[0045] Furthermore, the steps of a method or algorithm described in connection with the embodiments disclosed herein may be embodied directly in hardware, in firmware, in a software module executed by processor modules 214 and 236, respectively, or in any practical combination thereof. The memory modules 216 and 234 may be realized as RAM memory, flash memory, ROM memory, EPROM memory, EEPROM memory, registers, a hard disk, a removable disk, a CD-ROM, or any other form of storage medium known in the art. In this regard, memory modules 216 and 234 may be coupled to the processor modules 210 and 230, respectively, such that the processors modules 210 and 230 can read information from, and write information to, memory modules 216 and 234, respectively. The memory modules 216 and 234 may also be integrated into their respective processor modules 210 and 230. In some embodiments, the memory modules 216 and 234 may each include a cache memory for storing temporary variables or other intermediate information during execution of instructions to be executed by processor modules 210 and 230, respectively. Memory modules 216 and 234 may also each include non-volatile memory for storing instructions to be executed by the processor modules 210 and 230, respectively.

[0046] The network communication module 218 generally represents the hardware, software, firmware, processing logic, and / or other components of the base station 202 that enable bi-directional communication between base station transceiver 210 and other network components and communication nodes configured to communication with the base station 202. For example, network communication module 218 may be configured to support internet or WiMAX traffic. In a typical deployment, without limitation, network communication module 218 provides an 802.3 Ethernet interface such that base station transceiver 210 can communicate with a conventional Ethernet based computer network. In this manner, the network communication module 218 may include a physical interface for connection to the computer network (e.g., Mobile Switching Center (MSC) ) . The terms “configured for, ” “configured to” and conjugations thereof, as used herein with respect to a specified operation or function, refer to a device, component, circuit,  structure, machine, signal, etc., that is physically constructed, programmed, formatted and / or arranged to perform the specified operation or function.

[0047] The Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) Model (referred to herein as, “open system interconnection model” ) is a conceptual and logical layout that defines network communication used by systems (e.g., wireless communication device, wireless communication node) open to interconnection and communication with other systems. The model is broken into seven subcomponents, or layers, each of which represents a conceptual collection of services provided to the layers above and below it. The OSI Model also defines a logical network and effectively describes computer packet transfer by using different layer protocols. The OSI Model may also be referred to as the seven-layer OSI Model or the seven-layer model. In some embodiments, a first layer may be a physical layer. In some embodiments, a second layer may be a Medium Access Control (MAC) layer. In some embodiments, a third layer may be a Radio Link Control (RLC) layer. In some embodiments, a fourth layer may be a Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) layer. In some embodiments, a fifth layer may be a Radio Resource Control (RRC) layer. In some embodiments, a sixth layer may be a Non Access Stratum (NAS) layer or an Internet Protocol (IP) layer, and the seventh layer being the other layer.

[0048] Various example embodiments of the present solution are described below with reference to the accompanying figures to enable a person of ordinary skill in the art to make and use the present solution. As would be apparent to those of ordinary skill in the art, after reading the present disclosure, various changes or modifications to the examples described herein can be made without departing from the scope of the present solution. Thus, the present solution is not limited to the example embodiments and applications described and illustrated herein. Additionally, the specific order or hierarchy of steps in the methods disclosed herein are merely example approaches. Based upon design preferences, the specific order or hierarchy of steps of the disclosed methods or processes can be re-arranged while remaining within the scope of the present solution. Thus, those of ordinary skill in the art will understand that the methods and techniques disclosed herein present various steps or acts in a sample order, and the present solution is not limited to the specific order or hierarchy presented unless expressly stated otherwise.

[0049] B. Systems and methods for AI / ML based positioning

[0050] AI / ML (Artificial intelligence / machine learning) is a prospering technology in current wireless communication system, e.g., 5G (The fifth generation) , 5G-A (5G-Advanced) and 6G (The sixth generation) . And AI / ML technology can improve the network performance with trained dataset. In a positioning session or process, a target UE (UE to be positioned) may receive the DL-PRS transmitted by TRP and / or transmit UL-SRS to gNB, UE and / or gNB will perform signal measurements and the location of the target UE can be calculated / estimated based on the measurement results. In this positioning session, if the AI / ML model is located at LMF side, UE / TRP will report the measurement results to LMF. However, if UE / TRP reports comprehensive measurement information, the overhead of the reporting will be large. This disclosure provides detailed enhancements on how to reduce the report overhead for AI / ML based positioning. From another perspective, for AI / ML model training process, UE / TRP may report dataset to LMF for LMF side model. And this disclosure also provides detailed enhancements on the dataset report procedure as well as its requirements for dataset report.

[0051] For AI / ML positioning, two representative sub-use cases are proposed (i.e., direct AI / ML positioning and AI / ML assisted positioning) . Referring now to FIG. 3, depicted is an example 300 of direct AI / ML positioning. In Direct AI / ML positioning, the AI / ML model output is the UE location. Referring now to FIG. 4, depicted is an example 400 for AI / ML assisted positioning. The AI / ML model output can be new measurement and / or enhancement of existing measurement, for example, LOS / NLOS identification, timing and / or angle of measurement, likelihood of measurement. The measurement information / channel measurement / channel measurement result (s) can be one or more of channel impulse response (CIR) or power delay profile (PDP) or delay profile (DP) . The CIR may include a list of measurements where each  measurement contains the information of: (a) delay, (b) power and (c) phase. The PDP may include a list of measurements where each measurement contains the information of: (a) delay and (b) power. The DP may include a list of measurements where each measurement contains the information of the delay.

[0052] In some embodiments, the measurement information / channel measurement /  (channel) measurement result (s) includes one or more of phase, power / RSRP / RSRPP, and path time (or path timing)  / sample index. In some embodiments, the measurement information / channel measurement / channel measurement result (s) is one or more of: timing information, paired timing information and power information, phase information with paired timing information and power information. In some embodiments, measurement information / channel measurement / channel measurement result (s) can be used for AI / ML model inference, and / or AI / ML model monitoring, and / or AI / ML model training. In some embodiments, wireless communication entity can be one or more of: UE, target device, PRU (positioning reference unit) , TRP (transmission-reception point) , TP (transmission point) , gNB, NG-RAN node. In some embodiments, Core network entity can be one or more of: location server, LMF (Location Management Function) , core network, NWDAF (Network Data Analytics Function) . In some embodiments, path time (s) is equivalent to path timing (s) . In some embodiments, timing information is equivalent to time information. In tome embodiments, the following phrases can replace each other: measurement information, and / or channel measurement information, and / or channel measurement result (s) , and / or channel measurement result (s) , and / or measurement (s) .

[0053] D. Embodiment #1: (RSRP Requirements Configuration and Reference Path / Sample Report)

[0054] For AI / ML based positioning, UE / TRP may report the channel measurement information to LMF for model training or model monitoring. For overhead reduction, UE / TRP may report part of the channel measurement information.

[0055] In general, UE / TRP can report the timing and / or power and / or phase information of multiple paths / samples to LMF, high-power paths / samples are decisive for positioning technology, while weak-power paths / samples are not, therefore the UE / TRP may not report the timing and / or power and / or phase information for those weak-power / RSRP paths / samples. In this manner, LMF can configure a first threshold to UE / TRP. The first threshold can be a RSRP / power threshold for reference path / sample selection in paths / samples channel measurement report. In response, UE / TRP can select the reference path / sample for channel measurement report. In some embodiments, the RSRP / power should be greater than the configured threshold. More specifically, UE / TRP may report one or more path timing (s)  / sample index (s) (and / or RSRP / power and / or phase) of the reference path / sample to LMF, and report other path timing / sample index (and / or RSRP / power and / or phase) of the other path (s)  / sample (s) in a differential manner to LMF or relative to the reference path / sample / time / index. The UE / TRP can report the information of reference path (s)  / sample (s) . The report may include the timing of the reference path and / or the index of the reference sample. The reference path (s)  / sample (s) can be different for path timing / sample index and RSRP / power.

[0056] Referring now to FIG. 5, depicted is the RSRP / power threshold for reference path / sample selection, the UE can select the reference path based on the configuration. One or more cases may be considered. In a first case multiple paths / samples satisfy the RSRP / power requirement (i.e., the power / RSRP of sample / path 2, 3, 7, 8, and 9 greater than the configured  threshold) , UE can select one of the sample / path as reference. In some embodiments, UE selects the first path / sample that meet the threshold (i.e., sample / path 2) as the reference path / sample. In some embodiments, UE selects the path / sample with highest RSRP / power (i.e., sample / path 3) as reference path / sample. In some embodiments, UE selects the first / second ( / or with certain limitation) path / sample as the reference path / sample for timing / sample report, and selects the path / sample with highest / secondary ( / or with certain limitation) RSRP / power value as reference path / sample for RSRP / power report.

[0057] In a second case, one path / sample satisfies the RSRP / power requirement. The one path / sample is selected as the reference path / sample. In a third case, there may be no path / sample which satisfies the RSRP / power requirement. UE can report an error cause to LMF (e.g., low RSRP / power) for the measurement report. In some embodiments, LMF can configure a second threshold for path / samples channel measurement report to UE / TRP. The threshold can be a RSRP / power threshold for channel measurement report. In response, UE / TRP can report the path / sample measurement result to LMF whose RSRP / power greater than and / or equal to the configured second threshold. In general, high-power / RSRP paths / samples are decisive for positioning technology, which carry more channel condition information. The configured second threshold can help UE / TRP filter 'useless path / samples' , further improve the positioning accuracy.

[0058] An example of UE / TRP report can be:

[0059] With the enhancement above, UE / TRP can report part of channel measurement result, further reduce the report overhead for AI / ML based positioning.

[0060] E. Embodiment #2: (Expected Path / Sample)

[0061] In AI / ML based positioning, UE / TRP can report the channel measurement information (e.g., CIR / PDP / DP, to LMF) . The channel measurement information may include at least one of the timing, power, and phase information of multiple paths / samples. For example, the number of paths / samples can be 128, 256, 512, etc., which results in larger overhead. To reduce the reporting overhead, UE / TRP can be configured to report part of the channel measurement information.

[0062] LMF can configure a first expected measurement report window (for path timing) and / or sample index / indices set to UE / TRP, which indicates the time / sample index that the target device and / or TRP is expected to report the channel measurement information (the configured time and / or sample window can be continuous or discontinuous) . The first set is configured to let UE / TRP report channel measurement with the expected time and / or sample index / indices (i.e., the first set is a mandatory report set) . In some implementations, the first set may account for the expected propagation time between a UE and a TRP.

[0063] In some embodiments, LMF can configure a second expected measurement report window (for path timing) and / or sample index (ex) set to UE / TRP. The second set is configured to let UE / TRP optionally report channel measurement with the expected time and / or sample index / indices (i.e., the second set is an optionally report set) . The configured measurement report  window (for path timing) and / or sample index / indices of the first and / or the second set (s) includes one or more of the following elements:

[0064] · One or more pairs of start time and end time

[0065] · Time interval between two start times and / or time interval between adjacent end time and start time

[0066] · One or more pairs of start sample index and end sample index

[0067] · Sample interval between two start sample indexes and / or sample interval between adjacent end sample index and start sample index

[0068] · The number of sample indexes

[0069] · One or more (sets / lists of) sample index (es)

[0070] Referring to FIG. 6, depicted is an example 600 of a configuration of the first set and second set. The UE / TRP should report the channel measurement information in sample 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, and 10, and optionally report the measurement information in index 12 and 13. The configured first and / or second sets are different with nr-DL-PRS-ExpectedRSTD / nr-DL-PRS-ExpectedRSTD-Uncertainty (for UE) and Expected Propagation Delay / Delay Uncertainty (for TRP) . (Note: nr-DL-PRS-ExpectedRSTD / nr-DL-PRS-ExpectedRSTD-Uncertainty indicates the RSTD value / uncertainty that the target device is expected to measure between this TRP and the assistance data reference TRP. )

[0071] In response, UE / TRP can report the channel measurement information with configured path window and / or sample index / indices for the first and / or the second expected  measurement report window (for path timing) and / or sample index / indices set and indicate whether the measurement is reported in the first / second configured measurement window.

[0072] Specifically, the encoding mode for each sample index configuration / report can be designed as follows:

[0073] · X bit encoding is used for the whole sampling points:

[0074] · If the configured sample indexes are 0-8, whole sampling points is 0-256, 8 bit encoding should be used, 0-8 is encoded as 00000000-00000100.

[0075] · X bit encoding is used for the configured sample indexes (window) :

[0076] · If the configured sample indexes are 0-8, whole sampling points is 0-256, 3 bit encoding should be used, 0-8 is encoded as 000-100. In this case, the sample starting index should also be associated

[0077] With the above enhancement, the overhead of UE / TRP’s measurement report can be reduced. Furthermore, with limited measurement report, some clutter and noise information outside the time window and / or sample indexes sets can be omitted, further improve the positioning performance.

[0078] F. Embodiment #3: (Measurement Report for Multiple / Single Instance / Sample)

[0079] In current LPP, UE can report the timing measurement result of multiple DL PRS resources or multiple DL PRS samples / instances. FIG. 7 depicts an example 700 of a PRS resource set, UE can measure different resources within the PRS sample and take the average for reporting. However, for AI / ML based positioning, the channel measurement result for different  samples, different PRS resources can be different because of the differences in the beam direction and / or channel environment.

[0080] Therefore, the channel measurement for AI / ML input can be performed with one PRS sample, one or more of the following methods can be enhanced:

[0081] · UE / TRP can report the channel measurement result. The measurement result is reported for each PRS / SRS sample. Specifically, each measurement result can be associated with a timestamp and / or an index. The timestamp may include the OFDM symbol index in a slot, the index specifies the NR symbol index within the NR slot number for channel measurement report, and / or the sampling period, and / or the number of sampling points (for the OFDM symbol) , and / or the starting sampling index, and / or the number of sampling points (for channel measurement report) , and / or the timing between the first sampling point / path timing and OFDM symbol starting timing. In some embodiments, the measurement result can be associated with an indicator, indicates whether the channel measurement report starts from the first sampling points (of a OFDM symbol) , or indicates whether the measurement information / measurement result (s) start from the beginning of a OFDM symbol.

[0082] FIG. 8 depicts an example 800 of a report. The sampling period is Ts / 2048, wherein Ts is the time duration of a OFDM symbol, the number of sampling points for the OFDM symbol is 2048, the starting sampling index is 6, the number of sampling points for channel measurement report is 256 (i.e., from sample 6 to 261) . The UE / TRP may report the capability whether the channel measurement can be performed using multiple PRS / SRS samples. In some embodiments, the measurement can be performed for one PRS / SRS resource. UE / TRP can report the average value or maximum value or minimum value of the channel measurement result of  different PRS / SRS samples. More specifically, the average value can be performed for each path and / or each sample index. Each channel measurement report can be associated with the PRS / SRS resource ID and / or the number of PRS / SRS samples / instances. In some embodiments, UE / TRP can report two capabilities indicating whether the UE / TRP can support the measurement of multiple PRS / SRS samples, wherein one capability is reported for AI / ML positioning (e.g., CIR / PDP / DP) , another capability is reported for current legacy positioning methods.

[0083] In some embodiments, LMF can configure the reporting indicator to UE / TRP, which indicates the UE / TRP should report the channel measurement result using one PRS / SRS sample or multiple PRS / SRS samples. In some embodiments, LMF can configure the number of PRS / SRS samples to UE / TRP (for channel measurement report) . In some embodiments, LMF can configure the reporting format indicator to UE / TRP, wherein 1 bit indicator can be included, indicates the UE / TRP should report the channel measurement information in path-based or in sample-based format. The UE / TRP can report the indicator to LMF, indicates the channel measurement result is reported in path-based or in sample-based format. For example, 1 indicates the report is sample-based / path-based, 0 indicates the report in path-based / sample-based. For sample-based measurements, the timing information is an integer multiple of sampling periods, and for path-based measurements, the timing information is according to the detected path timing and may not be an integer multiple of sampling periods

[0084] With this enhancement, UE / TRP can report one channel measurement result for different PRS / SRS samples / instances, further reduce the report overhead for AI / ML based positioning.

[0085] G. Embodiment #4: (Only Report Samples / Paths with Significant Differences)

[0086] In AI / ML based positioning process, UE / TRP may be requested to report channel measurement result in different time. LMF can configure the time information to UE / TRP indicating the time that the channel measurement should be performed / reported. The time information includes number of time that channel measurement results should be performed / reported, and / or the time that channel measurement results should be performed / reported, which can be configured with SFN initialization time, and / or frame number, and / or subframe number, and / or slot number and / or OFDM symbol. LMF can indicate one configured time as reference time.

[0087] In some cases, the channel measurement results of different times are similar to each other when the channel environment is stable or the time difference between two measurements is close enough. Therefore, to reduce report overhead, UE / TRP can omit some similar report to LMF. LMF can configure the threshold (s) for RSRP / power measurement of channel measurement report. The configured threshold is designed for the RSRP / power value difference of two time (slots) . The threshold (s) for RSRP / RSRPP / power measurement can be associate with a (reference) time. Specifically, the threshold (s) information includes one or more of the following elements:

[0088] · RSRP threshold value and / or corresponding resolution

[0089] · Absolute RSRP threshold and / or absolute phase threshold

[0090] · Applicable time duration and / or starting time and / or end time and / or periodicity

[0091] · Applicable DL PRS / UL SRS resource (s) and / or DL PRS / UL SRS resource set (s) and / or PFL (s)

[0092] In response, UE / TRP reports the channel measurement result with one or more of the following information:

[0093] · Reference time for channel measurement report.

[0094] · Complete channel measurement result (i.e., RSRP / power and / or phase information of all samples, in configured reference time.

[0095] · Channel measurement result of other configured time compared to the reference time for each sample.

[0096] · Channel measurement result of other configured time compared to the reference time in a sample set. The RSRP / power difference (of the sample index in the sample set) between current time and reference time lager than or equal to the configured RSRSP threshold. More specifically, the reported RSRP / power value of these samples is a difference between the reported time and reference time.

[0097] FIG. 9 depicts an example 900 of a complete channel measurement. The UE / TRP can report the complete channel measurement of time T1, and only report the measurement result in sample indexes 1, 8 and 9 for time T2. The RSRP difference of these samples is larger than a configured RSRP threshold. In some embodiments, the UE / TRP report the channel measurement information of a reference TRP / UE the channel measurement information can include time information, phase information, Power / RSRP / RSRPP of each TRP / UE.

[0098] The time information can be reported in as the relative timing difference between this neighbor TRP and the reference TRP. In some embodiments, the time information can be sample indices. In some embodiments, the phase information can be associated with each time information. In some embodiments, the phase information of each time / sample index can be a  differential value. The power / RSRP / RSRPP information can be associated with each time information. In some embodiments, the phase / power / RSRP / RSRPP information of each sample index / time can be the phase / power / RSRP / RSRPP value relative to the phase / power / RSRP / RSRPP of the reference TRP / UE in the same sample index / time.

[0099] In some embodiments, LMF can configure the phase / power / RSRP / RSRPP threshold associated with a reference TRP / UE. If the phase / power / RSRP / RSRPP difference of the neighbor / measurement TRP / UE and reference TRP / UE (at the same path time / sample index) equal to and / or less than and / or higher than the configured phase / power / RSRP / RSRPP threshold, UE / TRP will report the differential value (at that path time / sample index) . Otherwise, the phase / power / RSRP / RSRPP value of that path time / sample index will not be reported.

[0100] For example, the phase of sample index 1 for the reference TRP is 45.0 degree, the phase of sample index 1 for the neighbor / measurement TRP is 45.6 degree. Then the reported phase value should be 0.6 degree.

[0101] The "reference TRP" in some embodiments may or may not be the same as the "assistance data reference" TRP provided by nr-DL-PRS-ReferenceInfo in IE NR-DL-PRS-AssistanceData. With this enhancement, UE / TRP may not report the complete measurement results for several select times, in this way, the overhead of AI / ML based positioning report can be reduced.

[0102] H. Embodiment #5: (LOS / NLOS Indicator Report For Sample-Based Measurement Report) In current positioning process, the measurement report of DL-TDOA, UL-TDOA includes the LOS / NLOS indicator, which indicates the likelihood of a Line-of-Sight propagation path from the source to the receiver. For channel measurement information, e.g., CIR / PDP / DP,  also includes the propagation information, therefore, it is reasonable to support the reporting of LOS / NLOS information for the measurement of CIR / PDP / DP. UE / TRP can report the LOS / NLOS information of each path timing and / or each sample for channel measurement. However, in general, high-power / RSRP paths / samples are decisive for positioning technology, which carry more channel condition information, while weak-power / RSRP paths / samples carry less channel information, thus, the UE / TRP may not report the LOS / NLOS information for those weak-power / RSRP paths / samples. Therefore, UE / TRP can report the LOS / NLOS information of several selected paths / samples.

[0103] Specifically, LMF can request UE / TRP to report the LOS / NLOS information for channel measurement, details are as follows:

[0104] · LMF configures one or more sample index (es) or sample index set (s) or sample index list (s) for LOS / NLOS information report. In response, UE / TRP reports the LOS / NLOS information for the sample index (s) in the configured sample index (es) or sample index set(s) .

[0105] · LMF configures one or more time window (s) for LOS / NLOS information report. In response, UE / TRP reports the LOS / NLOS information for the paths / samples located within the time window (s) . Specifically, the time window (s) configured for UE / TRP can be associated with one or more TRP (s)  / UE (s) . The time window (s) can be defined with one or more of:

[0106] · The start of the time window, which is indicated by a combination of system frame number, slot offset and symbol index with respect to the SFN initialization time

[0107] · The duration of the time window, which is given by a number of consecutive  slots / symbols

[0108] · The periodicity of the time window

[0109] · LMF configures the RSRP / power threshold for LOS / NLOS information report. In response, UE / TRP reports the LOS / NLOS information for the sample index (s)  / paths whose RSRP / power value is greater than or equal to the configured RSRP / power threshold.

[0110] Specifically, the LOS / NLOS information includes a soft value and / or a hard value for the likelihood of a Line-of-Sight (LOS) propagation path. The LOS / NLOS information is associated with a channel measurement sample (index) or a path (time) .

[0111] An example of UE / TRP report can be:

[0112] I. Embodiment #6: (Data Set Attribute Report)

[0113] For AI / ML positioning, if the model is at LMF side, UE / TRP reports {data, (label) } during model training, and LMF trains the model based on the reported data; and for model inference, UE / TRP reports measurement data to LMF, and LMF performs inference based on the reported data. However, if the reported data sets are collected from different channel environment, or with different data attribute, the data sets’ quality may vary. To label the  attributes of different datasets, UE / TRP can report one or more of the following elements associated with a reported data and / or data set (s) :

[0119] · The value range / class can be configured by LMF, e.g., class A corresponding to SNR>20dB, class B corresponding to 10<SNR≤20dB, etc.

[0120] · An indicator indicates whether the data (set) meets a configured requirement

[0121] · Wherein the configured requirement can be a SNR / SINR / RSRP / RSRQ threshold, and / or the number of paths / samples meets the requirement larger than or equal to a configured value.

[0122] · An area ID of CIR / PDP / DP is measured or channel measurement is performed.

[0123] · Wherein the area ID is configured by LMF, which includes a list of PhysCellID and / or CellGlobalID and / or dl-PRS-ID and / or TRP ID.

[0130] · Path timing with L max RSRP, path timing of L earliest path with RSRP larger than a threshold, wherein L and / or the threshold is configured by LMF.

[0131] · Beam index of the target device receive beam used for channel measurement report.

[0132] · Beam and / or TEG group indication, the receive beam and / or TEG with certain beam and / or index range can be divided in to different groups.

[0135] J. Embodiment #7: (AI / ML Assisted Inference Output Report)

[0136] For AI / ML assisted positioning, the output of AI / ML model can be timing, angle, or LOS / NLOS indicator, to reduce the report overhead and improve positioning accuracy, the following report can be enhanced:

[0137] · UE / TRP reports the timing / power information in a differential manner:

[0138] · UE / TRP can report the timing information of the reference resource and / or the reference resource identifier to LMF, the timing information can be RSTD, UE Rx-Tx time difference, gNB Rx-Tx time difference, RTOA, wherein RSTD indicates relative timing difference between this neighbor / measurement TRP and the PRS reference TRP. This timing information can be the path timing of the reference resource. Specifically, UE can select the first path as reference path. And In some embodiments, UE / TRP can report the additional measurement for RSTD, UE Rx-Tx time difference, gNB Rx-Tx time difference, RTOA, relative to the detected path timing of the reference resource. In some embodiments, each timing measurement result can be associated with an indicator, which indicates whether the timing is correspond to a virtual path. More specifically, the indicator includes a soft value and / or a hard value for the likelihood of a virtual path.

[0139] · UE can report the RSRP / RSRPP to LMF, which indicates NR DL-PRS reference signal received power (DL-PRS RSRP) measurement. This RSRP / RSRPP information can be the reference RSRP / RSRPP measurement. Specifically, UE can select the first path or path with largest RSRP / power as reference RSRP / RSRPP measurement. And In some embodiments, UE can report the additional measurement for RSRP / RSRPP relative to the reference RSRP / RSRPP.

[0140] · Support finger timing report granularity.

[0141] · LMF may configure one or more granularities / resolutions for UE / TRP timing measurement report. The granularity can be used for legacy measurement report, and / or for AI / ML model inference report, and / or for virtual path timing inferenced by AI / ML  model. In response, UE / TRP can report the granularity / resolution of timing measurement report. In some embodiments, UE / TRP can report the capability indicating whether multiple timing report granularities / resolutions can be supported.

[0164] L. Embodiment #9: (Channel Measurement Report for Different UE / TRP)

[0165] In AI / ML based positioning process, UE / TRP reports the channel measurement information of one or multiple TRPs / UEs. However, the report format and / or the report reference time can be different for different reporting entities. This embodiment provides several methods for channel measurement reporting from multiple TRPs / UEs.

[0166] In a positioning scenario, the distances between different TRPs and a target UE is different, therefore, from UE’s view, the channel measurement starting points are different for various TRP. As shown in the following figure, the starting time of transmitters (TRPs) 1, 2 and 3 are T1 T2, T3 respectively. UE can report the channel measurement start timing difference between different transmitters, similar report format can also be applied to TRP. i.e., UE / TRP reports the channel measurement start timing / first path timing / sample index difference of different TRPs / UEs. More specifically, UE / TRP reports the ID of reference TRP / UE, as well as  the PRS / SRS resource (set) ID, (wherein the reference TRP / UE can be the TRP / UE whose channel measurement starting timing / first path timing is the earliest for the receiver UE / TRP) and / or reports the timing / sample index difference between the channel measurement starting time / first path timing of other TRPs / UEs and the reference TRP / UE. The timing difference can be the absolute path timing, or in units of sampling period or samples’ interval. FIG. 11 depicts an example 1100 of channel measurement from transmitters. The timing difference can be reported in time duration (i.e., {T2-T1, T3-T1} or in number of samples (i.e., 3 samples, 6 samples.

[0167] In some embodiments, UE / TRP reports the time difference between the channel measurement starting time / sampling symbol timing / first sampling point / first path timing and the reference time (for each TRP ID / UE ID) . The timing difference can be the absolute timing, or in units of sampling period or samples’ interval. FIGs. 12A –12B depicts an example 1200 and 1250 of another channel measurement from the transmitters. The timing difference can be reported in time duration (i.e., {T0-T1, T0-T2, T0-T3} or in number of samples.

[0168] In some cases, UE / TRP performs channel measurement on a OFDM symbol that carries PRS / SRS, however, UE / TRP may report several part of the measured samples, as shown in FIG. 13, a OFDM symbol is sampled into 2048 points, while only 256 samples (sample 6 to sample 261) are reported (to LMF) for model training and / or model inference.

[0169] For this case, the OFDM sampling starting point, reports’ starting point can be different for different transmitters, as shown in FIG. 14 and FIG. 15. A selected window should be defined for each receiver, while the samples / path timings should be reported with respect to the selected window.

[0170] · UE / TRP reports the starting time and / or end time and / or duration of a window. The starting time of the window can be the time of the (earliest) first path / first sample among all transmitters (within a slot, or a subframe or a OFDM symbol) . In some embodiments, the starting time of the window can be the starting time of (earliest) channel measurement among all transmitters. And UE / TRP reports the difference between the first sampling / path time and the starting time of a window for each TRP / UE. wherein the difference can be the absolute timing, or in units of sampling period or samples' interval.

[0177] · UE reports channel measurement information with TUE-TX to LMF, TUE-TX is the transmit timing of the UE of uplink subframe #j that is closest in time to the subframe #i received from the TP.

[0178] If the output of AI / ML assisted model is UE / gNB Rx-Tx time difference, the model input of gNB side model includes channel measurement information with TgNB-TX, similarly, the model input of UE side model includes channel measurement information with TUE-TX.

[0194] While various embodiments of the present solution have been described above, it should be understood that they have been presented by way of example only, and not by way of limitation. Likewise, the various diagrams may depict an example architectural or configuration, which are provided to enable persons of ordinary skill in the art to understand example features and functions of the present solution. Such persons would understand, however, that the solution is not restricted to the illustrated example architectures or configurations but can be implemented using a variety of alternative architectures and configurations. Additionally, as would be understood by persons of ordinary skill in the art, one or more features of one embodiment can be combined with one or more features of another embodiment described herein. Thus, the breadth and scope of the present disclosure should not be limited by any of the above-described illustrative embodiments.

[0195] It is also understood that any reference to an element herein using a designation such as "first, " "second, " and so forth does not generally limit the quantity or order of those elements. Rather, these designations can be used herein as a convenient means of distinguishing between two or more elements or instances of an element. Thus, a reference to first and second elements does not mean that only two elements can be employed, or that the first element must precede the second element in some manner.

[0196] Additionally, a person having ordinary skill in the art would understand that information and signals can be represented using any of a variety of different technologies and techniques. For example, data, instructions, commands, information, signals, bits and symbols, for example, which may be referenced in the above description can be represented by voltages, currents, electromagnetic waves, magnetic fields or particles, optical fields or particles, or any combination thereof.

[0197] A person of ordinary skill in the art would further appreciate that any of the various illustrative logical blocks, modules, processors, means, circuits, methods and functions described in connection with the aspects disclosed herein can be implemented by electronic hardware (e.g., a digital implementation, an analog implementation, or a combination of the two) , firmware, various forms of program or design code incorporating instructions (which can be referred to herein, for convenience, as "software" or a "software module) , or any combination of these techniques. To clearly illustrate this interchangeability of hardware, firmware and software, various illustrative components, blocks, modules, circuits, and steps have been described above generally in terms of their functionality. Whether such functionality is implemented as hardware, firmware or software, or a combination of these techniques, depends upon the particular application and design constraints imposed on the overall system. Skilled artisans can implement the described functionality in various ways for each particular application, but such implementation decisions do not cause a departure from the scope of the present disclosure.

[0198] Furthermore, a person of ordinary skill in the art would understand that various illustrative logical blocks, modules, devices, components and circuits described herein can be implemented within or performed by an integrated circuit (IC) that can include a general-purpose processor, a digital signal processor (DSP) , an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) , a field programmable gate array (FPGA) or other programmable logic device, or any combination thereof. The logical blocks, modules, and circuits can further include antennas and / or transceivers to communicate with various components within the network or within the device. A general-purpose processor can be a microprocessor, but in the alternative, the processor can be any conventional processor, controller, or state machine. A processor can also be implemented as a combination of computing devices, e.g., a combination of a DSP and a microprocessor, a  plurality of microprocessors, one or more microprocessors in conjunction with a DSP core, or any other suitable configuration to perform the functions described herein.

[0199] If implemented in software, the functions can be stored as one or more instructions or code on a computer-readable medium. Thus, the steps of a method or algorithm disclosed herein can be implemented as software stored on a computer-readable medium. Computer-readable media includes both computer storage media and communication media including any medium that can be enabled to transfer a computer program or code from one place to another. A storage media can be any available media that can be accessed by a computer. By way of example, and not limitation, such computer-readable media can include RAM, ROM, EEPROM, CD-ROM or other optical disk storage, magnetic disk storage or other magnetic storage devices, or any other medium that can be used to store desired program code in the form of instructions or data structures and that can be accessed by a computer.

[0200] In this document, the term "module" as used herein, refers to software, firmware, hardware, and any combination of these elements for performing the associated functions described herein. Additionally, for purpose of discussion, the various modules are described as discrete modules; however, as would be apparent to one of ordinary skill in the art, two or more modules may be combined to form a single module that performs the associated functions according to embodiments of the present solution.

[0201] Additionally, memory or other storage, as well as communication components, may be employed in embodiments of the present solution. It will be appreciated that, for clarity purposes, the above description has described embodiments of the present solution with reference to different functional units and processors. However, it will be apparent that any suitable distribution of functionality between different functional units, processing logic elements or domains may be used without detracting from the present solution. For example, functionality illustrated to be performed by separate processing logic elements, or controllers, may be performed by the same processing logic element, or controller. Hence, references to specific functional units are only references to a suitable means for providing the described functionality, rather than indicative of a strict logical or physical structure or organization.

[0202] Various modifications to the embodiments described in this disclosure will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art, and the general principles defined herein can be applied to other embodiments without departing from the scope of this disclosure. Thus, the disclosure is not intended to be limited to the embodiments shown herein but is to be accorded the widest scope consistent with the novel features and principles disclosed herein, as recited in the claims below.
