Abstract

Presented is a method and system for facilitating doubt resolution within a class of students using an interactive digital textbook Notifications, along with an unread status feature, allow stakeholders comprising instructor, students, and parents to seamlessly engage in digitally enhanced learning. The clarification of doubts not only contributes to knowledge acquisition but also enriches interactions among instructors, students, and parents within the digital textbook. Timely notifications streamline communication, fostering immediate awareness and promoting a deeper understanding of subject sessions. This collaborative approach brings educational stakeholders closer, offering maximum support to learners, optimizing instructor outputs, and providing transparent insights for parents to closely monitor their children's education. The collaborative digital textbook empowers students to articulate and resolve doubts across various sections, creating an interactive and dynamic educational environment.

[0003] The present invention relates to advanced digital textbooks or any learning content wherein the students can raise doubts about any part of the digital learning material and notify all stakeholders of a class to interact on the doubt raised by a student and an instructor to respond to the doubt raised.

[0004] A query can be raised from base book / lecture notes and additional content given for keywords, equations, formulas, or phrases, pictures, concept videos, teaching videos embedded in the base book itself and also study material with Q &A under a chapter and from previous year Q & A and solutions with explanation guides in the form of digital learning material.

[0005] The present invention further relates to interactive collaboration (raising and clarifying doubts), receiving instant notifications on the doubts raised and clarified between educational multistakeholders like students, instructors, and parents and viewing the “status” of the doubts raised which includes count of “unread” clarified doubts, count of “unread” unclarified or yet to clarify doubts, count of clarified doubts, count of unclarified doubts, count of the doubts raised in multiple ways from selected word / phrase / sentence / equation / concept video / teaching video / audio / pictures in the different parts of the digital learning material, which includes the base text book / additional content. The doubts may also extend to the digital learning material with questions and answers, and previous year Q&A thereby allowing to solve difficulties in seeking clarification in preferred parts of the digital learning material in accordance with user prerequisites and getting instant notifications regarding the doubts raised or prompt clarification on the same.

[0007] Information Technology has drastically enhanced the growth of education in the last decade. Recent enrichments in the education system through the internet are advancing the digital revolution by making it possible to store and view textbooks in a digitized format on a personal computer or any other communication devices like laptop computers, desktop computers, digital tablets, smart mobile phone devices, etc. It made irreversible changes in the field of education. As a result, digitized educational books are developed with multiple advantages and add-on features for readers and learners.

[0008] With the start of the progressive learning management system, online education gained acceptance and popularity in the educational field. In the prevailing online education system, the collaboration or interaction between students and instructors to seek clarification or solve doubts is a challenging and demanding one. The interaction between the instructor, students, and parents is not happening consistently, which fails to support an effective educational curriculum while using digitized textbooks. Moreover, the present system fails to provide simplified user-friendly notifications on the doubts raised, doubts answered and doubts unanswered in various parts of the digital learning material.

[0009] Interaction takes place mostly on a one-on-one basis between the instructor and the students. It also takes place through audio or video online calls between the instructor and the students, which is also on a one-to-one basis at a fixed time. Online video conference call is also possible, which has its limitations. Introverted / fearful / nervous students do not usually interact in these kinds of video conference calls.

[0010] Students currently present their doubts to the instructor by either sending an Email, personal messages in a chat box, or sending messages in a group through the learning management system. However, for the raising doubts from specific parts of the digital learning materials, the current methods are not very user-friendly. Moreover, the PDF text content, additional explanation for any part of the PDF text content, concept videos or teaching videos are all sent individually to the students and are not clubbed together.

[0011] The learning management systems are concept-oriented, which fails to satisfy the academic learning of the subjects. Continuous tracking of every individual student by the instructor and their parents to know about the progress of students in education and to know the status of doubts raised in a timely manner has become a demanding task. Clarifying the doubts and providing sufficient explanation on the same also plays a prime place in the instructor’s professional performance. It is a tiresome task for the instructor to follow up with each student and clarify their doubts one by one. In a large number of cases, the students may have the same doubts to be clarified and in the present system, the instructor is burdened to answer to the same doubts / queries repeatedly.

[0012] In the existing learning management system and ‘Interactive E-Books’ instructors clarify the doubt only to the student who raised the doubt, no other student or parent has the option to view or know regarding the related doubts / queries and the relevant explanation. Also, there is no option for other students to know the views / suggestions to the particular question raised by the student. The student communicates with the instructor through a call in one-to-one conversation. It cannot be helpful for other students or parents if they are not a part of the conversation. Waiting for the next classroom / learning session to get clarification for their doubts from the instructor is an outdated and time-consuming way of clarifying the doubts.

[0013] In the prior art, most E-leaming books do not facilitate with the option for raising the doubts of the students instantaneously by selecting either a specific word, phrase, sentence, video, picture or raising the doubts in general. Clarification of the doubt and the interaction between instructors, students, and parents are not happening on a need basis, which fails to support the delivery of an effective educational curriculum while using digital textbooks.

[0014] Moreover, currently there is no option for the stakeholders (students and instructors) to view or receive notification from the digital textbook itself about the collaboration part or notifications regarding the collaboration. This does not allow the educational stakeholders, specifically students to get more involved in the subject discussion and sharing the knowledge. Therefore, it gets very difficult for the instructor to know in which session or chapter the student has raised doubts and the status on the same.

[0015] Most of the time the students do not raise any doubts in the classroom as they are nervous or afraid and hence, they prefer to raise doubts / queries individually with the instructor or with their parents at home. Waiting and asking for a doubt or clarification on the digital textbook / leaming material / lecture notes is the current method of collaboration in a class to get the doubt clarified by the students which is not very efficient.

[0016] Clarification is essential in our day-to-day communication in the education system for a better understanding on the topic. Clarification is a form of reflection of the student’s doubts in the particular subject that seeks to eliminate ambiguity, confusion, or misunderstanding in learning the subjects. Clarification of the doubt is a lively part of the communication and has a major role in the E-learning process. To understand the meaning, importance, significance of a word, phrase, sentence, equation, concept videos of the topic, multiple pictures explaining the topic, and teaching video the students can raise their doubts and the doubts clarified by the instructor can be precise to the point. This can happen anytime if the students have the option to raise their doubts immediately just by selecting the specific portion in the digital learning material instead of waiting for appropriate time and manner to raise the doubt / query. Development in the student's questioning skills has enhanced several higher cognitive level capacities, such as analytical skills, problem- solving skills and creative thinking skills. There is no proper system available until now to sort out this prevalent issue.

[0017] Based on the foregoing, there is an extreme need for interactive / collaborative features in the digital learning material linked to a CMS (Content Management System) that is academic- oriented allowing proper interaction between the students, instructor, parents and has a user- friendly mechanism for addressing challenges of the users by providing the options for user- friendly interaction / collaboration between the educational stakeholders through a very simplified graphical interface, as described in greater detail later in the description. There also exists a need for enhanced value-added digital E-learning books that facilitates the students or other educational stakeholders to clarify their doubts instantaneously which allows to provide brief or concise answers that typically deliver a more concrete understanding of the selected word, phrase, sentence, equation, video or picture from a session in a chapter.

[0018] Moreover, the students are also in need of a simplified notification option that shows the total count of clarified and unclarified doubts individually with a numeric count for each question and also an option to view the status of the count of the unread answers in the clarified section and unread doubts in the yet-to-clarify section, view the notification on doubt raised for a particular word, phrase, sentence, video, picture, etc., view notification on doubt raised and clarified on the study material, view notification on doubt raised and solved based on the previous year solved questions, notification on doubts raised and solved on the concept or teaching videos, notification on doubt raised and solved on the additional content to save the time of the students, instructor and parents from searching and easy identification of the doubt raised from the digital learning material and answer / clarifications given for the raised doubts. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention provides an option to seek clarification or raised doubt and to answer, which is an attempt to shore up any confusion in the textbook content already present in the digital textbook or in between discussions of the educational stakeholders that in detail clarifies the doubts, removes ambiguity from the content of the subject to promote accuracy and enable improved learning of the subject. Also, the notification option for each doubt raised shows the total count of the clarified or unclarified doubts asked by the educational stakeholders, specifically students.

Collaborative digital textbook simplifies the interaction with various materials, resources and communication with experts beyond the classroom. Digital textbook content is continually up-to-date with infinite videos, audio, pictures, documents, and the like and supports a wide variety of interests and topics which prevents the educational stakeholders especially students from referring to other websites and getting misled or lost in the maze of information available. It helps the students to enhance their knowledge and engage with the subjects fully by getting properly clarified to various doubts, the students have in the digital textbook / notes while learning.

[0023] One more object of a disclosed embodiment is to provide an option for students to raise doubt or seek clarification in essential parts of each session of the advanced digital textbook making it easier to receive clarification on doubts about the content in the advanced digital textbook / notes by the student and the doubts / clarification sought by a student need not be repeated, as the doubt / clarification sought by a student will be viewed in all the stakeholders digital books by all other students prevents asking the same doubt again, which they can comment and improve on the doubt raised or agree to the doubt raised. The parents can also comment by giving the answer to the doubts raised by the students in the class.

The doubts pertaining to the selected session may be displayed in either chronological or reverse chronological order (customizable), based on user's requirements, with the user typically representing educational institutions, schools, colleges, and similar entities in accordance with the disclosed embodiments.

Moreover, the doubts raised by the student are accessed within the 'All' tab, where both 'clarified' and 'unclarified' doubts are presented in a chronological order. Furthermore, the total count of the doubts under the selected session of the base book gets incremented, and the total count of the doubts under both the tab “All” and “Yet to clarify” tabs also increased in accordance with the disclosed embodiments.

The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the method comprises: receiving a pluralityof user inputs from a plurality of users, for clarification and explanation for a displayed specified content and receiving user input as agree, comment, answer and the like to the clarification and explanation sought by the plurality of users, wherein the second user (instructor) only answers to any one of the clarifications and explanations sought or replies given by any one of the plurality of users, wherein the option is available only for the instructor to delete the comment, clarification, or explanation raised by other users, wherein the option to edit and delete the clarification raised and clarified, comment, or answer by the respective users.

The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the second user (students, instructor, parents) replies (comment, agree, answer and the like) to the clarification sought by the first user, with or without any attachments and the attachment is a document, an image, a picture, an audio and a video, and the like.

4. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the first user and second user interacts or collaborates (clarify, explain, comment, answer) by a text message, an audio message, a video message, attachments and the like.

5. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the notification on the total count of the clarified and unclarified doubts for each subject and for each division (unit / chapter) and subdivision (session) of the subject is viewed by the first user and second users (students, instructor, parents).

The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the notification on the count of the clarified doubts and unclarified doubts for the base digital study material or book and the additional study material for the key words / phrases / equation / formulas in the base study content is viewed separately by the first user and the second user.

7. The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the status on the count of the unread clarified doubts and unclarified doubts is viewed separately by the first user and the second user.

The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein notification on the count of the clarification asked by the different users for the same word or phrase or formula or equation orsentence or video or audio or additional content selected is viewed by the first user and the second user (students, parents, and guardian).

The method as claimed in claim 1, further comprises: providing an option to view the notification on words or phrases or sentences asked for clarification with the number count for the entire session or unit in a separate column, on clicking the count, the user views the conversations and the doubts clarified.

10. The method as claimed in claim 1, the method comprises, the option to view the clarify option for the entire session with the count, on clicking the respective clarify option successive clarification communications is viewed.

The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the place holding of the seeking for clarification option is viewed in any part of the session in the digital study material / lecture notes as per the requirement of the user and the users include all types of educational institutions including schools, colleges, universities, academies, tutorials, and the like and the subject study content are segmented as per the user need.
