Abstract

Example embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution for channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) based measurement for CSSF optimization. In an example method, a terminal device performs at least one synchronization signal (SS) based measurement including at least one SS / physical broadcast channel (PBCH) block (SSB) based measurement associated with reduction of carrier specific scaling factor (CSSF) on a first cell on a first carrier for deriving timing information, without performing timing related measurement on a second cell on another carrier. Then, based on the timing information obtained from the first cell on the first carrier, the terminal device performs at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell on another carrier.

[0047] FIG. 1B illustrates a schematic diagram of an example communication architecture 105 for CSI-RS based measurement according to some embodiments of the present disclosure. As exampled in FIG. 1B, the network device 120 comprises cell 130-1, 130-2 and 130-3 in the same band with CA operation. The terminal device 110 is configured to perform SSB-based measurement only on the cell 130-1 but not on the cell 130-2 or 130-3 for the intra-band FR2 CA. The UE will reuse the measurement result from 130-1 for the cell 130-2 and 130-3. Further, the terminal device 110 is configured to perform CSI-RS-based measurement on the cell 130-3 based on the measurement result from cell 130-1.

[0048] In 3GPP release 19, the enhancements for NR and MR-DC RRM requirements is studied. The objective is frequency range 2-1, FR2-1, synchronization signal block, SSB based layer 3, L3, measurement delay reduction. To this end, carrier specific scaling factor (CSSF) optimization is to be considered for UE not in multiple-Rx simultaneous reception mode. Some methods are introduced to reduce FR2-1 L3 measurement delay by optimizing CSSF outside gap in CA / DC scenarios where the baseline assumption on number of searchers is 2.

[0049] As specified in TS 38.133 clause 9.1.5, CSSF values are derived to scale the measurement delay requirements when UE is configured to monitor multiple measurement objects (MOs) in NR CA or MR-DC scenarios. Taking NR carrier aggregation (CA) as example as below, the CSSF values for Secondary Component Carrier (SCC) are determined based on the number of configured secondary cells (SCells) with L3 measurements. As mentioned above, the assumption behind is the 2 searchers used for L3 measurements, wherein 1 searcher is used for Primary Component Carrier (PCC) and the other searcher is used for the measurements on all SCCs. As the 2nd searcher is shared among the measurements on all SCCs, the measurement time will be scaled by the number of SCCs.

[0050] In particular, the SSB-based measurement in one cell contributes to 1 frequency layer to be measured, i.e. 1x NSCC_SSB, to the overall CSSF value. In contrast, the CSI-RS-based measurement in one cell contributes to 2 frequency layers to be measured, i.e. 2x NSCC_CSIRS, to the overall CSSF value, as the UE needs to measure both associatedSSB and CSI-RS resources on the cell. The definition for NSCC_SSB and NSCC_CSIRS are introduced in Table 9.1.5.1.2-1 in TS 38.133 clause 9.1.5, wherein NSCC_CSIRS is the number of configured SCell (s) with either both SSB and CSI-RS based L3 measurement configured or only CSI- RS based L3 measurement configured, while NSCC_SSB is the number of configured SCell (s) with only SSB based L3 measurement configured, which is measured without measurement gap (MG) .

[0051] In 3GPP release 19, one of the potential solutions for CSSF optimizations is to minimize the SSB-based measurements on serving cells and the measurement delay on cells. The most popular proposal is to measure only one serving cells per band if there are multiple serving cells on the band, that is, UE is only required to measure one serving cell per band if multiple serving cells are in the same band. Alternatively, UE can change the searcher occupancy ratio of PCC or PSCC measurement to speed up SCC measurement for some conditions. In another option, for UE supporting per FR gap, when all MOs are to be measured outside gap, the searcher used for within gap can be leveraged for outside gap. CSSFoutsidegap can be optimized, as these MOs can share totally three searchers.

[0052] Meanwhile, CSI-RS based L3 measurement requirement was specified in release16. It is assumed that associatedSSB is always configured in CSI-RS based measurement configuration, and UE needs to detect the associatedSSB before measuring the CSI-RS resources.

[0053] Generally, the requirements on the UE regarding CSI-RS based measurement reporting in RRC_CONNECTED state are split in intra-frequency and inter-frequency measurements requirements. The requirements comprise: only one MO is configured per CSI-RS frequency layer; and all CSI-RS resources in the same MO are configured with the same csi-rs-MeasurementBW; and associatedSSB is configured in CSI-RS-Resource-Mobility and detectable; and all CSI-RS resources in the same MO are configured with the same periodicity; and the associated SSB is QCLed with the corresponding CSI-RS resources in FR2.

[0054] The existence of the field associatedSSB indicates that the UE may base the timing of the CSI-RS resource indicated in CSI-RS-Resource-Mobility on the timing of the cell indicated by the cellId in the CSI-RS-CellMobility. In this case, the UE is not required to monitor that CSI-RS resource if the UE cannot detect the SS / PBCH block indicated by this associatedSSB and cellId. On the other hand, the absence of the field associatedSSB indicates that the UE shall base the timing of the CSI-RS resource indicated in CSI-RS-Resource-Mobility on the timing of the serving cell indicated by refServCellIndex. In this case, the UE is required to measure the CSI-RS resource even if SS / PBCH block (s) with cellId in the CSI- RS-CellMobility are not detected. CSI-RS resources with and without associatedSSB may be configured in accordance with the rules in TS 38.214

[0019] , clause 5.1.6.1.3.

[0055] In 3GPP release 19, while CSSF optimization is applied to the SSB-based measurement, e.g UE is configured with servingCellMO on single cell (i.e. measured cell) per band, it is not required to measure SSBs on other cells (i.e. non-measured cells) in order to reduce the CSSF value and hence reduce the measurement delay. The justification behind is the UE can reuse the measurement result on the measured cell for non-measured cells on the same band.

[0056] However, without SSB measurement on a cell, the UE is not able to perform legacy CSI-RS based measurement on the cell either because of no measurement on associatedSSB. As CSI-RS based measurement is to get a measurement results on CSI-RS beams, this may not be reusable for other cells and the measurements on CSI-RS are still expected to be performed.

[0057] Similar problem is observed when CSI-RS based measurement is configured without associatedSSB. According to TS38.133 below, the UE will use the timing from a reference cell indicated by refServCellIndex for the measurements on the CSI-RS resources. If the reference cell is not measured due to CSSF optimization, the UE may not get the timing hence cannot measure the CSI-RS resources accordingly. The refServCellIndex indicates the serving cell providing the timing reference for CSI-RS resources without associatedSSB. This field may be present only if there is at least one CSI-RS resource configured without associatedSSB. If this field is absent, the UE shall use the timing of the PCell for measurements on the CSI-RS resources without associatedSSB. The CSI-RS resources and the serving cell indicated by refServCellIndex for timing reference should be located in the same band.

[0058] According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, there is provided a solution that enables the UE to perform CSI-RS based measurement on the cells while the SSB-based measurement is skipped due to CSSF optimization. CSSF optimization also refers to the measurements associated with the reduction of CSSF. With this solution, the measurement delay is reduced by minimizing the measurements on the cells, thereby improving the performance of communication with measurement and reporting. Principles and embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0059] FIG. 2 illustrates a flowchart illustrating an example process 200 for CSI-RS based measurement for CSSF optimization according to some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the process 200 will be described with reference to FIG. 1A. The process 200 may involve the terminal device 110 and the network device 120 as illustrated in FIG. 1A. It would be appreciated that although the process 200 for link has been described in the communication network 100 of FIG. 1A, this process may be likewise applied to other communication scenarios where different network devices are jointly deployed to provide respective serving cells.

[0060] As shown in FIG. 2, at 202, the terminal device 110 transmits to the network device 120 a capability information 204 indicating that the terminal device 110 supports the measurement associated with reduction of carrier specific scaling factor (CSSF) .

[0061] Then, at 212, based on receiving the capability information 204 at 206, the network device 120 transmit, to the terminal device 110, configuration information 214 for performing, based on a timing information derived from a first cell on a first carrier, at least one channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) based measurement on a second cell on another carrier.

[0062] In some embodiments, the configuration information further comprises first information for configuring the at least one SSB based measurement associated with reduction of CSSF on the first cell on the first carrier for deriving timing information. The first information may further comprise not configuring the timing related measurement on the second cell on another carrier.

[0063] In some embodiments, the configuration information further comprises second information for indicating that CSSF optimization is enabled for the at least one SSB-based measurement; and

[0064] In some embodiments, the configuration information further comprises third information for configuring the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell.

[0065] At 220, the terminal device 110 performs at least one synchronization signal (SS) based measurement associated with reduction of carrier specific scaling factor (CSSF) on a first cell on a first carrier for deriving timing information, without performing timing related measurement on a second cell on another carrier.

[0066] In some embodiments, the at least one synchronization signal (SS) based measurement may include at least one SS  / physical broadcast channel (PBCH) block (SSB)  based measurement associated with reduction of carrier specific scaling factor (CSSF) .

[0067] At 230, the terminal device 110 performs based on the timing information obtained from the first cell on the first carrier, at least one channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) based measurement on the second cell on another carrier provided the configured associatedSSB is not measured for a reduction of CSSF.

[0068] In some embodiments, based on determining that the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell is configured with at least one associated SSB from which the timing information is obtained, the terminal device 110 may further determine at least one SSB from the first cell as the at least one associated SSB of the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell provided the configured associatedSSB is not measured for a reduction of CSSF.

[0069] In some embodiments, based on determining that only one serving cell is configured with at least one SSB based measurement on a same band as the second cell, the terminal device 110 may further determine the first cell as the only one serving cell for deriving the timing information to be used for the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell.

[0070] Alternatively, in some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may further select a cell for which at least one SSB based measurement is performed by the terminal device 110 on a same band as the second cell.

[0071] In this embodiment, the terminal device 110 may further determine the first cell as the selected cell for deriving the timing information to be used for the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell.

[0072] Alternatively, in some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may further receive, from the network device 120, a first indication of a cell configured with at least one SSB based measurement from which timing information is to be reused for another cell configured with at least one CSI-RS based measurement. In some embodiments, based on the first indication, the terminal device 110 may further determine the first cell as the indicated cell in the first indication for deriving the timing information to be used for the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell.

[0073] Alternatively, in some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may further receive, from the network device 120, a second indication of a cell configured with at least one SSB based measurement from which timing information is to be reused for the second cell. In  some embodiments, based on the second indication, the terminal device 110 may further determine the first cell as the indicated cell in the second indication for deriving the timing information to be used for the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell.

[0074] In this embodiment, the second indication may be included in an “associatedSSB” information element (IE) for the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell.

[0075] In some embodiments, based on determining that (i) the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell is not configured with at least one associated SSB and (ii) timing related measurement on a reference cell configured for the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell is not performed due to the measurement associated with reduction of CSSF, the terminal device 110 may further determine a cell for which at least one SSB based measurement is performed by the terminal device as the first cell.

[0076] In some embodiments, the first cell may comprise: a serving cell configured with at least one SSB based measurement on a same band as the second cell; a first indicated cell by the network device120 that is configured with at least one SSB based measurement from which timing is to be reused for the reference cell configured with CSI-RS based measurement; a second indicated cell that is configured with at least one SSB based measurement from which timing is to be reused for the second cell configured with CSI-RS based measurement; or a selected cell for which at least one SSB based measurement is performed by the terminal device.

[0077] With the solution of the process, the UE is enabled to perform CSI-RS based measurement on the cells while the SSB-based measurement is skipped for CSSF optimization. With this solution, the measurement delay is reduced by minimizing the measurements on the cells, thereby improving the performance of communication with measurement and reporting. Principles and embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0078] In the implementation, UE is required to perform CSI-RS based measurement (for mobility, if configured) on the non-measured cells based on the timing from a measured cell (in the band) , when CSSF optimization is enabled. Herein measured cells refer to the cell where SSB-based measurement is performed, and non-measured cells refer to the cells where SSB-based measurement is not performed due to CSSF optimization. In particular, if the CSI-RS based measurement is configured with associatedSSB, and the associatedSSB is not measured due to CSSF optimization, the UE will determine the associatedSSB from a  measured cell, wherein different alternatives can be considered as below.

[0079] In the first option, the UE will determine the associatedSSB as the SSB from the serving cell configured with ServingCellMO on the same band (if only one serving cell is configured with ServingCellMO on the band) . The UE will base the timing of the CSI-RS resource on the timing of the cell configured with ServingCellMO on the same band.

[0080] As illustrated in FIG. 1B, UE is configured with ServingCellMO only on the cell 130-1 but not on the cell 130-2 or 130-3 for the intra-band FR2 CA. The UE will perform SSB-based measurement on the cell 130-1and reuse the measurement result for the cell 130-2 and 130-3 (hence, it is assumed that measurement performed on the cell 130-1 are representative for the cell 130-2 and 130-3) . If the UE is configured with CSI-RS based measurement on the cell 130-3, the UE has not measured associatedSSB on this cell, hence it will use the SSB from measured cell, i.e. the cell 130-1, as the associatedSSB and perform CSI-RS based measurement on the cell 130-3 based on the timing of associatedSSB on the cell 130-1.

[0081] In the second option, the UE will determine the associatedSSB as the SSB from a “mother” cell indicated by network if more than one serving cells are configured with ServingCellMO on the band. The “mother” cell is a cell configured with SSB-based measurement from which the timing can be reused for the cell configured with CSI-RS based measurement. The UE will base the timing of the CSI-RS resource on the timing of the “mother” cell configured with ServingCellMO on the same (or different) band.

[0082] In the third option, the UE will determine the associatedSSB as the SSB from the selected cell where SSB is measured on the same band. The cell is selected via UE implementation e.g. PCC / PSCC on the band and the SSB measured on this selected cell will be assumed as the associatedSSB for CSI-RS based measurement. The UE will base the timing of the CSI-RS resource on the timing of the selected cell on the same band.

[0083] In the fourth option, the network will explicitly indicate a specific cell and possibly one or more SSB indexes where SSB-based measurement may be performed, as the associatedSSB. This other cell can be a “mother” cell configured by network for CSSF optimization. In particular, in associatedSSB IE, network may indicate additional “cellID_CSSF” indicating the associatedSSB is from another cell instead of the same cell where the CSI-RS resource to be measured is from.

[0084] In another aspect, if the CSI-RS based measurement is not configured with  associatedSSB, and the reference cell indicated by Refservcellindex is not measured due to CSSF optimization, the UE will use the timing from a measured cell. The measured cell can be the serving cell configured with ServingCellMO on the same band (if only one serving cell is configured with ServingCellMO on the band) , or the “mother” cell of the reference cell, or the “mother” cell of the cell where CSI-RS resource is configured, if indicated by the network, or the selected cell where SSB-based measurement is performed.

[0085] In another aspect, network may indicate if CSI-RS based measurement is to be performed while skipping the SSB-based measurement for CSSF optimization. Above principle applies only if network indicates the CSI-RS based measurement is to be performed, otherwise the UE may skip both SSB-based measurement and CSI-RS based L3 measurement on the indicated CCs. Alternatively, even if the UE is allowed skipping the SSB-based measurement for CSSF optimization, if the UE is configured with CSI-RS L3 measurements on the CC, the UE shall perform the CSI-RS based L3 measurements unless explicitly notified that they are not to be performed.

[0086] In another aspect, UE will determine the CSSF values based on the number of CCs where CSI-RS based measurement is performed i.e. “2” times of NSCC_CSIRS is not needed. As the UE determines the associatedSSB from the other measured cell, the UE can skip the SSB-measurement on the cell where CSI-RS based measurement is performed, only one frequency layer is counted on the cell configured with CSI-RS based measurement.

[0087] FIG. 3 illustrates a flowchart illustrating another example process 300 for CSI-RS based measurement according to some embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0088] In FIG. 3, there is detailed signaling workflow to illustrate how the UE implicitly determines the associatedSSB for CSI-RS based measurement when CSSF optimization is indicated. For the purpose of discussion, the process 300 will be described with reference to FIG. 1A. The process 300 may involve the terminal device 110, the cells 130-1, 130-2 and 130-3 as illustrated in FIG. 1A. It would be appreciated that although the process 300 has been described in the communication network 100 of FIG. 1A, this process may be likewise applied to other communication scenarios where different network devices are jointly deployed to provide respective serving cells.

[0089] As shown in FIG. 3, the terminal device 110 is in connected mode at 305 with PCell 130-1, cell 130-2, cell 130-3 and cell 130-4 in the same band with CA operation. Hence the terminal device 110 measurements on PCell 130-1, cell 130-2, cell 130-3 and cell 130-4 are  intra-frequency measurements.

[0090] At 310, the terminal device 110 indicates, to the network, its capability of supporting optimized CSSF. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 is considered supporting the optimized CSSF for SSB-based measurement e.g. reusing the measurement result from measured CC to all the CCs on the same band.

[0091] Alternatively, in some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may further indicate if it additionally supports the optimized CSSF for CSI-RS based measurement.

[0092] At 315, network provides the measurement configuration e.g. configuring ServingCellMO only on PCell 130-1 but not on cell 130-2 to 130-4.

[0093] In some embodiments, network further indicates that CSSF optimization is enabled for SSB-based measurement (as a default) . In some embodiments, network further configures CSI-RS based measurement on cell 130-4.

[0094] In some embodiments, as CSSF optimization is enabled, the terminal device 110 is expected to measure SSB only on PCell 130-1, while does not measure the SSBs on all the other cells in the same band. Specifically, as shown in FIG. 3, the terminal device 110 receive SSB 325 from the PCell 130-1 and SSB 335 from the cell 130-2 at 320, and then the terminal device 110 can perform the SSB-based measurement on PCell 130-1 at 330. However, the terminal device 110 will not perform the SSB-based measurement on cell 130-2 due to CSSF optimization.

[0095] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 is configured to perform CSI-RS based measurement on the cell 130-4, based on the solution illustrated in FIG. 4, the UE 110 may determine the associatedSSB as the SSB in measured cell i.e. SSB from PCell 130-1. Specifically, as shown in FIG. 3, the terminal device 110 receive CSI-RS 345 from the cell 130-4 at 340, and then the terminal device 110 can perform the CSI-RS-based measurement on the cell 130-4 at 350 by using the timing the PCell 130-1.

[0096] FIG. 4 illustrates a flowchart illustrating another example process 400 for CSI-RS based measurement according to some embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0097] In FIG. 4, there is detailed signaling workflow to illustrate how the UE explicitly determines the associatedSSB for CSI-RS based measurement when CSSF optimization is indicated, based on explicit indication from network. For the purpose of discussion, the process 400 will be described with reference to FIG. 1A. The process 400 may involve the  terminal device 110, the cells 130-1, 130-2 and 130-3 as illustrated in FIG. 1A. It would be appreciated that although the process 400 has been described in the communication network 100 of FIG. 1A, this process may be likewise applied to other communication scenarios where different network devices are jointly deployed to provide respective serving cells.

[0098] As shown in FIG. 4, the terminal device 110 is in connected mode at 405 with PCell 130-1, cell 130-2, cell 130-3 and cell 130-4 in the same band with CA operation. Hence the terminal device 110 measurements on PCell 130-1, cell 130-2, cell 130-3 and cell 130-4 are intra-frequency measurements.

[0099] At 410, the terminal device 110 indicates, to the network, its capability of supporting optimized CSSF. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 is considered supporting the optimized CSSF for SSB-based measurement e.g. reusing the measurement result from measured CC to all the CCs on the same band.

[0100] Alternatively, in some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may further indicate if it additionally supports the optimized CSSF for CSI-RS based measurement.

[0101] At 415, network provides the measurement configuration e.g. configuring ServingCellMO only on PCell 130-1 but not on cell 130-2 to 130-4.

[0102] In some embodiments, network may further indicate that CSSF optimization is enabled for SSB-based measurement (as a default) . In some embodiments, network further configures CSI-RS based measurement on cell 130-4. Specifically, in some embodiments, network may further indicate from which cell the SSB is used as associatedSSB.

[0103] In some embodiments, as CSSF optimization is enabled, the terminal device 110 is expected to measure SSB only on PCell 130-1, while does not measure the SSBs on all the other cells in the same band. Specifically, as shown in FIG. 3, the terminal device 110 receive SSB 425 from the PCell 130-1 and SSB 435 from the cell 130-2 at 420, and then the terminal device 110 can perform the SSB-based measurement on PCell 130-1 at 430. However, the terminal device 110 will not perform the SSB-based measurement on cell 130-2 due to CSSF optimization.

[0104] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 is configured to perform CSI-RS based measurement on the cell 130-4. Specifically, as shown in FIG. 3, the terminal device 110 receive CSI-RS 445 from the cell 130-4 at 440, and then the terminal device 110 can perform the CSI-RS-based measurement based on the SSB indicated in celllD_cssf of the associatedSSB IE at 450.

[0105] FIG. 5 illustrates an example format of field “associatedSSB” for CSI-RS based measurement according to some embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0106] The difference from Fig. 3 is that network may indicate the cell index from which the UE 110 will determine the associatedSSB. In some embodiments, the network will indicate an associatedSSB for CIS-RS measurement to the UE 110 by adding cellID_cssf to the associatedSSB IE, as illustrated in FIG. 5. Therefore, the UE 110 will use the timing from the cell indicated by cellID_cssf when CSSF optimization is applied and the UE 110 is not measuring the cell due to CSSF optimization where CSI-RS based measurement is configured.

[0107] FIG. 6 illustrates a flowchart illustrating another example process 600 for CSI-RS based measurement according to some embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0108] In FIG. 6, there is detailed signaling workflow to illustrate how the UE determining the timing for CSI-RS based measurement when associatedSSB is not configured. For the purpose of discussion, the process 600 will be described with reference to FIG. 1A. The process 600 may involve the terminal device 110, the cells 130-1, 130-2 and 130-3 as illustrated in FIG. 1A. It would be appreciated that although the process 600 has been described in the communication network 100 of FIG. 1A, this process may be likewise applied to other communication scenarios where different network devices are jointly deployed to provide respective serving cells.

[0109] As shown in FIG. 6, the terminal device 110 is in connected mode at 605 with PCell 130-1, cell 130-2, cell 130-3 and cell 130-4 in the same band with CA operation. Hence the terminal device 110 measurements on PCell 130-1, cell 130-2, cell 130-3 and cell 130-4 are intra-frequency measurements.

[0110] At 610, the terminal device 110 indicates, to the network, its capability of supporting optimized CSSF. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 is considered supporting the optimized CSSF for SSB-based measurement e.g. reusing the measurement result from measured CC to all the CCs on the same band.

[0111] Alternatively, in some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may further indicate if it additionally supports the optimized CSSF for CSI-RS based measurement.

[0112] At 615, network provides the measurement configuration e.g. configuring ServingCellMO only on PCell 130-1 but not on cell 130-2 to 130-4.

[0113] In some embodiments, network further indicates that CSSF optimization is enabled for SSB-based measurement (as a default) . In some embodiments, network further configures CSI-RS based measurement without associatedSSB.

[0114] In some embodiments, as CSSF optimization is enabled, the terminal device 110 is expected to measure SSB only on PCell 130-1, while does not measure the SSBs on all the other cells in the same band. Specifically, as shown in FIG. 6, the terminal device 110 receive SSB 625 from the PCell 130-1 and SSB 635 from the cell 130-2 at 620, and then the terminal device 110 can perform the SSB-based measurement on PCell 130-1 at 630. However, the terminal device 110 will not perform the SSB-based measurement on cell 130-2 due to CSSF optimization.

[0115] In this embodiment, the terminal device 110 is configured to perform CSI-RS based measurement on the cell 130-4. However, network configures CSI-RS based measurement on the cell 130-4 without associatedSSB. The network further indicates the value of field “refserCellIndex” is the cell 130-3, which means the timing of the cell 130-3 will be used for CSI-RS based measurement on the cell 130-4. Specifically, as shown in FIG. 3, the terminal device 110 receive CSI-RS 645 from the cell 130-4 at 640, and then the terminal device 110 can perform the CSI-RS-based measurement based on the SSB in PCell 130-1 at 650.

[0116] However, since the SSB-based measurement is not performed on the cell 130-3 due to CSSF optimization, the UE 110 will use the timing from a reference cell. In some embodiments, this reference cell can be the cell configured with servingCellMO i.e. PCell 130-1. Alternatively, in some embodiments, this reference cell can be a measured cell on the same band.

[0117] In view of the above description of the various embodiments of the present disclosure, these embodiments of the present disclosure provide the solutions that the UE is allowed to perform CSI-RS based measurement on the cells where the SSB-based measurement is skipped for CSSF optimization. In another aspect, these embodiments of the present disclosure allow network to control the CSI-RS based measurement independent from the SSB-based measurement when CSSF optimization is applied to SSB-based measurement. Further, these embodiments of the present disclosure further reduce the measurement delay by optimizing the CSSF values contributed from CSI-RS based measurement.

[0118] FIG. 7 illustrates a flowchart of an example method 700 implemented at a terminal  device according to some other embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 700 will be described from the perspective of the terminal device 110 with reference to FIG. 1A.

[0119] At block 710, the terminal device 110 may perform at least one synchronization signal (SS) based measurement including at least one SS  / physical broadcast channel (PBCH) block (SSB) based measurement associated with reduction of carrier specific scaling factor (CSSF) on a first cell on a first carrier for deriving timing information, without performing timing related measurement on a second cell on another carrier.

[0120] At block 720, the terminal device 110 may perform, based on the timing information obtained from the first cell on the first carrier, at least one channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) based measurement on the second cell on another carrier.

[0121] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may further receive a configuration information from a network device 120, wherein the configuration information comprises: first information for configuring the at least one SSB based measurement associated with reduction of CSSF on the first cell on the first carrier for deriving timing information without configuring the timing related measurement on the second cell on another carrier; second information for indicating that CSSF optimization is enabled for the at least one SSB-based measurement; and third information for configuring the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell.

[0122] In some embodiments, based on determining that the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell is configured with at least one associated SSB from which the timing information is obtained, the terminal device 110 may further determine at least one SSB from the first cell as the at least one associated SSB of the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell provided the configured associatedSSB is not measured for a reduction of CSSF.

[0123] In some embodiments, based on determining that only one serving cell is configured with at least one SSB based measurement on a same band as the second cell, the terminal device 110 may further determine the first cell as the only one serving cell for deriving the timing information to be used for the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell.

[0124] Alternatively, in some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may further select a cell for which at least one SSB based measurement is performed by the terminal device 110  on a same band as the second cell.

[0125] In this embodiment, the terminal device 110 may further determine the first cell as the selected cell for deriving the timing information to be used for the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell.

[0126] Alternatively, in some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may further receive, from the network device 120, a first indication of a cell configured with at least one SSB based measurement from which timing information is to be reused for another cell configured with at least one CSI-RS based measurement. In some embodiments, based on the first indication, the terminal device 110 may further determine the first cell as the indicated cell in the first indication for deriving the timing information to be used for the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell.

[0127] Alternatively, in some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may further receive, from the network device 120, a second indication of a cell configured with at least one SSB based measurement from which timing information is to be reused for the second cell. In some embodiments, based on the second indication, the terminal device 110 may further determine the first cell as the indicated cell in the second indication for deriving the timing information to be used for the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell.

[0128] In this embodiment, the second indication may be included in an “associatedSSB” information element (IE) for the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell.

[0129] In some embodiments, based on determining that (i) the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell is not configured with at least one associated SSB and (ii) timing related measurement on a reference cell configured for the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell is not performed due to the measurement associated with reduction of CSSF, the terminal device 110 may further determine a cell for which at least one SSB based measurement is performed by the terminal device as the first cell.

[0130] In some embodiments, the first cell may comprise: a serving cell configured with at least one SSB based measurement on a same band as the second cell; a first indicated cell by the network device120 that is configured with at least one SSB based measurement from which timing is to be reused for the reference cell configured with CSI-RS based measurement; a second indicated cell that is configured with at least one SSB based measurement from which timing is to be reused for the second cell configured with CSI-RS based measurement; or a selected cell for which at least one SSB based measurement is  performed by the terminal device.

[0131] In some embodiments, the configuration information may further indicate whether at least one CSI-RS based measurement on a cell is to be performed in the case that at least one SSB-based measurement on the cell is skipped due to the measurement associated with reduction of CSSF.

[0132] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may further determine a CSSF value based on a number of cells on which at least one CSI-RS based measurement is performed, wherein the at least one CSI-RS-based measurement in one cell contributes to 1 frequency layer to be measured.

[0133] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may further transmit, to the network device 120, capability information indicating that the terminal device supports the measurement associated with reduction of CSSF.

[0134] In some embodiments, the capability information may indicate that the CSSF optimization is supported for at least one of (i) at least one SSB based measurement or (ii) at least one CSI-RS based measurement.

[0135] FIG. 8 illustrates a flowchart of an example method 800 implemented at a network device according to some other embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 700 will be described from the perspective of the network device 120 with reference to FIG. 1A.

[0136] At block 810, the network device 120 may transmit, to a terminal device 110, configuration information for performing, based on a timing information derived from a first cell on a first carrier, at least one channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) based measurement on a second cell on another carrier, wherein at least one synchronization signal (SS) based measurement including at least one SS  / physical broadcast channel (PBCH) block (SSB) based measurement associated with reduction of carrier specific scaling factor (CSSF) is performed on the first cell on the first carrier for deriving the timing information, and wherein timing related measurement is not performed on the second cell on another carrier.

[0137] In some embodiments, the configuration information may further comprises: first information for configuring the at least one SSB based measurement associated with reduction of CSSF on the first cell on the first carrier for deriving timing information without configuring the timing related measurement on the second cell on another carrier; second information for indicating that CSSF optimization is enabled for the at least one SSB-based  measurement; and third information for configuring the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell.

[0138] In some embodiments, the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell is configured with at least one associated SSB from which the timing information is obtained.

[0139] In some embodiments, the network device 120 may further transmit, to the terminal device 110, a first indication of a cell configured with at least one SSB based measurement from which timing information is to be reused for another cell configured with at least one CSI-RS based measurement.

[0140] Alternatively, in some embodiments, the network device 120 may further transmit, to the terminal device 110, a second indication of a cell configured with at least one SSB based measurement from which timing information is to be reused for the second cell.

[0141] In this embodiment, the second indication may be included in an “associatedSSB” information element (IE) for the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell.

[0142] In some embodiments, the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell is not configured with at least one associated SSB, and timing related measurement on a reference cell configured for the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell is not performed due to the measurement associated with reduction of CSSF.

[0143] In some embodiments, the network device 120 may further indicate, to the terminal device 110, at least one of the following as the first cell: a cell that is configured with at least one SSB based measurement from which timing is to be reused for the reference cell configured with CSI-RS based measurement; or a cell that is configured with at least one SSB based measurement from which timing is to be reused for the second cell configured with CSI-RS based measurement.

[0144] In some embodiments, the configuration information may further indicate whether at least one CSI-RS based measurement on a cell is to be performed in the case that at least one SSB-based measurement on the cell is skipped due to the measurement associated with reduction of CSSF.

[0145] In some embodiments, the network device 120 may further receive, from the terminal device 110, capability information indicating that the terminal device 110 supports the measurement associated with reduction of CSSF.

[0146] In some embodiments, the capability information may indicate that the CSSF optimization is supported for at least one of (i) at least one SSB based measurement or (ii) at least one CSI-RS based measurement.

[0147] In some embodiments, an apparatus capable of performing any of the method 700 (for example, the terminal device 110) may comprise means for performing the respective steps of the method 700. The means may be implemented in any suitable form. For example, the means may be implemented in a circuitry or software module.

[0148] In some embodiments, the apparatus may comprise means for performing at least one synchronization signal (SS) based measurement including at least one SS  / physical broadcast channel (PBCH) block (SSB) based measurement associated with reduction of carrier specific scaling factor (CSSF) on a first cell on a first carrier for deriving timing information, without performing timing related measurement on a second cell on another carrier.

[0149] In some embodiments, the apparatus may further comprise means for performing, based on the timing information obtained from the first cell on the first carrier, at least one channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) based measurement on the second cell on another carrier.

[0150] In some embodiments, the apparatus may further comprise means for receiving a configuration information from a network device, wherein the configuration information comprises: first information for configuring the at least one SSB based measurement associated with reduction of CSSF on the first cell on the first carrier for deriving timing information without configuring the timing related measurement on the second cell on another carrier; second information for indicating that CSSF optimization is enabled for the at least one SSB-based measurement; and third information for configuring the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell.

[0151] In some embodiments, the apparatus may further comprise means for: based on determining that the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell is configured with at least one associated SSB from which the timing information is obtained, determining at least one SSB from the first cell as the at least one associated SSB of the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell provided the configured associatedSSB is not measured for a reduction of CSSF.

[0152] In some embodiments, the apparatus may further comprise means for: based on  determining that only one serving cell is configured with at least one SSB based measurement on a same band as the second cell, determining the first cell as the only one serving cell for deriving the timing information to be used for the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell.

[0153] Alternatively, in some embodiments, the apparatus may further comprise means for selecting a cell for which at least one SSB based measurement is performed by the terminal device on a same band as the second cell.

[0154] In this embodiment, the apparatus may further comprise means for determining the first cell as the selected cell for deriving the timing information to be used for the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell.

[0155] Alternatively, in some embodiments, the apparatus may further comprise means for receiving, from the network device, a first indication of a cell configured with at least one SSB based measurement from which timing information is to be reused for another cell configured with at least one CSI-RS based measurement. In some embodiments, based on the first indication, the terminal device may further determine the first cell as the indicated cell in the first indication for deriving the timing information to be used for the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell.

[0156] Alternatively, in some embodiments, the apparatus may further comprise means for receiving, from the network device, a second indication of a cell configured with at least one SSB based measurement from which timing information is to be reused for the second cell. In this embodiment, the apparatus may further comprise means for: based on the second indication, determining the first cell as the indicated cell in the second indication for deriving the timing information to be used for the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell.

[0157] In this embodiment, the second indication may be included in an “associatedSSB” information element (IE) for the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell.

[0158] In some embodiments, the apparatus may further comprise means for: based on determining that (i) the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell is not configured with at least one associated SSB and (ii) timing related measurement on a reference cell configured for the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell is not performed due to the measurement associated with reduction of CSSF, determining a cell for which at least one SSB based measurement is performed by the terminal device as  the first cell.

[0159] In some embodiments, the first cell may comprise: a serving cell configured with at least one SSB based measurement on a same band as the second cell; a first indicated cell by the network device that is configured with at least one SSB based measurement from which timing is to be reused for the reference cell configured with CSI-RS based measurement; a second indicated cell that is configured with at least one SSB based measurement from which timing is to be reused for the second cell configured with CSI-RS based measurement; or a selected cell for which at least one SSB based measurement is performed by the terminal device.

[0160] In some embodiments, the configuration information may further indicate whether at least one CSI-RS based measurement on a cell is to be performed in the case that at least one SSB-based measurement on the cell is skipped due to the measurement associated with reduction of CSSF.

[0161] In some embodiments, the apparatus may further comprise means for determining a CSSF value based on a number of cells on which at least one CSI-RS based measurement is performed, wherein the at least one CSI-RS-based measurement in one cell contributes to 1 frequency layer to be measured.

[0162] In some embodiments, the apparatus may further comprise means for transmitting, to the network device, capability information indicating that the terminal device supports the measurement associated with reduction of CSSF.

[0163] In some embodiments, the capability information may indicate that the CSSF optimization is supported for at least one of (i) at least one SSB based measurement or (ii) at least one CSI-RS based measurement.

[0164] In some embodiments, the apparatus may further comprise means for performing other steps of some embodiments of method 700. In some embodiments, the means may comprise at least one processor and at least one memory comprising computer program code, wherein the at least one memory and computer program code are configured with the at least one processor to cause the performance of the apparatus.

[0165] In some embodiments, an apparatus capable of performing any of the method 800 (for example, the network device 120) may comprise means for performing the respective steps of the method 800. The means may be implemented in any suitable form. For example, the means may be implemented in a circuitry or software module.

[0166] In some embodiments, the apparatus may comprise means for transmitting, to a terminal device, configuration information for performing, based on a timing information derived from a first cell on a first carrier, at least one channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) based measurement on a second cell on another carrier, wherein at least one synchronization signal (SS) based measurement including at least one SS  / physical broadcast channel (PBCH) block (SSB) based measurement associated with reduction of carrier specific scaling factor (CSSF) is performed on the first cell on the first carrier for deriving the timing information, and wherein timing related measurement is not performed on the second cell on another carrier.

[0167] In some embodiments, the configuration information may further comprises: first information for configuring the at least one SSB based measurement associated with reduction of CSSF on the first cell on the first carrier for deriving timing information without configuring the timing related measurement on the second cell on another carrier; second information for indicating that CSSF optimization is enabled for the at least one SSB-based measurement; and third information for configuring the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell.

[0168] In some embodiments, the at least one CSI-RS based measurement on the second cell is configured with at least one associated SSB from which the timing information is obtained.
