Abstract

Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution for providing assistance information to a reader for an ambient internet of things (AIoT) service. In a solution, a first communication device receives, from a second communication device, a first request for an AIoT service of a service type. The AIoT service is associated with at least one AIoT device. Then, the first communication device transmits a second request for the AIoT service to a third communication device. The second request at least comprises first assistance information, and the first assistance information indicates message size information for a response message to be transmitted from the at least one AIoT device. As such, the second communication device may be aware of the message size information for the response message and may allocate correspoding resources to the at least one AIoT device in a more efficient and accurate way.

[0042] Principles and implementations of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the figures.

[0043] FIG. 1 illustrates a schematic diagram of an example communication environment 100 in which example embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. As shown in the example architecture 100 of FIG. 1, there are a plurality of devices including a device or an entity implementing an AIoT function (also referred to as “AIoT function” or “AIoTF” for purpose of discussion) 110, a device or an entity implementing an Application Function (AF) 120 (also referred to as AF 120 for purpose of discussion) , an AIoT radio access network (RAN) reader (for example, a BS reader, and so on) 130, and an AIoT device 140.

[0044] The AIoT function 110 may be a core network entity that enables AIoT scenarios. It may be a network function implemented in the core network. In some embodiments, the  AIoT function 110 may be implemented at an existing core network entity or as a part of an existing network function. Alternatively, it may be implemented as a new network function. It is to be understood that the above are discussed for the purpose of illustration, rather than suggesting any limitations. More details of the AIoT function 110 will be discussed with respect to FIGS. 9-17.

[0045] The Application Function (AF) 120 may be a network service provider. For example, the AF 120 may be a functional device immediate response to changing conditions or requirements, such as adjusting irrigation schedules based on real time data.

[0046] The AIoT RAN reader 130 may be a device that reads and interprets data gathered from the AIoT device 140. The AIoT RAN reader 130 may extract meaningful information from the vast amount of data produced by the ambient environment, making it useful for various applications. In some embodiments, the AIoT RAN reader 130 may be implemented as or included in a gNB. Alternatively, the AIoT RAN reader 130 may be implemented as a UE reader that may communicate with the AIoT function 110 via a gNB.

[0047] The AIoT device 140 may refer to a new class of IoT devices primarily powered by harvesting ambient energy from radio waves, light, motion, heat, or any other viable ambient energy source. The Ambient IoT may be an extension of the existing IoT. Ambient IoT devices may carry out many of the same functions as IoT devices and target many of the same use cases but require additional design choices to meet solution demands. By relying on energy harvested from ambient sources, the Ambient IoT devices makes it possible to develop lower-cost, smaller, and maintenance-free devices, allowing the IoT to become more scalable in existing use cases and in use cases still to be developed. Harvesting energy from ambient sources generates only minimal amounts of power. This creates the inherent requirement for Ambient IoT devices to be less complex and more power efficient.

[0048] It is to be understood that the number of devices and their connections shown in FIG. 1 are only for the purpose of illustration without suggesting any limitation. The communication environment 100 may include any suitable number of devices configured to implementing example embodiments of the present disclosure. Although not shown, it would be appreciated that one or more additional devices may be located in the communication environment 100.

[0061] AIoT services may be of a variety of types. For example, an AIoT service may be associated with an inventory procedure, a command procedure including “read” , “write” , “disable” , and “enable” commands or operations, or the like. The AIoT services may be supported by the fifth generation core network (5GC) , which apply to both topology 1 and topology 2. Specifically, the inventory procedure may include a request to perform an inventory operation. The read command or operation (also referred to as read service) may involve a request to read information from an AIoT device. The write command or operation (also referred to as write service) may involve a request to write information to an AIoT device. The disable command or operation (also referred to as disable service) may involve a request that an AIoT device has its capability to transmit radio frequency (RF) permanently or temporarily disabled. The enable command or operation (also referred to as enable service) may involve a request to enable a temporarily disabled AIoT device.

[0062] Embodiments of the present disclosure propose a solution for providing assistance information. In the solution, the assistance information indicating message size information for a response message to be transmitted from at least one AIoT device is determined and provided from the core network (CN) to the reader. It is beneficial for the reader to know an estimate of expected device to reader (D2R) message size.

[0063] In addition, in some embodiments, the CN also provides information including, for example, one or more of the service type of AIoT, the command type (e.g., read, write, or disable) , and the approximate number of target devices (if available) . Such information may be also considered useful to be visible to the reader from the CN.

[0064] More details will be provided below. Reference is now made to FIG. 9, which illustrates a signaling flow 900 of assistance information in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. The FIG. 9 involves a first communication device 910, a second communication device 920, and a third communication device 930.

[0065] In some embodiments, the first communication device 910 may include a  network device implementing an AIoT function. The second communication device 920 may include a network device implementing an Application Function (AF) . The third communication device 930 may include a reader associated with the AIoT service or a random access network (RAN) network device connected to the reader.

[0066] For the purposes of discussion, the signaling flow 900 will be discussed with reference to FIG. 1. By referring to the embodiments of FIG. 1, the first communication device 910 may be implemented as the AIoT function 110. The second communication device 920 may be implemented as the AF 120. The third communication device 930 may be implemented as the AIoT RAN reader 130.

[0067] In the signaling flow 900, the second communication device 920 transmits (9010) a first request for an AIoT service of a service type to the first communication device 910. Correspondingly, the first communication device 910 receives (9020) the first request from the second communication device 920. The AIoT service is associated with at least one AIoT device, for example, the AIoT service may be an inventory procedure involving the at least one AIoT device, or a command procedure including read, write, enable or disable of the at least one AIoT device. The at least one AIoT device may be implemented as the AIoT device 140 in FIG. 1.

[0068] Furthermore, the first communication device 910 transmits (9030) , to the third communication device 930, a second request for the AIoT service. The second request at least includes assistance information indicating message size information for a response message. The response message is a response to a request of the AIoT service and is to be transmitted from the at least one AIoT device to the reader. For purpose of discussion, the assistance information included in the second request is also referred to as “first assistance information” in some embodiments.

[0069] In some embodiments, the message size information for the response message may indicate a message size of the response message or a message size level of the response message. For example, the message size information may indicate the number of bits or a level of number of bits for the response message.

[0070] Correspondingly, the third communication device 930 receives (9040) the second request from the first communication device 910. With the knowledge of the first assistance information included in the second request, the third communication device 930 may determine a resource for the response message from the at least one AIoT device  based on the message size information carried by the first assistance information.

[0071] In some embodiments, the first request may include assistance information as well. For purpose of discussion, the assistance information included in the first request is also referred to as “first assistance information” in some embodiments. The second assistance information may indicate size information estimated for at least a part of a response message to be transmitted from the at least one AIoT device.

[0072] Alternatively or in addition, the first request may not include any assistance information. That is, the first request may not indicate any size information of the response message. In these cases, the first request may include information for the first communication device 910 to derive the size information. It is to be understood that this is an example rather than suggesting any limitation. In some implementations, the first request may not include any information for deriving the size information.

[0073] Furthermore, the service type may indicate that the AIoT service is associated with an inventory procedure. In these cases, the first communication device 910 may determine whether the first request include the second assistance information indicates size information estimated for at least a part of the response message. Additionally, the first communication device 910 may determine the first assistance information based on the determination. Alternatively or in addition, the first request may further include, for example, but not limited to, a device identification (ID) of the at least one AIoT device, and / or the service type.

[0074] Specifically, if the first request does not include the second assistance information, the first communication device 910 may determine first size information for a first part of the response message and / or the second size information for a second part of the response message based on the service type. With the first size information and the second size information, the first communication device 910 may determine the first assistance information.

[0075] In some implementations, the first and second size information may indicate the size of the first part and second part of the response message. For example, the first and second size information may be the number of bits used for the first and second part of the response message. Alternatively, or in addition, the first and second size information may indicate a first and second level of the number of bits used for the response message.

[0076] As an alternative or in addition to determining the assistance information by the  first communication device 910, in some embodiments, the first communication device 910 may ask for the assistance information from the second communication device 920. Specifically, if the first request does not comprise the second assistance information, the first communication device 910 may transmit, to the second communication device 920, an assistance information request for the second assistance information. Correspondingly, the second communication device 920 may receive the assistance information request from the first communication device 910. Additionally, the second communication device 920 may transmit an assistance information response to the first communication device 910. The assistance information response may include, but not limited to, the second assistance information, a device ID of the at least one AIoT device, or the service type. In these cases, the first communication device 910 may receive the assistance information from the second communication device 920.

[0077] In some embodiments where the first request includes the second assistance information, the first communication device 910 may obtain, from the second assistance information, at least one of first size information for a first part of the response message or the second size information for a second part of the response message. Furthermore, the first communication device 910 may determine the first assistance information based on the first size information and the second size information.

[0078] Moreover, the first communication device 910 may determine third size information for at least one of an AIoT layer head or an AIoT Non-Access Stratum (NAS) layer head. Additionally, the first communication device 910 may determine the first assistance information based on the first size information, the second size information and the third information.

[0079] Furthermore, the first part of the response message may be associated with an operator or a third party related to the AIoT service. Additionally, the second part of the response message may be associated with a device ID of the at least one AIoT device.

[0080] In some implementations, the service type may indicate that the AIoT service is associated with a command procedure. Moreover, the first request may include a command type indicating that the command procedure is of a first command type. In these cases, the first communication device 910 may determine the first assistance information based on the service type and the first command type. In some embodiments, the command procedure may include a service type of, for example, but not limited to, write, enable, or disable. The first command type may indicate a specific command, which may be, for  example, a write command, an enable command, or a disable command.

[0081] Furthermore, the first communication device 910 may determine fourth size information for the response message associated with the service type and the first command type. The fourth size information may include a predetermined number of bits or a predetermined size level for indicating an operation result of the AIoT service of the first command type. The first communication device 910 may determine the first assistance information at least based on the fourth size information.

[0082] In some cases, the first communication device 910 may further consider the overhead related to different messages in the AIoT layer, the NAS layer, and so on. For example, the first communication device 910 may determine third size information for at least one of an AIoT layer head or an AIoT Non-Access Stratum (NAS) layer head, and then it may determine the first assistance information based on the third size information and the fourth size information.

[0083] In some embodiments, the service type may indicate that the AIoT service is associated with a command procedure. Moreover, the first request may include a command type indicating that the command procedure is of a second command type. The second command type may indicate a certain command, for example, the read command. Alternatively, or in addition, the first request may further include at least one of a device ID of the at least one AIoT device, the service type, or the command type.

[0084] In these cases, the first communication device 910 may determine whether the first request include second assistance information indicates size information estimated for at least a part of the response message. The first communication device 910 may determine the first assistance information based on the determination. For example, if the first request includes the second assistance information, the first communication device 910 may determine the first assistance information based on the second assistance information. In another example, if the first request excludes the second assistance information, or just includes partial information, the first communication device 910 may determine the first assistance information by itself or ask the second communication device 920 for the second assistance information again.

[0085] In some cases, if the first request does not comprise the second assistance information, the first communication device 910 may determine fifth size information for the response message associated with the service type and the second command type. Then,  the first communication device 910 may determine the first assistance information at least based on the fifth size information.

[0086] Alternatively, or in addition, if the first request does not include the second assistance information, the first communication device 910 may transmit, to the second communication device 920, an assistance information request for the second assistance information. Correspondingly, the second communication device 920 may receive, from the first communication device, an assistance information request for the second assistance information. Furthermore, the second communication device 920 may transmit, to the first communication device 910, an assistance information response including at least one of the second assistance information, a device ID of the at least one AIoT device, the service type, or the command type. In these cases, the first communication device 910 may receive the assistance information response from the second communication device 920.

[0087] On the other hand, if the first request includes the second assistance information, the first communication device 910 may obtain, from the second assistance information, fifth size information for the response message associated with the service type and the second command type. Moreover, the first communication device 910 may determine the first assistance information at least based on the fifth size information.

[0088] Furthermore, the first communication device 910 may determine third size information for at least one of an AIoT layer head or an AIoT Non-Access Stratum (NAS) layer head. In addition, the first communication device 910 may determine the first assistance information based on the third size information and the fifth size information.

[0089] In this way, assistance information about the size of the response message from the at least one AIoT device may be indicated to the reader of the at least one AIoT device. Thus, the reader may allocate correspoding resources to the at least one AIoT device in a more efficient and accurate way. As such, efficiency of the D2R transmission from the AIoT device may be improved.

[0090] FIG. 10 illustrates a signaling flow 1000 of assistance information in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For purpose of discussion, the embodiments of FIG. 10 will be discussed with respect to FIGS. 1 and 9. As shown in FIG. 10, the signaling flow 1000 involves a device 1020 implementing an AF (also referred to as AF 1020 for purpose of discussion) , a device implementing an AIoT function  (also referred to as “AIoTF” ) 1010, and a reader 1030.

[0091] The AIoTF 1010 may be considered as an implementation of the first communication device 910 of FIG. 9. The AF 1020 may be considered as an implementation of the second communication device 920 of FIG. 9. The reader 1030 may be considered as an implementation of the third communication device 930 of FIG. 9.

[0092] In the embodiment of FIG. 10, the service type requested by the AF 1020 may be inventory. In these cases, at 10010, the AF 1020 may transmit an AIoT service request to the AIoTF 1010. In an implementation, the AIoT service request may be in the form of “AIoT Service Request (expected Device ID, service type, service layer assistance information) ” .

[0093] Moreover, the AIoT service request may include, for example, but not limited to, expected device ID, service type (e.g., inventory) . In some implementations, the AIoT service request may also include assistance information provided by the AF 1020, which is also referred to as “service layer assistance information” or “second assistance information” in some example embodiments. The AF 1020 may provide the service layer assistance information to the AIoTF 1010.

[0094] Specifically, the assistance information may include the estimated message size (e.g., the number of bits) or message size level for the response D2R message of service layer. In some embodiments, for example, the message size level may be small, medium or large. The small size level may correspond to a range of the number of bits for the response D2R message which is from 1 to 50. The medium size level may correspond to a range from 50 to 500. The large size level may correspond to a range from 500 to a larger value, for example, 2000, which varies and depends on concrete implementations. It is to be understood that these levels are described only for the purpose of illustration, without suggesting any limitation to the scope of the disclosure. Furthermore, the message size level may be configured in the network and / or the AF 1020 according to the service level agreement between the operator and the AIoT service provider.

[0095] In some embodiments, if the service type is inventory, the medium size level may be selected as the message size level. If the service type is command, e.g., write, enable or disable, the small size level may be selected as the message size level. In addition, if the service type is command, e.g., read, the large size level may be selected as the message size level.

[0096] The AF 1020 may provide a first assistance information corresponding to the first part of the response D2R message (also referred to as “part1” hereafter) and a second assistance information corresponding to the second part of the response D2R message (also referred to as “part2” hereafter) . The first part of the response D2R message may be allocated by an operator or a third party related to the AIoT service. Moreover, the first part of the response D2R message may be used to identify a network or the third party. Additionally, the second part of the response D2R message may include an identifier, for example, electronic product code (EPC) .

[0097] Reference is made to FIGS. 11A and 11B, which illustrate different examples 1100A and 1100B of allocated identification, respectively. The FIG. 11A involves the first part (part1) 1102 and the second part (part2) 1104. The first part 1102 further includes a part allocated by an operator (also referred to as “operator allocated” ) 1106 and a network identifier 1108. The part1 1102 may be considered as an implementation of the first part of the response D2R message. The operator allocated 1106 and the network identifier 1108 may be included in the part1 1102. The part2 1104 may be considered as an implementation of the second part of the response D2R message. For operator allocated identifier 1100A, the network identifier 1108 may be used to index the authentication server or not.

[0098] In some embodiments, the part2 1104 may include the EPC which may use 96 bits. The EPC binary representation consists of the header value that identifies the EPC scheme and coding scheme specific bits, as shown in Table 1.

[0099] Table 1

[0100] The FIG. 11B involves a part1 1112 and a part2 1114, where the part2 1114 further includes a part allocated by a third party (also referred to as “3rd party allocated” ) 1116 and information used to identify a third party 1118. The part1 1112 may be considered as an implementation of the first part of the response D2R message. The 3rd party allocated 1116 and the information used to identify a third party 1118 may be included in the part1 1112. The part2 1114 may be considered as an implementation of the second part of the response D2R message. For third party allocated identifier 1100B, the network identifier may be not needed. The third party may be the credential holder or  not. If it is not the credential holder, the network may be provided with third party related context including the information used to locate the authentication server.

[0101] In some embodiments, the part2 1114 may include the EPC which may use 96 bits. The EPC binary representation consists of the header value that identifies the EPC scheme and coding scheme specific bits, as shown in Table 1.

[0102] Still referring to FIG. 10, upon receiving the AIoT service request from AF 1020, the AIoTF 1010 may determine whether the assistance information is included in the AIoT service request. If the assistance information is absent from the AIoT service request or if the information provided in the AIoT service request is insufficient, at 10020, the AIoTF 1010 may request the assistance information from the AF 1020. Specifically, in some embodiments, the AIoTF 1010 may transmit, at 10020, an AIoT service assistance information request including the expected device ID and the service type. In an implementation, the AIoT service assistance information request may be in the form of “AIoT Service assistance information Request (expected Device ID, service type) ” .

[0103] Subsequently, at 10030, as a response, the AF 1020 may transmit to the AIoTF 1010 the assistance information which may indicate the service layer message size. For example, the AF 1020 may transmit, to the AIoTF 1010, an AIoT service assistance information response including the expected device ID, the service type, and the service layer assistance information. In an implementation, the AIoT service assistance information response may be in the form of “AIoT Service assistance information Response (expected Device ID, service type, service layer assistance information) ” .

[0104] In these cases, the AF 1020 may provide either or both the first and second assistance information as described above. Alternatively, the AF 1020 may just provide one of the first and second assistance information while the other one may be derived by the AIoTF 1010. In some implementations, the AF 1020 may provide further information related to the assistance information to the AIoTF 1010 for deriving the assistance information.

[0105] Moreover, the AIoTF 1010 may map the service layer message size to the network layer message size. Then, the AIoTF 1010 may provide the assistance information to the reader 1030. Specifically, at 10040, the AIoTF 1010 may transmit, to the reader 1030, an AIoT service request. The AIoT service request transmitted from the AIoTF 1020 may include device IDs, the service type, and network layer assistance information. The  assistance information may include the estimated message size or message size level (e.g., medium) for the following response D2R message of the network layer. In an implementation, the AIoT service request transmitted at 100040 may be in the form of “AIoT service Request (Device ID, Service Type, network layer assistance information) ” .

[0106] Furthermore, if the AF 1020 provides both the first and second assistance information, the AIoTF 1010 may add the AIoT layer or AIoT NAS layer header to the message size as the network layer message size. Alternatively, or in addition, if the AF 1020 provide only the second assistance information corresponding to part2, the AIoTF 1010 may add the size of part1 according to the network configuration or the first assistance information corresponding to part1 transmitted from AF 1020. Moreover, the AIoTF 1010 may also add the AIoT layer or AIoT NAS layer header to the message size as the network layer message size.

[0107] Moreover, after receiving the AIoT service request, the reader 1030 may determine resources for the response message from the AIoT devices based on the network layer assistance information in the AIoT service request.

[0108] In this way, the assistance information may be provided from the AF 1020 to the reader 1030 via the AIoTF 1010 in a flexible and efficient way. Thus, the assistance information may be supported for the response message. The efficiency of the D2R transmission of the AIoT device may be improved.

[0109] FIG. 12 illustrates a signaling flow 1200 of assistance information in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For purpose of discussion, the embodiments of FIG. 12 will be discussed with respect to FIGS. 1 and 9. As shown in FIG. 12, the signaling flow 1200 involves a device implementing an AIoT function (also referred to as “AIoTF” ) 1210, a device 1220 implementing an AF (also referred to as AF 1220 for purpose of discussion) , and a reader 1230.

[0110] The AIoTF 1210 may be considered as an implementation of the first communication device 910 of FIG. 9. The AF 1220 may be considered as an implementation of the second communication device 920 of FIG. 9. The reader 1230 may be considered as an implementation of the third communication device 930 of FIG. 9.

[0111] In the signaling flow 1200, the service layer assistance information is provided by the AF 1220 to the AIoTF 1210. For example, the AF 1220 may provide the assistance information to the AIoTF 1210 in an AIoT service request at 12010. The assistance  information may include the estimated message size (bits) or message size level (e.g., small, medium, or large) for the following response D2R message of the service layer. The service type is “command” and the command type may be write, enable or disable in this case.

[0112] As shown in FIG. 12, at 12010, the AF 1220 may transmit an AIoT service request to the AIoTF 1210. For example, the AIoT service request may be in the form of AIoT Service Request (Device ID, service type, Command type, service layer assistance information) .

[0113] As for the AIoTF 1210, upon receiving the AIoT service request, it may map the service layer message size to the network layer message size. Then, the AIoTF 1210 may provide the assistance information (also referred to as the first assistance information or network layer assistance information) to the reader 1230. The first assistance information may include the estimated message size (bits) or message size level (e.g., small) for the following response D2R message of the network layer. The AIoTF 1210 may add the AIoT layer or AIoT NAS layer header to the message size as the network layer message size.

[0114] At 12020, the AIoTF 1210 may send, to the reader 1230, the message size with the total size of the AIoT layer or the AIoT NAS layer and / or an operation result. The operation result may be indicated by one or more bits. In an example, the operation result may be indicated by one bit. If the value of this bit is “0” , it may indicate a failure, and if the value of this bit is “1” , it may indicate a success. It is to be understood that the examples of the value of the bit are discussed for illustration, rather than suggesting any limitations. Other suitable values are also applicable.

[0115] It is also to be understood that the message size levels (e.g., small, medium, or large) may be configured in the network, the AF 1220, or other entity according to the service level agreement between the operator and the AIoT service provider. In this case, the small size level may be indicated in the assistance information.

[0116] In an implementation, the above information may be included in an AIoT service request. That is, at 12020, the AIoTF 1210 may transmit, to the reader 1230, the AIoT service request in the form of AIoT service request (Device ID, Service Type, Command, network layer assistance information) .

[0117] FIG. 13 illustrates a signaling flow 1300 of assistance information in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For purpose of discussion, the  embodiments of FIG. 13 will be discussed with respect to FIGS. 1 and 9. As shown in FIG. 13, the signaling flow 1300 involves a device implementing an AIoT function (also referred to as “AIoTF” ) 1310, a device 1320 implementing an AF (also referred to as AF 1320 for purpose of discussion) , and a reader 1330.

[0118] The AIoTF 1310 may be considered as an implementation of the first communication device 910 of FIG. 9. The AF 1320 may be considered as an implementation of the second communication device 920 of FIG. 9. The reader 1330 may be considered as an implementation of the third communication device 930 of FIG. 9.

[0119] At 13010, the service layer assistance information may be provided by the AF 1320 to the AIoTF 1310. The AF 1320 may provide the service layer assistance information (the second assistance information) to the AIoTF 1310 in the AIoT service request. The assistance information may include the estimated message size (e.g., how many bits) or the message size level (e.g., small, medium, large) for the following response D2R message of service layer, which may include the expected reading information in the AIoT device, e.g., temperature, humidity, etc. The service type may be “command” and the command type may be “read” in this case.

[0120] In an implementation, the AF 1320 may transmit, at 13010, an AIoT service request in the form of “AIoT Service Request (Device ID, service type, Command type, service layer assistance information) ” to the AIoTF 1310.

[0121] At 13020, after receiving, at 13010, the AIoT service request from the AF 1320, if the service layer assistance information is not included, the AIoTF 1310 may request the assistance information from the AF 1320. At 13030, the AF 1320 may transmit the assistance information to the AIoTF 1310 including the service layer message size.

[0122] In an implementation, the AIoTF 1310 may transmit, at 13020, a request in the form of “AIoT Service assistance information Request (Device ID, service type) ” to the AF 1320. As a response, the AF 1320 may transmit, at 13030 an AIoT service assistance information response to the AIoTF 1310 in the form of “AIoT Service assistance information Response (Device ID, service type, service layer assistance information) ” .

[0123] At 13030, the AIoTF 1310 may map the service layer message size to the network layer message size and thus obtain the network layer assistance information (also referred to as the first assistance information) . The AIoTF 1310 may provide the network layer assistance information to the reader 1330. The network layer assistance information  may include the estimated message size (bits) or message size level (e.g., medium or large) for the following response D2R message of network layer. The AIoTF 1310 may add the AIoT layer or AIoT NAS layer header to the message size as the network layer message size.

[0124] At 13040, the AIoTF 1310 may send the message size with the total of AIoT layer or AIoT NAS layer and the expected message size of reading the information in the device.

[0125] In an implementation, the AIoTF 1310 may transmit, at 13040, a request in the form of “AIoT service Request (Device ID, Service Type, Command, network layer assistance information) ” to the reader 1330.

[0126] It is also to be understood that the message size levels (e.g., small, medium, or large) may be configured in the network, the AF 1220, or other entity according to the service level agreement between the operator and the AIoT service provider. In this case, the medium size level or the large size level may be indicated in the assistance information.

[0127] FIG. 14 illustrates a signaling flow 1400 of assistance information in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For purpose of discussion, the embodiments of FIG. 14 will be discussed with respect to FIGS. 1 and 9. As shown in FIG. 14, the signaling flow 1400 involves a device implementing an AIoT function (also referred to as “AIoTF” ) 1410, a device 1420 implementing an AF (also referred to as AF 1420 for purpose of discussion) , a netwrok device 1430, e.g., a gNB 1430, and a reader 1440.

[0128] The AIoTF 1410 may be considered as an implementation of the first communication device 910 of FIG. 9. The AF 1420 may be considered as an implementation of the second communication device 920 of FIG. 9. The reader 1440 may be considered as an implementation of the third communication device 930 of FIG. 9.

[0129] The embodiments shown in FIG. 14 correspond to the topology 2 of AIoT. In this topology 2 case, the network device 1430 (e.g., gNB 1430) is used between the reader (in this case, a UE reader) 1440 and the AIoTF 1410.

[0130] Most steps in the embodiments of FIG. 14 are similar to those corresponding steps in FIGS. 10, 12 and 13.
