenna port {x1, x2, …, xPj} in the Type2 codebook based on the CSI-RS in antenna port {3000, 3001, …, 3009+Pj} for the CSI-RS resource respectively. In another example, the NE may configure the antenna port location in the Type2 codebook for each antenna port of the CSI-RS resource.

[0090] In an embodiment, the NE and UE may perform port re-indexing for the CSI-RS resources to calculate the CSI, where the re-indexed port is based on the CSI-RS resource index within the CSI-RS resource set and the number of ports for each CSI-RS resource.

[0091] In some implementations, the NE and / or UE may determine the re-indexed ports for a CSI-RS are continuous. In one example, the re-indexed port for the first CSI-RS resource is from 3000 to 3000+P1-1, and the re-index port for the second CSI-RS resource is from 3000+P1 to 3000+P1+P2 –1, and so on, where Pj indicates the number of antenna ports configured for CSI-RS resource j in the CSI-RS resource set.

[0092] In some other implementations, the NE and / or UE may determine the re-indexed ports for a CSI-RS resource are discontinuous. In one example, the re-indexed port for the first CSI-RS resource is from 3000 to 3000+P1 / 2-1 and from 3000+M / 2 to 3000+M / 2+P1 / 2-1, the re-indexed port for the first CSI-RS resource is from 3000+P1 to 3000+P1+P1 / 2-1 and from 3000+P1+M / 2 to 3000+P1+M / 2+P1 / 2-1, and so on. The value of M may indicate the total number of ports across the CSI-RS resources in a CSI-RS resource set for channel measurement.

[0093] In some implementations, the NE may configure the port re-indexing scheme for the CSI-RS resources. In one example, the NE may configure whether the UE should perform the port re-indexing based on the continuous or discontinuous antenna ports.

[0094] Fig. 6 illustrates an example 600 for the CSI report based on one CSI-RS resource set with multiple CSI-RS resource subset and Type2 codebook for PMI prediction, in accordance with aspects of this disclosure. As shown, the NE transmits (e.g., 308 in FIG. 3, and 508 in FIG. 5) CSI-RS resource set 1 610 to the UE for channel measurement. The CSI-RS resource set 1 610 includes CSI-RS resource 1 for port 0-31 from the configured codebook, CSI-RS resource 2 for port 32-63 from the configured codebook, CSI-RS resource 3 for port 0-31 from the configured codebook, and CSI-RS resource 4 for port 32-63 from the configured codebook.

[0095] As shown in Fig. 6, the UE receives 620, from the NE, a DCI triggering the aperiodic CSI report based on aperiodic CSI-RS resource set 1. The UE then receives 622, from the NE, CSI-RS resources 1 and 2 of CSI-RS resource set 1. Accordingly, the UE measures CSI (CSI 1) based on the CSI-RS resources 1 and 2. The UE then receives 624, from the NE, CSI-RS resources 3 and 4 of CSI-RS resource set 1. Accordingly, the UE measures CSI (CSI 2) based on  the CSI-RS resources 3 and 4. The UE then transmits 626 the CSI report including CSI for predicted slot (s) based on the measured CSI 1 and CSI 2.

[0096] In an embodiment, the NE may configure an aperiodic CSI-RS resource set for channel measurement and the eType2 / FeType2 codebook for predicted PMI, and configure a subset of CSI-RS resources are from the same or different antenna ports. The NE may transmit every K CSI-RS resources within the aperiodic CSI-RS resource set in different slots. Then based on the measurement of the aperiodic CSI-RS resource set, the UE may calculate the predicted PMI for predicted slot (s) configured by the NE.

[0097] In some implementations, the NE may configure one or multiple CSI-RS resource subsets for the CSI-RS resource set, and each CSI-RS resource subset includes the CSI-RS resources from the same or different antenna ports. In one example, if the NE configures the UE to measure one CSI based on K CSI-RS resources from different antenna ports, the NE may configure K CSI-RS resource subsets, and each CSI-RS resource subset includes the CSI-RS resources from the different antenna ports corresponding to one CSI measurement occasion. In another example, if the NE configures the UE to measure V CSIs corresponding to V CSI measurement occasions, the NE may configure V CSI-RS resource subsets, and each CSI-RS resource subset includes the CSI-RS resources for one CSI measurement occasion corresponding to different antenna ports.

[0098] In some implementations, the NE and / or UE may determine whether the CSI-RS resources are from the same or different antenna ports based on the time-domain location of the CSI-RS resources. In one example, the NE and / or UE may determine the CSI-RS resources within one or S slots are from different antenna ports and correspond to one CSI measurement occasion, where S may be configured by the NE or pre-defined, e.g., S=2.

[0099] In some implementations, the NE and / or UE may determine whether the CSI-RS resources are from the same or different antenna ports based on the CSI-RS resource index within the CSI-RS resource set. In one example, the first K CSI-RS resources are from different antenna ports and correspond to the first CSI measurement occasion, and the second K CSI-RS resources are from different antenna ports and correspond to the second CSI measurement occasion, and so on. In another example, the first V CSI-RS resources are from the same antenna ports (the first set of antenna ports) and correspond to different CSI measurement occasions, and  the second V CSI-RS resources are from the same antenna ports (the second set of antenna ports) and correspond to different CSI measurement occasions, and so on.

[0100] The CSI-RS resource set for other embodiments may be replaced by the CSI-RS resources for CSI measurement or the CSI-RS resource subset for CSI measurement.

[0101] Fig. 7 illustrates an example 700 for the CSI report based on multiple CSI-RS resource sets and Type2 codebook for PMI prediction, in accordance with aspects of this disclosure. As shown, the UE receives (e.g., 308 in FIG. 3, 508 in FIG. 5) CSI-RS resource set 1 710 and CSI-RS resource set 2 720 for channel measurement. The CSI-RS resource set 1 710 includes CSI-RS resource 1 for port 0-31 from the configured codebook and CSI-RS resource 2 for port 32-63 from the configured codebook. The CSI-RS resource set 2 720 includes CSI-RS resource 3 for port 0-31 from the configured codebook, and CSI-RS resource 4 for port 32-63 from the configured codebook.

[0102] As shown in Fig. 7, the UE receives 720, from the NE, a DCI triggering the aperiodic CSI report based on aperiodic CSI-RS resource sets 1 and 2. The UE then receives 722, from the NE, CSI-RS resources set 1 710 which includes CSI-RS resources 1 and 2. Accordingly, the UE measures CSI (CSI 1) based on the CSI-RS resource set 1. The UE then receives 724, from the NE, CSI-RS resources set 2 712 which includes CSI-RS resources 3 and 4. Accordingly, the UE measures CSI (CSI 2) based on the CSI-RS resource set 2. The UE then transmits 726 the CSI report including CSI for predicted slot (s) based on the measured CSI 1 and CSI 2.

[0103] In embodiments similar to the example 700, the NE may configure multiple aperiodic CSI-RS resource sets for channel measurement and the eType2 / FeType2 codebook for predicted PMI. In some implementations, the NE and UE may determine the CSI-RS resources in a CSI-RS resource set are from the different antenna ports, and different CSI-RS resource sets correspond to different CSI measurement occasion. In some implementations, the NE and UE may determine the CSI-RS resources in a CSI-RS resource set are from the same antenna ports and correspond to different CSI measurement occasion, and different CSI-RS resource sets correspond to different antenna ports.

[0104] In some implementations, the NE may trigger one or multiple aperiodic CSI-RS resource sets by the DCI, e.g., the DCI based on DCI format 0_1 / 0_2 / 0_3 triggering the CSI  report. The NE may indicate an aperiodic CSI triggering state, which configures one or multiple or all the configured aperiodic CSI-RS resource sets index for channel measurement. Alternatively, when the NE triggers the aperiodic CSI report corresponding to a CSI report configuration with multiple aperiodic CSI-RS resource sets and eType2 / FeType2 codebook configured and CSI measurement based on multiple CSI-RS resources configured, the NE triggers all the configured aperiodic CSI-RS resource sets.

[0105] In an embodiment, the NE may configure periodic or semi-persistent CSI-RS resource set for channel measurement and the eType2 / FeType2 codebook for predicted PMI for the CSI report with one CSI measured from multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna ports. Thus, the NE may refrain from configuring aperiodic CSI-RS resource set for channel measurement and the eType2 / FeType2 codebook for predicted PMI for the CSI report with one CSI measured from multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna ports. The UE may not expect the NE configure aperiodic CSI-RS resource set for channel measurement and the eType2 / FeType2 codebook for predicted PMI for the CSI report with one CSI measured from multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna ports.

[0106] In some other implementations, the NE may configure the Type2 / eType2 / FeType2 codebook (e.g., codebook without PMI prediction) for the CSI report with one CSI measured from multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna ports. Thus, the NE may refrain from configuring the eType2 / FeType2 codebook for predicted PMI for the CSI report with one CSI measured from multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna ports. The UE may not expect the NE configure the eType2 / FeType2 codebook for predicted PMI for the CSI report with one CSI measured from multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna ports.

[0107] In an embodiment, when the NE configures multiple CSI-RS resources in the CSI-RS resource set for channel measurement in a CSI report configuration, the NE may configure the codebook in the CSI report configuration based on at least one of the followings: Type2 codebook, Type2 port selection codebook, eType2 codebook, eType2 port selection codebook, FeType2 port selection codebook, eType2 codebook for coherent joint transmission, FeType2 port selection codebook for coherent joint transmission, eType2 codebook for predicted PMI or FeType2 port selection codebook for predicted PMI.

[0108] In one example, the NE may configure the codebook configuration selecting one of the codebooks: Type2 codebook, eType2 codebook, eType2 codebook for predicted PMI.

[0109] The NE may configure the value of N1 and N2 for the codebook by the codebook configuration. The NE may further configure the codebook subset restriction indicating a subset of beams for the UE to select for SD basis selection. The NE may further configure the codebook subset restriction indicating the maximum allowed average coefficient amplitudes for the beam combining matrix for each beam.

[0110] In some implementations, the NE may configure different Type2 codebook configuration for CSI report for CSI acquisition or data collection. In one example, a first type of Type2 codebook configuration is used for CSI acquisition and a second type of Type2 codebook configuration is used for data collection. In another example, a Type2 codebook with a first configuration (e.g., paramCombination = 1, 2, …, 8, and / or a first value of (O1, O2) ) is used for CSI acquisition and a Type2 codebook with a second configuration (e.g., paramCombination >8, and / or a second value of (O1, O2) ) is used for data collection, where the second configuration may require the UE to report more SD / FD / DD basis and / or more coefficients for the (compressed) beam combining matrix. In one example, whether a codebook configuration (e.g., paramCombination or (O1, O2) ) is for CSI acquisition or data collection may be predefined or reported by the UE capability or configured by the NE. In some other implementations, the NE may configure whether a CSI report is for CSI acquisition or data collection.

[0111] In some implementations, the NE and UE may determine the value of (O1, O2) based on the configured (N1, N2) . Thus, the (O1, O2) may be predefined for each configured (N1, N2) . In one example, the NE and UE may determine the (O1, O2) based on Table 1, where a subset of or all the rows may be applicable for the CSI report based on multiple CSI-RS resources and Type2 codebook. In another example, the NE and UE may determine the (O1, O2) based on Table 2, where a subset of or all the rows may be applicable for the CSI report based on multiple CSI-RS resources and Type2 codebook. In some other examples (O1, O2) may be values other than (4, 4) , (4, 1) , (8, 8) , or (8, 1) , where (O1, O2) may be integers larger than 0. The value of (O1, O2) may be the same or different for the same (N1, N2) for different types of codebooks.

[0112] Table 1: An example for the (O1, O2) configuration

[0113] *May be for data collection only

[0114] Table 2: Another example for the (O1, O2) configuration

[0115] Fig. 8 illustrates an example 800 of precoder selection using different codebooks for different number of layers, in accordance with aspects of this disclosure. As shown, the example  800 includes a first codebook 810 for a first or a second layer (N1 = 4, N2 = 4, O1 = 4, and O2 =4) , and a second codebook 820 for a third or a forth layer (N1 = 4, N2 = 4, O1 = 2, and O2 = 2) .

[0116] In some other implementations, the NE may configure the value of (O1, O2) based on the configured (N1, N2) by RRC signaling, e.g., CSI report configuration or codebook configuration, MAC CE or DCI. The NE may configure the codebook subset restrictions based on the configured (N1, N2, O1, O2) . The UE may report the CSI based on the configured codebook subset restriction.

[0117] The NE may configure the value of (O1, O2) for CSI report for different functionalities, e.g., CSI acquisition or data collection, by a common or separate configurations, e.g., common or separate RRC parameters. The NE may configure the value of (O1, O2) for CSI report for different types of codebooks, e.g., Type2 / eType2 codebook, by a common or separate configurations, e.g., common or separate RRC parameters.

[0118] In some other implementations, the value of (O1, O2) may be different for different number of layers. The value of (O1, O2) for each number of layers may be pre-defined or configured by the NE . In one example, (O1, O2) may be larger for small number of layers, e.g., 1 or 2 layers, and (O1, O2) may be smaller for greater number of layers, e.g., 3 or 4 layers. Then the codebook for precoder information report should be based on the number of layers indicated by the reported RI. The NE may configure a list of codebook subset restrictions, and each correspond to a pair of (O1, O2) . The UE may report the CSI based on the codebook subset restriction corresponding to the reported (O1, O2) .

[0119] Fig. 9 illustrates an example 900 for the per CSI-RS resource set SD basis selection, in accordance with aspects of this disclosure. As shown, a CSI-RS resource set includes two CSI-RS resources 910 and 920 (e.g., CSI-RS resource 1 and CSI-RS resource 2) from the configured codebook to apply to the multiple antenna ports 930 for codebook. The CSI-RS resource 1 is configured for a set of 32 antenna ports from the configured codebook and the CSI-RS resource 2 is configured for another set of 32 antenna ports from the configured codebook. The NE may configure the value of N1 and N2 for the Type2 codebook (for W1 calculation) based on the total number of antenna ports (e.g., 64 ports) across the CSI-RS resources 910 and 920 (e.g., CSI-RS resource 1 and CSI-RS resource 2) in the CSI-RS resource set.

[0120] In some other implementations, the UE may report the value of (O1, O2) . In one example, the UE may report the value of supported (O1, O2) for each number of ports by UE capability. In another example, the UE may report the value of (O1, O2) for a CSI report in the CSI report, e.g., CSI part 1 or CSI part 2 in the CSI report. The NE may configure a list of codebook subset restrictions, and each correspond to a pair of (O1, O2) . The UE may report the CSI based on the codebook subset restriction corresponding to the reported (O1, O2) .

[0121] The candidate values of (O1, O2) may be pre-defined or configured by the NE . The candidate values of (O1, O2) may be rank-specific. The candidate values of (O1, O2) for CSI report for different functionalities, e.g., CSI acquisition or data collection, may be the same or different. The candidate values of (O1, O2) for CSI report for different types of codebooks, e.g., Type2 / eType2 codebook, may be the same or different.

[0122] In an embodiment, the NE may configure the value of N1 and N2 for the Type2 codebook based on the total number of antenna ports across the CSI-RS resources in a CSI-RS resource set.

[0123] In some implementations, the NE configures the value of N1, N2 and codebook subset restriction based on total number of antenna ports across the K CSI-RS resources in a CSI-RS resource set for channel measurement, where If the NE configures the same number of ports for the K CSI-RS resources for channel measurement, the number of ports for each CSI-RS resource is 2N1N2 / K.

[0125] In some other implementations, the UE may report the SD basis index (es) for one or multiple subbands. The list of subbands may be configured by the NE or determined by the NE and / or UE based on the total number of subbands. Then the UE may report a list of SD basis  index (es) for a list of subband (s) based on the configured (N1, N2) and corresponding (O1, O2) and codebook subset restriction, indicating L beams for W1. Then the UE may report the information on the beam combining matrix W2 for each subband within the list of subband (s) and / or predicted slot (s) for each layer. The UE may report the beam combining matrixes for all the subbands within the list of subband (s) and / or predicted slot (s) for each layer by reporting a compressed beam combining matrix, a list of FD basis and a list of DD basis.

[0126] In some other implementations, the UE may report the SD basis index (es) for one or multiple predicted slot (s) . The list of predicted slot (s) may be configured by the NE or determined by the NE and / or UE based on the configured predicted slot (s) . Then the UE may report a list of SD basis index (es) for a list of subband (s) or wideband based on the configured (N1, N2) and corresponding (O1, O2) and codebook subset restriction, indicating L beams for W1. Then the UE may report the information on the beam combining matrix W2 for each subband within the list of subband (s) or each subband and / or predicted slot (s) within a list of predicted slot (s) for each layer. The UE may report the beam combining matrixes for all the subbands within the list of subband (s) or all the subbands and / or predicted slot (s) within a list of predicted slot (s) for each layer by reporting a compressed beam combining matrix, a list of FD basis and a list of DD basis.

[0132] In some implementations, the NE may configure the frequency domain and / or time domain granularity for the SD basis report commonly or separately for each polarization. The  NE may configure different granularities for CSI report for different functionalities, e.g., CSI acquisition or data collection.

[0133] In some implementations, the NE configures whether to report the SD basis per polarization or across polarizations as discussed above. The NE may transmit the configuration per CSI report. The UE may report the UE capability indicating the supported SD basis selection scheme. The UE may report the UE capability commonly or separately for CSI report for different functionalities, e.g., CSI acquisition or data collection.

[0134] In an embodiment, the NE may configure the value of N1 and N2 for the Type2 codebook based on the number of antenna ports for each CSI-RS resource in a CSI-RS resource set. The NE may configure the same number of ports for each CSI-RS resource. In some implementations, the UE may report common SD basis index (es) for all the CSI-RS resources. In some other implementations, the UE may report separate SD basis index (es) for each CSI-RS resource.

[0135] Fig. 10 illustrates an example 1000 for the per CSI-RS resource set SD basis selection, in accordance with aspects of this disclosure. As shown, there is a CSI-RS resource set that includes two CSI-RS resources 1010, 1020. Here, the NE configures the value of N1 and N2 for the Type2 codebook based on the number of antenna ports (e.g., 32 ports) for each CSI-RS resource 1010 or 1020 (e.g., CSI-RS resource 1 or CSI-RS resource 2) in the CSI-RS resource set. The two CSI-RS resource sets 1010 and 1020 respectively provide two CSI-RS resources (e.g., CSI-RS resource 1 and CSI-RS resource 2) from the configured codebook to apply to the multiple antenna ports 1030 for codebook to calculate the first W1 and the second W1. In this example, the CSI-RS resource 1 is configured for a set of 32 antenna ports from the configured codebook and the CSI-RS resource 2 is configured for another set of 32 antenna ports from the configured codebook. The NE may configure the value of N1 and N2 for the Type2 codebook (for W1 calculation) based on the total number of antenna ports (e.g., 64 ports) across the CSI-RS resources 1010 and 1020 (e.g., CSI-RS resource 1 and CSI-RS resource 2) in the CSI-RS resource set.

[0136] In some implementations, the NE configures the value of N1, N2 and codebook subset restriction based on total number of antenna ports across the K CSI-RS resources in a CSI-RS  resource set for channel measurement, where 2N1N2=P1. If the NE configures the number of ports for each CSI-RS resource as 2N1N2.

[0137] Compared to the options above, the difference is that the UE may report one common list (s) of SD basis index (es) for all the CSI-RS resources or separate list (s) of SD basis index (es) for each CSI-RS resource, and the UE may report the information on the beam combining matrix for each CSI-RS resource.

[0138] In some implementations, the NE configures the value of N1, N2 and codebook subset restriction based on total number of antenna ports per polarization across the K CSI-RS resources in a CSI-RS resource set for channel measurement, where N1N2=P1. If the NE configures the same number of ports for the K CSI-RS resources for channel measurement, the number of ports for each CSI-RS resource is N1N2.

[0139] Compared to embodiments above, the difference is that the UE may report one common list (s) of SD basis index (es) for all the CSI-RS resources for each polarization or separate list (s) of SD basis index (es) for each CSI-RS resource for each polarization, and the UE may report the information on the beam combining matrix for each CSI-RS resource.

[0140] In some implementations, the NE configures whether to report the SD basis per polarization or across polarizations. The NE may transmit the configuration per CSI report or per CSI-RS resource. The UE may report the UE capability indicating the supported SD basis selection scheme. The UE may report the UE capability commonly or separately for CSI report for different functionalities, e.g., CSI acquisition or data collection.

[0141] In an embodiment, the NE configures whether to report the SD basis per CSI-RS resource set or per CSI-RS resource . The NE may transmit the configuration per CSI report. In one example, the NE may provide the configuration by one RRC parameter, e.g., numberOfSdBasis, configured in the CSI report. In another example, the NE may provide the configuration by the number of ports configured in the codebook and the number of ports for each CSI-RS resource. If the number of ports configured in the codebook is the same as the total number of ports across the CSI-RS resources, the UE reports the SD basis per CSI-RS resource set. If the number of ports configured in the codebook is the same as the number of ports for each CSI-RS resource, the UE reports the SD basis per CSI-RS resource.

[0142] The UE may report the UE capability indicating whether it supports to report the SD basis or CSI based on the Type2 codebook per CSI-RS resource or per CSI-RS resource set. The UE may report the UE capability commonly or separately for CSI report for different functionalities, e.g., CSI acquisition or data collection.

[0143] In an embodiment, the NE and UE may determine a first minimum processing delay for the CSI report for CSI acquisition, a second minimum processing delay for the CSI report for data collection for monitoring and a third minimum processing delay for the CSI report for data collection for training. In some implementations, the first, second and third minimum processing delay may be the same. In some other implementations, the second and third minimum processing delay may be the same.

[0144] The NE and UE may determine the first, second and third minimum processing delay based on at least one of the following factors:

[0145] The number of CSI-RS resources in the CSI resource set for channel measurement;

[0146] The total number of antenna ports across the CSI-RS resources in the CSI-RS resource set for channel measurement;

[0147] The codebook configuration, e.g., number of reported beams, SD basis selection scheme, number of predicted slot (s) ;

[0148] UE capability on additional processing delay, where the UE may report a common or separate additional processing delay for the CSI report for different functionalities.

[0149] In some implementations, for CSI report for CSI acquisition, the NE and UE may determine the minimum processing delay as a first processing delay (Zm1, Zm1’ ) if the number of CSI-RS resources is below a first threshold or if the total number of antenna ports for the CSI-RS resources is below a second threshold; the NE and UE may determine the minimum processing delay as a second processing delay (Zm2, Zm2’ ) , otherwise. In one example, (Zm1, Zm1’ ) is based on (Z, Z’ ) for the corresponding codebook configuration (e.g., as defined in 3GPP TS 38.214, section 5.4) . (Zm2, Zm2’ ) is based on (xZm1+y, x’ Zm1’ +y’ ) , where (x, x’ , y, y’ ) may be reported by the UE capability or determined based on the number of CSI-RS resources or total number of antenna ports across the CSI-RS resources.

[0150] In some implementations, for CSI report for data collection, the NE and UE may determine the minimum processing delay as a third processing delay (Zm3, Zm3’ ) . In one example, the NE and UE may determine the third processing delay based on the first / second processing delay and additional processing for data collection reported by the UE capability or pre-defined.

[0151] In an embodiment, the NE and UE may determine a first number of CPUs for the CSI report for CSI acquisition, a second number of CPUs for the CSI report for data collection for monitoring and a third number of CPUs for the CSI report for data collection for training. The NE and UE may determine the first / second / third number of CPUs based on at least one of the following factors: (1) SD basis selection granularity, e.g., number of W1; (2) the number of CSI-RS resources in the CSI resource set for channel measurement; (3) the number of predicted CSI (s) ; (4) the number of measured CSIs for CSI prediction; or (5) UE capability on number of CPUs for one CSI measurement based on one W1. The UE may report a common or separate number of CPUs per CSI measurement for the CSI report for different functionalities.

[0152] In some implementations, the UE calculates the CSIs for the CSI-RS resource set one by one. Then the number of CPUs is 1. In some other implementations, the NE and UE may determine the number of CPUs as NW1*U*Npred, where NW1 is the number of W1, U is the number of CPUs for one CSI measurement based on one W1, which is predefined or reported by the UE capability or configured by the NE, and Npred is the number of predicted CSI (s) or measured CSIs for CSI prediction. In some implementations, the total number of CPUs is no more than the maximum number of CPUs, e.g., 8.

[0153] Fig. 11 illustrates a flowchart of a method 1100 of wireless communication at a UE. With reference to Fig. 1, 3-5, and 13, the method may be performed by the UE 102, the UE apparatus 1302, etc., which may include the memory 1326', 1306', 1316, and which may correspond to the entire UE 102 or the entire UE apparatus 1302, or a component (e.g., the CSI configuration component 140) of the UE 102 or the UE apparatus 1302, such as the wireless baseband processor 1326 and / or the application processor 1306.

[0192] Aspects, implementations, and / or use cases described herein may be implemented across many differing platform types, devices, systems, shapes, sizes, and packaging arrangements. For example, the aspects, implementations, and / or use cases may come about via integrated chip implementations and other non-module-component based devices, such as end-user devices, vehicles, communication devices, computing devices, industrial equipment, retail / purchasing devices, medical devices, artificial intelligence (AI) -enabled devices, machine learning (ML) -enabled devices, etc. The aspects, implementations, and / or use cases may range from chip-level or modular components to non-modular or non-chip-level implementations, and further to aggregate, distributed, or original equipment manufacturer (OEM) devices or systems incorporating one or more techniques described herein.

[0193] Devices incorporating the aspects and features described herein may also include additional components and features for the implementation and practice of the claimed and  described aspects and features. For example, transmission and reception of wireless signals necessarily includes a number of components for analog and digital purposes, such as hardware components, antennas, RF-chains, power amplifiers, modulators, buffers, processor (s) , interleavers, adders / summers, etc. Techniques described herein may be practiced in a wide variety of devices, chip-level components, systems, distributed arrangements, aggregated or disaggregated components, end-user devices, etc., of varying configurations.

[0194] The description herein is provided to enable a person skilled in the art to practice the various aspects described herein. Various modifications to these aspects will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art, and the generic principles defined herein may be applied to other aspects. Thus, the claims are not limited to the aspects described herein, but are to be interpreted in view of the full scope of the present disclosure consistent with the language of the claims.

[0195] Reference to an element in the singular does not mean “one and only one” unless specifically stated, but rather “one or more. ” Terms such as “if, ” “when, ” and “while” do not imply an immediate temporal relationship or reaction. That is, these phrases, e.g., “when, ” do not imply an immediate action in response to or during the occurrence of an action, but simply imply that if a condition is met then an action will occur, but without requiring a specific or immediate time constraint for the action to occur. The terms “may, ” “might, ” and “may, ” as used in this disclosure, often carry certain connotations. For example, “may” refers to a permissible feature that may or may not occur, “might” refers to a feature that probably occurs, and “may” refers to a capability (e.g., capable of) . The phrase “For example” often carries a similar connotation to “may” and, therefore, “may” is sometimes excluded from sentences that include “for example” or other similar phrases.

[0196] Unless specifically stated otherwise, the term “some” refers to one or more. Combinations such as “at least one of A, B, or C” or “one or more of A, B, or C” include any combination of A, B, and / or C, such as A and B, A and C, B and C, or A and B and C, and may include multiples of A, multiples of B, and / or multiples of C, or may include A only, B only, or C only. Sets may be interpreted as a set of elements where the elements number one or more.

[0197] Unless otherwise specifically indicated, ordinal terms such as “first” and “second” do not necessarily imply an order in time, sequence, numerical value, etc., but are used to distinguish between different instances of a term or phrase that follows each ordinal term.  Reference numbers, as used in the specification and figures, are sometimes cross-referenced among drawings to denote same or similar features. A feature that is exactly the same in multiple drawings may be labeled with the same reference number in the multiple drawings. A feature that is similar among the multiple drawings, but not exactly the same, may be labeled with reference numbers that have different leading numbers, but have one or more of the same trailing numbers (e.g., 206, 306, 406, etc., may refer to similar features in the drawings) . Sometimes an “X” is used to universally denote multiple variations of a feature. For instance, “X06” may universally refer to all reference numbers that end in “06” (e.g., 206, 306, 406, etc. ) .

[0198] It is noted that throughout this disclosure, a panel may mean that an antenna (port) group or an antenna (port) set. There may be more than one DL / UL beams associated with one panel. When one transmitting node (UE or the network entity) is performing a transmission via a panel, only one beam associated with the panel may be used to perform the transmission. For a transmitter comprising more than one panels, e.g., two panels, it may happen that two beams associated with the two panels respectively are used to perform a transmission.
