ORAL CARE COMPOSITIONField of the InventionThe present invention relates to oral care compositions, in particular to oral care compositions with enhanced stain removal and stain prevention.Background of the InventionAbrasives for use in oral care compositions such as dentifrices, are required to be effective in removing extrinsic stains, dental plaque and food debris which builds up on the pellicle on the surface of teeth.In general, the efficiency of physical removal of stain, plaque and food debris can be increased by using an abrasive having increased abrasivity, or by increasing the level of abrasive incorporated into the composition. Preferably the weight ratio of locust bean gum to the xanthan is from 1:5 to 5:1 , more preferably from 1:3 to 3:1.Preferably the level of locust bean gum is from 0.1 to 5 wt% of the total composition, more preferably form 0.2 to 4 wt%, most preferably from 0.3 to 3wt%.Preferably the level of xanthan, if present, is from 0.1 to 5 wt% of the total composition, more preferably from 0.2 to 4 wt%, most preferably from 0.3 to 3wt%.Composition according to the invention comprise at least 10wt% of the total composition of a polyol polyol selected from glycerol, sorbitol or mixture thereof, preferably the level of polyol is from 12 to 50 wt% of the total composition, more preferably from 15 to 40 wt%.Compositions according to the invention comprise calcium carbonate particulate abrasive materials inan amount pf at least 10 wt% of the total composition, preferably frorm between 15 and 60% by weight of the total composition, more preferably from 20 to 50 wt%.Precipitated calcium carbonate has a different crystal structure from natural calcium carbonate. It is generally more friable and more porous, thus having lower abrasivity and higher water absorption. For use in the present invention, the particles are small, e.g., having an average particle size of 1-5 microns, and e.g., no more than 0.1 percent, preferably no more than 0.05 percent by weight of particles which would not pass through a 325 mesh. The particles may for example have a D50 of 3-6 microns, for example 3.8-4.9, e.g., about 4.3; a D50 of1-4 microns, e.g., 2.2-2.6 microns, e.g., about 2.4 microns, and a D10 of 1-2 microns, e.g., 1.2-1.4, e.g., about 1.3 microns. The particles have relatively high water absorption, e.g., at least 25 g / 100 g, e.g., 30-70 g / 100 g.In some embodiments, additional calcium-containing abrasives, for example calcium phosphate abrasive, e.g., tricalcium phosphate, hydroxyapatite or dicalcium phosphate dihydrate or calcium pyrophosphate, and / or silica abrasives, sodium metaphosphate, potassium metaphosphate, aluminum silicate, calcined alumina, or other siliceous materials, or combinations thereof are used.The oral care composition may comprise a hexametaphosphate, a pyrophosphate and mixtures thereof. Preferably the hexametaphosphate is sodium hexametaphosphate. Preferably the pyrophosphate is tetra sodium pyrophosphate, di sodium pyrophosphate or mixtures thereof The total level of hexametaphosphate and a pyrophosphate is preferably from 0.5 to 10 wt% of the total composition more preferably from 1 to 7wt%.The composition, particularly if a toothpaste preferably comprises an inorganic or a natural or synthetic thickener or gelling agent in proportions of about 0.10 to about 15% by weight depending on the material chosen. These proportions of thickeners in the dentifrice compositions of the present invention form an extrudable, shape-retaining product which can be squeezed from a tube onto a toothbrush and will not fall between the bristles of the brush but rather, will substantially maintain its shape thereon. Suitable thickeners or gelling agents useful in the practice of the present invention include inorganic thickening silicas such as amorphous silicas available from Huber Corporation under the trade designation Zeodent 165, Irish moss, iota-carrageenan, gum tragacanth, and polyvinylpyrrolidone.Further suitable binders and thickeners can be present and include as sodium carboxymethylcellulose, hydroxyethyl cellulose (Natrosol®),. as well as synthetic polymers such as polyacrylates and carboxyvinyl polymers such as Carbopol®.Compositions according to the invention may comprise a polymeric deposition aid. Preferably the composition comprises acid anhydride polymers, particularly preferred are co-polymers of maleic anhydride with methyl vinylether, in which the anhydride moiety may be in a partially or fully hydrolysed or alcoholysed form. Claims

CLAIMS1. An oral care composition comprising: i) at least 10 wt% of the total composition of a calcium carbonate based abrasive, ii) at least 10 wt% of the total composition of a polyol selected from glycerol, sorbitol or mixture thereof and; iii) at least 0.1 wt% of the total composition of locust bean gum.

2. An oral care composition according to claim 1 in which the level of locust bean gum is from 0.1 to 5 wt%, preferably from 0.2 wt% to 4 wt% of the total composition.

3. An oral care composition according to any preceding claim which further comprises xanthan.

4. An oral care composition according to claim 3 in which the level of xanthan is from 0.1 to5 wt% o preferably from 0.2 wt% to 4 wt% f the total composition.

5. An oral care composition according to any of claims 2 to 4 in which the weight ratio of locust bean gum to xanthan, is from 1:5 to 5:1, preferably from 1:3 to 3:1.

6. An oral care composition according to any preceding claim that is a toothpaste.

7. An oral care composition according to any preceding claim for use in a method to remove stains from the teeth.

8. Use of a composition according to any one of claims 1 to 6 for removing stains from the teeth.

9. A method of stain removal from the teeth comprising the step of applying the composition disclosed in any one of claim 1 to 6 to the teeth.
