Abstract

Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a method, a controller, and a system for detecting an item under a vehicle. In the method, in response to obtaining a detection instruction to detect an item under a vehicle, a camera attached to a track is controlled to move from a first area of the track to a second area of the track. The track is installed under the vehicle, and the first area is above the second area. At least one image under the vehicle captured by the camera is obtained. The item under the vehicle is recognized based on the at least one image. According to the method, the camera stays in the first area before obtaining a detection instruction. Since the first area is above the second area, the camera can be kept in a safer place when it is not working, especially when passing over uneven roads.

Description

METHOD, CONTROLLER, AND SYSTEM FOR DETECTING AN ITEM UNDER A VEHICLEFIELD

[0001] Embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to driver assistance technology, and in particular, to a method, a controller and a system for detecting an item under a vehicle.BACKGROUND

[0002] Usually, vehicle drivers park their vehicles in parking lots or on the roadsides. These places are often a habitat of stray animals. In winter or bad weather, these animals may hide under the vehicle, because the condition under the vehicle is relatively dry and warm. If the drivers did not notice the animals under the vehicle before driving the vehicle, these animals would be crushed during a movement of the vehicle, resulting in injury or even death of these animals. At the same time, this may also cause the vehicle to malfunction.SUMMARY

[0003] In general, embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution for detecting an item under a vehicle.

[0004] In a first aspect, there is provided a method for detecting an item under a vehicle. The method comprises controlling, in response to obtaining a detection instruction to detect an item under a vehicle, a camera attached to a track to move from a first area of the track to a second area of the track. The track is installed under the vehicle, and the first area is above the second area. The method further comprises obtaining at least one image under the vehicle captured by the camera, and recognizing the item under the vehicle based on the at least one image. According to the method, the camera stays in the first area before obtaining a detection instruction, and moves to the second area in response to the detection instruction, for performing a better detection. Since the first area is above the second area, the camera can be kept in a safer place when it is not working, especially when the vehicle is passing over uneven roads.

[0005] In some embodiments of the first aspect, the second area of the track may extend from a front to a rear of the vehicle. In this way, the camera can move between the front  and the rear of the vehicle, so as to capture images of a large space under the vehicle.

[0006] In some embodiments of the first aspect, the second area of the track may be substantially parallel to a chassis of the vehicle. In this way, the camera can stay at any positions in the second area of the track, without sliding due to gravity of the earth.

[0007] In some embodiments of the first aspect, the method may further comprise controlling the camera to stay in the first area of the track during movement of the vehicle. Since the first area is higher than the second area, the camera will encounter less risk of damage, especially when the vehicle is passing over uneven roads. In addition, since the camera is kept in a higher place when it is not working, it is harder to be reached by the animal under the vehicle, and will encounter less risk of scratch by the animal.

[0008] In some embodiments of the first aspect, the method may further comprise controlling, in response to obtaining a waiting instruction to wait at the first area, the camera to move from the second area of the track to the first area of the track. In this way, the camera goes back to the first area after detection. Since the first area is higher than the second area, the camera will encounter less risk of damage, especially when the vehicle is passing over uneven roads. In addition, since the camera is kept in a higher place, it is harder to be reached by the animal under the vehicle, and will encounter less risk of scratch by the animal.

[0009] In some embodiments of the first aspect, the action of obtaining at least one image under the vehicle captured by the camera may comprise controlling a movement of the camera along the track and / or an orientation of the camera, and controlling the camera to capture a plurality of images from different angles and / or at different positions of the track. This allows the camera to capture images of more space under the vehicle.

[0010] In some embodiments of the first aspect, the method may further comprise playing, in response to determining that the item under the vehicle is an animal, a sound for driving away the animal. This assists the drivers driving away the animal under the vehicle automatically, therefore is very friendly to the drivers.

[0011] In some embodiments of the first aspect, the method may further comprise determining, in response to determining that the item under the vehicle is an animal, a class of the animal, and playing a dispersion sound specific to the class of the animal for driving away the animal. The dispersion sound specific to the class of the animal may include a sound that the class of the animal fears, or a sound that the class of the animal dislikes. This  takes the characteristics of the animal into consideration, and thus is more effective for driving away the animal.

[0012] In some embodiments of the first aspect, the method may further comprise obtaining a geographical location of the vehicle, determining a group of animals living in the geographical location, and obtaining a dispersion sound specific to designated animals in the group. Since the vehicle may travel across different geographical locations, and the animals living in different geographical locations may vary, if the animals which may go under the vehicle are identified, dispersion sounds specific to those animals may be downloaded for backup in advance. There is no need of downloading specific dispersion sounds for all kinds of animal. In this way, more types of animals can be driven away by the specific dispersion sound, but not occupying a large storage space.

[0013] In some embodiments of the first aspect, the at least one image may include a first image and a second image in succession. The action of recognizing the item under the vehicle based on the at least one image may comprise: comparing the first image and the second image, determining, in response to a difference between the first image and the second image being higher than a difference threshold, that a new item is under the vehicle, and recognizing the new item under the vehicle from the second image. In this way, it does not need to recognize items in every image captured by the camera, and thus computation resources can be reduced.

[0014] In some embodiments of the first aspect, the action of obtaining at least one image under the vehicle captured by the camera may comprise determining whether a brightness under the vehicle is lower than a light threshold, and controlling, in response to the brightness under the vehicle being lower than the light threshold, an infrared lens of the camera to capture the at least one image. In this way, even if the light under the vehicle is insufficient, the image can be captured in a good resolution.

[0015] In a second aspect, there is provided an apparatus for detecting an item under a vehicle. The apparatus comprises a controlling module, configured to control, in response to obtaining a detection instruction to detect an item under a vehicle, a camera attached to a track to move from a first area of the track to a second area of the track. The track is installed under the vehicle, and the first area is above the second area. The apparatus further comprises an obtaining module, configured to obtain at least one image under the vehicle captured by the camera, and a recognizing module, configured to recognize the item under the vehicle  based on the at least one image.

[0016] In a third aspect, there is provided a controller. The controller comprises at least one processor and a memory coupled to the at least one processor. The memory has instructions stored therein which, when executed by the processor, cause the controller to perform the method according to the first aspect of the present disclosure.

[0017] In a fourth aspect, there is provided a system for detecting an item under a vehicle. The system comprises a track installed under the vehicle, a camera attached to the track, and a controller configured to control, in response to obtaining a detection instruction to detect an item under a vehicle, the camera to move from a first area of the track to a second area of the track, obtain at least one image under the vehicle captured by the camera, and recognize the item under the vehicle based on the at least one image. The first area is above the second area.

[0018] In some embodiments of the fourth aspect, the controller may be further configured to control the camera to stay in the first area of the track during movement of the vehicle, and / or control, in response to obtaining a waiting instruction to wait at the first area, the camera to move to the first area of the track.

[0019] In some embodiments of the fourth aspect, the controller may be further configured to determine, in response to determining that the item under the vehicle is an animal, a class of the animal, play a dispersion sound specific to the class of the animal for driving away the animal.

[0020] In some embodiments of the fourth aspect, the system may further comprise a charging unit. The charging unit is configured to charge the controller. The charging unit is arranged in the first area of the track.

[0021] In some embodiments of the fourth aspect, the system may further comprise a driving unit. The driving unit is configured to drive the camera to move along the track.

[0022] In some embodiments of the fourth aspect, the system may further comprise a communication unit. The communication unit is configured to send the image captured by the camera to the controller.

[0023] In some embodiments of the fourth aspect, the system may further comprise an alarm unit. The alarm unit is configured to play a dispersion sound when an animal under the vehicle is detected.

[0024] In a fifth aspect, there is provided a vehicle comprising a system according to the fourth aspect of the present disclosure.

[0025] In a sixth aspect, there is provided a computer program product tangibly stored on a computer-readable medium and comprising machine-executable instructions. The machine-executable instructions, when executed, cause a machine to perform the method according to the first aspect of the present disclosure.

[0026] In a seventh aspect, there is provided a method for driving away an animal under a vehicle. The method comprises obtaining at least one image under the vehicle captured by the camera, recognizing an item under the vehicle based on the at least one image, determining, in response to determining that the item under the vehicle is an animal, a class of the animal, and playing a dispersion sound specific to the class of the animal for driving away the animal.

[0042] The principle of the present disclosure will now be described with reference to some embodiments. It is to be understood that these embodiments are described only for the purpose of illustration and to help those skilled in the art to understand and implement the present disclosure, without suggesting any limitation as to the scope of the disclosure. The disclosure described herein can be implemented in various manners other than the ones described below.

[0043] In the following description and claims, unless defined otherwise, all technical and  scientific terms used herein have the same meaning as commonly understood by one of the ordinary skills in the art to which this disclosure belongs.

[0044] References in the present disclosure to “one embodiment, ” “some embodiments, ” “an embodiment, ” and the like indicate that the embodiment described may include a particular feature, structure, or characteristic, but it is not necessary that every embodiment includes the particular feature, structure, or characteristic. Moreover, such phrases are not necessarily referring to the same embodiment. Further, when a particular feature, structure, or characteristic is described in connection with some embodiments, it is submitted that it is within the knowledge of one skilled in the art to affect such feature, structure, or characteristic in connection with other embodiments, whether or not explicitly described.

[0045] It shall be understood that although the terms “first” and “second” etc. may be used herein to describe various elements, these elements should not be limited by these terms. These terms are only used to distinguish one element from another. For example, a first element could be termed a second element, and similarly, a second element could be termed a first element, without departing from the scope of embodiments. As used herein, the term “and / or” includes any and all combinations of one or more of the listed terms.

[0046] The terminology used herein is for the purpose of describing particular embodiments only and is not intended to be limiting to embodiments. As used herein, the singular forms “a, ” “an, ” and “the” are intended to include the plural forms as well, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise. It will be further understood that the terms “comprises, ” “comprising, ” “has, ” “having, ” “includes, ” and / or “including, ” when used herein, specify the presence of stated features, elements, and / or components, etc., but do not preclude the presence or addition of one or more other features, elements, components and / or combinations thereof.

[0047] As known, a detection of surroundings before starting a vehicle is an essential step for driving. The drivers are responsible for this step. However, some of the drivers may skip this step and lead to some problems. For example, sometimes drivers may not notice that there are animals under the vehicle. They may start the vehicle and cause these animals to be crushed, resulting in injury or even death of these animals. At the same time, these animals may also cause the vehicle to malfunction. Therefore, before starting the vehicle, it is very important to check if any foreign objects exist under the vehicle, such as cats, dogs and other animals.

[0048] Currently, the drivers may need to check the underneath of the vehicle by themselves.  If the drivers want to check the underneath of the vehicle, they may need to lie on the ground and observe from the gap between the vehicle and the ground. This is not only inefficient, but also very unfriendly to the drivers.

[0049] With the development of autonomous driving technology, modern vehicles may be required to perform a pre-start inspection by themselves. For example, the vehicles may be equipped with various additional components such as a monitoring device for detecting an item under the vehicle. The monitoring device is installed under the vehicle. During a movement of the vehicle, the vehicle may pass uneven road. Protruding objects on the uneven road may hit against the monitoring device, and may thus damage the monitoring device.

[0050] In accordance with embodiments of the present disclosure, there is provided a solution for detecting an item under a vehicle to solve at least the above problem. In the solution, a track is installed under the vehicle, and a camera is attached to the track. The track includes a first area and a second area, and the first area is above the second area. If a detection instruction to detect an item under a vehicle is obtained, the camera is controlled to move from the first area of the track to the second area of the track. At least one image under the vehicle captured by the camera is obtained. And the item under the vehicle is recognized based on the at least one image.

[0051] With the solution of the present disclosure, the camera stays in the first area before obtaining a detection instruction, and moves to the second area in response to the detection instruction, for performing a better detection. Since the first area is above the second area, the camera can be kept in a safer place when it is not working, especially when the vehicle is passing over uneven roads.

[0052] Principles and embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings. Reference is now made to Fig. 1, which illustrates a schematic diagram of an example environment in which embodiments of the present disclosure may be implemented.

[0053] As shown in Fig. 1, the example environment includes a vehicle 1. A system 10 for detecting an item under a vehicle 1, in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure, may be implemented in the vehicle 1. The system 10 may include a track 11, a monitoring device 12 and a controller 13. The track 11 is installed under the vehicle 1. The monitoring device 12 including a camera is attached to the track 11. The controller 13,  such as vehicle control unit (VCU) of the vehicle 1, may communicate with the monitoring device 12. The controller 13 may control the monitoring device 12 to perform various actions according to embodiments of the present disclosure, such as staying in a higher area of the track when not working, and moving from the higher area of the track to a lower area of the track to detect the item under the vehicle. The controller 13 will be described in more detail in connection with Fig. 8 below.

[0054] As used herein, a vehicle 1 refers to any type of motorized vehicle that is capable of carrying persons and / or objects and is movable. The examples of the vehicle 1 include but are not limited to cars, sport utility vehicles (SUVs) , buses, trucks, aircraft, hybrid cars, electric cars, plug-in hybrid electric cars, hydrogen-powered cars, and other alternative fuel cars (e.g., fuels from sources other than petroleum) . The embodiments of the present disclosure are not limited to a specific type of vehicles, but are generally applicable to any environment of a vehicle having a chassis.

[0055] It is to be understood that the environment is described only for illustrative purposes. There may also be other devices, systems, or components that are not shown in the environment. For example, there may be additional information presentation components on the vehicle 1, such as a display for reminding the drivers that an animal is under the vehicle 1.

[0056] Reference is now made to Fig. 2, which illustrates a flowchart of an example method 200 for detecting an item under a vehicle, in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. The example method 200 may be performed, for example, by the vehicle 1 (e.g., by the controller 13 of the vehicle 1, or a microcontroller unit (MCU) of the monitoring device 12) shown in Fig. 1. It should be understood that the method 200 may also include additional actions not shown, and the scope of the present disclosure is not limited in this regard. The method 200 is described in detail below in connection with the example environment of Fig. 1.

[0057] At block 202, the method 200 determines whether a detection instruction to detect an item under a vehicle is obtained. The detection instruction may be generated by the driver manually, or may be generated automatically upon a starting of the vehicle 1. In a case that the example method 200 is performed by the controller 13 of the vehicle 1, the detection instruction may be sent to the controller 13 directly. In a case that the example method 200 is performed by the MCU of the monitoring device 12, the detection instruction  may be sent from the controller 13 to the MCU.

[0058] If the detection instruction is not obtained, then the process goes back to block 202, to wait for the detection instruction. If the detection instruction is obtained ( “Y” at block 202) , then the process goes to block 204 to control a camera attached to a track 11 to move from a first area of the track 11 to a second area of the track 11. As mentioned above, the track 11 is installed under the vehicle 1, and the first area is above the second area. In the context, “the first area is above the second area” means that the first area is higher than the second area in the vertical direction, when the vehicle 1 is in a normal gesture. In other words, the first area is between a chassis of the vehicle 1 and the second area. In some embodiments, the first area may be connected to the second area directly. In some alternative embodiments, the first area may be connected to the second area via a third area of the track 11. In other words, the first area may not be connected to the second area directly.

[0059] In a case that the example method 200 is performed by the controller 13 of the vehicle 1, the controller 13 may send a move instruction to the MCU of the monitoring device 12, so as to cause the MCU to control the movement of the camera. In a case that the example method 200 is performed by the MCU of the monitoring device 12, the MCU of the monitoring device 12 may generate a move instruction to control the movement of the camera in response to the detection instruction.

[0060] At block 206, at least one image under the vehicle 1 captured by the camera is obtained. In some embodiment, the camera may capture the at least one image under the vehicle 1 automatically after arriving the second area. In a case that the example method 200 is performed by the controller 13 of the vehicle 1, the MCU of the monitoring device 12 may send at least one image under the vehicle 1 captured by the camera to the controller 13. In a case that the example method 200 is performed by the MCU of the monitoring device 12, the MCU of the monitoring device 12 may obtain the at least one image under the vehicle 1 directly from the camera.

[0061] At block 208, the item under the vehicle 1 is recognized based on the at least one image. In a case that the example method 200 is performed by the controller 13 of the vehicle 1, the controller 13 may perform an image recognition operation on the at least one image. In a case that the example method 200 is performed by the MCU of the monitoring device 12, the MCU of the monitoring device 12 may perform an image recognition operation  on the at least one image. Alternatively, the MCU may send the at least one image to the controller 13, and cause the controller 13 to perform an image recognition operation on the at least one image. Since the computation resources of the controller 13 is more than the MCU, the item in the image can be recognized better by the controller 13.

[0062] With the solution of the example method 200, the camera stays in the first area before obtaining a detection instruction, and moves to the second area in response to the detection instruction, for performing a better detection. Since the first area is above the second area, the camera can be kept in a safer place when it is not working, especially when the vehicle 1 is passing over uneven roads. In addition, since the camera is kept in a higher place when it is not working, it is harder to be reached by the animal under the vehicle 1, and will encounter less risk of scratch by the animal.

[0063] In some embodiments, each image captured by the camera is processed by an image recognition technique, in order to recognize the item under the vehicle 1. This requires no historical image, and the item under vehicle 1 can be recognized based on a single image.

[0064] In some alternative embodiments, the at least one image includes a first image and a second image in succession. During the process of recognizing the item under the vehicle 1 based on the at least one image, the first image is compared with the second image. If a difference between the first image and the second image is higher than a difference threshold, the method 200 determines that a new item is under the vehicle 1. Then the new item under the vehicle 1 is recognized from the second image. It is appreciated that the item in an initial image captured by the camera is recognized in these embodiments, such that a motionless animal, such as a sleeping animal, can be recognized. In this way, it does not need to recognize items in every image captured by the camera, and thus computation resources can be reduced.

[0065] In some embodiments, during the process of obtaining at least one image under the vehicle 1 captured by the camera, the method 200 determines whether a brightness under the vehicle 1 is lower than a light threshold. The brightness may be determined by a light sensor of the monitoring device 12. If the brightness under the vehicle 1 is lower than the light threshold, an infrared lens of the camera is controlled to capture the at least one image. In this way, even if the light under the vehicle 1 is insufficient, the image can be captured in a good resolution.

[0066] Fig. 3 illustrates a sectional view of the monitoring device 12 and the track 11, in  accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. As shown in Fig. 3, the track 11 has a groove on each side, in which wheels 121-1, 121-2 of the monitoring device 12 can be accommodated and roll from one end of the track 11 to another end of the track 11. On the right side, a first connector 122-1 of the monitoring device 12 connects to the wheel 121-1, and a second connector 123-1 of the monitoring device 12 connects to the first connector 122-1 and a substrate 127 of the monitoring device 12. On the left side, a first connector 122-2 of the monitoring device 12 connects to the wheel 121-2, and a second connector 123-2 of the monitoring device 12 connects to the first connector 122-2 and a substrate 127 of the monitoring device 12. The substrate 127 may include a printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) . Some electronic components of the monitoring device 12 are arranged on the PCBA, such as a power unit 125, a driving unit 124, a communication unit (not shown) , or an alarm unit (not shown) . The power unit 125 may include a battery, which is used to provide power to the electronic components of the monitoring device 12. The driving unit 124 may include a motor, which is used to implement horizontal and rotational movements of the camera 128. A rotation part 126, such as a pan tilt or an electric gimbal, may be attached to the substrate 127 and hold the camera 128. The rotational movements of the camera 128 can be realized by the rotation part 126.

[0067] It should be understood that the components in Fig. 3 are shown only for the purpose of illustrating the basic structure. In a specific implementation, a single component can be implemented by multiple components, and the functions of multiple components can be realized by one component. Further, the monitoring device 12 may also include additional components not shown in Fig. 3, for example, a charging interface for charging the power unit 125 and / or an embedded antenna for communication.

[0068] Reference is now made to Fig. 4, which illustrates a side view of the monitoring device 12 and the track 11, in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. The track 11 may include a first area and a second area. In the context, the first area can be alternatively referred to as a waiting area or a waiting segment, and the second area can be alternatively referred to as a working area or a working segment. Before and after a detection operation of the item under the vehicle 1, the monitoring device 12 stays in the waiting area. During the detection operation, the monitoring device 12 may travel through the track 11.

[0069] As shown in Fig. 4, the waiting area of the track 11 is above the working area of the track 11. An angle θ between the waiting area and the horizon line is positive. In the  example of Fig. 4, the monitoring device 12 is at the working area.

[0070] In some embodiments, the working area of the track 11 extends from a front to a rear of the vehicle 1, as shown in Fig. 1. In this way, the camera 128 can move between the front and the rear of the vehicle 1, so as to capture images of a large space under the vehicle 1.

[0071] In some embodiments, the working area of the track 11 is substantially parallel to a chassis of the vehicle 1, as shown in Fig. 1. In this way, the camera 128 can stay at any positions in the working area of the track 11, without sliding due to gravity of the earth.

[0072] Fig. 5 illustrates another side view of the monitoring device 12 and the track 11, in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. In the example of Fig. 5, the monitoring device 12 is at the waiting area. The waiting area is not directly connected to the working area. The monitoring device 12 may go to the highest place of the waiting area of the track 11, so the monitoring device 12 may be safer at the highest place than at any other lower place of the track 11.

[0073] In some embodiments, a charging unit may be arranged in the waiting area of the track 11. In the example of Fig. 5, the charging unit 1210 is arranged at the highest place of the waiting area of the track 11. When the monitoring device 12 goes to the highest place of the waiting area, it can be charged automatically. As shown in Fig. 5, a harness or a cable 129 connecting to the PCBA may be connected to the charging unit 1210, such that the power unit 125 of the monitoring device 12 can be charged.

[0074] In some embodiments, the charging unit 1210 may be connected to a power source of the vehicle 1, via, for example, an additional harness or cable, which is not shown in Fig. 5. In this way, the power source of the vehicle 1 can be utilized directly. Alternatively, the charging unit 1210 may include an additional battery, which can provide power source during the charging period. This requires no change of the vehicle 1, such that the system 10 is easier to be implemented in the vehicle 1.

[0075] Fig. 6 illustrates a flowchart of some further steps of the example method 200 of Fig. 2, in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. At block 602, the method 200 determines whether the vehicle 1 is moving. If the vehicle 1 is moving ( “Y” at block 602) , the camera 128 is controlled to stay in the waiting area of the track 11 at block 606. Since the waiting area is higher than the working area, the camera 128 will encounter less risk of damage, especially when the vehicle 1 is passing over uneven roads.

[0076] At block 604, the method 200 determines whether a waiting instruction to wait at the waiting area is obtained. The waiting instruction may be generated by the driver manually, or may be generated automatically upon an end of the detection. If the waiting instruction is obtained ( “Y” at block 604) , the camera 128 is controlled to move from the working area of the track 11 back to the waiting area of the track 11 at block 606. In this way, the camera 128 goes back to the waiting area after detection. Since the waiting area is higher than the working area, the camera 128 will encounter less risk of damage, especially when the vehicle 1 is passing over uneven roads. In addition, since the camera 128 is kept in a higher place, it is harder to be reached by the animal under the vehicle 1, and will encounter less risk of scratch by the animal.

[0077] In some embodiments, during the process of obtaining at least one image under the vehicle 1 captured by the camera 128, the camera 128 may be controlled to move along the track 11, and an orientation of the camera 128 may also be controlled. Therefore, the camera 128 may be controlled to capture a plurality of images from different angles and / or at different positions of the track 11. This allows the camera 128 to capture images of more space under the vehicle 1.

[0078] In some embodiments, if any abnormality is detected, the controller 13 may display on a screen of the vehicle 1 a reminder notice, such as a message, or an image under the vehicle 1, such that the driver could respond accordingly.

[0079] In some alternative embodiments, if the method 200 determines that the item under the vehicle 1 is an animal, the controller 13 of the vehicle 1 may control a speaker of the vehicle 1 to play a sound for driving away the animal, or the monitoring device 12 may control the alarm unit (if any) to play the sound for driving away the animal. This assists the drivers driving away the animal under the vehicle 1 automatically, therefore is very friendly to the drivers.

[0080] The inventors of the present disclosure notice that sometimes a unified sound may not drive away all kinds of animals. If the characteristics of animals, including species, region, and other aspects, are taken into consideration for generating the sound for driving away the animal, the sound may be more useful. Fig. 7 illustrates a flowchart of an example method 700 for driving away an animal under a vehicle 1, in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. The example method 700 may be performed by the controller 13 of the vehicle 1, or by the MCU of the monitoring device.

[0081] At block 702, at least one image under the vehicle 1 captured by the camera 128 is obtained. At block 704, the item under the vehicle 1 is recognized based on the at least one image. The action performed at block 702 may be the same as the action performed at block 206 of Fig. 2. The action performed at block 704 may be the same as the action performed at block 208 of Fig. 2.

[0082] At block 706, the method 200 determines whether the item under the vehicle 1 is an animal. If the method 200 determines that the item under the vehicle 1 is not an animal ( “N” at block 706) , the process goes back to block 702 to obtain a further image under the vehicle 1. If the method 200 determines that the item under the vehicle 1 is an animal ( “Y” at block 706) , the process goes to block 708 to determine a class of the animal. Then at block 710, a dispersion sound specific to the class of the animal is played for driving away the animal. The dispersion sound specific to the class of the animal may include a sound that the class of the animal fears, or a sound that the class of the animal dislikes. This takes the characteristics of the animal into consideration, and thus is more effective for driving away the animal.

[0083] In some embodiments, the dispersion sound specific to many classes of the animals may be downloaded in advance. But it is not necessary to download dispersion sound specific to every class of the animals, which would cause occupation of a large storage space. Therefore, in some alternative embodiments, a geographical location of the vehicle 1 is obtained. Then a group of animals living in the geographical location is determined. It is noticed that not everyone in the group could stay under the vehicle 1. Therefore, those who could stay under the vehicle 1 may be determined, and referred as designated animals in the context. Then a dispersion sound specific to designated animals in the group is obtained. Here, a dispersion sound specific to designated animals may refer to one or more sound. For each of the designated animals, a specific dispersion sound may be obtained.

[0084] Since the vehicle 1 may travel across different geographical locations, and the animals living in different geographical locations may vary, if the animals which may go under the vehicle 1 are identified, dispersion sounds specific to those animals may be downloaded for backup in advance. There is no need of downloading specific dispersion sounds for all kinds of animal. In this way, more types of animals can be driven away by the specific dispersion sound, but not occupying a large storage space.

[0085] Reference is now made to Fig. 8, which illustrates a schematic block diagram of a  system 10 for detecting an item under a vehicle 1 in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. The system 10 includes a track 11, an apparatus 810 for detecting an item under a vehicle 1 and a monitoring device 820. The apparatus 810 includes a controlling module 812, an obtaining module 814, and a recognizing module 816.

[0086] The controlling module 812 is configured to control, in response to obtaining a detection instruction to detect an item under a vehicle 1, a camera 128 attached to a track 11 to move from a first area of the track 11 to a second area of the track 11. The track 11 is installed under the vehicle 1, and the first area is above the second area. The obtaining module 814 is configured to obtain at least one image under the vehicle 1 captured by the camera 128. The recognizing module 816 is configured to recognize the item under the vehicle 1 based on the at least one image.

[0087] The monitoring device 820 includes a capturing unit 822, a communication unit 824, a driving unit 828 and a power unit 829. The capturing unit 822 includes a camera 128, which is configured to capture images. The communication unit 824 is configured to communicate with the controlling module 812 of the apparatus 810. For example, the controlling module 812 may send the detection instruction to the communication unit 824, and the communication unit 824 may send the image captured by the camera 128 to the controlling module 812 of the apparatus 810. The driving unit 828 includes a motor, which is configured to implement horizontal and rotational movements. The power unit 829 include a battery, which is configured to provide power to the electronic components of the monitoring device 820.

[0088] In some embodiments, the monitoring device 820 may further include an alarm unit 826. The alarm unit 826 is configured to play a dispersion sound when an animal under the vehicle 1 is detected.

[0089] Fig. 9 illustrates a flowchart of an example method for detecting an item under a vehicle 1, performed by the example system 10 of Fig. 8, in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0090] At block 902, a connection between the controller 13 and the monitoring device 12 is established. The connection may be established between the communication unit 824 of the monitoring device 12 and the controlling module 812 of the controller 13.

[0091] At block 904, the controller 13 sends a detection instruction to the monitoring device 12. The detection instruction may be generated by the driver manually, or may be generated  automatically upon a starting of the vehicle 1.

[0092] At block 906, the monitoring device 12 controls the camera 128 to move from the first area to the second area. The monitoring device 12 may control a movement of the camera 128 along the track 11 and / or an orientation of the camera 128.

[0093] At block 908, the camera 128 captures at least one image. In an example, the camera 128 may capture a plurality of images from different angles and / or at different positions of the track 11.

[0094] At block 910, the monitoring device 12 sends the image captured by the camera 128 to the controller 13. Alternatively, in some embodiments, the action at block 910 may be skipped if the MCU of the monitoring device 12 is strong enough to process the images.

[0095] At block 912, if the action at block 910 is performed, the recognizing module 816 of the controller 13 recognizes the image sent by the monitoring device 12. Alternatively, in some embodiments, the MCU of the monitoring device 12 may recognizes the image captured by the camera 128.

[0096] At block 914, the method 200 determines whether there is any abnormality under the vehicle 1 by the one that performs the action at block 912. For example, there may be an animal under the vehicle 1. If the method 200 determines that there is no abnormality ( “N” at block 914) , the process goes to block 918 to control the camera 128 to move back to the first area. If the method 200 determines that there is an abnormality ( “Y” at block 914) , the process goes to block 916 to execute reaction. The reaction may include a reminder message and / or a dispersion sound.

[0097] Reference is made to FIG. 10, which illustrates a block diagram illustrating a controller 1000 in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. As indicated, the controller 1000 includes a central processing unit (CPU) 1001, which can execute various appropriate actions and processing based on the computer program instructions stored in a read-only memory (ROM) 1002 or the computer program instructions loaded into a random-access memory (RAM) 1003 from a storage unit. The RAM 1003 also stores all kinds of programs and data required by operating the controller 1000. CPU 1001, ROM 1002 and RAM 1003 are connected to each other via a bus 1004, to which an input / output (I / O) interface 1005 is also connected.

[0098] Each procedure and processing described above, such as the method 200, or method 700, can be executed by a processing unit 1001. For example, in some embodiments, the  method 200, or method 700 can be implemented as computer software programs, which are tangibly included in a computer-readable medium, such as a storage unit. In some embodiments, the computer-readable medium is a non-transitory computer-readable medium. In some embodiments, the computer program can be partially or completely loaded and / or installed to the controller 1000 via the ROM 1002 and / or a communication unit. When the computer program is loaded to the RAM 1003 and executed by the CPU 1001, one or more steps of the above described method 200, or method 700 are implemented. Alternatively, in other embodiments, the CPU 1001 may also be configured in any proper manner to implement the above process / method.

[0099] In some embodiments, the methods and processes described above may be implemented as a computer program product. The computer program product may include a computer-readable storage medium on which computer-readable program instructions for performing various aspects of the present disclosure are loaded.

[0101] The computer-readable program instructions described herein may be downloaded from a computer-readable storage medium to various computing / processing devices, or downloaded to an external computer or external storage device via a network, such as the Internet, a local area network, a wide area network, and / or a wireless network. The network  may include copper transmission cables, fiber optic transmission, wireless transmission, routers, firewalls, switches, gateway computers, and / or edge servers. A network adapter card or network interface in each computing / processing device receives computer-readable program instructions from a network and forwards the computer-readable program instructions for storage in a computer-readable storage medium in each computing / processing device.

[0102] The flow charts and block diagrams in the drawings illustrate the architectures, functions, and operations of possible implementations of the devices, methods, and computer program products according to various embodiments of the present disclosure. In this regard, each block in the flow charts or block diagrams may represent a module, a program segment, or part of an instruction, and the module, program segment, or part of an instruction includes one or more executable instructions for implementing specified logical functions. In some alternative implementations, functions marked in the blocks may also occur in an order different from those marked in the accompanying drawings. For example, two consecutive blocks may in fact be executed substantially concurrently, and sometimes they may also be executed in a reverse order, depending on the functions involved. It should be further noted that each block in the block diagrams and / or flow charts, as well as a combination of blocks in the block diagrams and / or flow charts, may be implemented using a dedicated hardware-based system that executes specified functions or actions, or using a combination of special hardware and computer instructions.

[0103] Various embodiments of the present disclosure have been described above. The foregoing description is illustrative rather than exhaustive, and is not limited to the disclosed various embodiments. Numerous modifications and alterations are apparent to persons of ordinary skill in the art without departing from the scope and spirit of the illustrated embodiments. The selection of terms as used herein is intended to best explain the principles and practical applications of the various embodiments or the technical improvements to technologies on the market, or to enable other persons of ordinary skill in the art to understand the various embodiments disclosed herein.
