Description

METHOD AND SYSTEM OF COORDINATING COMMUNICATION BETWEEN CELLS IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION NETWORKTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present disclosure relates generally to the field of wireless communication; and more specifically, to a method and a system of coordinating communication between a first cell and a second cell in a wireless communication network.BACKGROUND

[0002] In contemporary telecommunications, the imperative of network energy conservation has attained paramount importance due to its multifaceted significance encompassing environmental sustainability, mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions, and substantial operational cost savings. The imminent advent of communication networks in the future, an advancement from 5G, heralds a paradigm shift towards accommodating increasingly sophisticated services and applications necessitating exceedingly high data rates, such as extended reality (XR) . Consequently, communication networks in the future are anticipated to evolve towards denser deployments, employing a multitude of antennas, wider bandwidths, and an expanded array of frequency bands. Given this trajectory, it becomes imperative to maintain stringent control over the environmental footprint of communication networks in the future, prompting the necessity for innovative solutions geared towards enhancing network energy efficiency. Notably, the escalating energy consumption has emerged as a pivotal component of operators'operational expenditure (OPEX) . Energy expenditures within mobile networks constitute lot of the total operator costs, with a significant proportion emanating from the radio access network, particularly attributed to the Active Antenna Unit (AAU) . Moreover, ancillary contributors to energy consumption encompass data centers and fiber transport, albeit to a lesser extent. The power consumption within a radio access network can be split into two distinct components: a dynamic part, exclusively utilized during active data transmission and reception, and a static part, perpetually engaged to sustain the operational functionality of radio access devices, even during dormant periods devoid of data transmission and reception. Therefore, novel solutions are required to improve network energy savings and ensure environmental sustainability while meeting the demands of advanced mobile services.

[0003] In the general domain of network energy saving, there are several challenges and prior art that have been addressed. The prior art has focused on reducing energy consumption during idle or inactive mode of User Equipment (UE) by optimizing the signaling and control procedures. The Release 19 (Rel 19) of 3GPP is studying and possibly will specify the introduction of on-demand System Information Block Type 1 (SIB1) transmission to UEs in idle or inactive mode, for reducing energy consumption. To support the on-demand SIB1 dissemination to User Equipments (UEs) in idle or inactive mode, various signaling mechanisms are required. The key facets encompassed within the on-demand SIB1 dissemination include triggering methodologies utilizing uplink wake-up signals, configuring wake-up  signals provisionally to UEs, facilitating information exchange between gNBs (i.e., gNodeBs) , and establishing a normative framework to guide subsequent standardization efforts. Furthermore, recent research endeavors have delved into a granular exploration of SIB1 Information Elements (IEs) , elucidating critical parameters governing UE behavior and system functionality. These investigations have revealed constraints on SIB1 size, highlighted key informational payloads essential for initial uplink access, and underscored the delineation between cell-specific and area-specific SIB configurations, thereby laying a foundational understanding for subsequent research and standardization endeavors. Nevertheless, it is imperative to acknowledge existing limitations within the network architecture, notably concerning the Xn interface. While current interfaces between gNBs facilitate the exchange of certain SIB1 Information Elements (IEs) , inherent constraints preclude the comprehensive exchange of all IEs. Notably, barring IEs remain unsupported within current specifications, underscoring the requirement for further refinement and evolution within the network architecture to address emergent challenges and imperatives.

[0004] Therefore, in light of the foregoing discussion, there exists a need to overcome the aforementioned drawbacks associated with the conventional network architecture supporting the on-demand SIB1 transmission.SUMMARY

[0005] The present disclosure provides a method and a system of coordinating communication between a first cell and a second cell in a wireless communication network to enhance network efficiency and resource allocation by facilitating cooperative decision-making between cells. The present disclosure provides a solution to the existing problem of a conventional network architecture, which inefficiently support the on-demand SIB1 transmission to UEs. An aim of the present disclosure is to provide a solution that overcomes at least partially the problems encountered in prior art, and provide an improved method and system of coordinating communication between a first cell and a second cell in a wireless communication network.

[0006] The object of the present disclosure is achieved by the solutions provided in the enclosed independent claims. Advantageous implementations of the present disclosure are further defined in the dependent claims.

[0007] In one aspect, the present disclosure provides a method of coordinating communication between a first cell and a second cell in a wireless communication network, comprising steps carried out at the first cell of exchanging information with the second cell, the information including at least portions of a first System Information Block, SIB, used by the first cell, initiating a cooperation decision with the second cell, whereby the first cell and the second cell cooperatively decide whether to enter into a communication relationship, and whether to use parameters of the first SIB used by the first cell or parameters of a second SIB used by the second cell, and a length of time over which such  communication will take place, entering into the communication relationship over the wireless communication network, when the first cell and the second cell cooperatively decide to enter into the communication relationship and ending the communication relationship after the length of time has expired or upon an occurrence of one or more specific conditions.

[0008] The disclosed method enables an efficient communication coordination between the first cell and the second cell and ensures that the first cell and the second cell align their respective parameters and cooperate effectively. This leads to improved network performance and maximizes the resource utilization. Secondly, the disclosed method allows for on-demand first SIB (i.e., SIB1) design and WUS configuration and provides flexibility in adapting to the changing network conditions. The synergistic combination of exchanging information, cooperative decision-making, and communication relationship management, ensure seamless collaboration between the first cell and the second cell, and maximize the network efficiency and adaptability.

[0009] In an implementation form, when the first cell is a Network Energy Saving cell, the first cell exchanges information which includes a Wake Up Signal, WUS, configuration and a time period during which the first cell is to remain in a Network Energy Saving mode.

[0010] The information exchange between the first cell and the second cell increases the correlation between their respective SIBs. The more the SIBs are correlated, the more the WUS configuration is minimized, resulting in more network energy saving.

[0011] In a further implementation form, the first cell and the second cell are each part of a separate base station.

[0012] In a further implementation form, the first cell and the second cell are each part of the same base station.

[0013] In a further implementation form, one of the specific conditions is a determination that traffic conditions of the second cell are altered.

[0014] This is advantageous to maintain a balanced distribution of network load on each cell.

[0015] In a further implementation form, one of the specific conditions is based on power consumption at the second cell.

[0016] The consideration of power consumption as a condition for cooperation between the cells lead to maintain a balanced distribution of network load and prevents overburdening of cells with low power levels.

[0017] In a further implementation form, a preliminary step is carried out where the first cell declares to the second cell that the first cell is requesting to be a Network Energy Saving cell, or this declaration is made by a centralised controller.

[0018] The declaration of the first cell to become the network energy saving cell enables an efficient energy saving in the network by allowing other cells in the network, such as the second cell, to dynamically adjust their behavior based on power consumption.

[0019] In a further implementation form, the cooperation decision includes aligning SIB, information element, IE, of the first cell with a SIB IE of the second cell.

[0020] By aligning the SIB IE of the first cell and the SIB IE of second cell, the coordination and cooperation between the first cell and the second cell is enhanced. Furthermore, the alignment of SIB IEs between the first cell and the second cell supports the design of on-demand SIB1 and the WUS configuration. In a further implementation form, the parameters of the first SIB include a baring parameter or an Extended Discontinuous Reception, eDRX, parameter.

[0021] The inclusion of the baring parameter and the eDRX parameter in the first SIB allows efficient signalling and support of on-demand first SIB (i.e., SIB1) transmission for UEs in idle or inactive mode.

[0022] In a further implementation form, the WUS configuration includes parameters specific to the first cell or second cell.

[0023] The inclusion of parameters specific to each cell in the WUS configuration enables a customized and optimized signalling and configuration for each cell.

[0024] In a further implementation form, the parameters of the first SIB include an area scope of a baring parameter.

[0025] The inclusion of the area scope of the baring parameter in the first SIB enables the UE to receive and process the SIB information accurately based on its applicability within the SI area.

[0026] In a further implementation form, the first cell triggers the ending of the communication relationship. In a further implementation form, the first cell is a Network Energy Saving cell and triggers the ending of the communication relationship based on traffic conditions at the first cell.

[0027] This is advantageous in terms of efficient network energy saving and maximize the overall network performance.

[0028] In another aspect, the present disclosure provides a system comprising means adapted for carrying out all the steps of the method.

[0029] The system achieves all the advantages and effects of the method after execution of the method.

[0030] In a yet another aspect, the present disclosure provides a computer program comprising instructions for carrying out all the steps of the method, when said computer program is executed on a computer system.

[0031] The computer program achieves all the advantages and effects of the method after execution of the method.

[0032] It is to be appreciated that all the aforementioned implementation forms can be combined.

[0033] It has to be noted that all devices, elements, circuitry, units and means described in the present application could be implemented in the software or hardware elements or any kind of combination thereof. All steps which are performed by the various entities described in the present application as well as the functionalities described to be performed by the various entities are intended to mean that the respective entity is adapted to or configured to perform the respective steps and functionalities. Even if, in the following description of specific embodiments, a specific functionality or step to be performed by external entities is not reflected in the description of a specific detailed element of that entity which performs that specific step or functionality, it should be clear for a skilled person that these methods and functionalities can be implemented in respective software or hardware elements, or any kind of combination thereof. It will be appreciated that features of the present disclosure are susceptible to being combined in various combinations without departing from the scope of the present disclosure as defined by the appended claims.

[0034] Additional aspects, advantages, features and objects of the present disclosure would be made apparent from the drawings and the detailed description of the illustrative implementations construed in conjunction with the appended claims that follow.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0041] The following detailed description illustrates embodiments of the present disclosure and ways in which they can be implemented. Although some modes of carrying out the present disclosure have been disclosed, those skilled in the art would recognize that other embodiments for carrying out or practicing the present disclosure are also possible.

[0042] FIG. 1 is a network environment diagram of a system of coordinating communication between a first cell and a second cell in a wireless communication network, in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure. With reference to FIG. 1, there is shown a system 100 of coordinating communication between a first cell 102 and a second cell 104 in a wireless communication network 106. There is provided the system 100 to enhance communication coordination between the first cell 102 and the second cell 104 in the wireless communication network 106.

[0043] As an example, each of the first cell 102 and the second cell 104 may be referred to as a ‘Next Generation NodeB (gNB) ’. In the context of telecommunications, specifically within the framework of 5G and beyond, a gNB refers to a base station or access point in a Radio Access Network (RAN) . The gNB serves as a key component in the 5G RAN, responsible for transmitting and receiving radio signals to and from user equipments (UEs) , such as smartphones, tablets, or IoT devices. The gNB facilitates communication between the UEs and the core network, enabling various 5G services and applications. The gNB is designed to support advanced features and capabilities introduced with 5G technology, including higher data rates, ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC) , massive machine-type communication (mMTC) , and enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) .

[0044] The wireless communication network 106 includes a medium (e.g., a communication channel) through which the first cell 102, potentially communicates with the second cell 104. Examples of the wireless communication network 106 may include, but are not limited to, a cellular network, such as a 5G, or 5G NR network, such as sub 6 GHz, cmWave, or mmWave communication network, and the like.

[0045] There is provided the system 100 for coordinating communication between the first cell 102 and the second cell 104 in the wireless communication network 106. The first cell 102 is configured to exchange information with the second cell 104, the information including at least portions of a first System Information Block (SIB) used by the first cell 102. The System Information Block (SIB) typically, refers to a specific type of information element in wireless communication systems that contains essential system parameters and configuration information required for appropriate operation and communication between network infrastructure and user equipments (e.g., mobile devices) . The exchanged information is used to make decisions regarding cooperation between first cell 102 and the second cell 104 and alignment of parameters between the first cell 102 and the second cell 104. The exchanged information facilitates the design of on-demand first SIB (may also be represented as SIB1) transmission and design of Wake up signal (WUS) configuration. The exchanged information may also be used to determine whether a cell can act as an anchor cell (or cell A) and agrees on parameters, such as duration, conditions that could halt cooperation, and the WUS configuration to be sent.

[0046] In accordance with an embodiment, when the first cell 102 is a Network Energy Saving cell, the first cell 102 exchanges information which includes a Wake Up Signal (WUS) , configuration and a time period during which the first cell 102 is to remain in a Network Energy Saving mode. In an implementation scenario, the first cell 102 may be used as the Network Energy Saving (NES) cell and the second cell 104 may be used as the cell A (i.e., the Anchor cell for the NES cell) . The Network Energy Saving cell (NES) cell refers to a specific cell within a wireless communication network that is designed to conserve energy by reducing power consumption during periods of low activity. The NES cell is configured to transmit the first SIB (i.e., SIB1) in response to an uplink (UL) WUS received from a UE. The Anchor cell refers to a cell that is configured to periodically transmit its own SIB. The Wake Up Signal (WUS) refers to a signal sent by the UE to wake up the first cell 102 (i.e., the NES cell) from a low-power state in order to establish or resume communication. The exchanged information between the first cell 102 and the second cell 104 increases the correlation between SIBs of the NES cell and the cell A. The more the SIBs are correlated, the more the WUS configuration is minimized, resulting in reduced power consumption of the network archirecture.

[0047] In accordance with an embodiment, a preliminary step is carried out where the first cell 102 declares to the second cell 104 that the first cell 102 is requesting to be a Network Energy Saving cell, or this declaration is made by a centralised controller. The declaration of the first cell 102 to the second cell 104 to become the Network Energy Saving Cell, can be made either periodically or driven based on certain conditions. Such declaration enables an efficient energy saving in the network by allowing cells  to dynamically adjust their behavior based on power consumption. For example, if the power level of the first cell 102 decreases, for example, due to activated electromagnetic field (EMF) feature, the first cell 102 can declare to the second cell 104 to become the NES cell thereby, reducing the corresponding coverage area and conserving power. The declaration to become the NES cell can be made either by the first cell 102 itself or by the centralised controller, depending on an application scenario. The centralized controller is not shown in FIG. 1, for sake of brevity.

[0048] The first cell 102 is further configured to initiate a cooperation decision with the second cell 104, whereby the first cell 102 and the second cell 104 cooperatively decide whether to enter into a communication relationship, and whether to use parameters of the first SIB used by the first cell 102 or parameters of a second SIB used by the second cell 104, and a length of time over which such communication will take place. The cooperation decision between the first cell 102 (i.e., the NES cell) and the second cell 104 (i.e., the cell A) is based on the correlation of information between the first SIB (i.e., SIB1) and the second SIB (may also be represented as SIB2) . The correlation between the first SIB (i.e., SIB1) and the second SIB (i.e., SIB2) may include alignment of differences between the two SIBs. The cooperation duration and cooperation termination conditions are also determined during the alignment process.

[0049] In accordance with an embodiment, the cooperation decision includes aligning SIB, information element (IE) of the first cell 102 with a SIB IE of the second cell 104. The cooperation decision includes the alignment of the SIB IE of the first cell 102 with the SIB IE of the second cell 104, for example cell baring IEs over the Xn interface. This alignment process includes comparing and matching the parameters of the first SIB (i.e., SIB1) with the second SIB (i.e., SIB2) used by the first cell 102 and the second cell 104, respectively. By aligning the SIB IE of the first cell 102 and the SIB IE of second cell 104, the coordination and cooperation between the first cell 102 and the second cell 104 is enhanced. The alignment process also facilitates the selection of a more suitable cell A (i.e., the second cell 104) that exhibits a higher correlation with the first SIB used by the first cell 102, leading to an improved overall performance and efficiency of system 100. Furthermore, the alignment of SIB IEs between the first cell 102 and the second cell 104 supports the design of on-demand SIB1 and the WUS configuration. The cooperation decision determines whether a cell (e.g., the second cell 104) can act as a cell A or not, and establishes agreements on various parameters, such as duration of cooperation, conditions that can stop cooperation, and the specific WUS configuration to be sent and how it can be sent.

[0050] In accordance with an embodiment, the parameters of the first SIB include a baring parameter or an Extended Discontinuous Reception (eDRX) parameter. Generally, the baring parameter may be referred to as a parameter used in wireless communication systems to determine the conditions under which a device is allowed to access the network. The Extended Discontinuous Reception (eDRX) refers to a power-saving mechanism in cellular networks that allows devices to periodically enter a sleep mode to  conserve energy while still maintaining the ability to receive incoming messages. The cooperation decision is made based on the correlation between SIBs of the first cell 102 and the second cell 104 and SIB IEs changes negotiation, ensuring alignment of differences between various parameters of SIBs, such as baring, eDRX and DRX parameters and measurement related IEs, such as ConnEstFailureControl IEs, etc. The cooperation duration and termination conditions are also determined during the alignment process. The inclusion of the baring parameter and eDRX parameter in the first SIB (i.e., SIB1) allows efficient signalling and support of on-demand first SIB (i.e., SIB1) transmission for UEs in idle or inactive mode. This ensures that UEs receive the required information for initial access channels or signals transmission and configuration of the initial uplink Bandwidth Part (BWP) . The size of the first SIB (i.e., SIB1) is limited to a maximum of 2976 bits to ensure that the UE does not receive Physical Downlink Shared Channel (PDSCH) assignments with excessive Transport Block Size (TBS) scrambled by SI-RNTI. The inclusion of other parameters in the first SIB (i.e., SIB1) , such as n-TimingAdvanceOffset, tdd-UL-DL-ConfigurationCommon, ss-PBCH-BlockPower, and cellSelectionInfo, provides additional information for the UE's operation.

[0051] In accordance with an embodiment, the parameters of the first SIB include an area scope of a baring parameter. The area scope of the baring parameter indicates whether a SIB or possSIB is cell specific or area specific. The cell specific SIB is applicable only within the cell providing the SIB, while the area specific SIB is applicable within a specific area, known as SI area. The SI area consists of one or several cells and is identified by systemInformationAreaID. Any SIB with an area scope within the SI area is considered to belong to this systemInformationAreaID. The inclusion of the area scope of the baring parameter in the first SIB (i.e., SIB1) enables the UE to receive and process the SIB information accurately based on its applicability within the SI area.

[0052] In accordance with an embodiment, the WUS configuration includes parameters specific to the first cell 102 or second cell 104. The inclusion of parameters specific to each cell in the WUS configuration enables a customized and optimized signalling and configuration for each cell. By tailoring the parameters to the characteristics and requirements of each cell, the WUS configuration can be minimized, leading to a reduced signalling overhead and an improved efficiency of the system 100.

[0053] The first cell 102 is further configured to enter into the communication relationship over the wireless communication network 106, when the first cell 102 and the second cell 104 cooperatively decide to enter into the communication relationship. The cooperative decision to enter into the communication relationship is based on various parameters, such as the traffic conditions of the second cell 104 (i.e., the cell A) and its ability to assist the first cell 102 (i.e., the NES cell) . If the traffic conditions of the second cell 104 do not allow the second cell 104 to provide further assistance to the first cell 102 (i.e., the NES cell) , more connected UEs are directed to the second cell 104. The decision to cooperate between cells and align the parameters is made to facilitate the design of on-demand first SIB (i.e., SIB1) transmission and the WUS configuration. By mutually agreeing to enter into the communication relationship, the first  cell 102 and the second cell 104 can effectively allocate resources and provide assistance to each other based on the traffic conditions. This improves the quality of service for connected UEs and optimizes network utilization.

[0054] In accordance with an embodiment, the first cell 102 and the second cell 104 are each part of a separate base station. This step supports in assessing the capability of the second cell 104 to act as an Anchor cell (i.e., the cell A) for the first cell 102 (i.e., the NES cell) and thereby, ensures an efficient utilization of resources and enables seamless coordination between the first cell 102 (i.e., the NES cell) and the candidate cells for being cell A.

[0055] In accordance with an embodiment, the first cell 102 and the second cell 104 are each part of the same base station. By increasing the correlation between the SIBs used by the first cell 102 (i.e., the NES cell) and the second cell 104 (i.e., the cell A) , or by selecting a more suitable cell A with higher correlation between the SIBs, this step enhances the coordination and functionality of the first cell 102 (i.e., the NES cell) .

[0056] The first cell 102 is further configured to end the communication relationship after the length of time has expired or upon an occurrence of one or more specific conditions. The end of the communication relationship is required to ensure an efficient coordination and cooperation between the first cell 102 and the second cell 104. The end of the communication relationship between the first cell 102 and the second cell 104 ensures optimal resource allocation and power management, leading to improved network performance and enhanced user experience.

[0057] In accordance with an embodiment, one of the specific conditions is a determination that traffic conditions of the second cell 104 are altered. In an implementation scenario, the first cell 102 may be configured to end the communication relationship with the second cell 104 because of inability of the second cell 104 to assist the first cell 102 (i.e., the NES cell) due to either unfavourable traffic conditions at the second cell 104 or an increase in connected UEs to the second cell 104 (i.e., the cell A) , or a decrease in coverage area of the second cell 104 due to power consumption or activation of specific features, like EMF.

[0058] In accordance with an embodiment, one of the specific conditions is based on power consumption at the second cell 104. In an implementation scenario, the first cell 102 may be configured to end the communication relationship with the second cell 104 when the power level of the second cell 104 (i.e., the cell A) becomes low and the second cell 104 may not be able to effectively support the first cell 102 (i.e., the NES cell) and provide sufficient coverage to connected UEs. By considering power consumption as a condition for cooperation between the cells, the system 100 ensures that cells with sufficient power levels are selected to support NES cells. This further supports in maintaining a balanced distribution of network load and prevents overburdening of cells with low power levels.

[0059] In accordance with an embodiment, the first cell 102 triggers the ending of the communication relationship. In an implementation scenario, the first cell 102 may be configured to trigger the end of the communication relationship with the second cell 104 because of unfavourable traffic conditions on itself. In accordance with an embodiment, the first cell 102 is a Network Energy Saving cell and triggers the ending of the communication relationship based on traffic conditions at the first cell 102. In an implementation scenario, the first cell 102 acting as the NES cell has high triggering ratio of the first SIB (i.e., SIB1) , if the triggering ratio is higher than a certain threshold then, this means that NES gains cannot be maintained and then, on-demand first SIB (i.e., SIB1) transmission can be terminated.

[0060] Thus, the system 100 enables an efficient coordination between cells that is the first cell 102 (i.e., the NES cell) and the second cell 104 (i.e., the cell A) and ensures that the first cell 102 and the second cell 104 align their respective parameters and cooperate effectively. This leads to improved network performance and maximize the resource utilization. Secondly, the system 100 allows for on-demand first SIB (i.e., SIB1) design and WUS configuration and provide flexibility in adapting the changing network conditions. The synergistic combination of exchanging information, cooperative decision-making, and communication relationship management, ensure seamless collaboration between the first cell 102 and the second cell 104, and maximize network efficiency and adaptability.

[0061] FIG. 2 is a flowchart of a method of coordinating communication between a first cell and a second cell in a wireless communication network, in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure. FIG. 2 is described in conjunction with elements from FIG. 1. With reference to FIG. 2, there is shown a method 200 of coordinating communication between the first cell 102 and the second cell 104 communicating over the wireless communication network 106. The method 200 includes steps 202 to 208. The first cell 102 and the second cell 104 (of FIG. 1) of the system 100 are configured to execute the method 200.

[0062] There is provided the method 200 of coordinating communication between a first cell (e.g., the first cell 102) and a second cell (e.g., the second cell 104) in a wireless communication network (e.g., the wireless communication network 106) , comprising steps carried out at the first cell 102.

[0063] At step 202, the method 200 comprises exchanging information with the second cell 104, the information including at least portions of a first System Information Block (SIB) used by the first cell 102. The first cell 102 is configured to exchange the information with the second cell 104 and the exchanged information may include portions of the first SIB (i.e., SIB1) , the WUS configuration and time to spend in the network energy saving mode which may be few hours or days etc.

[0064] In accordance with an embodiment, when the first cell 102 is a Network Energy Saving cell, the first cell 102 exchanges information at the step 202 which includes a Wake Up Signal (WUS) configuration and a time period during which the first cell 102 is to remain in a Network Energy Saving mode. In an  implementation scenario, the first cell 102 may be used as the Network Energy Saving (NES) cell. In case of using the first cell 102 as the NES cell, the exchanged information includes the WUS configuration, the time period during which the first cell 102 remains in the NES mode (for example, hours, days, etc. ) , baring parameter, and the like. Moreover, when the first cell 102 enters the NES mode, the first cell 102 is required not to transmit legacy first SIB (i.e., SIB1) rather required to transmit portions of the first SIB on-demand from UEs. The NES mode can be enabled or disabled based on either network planning decision or local decision taken by the first cell 102 or on-demand from the second cell 104 (i.e., the cell A) in certain conditions, such as coverage holes or degradation in service, and the like.

[0065] In accordance with an embodiment, a preliminary step is carried out where the first cell 102 declares to the second cell 104 that the first cell 102 is requesting to be a Network Energy Saving cell, or this declaration is made by a centralised controller. The declaration of the first cell 102 to the second cell 104 to become the Network Energy Saving Cell, can be made either periodically or driven based on certain conditions. The declaration to become the NES cell can be made either by the first cell 102 itself or by the centralised controller, depending on an application scenario.

[0066] At step 204, the method 200 further comprises initiating a cooperation decision with the second cell 104, whereby the first cell 102 and the second cell 104 cooperatively decide whether to enter into a communication relationship, and whether to use parameters of the first SIB used by the first cell 102 or parameters of a second SIB used by the second cell 104, and a length of time over which such communication will take place. The cooperation decision between the first cell 102 and the second cell 104 is based on the correlation of information between the first SIB (i.e., SIB1) and the second SIB (i.e., SIB2) . The higher the correlation between the first SIB (i.e., SIB1) of the first cell 102 (i.e., the NES cell) and the second SIB (i.e., SIB2) of the second cell 104 (i.e., the cell A) , better is the network energy saving. The correlation between SIBs enables transmission of on-demand first SIB (i.e., SIB1) transmission with less IEs and smaller WUS configuration IEs resulting in more energy saving.

[0067] In accordance with an embodiment, the cooperation decision includes aligning SIB, information element (IE) of the first cell 102 with a SIB IE of the second cell 104. The cooperation decision includes the alignment of the SIB IE of the first cell 102 with the SIB IE of the second cell 104. The alignment of the SIB IE of the first cell 102 with the SIB IE of the second cell 104 supports the design of WUS configuration. The cooperation decision determines whether a cell (e.g., the second cell 104) can act as a cell A or not, and establishes agreements on various parameters, such as duration of cooperation, conditions that can stop cooperation, and the specific WUS configuration to be sent and how it can be sent. The cooperation decision may also determine whether a cell (e.g., the first cell 102) can act as a NES cell or not, and establishes agreements on various parameters, such as duration of cooperation, conditions that can stop cooperation, and the specific WUS configuration to be sent and how it can be sent.

[0068] In accordance with an embodiment, the parameters of an SIB include a baring parameter or an Extended Discontinuous Reception (eDRX) parameter. The cooperation decision is made based on the correlation between SIBs of the first cell 102 and the second cell 104 and SIB IEs changes negotiation, ensuring alignment of differences between various parameters of SIBs, such as baring, eDRX and DRX parameters, and measurement related IEs, such as ConnEstFailureControl IEs, etc.

[0069] In accordance with an embodiment, the parameters of the first SIB include an area scope of a baring parameter. The area scope of the baring parameter indicates whether a SIB or possSIB is cell specific or area specific. The inclusion of the area scope of the baring parameter in the first SIB (i.e., SIB1) enables the UE to receive and process the SIB information accurately based on its applicability within the SI area. In an implementation scenario, the first cell 102 may broadcast its own barring parameters of itself. Moreover, the first cell 102 may also indicate the area scope of the baring parameter, e.g., a set of physical cell identifiers (PCIs) for which the first cell 102 and the second cell 104 share the same baring parameters. The area scope can be even for dedicated baring, for example, for (e) RedCap, National Telecommunication Number (NTN) , NES etc.

[0070] In accordance with an embodiment, the WUS configuration includes parameters specific to the first cell 102 or second cell 104. The inclusion of parameters specific to each cell in the WUS configuration enables a customized and optimized signalling and configuration for each cell.

[0071] At step 206, the method 200 further comprises entering into the communication relationship over the wireless communication network 106, when the first cell 102 and the second cell 104 cooperatively decide to enter into the communication relationship. The cooperative decision to enter into the communication relationship is based on various parameters, such as the traffic conditions of the second cell 104 and its ability to assist the first cell 102 (i.e., the NES cell) . The decision to cooperate between cells and align the parameters is made to facilitate the design of on-demand first SIB (i.e., SIB1) transmission and the WUS configuration.

[0072] In accordance with an embodiment, the first cell 102 and the second cell 104 are each part of a separate base station. This step supports in assessing the capability of the second cell 104 to act as an Anchor cell (i.e., the cell A) for the first cell 102 (i.e., the NES cell) and thereby, ensures an efficient resource utilization.

[0073] In accordance with an embodiment, the first cell 102 and the second cell 104 are each part of the same base station.

[0074] At step 208, the method 200 further comprises ending the communication relationship after the length of time has expired or upon an occurrence of one or more specific conditions. The end of the communication relationship between the first cell 102 and the second cell 104 ensures optimal resource allocation and power management, leading to improved network performance and enhanced user experience.

[0075] In accordance with an embodiment, one of the specific conditions is a determination that traffic conditions of the second cell 104 are altered. In an implementation scenario, the first cell 102 may be configured to end the communication relationship with the second cell 104 because of inability of the second cell 104 to assist the first cell 102 (i.e., the NES cell) due to either unfavourable traffic conditions at the second cell 104 or an increase in connected UEs to the second cell 104.

[0076] In accordance with an embodiment, one of the specific conditions is based on power consumption at the second cell 104. In an implementation scenario, the first cell 102 may be configured to end the communication relationship with the second cell 104 when the power level of the second cell 104 becomes low and the second cell 104 may not be able to effectively support the first cell 102 (i.e., the NES cell) and provide sufficient coverage to connected UEs.

[0077] In accordance with an embodiment, the first cell 102 triggers the ending of the communication relationship. In an implementation scenario, the first cell 102 may be configured to trigger the end of the communication relationship with the second cell 104 because of unfavourable traffic conditions on the first cell 102 (i.e., the NES cell) .

[0078] In accordance with an embodiment, the first cell 102 is a Network Energy Saving cell and triggers the ending of the communication relationship based on traffic conditions at the first cell 102.

[0079] The steps 202 to 208 are only illustrative, and other alternatives can also be provided where one or more steps are added, or one or more steps are provided in a different sequence without departing from the scope of the claims herein.

[0081] FIG. 3 is a sequential diagram that depicts a sequence of operations of coordinating communication between a first cell and a second cell in a wireless communication network, in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure. FIG. 3 is described in conjunction with elements from FIGs. 1 and 2. With reference to FIG. 3, there is shown a sequential diagram 300 depicting a sequence of operations 306 to 318. There is further shown a first UE 302 camped on the first cell 102 (i.e., the NES cell) and a second UE 304 camped on the second cell 104 (i.e., the cell A) .

[0082] At operation 306, the first cell 102 (i.e., the NES cell) is configured to exchange the information with the second cell 104 (i.e., the cell A) . The exchanged information may include portions of the first SIB (i.e., SIB1) , the WUS configuration and time to spend in the NES mode.

[0083] At operation 308, the first cell 102 (i.e., the NES cell) is configured to initiate a cooperation decision with the second cell 104 (i.e., the cell A) to enter into a communication relationship. The cooperation decision is based on the information correlation between the first SIB (i.e., SIB1) and the second SIB (i.e., SIB2) used by the first cell 102 and the second cell 104, respectively. The cooperation decision includes the alignment of various parameters of a SIB, such as alignment of the SIB IE of the first cell 102 with the SIB IE of the second cell 104, alignment of baring parameter, eDRX and DRX parameter, etc.

[0084] At operation 310, legacy first SIB (i.e., SIB1) transmission is carried out on all beams by the first cell 102 (i.e., the NES cell) because, feature of on-demand SIB1 transmission is not activated yet.

[0085] At operation 312, legacy second SIB (i.e., SIB2) transmission is carried out on all beams by the second cell 104 (i.e., the cell A) because, feature of on-demand SIB1 transmission is not activated yet.

[0086] At operation 314, the feature of on-demand SIB1 transmission is activated. Alternatively stated, the first cell 102 entered the NES mode. In the NES mode, the first cell 102 is required to transmit portions of the first SIB on-demand from UEs. The on-demand transmission of portions of the first SIB (i.e., SIB1) result in energy saving of the first cell 102. The on-demand SIB1 may be either a legacy SIB1 or a compressed version of the legacy SIB1 or a combination of both (i.e., the legacy SIB1 and the compressed version of the legacy SIB1) based on WUS configuration.

[0087] At operation 316, the first cell 102 is configured to end the communication relationship with the second cell 104 based on either the length of time has expired or unfavourable traffic conditions on the second cell 104 or increased power consumption at the second cell 104.

[0088] At operation 318, the feature of on-demand SIB1 transmission is deactivated.

[0089] Modifications to embodiments of the present disclosure described in the foregoing are possible without departing from the scope of the present disclosure as defined by the accompanying claims. Expressions such as "including" , "comprising" , "incorporating" , "have" , "is" used to describe and claim the present disclosure are intended to be construed in a non-exclusive manner, namely allowing for items, components or elements not explicitly described also to be present. Reference to the singular is also to be construed to relate to the plural. The word "exemplary" is used herein to mean "serving as an example, instance or illustration" . Any embodiment described as “exemplary” is not necessarily to be construed as preferred or advantageous over other embodiments and / or to exclude the incorporation of features from other embodiments. The word "optionally" is used herein to mean "is provided in some embodiments and not provided in other embodiments" . It is appreciated that certain features of the present disclosure, which are, for clarity, described in the context of separate embodiments, may also be provided in combination in a single embodiment. Conversely, various features of the present disclosure, which are, for brevity, described in the context of a single embodiment, may also be provided separately or in any suitable combination or as suitable in any other described embodiment of the disclosure.
