[0049] The one or more UEs 104 may be devices in different forms or having different capabilities. Some examples of UEs 104 are illustrated in FIG. 1A. A UE 104 may be capable of communicating with various types of devices, such as the network entities 102, other UEs 104, or network equipment (e.g., the core network 106, the packet data network 108, a relay device, an integrated access and backhaul (IAB) node, or another network equipment) , as shown in FIG. 1A. Additionally, or alternatively, a UE 104 may support communication with other network entities 102 or UEs 104, which may act as relays in the wireless communications system 100.

[0050] A UE 104 may also be able to support wireless communication directly with other UEs 104 over a communication link 114. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a device-to-device (D2D) communication link. In some implementations, such as vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) deployments, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) deployments, or cellular-V2X deployments, the communication link 114 may be referred to as a sidelink. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a communication interface.

[0051] A network entity 102 may support communications with the core network 106, or with another network entity 102, or both. For example, a network entity 102 may interface with the core network 106 through one or more backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an S1, N2, N2, or another network interface) . The network entities 102 may communicate with each other over the backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an X2, Xn, or another network interface) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 may communicate with each other directly (e.g., between the network entities 102) . In some other implementations, the network entities 102 may communicate with each other or indirectly (e.g., via the core network 106) . In some implementations, one or more network entities 102 may include subcomponents, such as an access network entity, which may be an example of an access node controller (ANC) . An ANC may communicate with the one or more UEs 104 through one or more other access network transmission entities, which may be referred to as a radio heads, smart radio heads, or transmission-reception points (TRPs) .

[0052] In some implementations, a network entity 102 may be configured in a disaggregated architecture, which may be configured to utilize a protocol stack physically or logically distributed among two or more network entities 102, such as an integrated access backhaul (IAB) network, an open Radio Access Network (O-RAN) (e.g., a network configuration sponsored by the O-RAN Alliance) , or a virtualized RAN (vRAN) (e.g., a cloud RAN (C-RAN) ) . For example, a network entity 102 may include one or more of a central unit (CU) , a distributed unit (DU) , a radio unit (RU) , a RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) (e.g., a Near-Real Time RIC (Near-RT RIC) , a Non-Real Time RIC (Non-RT RIC) ) , a Service Management and Orchestration (SMO) system, or any combination thereof.

[0053] An RU may also be referred to as a radio head, a smart radio head, a remote radio head (RRH) , a remote radio unit (RRU) , or a transmission reception point (TRP) . One or more components of the network entities 102 in a disaggregated RAN architecture may be co-located, or one or more components of the network entities 102 may be located in distributed locations (e.g., separate physical locations) . In some implementations, one or more network entities 102 of a disaggregated RAN architecture may be implemented as virtual units (e.g., a virtual CU (VCU) , a virtual DU (VDU) , a virtual RU (VRU) ) .

[0054] Split of functionality between a CU, a DU, and an RU may be flexible and may support different functionalities depending upon which functions (e.g., network layer functions, protocol layer functions, baseband functions, radio frequency functions, and any combinations thereof) are performed at a CU, a DU, or an RU. For example, a functional split of a protocol stack may be employed between a CU and a DU such that the CU may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the DU may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. In some implementations, the CU may host upper protocol layer (e.g., a layer 3 (L3) , a layer 2 (L2) ) functionality and signalling (e.g., RRC, service data adaption protocol (SDAP) , Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) ) . The CU may be connected to one or more DUs or RUs, and the one or more DUs or RUs may host lower protocol layers, such as a layer 1 (L1) (e.g., physical (PHY) layer) or an L2 (e.g., radio link control (RLC) layer, MAC layer) functionality and signalling, and may each be at least partially controlled by the CU.

[0055] Additionally, or alternatively, a functional split of the protocol stack may be employed between a DU and an RU such that the DU may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the RU may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. The DU may support one or multiple different cells (e.g., via one or more RUs) . In some implementations, a functional split between a CU and a DU, or between a DU and an RU may be within a protocol layer (e.g., some functions for a protocol layer may be performed by one of a CU, a DU, or an RU, while other functions of the protocol layer are performed by a different one of the CU, the DU, or the RU) .

[0056] A CU may be functionally split further into CU control plane (CU-CP) and CU user plane (CU-UP) functions. A CU may be connected to one or more DUs via a midhaul communication link (e.g., F1, F1-c, F1-u) , and a DU may be connected to one or more RUs via a fronthaul communication link (e.g., open fronthaul (FH) interface) . In some implementations, a midhaul communication link or a fronthaul communication link may be implemented in accordance with an interface (e.g., a channel) between layers of a protocol stack supported by respective network entities 102 that are in communication via such communication links.

[0057] The core network 106 may support user authentication, access authorization, tracking, connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The core network 106 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) , or a 5G core (5GC) , which may include a control plane entity that manages access and mobility (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME) , an access and mobility management functions (AMF) ) and a user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW) , a Packet Data Network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , or a user plane function (UPF) ) . In some implementations, the control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management (e.g., data bearers, signal bearers, etc. ) for the one or more UEs 104 served by the one or more network entities 102 associated with the core network 106.

[0058] The core network 106 may communicate with the packet data network 108 over one or more backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an S1, N2, N2, or another network interface) . The packet data network 108 may include an application server 118. In some implementations, one or more UEs 104 may communicate with the application server 118. A UE 104 may establish a session (e.g., a protocol data unit (PDU) session, or the like) with the core network 106 via a network entity 102. The core network 106 may route traffic (e.g., control information, data, and the like) between the UE 104 and the application server 118 using the established session (e.g., the established PDU session) . The PDU session may be an example of a logical connection between the UE 104 and the core network 106 (e.g., one or more network functions of the core network 106) .

[0059] In the wireless communications system 100, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may use resources of the wireless communications system 100 (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) ) to perform various operations (e.g., wireless communications) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different resource structures. For example, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different frame structures. In some implementations, such as in 4G, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support a single frame structure. In some other implementations, such as in 5G and among other suitable radio access technologies, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures (i.e., multiple frame structures) . The network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures based on one or more numerologies.

[0060] One or more numerologies may be supported in the wireless communications system 100, and a numerology may include a subcarrier spacing and a cyclic prefix. A first numerology (e.g., μ=0) may be associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. In some implementations, the first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with the first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may utilize one slot per subframe. A second numerology (e.g., μ=1) may be associated with a second subcarrier spacing (e.g., 30 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A third numerology (e.g., μ=2) may be associated with a third subcarrier spacing (e.g., 60 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix or an extended cyclic prefix. A fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) may be associated with a fourth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 120 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A fifth numerology (e.g., μ=4) may be associated with a fifth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 240 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix.

[0061] A time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to frames (also referred to as radio frames) . Each frame may have a duration, for example, a 10 millisecond (ms) duration. In some implementations, each frame may include multiple subframes. For example, each frame may include 10 subframes, and each subframe may have a duration, for example, a 1 ms duration. In some implementations, each frame may have the same duration. In some implementations, each subframe of a frame may have the same duration.

[0062] Additionally or alternatively, a time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to slots. For example, a subframe may include a number (e.g., quantity) of slots. The number of slots in each subframe may also depend on the one or more numerologies supported in the wireless communications system 100. For instance, the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth numerologies (i.e., μ=0, μ=1, μ=2, μ=3, μ=4) associated with respective subcarrier spacings of 15 kHz, 30 kHz, 60 kHz, 120 kHz, and 240 kHz may utilize a single slot per subframe, two slots per subframe, four slots per subframe, eight slots per subframe, and 16 slots per subframe, respectively. Each slot may include a number (e.g., quantity) of symbols (e.g., OFDM symbols) . In some implementations, the number (e.g., quantity) of slots for a subframe may depend on a numerology. For a normal cyclic prefix, a slot may include 14 symbols. For an extended cyclic prefix (e.g., applicable for 60 kHz subcarrier spacing) , a slot may include 12 symbols. The relationship between the number of symbols per slot, the number of slots per subframe, and the number of slots per frame for a normal cyclic prefix and an extended cyclic prefix may depend on a numerology. It should be understood that reference to a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may be used interchangeably between subframes and slots.

[0063] In the wireless communications system 100, an electromagnetic (EM) spectrum may be split, based on frequency or wavelength, into various classes, frequency bands, frequency channels, etc. By way of example, the wireless communications system 100 may support one or multiple operating frequency bands, such as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz –7.125 GHz) , FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) , FR3 (7.125 GHz –24.25 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz –114.25 GHz) , FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz –71 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz –300 GHz) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may perform wireless communications over one or more of the operating frequency bands. In some implementations, FR1 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for cellular communications traffic (e.g., control information, data) . In some implementations, FR2 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for short-range, high data rate capabilities.

[0064] FR1 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least three numerologies) . For example, FR1 may be associated with a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) , which includes 15 kHz subcarrier spacing; a second numerology (e.g., μ=1) , which includes 30 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing. FR2 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least 2 numerologies) . For example, FR2 may be associated with a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) , which includes 120 kHz subcarrier spacing.

[0065] Artificial intelligence (AI)  / machine learning (ML) has been studied for mobility in NR. Study and evaluate potential benefits and gains of AI / ML aided mobility for network triggered L3-based handover, considering AI / ML based radio resource management (RRM) measurement and event prediction, such as cell-level measurement prediction including intra and inter-frequency (UE sided and NW sided model) , handover (HO) failure / RLF prediction (UE sided model) , Measurement events prediction (UE sided model) . In 3GPP release 19, it is under study to support the RRM prediction using AI / ML technique. The AI / ML model can be located in UE side or NW side. The RRM prediction can be either cell level or beam level measurement prediction in temporal domain, spatial domain, or frequency domain. The RRM prediction in temporal domain, e.g., predict the measurement result in the future for set A cell / beam using measurement result in the past of set B cell / beam (set A can be a subset of set B) .

[0066] Some examples of temporal domain RRM prediction are shown in FIG. 1B and FIG. 1C. In case A as shown in FIG. 1B, the prediction is based on the measurements of over a period time. In case B as shown in FIG. 1C, the measurement and the prediction are performed alternately. In the both cases above, if the prediction is performed, then the measurement at the same time point will be skipped. The RRM prediction in spatial domain e.g., predict the measurement result for set A cell / beam using measurement result of set B cell / beam at the same time instance (set A can be different set as set B, or a superset of set B) , wherein set A cell / beam and set B cell / beam are of the same frequency. The associated cells could be collocated. The RRM prediction in frequency domain, e.g., predict the measurement result for set A cell / beam using measurement result of set B cell / beam at the same time instance (set A can be different set as set B, or a superset of set B) , wherein set A cell / beam and set B cell / beam are of different frequencies.

[0067] In an RRC_CONNECTED state, the UE measures multiple beams (at least one) of a cell and the measurements results (power values) are averaged to derive the cell quality. In doing so, the UE is configured to consider a subset of the detected beams. Filtering takes place at two different levels: at the physical layer to derive beam quality and then at RRC level to derive cell quality from multiple beams. Cell quality from beam measurements is derived in the same way for the serving cell (s) and for the non-serving cell (s) . Measurement reports may contain the measurement results of the X best beams if the UE is configured to do so by the gNB.

[0070] CondEvent T1 means that time measured at UE becomes more than configured threshold t1-Threshold but is less than t1-Threshold + duration. Event X1 means that serving L2 U2N Relay UE becomes worse than absolute threshold1 AND NR Cell becomes better than another absolute threshold2. Event X2 means that serving L2 U2N Relay UE becomes worse than absolute threshold. For event I1, measurement reporting event is based on CLI measurement results, which can either be derived based on SRS-RSRP or CLI-RSSI. Event I1 means that interference becomes higher than absolute threshold. The reporting events concerning Aerial UE altitude are labelled HN with N equal to 1 and 2. Additionally, the reporting events concerning Aerial UE altitude and the neighboring cell measurements simultaneously are labelled AMHN with M equal to 3, 4, 5 and N equal to 1, 2. Event H1 means that Aerial UE altitude becomes higher than a threshold. Event H2 means that Aerial UE altitude becomes lower than a threshold.

[0071] Event A3H1 means that neighbour becomes offset better than SpCell and the Aerial UE altitude becomes higher than a threshold. Event A3H2 means that neighbour becomes offset better than SpCell and the Aerial UE altitude becomes lower than a threshold. Event A4H1 means that neighbour becomes better than threshold1 and the Aerial UE altitude becomes higher than a threshold2. Event A4H2 means that neighbour becomes better than threshold1 and the Aerial UE altitude becomes lower than a threshold2. Event A5H1 means that SpCell becomes worse than threshold1 and neighbour becomes better than threshold2 and the Aerial UE altitude becomes higher than a threshold3. Event A5H2 means that SpCell becomes worse than threshold1 and neighbour becomes better than threshold2 and the Aerial UE altitude becomes lower than a threshold3.

[0072] Among the RRM events above, Event A3 is that neighbour becomes amount of offset better than PCell / PSCell. For Event A3 the UE may consider the entering condition for this event to be satisfied when condition A3-1, as specified below, is fulfilled; consider the leaving condition for this event to be satisfied when condition A3-2, as specified below, is fulfilled; and use the SpCell for Mp, Ofp and Ocp. It should be noted that the cell (s) that triggers the event has reference signals indicated in the measObjectNR associated to this event which may be different from the NR SpCell measObjectNR.

[0073] Inequality A3-1, i.e. the entering condition is as below: Mn + Ofn + Ocn - Hys > Mp + Ofp + Ocp + Off

[0074] Inequality A3-2, i.e. the leaving condition is as below: Mn + Ofn + Ocn + Hys < Mp + Ofp + Ocp + Off

[0075] The variables in the formula are defined as below. Mn is the measurement result of the neighbouring cell, not taking into account any offsets. Ofn is the measurement object specific offset of the reference signal of the neighbour cell (i.e. offsetMO as defined within measObjectNR corresponding to the neighbour cell) . Ocn is the cell specific offset of the neighbour cell (i.e. cellIndividualOffset as defined within measObjectNR corresponding to the frequency of the neighbour cell, or cellIndividualOffset as defined within reportConfigNR) , and set to zero if not configured for the neighbour cell. Mp is the measurement result of the SpCell, not taking into account any offsets. Ofp is the measurement object specific offset of the SpCell (i.e. offsetMO as defined within measObjectNR corresponding to the SpCell) . Ocp is the cell specific offset of the SpCell (i.e. cellIndividualOffset as defined within measObjectNR corresponding to the SpCell) , and is set to zero if not configured for the SpCell. Hys is the hysteresis parameter for this event (i.e. hysteresis as defined within reportConfigNR for this event) . Off is the offset parameter for this event (i.e. a3-Offset as defined within reportConfigNR for this event) . Mn, Mp are expressed in dBm in case of RSRP, or in dB in case of RSRQ and RS-SINR. Ofn, Ocn, Ofp, Ocp, Hys, Off are expressed in dB. It should be noted that the definition of Event A3 may also be applied to CondEvent A3.

[0076] UE may perform RRM event prediction and trigger an RRM measurement report in case of an RRM event predicted, however, it is unclear what will be the UE behavior after reporting the predicted RRM event and relevant measurement prediction to the NW. For example, such issues #1 and #2 as below are needed to be solved. Issue#1 is whether the UE can continue predicting the future RRM event after e.g., reporting a predicted RRM event to NW. If the UE can continue the predicting, then there is a possible scenario that a future prediction is different than a previously reported prediction. The UE may trigger another report to send the new prediction result, but too frequent reporting is needed to be avoided. If the UE cannot continue the predicting, then the UE need not skip any measurement instances if the UE previously did so (e.g., in temporal domain prediction case B) , then the NW can rely on measurement-based reporting. Issue#2 is whether the UE can continue skipping measurement instances after certain RRM event is detected (e.g., T310 is running or A3 event is detected) . It is better not, since when a link quality is bad, it could be safer to rely on actual measurement based operation. It could be upon NW’s configuration.

[0077] In view of the above analysis and discussions, some embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution for supporting measurement related prediction, such as enhancement of UE behavior during measurement related prediction. In an aspect of the solution, a UE receives, from a network device, configuration information for prediction of at least one of a layer 1 (L1) measurement, an L1 event, a layer 3 (L3) measurement or an L3 event. The UE determines whether to perform at least one operation. The at least one operation comprises stopping skipping at least one measurement instance associated with the L1 measurement or the L3 measurement, stopping the prediction, or continuing the prediction, or any combination thereof. Various aspects of the solution of the present disclosure enable the issues above may be resolved. Principles and implementations of embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to FIGS. 2-9.

[0078] FIG. 2 illustrates an example signaling diagram illustrating an example process that supports measurement related prediction, such as enhancement of UE behavior during measurement related prediction, in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. In some examples, the measurement related prediction may be L1 measurement related prediction. In some examples, the measurement related prediction may be L3 measurement related prediction, e.g. RRM related prediction. As shown in FIG. 2, a UE 201 and a network device 202 are involved in a process 200. In some examples, an example of the network device 202 may be a network entitiy, e.g. the network entitiy 102, a base station (BS) , or a gNB, etc. The network device 202 may be also referred to as NW in some examples. The UE 201 may be an example of the UE 104.

[0079] In the process 200, the network device 202 transmits (212) , to the UE 201, configuration information 205 (or referred to as first configuration information 205) for prediction (or referred to as first prediction hereinafter) of a layer 1 (L1) measurement, an L1 event, a layer 3 (L3) measurement, an L3 event, or any combination thereof. The UE 201 receives (214) the configuration information 205 for the prediction of the L1 measurement, the L1 event, the L3 measurement, the L3 event, or any combination thereof. Then the UE 201 determines (216) whether to perform at least one operation. The at least one operation may comprise stopping skipping at least one measurement instance associated with the L1 measurement or the L3 measurement, stopping the prediction, or continuing the prediction, or any combination thereof.

[0080] In some examples, if the UE 201 performs the prediction based on the configuration information 205, the UE 201 may transmit, to the network device 202, a predicted L1 event and associated L1 measurement result or L1 predicted measurement result, or a predicted L3 event and associated L3 measurement result or L3 predicted measurement result. Accordingly, the network device 202 may receive the predicted L1 event and associated L1 measurement result or L1 predicted measurement result, or the predicted L3 event and associated L3 measurement result or L3 predicted measurement result.

[0081] The UE 201 may determine whether to perform the at least one operation in various ways. Specifically, in some examples, the UE 201 may determine whether an L1 event or an L1 measurement result is predicted. If the L1 event or the L1 measurement result is predicted, the UE 201 determines to perform the at least one operation. Otherwise, the UE 201 determines not to perform the at least one operation. Additionally or alternatively, the UE 201 may determine whether an L3 event or an L3 measurement result is predicted. If yes, the UE 201 determines to perform the at least one operation. Otherwise, the UE 201 determines not to perform the at least one operation. Additionally or alternatively, the UE 201 may determine whether a predicted L1 event and associated L1 measurement result or L1 predicted measurement result have been reported. If yes, the UE 201 determines to perform the at least one operation. Otherwise, the UE 201 determines not to perform the at least one operation. Additionally or alternatively, the UE 201 may determine whether a predicted L3 event and associated L3 measurement result or L3 predicted measurement result have been reported. If yes, the UE 201 determines to perform the at least one operation. Otherwise, the UE 201 determines not to perform the at least one operation.

[0082] The UE 201 may determine whether to perform the at least one operation above based on NW configuration. For example, in some examples, the configuration information 205 may comprise an indication (may be referred to as a first indication) of whether to perform the at least one operation above. Based on the indication in the configuration information 205, the UE 201 may determine whether to perform the at least one operation. In some other examples, The UE 201 may determine whether to perform the at least one operation above by being specified by protocols.

[0083] In a case that the UE 201 determines to stop skipping the at least one measurement instance, specifically, the UE 201 may determine to stop skipping the at least one measurement instance based on one or more of a set of conditions (may be referred to as a first set of conditions) . In some examples, the first set of conditions comprise an L1 measurement result being below a second threshold, an L3 measurement result being below a third threshold, an L1 measurement result being above a fourth threshold, an L3 measurement result being above a fifth threshold, a radio link failure (RLF) related timer (e.g. T310 timer) being running, an entering condition of an L1 event being satisfied, or an entering condition of an L3 event being satisfied, or any combination thereof.

[0084] In a case that the UE 201 determines to stop skipping the at least one measurement instance, the UE 201 may further determine to resume skipping the at least one measurement instance. Specifically, the UE 201 may determine to resume skipping the at least one measurement instance based on one or more of a set of conditions (may be referred to as a second set of conditions) . In some examples, the second set of conditions comprise an L1 measurement result being above a second threshold, an L3 measurement result being above a third threshold, an L1 measurement result being below a fourth threshold, an L3 measurement result being below a fifth threshold, a radio link failure (RLF) related timer (e.g. T310 timer) stopping running, an leaving condition of an L1 event being satisfied, or an leaving condition of an L3 event being satisfied, or any combination thereof.

[0085] The UE 201 determines to stop skipping the at least one measurement instance based on some conditions as described in some examples above. In addition, the UE 201 may determines to stop skipping the at least one measurement instance further based on determining that skipping the at least one measurement instance has been configured previously.

[0086] In some examples, the UE 201 determines to stop skipping the at least one measurement instance based on the NW configuration. For example, the first indication may indicate stopping skipping the at least one measurement instance based on an L1 measurement result being below a second threshold, an L3 measurement result being below a third threshold, an L1 measurement result being above a fourth threshold, an L3 measurement result being above a fifth threshold, a radio link failure (RLF) related timer being running, an entering condition of an L1 event being satisfied, or an entering condition of an L3 event being satisfied or any combination thereof. The second threshold, third threshold, fourth threshold, or fifth threshold, or any combination thereof may be configured by the network device 202. In some other examples, the UE 201 may determine stop skipping the at least one measurement instance according to the way (s) specified by protocols.

[0087] In some examples, the UE 201 determines to resume skipping the at least one measurement instance based on the NW configuration. For example, the network device 202 may transmit a third indication of resuming skipping the at least one measurement instance to the UE 201. Then the UE 201 may determines to resume skipping the at least one measurement instance based on the third indication. The third indication indicates the UE 201 to resume skipping the at least one measurement instance based on an L1 measurement result being above a second threshold, an L3 measurement result being above a third threshold, an L1 measurement result being below a fourth threshold, an L3 measurement result being below a fifth threshold, a radio link failure (RLF) related timer stopping running, an leaving condition of an L1 event being satisfied, or an leaving condition of an L3 event being satisfied, or any combination thereof.

[0088] Prior to determining to resume skipping the at least one measurement instance, the UE 201 may skip the at least one measurement instance based on a configuration from the network device 202. For example, the network device 202 may transmit second configuration information for skipping the at least one measurement instance to the UE 201. Then the UE 201 may skip the at least one measurement instance based on the second configuration information.

[0089] In a case that the UE 201 determines to stop the prediction, in some examples, the UE 201 may further resume the prediction after a time period. In some examples, the network device 202 may transmit, to the UE 201, a time offset or a time interval value on which the time period is based. On the UE 201 side, the time period is based on the time offset or the time interval value configured by the network device 202. In some other examples, the time period is based on a time point when a prediction window slides from a first time period in which the predicion is stopped forward to a second time period, in which a start of the second time period is later than an end of the first time period.

[0090] In some examples, the network device 202 may transmit an indication (may be referred to as a second indication) of resuming the prediction. In some examples, the second indication may be comprised in the configuration information 205. The UE 201 may resume the prediction based on the second indication. In some other examples, the UE 201 resuming the prediction is specified by the protocols.

[0091] In some examples, the network device 202 may transmit, to the UE 201, a signaling for activating or resuming the prediction. Then the UE 201 may resume the prediction after receiving the signaling for activating or resuming the prediction. In some examples, the signaling for activating or resuming the prediction is transmitted by the network device 202 and received by the UE 201 via downlink control information (DCI) . Addtionally or alternatively, the signaling for activating or resuming the prediction is transmitted by the network device 202 and received by the UE 201 via a medium access control control element (MAC CE) . Addtionally or alternatively, the signaling for activating or resuming the prediction is transmitted by the network device 202 and received by the UE 201 via a radio resource control (RRC) signaling.

[0092] In a case that the UE 201 determines to continue the prediction, in such examples, an observation window and a prediction window may continue sliding forward per sample or per measurement period. The prediction window slides forward per sample may refer to the example of the sliding window below. The prediction window slides forward per measurement period may refer to the example of the non-sliding window below.

[0093] As mentioned above, the prediction of the L1 measurement, the L1 event, the L3 measurement, the L3 event, or any combination thereof may be referred to as the first prediction. In the case that the UE 201 determines to continue the prediction, a further prediction after the first prediction may be referred as to a second prediction. The first prediction and the second prediction are two instances of predictions conducted for the same object at different time points with the observation window and prediction window shift forwards. E. g., both are RLF prediction for the same cell, or L3 event for the same cell. In some examples, based on determining that a prediction result (referred to as a second prediction result) of the second prediction is different from a prediction result (referred to as a first prediction result) of the first prediction, the UE 201 may transmit, to the network device 202, a report of the second prediction result. On the network device 202 side, the network device 202 may receive the second prediction result.

[0094] In some examples, the report of the second prediction result is transmitted by the UE 201 based on some conditions. For example, based on a time difference between a second time point of transmitting the second prediction result and a first time point of transmitting the first prediction result being greater than a timer (may be referred to as prohibit timer in some examples hereinafter) configured by the network device 202, the UE 201 transmits the report of the second prediction result. On the network device 202 side, the network device 202 needs to configure the timer for the UE 201. That is, the network device 202 transmits a configuration of the timer to the UE 201. And at the network device 202, the time difference between the second time point of receiving the second prediction result and the first time point of receiving the first prediction result is greater than the timer.

[0095] As another example, based on a difference between the second prediction result and the first prediction result being greater than a first threshold or a percentage, the UE 201 transmits the report of the second prediction result. The first threshold or the percentage may be configured by the network device 202. Accordingly, at the network device 202, the received second prediction result differs from the received first prediction result by the first threshold or the percentage.

[0096] FIG. 3 illustrates an example process of measurement related prediction in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 3, a UE 301 and a gNB 302 are involved in a process 300. In some examples, the gNB 302 may be an example of the network device 202 or the network entitiy 102. The UE 301 may be an example of the UE 201.

[0097] The following types of measurement / prediction may be involved in the process 300. L3 beam / cell measurement prediction, i.e. the beam or cell level measurement prediction that is the prediction of beam or cell quality (e.g., RSRP) after applying L3 filtering. L3 event prediction including prediction of specified events A1, A2, A3, etc., as mentioned above, as well as, radio link failure (RLF) event, and handover failure event, and it may be determined by the RRC protocol layer. L1 beam / CSI measurement prediction, i.e. the beam or CSI level measurement prediction that is the prediction of beam quality or CSI after applying L1 filtering. L1 event prediction, e.g., if the L1 beam quality is above / below a RSRP threshold for a certain time.

[0098] At 312, the gNB 302 transmits configuration information of L1 / L3 beam / cell / event prediciton (may be referred to the prediciton for short hereinafter) . For the details of the L1 / L3 beam / cell / event prediciton, may refer to the description of the types of measurement / prediction above, respectively. The configuration information of L1 / L3 beam / cell / event prediciton may be as an example of the configuration information 205 above, and the descriptions of the configuration information 205 may be appliable to the configuration information of L1 / L3 beam / cell / event prediciton.

[0099] At 314, the UE 301 may perform the prediciton. At 316, the UE 301 may skip measurements if the prediciton result is available. For example, the UE 301 may stop skipping the at least one measurement instance, as described in the process 200 above. At 318, the UE 301 may report the prediciton related result. For example, the UE 301 may report, to the gNB 302, a predicted L1 event and associated L1 measurement result or L1 predicted measurement result. Alternatively, the UE 301 may report a predicted L3 event and associated L3 measurement result or L3 predicted measurement result.

[0100] At 320, the UE 301 may determine whether to stop the prediciton, and / or determine whether to stop skipping measurements. The details have been described at the step 216 in the process 200, and will not be repeated here.

[0101] FIG. 4 illustrates an example procedure diagram of sliding window based prediction in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. Filtered L1 or L3 measurement result are generated every sample period. A UE mentioned below may be an example of the UE 104 or 201 or 301. The NW mentioned below may be the network device 202, the network entity 102 or the gNB 302.

[0102] The UE is configured to perform L1 / L3 related prediction ( “prediction” for short) in the future prediction window (PW) based on the measurement result (e.g. continuous historical measurement result (s) ) and optionally previously prediction result in the observation window (OW) . The L1 / L3 related prediction above may comprise, such as, L1 beam measurement prediction, L1 event prediction, L3 beam measurement prediction, L3 cell measurement prediction, or L3 event prediction. The observation window and prediction window will forward per sample (a. k. a. sliding window) , i.e. OW and PW slide forward with sampling period (s) . One sample may be one L1 beam measurement, one L3 beam measurement instance, or one L3 cell measurement instance. The prediction window slides from a current time period forward to a future time period, and in such case, the prediction window at the future time period may be referred to the future prediction window. Upon certain event (e.g., T310 running or UE reports prediction result to the NW) , the UE may or may not continue the prediction (e.g., AI inference) according to NW configuration (e.g. the configuration information 205 or the first configuration information 205 above) , and may or may not continue skipping measurements. The UE may further send an updated prediction result (e.g. the second prediction result mentioned in the above examples) to the NW if the UE continues the prediction.

[0103] At time t1, if the UE predicts an L1 / L3 event in the prediction window (e.g., the last sample of the prediction window) , the UE will be triggered to report the predicted L1 / L3 event (e.g., via a CSI report or MAC CE or via an RRC measurement report) and relevant L1 / L3 beam / cell measurement or prediction result.

[0104] In some examples, as depicted in the FIG. 4, the L3 event can be an A3 event. The A3 event is predicted to happen would mean that the entering condition of the A3 event is predicted to be fulfilled continuously for a TimeToTrigger (TTT) period. After the UE reports the predicted L1 / L3 event and relevant L1 / L3 beam / cell measurement or prediction result, according to the NW configuration (e.g. the configuration information 205 or the first configuration information 205) , the UE may perform the at least one operation (as mentioned in the process 200 above) .

[0105] As an example, in one aspect (called aspect#1) , the at least one operation is related to measurement, e.g. stopping skipping any measurement instance if the UE was previously configured to do so. For example, in temporal domain prediction, the UE will skip measurement instances if the relevant prediction result is available. In addition, the UE may fallback to the measurement-based operation, as such the NW could rely on actual UE measurement and not miss any actually happening L1 / L3 event (e.g. A3 event) . It should be noted that the UE may further trigger a UE measurement report if the A3 event is detected according to measurement.

[0106] As another example, in one aspect (called aspect#2) , the at least one operation is related to prediction, e.g. stopping the relevant prediction effort (with reference to the Option 1 below) , or continuing the relevant prediction (with reference to the Option 2 below) .

[0107] In Option 1, since a predicted A3 event or RLF event will likely trigger a handover decided by the NW, continuing performing prediction may be a waste of UE’s effort. In such examples, e.g. in Option 1a, the UE may be configured to temporally stop the relevant prediction effort and may resume the relevant prediction effort after some time period, e.g., after a time offset / interval value configured by the NW. Alternatively, the UE may resume the relevant prediction effort after the prediction window is passed. In particular, if the UE predicts an L1 / L3 event in the prediction window which triggers reporting to the NW, when time moves, the UE will not perform any prediction during the same prediction window. Instead, UE will perform measurement during the same prediction window. The prediction window being passed means that prediction window slides from a first time period in which the predicion is stopped forward to a second time period, and a start of the second time period is later than an end of the first time period. In other words, the prediction window has slided passed the the first time period. Different from Option 1a, alternatively, in Option 1b, the UE may wait for another activating signaling (e.g., DCI, an MAC CE, or an RRC signaling) from the NW to activate and resume the prediction (i.e., AI inference) .

[0108] In Option 2, the observation window and prediction window will continue sliding forward per sample. It could be possible that a later prediction made at time t2 is difference than the prediction made earlier at time t1. The UE may decide to send another report (e.g. the report of the second prediction result in some examples) to the NW to update a previously made prediction if at least one condition are satisfied. The at least one condition, in Option 2a, e.g. may be the time difference between t2 and t1 being larger than a prohibit timer configured by the NW. The prohibit timer can be configured by the NW to avoid too frequent prediction update from the UE. The at least one condition, in Option 2b, e.g. may be the prediction result produced at t2 differing from the prediction result earlier produced at t1 than a certain threshold value or a certain percentage. For example, the UE may determine to send another report to the NW to update a previously made prediction if the UE is configured to predict the L3 cell RSRP value and the difference between prediction results produced at t1 and t2 is above a first RSRP value (an example of the first threshold above) . Alternatively, the UE may determine to send another report to the NW to update a previously made prediction if the prediction results produced at t1 and t2 are time points at which a certain L1 / L3 event will happen (or time windows during which a certain L1 / L3 event will happen) , and the difference of the time points or the time windows is above a value (referred to as first value) of a time point or time window (the first value is another example of the first threshold above) . Alternatively, the UE may determine to send another report to the NW to update a previously made prediction if the prediction results produced at t1 and t2 are likelihood (in %) that a certain L1 / L3 event will happen, and the difference of the likelihood corresponding to t1 and t2 is above a value of likelihood (e.g. a percentage) .

[0109] In some examples, if the following condition is satisfied, such as, the currently measured L1 RSRP of beam / cell is below an RSRP threshold (an example of the second threshold) , or the currently measured L3 RSRP of beam / cell is below an RSRP threshold (an example of the third threshold) , or the currently measured L1 RSRP of beam / cell is above an RSRP threshold (an example of the fourth threshold) , or the currently measured L3 RSRP of beam / cell is above an RSRP threshold (an example of the fifth threshold) , the RLF related timer (e.g., T310) is running, or the entering condition of a L1 / L3 event (e.g., A3 event) is met, the UE may also stop skipping any measurement instances if the UE was previously configured to do so (even if the relevant prediction result is available e.g., in temporal domain prediction case B) or stop the prediction as described in aspect#1 or aspect#2 above. Accordingly, the UE may start again (i.e. resume) skipping the measurement instances (if prediction result is available) if the measured L1 RSRP of beam / cell is larger than a RSRP threshold (an example of the second threshold) , or if the measured L3 RSRP of beam / cell is larger than a RSRP threshold (an example of the third threshold) , or if the currently measured L1 RSRP of beam / cell is below a RSRP threshold (an example of the fourth threshold) , or if the currently measured L3 RSRP of beam / cell is below a RSRP threshold (an example of the fifth threshold) , or if the RLF related timer (e.g., T310) stops running, or if the leaving condition of a L1 / L3 event (e.g., A3 event) is met.

[0110] FIG. 5 illustrates an example procedure diagram of non-sliding window based prediction in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. Filtered L1 or L3 measurement result are generated every measurement period. A UE mentioned below may be an example of the UE 104 or 201 or 301. The NW mentioned below may be the network device 202, the network entity 102 or the gNB 302.

[0111] Different from the example procedure diagram of sliding window based prediction as shown in FIG. 4, in the procedure diagram of non-sliding window based prediction, the observation window and prediction window will slide forward per measurement period (a.k.a. non-sliding window) , e.g. OW and PW slide forward with measurement period (s) . Accordingly, in some examples, if the UE determines to continue the relevant prediction, the observation window and prediction window will continue to sliding forward per measurement period. In addition, for non-sliding window based prediction, there will not be any update of a previously reported prediction result. From a point of view of UE behavior, the other details of the implemention of the non-sliding window based prediction are the same as the implemention of the sliding window based prediction as described in FIG. 4 above, and will not be repeated here.

[0112] FIG. 6 illustrates an example of a device 600 that supports measurement related prediction, such as enhancement of UE behavior during measurement related prediction, in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The device 600 may be an example of the UE 104 or the network entity 102 or an entity in the core network 106 as described herein. The device 600 may support wireless communication with one or more network entities 102, UEs 104, or any combination thereof. The device 600 may include components for bi-directional communications including components for transmitting and receiving communications, such as a processor 602, a memory 604, a transceiver 606, and, optionally, an I / O controller 608. These components may be in electronic communication or otherwise coupled (e.g., operatively, communicatively, functionally, electronically, electrically) via one or more interfaces (e.g., buses) .
