Description

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR TRIGGERING TRANSMISSION OF AN UE-INITIATED CSI REPORT IN A WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEMTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present disclosure relates generally to wireless communication, and more particularly, to techniques for a user equipment (UE) to initiate reporting of channel state information (CSI) based on triggering events.BACKGROUND

[0002] The Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) specifies a radio interface referred to as fifth generation (5G) new radio (NR) (5G NR) . An architecture for a 5G NR wireless communication system includes a 5G core (5GC) network, a 5G radio access network (5G-RAN) , a user equipment (5G UE) , etc. The 5G NR architecture seeks to provide increased data rates, decreased latency, and / or increased capacity compared to prior generation cellular communication systems.

[0003] Wireless communication systems, in general, provide various telecommunication services (e.g., telephony, video, data, messaging, etc. ) based on multiple-access technologies, such as orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) technologies, that support communication with multiple UEs. Improvements in mobile broadband continue the progression of such wireless communication technologies. To facilitate communication, a UE and a network entity may collaborate to identify and maintain improved or preferred beams for transmission in the uplink and downlink directions. A network entity may trigger beam measurement and transmission of a CSI report / beam report by a UE. Alternatively, a UE may initiate a CSI report / beam report based on triggering events. Complexities arise when designing triggering events for UE-initiated CSI / beam report under different deployment scenarios.

[0004] BRIEF SUMMARY

[0005] The following presents a simplified summary of one or more aspects in order to provide a basic understanding of such aspects. This summary is not an extensive overview of all contemplated aspects. This summary neither identifies key or critical elements of all aspects nor delineates the scope of any or all aspects. Its sole purpose  is to present some concepts of one or more aspects in a simplified form as a prelude to the more detailed description that is presented later.

[0006] In beam management, a UE and a network entity may collaborate to identify and maintain improved or preferred beams for transmission / reception in the uplink and downlink directions. Beam management may be based on downlink reference signals (DL-RS) such as the synchronization signal / physical broadcast channel (SS / PBCH) blocks (referred to as synchronization signal block (SSB) ) and channel state information reference signals (CSI-RSs) configured as channel measurement resources. The UE may measure the downlink reference signals and provide feedback to the network entity in a CSI report to allow rapid and responsive switching between beams. The CSI report may include information pertaining to characteristics of a current channel or candidate channels used for the communication. The network entity may perform beam related procedures (e.g., beam management, beam switching, etc. ) based on the CSI report.

[0007] The network entity usually determines and initiates the beam report and switching procedure. The network entity may configure a CSI report configuration for beam measurement and reporting, where the CSI report configuration includes a list of SSB or CSI-RS resources for beam measurements. The network entity may transmit different SSB / CSI-RS resources by different beams. The UE may perform measurements (e.g., L1-RSRP or layer 1 signal-to-interference noise ratio (LI-SINR) measurements) on the different beams. The UE may transmit a CSI report / beam report to the network entity based on the measurements in a periodic manner, a semi-persistent manner, or an aperiodic manner. Triggering a CSI report from the UE in such a manner for a serving cell by network entity signaling may be referred to as a network triggered (NWT) CSI beam report or CSI report for serving cell. The network entity may provide a beam activation / deactivation indication to the UE based on the CSI report / beam report via a transmission configuration indicator (TCI) or spatial relation information.

[0008] However, a quality of a beam between a UE and a network entity may change as a result of movement and / or rotation of the UE and / or as a result of a blockage between the UE and the network entity. The network entity may have limited information or no information as to when the quality of the beam changes. As result, the network entity may not trigger a CSI report / beam report at a suitable time. The network entity can address this issue by triggering a beam report by the UE relatively  frequently; however, this approach may increase a downlink activation / triggering signaling overhead, increase uplink overhead for beam reporting, and / or increase UE power consumption. The network entity can trigger a beam report by the UE less frequently; however, this approach may cause performance degradation as the network entity may not identity a quality change in the beam which would otherwise lead to beam switching.

[0009] One approach to strike a balance between maintaining beam quality with reducing signaling overhead and UE power consumption includes UE-initiated triggering a CSI report / beam report (as opposed to network triggered) . Triggering a beam report in such a manner may be referred to as a UE-initiated (UEI) beam report. In an example, a beam report is a multiple input, multiple output (MIMO) beam report. Triggering a CSI report in such a manner for a serving cell may be referred to as a UE-initiated (UEI) CSI report for serving cell.

[0010] Some wireless communication systems support lower-layer triggered mobility (LTM) operation. In LTM operation, a network entity may change a cell of a UE via layer 1 (L1) signaling and / or layer 2 (L2) signaling. This is in contrast to a cell change via layer 3 (L3) signaling, which is associated with NWT CSI reporting for LTM cell. A LTM operation may reduce latency, overhead, and / or an interruption time during a serving cell change. The network entity may configure and trigger transmission of a CSI report from the UE for a LTM operation, referred to as a network triggered (NWT) LTM CSI report or beam report. The benefits of UEI CSI report or beam report may be extended to LTM as well, referred to as UEI LTM CSI report or beam report. The UE may then evaluate events for triggering CSI report in LTM to reduce signaling overhead compared to NWT LTM CSI reporting.

[0011] Complexities arise when designing triggering events for transmitting UEI LTM CSI report and UEI CSI report for serving cell. Design principles and / or details of triggering events for CSI reporting may be different for UEI LTM CSI report and UEI CSI report for serving cell. Even when using the same triggering event, there may be different parameters or different ways of assessing the beam quality changes between UEI LTM CSI report and UEI CSI report for serving cell. For example, UEI CSI report for serving cell may only support a triggering event for UEI CSI report when the quality of at least one new beam, such as L1-RSRP, becomes a threshold value better than the quality of the current beam. It is desirable to design other types of triggering events to support UEI LTM CSI report as well as UEI CSI report for serving  cell. Furthermore, to prevent a UEI CSI report from being triggered by accident or too frequently, the network entity may configure the UE to transmit a UEI CSI report if a triggering event is detected for a number of times. Mechanism for controlling the counting of various triggering events for a beam and conditions or resetting the counters are design consideration for UEI CSI reporting.

[0012] Aspects of the present disclosure address the above-noted and other deficiencies by implementing procedures and providing mechanism to support UEI LTM CSI report and UEI CSI report for serving cell. Some aspects described herein pertain to configuring different triggering events for UEI LTM CSI report and UEI CSI report for serving cell. Some aspects pertain to configuring UEI CSI report including DL-RS measurement configuration for assessing qualities of one or more new / candidate beams or one or more current beams associated with the various triggering events to support UEI LTM CSI report and UEI CSI report for serving cell. Some aspects pertain to configuring triggering event counters to count the number of triggering event instances (TEI) for the various triggering events, TEI time windows during which TEI are counted, and maximum values of the TEI to trigger UEI CSI reports to support UEI LTM CSI report and UEI CSI report for serving cell. Some aspects pertain to conditions for resetting the triggering event counters to support UEI LTM CSI report and UEI CSI report for serving cell. The aspects described herein may allow for a streamlined mechanism for a UE to evaluate a cell / beam quantity and to trigger CSI reporting to support UEI LTM CSI report and UEI CSI report for serving cell, and hence may facilitate improved communications between a UE and a network entity.

[0013] According to some aspects, a UE receives, from a network entity, control signaling indicating parameters for at least one of a LTM configuration, UEI CSI report configuration, a triggering event for a UEI CSI report, or counting of triggering event instances (TEI) associated with the triggering event. The UE receives, from the network entity, a reference signal (RS) associated with at least one of an LTM cell or a serving cell. The UE transmits, to the network entity based on the RS and a count of the TEI satisfying a maximum TEI, the UEI CSI report for the at least one of the LTM cell or the serving cell.

[0014] According to some aspects, the network entity transmits, to a user equipment (UE) , control signaling indicating parameters for at least one of a LTM configuration, UEI CSI report configuration, a triggering event for a UEI CSI report, or counting of  TEI associated with the triggering event. The network entity transmits, to the UE, a RS associated with at least one of an LTM cell or a serving cell. The network entity receives, from the UE in response to the RS and a count of the TEI satisfying a maximum TEI, the UEI CSI report for the at least one of the LTM cell or the serving cell.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0023] FIG. 1 illustrates a diagram 100 of a wireless communications system associated with a plurality of cells 190 according to one embodiment. The wireless  communications system includes user equipment (UEs) 102 and base stations / network entities 104. Some base stations may include an aggregated base station architecture and other base stations may include a disaggregated base station architecture. The aggregated base station architecture utilizes a radio protocol stack that is physically or logically integrated within a single radio access network (RAN) node. A disaggregated base station architecture utilizes a protocol stack that is physically or logically distributed among two or more units (e.g., radio unit (RU) 106, distributed unit (DU) 108, central unit (CU) 110) . For example, a CU 110 is implemented within a RAN node, and one or more DUs 108 may be co-located with the CU 110, or alternatively, may be geographically or virtually distributed throughout one or multiple other RAN nodes. The DUs 108 may be implemented to communicate with one or more RUs 106. Any of the RU 106, the DU 108 and the CU 110 can be implemented as virtual units, such as a virtual radio unit (VRU) , a virtual distributed unit (VDU) , or a virtual central unit (VCU) . The base station / network entity 104 (e.g., an aggregated base station or disaggregated units of the base station, such as the RU 106 or the DU 108) , may be referred to as a transmission reception point (TRP) .

[0024] Operations of the base station 104 and / or network designs may be based on aggregation characteristics of base station functionality. For example, disaggregated base station architectures are utilized in an integrated access backhaul (IAB) network, an open-radio access network (O-RAN) network, or a virtualized radio access network (vRAN) , which may also be referred to a cloud radio access network (C-RAN) . Disaggregation may include distributing functionality across the two or more units at various physical locations, as well as distributing functionality for at least one unit virtually, which can enable flexibility in network designs. The various units of the disaggregated base station architecture, or the disaggregated RAN architecture, can be configured for wired or wireless communication with at least one other unit. For example, the base stations 104d, 104e and / or the RUs 106a, 106b, 106c, 106d may communicate with the UEs 102a, 102b, 102c, 102d, and / or 102s via one or more radio frequency (RF) access links based on a Uu interface. In examples, multiple RUs 106 and / or base stations 104 may simultaneously serve the UEs 102, such as by intra-cell and / or inter-cell access links between the UEs 102 and the RUs 106 / base stations 104.

[0025] The RU 106, the DU 108, and the CU 110 may include (or may be coupled to) one or more interfaces configured to transmit or receive information / signals via a wired or wireless transmission medium. For example, a wired interface can be configured to transmit or receive the information / signals over a wired transmission medium, such as via the fronthaul link 160 between the RU 106d and the baseband unit (BBU) 112 of the base station 104d associated with the cell 190d. The BBU 112 includes a DU 108 and a CU 110, which may also have a wired interface (e.g., midhaul link) configured between the DU 108 and the CU 110 to transmit or receive the information / signals between the DU 108 and the CU 110. In further examples, a wireless interface, which may include a receiver, a transmitter, or a transceiver, such as an RF transceiver, configured to transmit and / or receive the information / signals via the wireless transmission medium, such as for information communicated between the RU 106a of the cell 190a and the base station 104e of the cell 190e via cross-cell communication beams 136-138 of the RU 106a and the base station 104e.

[0026] The RUs 106 may be configured to implement lower layer functionality. For example, the RU 106 is controlled by the DU 108 and may correspond to a logical node that hosts RF processing functions, or lower layer PHY functionality, such as execution of fast Fourier transform (FFT) , inverse FFT (iFFT) , digital beamforming, physical random access channel (PRACH) extraction and filtering, etc. The functionality of the RU 106 may be based on the functional split, such as a functional split of lower layers.

[0027] The RUs 106 may transmit or receive over-the-air (OTA) communication with one or more UEs 102. For example, the RU 106b of the cell 190b communicates with the UE 102b of the cell 190b via a first set of communication beams 132 of the RU 106b and a second set of communication beams 134b of the UE 102b, which may correspond to inter-cell communication beams or, in some examples, cross-cell communication beams. For instance, the UE 102b of the cell 190b may communicate with the RU 106a of the cell 190a via a third set of communication beams 134a of the UE 102b and a fourth set of communication beams 136 of the RU 106a. DUs 108 can control both real-time and non-real-time features of control plane and user plane communications of the RUs 106.

[0028] Any combination of the RU 106, the DU 108, and the CU 110, or reference thereto individually, may correspond to a base station 104. Thus, the base station 104 may include at least one of the RU 106, the DU 108, or the CU 110. The base stations 104  provide the UEs 102 with access to a core network. The base stations 104 may relay communications between the UEs 102 and the core network (not shown) . The base stations 104 may be associated with macrocells for higher-power cellular base stations and / or small cells for lower-power cellular base stations. For example, the cell 190e may correspond to a macrocell, whereas the cells 190a-190d may correspond to small cells. Small cells include femtocells, picocells, microcells, etc. A network that includes at least one macrocell and at least one small cell may be referred to as a “heterogeneous network. ”

[0029] Transmissions from a UE 102 to a base station 104 / RU 106 are referred to as uplink (UL) transmissions, whereas transmissions from the base station 104 / RU 106 to the UE 102 are referred to as downlink (DL) transmissions. Uplink transmissions may also be referred to as reverse link transmissions and downlink transmissions may also be referred to as forward link transmissions. For example, the RU 106d utilizes antennas of the base station 104d of cell 190d to transmit a downlink / forward link communication to the UE 102d or receive an uplink / reverse link communication from the UE 102d based on the Uu interface associated with the access link between the UE 102d and the base station 104d / RU 106d.

[0030] Communication links between the UEs 102 and the base stations 104 / RUs 106 may be based on multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) antenna technology, including spatial multiplexing, beamforming, and / or transmit diversity. The communication links may be associated with one or more carriers. The UEs 102 and the base stations 104 / RUs 106 may utilize a spectrum bandwidth of Y MHz (e.g., 5, 10, 15, 20, 100, 400, 800, 1600, 2000, etc. MHz) per carrier allocated in a carrier aggregation of up to a total of Yx MHz, where x component carriers (CCs) are used for communication in each of the uplink and downlink directions. The carriers may or may not be adjacent to each other along a frequency spectrum. In examples, uplink and downlink carriers may be allocated in an asymmetric manner, with more or fewer carriers allocated to either the uplink or the downlink. A primary component carrier and one or more secondary component carriers may be included in the component carriers. The primary component carrier may be associated with a primary cell (PCell) and a secondary component carrier may be associated with a secondary cell (SCell) .

[0031] Some UEs 102, such as the UEs 102a and 102s, may perform device-to-device (D2D) communications over sidelink. For example, a sidelink communication / D2D link utilizes a spectrum for a wireless wide area network (WWAN) associated with  uplink and downlink communications. Such sidelink / D2D communication may be performed through various wireless communications systems, such as wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) systems, Bluetooth systems, Long Term Evolution (LTE) systems, New Radio (NR) systems, etc.

[0032] The UEs 102 and the base stations 104 / RUs 106 may each include a plurality of antennas. The plurality of antennas may correspond to antenna elements, antenna panels, and / or antenna arrays that may facilitate beamforming operations. For example, the RU 106b transmits a downlink beamformed signal based on a first set of communication beams 132 to the UE 102b in one or more transmit directions of the RU 106b. The UE 102b may receive the downlink beamformed signal based on a second set of communication beams 134b from the RU 106b in one or more receive directions of the UE 102b. In a further example, the UE 102b may also transmit an uplink beamformed signal (e.g., sounding reference signal (SRS) ) to the RU 106b based on the second set of communication beams 134b in one or more transmit directions of the UE 102b. The RU 106b may receive the uplink beamformed signal from the UE 102b in one or more receive directions of the RU 106b. The UE 102b may perform beam training to determine the best receive and transmit directions for the beamformed signals. The transmit and receive directions for the UEs 102 and the base stations 104 / RUs 106 may or may not be the same.

[0033] In further examples, beamformed signals may be communicated between a first base station / RU 106a and a second base station 104e. For instance, the base station 104e of the cell 190e may transmit a beamformed signal to the RU 106a based on the communication beams 138 in one or more transmit directions of the base station 104e. The RU 106a may receive the beamformed signal from the base station 104e of the cell 190e based on the RU communication beams 136 in one or more receive directions of the RU 106a. In further examples, the base station 104e transmits a downlink beamformed signal to the UE 102e based on the communication beams 138 in one or more transmit directions of the base station 104e. The UE 102e receives the downlink beamformed signal from the base station 104e based on UE communication beams 130 in one or more receive directions of the UE 102e. The UE 102e may also transmit an uplink beamformed signal to the base station 104e based on the UE communication beams 130 in one or more transmit directions of the UE 102e, such that the base station 104e may receive the uplink beamformed signal from the UE 102e in one or more receive directions of the base station 104e.

[0034] The base station 104 may include and / or be referred to as a network entity. That is, “network entity” may refer to the base station 104 or at least one unit of the base station 104, such as the RU 106, the DU 108, and / or the CU 110. The base station 104 may also include and / or be referred to as a next generation evolved Node B (ng-eNB) , a next generation NB (gNB) , an evolved NB (eNB) , an access point, a base transceiver station, a radio base station, a radio transceiver, a transceiver function, a basic service set (BSS) , an extended service set (ESS) , a TRP, a network node, network equipment, or other related terminology. The base station 104 or an entity at the base station 104 can be implemented as an IAB node, a relay node, a sidelink node, an aggregated (monolithic) base station, or a disaggregated base station including one or more RUs 106, DUs 108, and / or CUs 110. A set of aggregated or disaggregated base stations may be referred to as a next generation-radio access network (NG-RAN) . In some examples, the UE 102a operates in dual connectivity (DC) with the base station 104e and the base station / RU 106a. In such cases, the base station 104e can be a master node and the base station / RU 160a can be a secondary node.

[0035] Still referring to FIG. 1, in certain aspects, any of the UEs 102 may include a UE-initiated beam measurement and reporting component 140 configured to generate UE-initiated beam reporting. The UE-initiated beam measurement and reporting component 140 is configured to receive from the base station / network entity 104 control signaling indicating parameters for at least one of a lower layer triggered mobility (LTM) configuration, UE-initiated (UEI) channel sate information (CSI) report configuration, a triggering event for a UEI CSI report, or counting of triggering event instances (TEI) associated with the triggering event. The UE-initiated beam measurement and reporting component 140 is further configured to receive from the base station / network entity 104 a reference signal (RS) associated with at least one of an LTM cell or a serving cell. The UE-initiated beam measurement and reporting component 140 is further configured to transmit to the base station / network entity 104 based on the RS and a count of the detected TEI satisfying a maximum TEI, the UEI CSI report for the at least one of the LTM cell or the serving cell.

[0036] In certain aspects, any of the base stations 104 or a network entity of the base stations 104 may include a UE-initiated beam reporting configuration component 150 configured to support UE-initiated beam reporting. The UE-initiated beam reporting configuration component 150 is configured to transmit to any of the UEs 102 control  signaling indicating parameters for at least one of a LTM configuration, UEI CSI report configuration, a triggering event for a UEI CSI report, or counting of TEI associated with the triggering event. The UE-initiated beam reporting configuration component 150 is further configured to transmit to any of the UEs 102 a RS associated with at least one of an LTM cell or a serving cell. The UE-initiated beam reporting configuration component 150 is further configured to receive from any of the UEs 102 in response to the RS and a count of the TEI satisfying a maximum TEI, the UEI CSI report for the at least one of the LTM cell or the serving cell.

[0037] Accordingly, FIG. 1 describes a wireless communication system that may be implemented in connection with aspects of one or more other figures described herein. Further, although the following description may be focused on 5G NR, the concepts described herein may be applicable to other similar areas, such as 5G-Advanced and future versions, LTE, LTE-advanced (LTE-A) , and other wireless technologies, such as 6G.

[0038] In 5G NR, multiple input multiple output (MIMO) configurations provide benefits such as diversity gain, beamforming array gain, spatial multiplexing, etc., by using multiple antenna elements at the transmitter and multiple antenna elements at the receiver. Conventionally in a MIMO configuration, the network entity determines and triggers the beam report and switching procedure. The network entity may configure a CSI report configuration, e.g., CSI-ReportConfig, for beam measurements and reporting. For example, the network entity may configure a list of synchronization signal block (SSB) or Channel State Information Reference Signal (CSI-RS) resources for beam measurements. The network entity may transmit different SSB / CSI-RS resources by different beams. The network entity may configure the UE to report the beam quality, e.g., layer 1 reference signal received power (L1-RSRP) or layer 1 signal to interference plus noise ratio (L1-SINR) for each reported beam. The network entity may configure the UE to perform the beam reporting in periodic, semi-persistent or aperiodic manner. Then based on the received beam report (s) , the network entity may provide the beam activation / indication by indicating a transmission configuration indicator (TCI) or spatial relation information. Transmitting a CSI report from the UE in such a manner for a serving cell by network entity signaling may be referred to as a network triggered (NWT) beam report or CSI report for serving cell. For example, the UE may transmit periodic, semi-persistent or aperiodic CSI or beam report for serving cell.

[0039] As a result of UE’s movement, rotation, or blockage, the beam quality for a beam may change. Because the network entity has no or limited information on when the beam quality would change, the network entity may not be able to trigger the beam reports at the proper time. One way to mitigate the network entity’s lack of visibility into changing beam qualities and the resulting inability to switch the beams at the right time is for the UE to trigger beam reporting. Triggering a CSI report by the UE for a serving cell may be referred to as a UE-initiated (UEI) CSI beam or CSI report for serving cell.

[0040] 5G NR also supports LTM operation. In LTM operation, a network entity may change a cell of a UE via L1 signaling and / or L2 signaling. This is in contrast to a cell change via L3 signaling, which is associated with NWT CSI reporting for LTM cell. A LTM operation may reduce latency, overhead, and / or an interruption time during a serving cell change. The network entity may configure and trigger transmission of a CSI report from the UE for a LTM operation, referred to as a network entity triggered (NWT) LTM CSI or beam report. For example, the network entity may configure the UE to transmit LTM periodic, semi-persistent or aperiodic CSI or beam report. The benefits of UEI CSI or beam report may be extended to LTM as well, referred to as UEI LTM CSI or beam report. The UE may then evaluate events for triggering CSI report in LTM to reduce signaling overhead compared to NWT LTM CSI reporting.

[0041] The triggering event (s) for UEI LTM CSI / beam report and those for UEI CSI / beam report for serving cell may be different. Even when using the same triggering event, there may be different parameters or different ways of assessing beam quality changes between UEI LTM CSI report and UEI CSI report for serving cell. In addition, to prevent a UEI CSI report from being triggered by accident or too frequently, the network entity may configure the UE to transmit a UEI CSI report after a triggering event is detected for a number of times. The design consideration to support UEI CSI reporting may therefore include mechanism for controlling the counting of various triggering events for a beam and conditions or resetting the counters. This counting and resetting mechanism may apply for UEI LTM CSI report and UEI CSI report for serving cell.

[0042] Aspects of the present disclosure include configuring different triggering events for UEI LTM CSI report and UEI CSI report for serving cell. The CSI reports may configure DL-RS measurements for assessing qualities of one or more new / candidate  beams or current beams associated with the various triggering events to support UEI LTM CSI report and UEI CSI report for serving cell. Other aspects may include configuring triggering event counters to count the number of triggering event instances (TEI) for the various triggering events, TEI time windows during which TEI are counted, maximum values of the TEI to trigger UEI CSI reports, conditions for resetting the triggering event counters, to support UEI LTM CSI report and UEI CSI report for serving cell. In other aspects, the UE 102 may report to the network entity a UE capability for supporting LTM, UEI CSI reporting, triggering events for the UEI report, or counting of TEI. The aspects described herein may allow for a streamlined mechanism for a UE to evaluate a cell / beam quantity and to trigger CSI reporting to support UEI LTM CSI report and UEI CSI report for serving cell, thereby improving the performance and efficiency of beam management.

[0043] FIG. 2 is a signaling diagram 200 illustrating communications between a UE 102 and a network entity 104 for a UEI LTM CSI report by counting TEI according to an embodiment. The network entity 104 may correspond to a base station or a unit of a base station, such as the RU 106, the DU 108, the CU 110, etc.

[0044] The UE 102 may optionally transmit 202, to the network entity 104, (or the network entity 104 may receive 202 from the UE 102) , UE’s capability on supported, recommended, or preferred configuration for UEI beam reporting. In one embodiment, UE 102 may report at least one of the following capabilities: whether the UE 102 supports LTM, whether the UE 102 supports UEI LTM CSI or beam reporting; supported triggering events for the UEI LTM CSI or beam report; or whether the UE 102 supports counting the number of TEI for the triggering events. In one embodiment, the network entity 104 may receive the capability information of the UE 102 from a core network (e.g., Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF) ) . In one embodiment, the network entity 104 may receive the capability information from another base station (e.g., gNB or eNB) .

[0045] Based on the UE capability, the network entity 104 may transmit 204, to the UE 102 (or the UE 102 may receive 204 from the network entity 104) , control signaling indicating parameters to enable UEI LTM CSI or beam reporting. In one embodiment, the parameters may include an LTM configuration (e.g., LTM-Config) , UEI LTM CSI report configuration, one or more triggering events for a UEI LTM CSI report, and / or parameters for counting of TEI associated with the triggering events. In one embodiment, the parameters for the counting of TEI may include TEI  counter, TEI time window, and / or TEI maximum value. The network entity 104 may transmit 204 the control signaling to the UE 102 via radio resource control (RRC) configuration.

[0046] In one embodiment, the LTM configuration may include one or more LTM candidate cell configuration (s) . The LTM configuration may be LTM-Config. In one embodiment, the LTM candidate cell configuration (s) may be LTM-Candidate. In some cases, the UE may perform LTM related procedure (s) based on LTM configuration including the one or more LTM candidate cell configuration (s) .

[0047] The UE may perform UEI LTM CSI reporting based on the UEI LTM CSI report configuration. In one embodiment, the UEI LTM CSI report configuration may indicate report quantity of an UEI LTM CSI report. In one embodiment, if the network entity configures / indicates the UE to perform UEI LTM CSI reporting, the UE may transmit an UEI LTM CSI report on pre-configured / pre-indicated UL resource or dynamically allocated UL resource, or request UL resource for transmitting an UEI LTM CSI report, when the UE detects a triggering event for the UEI LTM CSI report. In one embodiment, the UEI LTM CSI report may be a CSI report for LTM candidate cell (s) . In one embodiment, the UEI LTM CSI report may be a beam report or a CSI report for L1-RSRP / L1-SINR. In one embodiment, the UEI LTM CSI report may be a CSI report for channel quality acquisition.

[0048] The UE may transmit a NWT LTM CSI report based on configuration / indication from the NW entity. In one embodiment, the UE may transmit the NWT LTM CSI report on each pre-configured / pre-indicated UL resource. In one embodiment, the UE may transmit the NWT LTM CSI report on a dynamically allocated UL resource, if receiving a triggering DCI. In one embodiment, the NWT LTM CSI report may be a CSI report for LTM candidate cell (s) . In one embodiment, the NWT LTM CSI report may be a beam report or a CSI report for L1-RSRP / L1-SINR. In one embodiment, the NWT LTM CSI report may be a CSI report for channel quality acquisition. In one embodiment, the NWT LTM CSI report may be a periodic, semi-persistent or aperiodic CSI report.

[0049] In one embodiment, if an UEI LTM CSI is for a beam report, the UEI LTM CSI report may include SSB index, CRI, (Capability) Index, L1-RSRP and / or L1-SINR. In one embodiment, if an UEI LTM CSI report is for a CSI report for channel quality acquisition, the UEI LTM CSI report may include CRI, rank indicator (RI) , precoding matrix indicator (PMI) , channel quality indicator (CQI) , layer indicator (LI) , and / or  time domain channel property (TDCP) . In some embodiments, an UEI LTM CSI report may be referred to as an UEI LTM beam report, or vice versa.

[0050] In one embodiment, UEI LTM CSI report configuration may be the same as that of a NWT LTM CSI report (e.g., LTM-CSI-ReportConfig) . In one embodiment, UEI LTM CSI report configuration is LTM-CSI-ReportConfig that includes a RRC parameter indicating the CSI report configuration is for UEI LTM CSI reporting. In one embodiment, UEI LTM CSI report configuration may be LTM-CSI-ReportConfig without including a RRC parameter indicating time domain behavior (e.g., ltm-ReportConfigType) .

[0051] In one embodiment, the network entity may configure, to the UE, configuration (s) associated with UEI LTM CSI report for an LTM candidate cell, or for multiple LTM candidate cell (s) , or for a cell group or for / under a LTM configuration (e.g., LTM-Config) . In some implementations, the network entity may configure, to the UE, configuration (s) associated with UEI CSI report for one or more serving cell (s) .

[0052] In one embodiment, the configuration (s) associated with UEI LTM CSI report may include or refer to at least one of the followings: measurement RS configuration (s) for current beam (s) , measurement RS configuration (s) for new or candidate beam (s) , configuration indicating which mode of UEI LTM CSI report is performed (first mode or second mode as will be discussed) , or configuration (s) indicating whether the UEI LTM CSI report is transmitted via MAC CE or UCI or both.

[0053] The measurement RS configuration (s) for current beam (s) may indicate that the number of current beam (s) in the current serving cell is one or more than one. If the measurement RS configuration (s) for current beam (s) is configured for LTM, the measurement RS configuration (s) for current beam (s) may indicate that the number of current beam (s) in the current serving cell is one or more than one. In one embodiment, the current beam (s) may be referred to the indicated TCI state (e.g., joint / DL / UL TCI state) , a quasi co-location (QCL) assumption or a joint / DL / UL TCI state applied for a channel or RS not following / applying the indicated TCI state, the activated TCI state (s) , or the activated TCI state with best measurement metric, where measurement metric may be L1-RSRP / L1-SINR. In one embodiment, the measurement RS configuration (s) for the current beam may be implicitly derived from a QCL RS of indicated TCI state or the SSB which is QCLed with the QCL RS in the indicated TCI state, or explicitly configured by RRC or MAC-CE.

[0054] The measurement configuration (s) for new / candidate beam (s) may indicate that the number of new / candidate beam (s) in a LTM candidate cell is one or more than one. If the measurement RS configuration (s) for new / candidate beam (s) is configured for LTM, the measurement RS configuration (s) for new / candidate beam (s) may indicate that the number of current beam (s) in the current serving cell is one or more than one. In one embodiment, the new / candidate beam (s) or the measurement RS configuration (s) for the new / candidate beam (s) may be explicitly configured by RRC (e.g., reusing legacy configuration of RS measurement or in TCI-State) or MAC-CE, or implicitly derived from QCL RS (s) of indicated TCI state (s) , or implicitly derived from QCL RS (s) of configured / activated TCI state (s) . In one embodiment, the measurement configuration (s) for new / candidate beams may configure measurement gap(s) for the UE to perform the measurement for the RS (s) for the new / candidate beam, and the UE may refrain from receiving other DL signal from current serving cell during the measurement gap.

[0055] In one embodiment, for UEI LTM CSI report, the UE may assess / evaluate (quality of) current serving cell, based on measurement RS configuration (s) for the current beam. In some implementations, for UEI LTM CSI report, the UE may assess / evaluate (quality of) LTM candidate cell (s) , based on measurement RS configuration (s) for the new / candidate beam.

[0056] In one embodiment, if the network entity configures / indicates, to the UE, to operate a first mode of UEI LTM CSI report, the UE and / or the network entity may perform one or more of the followings:

[0057] - The UE may transmit a request signal on a PUCCH to request an UL resource for transmitting an UEI LTM CSI report;

[0058] - The network entity may transmit a first response (e.g., a first DCI) to the UE, in response to receiving the request signal;

[0059] - The UE may detect or receive the first DCI, from the network entity, to indicate an UL resource for transmitting the UEI LTM CSI report;

[0060] - The UE may transmit the UEI LTM CSI report on an UL resource (e.g., the UL resource indicated by the first DCI, if received) . In such case, the UL resource may be a dynamic grant PUSCH (DG-PUSCH) , a configured grant PUSCH (CG-PUSCH) or a PUCCH.

[0061] In one embodiment, if there is available UL resource, the UE may skip transmitting the request signal to the network entity, and / or the UE may just transmit the UEI LTM CSI report on the available UL resource. In one embodiment, the UE may determine whether there is available UL resource by itself (e.g., by considering waiting time till next transmission occasion of an UL resource) .

[0062] In one embodiment, if the network entity configures / indicates, to the UE, to operate a second mode of UEI LTM CSI report, the UE and / or the network entity may perform one or more of the followings:

[0063] - The network entity may pre-configure one or more UL resources (s) , to the UE, for transmitting an UEI LTM CSI report;

[0064] - The UE may transmit a notification signal on a PUCCH to notify a preconfigured UL resource;

[0065] - The network entity may transmit a second response (e.g., a second DCI or other DL signal) to the UE, in response to receiving the notification signal;

[0066] - The UE may detect or receive the second response from the network entity;

[0067] - The UE may transmit the UEI LTM CSI report on the preconfigured UL resource indicated by the notification signal . In such case, the UL resource may be or include a DG-PUSCH, a CG-PUSCH or a PUCCH.

[0068] In one embodiment, the second response transmission / reception may be skipped.

[0069] In one embodiment, the network entity may configure / indicate the UE to perform an UEI LTM CSI report on primary cell (PCell) , primary secondary cell (PSCell) , PUCCH serving cell and / or secondary cell (SCell) . The network entity may configure / indicate the UE to perform the UEI LTM CSI report on the active downlink or uplink bandwidth part. In one embodiment, the network entity may configure / indicate, to the UE, an UEI LTM CSI report is transmitted via a MAC CE. In one embodiment, the network entity may configure / indicate, to the UE, an UEI LTM CSI report is transmitted via a UCI (e.g., a UCI on PUCCH or PUSCH) . In one embodiment, if the network entity configures / indicates, to the UE, an UEI CSI report for serving cell, the UEI CSI report for serving cell is transmitted (only) via a UCI (e.g., a UCI on PUCCH or PUSCH) .

[0070] As mentioned, the network entity may configure / indicate, to the UE, one or more triggering events for a UEI LTM CSI report. In one embodiment, the network entity  may configure / indicate, to the UE, event ID (s) for the one or more triggering event (s) , which can trigger the UE to transmit an UEI LTM CSI report. In one embodiment, the UE may transmit the UEI LTM CSI report in response to detecting one triggering event. In one embodiment, the UE may transmit the UEI LTM CSI report in response to detecting at least one triggering event occurring for one or more times.

[0071] The UE may transmit an UEI LTM CSI report or may request / notify / indicate an UL resource for transmitting an UEI LTM CSI report, in response to detecting at least one of the following LTM event (s) for one or more times:

[0072] - LTM Event 1: Quality of a current beam in current serving cell is better than a certain threshold.

[0073] - LTM Event 2: Quality of a current beam in current serving cell is worse than a certain threshold.

[0074] - LTM Event 3: Quality of at least one new beam in a LTM candidate cell becomes a threshold value better than a current beam in current serving cell

[0075] - LTM Event 4: Quality of a new beam in a LTM candidate cell is better than a certain threshold.

[0076] - LTM Event 5: Quality of a current beam in current serving cell is worse than a threshold 1, and quality of at least one new beam in a LTM candidate cell is better than a threshold 2.

[0077] - LTM Event 6: Absolute value of the difference between the quality of a current beam in current serving cell and the quality of at least one new beam in a LTM candidate cell is lower than a threshold.

[0078] - LTM Event 7: When a current beam in current serving cell is not in the best K (K>1) beams (out of configured beams for measurement and reporting) .

[0079] - LTM Event 8a: Quality of at least one new beam in a LTM candidate cell becomes a threshold value better than the RS derived from the activated TCI state in current serving cell with the worst quality.

[0080] - LTM Event 8b: Quality of at least one new beam in a LTM candidate cell becomes a threshold value better than the RS derived from the activated TCI state in current serving cell with the best quality.

[0081] - LTM Event 9: Quality of M (M>1) new beams in a LTM candidate cell or across LTM candidate cell (s) becomes a threshold value better than a current beam in current serving cell.

[0082] - LTM Event 10: Quality of at least one new beam in a LTM candidate cell becomes a threshold value better than the configured reference RS (can be SSB or CSI-RS) .

[0083] In one embodiment, the quality metric in above LTM event (s) may at least be L1-RSRP. In one embodiment, the quality metric in above LTM event (s) may be L1-SINR. In one embodiment, the quality metric in above LTM event (s) may be CQI. In one embodiment, the quality metric in above LTM event (s) may be a combination of some or all of L1-RSRP, L1-SINR and / or CQI. For example, the UE may determine LTM event 3 is detected if L1-RSRP of at least one new beam in a LTM candidate cell becomes a first threshold value better than a current beam in current serving cell, and L1-SINR of at least one new beam in a LTM candidate cell becomes a second threshold value better than a current beam in current serving cell.

[0084] In one embodiment, the UE may calculate the quality metric for a cell based on the transmission power of SSB for the cell. Thus, if the UE is configured to measure the quality based on CSI-RS with a first power offset (power offset between CSI-RS and SSB) configured, the UE may calculate the quality metric according to the first power offset and the measured quality. In one embodiment, the UE may calculate the L1-RSRP / L1-SINR as the measured L1-RSRP / L1-SINR minus the first power offset. In one embodiment, the UE may calculate the L1-RSRP / L1-SINR as the measured L1-RSRP / L1-SINR plus the first power offset.

[0085] In one embodiment, for UEI LTM CSI reporting, the network entity may configure the same power offset (power offset between CSI-RS and SSB) for the CSI-RS resources in a CSI-RS resource set or across CSI-RS resource sets configured for new beam (s) from a LTM candidate cell and / or current beam (s) in current serving cell.

[0086] In one embodiment, for UEI LTM CSI reporting, the network entity may configure the same power offset (power offset between CSI-RS and SSB) for the CSI-RS resources in a CSI-RS resource set or across CSI-RS resource sets configured for new beam (s) across LTM candidate cell (s) and / or current beam (s) in current serving cell.

[0087] In one embodiment, for UEI LTM CSI reporting, the UE may transmit 202, to the network entity, the UE capability indicating whether it supports mixed types of RS, e.g., SSBs / CSI-RSs, for new beam (s) in one LTM candidate cell and / or current beam (s) in current serving cell.

[0088] In one embodiment, for UEI LTM CSI reporting, the UE may transmit 202, to the network entity, the UE capability indicating whether it supports mixed types of RS, e.g., SSBs / CSI-RSs, for new beam (s) across LTM candidate cell (s) and / or current beam (s) in current serving cell.

[0089] In one embodiment, the UE may detect the above LTM event (s) based on cell quality (instead of beam quality) . For example, quality of the current beam in serving cell may be replaced with quality of current serving cell, and / or quality of at least one new beam in a LTM candidate cell may be replaced with quality of a LTM candidate cell. In one embodiment, the UE may derive or determine quality of current serving cell based on quality of one or more of the current beam (s) in serving cell. In one embodiment, the UE may derive or determine quality of a LTM candidate cell based on quality of one or more new beam (s) in the LTM candidate cell. In one embodiment, for one or multiple of the event (s) above, the quality of the current beam in serving cell may be replaced with the quality of any beam or the best beam among a set of beams, e.g., a set of DL-RS (s) configured by the network entity or pre-defined (e.g., all the transmitted SSB (s) ) , in serving cell. In one embodiment, for one or multiple of the event (s) above, the quality of at least one new beam may be replaced with the quality of X new beams, where the value of X may be pre-defined or configured by the network entity.

[0090] In one embodiment, the network entity and the UE may determine the current beam (s) based on the DL-RS (s) associated with the indicated TCI state (e.g., TCI state indicated for at least PDCCH and PDSCH) , activated TCI state (s) (e.g., TCI states activated by MAC CE) , or a set of configured TCI states (e.g., TCI states configured by RRC signaling) . In one embodiment, the network entity may configure a set of DL-RS (s) , e.g., SSBs / CSI-RSs, as the current beams (s) by RRC signaling or MAC CE or DCI.

[0091] In one embodiment, the network entity may configure a set of DL-RS (s) , e.g., SSBs / CSI-RSs, as the new beam (s) for a LTM candidate cell. The network entity may configure multiple sets of DL-RSs for multiple LTM candidate cells. The network entity may provide the configuration by RRC signaling or MAC CE. In one  embodiment, the network entity may configure the new beam (s) for a LTM candidate cell based on the DL-RS (s) associated with the TCI state for the LTM candidate cell. In one embodiment, the network entity and UE may determine the new beam (s) for a LTM candidate cell based on the transmitted SSBs from or associated with the LTM candidate cell, where the transmitted SSBs from or associated with the LTM candidate cell are configured by the network entity. In one embodiment, the network entity may dynamically activate or deactivate the LTM candidate cell for new beam configuration by MAC CE or DCI, e.g., the network entity may dynamically activate or deactivate one or multiple set of DL-RS (s) for new beam (s) .

[0092] In one embodiment, different threshold values may be applied for one LTM event, based on whether current beam or new / candidate beam is associated with or QCLed to SSB or CSI-RS. In one embodiment, threshold value for one or each LTM event may be configured per LTM candidate cell. In one embodiment, threshold value for one or each LTM event may be configured in a LTM configuration (e.g., LTM-Config) or applicable for all LTM candidate cell (s) .

[0093] In one embodiment, the network entity may ensure that the RS type (e.g., SSBs or CSI-RSs) associated with current beam and that associated with new / candidate beam in a LTM candidate cell are the same at least for one of LTM Event 3, LTM Event 5, LTM Event 6, LTM Event 8a, LTM Event 8b, and LTM Event 9. In one embodiment, the RS type associated with current beam and that associated with new / candidate beam in a LTM candidate cell may be different. For example, the RS type associated with current beam and that associated with new / candidate beam in a LTM candidate cell may be different for LTM Event 3, LTM Event 5, LTM Event 6, LTM Event 8a, LTM Event 8b, and / or LTM Event 9. In one embodiment, depending on whether the RS type associated with the current beam or new / candidate beam is SSB or CSI-RS, different LTM event may apply.

[0094] As mentioned, the network entity may configure / indicate, to the UE, parameters for counting of triggering event instances (TEI) associated with the triggering events. In one embodiment, the network entity may configure / indicate to the UE to count one or more TEI from an LTM event or a beam event. In one embodiment, the UE may count one TEI associated with a triggering event if the UE detects the triggering event occurs once. The parameters for counting of TEI associated with a triggering event may include one or more of a TEI counter, a TEI time window and / or corresponding window size, or a TEI maximum value.

[0095] In one embodiment, the network entity configure / indicate whether a TEI counter corresponds to a current beam or a new beam, whether a TEI counter is for UEI LTM CSI report or for UEI CSI report for serving cell, and which triggering event (e.g., LTM event for UEI LTM CSI report or beam event for UEI CSI report for serving cell) is associated with a TEI counter.

[0096] In one embodiment, the TEI time window and / or corresponding window size may be configured per CC / serving cell or per cell group. In one embodiment, the window size of a TEI time window may be configured / indicated based on capability report from the UE.

[0097] In one embodiment, if the network entity does not configure the TEI maximum value, the UE may determine the TEI maximum value is one. In one embodiment, the network entity may configure or indicate the TEI maximum value, to the UE, based on capability report from the UE.

[0098] In one embodiment, the TEI counter or TEI time window or TEI maximum value for LTM event (s) and those for beam event (s) associated with UEI CSI report for serving cell may be separate or different. In one embodiment, the TEI counter (or counting of TEI (s) ) or TEI time window or TEI maximum value may be configured / performed per LTM event or per beam event. In one embodiment, the TEI counter or counting of TEI (s) or TEI maximum value may be beam specific or RS specific. In one embodiment, the TEI counter (or counting of TEI (s) ) or TEI time window or TEI maximum value may correspond to a current beam. In one embodiment, the TEI counter (or counting of TEI (s) ) or TEI time window or TEI maximum value may correspond to a new / candidate beam. In one embodiment, the TEI counter (or counting of TEI (s) ) or TEI time window or TEI maximum value may be beam specific or RS specific or cell specific or per LTM candidate cell. In one implementation, the TEI counter or counting of TEI (s) may be beam group specific or RS set specific. The network entity may configure the groups of beams or the set of RSs that share or apply the same TEI counter or jointly counting of TEI (s) . In one embodiment, the UE may further report the maximum number of TEI counters that it can maintain for a DL / UL active BWP, serving cell, a multiple of serving cell (s) , a cell group or a frequency band. In one embodiment, The network entity may configure the beam (s) or RS (s) that are spatially correlated to share or apply the same TEI counter.

[0099] The network entity 104 may transmit 206, to the UE 102 (or the UE 102 may receive 206 from the network entity 104) , reference signals associated with at least one of an LTM cell or a serving cell. The network entity 104 may configure one or more reference signals as one or more new / candidate beams for an LTM cell or current beams for a serving cell.

[0100] The UE 102 may detect 208 the triggering event by measuring and assessing quality of the beams to optionally increment a TEI counter associated with the triggering event. In one embodiment, if the UE detects one TEI from a triggering event, the TEI counter increments by one. In one embodiment, the UE may detect TEI(s) from a triggering event for the current beam or new / candidate beam during the TEI window. The UE may compare the value of the TEI counter with a TEI maximum value.

[0101] The UE 102 may transmit 210, to the network entity 104, (or the network entity 104 may receive 210 from the UE 102) , a UEI LTM CSI report corresponding to the triggering event if the TEI counter for the current beam or new / candidate beam achieves the TEI maximum value or the TEI maximum value plus one.

[0102] The UE 102 may optionally reset 212 the TEI counter associated with the triggering event. In one embodiment, the UE may reset or restart a TEI counter for the current beam or new / candidate beam for a triggering event, in responding to one of the following case (s) :

[0103] - Case 1: A UEI LTM CSI report in responding to the triggering event is transmitted or corresponding acknowledgement signal for the UEI LTM CSI report is received. The UEI CSI report may not report the new / candidate beam corresponding to the TEI counter, or QCL source RS of the new / candidate beam corresponding to the TEI counter.

[0104] - Case 2: A UEI LTM CSI report involving the new / candidate beam corresponding to the TEI counter (or QCL source RS of the new / candidate beam corresponding to the TEI counter) is transmitted or corresponding acknowledgement signal for the UEI LTM CSI report is received.

[0105] - Case 3a: A NWT LTM CSI report or Msg1 / 3 / A for a CBRA / CFRA (contention-based random access / contention-free random access) or a BFRQ (beam failure recovery request) , or corresponding acknowledgement signal is received. The NWT CSI report or Msg1 / 3 / A for a CBRA / CFRA or a BFRQ may not report the  new / candidate beam corresponding to the TEI counter or QCL source RS of the new / candidate beam corresponding to the TEI counter.

[0106] - Case 3b: A NWT LTM CSI report or Msg1 / 3 / A for a CBRA / CFRA or a BFRQ reporting the new / candidate beam corresponding to the TEI counter (or QCL source RS of the new / candidate beam corresponding to the TEI counter) , or corresponding acknowledgement signal is received.

[0107] - Case 4: The current beam (in current serving cell) is updated by the network entity or by BFR completion (i.e., receiving a BFR response corresponding to a BFRQ) . In one embodiment, whether to reset / restart the TEI counter may depend on whether the new beam is still better than the updated current beam. If so, the counter for the current beam or new / candidate beam is still counted based on previous accumulated values; otherwise, the UE may reset / restart the TEI counter.

[0108] - Case 5: The new beam in serving cell or the new / candidate cell beam in a LTM candidate cell is reconfigured. In one embodiment, whether to reset / restart the TEI counter may depend on whether the new beam corresponding to the TEI counter is still in the new beam set after reconfiguration. If so, the counter for the current beam or new / candidate beam is still counted based on previous accumulated values; otherwise, the UE may reset / restart the TEI counter.

[0109] - Case 6: The current or new / candidate beam corresponding to the TEI counter is deactivated. In one embodiment, the initial value for a TEI counter for a newly activated beam may be zero.

[0110] - Case 7: Some of the higher layer configuration in serving cell is changed (e.g., SSB position in burst or the number of transmitted SSBs) or some of the higher layer configuration for LTM (e.g., LTM-Config) or for a LTM candidate cell (e.g., LTM-Candidate) is changed

[0111] - Case 8: Receiving a network indication to reset the TEI counter

[0112] - Case 9: If the serving cell (where the current beam or new / candidate beam corresponding to the TEI counter is transmitted) is SCell, and the SCell is deactivated

[0113] - Case 10: If UE switches from the BWP (where the current beam or new / candidate beam corresponding to the TEI counter is transmitted) to another BWP

[0114] - Case 11: The TEI time window, where the TEI counter is counting, is ended

[0115] - Case 12: A RRM (radio resource management) measurement gap is present

[0116] - Case 13: After transmitting a L3 report, e.g., L3 RSRP / RSSI / RSRQ / SINR, where the L3 report may be configured or triggered by the network entity or triggered based on detected L3 event (s) .

[0117] In one embodiment, whether to configure or apply the above cases (s) may depend on configuration / indication from the network entity and / or capability report from the UE.In one embodiment, after the UE determines to trigger a UEI LTM CSI report or after the UE transmits the UEI LTM CSI report, the UE may reset the timer or counter for the L3 event detection for L3 report, or may determine not to trigger the L3 report although the UE identifies that condition (s) for the L3 event triggered report are fulfilled. In one embodiment, the UE may start or restart the TEI time window if at least one of the above case (s) for resetting or restarting a TEI counter occurs.

[0118] In one embodiment, if the UE does not support counting of TEI for a new / candidate beam for a triggering event, one of the following may be performed by the network entity or the UE:

[0119] - The network entity may still configure the TEI counter, the TEI time window and / or the TEI maximum value, with configuring window size of the TEI time window as indefinite and / or configuring the TEI maximum value as one, or

[0120] - The network entity does not configure the TEI maximum value. In such case, the UE determine the TEI maximum value as one.

[0121] - The network entity does not configure the TEI counter or the TEI time window. IN such case, the UE may determine a UEI CSI report is transmitted in response to detecting a corresponding triggering event once.

[0122] In one embodiment, if a measurement gap is present within the TEI time window, one of the following may occur:

[0123] - The UE may determine the TEI time window is cut or paused. In some case, the UE may determine that the remaining TEI time window follows or resumes after the end of the RRM measurement gap or after the UE performs RRM, and / or

[0124] - The UE may suspend / pause / stop the TEI counter

[0125] FIG. 3 is a signaling diagram 300 illustrating communications between a UE and a network entity for a UEI CSI report for a serving cell by counting TEI according to an embodiment. The network entity 104 may correspond to a base station or a unit of a base station, such as the RU 106, the DU 108, the CU 110, etc.

[0147] In one embodiment, the second response transmission / reception may be skipped.

[0148] In one embodiment, the network entity may configure / indicate the UE to perform an UEI CSI report for serving cell on primary cell (PCell) , primary secondary cell (PSCell) , PUCCH serving cell and / or secondary cell (SCell) . The network entity may configure / indicate the UE to perform the UEI CSI report for serving cell on the active downlink or uplink bandwidth part. In one embodiment, the network entity may configure / indicate, to the UE, an UEI CSI report for serving cell is transmitted via a MAC CE. In one embodiment, the network entity may configure / indicate, to the UE, an UEI CSI report for serving cell is transmitted via a UCI (e.g., a UCI on PUCCH or PUSCH) .

[0149] As mentioned, the network entity may configure / indicate, to the UE, one or more triggering events for a UEI CSI report for serving cell. In one embodiment, the network entity may configure / indicate, to the UE, event ID (s) for the one or more triggering event (s) , which can trigger the UE to transmit an UEI CSI report for serving  cell. In one embodiment, the UE may transmit the UEI CSI report for serving cell in response to detecting one triggering event. In one embodiment, the UE may transmit the UEI CSI report for serving cell in response to detecting at least one triggering event occurring for one or more times.

[0150] The UE may transmit an UEI CSI report for serving cell or may request / notify / indicate an UL resource for transmitting an UEI CSI report for serving cell, in response to detecting at least one of the following beam event (s) for one or more times:

[0151] - Beam Event 1: Quality of the current beam is worse than a certain threshold.

[0152] - Beam Event 2: Quality of at least one new beam, such as L1-RSRP, becomes a threshold value better than the current beam

[0153] - Beam Event 3: Quality of a new beam is better than a certain threshold.

[0154] - Beam Event 4: Quality of the current beam is worse than a threshold 1, and quality of at least one new beam is better than a threshold 2.

[0155] - Beam Event 5: Absolute value of the difference between the quality of the current beam and the quality of at least one new beam is lower than a threshold.

[0156] - Beam Event 6: When the current beam is not in the best K (K>1) beams (out of configured beams for measurement and reporting) .

[0157] - Beam Event 7a: Quality of at least one new beam, such as L1-RSRP, becomes a threshold value better than the RS derived from the activated TCI state with the worst quality.

[0158] - Beam Event 7b: Quality of at least one new beam, such as L1-RSRP, becomes a threshold value better than the RS derived from the activated TCI state with the best quality.

[0159] - Beam Event 8: Quality of M (M>1) new beams, such as L1-RSRP, become a threshold value better than the current beam.

[0160] - Beam Event 9: Quality of at least one new beam, such as L1-RSRP, becomes a threshold value better than the configured reference RS (e.g., SSB or CSI-RS) .

[0161] In one embodiment, the above beam events may concern beams or reference signals in current serving cell. In one embodiment, if the UE is configured or indicated by the network entity to perform UEI LTM CSI reporting and UEI CSI  reporting for serving cell, different threshold values may apply for LTM Event N+1 and beam Event N, where N is integer larger than 0 (if these event (s) are supported or configured) . For example, LTM Event 3 and Beam event 2 may apply different threshold values.

[0162] In one embodiment, for triggering event (s) for UEI LTM CSI report (LTM event (s) ) and triggering event (s) for UEI CSI report for serving cell (Beam event (s) ) , different definition or reference for current beam and / or new / candidate beam may be applied. For example, for LTM event (s) , current beam (s) may be referred to the activated TCI state (s) , or the activated TCI state with best measurement metric; for Beam event (s) , current beam (s) may be referred to the indicated TCI state.

[0163] In one embodiment, the quality metric in above beam event (s) may be L1-SINR. In one embodiment, the quality metric in above beam event (s) may be CQI. In one embodiment, the quality metric in above beam event (s) may be a combination of some or all of L1-RSRP, L1-SINR and / or CQI. For example, the UE may determine beam event 2 is detected if L1-RSRP of at least one new beam becomes a first threshold value better than a current beam in current serving cell, and L1-SINR of at least one new beam becomes a second threshold value better than a current beam in current serving cell.

[0164] In one embodiment, the UE may calculate the quality metric for a cell based on the transmission power of SSB for the cell.

[0165] In one embodiment, for UEI CSI report for serving cell, the network entity may configure the same power offset (power offset between CSI-RS and SSB) for the CSI-RS resources in a CSI-RS resource set or across CSI-RS resource sets configured for new beam (s) and / or current beam (s) . In one embodiment, for UEI CSI report for serving cell, the UE may report the UE capability indicating whether it supports mixed types of RS, e.g., SSBs / CSI-RSs, for new beam (s) and / or current beam (s) .

[0166] In one embodiment, the UE may detect the above beam event (s) based on cell quality (instead of beam quality) . For example, quality of the current beam in serving  cell may be replaced with quality of current serving cell. In one embodiment, the UE may derive or determine quality of current serving cell based on quality of one or more of the current beam (s) in serving cell. In one embodiment, for one or multiple of the beam event (s) above, the quality of the current beam in serving cell may be replaced with the quality of any beam or the best beam among a set of beams, e.g., a set of DL-RS (s) configured by the network entity or pre-defined (e.g., all the transmitted SSB (s) ) , in serving cell. In one embodiment, for one or multiple of the beam event (s) above, the quality of at least one new beam may be replaced with the quality of X new beams, where the value of X may be pre-defined or configured by the network entity.

[0167] In one embodiment, the network entity and UE may determine the current beam (s) based on the DL-RS (s) associated with the indicated TCI state (e.g., TCI state indicated for at least PDCCH and PDSCH) , activated TCI state (s) (e.g., TCI states activated by MAC CE) , or a set of configured TCI states (e.g., TCI states configured by RRC signaling) . In one embodiment, the network entity may configure a set of DL-RS (s) , e.g., SSBs / CSI-RSs, as the current beams (s) by RRC signaling or MAC CE or DCI.

[0168] The network entity may configure / indicate, to the UE, parameters for counting of TEI associated with the above beam events. In one embodiment, the network entity may configure / indicate to the UE to count one or more TEI from a beam event. In one embodiment, the UE may count one TEI associated with a beam event if the UE detects the beam event occurs once. The parameters for counting of TEI associated with a beam event may include one or more of a TEI counter, a TEI time window and / or corresponding window size, or a TEI maximum value. In one embodiment, the parameters for counting TEI associated with a beam event in UEI CSI report for serving cell may be the same as the parameters for counting TEI associated with an LTM event in UEI LTM CSI report.

[0169] In one embodiment, the TEI counter or TEI time window or TEI maximum value for LTM event (s) and those for beam event (s) may be separate or different. In one embodiment, for beam event (s) or for UEI CSI / beam report for serving cell, the TEI counter (or counting of TEI (s) ) or TEI time window or TEI maximum value may be configured / performed per beam event. In one embodiment, the TEI counter or counting of TEI (s) or TEI maximum value may be beam specific or RS specific. In some implementations, the TEI counter (or counting of TEI (s) ) or TEI time window  or TEI maximum value may correspond to a current beam. In some cases, the TEI counter (or counting of TEI (s) ) or TEI time window or TEI maximum value may correspond to a new / candidate beam. In one embodiment, the TEI counter (or counting of TEI (s) ) or TEI time window or TEI maximum value may be beam specific or RS specific or cell specific. In one implementation, the TEI counter or counting of TEI(s) may be beam group specific or RS set specific.

[0170] The network entity 104 may transmit 306, to the UE 102 (or the UE 102 may receive 306 from the network entity 104) , reference signals associated with a serving cell. The network entity 104 may configure one or more reference signals as one or more new beams or current beams for a serving cell.

[0171] The UE 102 may detect 308 the triggering event by measuring and assessing quality of the beams to optionally increment a TEI counter associated with the triggering event (e.g., beam event) . In one embodiment, if the UE detects one TEI from a beam event, the TEI counter increments by one. In one embodiment, the UE may detect TEI (s) from a beam event for the current beam or new / candidate beam during the TEI window. The UE may compare the value of the TEI counter with a TEI maximum value.

[0172] The UE 102 may transmit 310, to the network entity 104, (or the network entity 104 may receive 310 from the UE 102) , a UEI CSI report for serving cell corresponding to the triggering event if the TEI counter for the current beam or new / candidate beam achieves the TEI maximum value or the TEI maximum value plus one. For example, the UE 102 may transmit a UEI CSI report for serving cell for beam event 2 if the TEI counter for counting that the quality of at least one new beam becomes a threshold value better than the current beam achieves the TEI maximum value or TEI maximum value plus one.

[0173] The UE 102 may reset 312 the TEI counter associated with the beam event. In one embodiment, the UE may reset or restart a TEI counter associated with a beam event for UEI CSI report for serving cell under similar conditions or cases (e.g., Case  1 to 13) as discussed for resetting or restarting a TEI counter associated with an LTM for UEI LTM CSI report. For example, the previously discussed cases for resetting or restarting a TEI counter for UEI LTM CSI report may also apply to resetting or restarting a TEI counter for UEI CSI report for serving cell.

[0174] In one embodiment, after the UE determines to trigger a UEI CSI report for serving cell or after the UE transmits the UEI CSI report for serving cell, the UE may reset the timer or counter for the L3 event detection for L3 report, or may determine not to trigger the L3 report although the UE identifies that condition (s) for the L3 event triggered report are fulfilled.

[0175] In one embodiment, if an UEI CSI report for serving cell is triggered by beam event 7a, the UE may report / indicate the activated TCI state in serving cell with the worst measurement metric (e.g., L1-RSRP / L1-SINR) in the UEI CSI report for serving cell.

[0176] In one embodiment, if an UEI CSI report for serving cell is triggered by beam event 7b, the UE may report / indicate at least one of the followings in the UEI CSI report for serving cell:

[0177] - The activated TCI state in serving cell with the best measurement metric (e.g., L1-RSRP / L1-SINR) , and / or

[0178] - The activated TCI state in serving cell with the worst measurement metric (e.g., L1-RSRP / L1-SINR) , and / or

[0179] - An activated TCI state in serving cell selected / determined by the UE.

[0180] FIG. 4 is a diagram 400 illustrating an example of UE counting TEI according to an embodiment.

[0181] TEI counter 420 associated with a triggering event may initially be at N. TEI maximum value 440 for the TEI counter 420 may be configured to be N+1. During the time when the TEI time window 430 is active, a UE may detect 208 / 308 a triggering event for UEI CSI report for LTM cell or serving cell such as an LTM event for UEI LTM CSI report or a beam event for UEI CSI report for serving cell. The UE may increment the TEI counter 420 to N+1 based on the detected triggering event.

[0182] Because the TEI counter 420 now reaches the maximum value 440, the UE may transmit 210 / 310 a UEI LTM CSI report or a UEI CSI report for serving cell to the network entity. In response to transmitting the UEI CSI report, the UE may reset 212 / 312 the TEI counter 420.

[0183] FIGs. 5-6 show methods for implementing one or more aspects of FIGs. 2-4. In particular, FIG. 5 shows an implementation by the UE 102 of the one or more aspects of FIGs. 2-4. FIG. 6 shows an implementation by the network entity 104 of the one or more aspects of FIGs. 2-4

[0184] FIG. 5 is a flowchart of a method 500 of wireless communication at a UE 102 for UEI CSI report for a LTM cell or a serving cell by counting triggering event instances (TEI) according to an embodiment. With reference to FIG. 1, the method 500 may be performed by the UE 102.

[0185] The UE 102 optionally transmits 502, to a network entity 104, UE capability information on supported configuration for at least one of LTM, UEI CSI report, triggering events for the UEI CSI report, or counting of TEI. For example, referring to FIG. 2, the UE 102 may optionally transmit 202, to the network entity 104, UE’s capability on supported, recommended, or preferred configuration for UEI beam reporting.

[0186] In another example, referring to FIG. 3, the UE 102 may optionally transmit 302, to the network entity 104, UE’s capability on supported, recommended, or preferred configuration for UE-initiated beam reporting. In one embodiment, UE 102 may report at least one of the following capabilities: whether the UE 102 supports UEI CSI or beam reporting for serving cell; supported triggering events for the UEI CSI or beam report for serving cell; or whether the UE 102 supports counting the number of TEI for the triggering events. In one embodiment, the network entity 104 may receive the capability information of the UE 102 from a core network (e.g., Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF) ) . In one embodiment, the network entity 104 may receive the capability information from another base station (e.g., gNB or eNB) .

[0187] The UE 102 receives 504, from the network entity 104, control signaling indicating parameters for at least one of a LTM configuration, UEI CSI report configuration, a triggering event for a UEI CSI report, or counting of TEI associated with the triggering event. For example, referring to FIG. 2, the UE 102 may receive 204, from the network entity 104, control signaling indicating parameters to enable UEI LTM CSI or beam reporting. In one embodiment, the parameters may include  an LTM configuration (e.g., LTM-Config) , UEI LTM CSI report configuration, one or more triggering events for a UEI LTM CSI report, and / or parameters for counting of TEI associated with the triggering events. In one embodiment, the parameters for counting of TEI may include TEI counter, TEI time window, and / or TEI maximum value.

[0211] The UE-initiated beam reporting configuration component 150 may be within one or more processors of the one or more network entities 104, such as the RU processor 806 (e.g., at 150a) , the DU processor 826 (e.g., at 150b) , and / or the CU processor 846 (e.g., at 150c) . The UE-initiated beam reporting configuration component 150a-150c may be one or more hardware components specifically configured to carry out the stated processes / algorithm, implemented by one or more processors 806, 826, 846 configured to perform the stated processes / algorithm, stored within a computer-readable medium for implementation by the one or more processors 806, 826, 846, or a combination thereof.

[0212] The specific order or hierarchy of blocks in the processes and flowcharts disclosed herein is an illustration of example approaches. Hence, the specific order or hierarchy of blocks in the processes and flowcharts may be rearranged. Some blocks may also be combined or deleted. Dashed lines may indicate optional elements of the diagrams. The accompanying method claims present elements of the various blocks in an example order, and are not limited to the specific order or hierarchy presented in the claims, processes, and flowcharts.

[0213] The detailed description set forth herein describes various configurations in connection with the drawings and does not represent the only configurations in which the concepts described herein may be practiced. The detailed description includes specific details for the purpose of providing a thorough explanation of various concepts. However, these concepts may be practiced without these specific details. In some instances, well known structures and components are shown in block diagram form in order to avoid obscuring such concepts.

[0214] Aspects of wireless communication systems, such as telecommunication systems, are presented with reference to various apparatuses and methods. These apparatuses and methods are described in the following detailed description and are illustrated in the accompanying drawings by various blocks, components, circuits, processes, call flows, systems, algorithms, etc. (collectively referred to as “elements” ) . These elements may be implemented using electronic hardware, computer software, or combinations thereof. Whether such elements are implemented as hardware or software depends upon the particular application and design constraints imposed on the overall system.

[0215] An element, or any portion of an element, or any combination of elements may be implemented as a “processing system” that includes one or more processors. Examples of processors include microprocessors, microcontrollers, graphics processing units (GPUs) , central processing units (CPUs) , application processors, digital signal processors (DSPs) , reduced instruction set computing (RISC) processors, systems-on-chip (SoC) , baseband processors, field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) , programmable logic devices (PLDs) , state machines, gated logic, discrete hardware circuits, and other similar hardware configured to perform the various functionality described throughout this disclosure. One or more processors in the processing system may execute software, which may be referred to as software, firmware, middleware, microcode, hardware description language, or otherwise. Software shall be construed broadly to mean instructions, instruction sets, code, code segments, program code, programs, subprograms, software components, applications, software applications, software packages, routines, subroutines, objects, executables, threads of execution, procedures, functions, or any combination thereof.

[0216] If the functionality described herein is implemented in software, the functions may be stored on, or encoded as, one or more instructions or code on a computer-readable medium, such as a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium. Computer-readable media includes computer storage media and can include a random-access memory (RAM) , a read-only memory (ROM) , an electrically erasable programmable ROM (EEPROM) , optical disk storage, magnetic disk storage, other magnetic storage devices, combinations of these types of computer-readable media, or any other medium that can be used to store computer executable code in the form of instructions or data structures that can be accessed by a computer. Storage media may be any available media that can be accessed by a computer.

[0217] Aspects, implementations, and / or use cases described herein may be implemented across many differing platform types, devices, systems, shapes, sizes, and packaging arrangements. For example, the aspects, implementations, and / or use cases may come about via integrated chip implementations and other non-module-component based devices, such as end-user devices, vehicles, communication devices, computing devices, industrial equipment, retail / purchasing devices, medical devices, artificial intelligence (AI) -enabled devices, machine learning (ML) -enabled devices, etc. The aspects, implementations, and / or use cases may range from chip-level or modular components to non-modular or non-chip-level implementations, and further to aggregate, distributed, or original equipment manufacturer (OEM) devices or systems incorporating one or more techniques described herein.

[0218] Devices incorporating the aspects and features described herein may also include additional components and features for the implementation and practice of the claimed and described aspects and features. For example, transmission and reception of wireless signals necessarily includes a number of components for analog and digital purposes, such as hardware components, antennas, RF-chains, power amplifiers, modulators, buffers, processor (s) , interleavers, adders / summers, etc. Techniques described herein may be practiced in a wide variety of devices, chip-level components, systems, distributed arrangements, aggregated or disaggregated components, end-user devices, etc., of varying configurations.

[0219] The description herein is provided to enable a person skilled in the art to practice the various aspects described herein. Various modifications to these aspects will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art, and the generic principles defined herein may be applied to other aspects. Thus, the claims are not limited to the aspects described herein, but are to be interpreted in view of the full scope of the present disclosure consistent with the language of the claims.

[0220] Reference to an element in the singular does not mean “one and only one” unless specifically stated, but rather “one or more. ” Terms such as “if, ” “when, ” and “while” do not imply an immediate temporal relationship or reaction. That is, these phrases, e.g., “when, ” do not imply an immediate action in response to or during the occurrence of an action, but simply imply that if a condition is met then an action will occur, but without requiring a specific or immediate time constraint for the action to occur. The terms “may” , “might” , and “can” , as used in this disclosure, often carry certain connotations. For example, “may” refers to a permissible feature that may or may not  occur, “might” refers to a feature that probably occurs, and “can” refers to a capability (e.g., capable of) . The phrase “For example” often carries a similar connotation to “may” and, therefore, “may” is sometimes excluded from sentences that include “for example” or other similar phrases.

[0221] Unless specifically stated otherwise, the term “some” refers to one or more. Combinations such as “at least one of A, B, or C” or “one or more of A, B, or C” include any combination of A, B, and / or C, such as A and B, A and C, B and C, or A and B and C, and may include multiples of A, multiples of B, and / or multiples of C, or may include A only, B only, or C only. Sets should be interpreted as a set of elements where the elements number one or more.

[0222] Unless otherwise specifically indicated, ordinal terms such as “first” and “second” do not necessarily imply an order in time, sequence, numerical value, etc., but are used to distinguish between different instances of a term or phrase that follows each ordinal term. Reference numbers, as used in the specification and figures, are sometimes cross-referenced among drawings to denote same or similar features. A feature that is exactly the same in multiple drawings may be labeled with the same reference number in the multiple drawings. A feature that is similar among the multiple drawings, but not exactly the same, may be labeled with reference numbers that have different leading numbers, but have one or more of the same trailing numbers (e.g., 206, 306, 406, etc., may refer to similar features in the drawings) . Hence, like numbers may refer to like actions.

[0223] Structural and functional equivalents to elements of the various aspects described throughout this disclosure that are known or later come to be known to those of ordinary skill in the art are expressly incorporated herein by reference and are encompassed by the claims. The words “module, ” “mechanism, ” “element, ” “device, ” and the like may not be a substitute for the word “means. ” As such, no claim element is to be construed as a means plus function unless the element is expressly recited using the phrase “means for. ” As used herein, the phrase “based on” shall not be construed as a reference to a closed set of information, one or more conditions, one or more factors, or the like. In other words, the phrase “based on A” , where “A” may be information, a condition, a factor, or the like, shall be construed as “based at least on A” unless specifically recited differently.
