AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

In wireless communication networks, particularly in 5G, configuring beam forming parameters for user equipment (UE) is challenging due to complex and timing-sensitive resource allocation, making it difficult for base stations to properly signal these configurations via unicast.

Method used

The UE receives unicast downlink control indicators (DCI) with transport power control (TPC) commands associated with uplink component carriers, using configuration indicators to determine the application of TPC commands based on closed loop power control (CLPC) adjustment states, SRS radio network temporary identifiers, or SRS request fields.

Benefits of technology

This approach enables accurate and efficient signaling of beam forming configurations, improving data upload/download performance by aligning TPC commands with appropriate CLPC adjustment states.

Description

METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR CONFIGURING UE BEHAVIOR FOR UNICAST DCIBACKGROUND

[0001] Aspects of the present disclosure relate generally to wireless communications, and more particularly, to apparatuses and methods for configuring user equipment (UE) behavior for unicast downlink control indicator (DCI) .

[0002] Wireless communication networks are widely deployed to provide various types of communication content such as voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcast, and so on. These systems may be multiple-access systems capable of supporting communication with multiple users by sharing the available system resources (e.g., time, frequency, and power) . Examples of such multiple-access systems include code-division multiple access (CDMA) systems, time-division multiple access (TDMA) systems, frequency-division multiple access (FDMA) systems, orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) systems, and single-carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) systems.

[0003] These multiple access technologies have been adopted in various telecommunication standards to provide a common protocol that enables different wireless devices to communicate on a municipal, national, regional, and even global level. For example, a fifth generation (5G) wireless communications technology (which may be referred to as new radio (NR) ) is envisaged to expand and support diverse usage scenarios and applications with respect to current mobile network generations. In an aspect, 5G communications technology may include: enhanced mobile broadband addressing human-centric use cases for access to multimedia content, services and data; ultra-reliable-low latency communications (URLLC) with certain specifications for latency and reliability; and massive machine type communications, which may allow a very large number of connected devices and transmission of a relatively low volume of non-delay-sensitive information. As the demand for mobile broadband access continues to increase, however, further improvements in NR communications technology and beyond may be desired.

[0004] In a wireless communication network, beam forming has become a dominant technology for increasing data upload / download. Various parameters of the beams may  need to be configured appropriately at the UE. However, signaling the configurations may not be obvious. Given the complexity and the timing of the resources allocated to the UE, it may be challenging for a base station (BS) to properly signal the configurations to the UE via unicast. Therefore, improvements may be desirable.SUMMARY

[0005] The following presents a simplified summary of one or more aspects in order to provide a basic understanding of such aspects. This summary is not an extensive overview of all contemplated aspects, and is intended to neither identify key or critical elements of all aspects nor delineate the scope of any or all aspects. Its sole purpose is to present some concepts of one or more aspects in a simplified form as a prelude to the more detailed description that is presented later.

[0032] A BS 105, whether a small cell 105’ or a large cell (e.g., macro base station) , may include an eNB, gNodeB (gNB) , or other type of base station. Some base stations, such as gNB 180 may operate in one or more frequency bands within the electromagnetic spectrum. The electromagnetic spectrum is often subdivided, based on frequency / wavelength, into various classes, bands, channels, etc. In 5G NR two initial operating bands have been identified as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz – 7.125 GHz) and FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) . The frequencies between FR1 and FR2 are often referred to as mid-band frequencies. Although a portion of FR1 is greater than 6 GHz, FR1 is often referred to (interchangeably) as a “Sub-6 GHz” band in various documents and articles. A similar nomenclature issue sometimes occurs with regard to FR2, which is often referred to (interchangeably) as a “millimeter wave” (mmW) band in documents and articles, despite being different from the extremely high frequency (EHF) band (30 GHz –300 GHz) which is identified by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) as a “millimeter wave” band.

[0033] With the above aspects in mind, unless specifically stated otherwise, it should be understood that the term “sub-6 GHz” or the like if used herein may broadly represent frequencies that may be less than 6 GHz, may be within FR1, or may include mid-band frequencies. Further, unless specifically stated otherwise, it should be understood that the term “millimeter wave” or the like if used herein may broadly represent frequencies that may include mid-band frequencies, may be within FR2, or may be within the EHF band. Communications using the mmW  / near mmW radio frequency band has extremely high path loss and a short range. The mmW base station 180 may utilize beamforming 182 with the UE 110 to compensate for the path loss and short range.

[0056] Also, for example, one or more filters 396 may be used by RF front end 388 to filter a received signal to obtain an input RF signal. Similarly, in an aspect, for example, a respective filter 396 may be used to filter an output from a respective PA 398 to produce an output signal for transmission. In an aspect, each filter 396 may be coupled with a specific LNA 390 and / or PA 398. In an aspect, RF front end 388 may use one or more switches 392 to select a transmit or receive path using a specified filter 396, LNA 390, and / or PA 398, based on a configuration as specified by transceiver 302 and / or processor 312.

[0057] As such, transceiver 302 may be configured to transmit and receive wireless signals through one or more antennas 365 via RF front end 388. In an aspect, transceiver may be tuned to operate at specified frequencies such that BS 105 may communicate with, for example, the UE 110 or one or more cells associated with one or more BS 105. In an aspect, for example, the modem 320 may configure transceiver 302 to operate at a specified frequency and power level based on the base station configuration of the BS 105 and the communication protocol used by the modem 320.

[0058] In an aspect, the modem 320 may be a multiband-multimode modem, which may process digital data and communicate with transceiver 302 such that the digital data is sent and received using transceiver 302. In an aspect, the modem 320 may be multiband and be configured to support multiple frequency bands for a specific communications protocol. In an aspect, the modem 320 may be multimode and be configured to support multiple operating networks and communications protocols. In an aspect, the modem 320 may control one or more components of the BS 105 (e.g., RF front end 388, transceiver 302) to enable transmission and / or reception of signals from the network based on a specified modem configuration. In an aspect, the modem configuration may be based on  the mode of the modem and the frequency band in use. In another aspect, the modem configuration may be based on base station configuration associated with the BS 105.

[0059] FIG. 4 illustrates an example of the communication network 100 according to aspects of the present disclosure. Specifically, the communication network 100 may be an uplink (UL) dense communication network having asymmetric DL / UL densification. The UL dense communication network may be deployed in order to improve coverage  / capacity of UL. In some aspects, the UE 110 UL signals / channels are received by the UL Rx point 105’ (which may be TRPs configured for UL-only) . DL signals / channels transmitted from the BS 105 may be from a different node (e.g. Macro node, central node, serving cell, serving BS etc. ) . UL Rx points may be connected to the Macro node via backhaul. This network configuration may reduce the UL path loss (PL) , which is helpful when UL coverage is the bottleneck, and may improve deployment cost  / complexity since UL Rx points do not transmit any DL signal (UL RX points receive UL signal and send it to the Macro node with or without any processing) .

[0060] In some aspects of the present disclosure, the sounding reference signal (SRS) power control may be described with the following equation:

[0061] The SRS power control may be measured in the unit of decibel milliwatts (dBm) . Here, hb, f, c (i, l) =fb, f, c (i, l) , where fb, f, c (i, l) is the current physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) power control adjustment state if srs-PowerControlAdjustmentStates indicates a same power control adjustment state for SRS transmissions and PUSCH transmissions. Alternatively,  if the UE 110 is not configured for PUSCH transmissions on active UL bandwidth part (BWP) b of carrier f of serving cell or if srs-PowerControlAdjustmentStates indicates separate power control adjustment states between SRS transmissions and PUSCH transmissions, and if tpc-Accumulation is not provided. The parameter δSRS, b, f, c (m) is jointly coded with other transport power control (TPC) commands in a PDCCH with DCI format 2_3. The element srs-PowerControlAdjustmentStates indicates same adjustment states for SRS and PUSCH (and if same, first or second adjustment states, l=0, 1 ) or separate adjustment state. In the case of separate adjustment state for SRS, only one closed loop  index (one adjustment state) may be defined for SRS, i.e., no l in the function h (. ) . In the case of separate adjustment state for SRS, TPC commands may be indicated in DCI format 2_3.

[0062] An aspect of the present disclosure may include how to indicate TPC command for those two SRS closed loop power control (CLPC) adjustment states through DCI when the UE is configured with two SRS CLPC adjustment states. Example options are shown below. Option 1 may include enhancing the legacy DCI format 2_3 of higher layer parameter srs-TPC-PDCCH-Group = TypeA. Option 2 may include enhancing the legacy DCI format 2_3 of higher layer parameter srs-TPC-PDCCH-Group = TypeB. Option 3 may include enhancing the legacy DCI format 2_3 of higher layer parameter srs-TPC-PDCCH-Group = TypeA and TypeB. Option 4 may include enhancing DCI format 1_1 and / or 0_1 to indicate TPC for SRS CLPC adjustment states. Option 5 may include enhancing the legacy DCI format 2_3 by introducing a Type for higher layer parameter srs-TPC-PDCCH-Group. Option 6 may include implementing a DCI format to indicate TPC for SRS CLPC adjustment states. Other options may also be implemented.

[0063] Some aspects include the following alternatives to indicate TPC command. In DCI format 2_3, a first alternative (Alt. 1) includes adding one additional TPC command for each CC configured with two SRS CLPC adjustment states. The first TPC command is associated with the first SRS CLPC adjustment state and the second TPC command is associated with the second SRS CLPC adjustment state.

[0064] In some aspects of the present disclosure, a second alternative (Alt. 2) introduces one 1-bit closed-loop-indicator field for each TPC command in DCI format 2_3. This 1-bit closed-loop-indicator indicates the first SRS CLPC adjustment state or the second SRS CLPC adjustment state.

[0065] Some aspects of the present disclosure include a third alternative (Alt. 3) , which uses two different TPC-SRS-RNTIs for DCI format 2_3. DCI format 2_3 with CRC scrambled with the first TPC-SRS-RNTI and the second TPC-SRS-RNTI each indicates the TPC command for the first SRS CLPC adjustment state and the second SRS CLPC adjustment state, respectively. In some aspects, a fourth alternative (Alt. 4) includes using indicators based on frame or slot numbers where the DCI test rates are received, and / or based on a SRS request.

[0066] In a first scheme of the present disclosure, a TPC command for two SRS CLPC adjustment states in unicast DCI may be used. For example, the first scheme may include adding new TPC command (s) field for SRS TPC command. This new TPC command (s) field may exist if two SRS CLPC adjustment states are configured for each CC.

[0067] FIGs. 5A-5B illustrate examples of explicit indications for associating SRS TPC command for multiple SRS CLPC adjustment states. The unicast DCI may be DCI format 1_1, DIC 1_2, DCI 0_1, and / or DCI 0_2. Other formats may also be possible. In some aspects, a first indicator 500 may include 4 bits and two TPC commands. The first TPC command may be associated with the first SRS CLPC adjustment state and the second TPC command may be associated with the second SRS CLPC adjustment state.

[0068] In another aspect, a second indicator 550 may include a 1-bit closed-loop indicator field and 2-bits TPC command. The value of the closed-loop indicator field may indicate which of the SRS CLPC adjustment state the TPC command is associated with. For example, if the closed-loop indicator has a value of “0” the TPC command may be associated with the first SRS CLPC adjustment state. If the closed-loop indicator has a value of “1” the TPC command may be associated with the second SRS CLPC adjustment state.

[0069] FIG. 6 illustrates an example of implicit indication for associating SRS TPC command for multiple SRS CLPC adjustment states. In some aspects of the present disclosure, a third indicator 600 may include 2 bits and one TPC command. The third indicator 600 may use two different RNTIs for two SRS CLPC adjustment states. If the unicast DCI is cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled with the first RNTI, the TPC command is associated with the first SRS CLPC adjustment state. If the unicast DCI is CRC scrambled with the second RNTI, the TPC command is associated with the second SRS CLPC adjustment state.

[0070] In a second scheme of the present disclosure, the association between the TPC command and the SRS CLPC adjustment states may be determined based on the resource location of the unicast DCI. For example, the TPC command field may include 2 bits and one TPC command. If the unicast DCI is allocated within odd slot / sub-frame / system frame numbers, the TPC command may be associated with the first SRS CLPC adjustment state. Alternative, if the unicast DCI is allocated within even slot / sub-frame / system frame numbers, the TPC command may be associated with the second SRS  CLPC adjustment state. Other methods of signaling the TPC command association may also be used. For example, the association of the TPC command to the first SRS CLPC adjustment state may be signaled by placing the unicast DCI in the even slot / sub-frame / system frame numbers and the association of the TPC command to the second SRS CLPC adjustment state may be signaled by placing the unicast DCI in the odd slot / sub-frame / system frame numbers.

[0071] In a third scheme of the present disclosure, the association of the TPC command and the SRS CLPC adjustments states may be indicated based on the SRS request field. The TPC command field may include 2 bits and one TPC command. Whether it is applied to the first or second SRS CLPC adjustment state may depend on the triggered SRS resource sets (SRS request field) .

[0072] FIG. 7 illustrates an example of a diagram 700 showing SRS resource sets allocations. If all triggered SRS resource sets (ones that map to the indicated codepoint of SRS request field) are configured with the first SRS CLPC adjustment state (SRS resource sets #1, 2, 3, and 4) , then the TPC command is applied to first SRS CLPC adjustment state. If all triggered SRS resource sets are configured with the second SRS CLPC adjustment state (SRS resource sets #5, 6, 7, and 8) , then the TPC command is applied to second SRS CLPC adjustment state.

[0073] In one aspect of the present disclosure, if the SRS resource set (s) associated with one SRS CLPC adjustment state includes aperiodic and periodic and / or semi-persistent SRS resource sets, and if the network intends to adjust the close loop power control of periodic and / or semi-persistent SRS resource sets, the network may trigger an aperiodic SRS resource sets transmission.

[0074] In certain aspects of the present disclosure, if all triggered SRS resource sets (the ones that map to the indicated codepoint of SRS request field) are configured with second SRS CLPC adjustment state, the TPC command may be applied to second SRS CLPC adjustment state.

[0075] In one aspect of the present disclosure, if some triggered SRS resource sets are configured with first SRS CLPC adjustment state and other triggered SRS resource sets are configured with second SRS CLPC adjustment state, a fixed rule may be applied. For example, the TPC command may be applied to first SRS CLPC adjustment state, to the SRS CLPC adjustment state that is configured for the SRS resource set with the lowest  or highest ID among the triggered SRS resource sets, or to both first and second SRS CLPC adjustment states. Other fixed rules may also be implemented according to aspects of the present disclosure. In some aspects, the SRS TPC command may apply to the triggered SRS resource sets only.

[0076] FIG. 8 illustrates an example of a diagram 800 showing configured SRS resources. The TPC command field may include 2 bits and one TPC command. Whether it is applied for the first or second SRS CLPC adjustment state may depend on the triggered SRS resource sets. If the SRS request field is set to “00” (i.e., no SRS resource set is triggered) , the TPC command may apply to a given SRS CLPC adjustment state where all SRS resource set (s) associated with the given SRS CLPC adjustment state are periodic or semi-persistent. In one aspect, this scheme may apply when all SRS resource set (s) associated with one SRS CLPC adjustment state are periodic or semi-persistent only, i.e., no aperiodic SRS resource set is configured for this SRS CLPC adjustment state.

[0077] FIG. 9 illustrates an example of a diagram 900 showing the timing of the configured SRS resources for the scheme indicated in FIG. 8. Here, if the SRS resource set(s) associated with each of the SRS CLPC adjustment states are periodic or semi-persistent only, the TPC command is applied to the SRS CLPC adjustment state associated with the next nearest SRS transmission occasion which satisfies the processing delay. Specifically, as shown in FIG. 9, the DCI is temporarily closest to the SRS resource set #1. As such, the TPC command is applied to the first SRS CLPC adjustment state.

[0078] According to a second scheme of the present disclosure, when DCI format 0_1 with CRC is scrambled with CS-RNTI and does not schedule a PUSCH, the TPC command in DCI format 0_1 may apply for the SRS CLPC adjustment. Here, the values of the following DCI fields are set as follows: redundancy version (RV) = all ‘1’s , modulation and coding scheme (MCS) = all ‘1’s, set to ‘0’s for frequency-domain resource allocation (FDRA) type 0 or dynamicSwitch, and / or set to all ‘1’s for FDRA type 1. The new data indicator (NDI) may be interpreted as a as closed-loop-indicator. One or more other fields may be reserved.

[0079] A third scheme according to aspects of the present disclosure may include indicating the TPC command in unicast DCI for a single separate SRS CLPC adjustment state. The third scheme may add a TPC command field for the SRS TPC command. The TPC command field may exist if srs-PowerControlAdjustmentStates is configured with  separateCloseLoop. When DCI format 0_1 with CRC is scrambled with CS-RNTI and does not schedule a PUSCH, the TPC command may apply for SRS CLPC adjustment. Here, the values of the following DCI fields are set as follows: RV = all ‘1’s, MCS = all ‘1’s, set to ‘0’s for frequency-domain resource allocation (FDRA) type 0 or dynamicSwitch, and / or set to all ‘1’s for FDRA type 1. The new data indicator (NDI) may be ‘0’ . One or more other fields may be reserved.

[0080] According to a fourth scheme of the present disclosure, whether the SRS TPC command is present in unicast DCI can be radio resource control (RRC) configured per DCI format. The network may enable the SRS TPC command in unicast DCI depending on the remaining payload size of each DCI format.

[0081] FIG. 10 illustrates an example of a method for configuring uplink component carriers. For example, a method 1000 may be performed by the one or more of the processor 212, the memory 216, the applications 275, the modem 220, the transceiver 202, the receiver 206, the transmitter 208, the RF front end 288, the communication component 222, the identification component 226 and / or the configuration component 226, and / or one or more other components of the UE 110 in the wireless communication network 100.

[0082] At block 1005, the method 1000 may receive a unicast downlink control indicator (DCI) indicating one or more transport power control (TPC) commands each being associated with an uplink (UL) component carrier (CC) of one or more UL CCs, at least one UL CC of the one or more UL CCs being configured with at least one of a plurality closed loop power control (CLPC) adjustment states. For example, the communication component 222, the transceiver 202, the receiver 206, the transmitter 208, the RF front end 288, the subcomponents of the RF front end 288, the processor 212, the memory 216, the modem 220, and / or the applications 275 of the UE 110 may receive a unicast downlink control indicator (DCI) indicating one or more transport power control (TPC) commands each being associated with an uplink (UL) component carrier (CC) of one or more UL CCs, at least one UL CC of the one or more UL CCs being configured with at least one of a plurality closed loop power control (CLPC) adjustment states as described above. The RF front end 288 may receive the electrical signals converted from electro-magnetic signals. The RF front end 288 may filter and / or amplify the electrical signals. The  transceiver 202 or the receiver 206 may convert the electrical signals to digital signals, and send the digital signals to the communication component 222.

[0083] In certain implementations, the communication component 222, the transceiver 202, the receiver 206, the transmitter 208, the RF front end 288, the subcomponents of the RF front end 288, the processor 212, the memory 216, the modem 220, and / or the applications 275 may be configured to and / or may define means for receiving a unicast downlink control indicator (DCI) indicating one or more transport power control (TPC) commands each being associated with an uplink (UL) component carrier (CC) of one or more UL CCs, at least one UL CC of the one or more UL CCs being configured with at least one of a plurality closed loop power control (CLPC) adjustment states.
