[0027] In addition, the present specification also implicitly discloses a computer program, in that it would be apparent to the person skilled in the art that the individual steps of the method described herein may be put into effect by computer code. The computer program is not intended to be limited to any particular programming language and implementation thereof. It will be appreciated that a variety of programming languages and coding thereof may be used to implement the teachings of the disclosure contained herein. Moreover, the computer program is not intended to be limited to any particular control flow. There are many other variants of the computer program, which can use different control flows without departing from the spirit or scope of the disclosure.
[0028] Furthermore, one or more of the steps of the computer program may be performed in parallel rather than sequentially. Such a computer program may be stored on any computer readable medium. The computer readable medium may include storage devices such as magnetic or optical disks, memory chips, or other storage devices suitable for interfacing with a computer. The computer readable medium may also include a hard-wired medium such as exemplified in the Internet system, or wireless medium such as exemplified in the mobile telephone system. The computer program when loaded and executed on such a computer effectively results in an apparatus and / or a device that implements the steps of the preferred method.
[0029] The present disclosure generally contemplates the facilitation and optimization of a network (for example in association with 3GPP based standard / specification etc.) and / or user equipment (UE) efficiency (for example energy efficiency or power saving), in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. Specifically, the present disclosure contemplates the possibility of configuring a user device (or UE) for model training in connection with 3GPP standard(s).
[0030] The present disclosure generally contemplates that the computational resource for User Equipment (UE) or user devices can be important for model training and model inference, for example an Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning(AIML) model. In particular, advanced model learning methods or models such as Split learning, Federated learning, etc. may have certain limitations for such UEs (or user device). The present disclosure thus contemplates that methods on configuring the UE (or user device) for advanced learning models based on its computational capabilities can be useful to facilitate energy efficiency in a network. The present disclosure also contemplates a standardized pre-configuration can be proposed for the UEs (user devices) based on their computational capabilities which is known both to the UE and a base station (e.g. a Next generation Node B gNB).
[0031] The present disclosure generally contemplates that an air-interface for Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning (AIML) model can be implemented in a network (for example in association with 3GPP based standard / specification etc.). Specifically, UE-sided model training data may be collected at Radio Access Network (RAN), for example RAN2 / RAN1. Corresponding contents of UE data collection may be identified and the UE data collection mechanisms may be analyzed along with the implications and limitations of each of the methods.
[0032] The present disclosure also contemplates the UE data collection may be or may not be transparent. Moreover, UE data collection may require numerous computing cycles and memories from the UE. For example, UE data collection for AIML-based channel state information (CSI) compression and prediction may require numerous Central Processing Units (CPUs).
[0033] The present disclosure further contemplates there are three use-cases for consideration in a current network. For example, the three use-cases can be CSI compression and prediction, beam management and AIML Assisted Positioning. It can be appreciated that more than three use-cases are possible and the aforementioned use-cases may not be exhaustive. The number of use-cases for AIML may increase and data collection may become an important aspect of model training. Therefore, the present disclosure contemplates that methods may be required where the dataset transfer is minimal or not needed for model training.
[0034] The present disclosure further contemplates a parallel training method can be implemented in a network to utilize computational resources of the UE (or user device) during model training in a communication network.
[0035] In the above manner, each UE (or user device) may be pre-configured in a standardized manner based on their capabilities and overhead signaling can thus be reduced to minimize signaling of inference. Power saving and energy consumption efficiency can possibly be facilitated in the network, in accordance with an embodiment of the invention.
