Abstract

A hydrogel material is provided that includes a polymer matrix and a plurality of cellular units dispersed within the polymer matrix to form a cellular structure, wherein each cellular unit of the plurality of cellular units includes a stiff region and at least one soft region enclosed by the stiff region, and the hydrogel material develops a plurality of strain-induced heterogeneous subdomains upon application of a tensile load. Also provided is a method of preparing such hydrogel material, use of such hydrogel material, and an article of manufacture including such hydrogel material.
