Abstract
Description
Overspeed notification device
[0001] This invention relates to devices and operations for controlling vehicle speeding.
[0002] While checking road signs is essential when driving, drivers cannot completely check all road signs and may miss some. To address this issue, mechanisms for safe driving that read road sign information using a vehicle-side mechanism and reflect it in driving have been studied. For example, Patent Literature 1 proposes a technology that uses LiDAR to identify displayed objects within the imaging range of a camera that captures an image of the area ahead of the vehicle, and recognizes road information through image recognition. The recognized road information, such as speed limits, is then reported to the occupants.
[0003] Meanwhile, vehicles are already being controlled according to a set speed set by the driver (see Non-Patent Document 1). When the vehicle speed is about to exceed the set speed, for example, wheel torque is limited to prevent the vehicle from exceeding the set speed. Furthermore, maximum speed information is presented to the driver, and the driver is notified when the maximum speed information has changed (see section 2.2 in Non-Patent Document 1). Shortly after the presented speed limit is changed, the driver is asked for approval and encouraged to change the upper limit (see section 2.3.2.2 in Non-Patent Document 1).
[0004] However, there is also a technology proposed that rejects road signs when temporary restrictions are recognized in areas where road construction work is underway, so as not to be based on road sign information (Patent Documents 2 and 3).

[0007] However, in "2.2.5 Presentation of Information When the Speed Limit Changes" of Non-Patent Document 1, it is stated that "If a beep sounds every time the speed limit changes, the driver may find it annoying and disable the function, or may become confused because they do not know what the warning sound is. It is necessary to consider the HMI design according to the system and driving situation, such as clearly displaying that the new speed limit has been set." In some cases, the warning sound may be annoying to the driver.
[0008] On the other hand, if the vehicle speed exceeds the maximum speed limit, an alarm must be issued. If this alarm and the speed limit notification are issued at the same time, the driver will be required to process information simultaneously, which could be bothersome and increase the burden on the driver.
[0009] Therefore, an object of the present invention is to reduce the burden on the driver when the designated maximum speed of a road obtained by image recognition or the like is used as the set speed of the vehicle.
[0010] This invention solves the above problem by a first solution which is an overspeeding notification device comprising: a maximum speed information acquisition unit which acquires a designated maximum speed for the road on which the vehicle is traveling; a vehicle control unit which controls the vehicle in accordance with a set speed within a preset set speed range; a setting reflection unit which reflects the designated maximum speed in the set speed; a setting change impossible notification unit which issues a sound when a change to the set speed is rejected; and an overspeeding warning unit which issues a sound when the traveling speed exceeds the set speed, wherein when the setting reflection unit rejects the reflection of the designated maximum speed because it is below the lower limit or above the upper limit of the set speed range, the overspeeding warning unit stops issuing a rejection sound while the overspeeding warning unit is issuing a sound.
[0011] In addition to the first solution, the speeding notification device of the present invention can also employ a second solution, which stops the notification of a rejection sound by the setting change impossibility notification unit until a predetermined time has elapsed since the speeding warning sound has stopped sounding.
[0012] Furthermore, as a third solution, the speed limit notification device according to the present invention can employ a vehicle having the speed limit notification device according to the first or second solution.
[0013] Current vehicles have a system-defined lower limit for the set speed, which limits engine or motor drive to prevent further acceleration, and therefore cannot be limited to extremely low speeds. Specifically, if the lower limit of this limitable set speed is 30 km / h, even if the set speed is set to 20 km / h, acceleration when the accelerator pedal is depressed cannot be limited up to 30 km / h. Therefore, in areas with particularly low designated maximum speeds of around 10 to 20 km / h, such as residential areas or parking lots, the designated maximum speed cannot be reflected in the set speed. On such roads, if a driver believes that the set speed adequately reflects the designated maximum speed, they may actually experience unexpected acceleration up to around 30 km / h. Meanwhile, when obtaining the designated maximum speed from image recognition or map information, the designated maximum speed may be recognized as a speed exceeding 120 km / h, which is a legally unacceptable speed, due to misrecognition of images or partial data corruption. Setting a value that is inappropriate both legally and for the actual vehicle would not contribute to safe driving, so it would have to be rejected. For these reasons, when the setting reflection unit rejects the reflection, the system has a vehicle speed change impossibility notification unit that notifies the driver by voice, notifying the driver that the intended reflection by the setting reflection unit has been rejected.
[0014] In the speeding notification device of the present invention, even if such a rejection of the change is unavoidable, the rejection sound notification by the setting change impossibility notification unit is stopped or suspended while the speeding warning unit is sounding the speeding warning sound. In locations where the designated maximum speed is set low enough that the change is rejected, the unreflected set speed exceeds the lower limit of the actual limitable set speed, and the speeding state in which the driving speed exceeds the unreflected set speed is dangerous if not resolved immediately. Therefore, the inevitable rejection of the change is less urgent than the speeding, and the rejection sound is stopped or suspended, and the speeding warning sound is sounded first, thereby avoiding the driver hearing two overlapping notification sounds. This allows the driver to focus on deceleration without being bothered by the less urgent rejection sound, and instead receive the more urgent speeding notification.

A diagram showing the correspondence between the conditions for sounding the reject sound and the speeding warning sound and the actual sounding conditions. A flow example of one embodiment of the speeding notification device according to the present invention. A flow example branched from a part of FIG. 4.
[0016] An embodiment of the present invention will now be described with reference to the functional block diagram shown in FIG. 1. A speeding notification device 10 according to the present invention is mounted on an automobile 1. The automobile 1 may be an engine-driven vehicle or an electric vehicle. If the automobile 1 is an electric vehicle, it may be a hybrid vehicle having an engine. If the automobile 1 is a hybrid vehicle, it may be a plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) that is not only charged with power generated by the engine but also capable of supplying power to the outside. In other words, the type of automobile 1 is essentially irrelevant. However, in accordance with the present invention, whether the automobile 1 is engine-driven or motor-driven, it is necessary for the automobile 1 to have a vehicle control unit 20 that limits acceleration according to a set speed.
[0017] The vehicle control unit 20 includes a semiconductor computing device and memory. In response to output requests from operating devices such as the accelerator, the vehicle control unit 20 sends commands, such as operating instructions and output requests for the engine and motor, and acquires data from each component. The vehicle control unit 20 implements the functions described below by executing stored programs or by using dedicated circuits. In particular, rather than providing a separate computing device solely for the vehicle control unit 20, it is preferable to implement the present invention as an additional function by installing and executing a program that implements the present invention in an ECU (Electronic Control Unit) installed in the automobile 1 for driving control. Furthermore, the speed limit notification device 10 of the present invention may be pre-set at the time of shipment, within which the vehicle's speed can be controlled. This value can be set based on both legal limitations and the vehicle's actual operational limitations. For example, the operational lower limit may be set to 30 km / h, and the legal upper limit may be set to the maximum legal vehicle speed in the target country plus a meter display error. For example, in Japan, the maximum speed on the Shin-Tomei Expressway could be set at 135 km / h, with an error margin of 10 to 15 km / h added to the 120 km / h limit.Another option is to leave the upper speed limit to the driver, setting it at 200 km / h, which is higher than the vehicle limit, making it essentially unlimited.
[0018] The speed limit notification device 10 according to the present invention has a maximum speed information acquisition unit 21 that acquires the designated maximum speed of the road on which the automobile 1 is traveling. The means for acquiring the designated maximum speed of the road on which the automobile 1 is traveling is not limited, and data acquired by various functions of the automobile 1 may be selectively employed.
[0019] One method for acquiring the designated maximum speed is to acquire an image of the scene ahead of the vehicle from a camera 31 attached to the front of the automobile 1, and then acquire speed limit information from maximum speed signs and road markings included in the image using the image recognition unit 32. The image recognition unit 32 may be one that recognizes the speed limit by executing an image recognition AI program itself in the vehicle control unit 20, or the vehicle control unit 20 may acquire the speed limit information via dedicated hardware for image recognition.
[0020] Another method for acquiring the designated maximum speed is, for example, to acquire location information from an antenna (not shown) compatible with a satellite positioning system such as GPS (location information acquisition unit 33), and then acquire the designated maximum speed for the road on which the vehicle is currently traveling, recorded in a map information database 34 held as car navigation software in the vehicle 1, by the road information unit 35. Note that instead of the map information database 34 in the vehicle 1, a map information database 34 on a network connected via a mobile communication network or the like may be referenced. In this case, the vehicle 1 has a network connection unit for connecting to a network such as a mobile communication network.
[0021] In either method, the acquired designated maximum speed is stored in the memory of the vehicle control unit 20.
[0022] The speed limit notification device 10 of the present invention has an interface unit that notifies the driver of necessary information, displays the information, and accepts operations. The interface unit includes an input unit 41 that accepts operations such as setting changes by the driver, an optical display unit 42 that provides optical displays, and an audio unit 43 that outputs audio.
[0023] The input unit 41 may be a physical device such as a switch or a lever, or may be a touchpad integrated with the optical display unit 42. In particular, it is preferable from the viewpoint of safety and reliability during operation if a dedicated switch that allows easy input while driving is provided in the steering wheel or near the steering wheel or shift lever. This input unit 41 operates the setting reflection unit 40, which will be described later.
[0024] The optical display unit 42 is formed in a configuration that is easily understandable to the driver, such as a monitor made of liquid crystal or organic electroluminescence (EL), a lighting unit that displays digital numbers or meters using light points such as LEDs, an analog meter, etc., and notifies the driver visually. It has at least a designated maximum speed display unit 22 that displays the designated maximum speed acquired by the maximum speed information acquisition unit 21, an effective speed limit display unit 23 that displays a set speed that is a numerical value at which the vehicle control unit 20 imposes restrictions on the vehicle's engine or motor so as not to permit acceleration to a speed higher than that at the current time, and a speed display unit 24 that displays the current speed of the vehicle 1 obtained by the vehicle speed sensor 37. Examples of displays in which the designated maximum speed display unit 22, the effective speed limit display unit 23, the speed display unit 24, and the speeding limit display unit 27 (described later) are arranged on the optical display unit 42 are shown in Figures 2A and 2B. In the situation shown in Fig. 2A, the designated maximum speed (designated maximum speed display unit 22) acquired from a traffic sign or the like is 50 km / h, the set speed currently set for the automobile 1 (enforced speed limit display unit 23) is 80 km / h, and the current traveling speed (speed display unit 24) is 74 km / h. In this case, when the designated maximum speed is reflected in the set speed as shown in Fig. 2B, the vehicle speed exceeds the set speed, resulting in an overspeeding.
[0025] The optical display unit 42 also has an overspeed display unit 27 that provides an optical notification when the actual traveling speed exceeds the set speed. This overspeed display unit 27 is easy for the driver to understand if it is provided close to the speed display unit 24 or is realized by adding an additional display method to the speed display unit 24. For example, a bright light spot 30 is arranged around the numerical portion of the traveling speed shown on the speed display unit 24 to draw attention to the numerical portion, and the light spot 30 is turned on when the traveling speed exceeds the set speed to attract attention, or the numerical portion of the traveling speed shown on the speed display unit 24 itself is made to flash.
[0026] The audio unit 43 mainly notifies the driver's hearing by notification sounds and warning sounds. Specifically, it is composed of an in-vehicle speaker and a sound source that outputs a predetermined sound to the in-vehicle speaker. The notification sound may be a short sound that notifies the driver that the set speed has actually been changed in response to an operation to change the set speed. The warning sound may be a sound that may last a long time and indicates that the driving speed is exceeding the set speed.
[0027] The speed limit notification device 10 of the present invention includes a setting change notification unit 25 that notifies by voice when the set speed is changed, an overspeed warning unit 26 that notifies by voice when the actual driving speed exceeds the set speed, and a setting change not possible notification unit 29 that notifies by voice when the change to the set speed is rejected, all of which are implemented by sounding a predetermined sound from an audio unit 43.
[0028] Of these, the speeding warning sound by the speeding warning unit 26, which notifies the driver that the vehicle is exceeding the speed limit, should be sounded longer than the other notification sounds so that the driver does not miss it. Specifically, the sound should be set to a length of between 2 and 20 seconds. In addition, if the sound by the speeding warning unit 26 is set to stop immediately when the speeding state is resolved, the driver can be notified by the sound being stopped that the speeding state has been resolved.
[0029] Furthermore, the sound from the setting change notification unit 25 and the sound (reject sound) from the setting change impossibility notification unit 29 are different sounds so that the driver can tell them apart when they hear them. However, they may be set to be the same sound played back a different number of times so that they can be distinguished. It is preferable that these sounds are short, about 2 seconds or less, to reduce annoyance.
[0030] The normal behavior of this automobile 1 while traveling is as follows: The vehicle speed obtained from the vehicle speed sensor 37 is displayed in the speed display unit 24 of the optical display unit 42 at any time. In addition, the designated maximum speed for the road on which the vehicle is currently traveling, obtained from the maximum speed information acquisition unit 21, is displayed in the designated maximum speed display unit 22. This designated maximum speed is not automatically reflected in the set speed, but is reflected by the setting reflection unit 40, which receives operation from the driver via the input unit 41. When an operation to reflect the designated maximum speed in the set speed is confirmed, or when the designated maximum speed has been reflected in the set speed, the setting change notification unit 25 emits a notification sound to notify the driver of this.
[0031] When the traveling speed exceeds the set speed, the vehicle control unit 20 does not operate mechanisms that accelerate the vehicle, such as the engine or motor, or suppresses acceleration to prevent further speeding. When traveling on flat ground under normal conditions, if the accelerator is depressed at a time when the traveling speed would exceed the set speed, the vehicle control unit 20 suppresses acceleration, allowing the vehicle to travel within the set speed range.
[0032] However, because acceleration itself becomes difficult if the set speed is too low, there is a lower limit to the set speed. Depending on the vehicle model, the lower limit for the set speed is often around 30 km / h. On roads where the designated maximum speed is set to less than 30 km / h, such as narrow residential roads or parking lots, even if the designated maximum speed is acquired, it cannot be reflected in the set speed. In this case, the speed limit notification device 10 of the present invention rejects the reflected set speed of the designated maximum speed. Here, "rejection" can mean either not changing the set speed at all, or setting it to the lower limit of the settable range but not the designated maximum speed, although the latter is safer. For example, if the lower limit of the set speed range controllable by the vehicle control unit 20 of the vehicle 1 is 30 km / h, and the vehicle is entering a residential road from a national highway with a speed limit of 60 km / h and the reflected set speed is rejected, it is preferable to change the set speed to 30 km / h, but not to 20 km / h. In this case, the set vehicle speed may be changed while being notified by voice or other means that a value different from the road's speed limit will be reflected in the set speed. On the other hand, if the set speed exceeds the upper limit of the controllable set speed range, the change is also rejected. For example, if the image recognition unit 32 incorrectly recognizes the numerical value due to dirt on a road sign or the presence of an obstacle, or if the speed limit is mistakenly recognized as 200 km / h due to a data read error from the map information DB 34, the setting change will be rejected if the set speed range that the vehicle 1 can control is up to the maximum legal speed plus an error.
[0033] Regardless of the form of rejection, the speed limit notification device 10 of the present invention executes the setting change impossibility notification unit 29, which notifies the user by voice from the voice unit 43 when a change to the set speed is rejected. The voice content may be a synthesized sound such as an error sound, a read-out by a synthesized voice, or an explanation by a recorded voice. However, a short notification sound is preferable as it is less annoying.
[0034] Furthermore, the speeding notification device 10 according to the present invention may be configured to have a setting change impossible display unit 28 that, when rejected, displays a message that the application has been rejected on the optical display unit 42. Methods of displaying the message that the application has been rejected include, but are not limited to, displaying a light spot or letters or an icon indicating that the application has been rejected around the designated maximum speed displayed on the designated maximum speed display unit 22 or the set speed displayed on the effective speed limit display unit 23, or changing the display pattern by flashing the numbers for the designated maximum speed or the set speed.
[0035] The speeding notification device 10 according to the present invention suspends the notification of the reject sound, which is issued by the setting change prohibition notification unit 29 and indicates that a change to the set speed has been rejected, while the speeding warning unit 26 issues a speeding warning sound, which is an audio signal indicating that the speeding has been exceeded. An example of the priority relationship between the speeding warning sound and the reject sound on a timeline is shown in FIG. 3 . The horizontal axis represents time t, and the vertical axis represents whether or not the conditions for sounding the reject sound and the speeding warning sound are met, along with the actual sounds that are sounded. When the first condition among the conditions for sounding the reject sound is met, this coincides with the condition for sounding the speeding warning sound, so only the speeding warning sound is sounded without sounding the reject sound. The speeding that should be notified by the speeding warning sound is more important to the driver than the rejection of the set speed. Therefore, the addition of the reject sound to this situation can be an annoyance to the driver. For this reason, while the speeding warning sound is sounding, the notification is stopped so that the rejection sound does not overlap, and the rejection sound is not emitted.
[0036] Furthermore, it is more preferable that the speeding notification device 10 according to the present invention suspends the notification of the reject sound even after the speeding warning sound has finished sounding, but before the predetermined time tr has elapsed. This example shows the establishment of the second condition among the conditions for sounding the reject sound shown in FIG. 3. This is because if the reject sound is issued immediately after the driver feels relieved that the speeding warning sound has finally ended, it may be excessively annoying for the driver. Here, the predetermined time is preferably between 200 ms and 800 ms. This is because it is believed that after such a waiting time, the driver will be able to calm down and listen to the notification to a certain extent.
[0037] When the third condition among the conditions for blowing the reject sound in Figure 3 is met, it does not overlap with the condition for blowing the overspeed warning sound, and the predetermined time tr has also passed, so in this case the reject sound is still blown.
[0038] Furthermore, as shown when the fourth condition among the conditions for sounding the reject sound in FIG. 3 is satisfied, if the speed limit is exceeded while the setting change prohibition notification unit 29 is sounding the reject sound, and the condition for sounding the overspeed warning sound is satisfied, the reject sound may be quickly stopped and the overspeed warning sound may be sounded instead. This situation is shown in the right part of FIG. 3 . This prevents the overspeed warning sound and the reject sound from overlapping. For example, if the vehicle speed unintentionally exceeds the set vehicle speed on a slope while the reject sound is being sounded, the overspeed warning should take priority over the notification of the rejection.
[0039] It is more preferable to have the setting change unchangeable display section 28 on the optical display section 42 display the fact that the setting has been rejected even while the reject sound is stopped, because this allows the driver to calmly confirm that the setting has been rejected without being bothered by the overlapping sounds.
[0040] An example of a flow chart of an embodiment of an automobile 1 equipped with a speeding notification device according to the present invention will be described with reference to Figures 4 and 5. The vehicle control unit 20 processes each function in parallel when the ignition is turned on or the vehicle starts to travel, thereby realizing the speeding notification device according to the present invention as a whole.
[0041] First (S201), when the automobile 1 starts moving (S202), the vehicle control unit 20 executes in parallel, in a multitasking manner, functions related to the effective speed limit display unit 23 (S210 group), functions related to the input unit 41 and the vehicle speed reflection unit 40 (S220 group), and functions related to speeding by the speeding warning unit 26 and the speeding display unit 27 (S230 group).
[0042] Of these, the function related to the effective speed limit display unit 23 (S210 group) executes the maximum speed information acquisition unit 21, which acquires the designated maximum speed for the road being traveled on from the car navigation system's map information database 34, camera 31, etc. (S211). It is determined whether the acquired designated maximum speed differs from the designated maximum speed currently held by the vehicle control unit 20 and displayed in the designated maximum speed display unit 22 (S212). If they differ (S212 → Yes), the designated maximum speed display is updated (S213). This process is continuously executed.
[0043] The functions related to the input unit 41 and the setting reflecting unit 40 (S220 group) executed in parallel execute a function of determining whether to reflect or reject the acquired set speed. The input unit 41 (referred to as a switch in the flow as an example), which is a switch or button that reflects the set speed, continuously waits for the input unit 41 to be turned on (S221 → No). When the input unit 41 is turned on (S221 → Yes), the currently set vehicle speed is compared with the maximum speed information acquired in S210 to determine whether it should be reflected and updated (S222). If the conditions are not rejectable (S222 → Yes), the speed is reflected in the set vehicle speed (S222 → Yes → S223), and the system continues to wait for the input unit 41 to be turned on (S221). On the other hand, if the conditions are rejectable, the system executes a function (S240 group) determining whether to sound the next reject sound.
[0044] The function related to whether or not to sound a reject sound (S240 group) executes the following functions in parallel with the function related to the setting reflecting unit 40. If the conditions for rejection are met in S222 (S222 → Yes), processing is performed to avoid overlapping or succession with the speeding warning sound. If the speeding warning sound is currently being sounded (S241 → Yes), the speeding warning sound takes priority, so the reject sound notification is stopped and not performed (S246). Even if the speeding warning sound is not currently being sounded (S241 → No), if the predetermined time tr has not yet elapsed since the sounding of the speeding warning sound ended (S242 → Yes), the reject sound notification is stopped to avoid successive notifications, i.e., no notification is performed (S246). If the predetermined time tr has elapsed since the last speeding warning sound ended, rather than during the speeding warning sounding, the driver's burden is considered to be sufficient, so the reject sound is emitted (S243).
[0045] If the conditions for sounding the speeding warning sound are met (S245→Yes, which will be handled in the S230 group described later) while the reject sound is being sounded (S244→Yes), the reject sound is stopped (S246) to avoid overlap with the speeding warning sound. If the conditions for sounding the speeding warning sound are not met (S245→No), and the set sounding time for the reject sound has elapsed (S244→No), the reject sound is stopped as set (S246).
[0046] Furthermore, the speeding-related functions (S230 group) of the speeding warning unit 26 and the speeding display unit 27, which are executed in parallel, continue to monitor whether the traveling speed exceeds the set vehicle speed (S231 → No). If the traveling speed exceeds the set vehicle speed (S231 → Yes), the system switches its response depending on whether a predetermined time has passed since the set vehicle speed was updated (S232). If the predetermined time has not passed (S232 → No), it is determined that the speeding is due to the update of the set vehicle speed. Therefore, the system refrains from issuing an audible warning and only displays a warning using the speeding display unit 27 (S233). This visual display continues until a certain time has passed (S234 → No → S235 → Yes). If the speeding state is resolved during that time (S235 → No, corresponding to S123), the warning display is canceled (S238). On the other hand, if the speeding state continues for a certain period of time (S234 → Yes), it is necessary to raise the level of warning to the driver, so the reservation is released and a warning sound is emitted from the speeding warning unit 26 (S236). At this time, if a reject sound has been emitted in the parallel processing of S240 group, the condition of S245 is met.
[0047] On the other hand, if the traveling speed exceeds the set vehicle speed and a predetermined time has already passed since the set vehicle speed was reflected (S232 → Yes), it is determined that this exceedance was not intentional due to the reflection of the set vehicle speed, and an alarm is emitted from the speed exceedance warning unit 26 without reservation (S236, corresponding to S125). In this case, too, if a reject sound has been emitted in the parallel processing of S240 group, the condition of S245 is met.
[0048] In either case, once the warning sound is generated, it continues as long as the speeding state continues (S237→Yes). When the speeding state is resolved (S237→No), the warning sound is stopped (S238). If the warning display on the speeding display unit 27 has been continuing up to this point, the warning display is also canceled.
