Description

NETWORK ACCESS METHOD, APPARATUS, AND COMPUTER-READABLE MEDIUMTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] This disclosure is generally related to wireless communication, and more particularly to random access process for wireless communication.BACKGROUND

[0002] When a terminal device wants to be connected to a base station, UE (User equipment) has to perform a RACH, random access procedure, such as Contention-Based Random Access (CBRA) or Contention Free Random Access (CFRA) . In a contention based random access procedure, UE selects a preamble randomly from a candidate pool of preambles, which are shared with another UE. The base station (BS) uses a contention resolution mechanism to handle this type access requests. CBRA is also known as four-step RACH procedure. In CFRA, the preamble is allocated by the base stations and such preambles are known as a dedicated random access preamble. The dedicated preamble is provided to UE either via RRC signaling or a PHY layer signaling (such as the DCI on the PDCCH) .

[0003] Subband Full Duplex (SBFD) is a new duplex mode with the TDD carrier split into sub-bands to enable simultaneous transmission and reception in the same slots. Together with cross-subband scheduling, the gNB, a base station, could provide simultaneous guarantee of large uplink throughput and low latency to meet the requirements of critical vertical applications, and with flexible frame structure, the gNB could work with legacy terminals. SBFD can provide user-level service capability customization, so to flexibly fulfill various B2B and B2C applications requirements. There is no in-depth development for the RACH process when the SBFD technologies is adopted.SUMMARY

[0017] FIGS. 8A-8C together illustrate a block diagram of an exemplary wireless communication system.DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0018] There are different types of RACH procedures, including competition based random access (CBRA) procedure and competition free random access (CFRA) procedure. In CBRA, a UE transmits a preamble in a PRACH occasion (RO) , which is a time-frequency domain resource configured for PRACH (physical random access channel) transmission, according to the configuration of PRACH transmission and an SSB (Synchronization Signal Block) it selected. In this step, the UE can try to receive the SSB from the gNB (or a base station) and determine the best or suitable SSB, for example, an SSB having a highest RSRP (Reference Signal Received Power) or having a RSRP value higher than a predefined threshold. Alternatively, any SSB can be selected if no SSB with a RSRP value higher than the predefined threshold.

[0019] Then, a RO used for transmitting the PRACH will be determined according to the relationship between the SSB and RO. Based on the relationship, the gNB can determine the SSB selected by the UE. The same beam of the determined SSB can used for transmitting subsequent DL transmissions, including, the msg 2, which can also be called as RAR, random access response, including RAR PDCCH (Physical Downlink Control Channel) and RAR  PDSCH (Physical Data Shared Channel) , and the msg 4, including a PDSCH with UE contention resolution identity and the corresponding PDCCH. According to the current RACH procedure, an RAR is to be transmitted in response to the reception of the PRACH transmission. The UE monitors the RAR PDCCH within an RAR window. The RAR window starts at the first symbol of the earliest CORESET (control resource set) , about which the UE is configured to receive PDCCH for Type1-PDCCH CSS set. The RAR window includes at least a predefined number of symbols after the last symbol of the PRACH occasion corresponding to the PRACH transmission.

[0020] For a CFRA procedure, a gNB indicates or configures a specific preamble and SSB to be selected for perform the CFRA procedure. A PRACH mask index may also be indicated if an SSB is associated with more than one ROs to further indicate the selected RO. As the PRACH resource is dedicated for a UE, therefore, there is no conflict between UEs for the PRACH transmission.

[0021] According to the time and frequency domain resource configuration, resource for PRACH transmission, i.e., a RO, can be determined. Whether a RO is a valid RO can be determined according to the following rules, in which the valid RO determined according to the following existing rules can be called as legacy valid RO in the following embodiments.

[0022] -If a UE is provided cell specific semi-static frame structure configuration (e.g., via tdd-UL-DL-ConfigurationCommon) , a PRACH occasion in a PRACH slot is valid if -it is within UL symbols, or

[0023] -it does not precede a SS / PBCH block in the PRACH slot and starts at least Ngap symbols after a last downlink symbol and at least Ngap symbols after a last SS / PBCH block symbol, where Ngap is provided in Table 1. For preamble format B4, Ngap=0.

[0024] Table 1

[0025] There can be different events for triggering the CFRA procedure. The PRACH configuration / indication signaling are different for different events. Table 2 is a summary of the trigger events and the corresponding PRACH configuration / indication.

[0026] Table 2

[0027] In a wireless communication system, the time domain resource is split between the downlink and uplink in a time division duplex (TDD) manner. Allocation of a limited time duration for the uplink in TDD would result in reduced coverage and increased latency and reduced capacity. As a possible enhancement on this limitation of the conventional TDD operation, it would be worth studying the feasibility of allowing the simultaneous existence of downlink and uplink, that is, full duplex, or more specifically, subband non-overlapping full duplex (SBFD) at the gNB side within a conventional TDD band. Then, for some symbols configured as semi-static downlink resource or flexible resource, a part of frequency resource can be configured as UL (uplink) resource, such as a UL subband. The downlink or flexible symbols configured with UL subband can be called as SBFD symbols. For some symbols configured as semi-static uplink resource or flexible resource, a part of frequency resource can be configured as DL (downlink) resource, such as a DL subband. The uplink or flexible symbols configured with DL subband can also be called as SBFD symbols. In either way, there will be both of uplink and downlink in different frequency domain resource of a same time domain resource. As an example shown in FIG. 1, the frame structure is configured as DDDFU, where D stands for downlink symbols, F stands for uplink symbols, and U stands for uplink symbols. Additionally or alternatively, some frequency domain resource of the part of downlink resource and / or flexible resource (such as slot 1~3) are configured as UL subband.

[0028] A UL subband in an SBFD symbols can be used for performing uplink transmission for a UE that has SBFD capability (or full duplex capability) , or an SBFD compatible UE. In some examples, the intersection between UL subband and initial UL BWP in SBFD symbols can be defined as UL usable PRBs (physical resource blocks) for SBFD random access operation. That is, the uplink transmission during RACH procedure can be transmitted within the UL usable PRBs. However for the UEs that do not have the SBFD capability, it can only perform UL transmission by using a conventional UL symbol or flexible symbol. Uplink  transmission during random access procedure includes a PRACH signal, msg3 PUSCH (including, initial transmission and retransmission) and HARQ-ACK for msg4 PDSCH, and so on. In a full-duplex scenario, SBFD symbols and conventional UL symbols or flexible symbols may extend total uplink transmission time domain resource, so that available random access resources can be increased or the coverage of a random access signal can be enhanced.

[0029] In some examples, the timing of UL transmissions within the UL subband / UL usable PRBs is different from the timing of UL transmissions within the UL BWP. Therefore, a UE should obtain two UL transmission timings for subsequent uplink transmissions in the UL subband / UL usable PRBs, respectively. For example, a first UL transmission timing and a second UL transmission timing are defined for the UL BWP and UL subband / UL usable PRBs, respectively. In some examples, the first UL transmission timing can be defined as a first time interval earlier than the DL reception timing. The second UL transmission timing can be defined as a second time interval earlier than the DL reception timing or the first UL transmission timing. Alternatively, the second UL transmission timing can be defined as a time interval later than the DL reception timing or the first UL transmission timing. In some examples, there is a fixed / configured time offset between two UL transmission timings, and the fixed / configured time offset can be indicated in at least one of the following signaling, MIB, SIB1, random access response (RAR) or msg4.

[0030] In some examples, the PRACH transmission is transmitted according to the DL reception timing. The RAR will indicate a first timing advance (TA) value for the UL BWP, and the first UL transmission timing can be determined according to the transmission timing of the PRACH transmission (the DL reception timing) and the indicated first timing advance value. Then the second UL transmission timing can be calculated according to the first UL transmission timing and the fixed time offset. Alternatively, the RAR indicates a second timing advance value for the UL subband / UL usable PRBs, and then the second UL transmission timing can be determined according to the transmission timing of the PRACH transmission (the DL reception timing) and the indicated second timing advance value. The first UL transmission can be calculated according to the second UL transmission timing and  the fixed / configured time offset.

[0031] In some examples, the PRACH transmission is transmitted according to the DL reception timing and a third time interval. That is, the transmission timing of the PRACH is determined by a third time interval earlier / later than the DL reception timing. The RAR indicates a third timing advance value for the UL BWP, and the first UL transmission timing can be determined according to the transmission timing of the PRACH transmission (the DL reception timing) and the indicated third timing advance value. The second UL transmission timing can be calculated according to the first UL transmission timing and the fixed time offset. Alternatively, the RAR indicates a forth timing advance value for the UL subband / UL usable PRBs, and then the second UL transmission timing can be determined according to the transmission timing of the PRACH transmission (the DL reception timing) and the indicated forth timing advance value. The first UL transmission can be calculated according to the second UL transmission timing and the fixed / configured time offset.

[0032] In some examples, the transmission timing of the PRACH is determined according to the resource type for transmitting the PRACH. For example, the transmission timing of the PRACH is determined as the DL reception timing if the PRACH is transmitted in the UL BWP (or a non-SBFD symbols) . Otherwise, the transmission timing of the PRACH is determined as a time interval before or after the DL reception timing if the PRACH is transmitted in the SBFD symbols (i.e., in the UL subband / UL usable PRBs) .

[0033] In some examples, the TA value indicated in the RAR is used for determining the UL transmission timing of msg3. Then, if the msg3 PUSCH is scheduled in the UL BWP (or a non-SBFD symbols) , the indicated TA value is used for determining the UL transmission timing of UL transmission in the UL BWP. Otherwise, if the msg3 PUSCH is scheduled in the SBFD symbols (i.e., in the UL subband / UL usable PRBs) , the indicated TA value is used for determining the UL transmission timing of UL transmission in the UL subband / UL usable PRBs.

[0034] In some examples, one of the two UL transmission timing is indicated via an RAR, and another one is indicated in msg4. In some examples, both of the two UL transmission  timing is indicated via an RAR.

[0035] Initial Determination of RACH Modes by Base Station

[0036] This disclosure first addresses examples for configuring and enabling a UE to perform RACH on SBFD resources. For example, the RACH procedure can be triggered by a PDCCH order and the RACH mode is determined by the gNB. FIG. 2 shows a flow chart to configured or enable a device to perform RACH with the option to use the SBFD resource. In S110, a device, such as a user equipment or a base station, obtains configuration or signaling for determining a mode of a RACH operation, wherein the mode of the RACH operation comprises a full duplex RACH operation or a non-full duplex RACH operation. In S120, the mode of the RACH operation is determined according to the configuration or signaling. There can be different consideration according to the configuration or signaling to determine the mode to be used for the RACH operation. The details are discussed in different sections of this disclosure.

[0037] In some implementations, a PDCCH order is a DCI format (such as a DCI format 1-0) with CRC scrambled by a C-RNTI (Cell Radio Network Temporary Identifier) by setting the value of FDRA (Frequency Domain Resource Assignment) field in the DCI format as all ones. The remaining fields in the DCI format include the Random Access Preamble index (which is used for indicating a preamble index) , the UL / SUL indicator (which is used for indicating a carrier) , the SS / PBCH block index (which is used for indicating a SSB index) , that PRACH mask index (which is used for indicating at least a part of RO) , the Cell indicator (which is used for indicating a cell) , and the PRACH retransmission indicator (which is used to indicated initial transmission of a PRACH or a retransmission of the PRACH) , and so on. A UE, which receives the PDCCH order, transmits the PRACH by using the preamble indicated by the “Random Access Preamble index” field. The PRACH is to be transmitted in a RO associated with the SSB indicated by the “SS / PBCH block index” field and on a carrier indicated by the “UL / SUL indicator” field.

[0038] In some implementations, the RACH procedure includes two RACH modes. One is the SBFD RACH mode, and the other one is the non-SBFD RACH mode. For the SBFD  RACH mode, the configured RO resources within the SBFD symbols that meet some specific conditions can be considered as a valid RO for PRACH transmission. The conditions may include that the frequency domain resource of the configured RO is within the UL subband and / or the configured RO does not proceed a SS / PBCH block in the PRACH slot and starts at least Ngap symbols after a last downlink symbol without SBFD configuration and at least Ngap symbols after a last SS / PBCH block symbol. Additionally and optionally, the configured RO resource within the SBFD symbols will be considered as an invalid RO and cannot be used for PRACH transmission under the non-SBFD RACH mode. If a UE is a SBFD capable UE, for example, when the UE supports to perform RACH procedure by using the SBFD resource, the RACH mode should be determined to be used firstly, according to some examples. The UE can then determine available resource for PRACH transmission.

[0039] In some implementations, two RACH modes can share a same set of time-frequency domain resource configuration signaling for the PRACH transmission, such as the configuration identified in RACH-ConfigCommon / EarlyUL-SyncConfig. As an example shown in FIG. 3, according to a time-frequency domain resource configuration for PRACH transmission, the configured RO resource may be located within the DL symbols. In a non-SBFD RACH mode, this RO cannot be identified as a valid RO and cannot be associated with any SSB. The RO resource located within the DL symbols is not allowed to be used for the PRACH transmission. For a SBFD RACH mode as shown in FIG. 3, there are five slots (slot0~slot4) in one frame structure period. The frame structure is configured as “DDDFU, ” where D stands for downlink symbols, U stands for uplink symbols, and F stands for flexible symbols. The UL subband can be introduced into the DL or flexible resource, i.e., slot#1, slot#2, slot#3, and slot#4. Then, these four slots are defined as SBFD resources. The configured RO may be located within the SBFD resources, the configured RO in the SBFD resources has the opportunity to be determined as a valid RO if it meets some specific conditions. The condition may include that the configured RO is located within the frequency range of the UL subband.

[0040] In some implementations, two sets of preambles are configured for SBFD RACH  mode and non-SBFD RACH mode, respectively. Additionally, at least one of the following parameters can be configured, including a first starting preamble index, a first number of preambles configured for a first RACH mode, a second starting preamble index, a second number of preambles configured for a first RACH mode, a third number of preambles in each set, and a total number of preambles in the two sets.

[0041] As examples, a first starting preamble index (e.g., index A) and a first number (e.g., N) of preambles are configured for a first RACH mode, e.g., the non-SBFD RACH mode. The first preamble set from preamble#Ato preamble# (A+N-1) can be used for the first RACH mode. Additionally or alternatively, a second starting preamble index (e.g., index B) and a second number (e.g., M) of preambles are configured for a second RACH mode, e.g., the SBFD RACH mode. Here, N can be different from M. The second preamble set from preamble#B to preamble# (B+M-1) will be used for the second RACH mode. In some implementations, a UE doesn’t except to be configured with a preamble index within both of the first preamble set and the second preamble set. That is, there is no overlapping between two sets of preambles. In some examples, the number of preambles in different sets is same, i.e., M=N, and a single parameter can be used for configuring the number of preambles in different sets.

[0042] As other examples, a first starting preamble index (e.g., index A) and a first number (e.g., N) of the preambles is configured. The first preamble set from preamble#Ato preamble# (A+N-1) will be used for the first RACH mode (such as the SBFD RACH mode) . The starting preamble index of the second preamble set is determined as preamble index (N+A) , and the number of the second preamble set equals to N. The second preamble sets from preamble# (N+A) to preamble# (2N+A-1) will be used for the second RACH mode (such as the non-SBFD RACH mode) .

[0043] As other examples, the number of preambles (e.g., N) in each preamble set is configured. The first preamble index to be used for CFRA (e.g., index C) is defined as the starting preamble index of the first preamble set. The first preamble set from preamble#C to preamble# (C+N-1) will be used for the first RACH mode (such as the SBFD RACH mode) .  The starting preamble index of the second preamble set is determined as preamble index (N+C) , and the number of the second preamble set equals to N. The second preamble set from preamble# (N+A) to preamble# (2N+C-1) can be used for the second RACH mode (such as the non-SBFD RACH mode) .

[0044] As another example, the total number of preamble that can be used for a CFRA (i.e., preamble other than that for CBRA and / or SI (System Information) request are divided into two sets for the SBFD RACH mode and the non-SBFD RACH mode, respectively. For example, there are P preambles available for CFRA. The first preamble set includes P / 2 preambles, and the second preamble set include the remaining preambles, e.g., the last P / 2 preambles. In some examples, P is an odd number, the first or preambles form the first preamble set, and the last or preambles form the second preamble set.  stands for a smallest integer greater than or equal to a.  is the largest integer less than or equal to a. Alternatively or additionally, the P preambles can be divided unevenly. For example, the preambles for the SBFD RACH mode can be larger than the preambles for the non-SBFD RACH mode, or vice versa.

[0045] Additionally or alternatively, a total number Q of preambles that can be used for the SBFD RACH mode and the non-SBFD RACH mode are configured. The Q consecutive preambles are divided into two sets for the SBFD RACH mode and the non-SBFD RACH mode, respectively. For example, there are Q preambles available for CFRA. The first preamble set forms by the first Q / 2 preambles, and the second preamble set forms by the remaining preambles, i.e., the last Q / 2 preambles. In some examples, Q is an odd number, the first or preambles form the first preamble set, and the last or preambles form the second preamble set. Additionally, the starting preamble index can be configured or determined as the first available preamble for CFRA procedure (i.e., first preamble other than that for CBRA and / or SI request) .

[0046] Additionally or alternatively, if the preamble index indicated by the PDCCH order belongs to the preamble set corresponding to the SBFD RACH mode, UE can assume that the gNB instructs the UE to initiate the RACH procedure by using the SBFD RACH mode. The  UE may then determine valid ROs in accordance with the valid RO determination rule of the SBFD RACH mode and select a valid RO corresponding to the SSB indicated by the PDCCH order to send the preamble indicated by the PDCCH order. Otherwise, if the preamble index indicated by the PDCCH order belongs to the preamble set corresponding to the non-SBFD RACH mode, UE can assume that the gNB instructs the UE to initiate the RACH procedure by using the non-SBFD RACH mode. The UE can determine valid ROs in accordance with the valid RO determination rule of the non-SBFD RACH mode and select a valid RO corresponding to the SSB indicated by the PDCCH order to send the preamble indicated by the PDCCH order.

[0047] Additionally or alternatively, there can be an information field in the PDCCH order for indicating the RACH mode to be used by the UE. For example, the information field is of ‘1’ bit. The first value, e.g., ‘0’ , indicates the UE to initiate the RACH procedure by using the SBFD RACH mode. The UE then can determine valid ROs in accordance with the valid RO determination rule of the SBFD RACH mode, and select a valid RO corresponding to the SSB indicated by the PDCCH order to send the preamble indicated by the PDCCH order. Alternatively, the second value, e.g., ‘1’ , indicates the UE to initiate the RACH procedure by using the non-SBFD RACH mode. The UE then can determine valid ROs in accordance with the valid RO determination rule of the non-SBFD RACH mode, and select a valid RO corresponding to the SSB indicated by the PDCCH order to send the preamble indicated by the PDCCH order.

[0048] Additionally or alternatively, the information field in the PDCCH order may include at least three states. The first state indicates the UE to initiate the RACH procedure by using the SBFD RACH mode. The second state indicates the UE to initiate the RACH procedure by using the non-SBFD RACH mode. The third state indicates the UE to initiate the RACH procedure by using either SBFD RACH mode or non-SBFD RACH mode. That is, the third state gives the UE the discretion to choose the SBFD RACH mode or the non-SBFD RACH mode.

[0049] Additionally or alternatively, the information field exists only when the UE first  reports the SBFD RACH capability to the base station or the SBFD RACH function is enabled or configured by the network side. In some implementations, the information field is absent or with 0 bit when the UE doesn’t report it has the SBFD RACH capability, or the SBFD RACH function has not been enabled or configured by the network. In some implementations, an RRC signaling is used for configuring whether the information field exists or not.

[0050] Additionally or alternatively, the information field of ‘PRACH mask index’ can be interpreted to indicate which SSB-RO association period is used for this RACH procedure. As shown in FIG. 4 exemplarily, there are two association periods, first association period and second association period. A first value of ‘PRACH mask index’ field indicates that the first SSB-RO association period should be used for the RACH procedure. When the valid RO in the first SSB-RO association period is located within the SBFD symbols, so the UE can determine that that SBFD RACH mode is used for this RACH procedure. On the other hand, a second value of ‘PRACH mask index’ field can indicate that the second SSB-RO association period should be used for the RACH procedure. When the valid RO in the second SSB-RO association period is located within the non-SBFD symbols, so the non-SBFD RACH mode is used for this RACH procedure. That is, in this example, the information field can indicate which SSB-RO association period should be used for the RACH procedure, and the UE can determine whether to use the SBFD RACH mode or the non-SBFD RACH mode according to whether the valid RO in the association period is SBFD RO or not.

[0051] Additionally or alternatively, a third value of ‘PRACH mask index’ field indicates that the more than one SSB-RO association period can be used for the RACH procedure. The UE then determines which RACH mode to be used. For example, the third value of ‘PRACH mask index’ field indicates that any SSB-RO association period can be used. As another example, the third value of ‘PRACH mask index’ field indicates that any one of the odd SSB-RO association periods can be used. As another example, the third value of ‘PRACH mask index’ field indicates that any one of the even SSB-RO association periods can be used. In these case, the UE may be given the discretion to determine whether to use the SBFD  RACH mode or the non-SBFD RACH mode.

[0052] Additionally or alternatively, the above interpretation of the ‘PRACH mask index’ field is made only if the value of the RRC parameter ‘ssb-perRACH-Occasion’ is larger than or equals to one. That is, based on the value of the RRC parameter ‘ssb-perRACH-Occasion’ , the UE interprets the ‘PRACH mask index’ field differently. The above interpretation may be enabled when the value of the RRC parameter ‘ssb-perRACH-Occasion’ is larger than or equals to a threshold, like one.

[0053] Additionally or alternatively, separate sets of time-frequency domain resource configuration signalings for PRACH transmission are used for two RACH modes, respectively.

[0054] Additionally or alternatively, different sets of preambles are defined for different RACH modes, respectively, by using the method mentioned above. In such case, if the preamble index indicated by the PDCCH order belongs to the preamble set corresponding to a RACH mode, the UE understand that the gNB instructs UE to initiate the RACH procedure by using the corresponding RACH mode. The UE then can determine the configured RO resource according the sets of time-frequency domain resource configuration signaling for the corresponding RACH mode, determine valid ROs in accordance with the valid RO determination rule of the corresponding RACH mode, and select a valid RO corresponding to the SSB indicated by the PDCCH order to send the preamble indicated by the PDCCH order.

[0055] Additionally or alternatively, an information field in the PDCCH order is used for indicating the RACH mode.

[0056] Additionally or alternatively, if the separate sets of time-frequency domain resource configuration signaling for PRACH transmission for SBFD RACH mode exist, the UE understands that the SBFD RACH mode is to be used for the RACH procedure triggered by the PDCCH order. Otherwise, the UE understands that non-SBFD RACH mode is used for the RACH procedure triggered by the PDCCH order.

[0057] Additionally or alternatively, it is possible that two sets of configurations signaling cannot exist at the same time. Therefore in such case, the RACH mode to be used for  initiating RACH procedure is determined by the UE according to which set of configuration exists.

[0058] Additionally or alternatively, the RACH mode to be used is determined by the UE according to the resource type used by the PDCCH order. For example, if the PDCCH order is detected by a UE in the SBFD resource / symbols, the UE determines that the SBFD RACH mode should be used for the RACH procedure triggered by the PDCCH order. Otherwise, if the PDCCH order is detected by the UE in the non-SBFD resource / symbols (i.e., in the DL symbols without SBFD configuration) , the UE determines the non-SBFD RACH mode should be used for the RACH procedure triggered by the PDCCH order.

[0059] The examples above provide different methods for configuring and enabling a UE to perform RACH procedures on SBFD resources or perform RACH procedures based on non-SBFD resources. The RACH procedure can be triggered by a PDCCH order, and the RACH mode can be determined or instructed by the gNB to the UE, through which a gNB can effectively control the RACH mode used by the UE for a RACH procedure triggered by the PDCCH order. A UE can be effectively configured and effectively perform RACH on SBFD resources. The overall access efficiency can be improved.

[0060] Initial Determination of RACH Modes by UE

[0061] Additionally or alternatively, configuring and enabling a UE to perform RACH on SBFD resources can be done by occasion configuration. The RACH procedure can be triggered by a PDCCH order, and the RACH mode can be determined by the UE.

[0062] Additionally or alternatively, if a UE reports the SBFD RACH capability, which RACH mode to be used in the RACH procedure triggered by the PDCCH order can depends on the UE. For example, a RSRP threshold can be configured, and the UE determines the RACH mode according to the RSRP measurement and the RSRP threshold. If the RSRP measurement result is higher than (or equal) to the RSRP threshold, the SBFD RACH mode is used. Otherwise, if the RSRP measurement result is lower than (or equal) to the RSRP threshold, non-SBFD RACH mode is used. Alternatively, if the RSRP measurement result is higher than (or equal) to the RSRP threshold, the non-SBFD RACH mode is used. Otherwise,  if the RSRP measurement result is lower than (or equal) to the RSRP threshold, SBFD RACH mode is used.

[0063] Additionally or alternatively, two sets of occasion configuration are used for the SBFD RACH mode and the non-SBFD RACH mode, respectively. For example, another set of occasion configuration (e.g., occasions-SBFD) is introduced under RACH-ConfigCommon. A UE determines the RACH mode, and selects RO resource according to the occasion configuration of the determined RACH mode for transmitting the preamble. The gNB can determine the RACH mode determined by the UE according to in which RO resource it receives the preamble transmission.

[0064] Additionally or alternatively, a single set of occasion configuration is shared by the SBFD RACH mode and the non-SBFD RACH mode. If a UE selects a RO resource in the SBFD resource, the base station understand that that the SBFD RACH mode is used for the RACH procedure; otherwise, if the UE selects a RO resource in the non-SBFD resource, the base station understand that the non-SBFD RACH mode is used for the RACH procedure. Accordingly, the gNB can determine the mode of the current RACH procedure by receiving preamble transmission on ROs of what type of resources.

[0065] Additionally or alternatively, a single set of occasion configuration is shared by the SBFD RACH mode and non-SBFD RACH mode. The RO resource located within the non-SBFD resource can also be used for SBFD RACH mode. That is, the RO resource within the non-SBFD resource is shared by SBFD RACH mode and the non-SBFD RACH mode. In this case, two preamble indexes can be indicated by the PDCCH order. The first preamble index corresponds to the first RACH mode (such as the SBFD RACH mode) , and the second preamble index corresponds to the second RACH mode (such as the non-SBFD RACH mode) . A UE determines the RACH mode. If the UE selects a shared RO for the preamble transmission, the UE selects a preamble from the indicated two preamble indexes according to the determined the RACH mode. The gNB can determine the mode of the current RACH procedure by identifying the preamble transmitted by the UE. That is, if the preamble with the first preamble index is received in the shared RO, the gNB determines that the first  RACH mode is used. Otherwise, if the preamble with the second preamble index is received in the shared RO, the gNB determines that the second RACH mode is used.

[0066] Additionally or alternatively, there can be an information field in the PDCCH order used for indicating a power control parameter. In one example, the power control parameter includes at least one of: a power offset value, a P0 value for PRACH transmission within SBFD symbols, an alpha value for PRACH transmission within SBFD symbols, a UE configured maximum output power for PRACH transmission within SBFD symbols, a P0 value for PRACH transmission within non-SBFD symbols, an alpha value for PRACH transmission within non-SBFD symbols, and / or a UE configured maximum output power for PRACH transmission within non-SBFD symbols. The power offset value indicates a power adjustment value if a RO in the SBFD symbols is used to transmit the PRACH. P0 indicates target receive power of the gNB. The Alpha indicates the compensation factor of the path loss.

[0067] Here, the RACH procedure can be triggered by a PDCCH order, and the RACH mode can be determined initially by the UE. The UE can effectively determine the RACH mode for a RACH procedure triggered by the PDCCH order and indicate to the gNB. The UE can therefore effectively perform the RACH procedure on SBFD resources. The overall access efficiency is improved.

[0069] Additionally, the RACH procedure can be triggered for handover / beam failure recovery. For a handover procedure, a first RRC signaling, e.g., RACH-ConfigDedicated is used for configuring the CFRA resource (including, the time-frequency domain resource, the preamble index for each reference signal, such as an SSB or CSI-RS, and so on) of the target cell of the handover. If a SBFD resource is configured in the target cell, the SBFD configuration can be provided to the UE (e.g., in the RRC signaling ‘ServingCellConfigCommon’ ) . For beam failure recovery, a second RRC signaling, e.g., BeamFailureRecoveryConfig, can be used for configuring the CFRA resource of the serving cell.

[0070] Additionally or alternatively, the first or second RRC signaling includes a first indication about the RACH mode used for triggered the RACH procedure. In some examples, the first or second RRC signaling includes a second indication about whether the configured RO resource in the first or second RRC signaling is applied for the SBFD RACH mode. In some examples, if the SBFD RACH mode is indicated by the first indication, or the configured RO resource is applied for the SBFD RACH mode according the second indication, the UE can determine the valid RO according to the rule for the SBFD RACH mode. Additionally or alternatively, the UE can use the lowest PRB of the UL subband or the lowest PRB of the available UL PRB in the SBFD symbols for determining the lowest PRB of PRACH transmission occasion. In some examples, if the non-SBFD RACH mode is indicated by the first indication, or the configured RO resource isn’t applied for the SBFD RACH mode according the second indication, the UE can determine the valid RO according to the rule for the non-SBFD RACH mode. Alternatively, the UE can use the lowest PRB of the UL BWP, i.e., PRB 0 for determining the lowest PRB of PRACH transmission occasion. Additionally or alternatively, two groups of preambles are defined for SBFD RACH mode and non-SBFD RACH mode respectively. The preamble index indicated in the first or second RRC signaling can implicitly indicate the RACH mode used for the triggered RACH procedure.

[0071] Additionally or alternatively, an information element (IE) for indicating a PRACH mask index (e.g., ‘ra-ssb-OccasionMaskIndex’ ) in the first or second signaling can be interpreted to indicate which SSB-RO association period is used for this RACH procedure. As an example, there can be two association periods. The RO of the first association period is within the SBFD symbols, and the RO of the second association period is within the non-SBFD symbols as shown in FIG. 4. A first value of the information element can indicate that the first SSB-RO association period should be used for the RACH procedure. When the valid RO in the first SSB-RO association period is located within the SBFD symbols, the UE or BS determines the SBFD RACH mode is used for this RACH procedure. On the other hand, a second value of the information element indicates that the second SSB-RO  association period should be used for the RACH procedure. When the valid RO in the second SSB-RO association period is located within the non-SBFD symbols, the UE or BS determines the non-SBFD RACH mode is used for this RACH procedure. In some implementations, a first information element (e.g., cfra-sbfd) for configuring the CFRA resource for SBFD mode is defined under the first / second RRC signaling. And there is a second information element (e.g., cfra) for configuring the CFRA resource for non-SBFD mode. In some examples, only one of the first information element and the second information element can be configured. The corresponding RACH mode will be used for the RACH procedure.

[0072] Additionally or alternatively, both of the first information element and the second information element can be configured simultaneously. And one RACH mode can be selected by the UE for the RACH procedure.

[0073] Additionally or alternatively, two sets of RO resources are configured under the first or second RRC signaling. The first set is for the SBFD RACH mode, and the second set is for the non-SBFD RACH mode. A UE can determine the RACH mode and use the corresponding set of RO resource for transmitting the preamble. In some implementations, two preamble indexes are indicated for each RS (Reference Signal) (SSB or CSI-RS) . One preamble index is for the SBFD RACH mode, and the other preamble index is for the non-SBFD RACH mode. The UE can determine the RACH mode and transmit the corresponding the preamble on the selected RO.

[0074] Here, the RACH procedure is triggered for handover or beam failure recovery, through which a UE can effectively determine the RACH mode for a RACH procedure triggered for the handover or beam failure recovery. The UE can effectively perform RACH on SBFD resources. The overall access efficiency can be improved.

[0075] System Information (SI) Request

[0076] Additionally or alternatively, the RACH procedure can be triggered for an SI request. In a NR (new radio) system, some SI messages (such as, MIB, SIB1, etc. ) are transmitted periodically. Other SI messages are transmitted on demand, or based on the requests of  subordinate UEs. For the on-demand SI messages, an RRC signaling (e.g., SI-RequestConfig) can be used for configuring the information for the request. The request can be the msg 1 based, which requests the corresponding SI message type by transmitting a specific PRACH. The RRC signaling can include a RACH resource configuration, which includes a list of SI request resources. Each SI request resource in the list corresponds to a type of SI messages. For enabling the RACH transmission for SI requests by using the SBFD resource, the similar approach for the handover or beam recovery in the last section can be reused.

[0077] In some implementations, the SBFD resource configuration information can be carried in the SI message that is always broadcast periodically, for example, in SIB1. In other implementations, the SBFD resource configuration information can be carried in the SI message that is transmitted on demand. To request this type of on-demand SI message (which carries SBFD resource configuration information) , the corresponding preamble can, for example, only be transmitted through ROs in the non-SBFD symbols. That is, the RACH procedure for requesting this type of SI messages should be a non-SBFD RACH mode. In some implementations, for requesting other SI message (which doesn’t carry SBFD resource configuration information) , either SBFD RACH mode or non-SBFD RACH mode can be used for the RACH procedure for SI message requesting. The similar approach for the handover or beam recovery in the last section can be reused.

[0078] In some implementations, multiple PRACH transmissions (or PRACH repetitions) can also be supported. There can be three repetition factors (e.g., 2, 4, 8) , for the repetition factor selection for multiple PRACH transmissions. Three RSRP thresholds are defined, e.g., rsrp-ThresholdMsg1-RepetitionNum2, rsrp-ThresholdMsg1-RepetitionNum4, rsrp-ThresholdMsg1-RepetitionNum8. If the RSRP of the downlink pathloss reference is less than rsrp-ThresholdMsg1-RepetitionNum8, multiple PRACH transmissions with repetition factor 8 will be applied. Else if the RSRP of the downlink pathloss reference is less than rsrp-ThresholdMsg1-RepetitionNum4, multiple PRACH transmissions with repetition factor 4 will be applied. Else if the RSRP of the downlink pathloss reference is less than rsrp-ThresholdMsg1-RepetitionNum2, multiple PRACH transmissions with repetition factor  2 will be applied.

[0079] In some implementations, the SBFD RACH mode can be used only if multiple PRACH transmissions is used. In other words, if the RSRP of the downlink pathloss reference is less than rsrp-ThresholdMsg1-RepetitionNum2, SBFD RACH mode with multiple PRACH transmissions will be performed. In some implementations, if the RSRP of the downlink pathloss reference is less than rsrp-ThresholdMsg1-RepetitionNum8, multiple PRACH transmissions with 8 repetition will be performed under the SBFD RACH mode. In some implementations, if the RSRP of the downlink pathloss reference is less than rsrp-ThresholdMsg1-RepetitionNum4, multiple PRACH transmissions with 4 repetition will be performed under the SBFD RACH mode.

[0080] The examples here provide methods for configuring and enabling a UE to perform RACH on SBFD resources. The RACH procedure is triggered for SI request, through which a UE can effectively determine the RACH mode for a RACH procedure triggered for SI requests. The UE can effectively perform RACH on SBFD resources accordingly, and the overall access efficiency is improved.

[0081] Configurating with MAC CE

[0082] Additionally or alternatively, the RACH procedure is triggered by a MAC layer signaling, e.g., a MAC CE (MAC Control Element) . For L1 / L3 triggered Mobility (LTM) cell switch, the RO resource can be configured by an RRC signaling (e.g., RACH-ConfigDedicated or RACH-ConfigCommon) . The preamble index and SS / PBCH block index used in the RACH procedure can be indicated via a MAC layer signaling, e.g., LTM Cell Switch Command MAC CE. The specific format of the LTM Cell Switch Command MAC CE is showed in FIG. 5.

[0083] Additionally or alternatively, the RACH mode (including the SBFD RACH mode or the non SBFD RACH mode) can be indicated in the MAC layer signaling. For example, the any one of the ‘R’ bits can be used for the RACH mode indication. In some implementations, the MAC layer signaling can indicate the UE should use the SBFD RACH mode, the non SBFD RACH mode, or either one is acceptable. Then, any two ‘R’ bits can be used for the  RACH mode indication.

[0084] Additionally or alternatively, two Random Access Preamble indexes will be indicated in the MAC layer signaling for non-SBFD RACH mode and SBFD RACH mode respectively. That is, a second Random Access Preamble index will be introduced. For example, another row (e.g., Oct 7 in FIG. 6) can be added for indicating the second Random Access Preamble index. In some examples, the 6th ‘R’ bits of the MAC CE are used for indicating the second Random Access Preamble index.

[0085] Additionally or alternatively, one or more bits will be used for indicating the index offset between a second Random Access Preamble index and the current Random Access Preamble index (indicated in Oct 6) . The corresponding ‘R’ bits in the MAC CE will be used for indicating the index offset. That is, one or more ‘R’ bits can be used for carrying the information field. As an example in FIG. 7, the first two bits in Oct 2 are used for indicating the index offset. As another examples, the 4 ‘R’ bits in Oct 2 of the MAC CE will be defined for indicating the index offset. As another examples, the 3 ‘R’ bits in Oct 1 of the MAC CE will be defined for indicating the index offset. As another examples, the ‘R’ bit in Oct 4 of the MAC CE will be defined for indicating the index offset.

[0086] In some implementations, there is an information field in the MAC CE used for indicating the power control parameter. The power offset value indicates a power adjustment value if a RO in the SBFD symbols is used to transmit PRACH. P0 indicates target receive power of the gNB. Alpha indicates the compensation factor of the path loss. The information field can be carried by introducing one or more new rows. Alternatively, one or more ‘R’ bits can be used for carrying the information field.

[0087] Here, the RACH procedure is triggered by a MAC layer signaling, e.g., a MAC CE, through which a UE can effectively determine the RACH mode for a RACH procedure triggered by a MAC layer signaling, e.g., a MAC CE. So that the UE can effectively perform RACH on SBFD resources. The overall access efficiency is improved.

[0098] The implementations may be distributed. For instance, the circuitry may include multiple distinct system components, such as multiple processors and memories, and may span multiple distributed processing systems. Parameters, databases, and other data structures may be separately stored and managed, may be incorporated into a single memory or database, may be logically and physically organized in many different ways, and may be implemented in many different ways. Example implementations include linked lists, program variables, hash tables, arrays, records (e.g., database records) , objects, and implicit storage mechanisms. Instructions may form parts (e.g., subroutines or other code sections) of a single program, may form multiple separate programs, may be distributed across multiple memories and processors, and may be implemented in many different ways. Example implementations include stand-alone programs, and as part of a library, such as a shared library like a Dynamic Link Library (DLL) . The library, for example, may contain shared data and one or more shared programs that include instructions that perform any of the processing described above or illustrated in the drawings, when performed by the circuitry.

[0099] In some examples, each unit, subunit, and / or module of the system may include a logical component. Each logical component may be hardware or a combination of hardware and software. For example, each logical component may include an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) , a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) , a digital logic circuit, an analog circuit, a combination of discrete circuits, gates, or any other type of hardware or combination thereof. Alternatively or in addition, each logical component may include memory hardware, such as a portion of the memory, for example, that includes instructions executable with the processor or other processors to implement one or more of the features of the logical components. When any one of the logical components includes the portion of the memory that includes instructions executable with the processor, the logical component may or may not include the processor. In some examples, each logical component may just be the portion of the memory or other physical memory that includes instructions executable with the processor or other processor to implement the features of the corresponding logical component without the logical component including any other hardware. Because each logical component includes at least some hardware even when the included hardware includes software, each logical component may be interchangeably referred to as a hardware logical component.

[0100] A second action may be said to be “in response to” a first action independent of whether the second action results directly or indirectly from the first action. The second action may occur at a substantially later time than the first action and still be in response to the first action. Similarly, the second action may be said to be in response to the first action even if intervening actions take place between the first action and the second action, and even if one or more of the intervening actions directly cause the second action to be performed. For example, a second action may be in response to a first action if the first action sets a flag and a third action later initiates the second action whenever the flag is set.

[0101] To clarify the use of and to hereby provide notice to the public, the phrases “at least one of , , …and <N>” or “at least one of , , …<N>, or combinations thereof” or “, , …and / or <N>” or “at least one of , , …or <N>” are  defined by the Applicant in the broadest sense, superseding any other implied definitions hereinbefore or hereinafter unless expressly asserted by the Applicant to the contrary, to mean one or more elements selected from the group comprising A, B, …and N. In other words, the phrases mean any combination of one or more of the elements A, B, …or N including any one element alone or the one element in combination with one or more of the other elements which may also include, in combination, additional elements not listed.
